OBJECTIVE: To investigate predictors of anticoagulation efficacy in deep venous thrombosis (DVT) by ultrasound elastography (UE). METHODS: The basic clinical, laboratory and ultrasound treatment data of fifty-eight patients with DVT were collected and analyzed. Then the results of ultrasound after 3-month anticoagulation treatment were compared among different groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent risk factors that affected anticoagulation efficacy. The predictive efficacy of each independent risk factor was accessed by drawing operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: According to the regression analysis, the elastic modulus (OR = 0.631, P = 0.001) and strain rate ratio (OR = 0.332, P = 0.006) were identified as independent risk factors for the effectiveness of anticoagulation therapy in patients with DVT. According to the ROC curves, elastic modulus and strain rate ratio could predict effective anticoagulation therapy for DVT, and the optimal threshold values were 22.10 kPa and 1.80 respectively. The corresponding AUC values were 0.879 and 0.854, with a sensitivity of 71.4% and 59.5%, a specificity of 93.7%, and a Youden index of 65.1% and 62.7%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The elastic modulus (≤22.10 kPa) or strain rate ratio (≤1.80) of the thrombus were independent predictors for the effectiveness of anticoagulation therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BackgroundHistone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) is essential in the malignant progression of tumors. However, there is no obvious relationship between the expression of HDAC1 and the survival of lung cancer patients. Herein, we explored the involvement of minichromosome maintenance complex component 5 (MCM5) and HDAC1 interaction in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-dependent malignant progression of lung cancer.MethodsWe analyzed the expression of MCM5 and HDAC1 in The Cancer Genome Atlas database and clinical samples, as well as their impact on patient survival. Cell and animal experiments were performed to verify the promotion of EMT in lung cancer cells mediated by MCM5 and HDAC1.ResultsWe found that lung adenocarcinoma patients with high expression of MCM5 and HDAC1 had poor survival time. Overexpression of MCM5 and HDAC1 in A549 and H1975 cells can promote proliferation and invasion in vitro and tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Moreover, astragaloside IV can block the interaction between HDAC1 and MCM5, which can then inhibit the malignant progression of lung cancer in vivo and in vitro.ConclusionThe interaction between MCM5 and HDAC1 aggravated the EMT-dependent malignant progression of lung cancer. Astragaloside IV can block the interaction between MCM5 and HDAC1 to inhibit the progression of lung cancer.

Abstract Background Enzymatic biodegradation of organophosphate pesticides (OPs) is a promising technology to remove these toxic compounds. However, its application in industrial washing was restricted by the lack of efficient immobilized enzymes that can work at high temperatures and high pHs in the presence of various detergents. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a simple method to prepare a robust immobilized enzyme for efficient degradation of OPs. Results An organophosphate hydrolase (OPH), PoOPHM9, was conjugated and immobilized with a commercially available polymer, Pluronic F127. The prepared cross-linked enzyme-polymer conjugate (CLEPC) displayed higher pH stability in the range from 7.0 to 11.0 and a higher optimal temperature (50 °C) than that of free PoOPHM9 (30 °C). Its half-life and apparent k cat/K M reached 12.8 h at 50 °C and 390.3 ± 7.8 mM−1 s−1, respectively, which were even better than that of the traditional cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEA, 7.2 h and 10.9 ± 1.7 mM−1 s−1). The activity of PoOPHM9 CLEPC was further enhanced up to 2.5-fold by the anionic, nonionic and biocompatible detergents, which was first observed. 0.15 mM Malathion was degraded completely by PoOPHM9 CLEPC after activation within 10 min in the presence of 0.1% (w/w) detergents of all types at pH 9.0 and 25 °C, demonstrating its capability in degrading OPs at practically relevant conditions. Conclusion The conjugation of Pluronic F127 in enzyme immobilization could effectively reduce the activity loss of immobilized enzymes and enhance their stability and activity at high temperatures and high pHs. In addition, the activity of CLEPC can be even enhanced in the presence of various detergents. This technology can be extended easily to produce other immobilized polymer-enzyme conjugates due to its simplicity.

It has been recognized that purposefully designed surface texturing can contribute to the improvement of tribological performance of elements and friction reduction. However, its optimal parameters may depend on the operating conditions. This paper investigated the effect of a triangle-shaped dimples array on the tribological performance of the lubricated point-contacts under different lubrication regimes, based on the rotational sliding experiment of a patterned steel disk against smooth steel balls. The dimples arrays were produced by laser process and characterized by the 3D profilometer. A series of tests were conducted with different dimple parameters including depth, coverage ratio, size, and direction. Stribecklike curves were obtained to depict the transition of lubrication regimes, and the electrical contact resistance was utilized to qualitatively characterize the lubrication status. The test results showed that the dimples arrays with different sizes, depths and coverage ratios had a distinct effect on the friction behaviors. Compared with the nontextured surfaces, when the dimple depth decreased from 30µm to zero with fixed coverage ratio and size, the friction coefficient firstly decreased, and then increased. The friction coefficient finally approached that of the nontextured surface, during which the lowest value appeared at the dimple depth of approximately 10~15 µm. The coverage ratio of texture showed the similar effect on the friction coefficient. Usually, the coverage ratio of approximately 10% resulted in the lowest friction coefficient. The dimple size and direction also had obvious effects on the friction coefficient. Thus, it can be concluded that there exists a set of optimal values for the dimple depth, coverage ratio, size, and direction to realize the friction reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Short-term load forecast (STLF) plays an important role in power system operations. This paper proposes a spline bases-assisted Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) for STLF with a semi-parametric model being adopted to determine the suitable spline bases for constructing the RNN model. To reduce the exposure to real-time uncertainties, interpolation is achieved by an adapted mean adjustment and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) scheme for finer time interval forecast adjustment. To circumvent the effects of forecasted apparent temperature bias, the forecasted temperatures issued by the weather bureau are adjusted using the average of the forecast errors over the preceding 28 days. The proposed RNN model is trained using 15-min interval load data from the Taiwan Power Company (TPC) and has been used by system operators since 2019. Forecast results show that the spline bases-assisted RNN-STLF method accurately predicts the short-term variations in power demand over the studied time period. The proposed real-time short-term load calibration scheme can help accommodate unexpected changes in load patterns and shows great potential for real-time applications.

