Chapter XV of the book "The Year's Work in English Studies," Volume 87, edited by William Baker and Kenneth Womack is presented. It offers a look at numerous studies of American literature to 1900. The works under analysis in Michael Colacurcio's "Godly Letters: The Literature of the American Puritans" include "New English Canaan," by Thomas Morton, and "The Way of Life," by John Cotton. "Emerson: Bicentennial Essays," edited by Ronald A. Bosco and Joel Myerson addresses the range of works produced by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
