The ability to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy by piezoelectric materials makes them suitable alternatives to use in energy harvesters. So, the efficiency of a piezoelectric energy harvester is the main limitation. One of the desired approaches to increase efficiency is using a piezoelectric array in the harvester. In this paper, a numerical method has been used for the comparative study of series and parallel array behavior in different types of input force. The effect of input force type, frequency of input force, and type of array connection on energy harvester efficiency with the proposed design have been investigated. Numerical results have been verified with experiments. Results indicated that a series connection can produce 2.2 times the maximum voltage larger than a parallel connection. Also, they show that the input force shape function is the effective parameter for a piezoelectric energy harvester with an array structure. The results show a similar effect of the input force shape function on the behavior of piezoelectrics in both types of electric connections (parallel or series). In general, it can be seen that the waveform of the output voltage after applying the load with a square function was similar to its function. Also, the change in the parameters of the input force with the sinusoidal function causes a direct change in the same character of the generated voltage waveform.

We present a study of the hierarchical clustering of the young stellar clusters in six local (3–15 Mpc) star-forming galaxies using Hubble Space Telescope broadband WFC3/UVIS UV and optical images from the Treasury Program LEGUS (Legacy ExtraGalactic UV Survey). We identified 3685 likely clusters and associations, each visually classified by their morphology, and we use the angular two-point correlation function to study the clustering of these stellar systems. We find that the spatial distribution of the young clusters and associations are clustered with respect to each other, forming large, unbound hierarchical star-forming complexes that are in general very young. The strength of the clustering decreases with increasing age of the star clusters and stellar associations, becoming more homogeneously distributed after ∼40–60 Myr and on scales larger than a few hundred parsecs. In all galaxies, the associations exhibit a global behavior that is distinct and more strongly correlated from compact clusters. Thus, populations of clusters are more evolved than associations in terms of their spatial distribution, traveling significantly from their birth site within a few tens of Myr, whereas associations show evidence of disruption occurring very quickly after their formation. The clustering of the stellar systems resembles that of a turbulent interstellar medium that drives the star formation process, correlating the components in unbound star-forming complexes in a hierarchical manner, dispersing shortly after formation, suggestive of a single, continuous mode of star formation across all galaxies. This study is the first modeling exercise to assess the impacts of climate change on the current and future global distribution of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Bt is a common Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium widely distributed in various environments, including soil and water. It is widely recognized as a source of effective and safe agricultural biopesticides for pest management in various climatic regions globally. In the present work, ensemble species distribution models were developed for Bt based on the generalized linear model (GLM), generalized boosting model (GBM), random forest (RF), and maximum entropy (MaxEnt) under two distinct scenarios, SSP2-4.5 (optimistic) and SSP5-8.5 (pessimistic) for the year of 2050, 2070, and 2090. The performance of our models was evaluated based on true skill statistics (TSS) and the area under the receiver-operator curve (AUC) indices. Both AUC and TSS values were observed in an acceptable range, with AUC at 0.84 and TSS at 0.512, respectively. Results indicate that most of the areas currently suitable for Bt will likely remain stable in the future, particularly Central America, Central and South Africa, South Asia, and parts of Oceania. Norway, Peru, and the UK will have notable habitat gains by 2090 based on SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios. On the contrary, Serbia, Guinea, Poland, Croatia, Spain and Romania showed notable losses under both scenarios. Our results underscore Bt potential to improve pest control, crop yields, and environmental sustainability, especially in regions where agriculture is predominant. Background: Childbirth experience is a unique event that involves psychological and physiological aspects influenced by social, environmental, organizational, and political factors. In 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) introduced 56 recommendations for ensuring a positive childbirth experience at different stages of labor and delivery. Owing to the importance of implementing these guidelines, we have chosen to assess adherence to the WHO recommendations and their association with the fear and experience of childbirth., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on women hospitalized in the labor departments of the Al-Zahra and Taleghani Educational centers in Tabriz, Iran from 2023 to 2024. Sampling was performed via a convenience method, and data were collected via sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire, childbirth experience questionnaire.2 (CEQ.2), delivery fear scale (DFS), and the WHO recommendation checklist. The data were analyzed via Pearson correlation, independent t tests, one-way analysis of variance, and a general linear model (GLM)., Results: The average adherence score to the WHO recommendations among the women studied was 36.4 (SD 9.3), out of a range of 0-56. There was a significant negative correlation between adherence to the recommendations and delivery fear (r = - 0.249; p < 0.001) and a significant positive correlation with childbirth experience (r = 0.414; p < 0.001). The GLM results, after adjusting for sociodemographic variables, revealed a significant increase in positive childbirth experience with increasing adherence score (B = 0.01; 95% CI 0.005 to 0.02, p = 0.001) and a nonsignificant association between delivery fear and adherence score (B = - 0.1; 95% CI - 0.4 to 0.04, p = 0.114)., Conclusion: This study highlights the need to improve the implementation of WHO recommendations in educational and therapeutic centers and to consider various factors that affect the experience and fear of childbirth. Policymakers and medical center managers should place greater emphasis on training, monitor the complete implementation of the recommendations, and provide psychological and social support to pregnant women. At cryogenic temperatures, the photoluminescence spectrum of CdSe nanoplatelets (NPLs) usually consists of multiple emission lines, the origin of which is still under debate. While there seems to be consensus that both neutral excitons and trions contribute to the NPL emission, the prominent role of trions is rather puzzling. In this work, we demonstrate that Förster resonant energy transfer in stacks of NPLs combined with hole trap states in specific NPLs within the stack trigger trion formation, while single NPL spectra are dominated by neutral excitonic emission. This interpretation is verified by implementing copper (Cu + ) dopants into the lattice as intentional hole traps. Trion emission gets strongly enhanced, and due to the large amount of hole trapping Cu + states in each single NPL, trion formation does not necessarily require stacking of NPLs. Thus, the ratio between trion and neutral exciton emission can be controlled by either changing the amount of stacked NPLs during sample preparation or implementing copper dopants into the lattice which act as additional hole traps.

