The abnormally MDEGs were identified by using R software. We used the clusterProfiler package for the functional and pathway enrichment analysis. The String database was used to build the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network and visualize it in Cytoscape. MCODE was employed in the module analysis. Additionally, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were employed to validate results. Lastly, we used cBioPortal software to examine the hub genetic alterations.Results: We identified 162 hypermethylated, down-regulated genes and 190 hypomethylated, up-regulated genes. Up-regulated genes with low methylation were enriched in biological processes, such as keratinocyte proliferation, and calcium homeostasis. Pathway analysis was enriched in the AMPK and PI3K-Akt signaling pathways. The PPI network identified PTK2, VWF, and ITGA2 as hypomethylated, high-expressing hub genes. Down-regulated genes with high methylation were related to responses to peptide hormones and estradiol, multi-multicellular organism process. Pathway analysis indicated enrichment in camp, oxytocin signaling pathways. The PPI network identified CFTR, ESR1, and CXCL12 as hypermethylated, low-expressing hub genes. Upon verification in TCGA databases, we found that the expression and methylation statuses of the hub genes changed significantly, and it was consistent with our results.Conclusion: The novel abnormally MDEGs and pathways in HCC were identified. These results helped us further understand the molecular mechanisms underlying HCC invasion, metastasis, and development. This study aimed to explore the efficacy of mindfulness training in improving stress-related outcomes in family caregivers of people with dementia using a meta-analytic review. We searched randomized controlled trials (RCT) through April 2017 from five electronic databases, and assessed the risk of bias using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. Seven RCTs were included in our review. Mindfulness interventions showed significant effects of improvement in depression (standardized mean difference: -0.58, [95% CI: -0.79 to -0.37]), perceived stress (-0.33, [-0.57 to -0.10]), and mental health-related quality of life (0.38 [0.14 to 0.63]) at 8 weeks post-treatment. Pooled evidence did not show a significant advantage of mindfulness training compared with control conditions in the alleviation of caregiver burden or anxiety. Future large-scale and rigorously designed trials are needed to confirm our findings. Clinicians may consider the mindfulness program as a promising alternative to conventional interventions. There were 314 ADR cases among 118,208 patients receiving enhanced CT or MRI examinations. The frequency of moderate/severe ADRs defined by Chinese Society of Radiology (ie, severe vomiting, systematic urticaria, facial swelling, dyspnea, vasovagal reaction, laryngeal edema, seizure, trembling, convulsions, unconsciousness, shock, death, and other unexpected adverse reactions) was rare (0.0431%), whereas the mild ADRs were uncommon (0.2225%) and accounted for 83.76% of ADRs. Rising instances of flash droughts are contributing to notable variability in soil moisture across terrestrial ecosystems. These phenomena challenge urban ecosystem services, yet the reaction of soil ecological functions (SEFs) to such events is poorly understood. This study investigates the responses of SEFs (about nutrient metabolism capacity and potential) and the microbiome under two specific scenarios: a flooding-drought sequence and a direct drought condition. Using quantitative microbial element cycling analysis, high-throughput sequencing, and enzyme activity measurements, we found that unlike in forests, the microbial composition in urban soils remained unchanged during flash drought conditions. However, SEFs were affected in both settings. Correlation analysis and Mantel test showed that forest soils exhibited more complex interactions among soil moisture, properties, and microbial communities. Positive linear correlation revealed that bacteria were the sole drivers of SEFs. Interestingly, while multi-threshold results suggested bacterial α diversity impeded the maximization of SEFs in urban soils, fungi and protists had a beneficial impact. Cross-domain network of urban soils had higher number of nodes and edges, but lower average degree and robustness than forest soils. Mantel test revealed that fungi and protist had significant correlations with bacterial composition in forest soils, but not in urban soils. In the urban network, the degree and eigenvector centrality of bacterial, fungal and protistan ASVs were significantly lower compared to those in the forest. These results suggest that the lower robustness of the microbial network in urban soils is attributed to limited interactions among fungi, consumer protists, and bacteria, contributing to the failure of microbial-driven ecological functions. Lipid droplets (LDs) serve as crucial hubs for lipid trafficking and metabolic regulation through their numerous interactions with various organelles. While