Abstract

The countries of the Central Asian region of the CIS – the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan – have a powerful mineral resource base (MRB) covering almost the entire spectrum of mineral raw materials: ferrous, non-ferrous, noble, rare metals and combustible minerals. The foundation of this wealth was laid during the existence of the Soviet Union, when the joint efforts of the union republics carried out a systematic geological study of their territory and created the mining industry and metallurgy. The article discusses the state of MRB and mining production of mineral raw materials in the region, primarily regarding “basic” non-ferrous (copper, lead, zinc, nickel) and precious (gold and silver) metals.

2. Effect of HIF-1α inhibition with topotecan and postconditioning on cardiac and skeletal muscle biomarkers during severe hypoxia

Abstract

The work used a model of severe hypobaric hypoxia (SH) – a three-hour session of rats staying at 180 mmHg (5% O2) and an attempt was made to evaluate the possibility of its use for muscle tissue by determining biomarkers of cardiac muscle and skeletal muscles damage in the blood plasma. To assess the effect of HIF1, we used the HIF-1α translation inhibitor, topotecan, which was administered intraperitoneally (5 mg/kg body weight) in a DMSO–0.09% NaCl mixture 10 min before hypoxia. For postconditioning (PostC), moderate hypobaric hypoxia was used [1]. A significant increase in the level of cardiac biomarker troponin I in the blood plasma of rats subjected to TH was shown, which indicated myocardial damage after SH. The blood level of the nonspecific muscle biomarker myoglobin did not change significantly after SH. However, when the HIF-1α inhibitor topotecan was used before SH, the amount of myoglobin in the blood plasma of rats one day after the SH session was significantly lower than in the absence of the inhibitor. Thus, it can be assumed that inhibition of the transcription factor HIF-1α before SH reduces skeletal muscle damage. Topotecan can be proposed as a means to reduce damage to injured muscles.

3. Numerical simulation of deformations of a specimen of a composite helicopter blade as part of a resonant vibration set-up

Abstract

To determine the fatigue life of the tail rotor blade of a helicopter made of polymer composite materials (CM), a method of fatigue testing of the specimens of the blade with accompanied numerical modeling of the deformed state has been developed. The tests are carried out on a resonant vibration set-up, with simultaneous reproduction of a forcing harmonic transverse force and a constant longitudinal tensile force. The tests are carried out by a vibration loading mode equivalent in fatigue damage, which includes one level of variable load in the thrust plane and in the plane of rotation. The equivalent mode is formed based on the variable loading spectrum of the blade, which is obtained from the results of flight measurements of the loads on the tail rotor, as well as the repeatability of the expected operating conditions of the helicopter. The tests are accompanied by computational and experimental studies, which include finite element calculation of the stress state and modal analysis of the standard blade and the test specimen, as well as the strain measuring of the structure. According to the results of the research, the vibration loading modes are corrected.

Abstract

The unstable N=42 nucleus $^{72}$Zn has been studied using multiple safe Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics. The experiment was performed at the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN making first use of the silicon detector array C-REX in combination with the γ-ray spectrometer Miniball. The high angular coverage of C-REX allowed to determine the reduced transition strengths for the decay of the yrast 01+, 21+ and 41+ as well as of the 02+ and 22+ states in $^{72}$Zn. The quadrupole moments of the 21+, 41+ and 22+ states were extracted. Using model independent quadrupole invariants, the ground state of $^{72}$Zn was found to have an average deformation in the γ degree of freedom close to maximum triaxiality. In comparison to experimental data in zinc isotopes with N<40, the collectivity of the 41+ state in neutron-rich $^{72}$Zn is significantly larger, indicating a collective yrast band based on the ground state of $^{72}$Zn. In contrast, a low experimental B(E2;02+→21+) strength was determined, indicating a different structure for the 02+ state. Shell-model calculations propose a 02+ state featuring a larger fraction of the (spherical) N=40 closed-shell configuration in its wave function than for the 01+ ground state.The results were also compared with beyond mean field calculations which corroborate the large deformation in the γ degree of freedom, while pointing to a more deformed 02+ state. These experimental and theoretical findings establish the importance of the γ degree of freedom in the ground state of $^{72}$Zn, located between the $^{68,70}$Ni nuclei that have spherical ground states, and $^{76}$Ge, which has a rigid triaxial shape.

Abstract

Melittin, a peptide from bee venom, was found to be able to interact with many proteins, including calmodulin target proteins and ion-transporting P-type ATPases. It is assumed that melittin mimics a protein module involved in protein-protein interactions within cells. Previously, a Na+/K+-ATPase containing the α1 isoform of the catalytic subunit was found to co-precipitate with a protein with a molecular weight of about 70 kDa that interacts with antibodies against melittin by cross immunoprecipitation. In the presence of a specific Na+/K+-ATPase inhibitor (ouabain), the amount of protein with a molecular weight of 70 kDa interacting with Na+/K+-ATPase increases. In order to identify melittin-like protein from murine kidney homogenate, a fraction of melittin-like proteins with a molecular weight of approximately 70 kDa was obtained using affinity chromatography with immobilized antibodies specific to melittin. By mass spectrometry analysis, the obtained protein fraction was found to contain three molecular chaperones of Hsp70 superfamily: mitochondrial mtHsp70 (mortalin), Hsp73, Grp78 (BiP) of endoplasmic reticulum. These data suggest that chaperones from the HSP-70 superfamily contain a melittin-like module. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
