This article discusses one-sided screen discourse and the properties of encoding and decoding in it. The relevance of the research is conditioned by the dominance of artificially created screen information environment in modern communication and its increasing influence on the formation of public opinion, including through the distortion of information. The aim of this article is to describe the communication that takes place in one-way screen discourse in terms of encoding and decoding, as well as to identify the influence of these processes on information exchange. The source of material of the study was the detective series “Voskresensky” (8 episodes, 1 season), a total of 432 min were analysed. Screen discourse, being a part of mass communication, is inextricably linked to the activity and “sociality” of the communicative process. In this regard, this study adopts the activity concept and also implements a special discursive-semiotic approach to the organisation of screen discourse. Interpretation, analysis, synthesis, descriptive method, method of contextual analysis, functional-pragmatic methods were chosen as research methods. In the course of the research the following results were found. Information exchange in screen discourse can be characterised as: free, disequilibrium and mediated. Engineering and constructive activity is its main support. When encoding a screen message, the addresser, using a variety of codes according to his own intention, introduces variants and various possibilities into it, allowing the addressee to make a meaningful choice among them providing freedom of interpretation. The addressee, proceeding from the external expression - the meaningful structures embedded in the screen “speech” - reconstructs the process of creating the screen message, and relying on his knowledge of the “language” of screenness, through this external expression goes outwards to the content and meanings. The dialectical unity of symmetry and asymmetry is one of the main characteristics of information exchange in one-sided screen discourse. Symmetry is responsible for the ease of understanding the broadcast information, while asymmetry is responsible for endless semiosis. This combination makes it voluminous and dynamic.

Resumo: A língua está envolvida nos processos de construção da identidade e da alteridade. Por isso, ela pode também ser utilizada para diferenciar negativamente o outro a partir de processos de julgamento da fala alheia. O presente artigo apresenta algumas considerações a respeito do preconceito linguístico contra os imigrantes asiáticos e os seus descendentes no Brasil. Trata-se de um trabalho de viés histórico e que utiliza a semiótica discursiva francesa para analisar textos jornalísticos publicados a partir da segunda metade do século XX até os dias atuais. A partir do exame das reportagens, observou-se a constante sanção sobre o mau uso que os imigrantes japoneses e os estudantes de origem asiática fazem da língua portuguesa, a despeito do destaque igualmente constante das qualidades de trabalhadores e de estudantes que eles comportam nesses discursos. Desse modo, mesmo com uma imagem atualmente positiva perante a sociedade brasileira, permanece o preconceito linguístico contra os indivíduos de origem asiática no país. Therefore, it can also be used to differentiate negatively the other from processes of judgment of the speech of others. This article presents some considerations regarding linguistic prejudice against Asian immigrants and their descendants in Brazil. It is a work of historical bias and that uses French discursive semiotics to analyze journalistic texts published from the second half of the twentieth century until the present day. From the examination of the reports, the constant sanction on the misuse that Japanese immigrants and students of Asian origin do of the Portuguese language was observed, in spite of the equally constant prominence of the qualities of workers and students that they carry in these speeches. Thus, even with a currently positive image for Brazilian society, linguistic prejudice remains against individuals of Asian origin in the country. The gender identity subject has been the focus of several social and political debates in which: there are individuals who try to eliminate social inequalities regarding gender; and, on the other hand, there are those who seek for visibility, fighting for their rights to be validated. Both of the groups constitute part of the LGBTTQI+ community. Thus, the present study refers to a research carried out at a university in the interior of São Paulo, whose corpus consists of statements made by undergraduate students that discuss the themes of identity, gender, prejudice and discrimination. Once it is a multifaceted theme, in which the phenomena of intolerance, hatred and fear emerge – in addition to discussions and positions that involve political, religious and ideological issues – the present work draws on the French discursive semiotics, by Algirdas Julien Greimas and collaborators. In conclusion, in their discourses, it was observed the identity transformation through the subjective confrontation of some malevolent passions, such as hatred and intolerance.