the interplay between LDs and the Golgi apparatus has been recognized, their roles and underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we reveal the role of Ras-related protein Rab-2A (Rab2A) in mediating LD-Golgi interactions, thereby contributing to very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) lipidation and secretion in hepatocytes. Mechanistically, our findings identify a selective interaction between Golgi-localized Rab2A and 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13) protein residing on LDs. This complex facilitates dynamic organelle communication between the Golgi apparatus and LDs, thus contributing to lipid transfer from LDs to the Golgi apparatus for VLDL2 lipidation and secretion. Attenuation of Rab2A activity via AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) suppresses the Rab2A-HSD17B13 complex formation, impairing LD-Golgi interactions and subsequent VLDL secretion. Furthermore, genetic inhibition of Rab2A and HSD17B13 in the liver reduces the serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), a noninvasive neuroregulatory technique used to treat neurodegenerative diseases, holds promise for spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) treatment, although its efficacy and mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to observe the short-term impact of cerebellar rTMS on motor function in SCA3 patients and utilize resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) to assess potential therapeutic mechanisms. Twenty-two SCA3 patients were randomly assigned to receive actual rTMS (AC group, n = 11, three men and eight women; age 32-55 years) or sham rTMS (SH group, n = 11, three men and eight women; age 26-58 years). Both groups underwent cerebellar rTMS or sham rTMS daily for 15 days. The primary outcome measured was the ICARS scores and parameters for regional brain activity. Compared to baseline, ICARS scores decreased more significantly in the AC group than in the SH group after the 15-day intervention. Imaging indicators revealed increased Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuation (ALFF) values in the posterior cerebellar lobe and cerebellar tonsil following AC stimulation. This study suggests that rTMS enhances motor functions in SCA3 patients by modulating the excitability of specific brain regions and associated pathways, reinforcing the potential clinical utility of rTMS in SCA3 treatment. Urban greenspace soils can store equal amount of carbon, or even more, compared to agricultural and forest soils, and play an important role in carbon sequestration. Despite its importance, the patterns and drivers of the priming effect-a key and complex process in soil organic matter decomposition-in urban ecosystems remain poorly understood. Here, we sampled soils in urban lawns, suburban lawns, and forests, and conducted a 30-day microcosm incubation with 13 C-labelled glucose and nitrogen additions to explore whether and how the intensity of soil organic matter priming effect differs between urbanized and forest ecosystems. We found that lawn soils in urban (7.01 mg C g -1 SOC) and suburban (5.86) areas had a significantly higher intensity of priming effect than forest soils (1.34), with further enhancement observed in urban lawn soils through simulated nitrogen deposition. Moreover, the alpha diversity of soil bacteria and fungi was found to play a crucial role in modulating the priming effect, exhibiting a positive correlation with its intensity. Traditionally, antifungal resistance (AFR) has received much less attention compared with bacterial resistance to antibiotics. However, global changes, pandemics, and emerging new fungal infections have highlighted global health consequences of AFR. The recent report of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified fungal priority pathogens, and recognised AFR among the greatest global health threats. This is particularly important given the significant increase in fungal infections linked to climate change and pandemics. Environmental factors play critical roles in AFR and fungal infections, as many clinically relevant fungal pathogens and AFR originate from the environment (mainly soil). In addition, the environment serves as a potential rich source for the discovery of new antifungal agents, including mycoviruses and bacterial probiotics, which hold promise for effective therapies. In this article, we summarise the environmental pathways of AFR development and spread among high priority fungal pathogens, and propose potential mechanisms of AFR development and spread. We identify a research priority list to address key knowledge gaps in our understanding of environmental AFR. Introduction: The nursing management of intracranial hypertension in adult patients with severe brain injury is crucial for maintaining the stability of intracranial pressure, which ultimately improves patient outcomes., Objectives: This project aimed to implement evidence-based practices for the nursing management of intracranial hypertension in adult patients with severe