Abstract

A new way to study the spin-isospin dependence of the $\Xi N$ interaction is explored through the energy levels of $\Xi N\alpha$ and $\Xi N\alpha \alpha$ systems with $\alpha$ being a spectator to attract the $ \Xi N$ pair without changing its spin-isospin structure. By using the Gaussian expansion method (GEM) with the state-of-the-art $\Xi N$ potential obtained from lattice QCD calculations, it is found that $\Xi N\alpha \alpha$ has spin-doublet bound states with $J^{\pi}={1^-}$ and $2^-$ in both isospin triplet and singlet channels. The inversion of the $1^-$-$2^-$ spin-doublet between the iso-triplet and the iso-singlet is found to be strongly correlated with the relative strengths of the $\Xi N$ interaction in the $^{11}{\rm S}_0, ^{13}{\rm S}_1,^{31}{\rm S}_0$ and $^{33}{\rm S}_1$ channels. The $(K^-, K^+)$ and $(K^-,K^0)$ reactions on the $^{10}$B target are proposed to produce those bound states., Comment: 5pages, 5figures

The purpose of this study was to examine the association between cognitive function at baseline and change in physical performance after exercise intervention in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.Methods: Forty-four older adults diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment based on the Peterson criteria (mean age 74.8 years) consented to and completed a 6-month twice weekly exercise intervention. The Timed Up and Go (TUG) test was used as a measure of physical performance. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Trail Making Test Part B, Geriatric Depression Scale, baseline muscle strength of knee extension, and attendance rate of intervention, were measured as factors for predicting trainability.Results: In the correlation analysis, the change in TUG showed modest correlations with attendance rate in the exercise program (r = -0.354, P = 0.027) and MMSE at baseline (r = -0.321, P = 0.034). A multiple regression analysis revealed that change in TUG was independently associated with attendance rate (ß = -0.322, P = 0.026) and MMSE score (ß = -0.295, P = 0.041), controlling for age and gender.Conclusion: General cognitive function was associated with improvements in physical performance after exercise intervention in subjects with mild cognitive impairment. Further research is needed to examine the effects of exercise programs designed to address cognitive obstacles in older adults with mild cognitive impairment.Keywords: exercise, mobility, rehabilitation, Timed Up and Go test

We present a case of a 63-year-old man who presented with sudden onset of loss of consciousness after hitting his head. After immediate resuscitation, he showed quadriplegia and absence of spontaneous breathing. Brain and cervical spine magnetic resonance imaging revealed an atlantoaxial subluxation, fractured C2 odontoid process, left vertebral artery occlusion, and bilateral extensive ischemia in the medulla oblongata and high cervical spinal cord. Abstract

We conducted the coincidence measurement of α particles inelastically scattered from $^{20}$Ne at 0° and decay charged particles in order to search for the alpha-particle condensed state. We compared the measured excitation-energy spectrum and decay branching ratio with the statistical-decay-model calculations, and found that the newly observed states at Ex=23.6, 21.8, and 21.2 MeV in $^{20}$Ne are strongly coupled to a candidate for the 4α condensed state in $^{16}$O. This result presents the first strong evidence that these states are the candidates for the 5α condensed state.
