This contribution examines the Iron Age textiles (8th−4th century BCE) kept at the Dolenjski muzej in Novo mesto, Slovenia, with the aim of identifying their raw materials, technologies, functions and social significance and situating them in a wider European context. The primary textile weave identified is a wool twill, which is typical for the Hallstatt culture and Italic textile traditions. Wool quality analysis indicates a local raw material with different processing methods. Certain diachronic changes are identified in textile structural characteristics, which may be indicative of influences from other regions.

The paper presents the archaeological sites in the environs of the modern settlement of Bela Cerkev and the results of archaeological excavations in 2002, prior to motorway construction. Excavations at four (?) different, but contiguous locations (Dolge njive, Draga 1, Draga 2 in Draga 3) revealed and documented part of the line of the road, the masonry foundations of buildings, numerous post-built structures, a cemetery and domestic material, dating to the Roman period. The paper also considers hypotheses surrounding the location of the Roman-period roadside settlement of Crucium. It is posited that the excavation on these sites have revealed the location of the Roman roadside settlement of Crucium, which was occcupied or functioned in the period from the 1st to the 4th Centuries AD.

Leta 2002 so na pobočju Gorjancev v bližini Gorenjega Suhadola naleteli na večji depo bronastih predmetov. Sestavljajo ga napadalno orožje, orodje, nakit, pločevina in ingoti. Časovni razpon predmetov sega od srednje bronaste dobe do začetka mlajšega obdobja kulture žarnih grobišč. Primerjave za večino predmetov iz depoja se najdejo v depojih druge stopnje KŽG iz Karpatske kotline in z zahodnega Balkana.

S sondiranjem, opravljenim leta 1998, smo odkrili, da je bilo Gradišče obljudeno v petih arheoloških obdobjih. Najstarejši obiski vzpetine segajo morda že v neolitik, vsekakor pa v starejši del bakrene dobe, ko vzpetina še ni bila utrjena. V pozni bronasti dobi je naselje dobilo lesen opaž, napolnjen z zemljo, ki je svoj konec doživel v požaru. V starejši in mlajši železni dobi je bilo naselje obdano s kamnitim suhim zidom. V halštatski dobi je bil zid širok okoli 2 m, v latenski je bil ožji, v širino je meril okoli 1,2 metra. Posamezne najdbe govorijo za prisotnost človeka tudi v času pozne antike. Ker pa iz tistega časa ni sledov utrditve, je vzpetina verjetno služila kot občasno pribežališče.

Excavations at Podsmreka near Višnja Gora unearthed a Bronze Age settlement and associated five burials of children or juvenile individuals. They brought to light a wealth of finds that include accumulations of red mudstone, yellow siltstone and bauxite cobbles, the collecting and processing of which was an important activity of the settlement’s inhabitants, but also quantities of pottery that is the topic of this contribution discussing, more particularly, its typological and chronological attribution. Together with the pottery from Oloris, it defines the phenomenon that is the Oloris-Podsmreka horizon, which covers the Middle and transition to the Late Bronze Age in the south-eastern Alpine area.

Cerklje ob krki je najdišče z najstarejšimi ostanki zgodnjeslovanske poselitve na Dolenjskem. Analize lončenine in radiokarbonskih datacij so nakazale dve fazi poselitve, prvo v 6. st. in v prvi polovici 7., drugo med sredino 10. in sredino 12. st. Tri pridobljene radiokarbonske datacije nakazujejo naselitev Slovanov v dolino krke v času med letoma 585 in 660, verjetno povezano z odselitvijo langobardov v Italijo leta 568 in prihodom Avarov v Panonsko nižino. najdbe kosti visokoraslega goveda italskega porekla morda kažejo na roparske pohode na ozemlje pod upravo Bizanca, ki jih omenjajo pisni viri. četrta radiokarbonska datacija in lončenina praškega tipa z arhaičnimi ustji pa dopuščata možnost, da so manjše skupine Slovanov tu bivale pred sredino 6. st., kar povezujemo z možnim angažmajem Slovanov pri varovanju meje vzhodnorimskega cesarstva ali pri pohodih bizantinske vojske z območij južne Donave proti Italiji, v katerih so služili kot najemniški vojaki. Mlajšo fazo poselitve v Cerkljah povezujemo z agrarnim zaledjem gospostva Starega gradu v Podbočju.

Prazgodovinski kompleks Cvinger pri Dolenjskih Toplicah leži na strateški točki na prehodu med Dolenjsko in Belo krajino. Tukaj odkrite najdbe so imele pomembno vlogo pri opredelitvi mlajšega halštatskega obdobja v jugovzhodnih Alpah. Prav tako pomembno je odkritje železarsko-talilniškega območja. V zadnjih letih pa je bil Cvinger predmet interdisciplinarnih raziskav, ki so povezale sodobne tehnike daljinskega zaznavanja, kot so zračno lasersko skeniranje in geofizikalne meritve, s tradicionalnimi arheološkimi metodami. Rezultati so pripeljali do novih dognanj o celotnem kompleksu, vključno z natančnejšo datacijo talilniškega območja, pridobljeno z metodo arheomagnetnega datiranja.