brain injury., Methods: This evidence implementation project was conducted in a neurosurgery intensive care unit in a large tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, China. The project was guided by the JBI Evidence Implementation Framework, which is an audit and feedback model with seven stages. The Ottawa Model of Research Use was used to identify barriers and facilitators to best practices and to develop improvement strategies., Results: Thirty-three nurses and 50 patients with severe brain injury participated in the baseline and follow-up audits. After project implementation, follow-up audits revealed significantly improved compliance with best practices compared with baseline. Nurses' awareness of best practices increased (41% to 96%); nursing assessment, monitoring, and interventions related to intracranial hypertension rose significantly (from 82%, 75%, and 59% to 98%, 84%, and 87%, respectively); and patients' optic nerve sheath diameter was notably lower (6.002±0.677 mm to 5.698±0.730 mm)., Conclusions: The systematic integration of consistent training and education, together with the refinement of care processes and the creation of relevant tools, led to a significant improvement in awareness and adherence to best practices. The economic burden of brucellosis care on patients can lead to significant financial strain, despite partial coverage by medical insurance. However, there is limited research on the out-of-pocket costs faced by brucellosis patients. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the costs and out-of-pocket expenses of brucellosis care, specifically examining the varying socioeconomic status of patients in Xinjiang, China. We collected cost and demographic data from 563 respondents and their hospital bills and employed latent variable analysis to assess socioeconomic status. The majority of patients belonged to the middle and lower socioeconomic status categories (85.97%), and they were primarily farmers and herders (82.77%). The median direct cost per brucellosis episode was USD 688.65, with out-of-pocket expenses amounting to USD 391.44. These costs exceeded both the 2020 Xinjiang and national per capita health expenditures (USD 233.66 and USD 267.21, respectively). Notably, the overall medical reimbursement rate was 48.60%, and for outpatient costs, it was merely 12.82%. Despite higher out-of-pocket costs among high socioeconomic status patients, the percentage of income spent was higher (37.23%) for patients in the lower socioeconomic status group compared to other groups (16.25% and 12.96%). In conclusion, our findings highlight that brucellosis patients are predominantly from the middle and lower socioeconomic status, with high out-of-pocket expenses placing them under significant financial pressure. Moreover, there is notable inequity in economic consequences across different socioeconomic status groups. Global patterns in soil microbiomes are driven by non-linear environmental thresholds. Fertilization is known to shape the soil microbiome of terrestrial ecosystems worldwide. Yet, whether fertilization influences global thresholds in soil microbiomes remains virtually unknown. Here, utilizing optimized machine learning models with Shapley additive explanations on a dataset of 10,907 soil samples from 24 countries, we discovered that the microbial community response to fertilization is highly dependent on environmental contexts. Furthermore, the interactions among nitrogen (N) addition, pH, and mean annual temperature contribute to non-linear patterns in soil bacterial diversity. Specifically, we observed positive responses within a soil pH range of 5.2-6.6, with the influence of higher temperature (>15°C) on bacterial diversity being positive within this pH range but reversed in more acidic or alkaline soils. Additionally, we revealed the threshold effect of soil organic carbon and total nitrogen, demonstrating how temperature and N addition amount interacted with microbial communities within specific edaphic concentration ranges. Natural environments play a crucial role in transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Development of methods to manage antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in natural environments are usually limited to the laboratory or field scale, partially due to the complex dynamics of transmission between different environmental compartments. Here, we conducted a nine-year longitudinal profiling of ARGs at a watershed scale, and provide evidence that restrictions on livestock farms near water bodies significantly reduced riverine ARG abundance. Substantial reductions were revealed in the relative abundance of genes conferring resistance to aminoglycosides (42%), MLSB (36%), multidrug (55%), tetracyclines (53%), and other gene categories (59%). Additionally, improvements in water quality were observed, with distinct changes in concentrations of dissolved reactive phosphorus, ammonium, nitrite, pH, and dissolved oxygen. Antibiotic residues and other pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) maintain