Abstract Background In recent years, systemic chemotherapy and molecular targeted therapy have become standard first-line treatments for locally advanced or metastatic nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The objective of this survey was to investigate first-line anticancer treatment patterns and gene aberration test status of patients with advanced nonsquamous NSCLC in China. Methods Patients included in this study had unresectable Stage IIIB/IV nonsquamous NSCLC and were admitted during August 2015 to March 2016 into one of 12 tertiary hospitals throughout China for first-line anticancer treatment. Patient data (demographics, NSCLC histologic type, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group [ECOG] Performance Status [PS], gene aberration test and results [if performed], and first-line anticancer treatment regimen) were extracted from medical charts and entered into Medical Record Abstraction Forms (MERAFs), which were collated for analysis. Results Overall, 1041 MERAFs were collected and data from 932 MERAFs were included for analysis. Patients with unresectable Stage IIIB/IV nonsquamous NSCLC had a median age of 59 years, 56.4% were male, 58.2% were never smokers, 95.0% had adenocarcinoma, and 92.9% had an ECOG PS ≤1. A total of 665 (71.4%) patients had gene aberration tests; 46.5% (309/665) had epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutations, 11.5% (48/416) had anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene fusions, and 0.8% (1/128) had a c-ros oncogene 1 gene fusion. The most common first-line treatment regimen for unresectable Stage IIIB/IV nonsquamous NSCLC was chemotherapy (72.5%, 676/932), followed by tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs; 26.1%, 243/932), and TKIs plus chemotherapy (1.4%, 13/932). Most chemotherapy regimens were platinum-doublet regimens (93.5%, 631/676) and pemetrexed was the most common nonplatinum chemotherapy-backbone agent (70.2%, 443/631) in platinum-doublet regimens. Most EGFR mutation-positive patients (66.3%, 205/309) were treated with EGFR-TKIs. Conclusions Findings from our survey of 12 tertiary hospitals throughout China showed an increased rate of gene aberration testing, compared with those rates reported in previous surveys, for patients with advanced nonsquamous NSCLC. In addition, pemetrexed/platinum-doublet chemotherapy was the predominant first-line chemotherapy regimen for this population. A new triterpenoid, 2β,3β,19α,24-tetrahydroxy-23-norurs-12-en-28-oic acid (4), together with three known triterpenoids 3-oxo-19α,23,24-trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (1), 2α,3β,19α,23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (2), 2α,3α,19α,23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (3), was isolated from the roots of Symplocos chinensis. Recent efforts in the network function virtualization (NFV) field have targeted ameliorating end-to-end latency of service function chains (SFCs) using network function (NF) composition. NF composition breaks the NF into building blocks and decides the appropriate combination for these blocks. However, two issues remain in current NF composition methods: (1) In the sequential scope, the fine-grained function's block-level composition eliminates redundancy, but with the drawback of flexibility restriction. (2) In the vertical scope, complete NF parallelism adds overhead in packet copying and reordering. To reconcile this, here we present ParaGraph, a subgraph-level NF composition with delay-balanced parallelism. ParaGraph has three main components: an NF subgraph-extraction module that extrapolates right-grained core function subgraphs from NFs; an orchestrator that dynamically composes subgraphs with delay-balanced parallelism; and an infrastructure performing lightweight packet copying and merging. We implement a ParaGraph prototype based on Click and the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK); extensive evaluations show that with minimum overhead, ParaGraph reaches line-speed packet processing and reduces latency by up to 55% compared to state-of-the-art methods.

Objective: To investigate anatomical variations in the renal arteries of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) using computed tomography angiography (CTA)., Methods: Patients diagnosed with RCC were evaluated using CTA prior to undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy. Any anatomical variations of the renal arteries on the side affected by the RCC were recorded. The CTA results were compared with the observations made during surgery and those produced by conventional digital subtraction angiography., Results: A total of 107 patients with RCC were enrolled in the study. Multiple renal arteries were found in 11 patients (10.3%). Accessory renal inferior polar arteries were the most common type of multiple renal arteries. Multiple renal arteries acting as the feeding arteries to the RCC were found in five patients (4.7%)., Conclusion: CTA can be used as part of the preoperative evaluation prior to laparoscopic nephrectomy to provide anatomical information about the presence of multiple renal arteries in the affected kidney of patients with RCC. This could help with planning the surgery and reducing surgical complications.