Dolenjska kulturna skupina je ena izmed bolje raziskanih predelov jugovzhodnoalpske halštatske kulture, ki obsega poleg Dolenjske tudi Belo krajino in Gorjance/Žumberak ter Posavje in Zasavje. Solidno osnovo zanjo predstavlja krono- loška shema, ki jo je predložil S. Gabrovec in ki je bila dopolnjena predvsem s strani njegovih učencev. Bistveno nova so spoznanja, ki so jih prinesle raziskave o poselitvi teritorija dolenjske skupine, o njenih naselbinah ter utrdbah ter njeni organiziranosti. Nove vidike so odprla tudi novejša arheološka izkopavanja, zlasti gomilnih nekropol v Novem mestu in Budinjaku. Pogrebni običaji, kot se odražajo v različnih načinih pokopavanja (žgani, skeletni) in v različnih velikostih in strukturiranosti gomil (gomile z majhnim ali večjim številom grobov, gomile s centralnim grobom ali brez, gomile z grobovi v koncentrično razporejenih krogih, gomile z različno usmerjenostjo grobov ipd.) kažejo na kompleksnost halštatske družbe, na njeno socialno razslojenost in verovanjske predstave. Hkrati pa se dolenjska halštatska skupina skozi grobne pridatke kaže kot izrazito vojaško organizirana družba v primerjavi z drugimi skupinami jugovzhodnoalpskega halštatskega kroga.

A large karst doline at section Hrastje -- Lešnica in the Dolenjska region (SE Slovenia) was uncovered during the construction of Slovene highway No. A2. Its fill consists of brownish-yellow clay to silt with plant remains and ferrugineous coatings after root casts and gastropods (paleosol horizon) in the bottom, and overlying thick lacustrine laminated grey clayey sediments which were partly rubified. Brownish-yellow clay to silt contains quartz, chlorite, muscovite and feldspars transported as external clastic material from evolved karst and non-carbonate landscapes from surroundings into the site. The material is well weathered only in the area of the paleosol horizon. The strongly impoverished malacocoenosis indicates any Quaternary warm phase characterized by light semi-open forest with patches of open ground habitats. Only the last paleomagnetic sample in the bottom of sediment sequence shows reverse polarity of magnetic field and represents the geomagnetic excursion, i.e., the Blake excursion at ca 120-112 ka (MIS 5e), rather than Brunhes/Matuyama boundary at 0.78 Ma (MIS 19). Thick lacustrine laminated grey clayey sediments above are also dominated by quartz, muscovite, chlorite and feldspar. That overlying sediment was almost unweathered (content of feldspars, muscovite and chlorite); it was only slightly rubified on its surface, in middle part of the section and at the contact with the underlying karstified limestone slope of the depression. The grey sediment has a different mineralogical composition than underlying soils (e.g., lack of quartz, chlorite) and non-carbonate residue of the host limestone. Therefore, the grey sediments could not serve as a parent (source) material for terra rossa formation in the broader area (i.e., polygenetic red soils developed in paleoclimate related to current Mediterranean climatic conditions). Laminated grey sediment was deposited in a rather cold climate. Relatively poor palynospectra may indicate transport of pollen grains out of the depocentre with flowing water and/or the rapid deposition. The latter is supported by insufficiently centered paleosecular variations. Plant assemblages indicate that the dominant cover of the surrounding landscape was temperate climatic zone riparian forest with some quite humid environment as wetlands and ponds on periodically flooded plain. The regional correlation, based especially on an abundance of Fagus, indicates the deposition at the beginning of the last glacial cycle (Würmian) in its warmer substage -- MIS 5c (ca 105-95 ka). All paleomagnetic samples from this part of the sediment section show normal magnetization and negligible clockwise rotation of 1.8° ± 4.7°. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses fossil porgy fish teeth found in Middle Miocene (Badenian) sandy marl from Mastni hrib near Škocjan in Dolenjska. The teeth belong to the species Pagrus cinctus (Agassiz, 1836) and represent the first find in the Krka basin. In sediments of the Central Paratethys and the Mediterranean, the fossil remains of porgy fish are relatively common.

Predstavljamo rezultate raziskovanj, ki so potekala v letih 2013–2014 in 2016 na Viru pri Stični. Z zaščitnimi arheološkimi izkopavanji ob nadzoru gradbenih del so bili na robu gomilnega grobišča odkriti plani žgani grobovi iz začetka železne dobe na Dolenjskem. Žgani in skeletni grobovi so izkopani tudi v dveh novoodkritih gomilah(?) – gomilah 1A in 6A. Še pomembnejše pa je odkritje latenskega grobišča na terasi na vznožju naselja, kjer so bili odkriti trije grobovi. V mlajšo železno dobo najverjetneje sodijo še ostaline metalurške dejavnosti na lokaciji Kojina, zahodno od gomilnega grobišča.