at a similarly low level. Microbial source tracking demonstrates a significant decrease in swine fecal indicators, while human fecal pollution remains unchanged. These results suggest that the reduction in ARGs was due to a substantial reduction in input of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes from animal excreta. Environmental estrogens (EEs) are found extensively in natural waters and negatively affect fish reproduction. Research on the reproductive toxicity of EEs mixtures in fish at environmentally relevant concentrations is scarce. In this study, adult male zebrafish were exposed for 60 days to EES (a mixture of EEs), EE2-low (5.55 ng/L, with an estrogenic potency equal to EES), and EE2-high (11.1 ng/L). After exposure, the expression levels of vtg1, vtg3, and esr1 in the livers in EES-treated fish remained unaltered, whereas they were significantly increased in EE2-treated fish. Both EE2-high and EES exposures notably reduced the gonad somatic index and sperm count. A disrupted spermatogenesis was also observed in the testes of EE2-high- and EES-exposed fish, along with an alteration in the expression of genes associated with spermatogonial proliferation (pcna, nanog), cell cycle transition (cyclinb1, cyclind1), and meiosis (aldh1a2, cyp26a1, sycp3). Both EE2 and EES significantly lowered plasma 11-ketotestosterone levels in males, likely by inhibiting the expression level of genes for its synthesis (scc, cyp17a1 and cyp11b2), and increased 17β-estradiol (E2) levels, possibly through upregulating the expression of cyp19a1a. A significant increase in tnfrsf1a expression and the tnfrsf1a/tnfrsf1b ratio in EE2-high and EES-treated males also suggests increased apoptosis via the extrinsic pathway. Further investigation showed that both EE2-high and EES diminished the sexual behavior of male fish, accompanied with reduced E2 levels in the brain and the expression of genes in the kisspeptin/gonadotropin-releasing hormone system. Interestingly, the sexual behavior of unexposed females paired with treated males was also reduced, indicating a synergistic effect. Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) are crucial for enhancing phosphorus bioavailability and regulating phosphorus transformation processes. However, the in situ phosphorus-solubilizing activity and the link between phenotypes and genotypes for PSB remain unidentified. Here we employed single-cell Raman spectroscopy combined with heavy water to discern and quantify soil active PSB. Our results reveal that PSB abundance and in situ activity differed significantly between soil types and fertilization treatments. Inorganic fertilizer input was the key driver for active PSB distribution. Targeted single-cell sorting and metagenomic sequencing of active PSB uncovered several low-abundance genera that are easily overlooked within bulk soil microbiota. We elucidate the underlying functional genes and metabolic pathway, and the interplay between phosphorus and carbon cycling involved in high phosphorus solubilization activity. Our study provides a single-cell approach to exploring PSB from native environments, enabling the development of a microbial solution for the efficient agronomic use of phosphorus and mitigating the phosphorus crisis., (© 2024. Plastic pollution represents a critical threat to soil ecosystems and even humans, as plastics can serve as a habitat for breeding and refuging pathogenic microorganisms against stresses. However, evaluating the health risk of plastispheres is difficult due to the lack of risk factors and quantification model. Here, DNA sequencing, single-cell Raman-D 2 O labeling, and transformation assay were used to quantify key risk factors of plastisphere, including pathogen abundance, phenotypic resistance to various stresses (antibiotic and pesticide), and ability to acquire antibiotic resistance genes. A Bayesian network model was newly introduced to integrate these three factors and infer their causal relationships. Using this model, the risk of pathogen in the plastisphere is found to be nearly 3 magnitudes higher than that in free-living state. Furthermore, this model exhibits robustness for risk prediction, even in the absence of one factor. Our framework offers a novel and practical approach to assessing the health risk of plastispheres, contributing to the management of plastic-related threats to human health.

Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1), as a vital base excision repair enzyme, is essential for maintaining genomic integrity and stability, and its abnormal expression is closely associated with malignant tumors. Herein, we constructed an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for detecting APE1 activity by combining nanoconfined ECL silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs) with X-shaped DNA recognizer-triggered cascade amplification. Specifically, the Ag NCs were prepared and confined in the glutaraldehyde-cross-linked chitosan hydrogel network using the one-pot method, resulting in a strong ECL response and exceptional stability in comparison with discrete Ag NCs. Furthermore, the self-assembled X-shaped DNA recognizers were designed for APE1 detection, which not only improved reaction kinetics due to the ordered arrangement of recognition sites but also achieved high sensitivity by utilizing the recognizer-triggered cascade amplification of strand displacement amplification (SDA) and DNAzyme catalysis. As expected, this biosensor achieved sensitive ECL detection of APE1 in the range of 1.0 × 10 -3 U·μL -1 to 1.0 × 10 -10 U·μL -1 with the detection limit of 2.21 × 10 -11 U·μL -1 , rendering it a desirable approach for biomarker detection.