Semiconductor colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) have emerged as a promising class of gain materials to be used in colloidal lasers. Although low gain thresholds are achieved, the required high gain coefficient levels are barely met for the applications of electrically-driven lasers which entails a very thin gain matrix to avoid charge injection limitations. Here, "giant" CdSe@CdS colloidal quantum well heterostructures of 9.5 to 17.5 monolayers (ML) in total with corresponding vertical thickness from 3.0 to 5.8 nm that enable record optical gain is shown. These CQWs achieve ultra-high material gain coefficients up to ≈140 000 cm -1 , obtained by systematic variable stripe length (VSL) measurements and independently validated by transient absorption (TA) measurements, owing to their high number of states. This exceptional gain capacity is an order of magnitude higher than the best levels reported for the colloidal quantum dots. From the dispersion of these quantum wells, low threshold amplified spontaneous emission in water providing an excellent platform for optofluidic lasers is demonstrated. Also, employing these giant quantum wells, whispering gallery mode (WGM) lasing with an ultra-low threshold of 8 µJ cm -2 is demonstrated. Background and Objective: The HEART pathway serves as a tool for predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACE) among patients presenting with acute chest pain, aiding in early discharge of low-risk patients and reducing unnecessary cardiac investigations. This study aimed to evaluate physician-nurse reliability of the HEART pathway. Moreover investigates the efficacy of HEART pathway to predict 3-month MACE in patients with acute chest pain., Method: We conducted a prospective study on 97 patients experiencing acute chest pain. A team of three professionals - a nurse, a cardiology resident, and a cardiology attending physician - performed risk stratification. We assessed inter-rater reliability among the raters as well as explored 3-month MACE outcomes., Result: Excellent pairwise agreements were found between the raters. Overall agreement among raters was excellent, with an ICC of 0.84 (95% CI: 0.73 - 0.97). The HEART pathway score exhibited strong predictive power (AUC: 0.85) for 3-month MACE. At a cut-off score of 4, sensitivity, specificity, and negative predictive values were 87.5%, 58.9%, and 95.8%, respectively., Conclusion: The HEART pathway score effectively predicts 3-month MACE in patients with acute non-traumatic chest pain. Introduction: Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is a common procedure to improve blood flow to the heart muscles, but patients often face challenges during the recovery period. Self-efficacy and depression play crucial roles in patient outcomes. Telephone follow-up and social network follow-up have been introduced as interventions to enhance self-efficacy. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of telephone follow-up and social network follow-up on self-efficacy and depression in CABG patients., Method: The study is a single-blinded, randomized controlled trial conducted at Shahid Rajaee Heart Hospital in Tehran, Iran. The sample size was determined to be 99 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, Sullivan's cardiac self-efficacy questionnaire, and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Participants were assigned to three groups: control, telephone follow-up, and WhatsApp follow-up using randomization. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 25 (IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y., USA)., Results: The results revealed significant improvements in self-efficacy and reductions in depression scores for both the telephone and WhatsApp follow-up groups compared to the control group following the intervention ( p   <   0.001 ). Additionally, the mean self-efficacy score was higher and the mean depression score was lower in the WhatsApp follow-up group than in the telephone follow-up group after the intervention ( p   <   0.001 )., Discussion: The findings provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals in choosing appropriate interventions to enhance patients' self-efficacy levels and improve mental health outcomes. Here, strongly orientation-dependent lateral photoconductivity of a CdSe monolayer colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) possessing short-chain ligands is reported. A controlled liquid-air self-assembly technique is utilized to deliberately engineer the alignments of CQWs into either face-down (FO) or edge-up (EO) orientation on the substrate as opposed to randomly oriented (RO) CQWs prepared by spin-coating. Adapting planar configuration metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetectors, it is found that lateral conductivity spans ≈2 orders of magnitude depending on the orientation of CQWs in the film in the case of utilizing short ligands. The long native ligands of oleic acid (OA) are exchanged with short-chain ligands of 2-ethylhexane-1-thiol (EHT) to reduce the inter-platelet distance, which significantly improved the photoresponsivity from 4.16, 0.58, and 4.79 mA W -1 to 528.7, 6.17, and 94.2 mA W -1 , for the MSM devices prepared with RO, FO, and EO, before and after ligands exchange, respectively. Such CQW orientation control profoundly impacts the photodetector performance also in terms of the detection speed (0.061 s/0.074 s for the FO, 0.048 s/0.060 s for the EO compared to 0.10 s/0.16 s for the RO, for the rise and decay time constants, respectively) and the detectivity (1.7 × 10 10 , 2.3 × 10 11 , and 7.5 × 10 11 Jones for the FO, EO, and RO devices, respectively) which can be further tailored for the desired optoelectronic device applications. Attributed to charge transportation in colloidal films being proportional to the number of hopping steps, these findings indicate that the solution-processed orientation of CQWs provides the ability to tune the photoconductivity of CQWs with short ligands as another degree of freedom to exploit and engineer their absorptive devices., (© 2024 The Authors. Background: Methotrexate (MET) is one of the most important chemotherapy agents used against various tumors and cancer diseases. One of the critical side effects of MET is inducing male infertility., Objective: The current study aimed to investigate Sertoli cell culture-conditioned medium (SCM) recovery effects on MET-induced conditions in rats., Materials and Methods: 30 mature male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 10). In the first group, rats received normal saline intraperitoneally. In the second group, animals received MET (10 mg/kg; intraperitoneally) once a week for 2 wk. The rats in the third group (MET+SCM) received MET and a single injection of SCM for 56 days post-MET administration. 56 days later, serum, epididymis, and testicular tissue samples were collected, and the animals were euthanized. Sperm parameters, serum levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and testosterone were examined. The testicular tissues were stained using hematoxylin and eosin solution, and histopathological changes were analyzed., Results: The MET-induced condition resulted in significant pathological changes in the testis, decreased hormone levels, and downregulated sperm parameters. Background: Radial artery cardiac catheterization is a common diagnostic and interventional procedure for cardiovascular conditions. Pain and hemorrhage at the access site can cause patient discomfort and complications. This pilot study investigates the potential of local forearm heating to reduce pain and hemorrhage in patients undergoing radial artery cardiac catheterization., Methods: We enrolled 100 patients scheduled for radial artery cardiac catheterization and randomly assigned them to the heating or control group. The heating group received local forearm heating before sheath removal, while the control group did not. Pain intensity was assessed with a visual analog scale, and hemorrhage was measured by assessing ecchymosis or hematoma size at the catheterization site. Hemodynamic parameters were also monitored. Statistical analysis compared outcomes between the groups., Results: Patients who received local forearm heating had significantly lower pain intensity (4.15 ± 2.73) compared to the control group (5.84 ± 3.34) (P =.009). Hemodynamic parameters and the extent of hemorrhage at the catheterization site did not significantly differ between the heating and control groups (P >.05). No adverse effects related to forearm heating were reported., Conclusion: Local forearm heating is a promising intervention to reduce pain intensity without increasing hemorrhage or affecting hemodynamic parameters during radial artery cardiac catheterization. This simple, noninvasive approach has the potential to enhance patient comfort and safety post procedure.

