Abstract

Neste artigo, concentro-me sobre o problema da persuasão na obra de Platão e exponho as suas implicações filosóficas, políticas e educacionais. Começo traçando um panorama da persuasão na Grécia Antiga, tanto da atividade persuasiva quanto da figura mítica da deusa Persuasão. Depois, detenho-me sobre alguns casos emblemáticos do fracasso da persuasão socrática. Em seguida, viso reconstruir algumas causas que despontam nos diálogos platônicos para explicar o fracasso da persuasão socrática. Por fim, considero a reivindicação da retórica para a filosofia, defendida e desenvolvida no Fedro, como uma resposta diante do impasse de que a verdade não é autoevidente e, dessa forma, não pode ser transmitida imediata e mecanicamente de uma alma para outra.

Abstract

Abstract: Surinam cherry tree (Eugenia uniflora) is native to Brazil, but it is found in several subtropical countries of Latin America. Its fruit has different berries according to the maturation stage and variety. However, a genotype may have greater market potential, especially if intended for processing, as it produces seedless fruits. The aim of this study was to characterize the floral and reproductive biology of a E. uniflora apyrenic genotype, comparing possible differences with a pyrenic genotype. Works were carried at UTFPR – Câmpus of Dois Vizinhos, Brazil and EEAD (CSIC), Zaragoza, Spain. The period between the beginning of flowering and fruit maturation, anthesis time, quantification of the number of anthers per flower, pollen per anther, pollen grain development, and in vitropollen germination were evaluated. The pyrenic Surinam cherry genotype has higher number of anthers per flower, pollen per anther and pollen per flower. The in vitro viability of pollen grains was greater with flowers after anthesis and when longer incubation periods were used. Under natural conditions, pollen grain germination and pollen tube growth occur normally, with no self-incompatibility.

Abstract

Abstract This study compared the effects of different final irrigation protocols on the mechanical properties and structural integrity of root dentine. One-hundred eight teeth were instrumented and irrigated with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) using conventional irrigation (CI). Teeth were distributed into four groups based on final irrigation protocols: Control Group (CG): 17%EDTA/CI + H2O; G1: 2.5%NaOCl/Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI) + EDTA/PUI + NaOCl/PUI (60s each); G2: EDTA/PUI + NaOCl/PUI (30s each); G3: EDTA/PUI + NaOCl/PUI + H2O/PUI + CHX/PUI (30s each). Four tests were conducted: three-point flexural strength test, Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis, microhardness assessment, and the push-out bond strength (POBS) of the filling material to the root dentine. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey tests (Flexural strength), and Student t-test (Microhardness). Erosion scores and POBS were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests (α = 0.05). Results indicated no significant differences in flexural strength (p > 0.05) among groups. CG exhibited the lowest erosion scores in the cervical third. In the middle third, CG had lower scores than G1 and G2, while in the apical third, CG had lower scores than G1 (p < 0.05). Microhardness values decreased following the protocols (p < 0.05), except for the CG (p > 0.05). G2 displayed higher POBS values in the middle and apical thirds (p < 0.05). The protocols did not significantly influence the flexural strength of root dentine. However, they did affect microhardness and promoted greater erosion. The best results for POBS were observed when the final irrigation involved the sequential use of EDTA and NaOCl employing PUI for 30 seconds in each solution.

Abstract

Objective: To assess the influence of social support, smoking, and alcohol use on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of pregnant women. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a random sample of 256 pregnant women at a public healthcare service in southern Brazil. OHRQoL was measured using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) questionnaire. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered to collect demographic, socioeconomic, social support, and deleterious habits data. Clinical examinations were performed to diagnose dental caries (DMFT index) and gingivitis (marginal gingival bleeding). A Poisson regression model was used to investigate the influence of pregnant' characteristics on OHRQoL. With this approach, we calculated rate ratio (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results: The mean overall OHIP-14 score in the sample was 9.74 (SD=9.00). Pregnant women who presented poor social support reported the worst OHRQoL. Regarding deleterious habits, women who drank alcohol (RR=1.18; IC 95%: 1.05-1.33) and smoked (RR=1.20; 95% IC: 1.07-1.35) during pregnancy had higher means in OHIP-14. In addition, older and non-white women who presented untreated dental caries, ≥15% of marginal gingival bleeding, and low household income also reported worse OHRQoL. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that low support social and poor habits during pregnancy influence women's OHRQoL.