Background: Monopolar spindle-binding protein 3B (MOB3B) functions as a signal transducer and altered MOB3B expression is associated with the development of human cancers., Aim: To investigate the role of MOB3B in colorectal cancer (CRC)., Methods: This study collected 102 CRC tissue samples for immunohistochemical detection of MOB3B expression for association with CRC prognosis. After overexpression and knockdown of MOB3B expression were induced in CRC cell lines, changes in cell viability, migration, invasion, and gene expression were assayed. Tumor cell autophagy was detected using transmission electron microscopy, while nude mouse xenograft experiments were performed to confirm the in-vitro results., Results: MOB3B expression was reduced in CRC vs normal tissues and loss of MOB3B expression was associated with poor CRC prognosis. Overexpression of MOB3B protein in vitro attenuated the cell viability as well as the migration and invasion capacities of CRC cells, whereas knockdown of MOB3B expression had the opposite effects in CRC cells. At the molecular level, microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 II/I expression was elevated, whereas the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)2, MMP9, sequestosome 1, and phosphorylated mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase (mTOR) was downregulated in MOB3B-overexpressing RKO cells. Background: Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are utilized for the management of hypertension and diabetes. Previous meta-analyses suggested that azilsartan medoxomil (AZL-M) improved blood pressure (BP) reduction, but there were no safety findings or suggestions for patients with hypertension or diabetes., Methods: We performed an efficacy and safety meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating AZL-M therapy for reducing BP in patients with hypertension. Patients with hypertension complicated by diabetes were analyzed. The relevant literature was searched in English and Chinese databases for RCTs involving AZL-M in hypertension. Efficacy variables included the change from baseline in the 24-h mean systolic/diastolic BP measured by ambulatory BP monitoring, the change from baseline in clinic systolic/diastolic BP, and responder rates. Safety variables included total adverse events (AEs), serious AEs, AEs leading to discontinuation, and AEs related to the study drug. The raw data from the included studies were utilized to calculate the odds ratio (OR) for dichotomous data and the mean difference (MD) for continuous data, accompanied by 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Statistical analysis was performed using R software., Results: A total of 11 RCTs met the inclusion criteria, representing 7,608 patients, 5 of whom had diabetes. Pooled analysis suggested a reduction in BP among patients randomized to 40 mg of AZL-M vs. control therapy [24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) (MD: -2.85 mmHg), clinic SBP (MD: -3.48 mmHg), and clinic diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (MD: -1.96 mmHg)] and for 80 mg of AZL-M vs. control therapy [24-h ABPM mean SBP (MD: -3.59 mmHg), 24-h ABPM mean DBP (MD: -2.62 mmHg), clinic SBP (MD: -4.42 mmHg), clinic DBP (MD: -3.09 mmHg), and responder rate (OR: 1.46)]. There was no difference in the reduction of risks, except for dizziness (OR: 1.56) in the 80-mg AZL-M group or urinary tract infection (OR: 1.82) in the 40-mg AZL-M group. Background: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a new type of extracorporeal respiratory and circulatory assistance device. It can drain venous blood out of the body and inject it into veins or arteries after being oxygenated by an oxygenator (membrane lung) to replace lung and heart functions in a short time. ECMO can provide tissue blood perfusion and gas exchange almost equivalent to cardiac output and extend the effective treatment time window for patients with acute circulatory failure to restore cardiopulmonary function., Case Summary: We report a case of an 81-year-old woman who underwent whole cerebral angiography, basilar artery thrombectomy and stent thrombectomy in the posterior artery of the left brain after implantation of ECMO. The patient was admitted to the hospital due to myocardial infarction. Considering that the cause of the patient's disturbance of consciousness was unknown and cerebrovascular accident could not be ruled out after the implantation of ECMO, the department of Radioactive Intervention performed cerebral angiography. And the result of the angiography indicated vascular occlusion. This study represents the first documentation of the coexistence of complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) with Müllerian duct remnants (MDRs) in mainland China. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive review of the existing literature concerning CAIS with MDRs resulting from androgen receptor (AR) gene mutations. This study broadens the clinical spectrum of CAIS and offer novel insights for further exploration into Müllerian duct regression. A 14-year-old patient, initially raised as female, presented to the clinic with complaints of "primary amenorrhea." Physical examination revealed the following: armpit hair (Tanner stage 2), breast development (Tanner stage 4 with bilateral breast nodule diameter of 7 cm), sparse pubic hair (Tanner stage 3), clitoris measuring 0.8 cm × 0.4 cm, separate urethral and vaginal openings, and absence of palpable masses in the bilateral groin or labia majora. The external genital virilization score was 0 points. Serum follicle-stimulating hormone level was 13.43 IU/L, serum luteinizing hormone level was 31.24 IU/L, and serum testosterone level was 14.95 nmol/L. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) did not reveal a uterus or bilateral fallopian tubes, but nodules on both sides of the pelvic wall indicated cryptorchidism. The karyotype was 46,XY. Genetic testing identified a maternal-derived hemizygous variation c.2359C > T (p.Arg787*) in the AR gene. During abdominal exploration, dysplastic testicles and a dysplastic uterus were discovered. Histopathological analysis revealed the presence of fallopian tube-like structures adjacent to the testicles. The CAIS patient documented in this study exhibited concurrent MDRs, thus expanding the spectrum of clinical manifestations of AIS. A review of prior literature suggests that the incidence of CAIS combined with histologically MDRs is not uncommon. Rapid urbanization in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to place two-thirds of its population in concrete-dominated urban landscapes by 2050. While diverse architectural facades define the unique appearance of these urban systems. There remains a significant gap in our understanding of the composition, assembly, and ecological potential of microbial communities on building exteriors. Here, we examined bacterial and protistan communities on building surfaces along an urbanization gradient (urban, suburban and rural regions), investigating their spatial patterns and the driving factors behind their presence. A total of 55 bacterial and protist phyla were identified. The bacterial community was predominantly composed of Proteobacteria (33.7% to 67.5%). The protistan community exhibited a prevalence of Opisthokonta and Archaeplastida (17.5% to 82.1% and 1.8% to 61.2%, respectively). The composition and functionality of bacterial communities exhibited spatial patterns correlated with urbanization. In urban buildings, factors such as facade type, light exposure, and building height had comparatively less impact on bacterial composition compared to suburban and rural areas. The highest bacterial diversity and lowest Weighted Average Community Identity (WACI) were observed on suburban buildings, followed by rural buildings. In contrast, protists did not show spatial distribution characteristics related to facade type, light exposure, building height and urbanization level. The distinct spatial patterns of protists were primarily shaped by community diffusion and the bottom-up regulation exerted by bacterial communities. The phyllosphere, particularly the leaf surface of plants, harbors a diverse range of microbiomes that play a vital role in the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. However, our understanding of microbial successions and their impact on functional genes during plant community development is limited. In this study, considering core and satellite microbial taxa, we characterized the phyllosphere microbiome and functional genes in various microhabitats (i.e., leaf litter, moss and plant leaves) across the succession of a plant community in a low-altitude glacier foreland. Our findings indicate that phyllosphere microbiomes and associated ecosystem stability increase during the succession of the plant community. The abundance of core taxa increased with plant community succession and was primarily governed by deterministic processes. In contrast, satellite taxa abundance decreased during plant community succession and was mainly governed by stochastic processes. The abundance of microbial functional genes (such as C, N, and P hydrolysis and fixation) in plant leaves generally increased during the plant community succession. However, in leaf litter and moss leaves, only a subset of functional genes (e.g., C fixation and degradation, and P mineralization) showed a tendency to increase with plant community succession. Ultimately, the community of both core and satellite taxa collaboratively