Endometriosis is one of the most common gynecological disorders. This study aimed to determine the effect of curcumin on painful symptoms of endometriosis and the quality of life in affected women. This randomized controlled trial was conducted on 68 women with endometriosis referred to Shahid Beheshti Infertility Center in Isfahan, Iran, 2022. The participants were allocated to intervention (n = 34) and control (n = 34) groups by the blocked randomization method. Curcumin capsules with a dose of 500 mg were given to the intervention group twice a day for 8 weeks, and the placebo with the same dose was given to the control group. The questionnaires of Endometriosis Health Profile, painful symptoms of endometriosis, and visual analogue scale were used to collect data. Independent t, ANCOVA, and Mann-Whitney U-tests were used to compare the outcomes between the study groups. After the intervention, based on the ANCOVA with the adjusting of the baseline values and Mann-Whitney U-test, there was no statistically significant difference in the amounts of usual pain (p = 0.496) and pain at its worst (p = 0.320), quality of life (p = 0.556), and visual pain (p = 0.845). The results showed that using curcumin does not affect the painful symptoms and quality of life of women with endometriosis. Background: Ovarian torsion in infants can be asymptomatic or may present with abdominal mass and malnutrition. It is an uncommon and non-specific condition in children. We report a girl who underwent detorsion and ovariopexy for suspected ovarian torsion after a previous oophorectomy. The role of progesterone therapy is determined in reducing the size of adnexal mass., Case Presentation: The patient was diagnosed with right ovarian torsion and underwent an oophorectomy at one year of age. About 18 months later, she was diagnosed with left ovarian torsion and underwent detorsion with lateral pelvic fixation. Despite the pelvic fixation of the ovary, a continuous increase in the volume of the ovarian tissue was evident during successive ultrasounds. Progesterone therapy was started at five years of age in order to prevent retorsion and preserve the ovarian tissue. In successive follow-ups during the therapy, ovarian volume decreased, and its size (27*18 mm) was restored., Conclusion: The presented case reminds doctors of the possibility of ovarian torsion in young girls with pelvic pain. Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is the most common periodic pain, which affects more than 50% of women with regular menstruation. Fenugreek is one of the medicinal plants with analgesic properties. This study aimed to determine the effect of fenugreek application in the severity of dysmenorrhea and its side effects in women with dysmenorrhea. PICO: Population: women with dysmenorrhea; Intervention: fenugreek; Comparison: control groups; and Outcome: reduction in the severity of dysmenorrhea and its side effects., Methods: English database (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science) and Persian database [SID (Scientific Information Database) and Magiran] were used for research until February 11, 2023, using the keywords "Dysmenorrhea [Mesh]," "Foenum [Mesh]," "fenugreek [Mesh]," and "Trigonella [Mesh]." The reference list of the selected articles was also checked. The quality assessment was conducted through the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions version 5.2.0. The RevMan 5.3 software was used to analyze and report the data of the entered studies. Meta-analysis results were reported with the standardized mean difference (95% confidence interval). A subgroup analysis was performed based on the type of control groups. The quality of evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach., Results: After removing duplicates and ineligible cases, four articles were included in the systematic review out of the 1526 records obtained. The results showed that the pain intensity caused by primary dysmenorrhea decreased with fenugreek compared to placebo (pooled result SMD: -2.21; 95% CI: -3.26 to -1.17; Z: 4.17; p <0.001). There was no significant difference between fenugreek with mefenamic acid (SMD: 0.05; 95% CI: -0.57 to 0.67; Z: 0.17; p = 0.86) and fenugreek with Chandrasura churna (SMD: 0.06; 95% CI: -0.56 to 0.68; Z: 0.19; p = 0.85). Bias, in terms of incomplete outcome data and selective reporting, was low risk in all studies, and the available evidence was low quality according to the GRADE approach., Conclusion: The results showed that the effect of fenugreek on pain intensity in dysmenorrhea is highly uncertain. The true effect is likely to be substantially different from the estimate of effect. Objectives: Pregnancy is a vulnerable period for women's health, and health practices play an essential role in this period. This study aimed to determine the relationship between health practices with attitudes toward pregnancy and motherhood and pregnancy symptoms., Design: It was a cross-sectional study using cluster sampling conducted on 351 pregnant women in 2021-2022. Data were collected using questionnaires of socio-demographic characteristics, health practices in pregnancy (Health Practices Questionnaire-II), attitude towards motherhood and pregnancy (Prenatal Attitudes Towards motherhood and Pregnancy) and pregnancy symptoms (Pregnancy Symptoms Inventory). The general linear model (GLM), with the adjustment of socio-demographic characteristics, was used to determine the relationship of the health practices with attitudes towards motherhood and pregnancy and pregnancy symptoms., Setting: Health centres in Tabriz city, Iran., Participants: Women were eligible if living in the Tabriz city, Iran, were pregnant and had a personal health record at the health centre., Results: The mean (SD) of the total health practices score was 117.9 (20.5) out of 34-170. The mean (SD) of the attitudes towards motherhood and pregnancy was 33.4 (4.5) out of 11-44. The mean (SD) of the pregnancy symptoms was 28.0 (12.1) out of 0-123. According to the Pearson correlation test, there was a significant direct correlation between health practices with attitudes towards motherhood and pregnancy (r=0.39; p<0.001) and a significant inverse correlation with pregnancy symptoms (r=-0.29; p<0.001). Based on the GLM with an increase in the score of health practices, the mean score of the attitude towards motherhood and pregnancy increased (B=0.07; 95% CI: 0.05 to 0.1), and the mean score of pregnancy symptoms decreased (B=-0.1; 95% CI: -0.2 to -0.05)., Conclusion: Considering the relationship between health practices with the attitude towards motherhood and pregnancy symptoms, healthcare providers better use educational and counselling strategies to promote health practices in pregnant women., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2023. Brassica napus, a versatile crop with significant socioeconomic importance, serves as a valuable source of nutrition for humans and animals while also being utilized in biodiesel production. The expansion potential of B. napus is profoundly influenced by climatic variations, yet there remains a scarcity of studies investigating the correlation between climatic factors and its distribution. This research employs CLIMEX to identify the current and future ecological niches of B. napus under the RCP 8.5 emission scenario, utilizing the Access 1.0 and CNRM-CM5 models for the time frame of 2040-2059. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis of parameters was conducted to determine the primary climatic factors affecting B. napus distribution and model responsiveness. The simulated outcomes demonstrate a satisfactory alignment with the known current distribution of B. napus, with 98% of occurrence records classified as having medium to high climatic suitability. However, the species displays high sensitivity to thermal parameters, thereby suggesting that temperature increases could trigger shifts in suitable and unsuitable areas for B. napus, impacting regions such as Canada, China, Brazil, and the United States., (© 2023. Semiconductor colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) provide anisotropic emission behavior originating from their anisotropic optical transition dipole moments (TDMs). Here, solution-processed colloidal quantum well light-emitting diodes (CQW-LEDs) of a single all-face-down oriented self-assembled monolayer (SAM) film of CQWs that collectively enable a supreme level of IP TDMs at 92% in the ensemble emission are shown. This significantly enhances the outcoupling efficiency from 22% (of standard randomly-oriented emitters) to 34% (of face-down oriented emitters) in the LED. As a result, the external quantum efficiency reaches a record high level of 18.1% for the solution-processed type of CQW-LEDs, putting their efficiency performance on par with the hybrid organic-inorganic evaporation-based CQW-LEDs and all other best solution-processed LEDs. This SAM-CQW-LED architecture allows for a high maximum brightness of 19,800 cd m -2 with a long operational lifetime of 247 h at 100 cd m -2 as well as a stable saturated deep-red emission (651 nm) with a low turn-on voltage of 1.7 eV at a current density of 1 mA cm -2 and a high J 90 of 99.58 mA cm -2 . We propose and demonstrate vertically oriented self-assembly of colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) that allows for stacking CdSe/CdZnS core/shell CQWs in films for the purposes of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and random lasing. Here, a monolayer of such CQW stacks is obtained via liquid-air interface self-assembly (LAISA) in a binary subphase by controlling the hydrophilicity/lipophilicity balance (HLB), a critical factor for maintaining the orientation of CQWs during their self-assembly. Ethylene glycol, as a hydrophilic subphase, orients the coalition of these CQWs into self-assembled multi-layers in the vertical direction. Stacking CQWs into large micron-sized areas as a monolayer is facilitated by adjusting HLB with diethylene glycol addition as a more lyophilic subphase during LAISA. ASE was observed from the resulting multi-layered CQW stacks prepared via sequential deposition onto the substrate by applying the Langmuir-Schaefer transfer method. Random lasing was achieved from a single self-assembled monolayer of the vertically oriented CQWs. Here, highly rough surfaces resulting from the non-close packing nature of the CQW stack films cause strongly thickness-dependent behavior. We observed that in general a higher roughness-to-thickness ratio of the CQW stack films ( e.g. , thinner films that are intrinsically rough enough) leads to random lasing, while it is possible to observe ASE only in thick enough films even if their roughness is relatively higher. These findings indicate that the proposed bottom-up technique can be used to construct thickness-tunable, three-dimensional CQW superstructures for fast, low-cost, and large-area fabrication.

