The nuclear reaction code TALYS adopts the Hauser-Feshbach statistical decay theory, to de-excite fission fragments. This involves for instance the evaporation of prompt fission neutrons and γ-rays. TALYS incorporates databases of primary fission fragment distribution which consists of primary fission fragment yield and data for excitation energy distribution of fission fragments. We conducted a sensitivity study on three parameters in TALYS and fitted them in order to reproduce experimental and evaluated data, in thermal neutron-induced fission of 235U. Moreover, we demonstrate a large-scale calculation of average prompt neutron and γ-ray multiplicities for 243 selected actinide isotopes.

Carbon microcrystallites can become oriented in the carbonization process of coal tar pitch, which occurs with the characteristic where a mesophase is obtained, by using a magnetic field. An oriented film that has the ability to transmit visible light from 450 to 800 nm can be obtained by sandwiching an appropriate amount of coal pitch between two glass plates and heating in an inert atmosphere at 793 K under a magnetic field. This film can be used to obtain the same linearly polarized light as a commercially available polarizing element. The degree of orientation of the film prepared in a magnetic field of 3 T is not sufficient to use as a polarizer, but a magnetic field of 6 T is able to sufficiently suppress the passage of crossed polarized light. The electrical conductivity of the carbon film prepared at 793 K is improved by 10 times by the application of a magnetic field of 10 T. The electrical conductivity is sensitive to the magnetic field, and there is a possibility that it can be further improved by applying 10 T or more. Coal tar pitch is the residue after obtaining coke from coal, and the optical and electrical advantage of a material prepared in the magnetic field derived from such natural products is clarified. In this paper, we employ the density-dependent relativistic mean-field theory to study how the triaxiality and pairing interaction affect the inner fission barriers of actinide nuclei. It was found that the triaxiality reduced the inner barriers and improved agreement with experimental values for many actinides. However, about 1–2 MeV discrepancy to the experimental values still remained for some of the considered nuclei. Such a discrepancy could be made further smaller by increasing the BCS pairing strength parameter. In this work, we demonstrated that adjusting the paring strength was effective in reproducing the experimental inner fission barriers as well as "pairing rotational energy" and binding energy in a consistent manner for nuclei where the effect of the triaxiality on the inner barriers was significant.