Sondažna izkopavanja na Gradcu pri Blečjem Vrhu so razkrila, da je bila vzpetina poseljena v več prazgodovinskih obdobjih. Najstarejše najdbe so ali s konca mlajše kamene dobe ali iz bakrene dobe, ko je bilo naselje verjetno prvič utrjeno s kamnitim obzidjem. V času horizonta certoških fibul je na ruševinah prvega obzidja zraslo novo obzidje. Debele plasti z železovo žlindro pričajo, da je bil Gradec v tem času pomembno železarsko središče. Nato življenje na Gradcu za nekaj časa zamre. Ponovno je bil obljuden v starejšem delu poznega latena (stopnja Mokronog IIIa). Tudi takrat je bil gospodarski temelj predelava železove rude. Številni odlomki finega posodja in amfora za vino govorijo za relativno blagostanje poznolatenskih prebivalcev Gradca.

The article deals with a Roman tombstone discovered in 2008 during the renovation of the façade of the church of St. Peter at Jezero near Trebnje, which mentioned two town magistrates of Celeia, Gaius Longinius Severinus, and his son, Longinius Avitus. The circumstances of the discovery are described, as are other worked Roman stones reused in the church wall, the history of the church, the method of presentation and conservation of the monuments, the results of the geological analysis of the stones, and the geophysical investigation of the site. The description of the monument is followed by a textual analysis and historical commentary. The list of town magistrates of Celeia, who were previously attested mostly on inscriptions from the southern part of the province of Noricum, has thus been supplemented for the first time with this newly found inscription from the province of Pannonia

The burial deposits from the grave with a cuirass from tumulus 52 or IV at Stična, excavated by the Duchess of Mecklenburg in 1913, have already been published four times and have been differently presented each time. None of the four versions completely corresponds with the data in the notes of the Duchess’s secretary, Gustav Goldberg. Of the finds that have previously been attributed to this grave, only a cuirass, a kernos and a small pot can definitely be ascribed to it. In addition, a fluted ciborium and spearheads may derive from the grave. Two lids, two smaller ciboria and 67 dome-shaped loop-backed buttons are certainly not from this burial. The smaller ciboria and the lids are from another Stična grave, from Magdalenska gora or perhaps some other cemetery of the Dolenjska (Lower Carniola) Hallstatt culture, while the dome-shaped buttons originate from the cemetery at Stražni dol near Golek pri Vinici.Rainer-Maria Weiss ascribed a belt-plate with figurative ornament depicting a procession of men and a woman to a grave with a cuirass from tumulus 52. Biba Teržan ascribed the same belt-plate to a grave with a double-crested helmet from tumulus 55 or VI at Stična. However, the belt-plate is not from any of these graves.The grave groups of the Mecklenburg Collection are unreliable. Finds from other graves from the same or even from a different site have sometimes been added to the Hallstatt period graves from Magdalenska gora and Stična. Some are undoubtedly from the Latest Hallstatt-La Tène cemetery at Stražni dol near Golek pri Vinici (e.g. dome-shaped buttons of the Vinica type, bronze sun rings, bronze shepherd’s crook pins and amber beads of Palavestra’s types 8d and 8e). Conversely, some grave groups from Golek pri Vinici contain Hallstatt period finds that were excavated by the Duchess on Magdalenska gora and at Stična

V članku objavljamo rezultate terenskega pregleda in sondiranj najdišč na severnih pobočjih Gorjancev južno od Šentjerneja. Predstavljena je tudi analiza arhivskih virov, ki govore o izkopa-vanju velike poznolatenske in zgodnjerimske nekropole Hribec v Mihovem. S pomočjo skic in zapisov smo uspeli rekonstruirati načrt grobišča in ga umestiti v prostor. Raziskave so pokazale, da je bilo širše območje Mihovega neprekinjeno poseljeno skozi celo prvo tisočletje pred Kr.

V članku je predstavljeno starejšeželeznodobno gomilnogrobišče v Sajevcah na Dolenjskem.Prve gomile so bile odkrite leta 1878, tukaj objavljene najd-be pa izhajajo iz raziskav 1879, 1902 in iz zaščitnih izkopa-vanj leta 1982. Grobišče je z najdbami in načinom pokopa datiranov 7. st. Podrobneje sta predstavljena dva groba, ki izstopata pokonstrukciji in inventarju, posebej pa še pasna oprava tipa Libnain zlato okrasje.

V članku je predstavljen železnodobni poselitveni komplekspri Dolenjskih Toplicah, ki ga sestavljajo tri gomilne nekropo-le, naselje in železarski talilniški prostor. Poseben poudarek jebil dan raziskavam naselja, kjer so med leti 1986-1991 izkopališest sond. Raziskave so pokazale, da je bil Cvinger pri Dolenj-skih Toplicah poseljen ob koncu pozne bronaste dobe. Po tejprvi poselitveni fazi, ko so naselje utrdili z zemljenim okopom,je bil Cvinger dalj časa opuščen. Ponovno so ga poselili šelev mladohalštatskem obdobju. V tem času so ga znova utrdili,tokrat s kamnitim obzidjem. Obljudenost naselja v mlajši železnidobi za zdaj ni dokazana