Solution-processed two-dimensional nanoplatelets (NPLs) allowing lateral growth of a shell (crown) by not affecting the pure confinement in the vertical direction provide unprecedented opportunities for designing heterostructures for light-emitting and -harvesting applications. Here, we present a pathway for designing and synthesizing colloidal type-II core/(multi-)crown hetero-NPLs and investigate their optical properties. Stoke's shifted broad photoluminescence (PL) emission and long PL lifetime (∼few 100 ns) together with our wavefunction calculations confirm the type-II electronic structure in the synthesized CdS/CdSe 1- x Te x core/crown hetero-NPLs. In addition, we experimentally obtained the band-offsets between CdS, CdTe, and CdSe in these NPLs. These results helped us designing hetero-NPLs with near-unity PL quantum yield in the CdSe/CdSe 1- x Te x /CdSe/CdS core/multicrown architecture. These core/multicrown hetero-NPLs have two type-II interfaces unlike traditional type-II NPLs having only one and possess a CdS ending layer for passivation and efficient suppression of stacking required for optoelectronic applications. The light-emitting diode (LED) obtained using multicrown hetero-NPLs exhibits a maximum luminance of 36,612 cd/m 2 and external quantum efficiency of 9.3%, which outcompetes the previous best results from type-II NPL-based LEDs. These findings may enable designs of future advanced heterostructures of NPLs which are anticipated to show desirable results, especially for LED and lasing platforms.

Colloidal quantum wells (CQWs), also known as nanoplatelets (NPLs), are exciting material systems for numerous photonic applications, including lasers and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Although many successful type-I NPL-LEDs with high device performance have been demonstrated, type-II NPLs are not fully exploited for LED applications, even with alloyed type-II NPLs with enhanced optical properties. Here, we present the development of CdSe/CdTe/CdSe core/crown/crown (multi-crowned) type-II NPLs and systematic investigation of their optical properties, including their comparison with the traditional core/crown counterparts. Unlike traditional type-II NPLs such as CdSe/CdTe, CdTe/CdSe, and CdSe/CdSe x Te 1- x core/crown heterostructures, here the proposed advanced heterostructure reaps the benefits of having two type-II transition channels, resulting in a high quantum yield (QY) of 83% and a long fluorescence lifetime of 73.3 ns. These type-II transitions were confirmed experimentally by optical measurements and theoretically using electron and hole wave function modeling. Computational study shows that the multi-crowned NPLs provide a better-distributed hole wave function along the CdTe crown, while the electron wave function is delocalized in the CdSe core and CdSe crown layers. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, NPL-LEDs based on these multi-crowned NPLs were designed and fabricated with a record high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.83% among type-II NPL-LEDs. These findings are expected to induce advanced designs of NPL heterostructures to reach a fascinating level of performance, especially in LEDs and lasers.