37. 'Raiding Africa': Motor Raid Films and Italian Economic Imperialism after the End of Colonial Empire

Abstract

This essay explores a series of sponsored Italian nonfiction films representing trans-African car crossings, made after the dismantling of Italy's colonial empire following World War II. I focus on two significant examples of what are commonly referred to as "motor raid films"---that is, film works shot during the Tripoli-Mogadishu and the Algiers-Cape Town crossings, produced by the main national nonfiction film companies, and sponsored by the major automotive firms between 1950 and 1952. Their production histories are traced using the film materials preserved by the Istituto Luce's Archive and Archivio Nazionale Cinema Impresa, with reference to the corporate sources in Fiat's and Alfa's documentation centers. I investigate how cinema navigated the end of fascist territorial imperialism to become useful to the continuation of economic imperialism in the postwar free-market economy. Taking a cue from the scholarship on useful cinema and adopting an "infrastructural disposition," I read these films as material and discursive manifestations of broader configurations of power and extraction. Their "usefulness" is then rethought in reference to what has been called the "automobility system" or "regime," retracing how their production processes intersected the car companies' extractive interests toward African lands. I argue that, while contributing to expand their markets, the motor raid films supported the car manufacturers' arguments in favor of the extraction of labor in former Italian colonies and of raw materials in parts of the continent still dominated by other European powers. Ultimately, the films advocated an audiovisual and discursive "reframing" of Africa by representing it as a place of transit and of resource extraction, a mere testing ground for Western industries.

Abstract

Introdução: No diagnóstico de Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis (ISTs), testes rápidos colorimétricos são frequentemente executados no Point of Care (POC), mas possuem menor sensibilidade e especificidade. Os biossensores eletroquímicos, por sua vez, associam elementos biológicos (analito e biorreceptor) em uma plataforma capaz de captar esta interação e transformar a energia desta reação em um sinal elétrico, garantindo ao diagnóstico rapidez, alta sensibilidade e especificidade. Objetivo: O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi estabelecer a prova de conceito de uma plataforma de PLA-Grafeno/Fibroína (PLA-G/F), impressa por manufatura aditiva, destinada à constituição de biossensores eletroquímicos para diagnóstico de ISTs. Método: Filamentos de PLA e PLA-G foram utilizados para a impressão de plataformas por impressão 3D. A seguir, foi depositada na região compatível com o eletrodo uma camada de Fibroína a 0,04%, 0,4% e 4%. A plataforma resultante foi submetida à caracterização química, através da Espectroscopia na Região do Infravermelho com Transformada de Fourier (FTIR) e Difração de Raios-X (DRX), e condutométrica, a fim de estabelecer o conceito proposto. Resultados: Os espectros de FT-IR de PLA, PLA-G e PLA-G/F evidenciaram presença de grupos funcionais -CH, C = O e C-O-C, característicos do PLA e PLA-G. Foi também identificada a presença das bandas correspondentes às vibrações de estiramento N-H e O-H, por sua vez correspondentes à amida I e II pertencentes ao domínio amorfo da Fibroína. Nos espectros de DRX, foram observados padrões de difração correspondentes à célula cristalina do PLA e do Grafeno oxidado. Análises de impedância em função da frequência em medições realizadas na plataforma a seco e com álcool etílico hidratado a 70° INPM sob a sua superfície demostraram que a resistência a seco concentra-se em valores entre 80 kΩ e 100 kΩ, com atividade predominante até 10 kHz. Nos testes com álcool 70%, houve aumento da resistência, atingindo de 500 kΩ a 1 MΩ, na mesma faixa de frequência. Nas duas situações foi possível caracterizar a variação da impedância na plataforma indicando a viabilidade de diagnósticos por meio de medições elétricas. Conclusão: Os resultados correspondentes à caracterização fisicoquímica das amostras sustentam a prova de conceito estabelecida a respeito da utilização da plataforma PLA-G/F para a produção de biossensores eletroquímicos, reforçando o potencial de utilização como plataforma para a obtenção sensores eletroquímicos para diagnósticos das ISTs no POC.