Characterized by their strong 1D confinement and long-lifetime red-shifted emission spectra, colloidal nanoplatelets (NPLs) with type-II electronic structure provide an exciting ground to design complex heterostructures with remarkable properties. This work demonstrates the synthesis and optical characterization of CdSe/CdSeTe/CdTe core/crown/crown NPLs having a step-wise gradient electronic structure and disproportional wavefunction distribution, in which the excitonic properties of the electron and hole can be finely tuned through adjusting the geometry of the intermediate crown. The first crown with staggered configuration gives rise to a series of direct and indirect transition channels that activation/deactivation of each channel is possible through wavefunction engineering. Moreover, these NPLs allow for switching between active channels with temperature, where lattice contraction directly affects the electron-hole (e-h) overlap. Dominated by the indirect transition channels over direct transitions, the lifetime of the NPLs starts to increase at 9 K, indicative of low dark-bright exciton splitting energy. The charge transfer states from the two type-II interfaces promote a large number of indirect transitions, which effectively increase the absorption of low-energy photons critical for nonlinear properties. Background: Urinary incontinence has a significant impact on the psychosocial well-being of postmenopausal women. This study aimed to determine the relationship between urinary incontinence with sexual function and quality of life., Method: It was a cross-sectional study using cluster sampling on 433 postmenopausal women in Tabriz-Iran, 2021-2022. Data were collected using questionnaires of socio-demographic and obstetrics characteristics, female sexual function index (FSFI), Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL), and Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis (UIDQ). Independent sample t-test and general linear model (GLM) were used to compare the quality of life and sexual function score between the two groups of women with and without stress, urgency, and mixed urinary incontinence., Results: Independent sample t-test showed a significant difference in the quality of life and sexual function between women with and without stress, urgency, and mixed urinary incontinence ( p < 0.05). Based on the GLM with adjusting the socio-demographic and obstetrics characteristics, women without stress incontinence reported a lower mean score of MENQOL (B = - 23.38; 95% CI = -30.1 to -16.6; p < 0.001) and a higher mean score of sexual function (B = 4.5; 95% CI = 2.1-7.0; p < 0.001) compared to women with stress incontinence; a lower MENQOL score and a higher sexual function score indicate better condition. However, there was no significant relationship between urgency and mixed incontinence with quality of life and sexual function ( p > 0.05)., Conclusion: As urinary incontinence remarkably affects sexual function and quality of life of postmenopausal women, health care providers should consider better solutions for this issue in their work program.

Species distribution models (SDMs) are practical tools to assess the habitat suitability of species with numerous applications in environmental management and conservation planning. The manipulation of the input data to deal with their spatial bias is one of the advantageous methods to enhance the performance of SDMs. However, the development of a model parameterization approach covering different SDMs to achieve well-performing models has rarely been implemented. We integrated input data manipulation and model tuning for four commonly-used SDMs: generalized linear model (GLM), gradient boosted model (GBM), random forest (RF), and maximum entropy (MaxEnt), and compared their predictive performance to model geographically imbalanced-biased data of a rare species complex of mountain vipers. Models were tuned up based on a range of model-specific parameters considering two background selection methods: random and background weighting schemes. The performance of the fine-tuned models was assessed based on recently identified localities of the species. The results indicated that although the fine-tuned version of all models shows great performance in predicting training data (AUC > 0.9 and TSS > 0.5), they produce different results in classifying out-of-bag data. The GBM and RF with higher sensitivity of training data showed more different performances. The GLM, despite having high predictive performance for test data, showed lower specificity. It was only the MaxEnt model that showed high predictive performance and comparable results for identifying test data in both random and background weighting procedures. Our results highlight that while GBM and RF are prone to overfitting training data and GLM over-predict nonsampled areas MaxEnt is capable of producing results that are both predictable (extrapolative) and complex (interpolative). We discuss the assumptions of each model and conclude that MaxEnt could be considered as a practical method to cope with imbalanced-biased data in species distribution modeling approaches., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2023 The Authors. Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is one of the most common symptoms during menopause, leading to a decreased quality of life and limited social activities. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of urinary incontinence and associated risk factors in postmenopausal women., Methods: It was a cross-sectional study using cluster sampling on 433 postmenopausal women in Tabriz-Iran, 2021-2022. Data were collected using questionnaires of socio-demographic characteristics, Questionnaire for Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis (QUID), and International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UISF). Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine factors related to urinary incontinence., Results: The overall prevalence of urinary incontinence was 39.5%; 20.6% stress urinary incontinence (SUI), 10.4% urgency urinary incontinence (UUI), and 8.5% mixed urinary incontinence (MUI). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the prevalence of SUI (aOR 0.38; 95% CI 0.18-0.77) and UUI (aOR 0.38; 95% CI 0.15-0.94) was significantly lower in women with three childbirths than the ones with fewer childbirths. Also, the odds of UUI increased significantly in women at the 50-55 age range (aOR 3.88; 95% CI 1.16-12.93) than those less than 50 years., Conclusion: Due to the high prevalence of urinary incontinence in postmenopausal women, caregivers should screen for early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of urinary incontinence to prevent its destructive impact on the quality of life., (© 2023. Introduction: Mindfulness is an effective method for empowering women to cope with menopausal changes. This study aimed to determine the effect of mindfulness training on stress and sleep quality in postmenopausal women., Materials and Methods: English (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and CINHAL) and Persian (SID, Magiran) databases were searched until 25 June 2022, using the free and MeSH keywords included Mindfulness and Menopause. The quality of the published papers was evaluated using Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions version 5.2.0. The meta-analysis was conducted in RevMan 5.3 and the results were reported with mean difference (95% confidence interval). The quality of evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach., Results: A total of 1206 records were obtained. After removing duplicate and non-eligible records, finally five articles were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The results indicated that sleep quality score (SMD = -1.44; 95% CI = -2.44 to -0.46; p = 0.004) and perceived stress score (MD = -4.21; 95% CI = -6.41 to -2.00; p = 0.0002) were significantly reduced in the mindfulness training group compared to control group., Conclusion: Mindfulness training is associated with improving sleep quality and perceived stress (with a low quality of evidence) in postmenopausal women. Mental health and quality of life in postmenopausal women impressively affect the community health. Given the low quality of evidence of the studies in this field, randomized controlled trials with better methodologies are suggested.

Hospitals that treat more patients with osteoporotic hip fractures do not generally have better care outcomes than those that treat fewer hip fracture patients. Institutions that do look after more such patients tend, however, to more consistently perform relevant health assessments., Introduction: An inveterate link has been found between institution case volume and a wide range of clinical outcomes; for a host of medical and surgical conditions. Hip fracture patients, notwithstanding the significance of this injury, have largely been overlooked with regard to this important evaluation., Methods: We used the UK National Hip Fracture database to determine the effect of institution hip fracture case volume on hip fracture healthcare outcomes in 2019. Using logistic regression for each healthcare outcome, we compared the best performing 50 units with the poorest performing 50 institutions to determine if the unit volume was associated with performance in each particular outcome., Results: There were 175 institutions with included 67,673 patients involved. The number of hip fractures between units ranged from 86 to 952. Larger units tendered to perform health assessments more consistently and mobilise patients more expeditiously post-operatively. However, patients treated at large institutions did not have any shorter lengths of stay. With regard to most other outcomes there was no association between the unit number of cases and performance; notably mortality, compliance with best practice tariff, time to surgery, the proportion of eligible patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty, length of stay delirium risk and pressure sore risk., Conclusions: There is no relationship between unit volume and the majority of health care outcomes. It would seem that larger institutions tend to perform better at parameters that are dependent upon personnel numbers. Although achieving optical gain using aqueous solutions of colloidal nanocrystals as a gain medium is exceptionally beneficial for bio-optoelectronic applications, the realization of optical gain in an aqueous medium using solution-processed nanocrystals has been extremely challenging because of the need for surface modification to make nanocrystals water dispersible while still maintaining their gain. Here, we present the achievement of optical gain in an aqueous medium using an advanced architecture of CdSe/CdS@Cd x Zn 1- x S core/crown@gradient-alloyed shell colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) with an ultralow threshold of ∼3.4 μJ cm -2 and an ultralong gain lifetime of ∼2.6 ns. This demonstration of optical gain in an aqueous medium is a result of the carefully heterostructured CQWs having large absorption cross-section and gain cross-section in addition to inherently slow Auger recombination in these CQWs. Furthermore, we show low-threshold in-water amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from these aqueous CQWs with a threshold of 120 μJ cm -2 . In addition, we demonstrate a whispering gallery mode laser with a low threshold of ∼30 μJ cm -2 obtained by incorporating films of CQWs by exploiting layer-by-layer approach on a fiber. The observation of low-threshold optical gain with ultralong gain lifetime presents a significant step toward the realization of advanced optofluidic colloidal lasers and their continuous-wave pumping.

Lasers based on semiconductor colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) have attracted wide attention, thanks to their facile solution-processability, low threshold and wide range spectral tunability. Colloidal microlasers based on whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) resonators have already been widely demonstrated. However, due to their microscale size typically supporting multiple modes, they suffer from multimode competition and higher threshold. The ability to control the multiplicity of modes oscillating within colloidal laser resonators and achieving single-mode lasers is of fundamental importance in many photonic applications. Here we show that as a unique, simple and versatile architecture of all-colloidal lasers intrinsically enabled by balanced gain/loss segments, the lasing threshold reduction and spectral purification can be readily achieved in a system of a WGM-supported microfiber cavity by harnessing the notions of parity-time symmetry (PT). In particular, we demonstrate a proof-of-concept PT-symmetric microfiber laser employing CQWs as the colloidal gain medium along with a carefully tuned nanocomposite of Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) incorporated into a PMMA matrix altogether and conveniently coated around a coreless microfiber as a rigorously tailored colloidal loss medium to balance the gain. The realization of gain/loss segments in our PT-symmetric all-colloidal arrangement is independent of selected pumping, reducing the complexity of the system and making compact device applications feasible, where control over the pumping is not possible. We observed a reduction in the number of modes, resulting in a reduced threshold and enhanced output power of the PT-symmetric laser. The PT-symmetric CQW-WGM microcavity architecture offers new opportunities towards simple implementation of high-performance optical resonators for colloidal lasers.

Background: Heart Failure (HF) is a chronic disease that appears to affect resilience. One of the important programs that may affect resilience is a spiritual care program. As a result, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of a spiritual care program on the resilience of patients with HF., Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial study was performed at Rajaie Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in Tehran, Iran in 2020. Eighty-four patients were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly divided into two groups using a block size of 6. Connor-Davidson Scale and Parsian and Dunning Spirituality Questionnaire were completed by both groups before and after the intervention. For the experimental group, two educational sessions were carried out in one hour and thirty minutes and then continued three times a week for 1 month in order to practice spiritual care via WhatsApp. The control group did not receive the intervention that is done for the experimental group during performing intervention. In the end, the data related to 74 patients in each group ( n = 37) were analyzed using Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA)., Results: Dimensions of individual competence ( F = 12.85, p = 0.001) and negative emotion tolerance of resilience ( F = 8.71, p = 0.005) increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group and caused a significant increase in the total resilience score of the patients ( F = 7.78, p = 0.007)., Conclusions: Results of the study showed that a spiritual care program has a great role in improving the total resilience score and can be considered as a part of the holistic treatment program., Competing Interests: Nothing to declare., (Copyright: © 2022 Iranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research.)

Background: Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common disorders among young women. Medicinal herbs are one of the alternative methods for the treatment of dysmenorrhea. This study will investigate the effect of Rosa foetida extract, along with self-care behavior education on primary dysmenorrhea among female students of Babol University of medical sciences., Methods/design: A randomized clinical trial will be performed on single students, aged 18 to 24 years. The research samples will be divided into three groups. The students will receive self-care behavior education on dysmenorrhea. Following the education, two of the groups will receive Rosa foetida extract capsules and placebo capsules in two consecutive cycles every 8 h for two successive days, respectively. The capsules will have similar physical appearance. The third group will not receive any medication. Data will be collected through demographic characteristic questionnaire, visual analog scale, dysmenorrhea self-care behaviors scale questionnaire, pictorial chart, and menstrual distress scale questionnaire. Background: Heart failure is the leading cause of readmission in all medical and surgical patients. Home care studies have reduced hospitalization in heart failure. This study aimed to investigate the effect of home care program on readmission in advanced heart failure., Materials and Methods: The study was a randomized clinical trial conducted at the Rajaie Cardiovascular, Medical and Research Center from September 2017 to March 2018. Ninety-eight patients with advanced heart failure were selected using census method and were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. For the experimental group, the home care program was implemented for 6 months. The date and frequency of hospitalization were recorded during 30, 90, and 180 days before and after the home care program. The quantitative data analysis was performed using Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon's signed-rank tests and qualitative data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test., Results: The number of hospitalization and length of hospital stay 30, 90, and 180 days after implementation of the home care program in the experimental group was significantly less than the control group ( p < 0.001). The number of hospitalizations and length of stay in the experimental group decreased significantly after the program ( p < 0.001). Colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) have emerged as a promising family of two-dimensional (2D) optoelectronic materials with outstanding properties, including ultranarrow luminescence emission, nearly unity quantum yield, and large extinction coefficient. However, the performance of CQWs-based light-emitting diodes (CQW-LEDs) is far from satisfactory, particularly for deep red emissions (≥660 nm). Herein, high efficiency, ultra-low-efficiency roll-off, high luminance, and extremely saturated deep red CQW-LEDs are reported. A key feature for the high performance is the understanding of charge dynamics achieved by introducing an efficient electron transport layer, ZnMgO, which enables balanced charge injection, reduced nonradiative channels, and smooth films. The CQW-LEDs based on (CdSe/CdS)@(CdS/CdZnS) ((core/crown)@(colloidal atomic layer deposition shell/hot injection shell)) show an external quantum efficiency of 9.89%, which is a record value for 2D nanocrystal LEDs with deep red emissions. The device also exhibits an ultra-low-efficiency roll-off and a high luminance of 3853 cd m -2 . Additionally, an exceptional color purity with the CIE coordinates of (0.719, 0.278) is obtained, indicating that the color gamut covers 102% of the International Telecommunication Union Recommendation BT 2020 (Rec. 2020) standard in the CIE 1931 color space, which is the best for CQW-LEDs. Furthermore, an active-matrix CQW-LED pixel circuit is demonstrated. The findings imply that the understanding of charge dynamics not only enables high-performance CQW-LEDs and can be further applied to other kinds of nanocrystal LEDs but also is beneficial to the development of CQW-LEDs-based display technology and related integrated optoelectronics.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of auriculotherapy on reducing labor anxiety., Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 166 nulliparous pregnant women admitted to the Labor Ward of Izadi Hospital in Qom, Iran were included and assigned to two groups by randomized block design. In the intervention group (83 cases), auriculotherapy in "Shenmen, Thalamic, Zero, Brain, and Brain stem" was performed in dilatations of 4, 6 and 8 cm, between the contractions for 30 s in both ears at interval 1 h. While the control group received routine care. The Spielberger Inventory were completed pre- and post-interventions., Results: The auriculotherapy was effective to reduce anxiety state in the intervention group compared to the control group (P=0.001). The score of state anxiety in the intervention group reduced for 7.0, 8.0 and 11.0 U in 4, 6, and 8 cm dilatations after the intervention. The score of trait anxiety in the intervention group reduced for 3.8, 4.0 and 8.3 U in 4, 6, and 8 cm dilatations after the intervention. There was no significant difference of delivery mode and newborns' weight and Apgar score between groups (P>0.05). No adverse postpartum outcome such as hemorrhage has been observed in both groups., Conclusion: Since most women are anxious during labor, it seems that auriculotherapy can be an easy and safe method to reduce labor anxiety. The relationship between ABO blood group and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 - coronavirus disease 19 [COVID-19]) infection has been investigated, and several studies have reported discordant findings. This systematic review and meta-analysis study were conducted to investigate the relationship between ABO blood group and COVID-19 infection. The international databases Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)/Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus were systematically searched from 1 January 2020 through 14 June 2021. Twenty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria for meta-analysis including 23,285 COVID-19 case subjects and 590,593 control subjects. The odds of having each blood group among COVID-19 patients compared with control subjects were calculated. The random effects model was used to obtain the overall pooled odds ratio (OR). Publication bias and subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to explore the source of heterogeneity. According to the random effects model, the results indicated that the pooled estimates of OR (95% confidence interval) for blood groups A, O, B, and AB were 1.26 (1.13-1.40), 0.77 (0.71-0.82), 1.05 (0.99-1.12), and 1.11 (0.99-1.25), respectively. Therefore, individuals infected with COVID-19 have higher odds of having blood group A and lower odds of having blood group O. In conclusion, this study indicated that individuals with blood group A are more susceptible to COVID-19 infection, whereas those with blood group O are less susceptible to COVID-19 infection. The photo-bolometric effect is critically important in optoelectronic structures and devices employing metallic electrodes with nanoscale features due to heating caused by the plasmonic field enhancement. One peculiar case is individual silver nanowires (Ag NWs) and their networks. Ag NW-networks exhibit excellent thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties, providing a simple yet reliable alternative to common flexible transparent electrode materials used in optoelectronic devices. To date, there have been no reports on the photoresponse of Ag NWs. In this study, we show that single Ag NWs and networks of such Ag NWs possess a significant, intrinsic photoresponse, thanks to the photo-bolometric effect, as directly observed and measured using scanning photocurrent microscopy. Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) created at the contact metals or plasmons created at the nanowire-metal structures cause heating at the junctions where a plasmonic field enhancement is possible. The local heating of the Ag NWs results in negative photoconductance due to the bolometric effect. Here an open-circuit response due to the plasmon-enhanced Seebeck effect was recorded at the NW-metal contact junctions. The SPP-assisted bolometric effect is found to be further enhanced by decorating the Ag NWs with Ag nanoparticles. These observations are relevant to the use of metallic nanowires in plasmonic applications in particular and in optoelectronics in general. Our findings may pave the path for plasmonics-enabled sensing without spectroscopic detection.

Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of heparin (1000 IU/mL) in the blood sample on the results of venous blood gases of patients admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit., Materials and Methods: The present double-blind randomized clinical trial study was performed on 282 samples from 141 patients admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit. Insulin syringes with heparin (1000 IU/mL) and heparin (5000 IU/mL) and 1 cc of blood sample were taken from the peripheral vein, then distributed in two syringes and given to the analyzer., Results: In the present study, the mean age of the samples was 49.96 ± 9.58. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of values of partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2) (P < 0.001), partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) (P < 0.001), blood oxygen saturation (P < 0.001), bicarbonate ion (P < 0.001), excess base (P < 0.001), hemoglobin (P < 0.001), calcium (P < 0.001), potassium (P < 0.001), and sodium (P < 0.001) in the two groups., Conclusion: Overall, heparin (1000 IU/mL) led to a less disruption in the results of venous blood gases, and since it has not significantly increased the risk of clots, it is recommended to be used for venous blood gas sampling., (© the Author(s).)

Extending the emission peak wavelength of quasi-2D colloidal quantum wells has been an important quest to fully exploit the potential of these materials, which has not been possible due to the complications arising from the partial dissolution and recrystallization during growth to date. Here, the synthetic pathway of (CdSe/CdS)@(1-4 CdS/CdZnS) (core/crown)@(colloidal atomic layer deposition shell/hot injection shell) hetero-nanoplatelets (NPLs) using multiple techniques, which together enable highly efficient emission beyond 700 nm in the deep-red region, is proposed and demonstrated. Given the challenges of using conventional hot injection procedure, a method that allows to obtain sufficiently thick and passivated NPLs as the seeds is developed. Consequently, through the final hot injection shell coating, thick NPLs with superior optical properties including a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 88% are achieved. These NPLs emitting at 701 nm exhibit a full-width-at-half-maximum of 26 nm, enabled by the successfully maintained quasi-2D shape and minimum defects of the resulting heterostructure. The deep-red light-emitting diode (LED) device fabricated with these NPLs has shown to yield a high external quantum efficiency of 6.8% at 701 nm, which is on par with other types of LEDs in this spectral range., (© 2021 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Silicon is the most prevalent material system for light-harvesting applications; however, its inherent indirect bandgap and consequent weak absorption limits its potential in optoelectronics. This paper proposes to address this limitation by combining the sensitization of silicon with extraordinarily large absorption cross sections of quasi-2D colloidal quantum well nanoplatelets (NPLs) and to demonstrate excitation transfer from these NPLs to bulk silicon. Here, the distance dependency, d, of the resulting Förster resonant energy transfer from the NPL monolayer into a silicon substrate is systematically studied by tuning the thickness of a spacer layer (of Al 2 O 3 ) in between them (varied from 1 to 50 nm in thickness). A slowly varying distance dependence of d -1 with 25% efficiency at a donor-acceptor distance of 20 nm is observed. These results are corroborated with full electromagnetic solutions, which show that the inverse distance relationship emanates from the delocalized electric field intensity across both the NPL layer and the silicon because of the excitation of strong in-plane dipoles in the NPL monolayer. Background: Chronic heart failure can lead to frequent hospitalizations. Improving the discharge planning is an approach to reduce hospitalization. Since there has not been enough structured and effective discharge plan in Iranian hospitals, the present study was designed to optimize this program., Method: This is a participatory action research based on Hart and Bond's framework, conducted in a cardiovascular center in Iran from June 2016 to April 2018 during two cycles. Based on the optimization strategies obtained through semi-structured interviews with 15 participants, three focus group discussions and six expert panels, the operational discharge plan, including three areas of patient empowerment, telephone follow-up and home visit, was designed, implemented for three months and evaluated for 23 patients. European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior Scale and information registration form to record the number of hospitalization and length of hospital stay were used to collect the quantitative data. The non-parametric Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the data by SPSS 16. Qualitative participatory evaluation was performed during a group discussion and analyzed based on qualitative content analysis method with conventional approach P<0.05 was statistically significant., Results: Considering the solutions provided by the participants, the operational discharge plan was designed and implemented with the cooperation of relevant stakeholders. Evaluation showed significant effects of designed discharge plan on self-care behavior (P<0.001), number of hospitalizations (P<0.001), and length of hospital stay (P<0.001)., Conclusion: Changes were made to improve the heart failure patients' discharge plan using action research, which resulted in reduced re-hospitalization and improved self-care behavior., (Copyright: © International Journal of Community Based Nursing and Midwifery.)

Here, the first account of self-resonant fully colloidal μ-lasers made from colloidal quantum well (CQW) solution is reported. A deep patterning technique is developed to fabricate well-defined high aspect-ratio on-chip CQW resonators made of grating waveguides and in-plane reflectors. The fabricated waveguide-coupled laser, enabling tight optical confinement, assures in-plane lasing. CQWs of the patterned layers are closed-packed with sharp edges and residual-free lifted-off surfaces. Additionally, the method is successfully applied to various nanoparticles including colloidal quantum dots and metal nanoparticles. It is observed that the patterning process does not affect the nanocrystals (NCs) immobilized in the attained patterns and the different physical and chemical properties of the NCs remain pristine. Thanks to the deep patterning capability of the proposed method, patterns of NCs with subwavelength lateral feature sizes and micron-scale heights can possibly be fabricated in high aspect ratios.

The current practice of administering neurofeedback using the patients' visual and/or auditory channel(s) is known to cause fatigue, excessive boredom, and restricted mobility during prolonged therapy sessions. This paper proposes haptics as an alternative means to provide neurofeedback and investigates its effectiveness by conducting two user studies (Study- I & II) using a novel compact wearable haptic device that provides vibrotactile feedback to the user's neck. Each user study has three neurofeedback modes: visual-only, haptics-only, and visual-and-haptics combined. Study- I examines the participant's performance in a brain-training task by measuring their attention level (AL) and the task completion time (CT). Study- II, in addition to the brain-training task, investigates the participants' ability to perform a secondary task (playing a shape-sorting game) while receiving the neurofeedback. Results show that users performed similarly well in brain-training with haptics-only and visual-only feedback. However, when engaged in a secondary task, the users performed significantly better (AL and CT improved around 11% and 17%, respectively) with haptics, indicating a clear advantage of haptics over visual neurofeedback. Being able to perform routine activities during brain-training would likely increase user adherence to longer therapy sessions. In the future, we plan to verify these findings by conducting experiments on ADHD-patients.

We demonstrate amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in solution with ultralow thresholds of 30 μJ/cm 2 in red and of 44 μJ/cm 2 in green from engineered colloidal quantum well (CQW) heterostructures. For this purpose, CdSe/CdS core/crown CQWs, designed to hit the green region, and CdSe/CdS@Cd x Zn 1- x S core/crown@gradient-alloyed shell CQWs, further tuned to reach the red region by shell alloying, were employed to achieve high-performance ASE in the visible range. The net modal gain of these CQWs reaches 530 cm -1 for the green and 201 cm -1 for the red, 2-3 orders of magnitude larger than those of colloidal quantum dots (QDs) in solution. To explain the root cause for ultrahigh gain coefficient in solution, we show for the first time that the gain cross sections of these CQWs is ≥3.3 × 10 -14 cm 2 in the green and ≥1.3 × 10 -14 cm 2 in the red, which are two orders of magnitude larger compared to those of CQDs.

Objectives Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common disturbance among women of childbearing age. Aromatherapy is a commonly used form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to treat PMS. The purpose of this study is to quantify and summarize the effects of aromatherapy on premenstrual syndrome symptoms. Methods . PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched through relevant search terms until October 2020. The effect sizes were pooled as weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) using the random effect model. Egger tests and visual inspection of the funnel plot were performed to identify the existence of publication bias. The I -squared ( I 2 ) test was applied to measure heterogeneity. Results . Eight studies ( n  = 8) were included in this analysis. The quantitative synthesis of evidence found that aromatherapy decreases PMS scores (WMD -13.83; 95% CI (-22.04, -5.63), I 2  = 94.5%), total psychological symptoms of PMS (WMD -3.51; 95% CI (-4.84, -2.18), I 2  = 82.6%), anxiety of PMS (WMD-1.78; 95% CI (-3.17, -0.38), I 2  = 94.2%), depression of PMS (WMD-2.0; 95% CI (-3.65, -0.34), I 2  = 93.7%), and fatigue of PMS (WMD - 1.44; 95% CI (-2.44, -0.44), I 2  = 89.7%) compared to the control group. Conclusion . Aromatherapy is an effective tool for the relief of PMS symptoms.