influenced the characteristics of phyllosphere nutrient-cycling genes, leading to the diverse profiles and fluctuating abundance of various functional genes during plant community succession. Much effort has been devoted to improving treatment efficiency for osteosarcoma (OS). However, most current approaches result in poor therapeutic responses, thus indicating the need for the development of other therapeutic options. This study developed a multifunctional nanoparticle, PDA-MOF-E-M, an aggregation of OS targeting, programmed death targeting, and near-infrared (NIR)-aided targeting. At the same time, a multifunctional nanoparticle that utilises Fe-MOFs to create a cellular iron-rich environment and erastin as a ferroptosis inducer while ensuring targeted delivery to OS cells through cell membrane encapsulation is presented. The combination of PDA-MOF-E-M and PTT increased intracellular ROS and LPO levels and induced ferroptosis-related protein expression. A PDA-based PTT combined with erastin showed significant synergistic therapeutic improvement in the anti-tumour efficiency of the nanoparticle in vitro and vivo. The multifunctional nanoparticle efficiently prevents the osteoclasia progression of OS xenograft bone tumors in vivo. The microbiome in the air-phyllosphere-soil continuum of urban greenspaces plays a crucial role in re-connecting urban populations with biodiverse environmental microbiomes. However, little is known about whether plant type affects the airborne microbiomes, as well as the extent to which soil and phyllosphere microbiomes contribute to airborne microbiomes. Here we collected soil, phyllosphere and airborne microbes with different plant types (broadleaf tree, conifer tree, and grass) in urban parks. Despite the significant impacts of plant type on soil and phyllosphere microbiomes, plant type had no obvious effects on the diversity of airborne microbes but shaped airborne bacterial composition in urban greenspaces. Soil and phyllosphere microbiomes had a higher contribution to airborne bacteria in broadleaf trees (37.56%) compared to conifer trees (9.51%) and grasses (14.29%). Grass areas in urban greenspaces exhibited a greater proportion of potential pathogens compared to the tree areas. The abundance of bacterial pathogens in phyllosphere was significantly higher in grasses compared to broadleaf and conifer trees. Fungal plant pathogens threaten crop production and sustainable agricultural development. However, the environmental factors driving their diversity and nationwide biogeographic model remain elusive, impacting our capacity to predict their changes under future climate scenarios. Here, we analyzed potential fungal plant pathogens from 563 samples collected from 57 agricultural fields across China. Over 28.0% of fungal taxa in the phyllosphere were identified as potential plant pathogens, compared to 22.3% in the rhizosphere. Dominant fungal plant pathogen groups were Cladosporium (in the phyllosphere) and Fusarium (in the rhizosphere), with higher diversity observed in the phyllosphere than in rhizosphere soil. Deterministic processes played an important role in shaping the potential fungal plant pathogen community assembly in both habitats. Mean annual precipitation and temperature were the most important factor influencing phyllosphere fungal plant pathogen richness. Significantly negative relationships were found between fungal pathogen diversity and sorghum yield. Notably, compared to the rhizosphere, the phyllosphere fungal plant pathogen diversity played a more crucial role in sorghum yield. Background: Brucellosis is a severe zoonotic disease that is often overlooked, particularly in impoverished countries. Timely identification of focal complications in brucellosis is crucial for improving treatment outcomes. However, there is currently a lack of established indicators or biomarkers for diagnosing these complications. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate potential warning signs of focal complications in human brucellosis, with the goal of providing practical parameters for clinicians to aid in the diagnosis and management of patients., Methods: A multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted in China from December 2019 to August 2021. The study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and complications of patients with brucellosis using a questionnaire survey and medical record system. The presence of warning signs for complications was assessed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression models. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the area under the curve (AUC) were used for variable screening and model evaluation., Results: A total of 880 participants diagnosed with human brucellosis were enrolled. The median age of the patients was 50 years [interquartile range (IQR): 41.5-58.0], and 54.8% had complications. The most common organ system affected by complications was the osteoarticular system (43.1%), with peripheral arthritis (30.0%), spondylitis (16.6%), paravertebral abscess (5.0%), and sacroiliitis (2.7%) being the most prevalent. Complications in other organ systems included the genitourinary system (4.7%), respiratory system (4.7%), and hematologic system (4.6%). Several factors were found to be associated with focal brucellosis. These factors included a long delay in diagnosis [odds ratio (OR) = 3.963, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.906-8.238 for > 90 days], the presence of underlying disease (OR = 1.675, 95% CI 1.176-2.384), arthralgia (OR = 3.197, 95% CI 1.986-5.148), eye bulging pain (OR = 3.482, 95% CI 1.349-8.988), C-reactive protein (CRP) > 10 mg/L (OR = 1.910, 95% CI 1.310-2.784) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) elevation (OR = 1.663, 95% CI 1.145-2.415). The optimal cutoff value in ROC analysis was > 5.4 mg/L for CRP (sensitivity 73.4% and specificity 51.9%) and > 25 mm/h for ESR (sensitivity 47.9% and specificity 71.1%)., Conclusions: More than 50% of patients with brucellosis experienced complications. Factors such as diagnostic delay, underlying disease, arthralgia, eye pain, and elevated levels of CRP and ESR were identified as significant markers for the development of complications. Antibiotic resistance in plant-associated microbiomes poses significant risks for agricultural ecosystems and human health. Although accumulating evidence suggests a role for plant genotypes in shaping their microbiome, almost nothing is known about how the changes of plant genetic information affect the co-evolved plant microbiome carrying antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Here, we selected 16 wheat cultivars and experimentally explored the impact of host genetic variation on phyllosphere microbiome, ARGs, and metabolites. Our results demonstrated that host genetic variation significantly influenced the phyllosphere resistomes. Wheat genotypes exhibiting high phyllosphere ARGs were linked to elevated Pseudomonas populations, along with increased abundances of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation genes. Further analysis of 350 Pseudomonas spp. genomes from diverse habitats at a global scale revealed that nearly all strains possess multiple ARGs, virulence factor genes (VFGs), and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) on their genomes, albeit with lower nucleotide diversity compared to other species. These findings suggested that the proliferation of Pseudomonas spp. in the phyllosphere significantly contributed to antibiotic resistance. We further observed direct links between the upregulated leaf metabolite DIMBOA-Glc, Pseudomonas spp., and enrichment of phyllosphere ARGs, which were corroborated by microcosm experiments demonstrating that DIMBOA-Glc significantly enhanced the relative abundance of Pseudomonas spp. Overall, alterations in leaf metabolites resulting from genetic variation throughout plant evolution may drive the development of highly specialized microbial communities capable of enriching phyllosphere ARGs. Background: Intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-AW) is a prevalent and severe issue among ICU patients. Resistance training and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) intervention have demonstrated the potential to enhance muscle function in patients with sarcopenia and in older adults. The purpose of this study was to determine whether resistance training and/or HMB administration would improve physical function, muscle strength, and quality of life in medical ICU patients., Methods: In this multicentre, four-arm, single-blind randomised control trial, a total of 112 adult patients with internal medical diagnoses admitted to the ICU were enrolled. These participants were then randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups: the resistance training group received protocol-based multilevel resistance exercise, the HMB group received 3 g/day of HMBCa, combination group and control groups received standard care, from the ICU to the general ward until discharge. The primary outcomes assessed at discharge included six-minute walking distance (6MWD) and short physical performance battery (SPPB). Secondary outcomes measured included muscle mass, MRC score, grip strength, and health reports quality of life at different time points. Data analysis was performed using a generalised linear mixed model, adhering to the principles of intention-to-treat analysis., Results: Resistance training and combination treatment groups exhibited significant increases in SPPB scores (3.848 and 2.832 points, respectively) compared to the control group and substantial improvements in 6WMD (99.768 and 88.577 m, respectively) (all with P < 0.01). However, no significant changes were observed in the HMB group. Muscle strength, as indicated by MRC and grip strength tests conducted at both ICU and hospital discharge, showed statistically significant improvements in the resistance training and combination groups (P < 0.05). This methodology enables the implementation of this venerable reaction in environmentally friendly conditions, obviating the need for a stoichiometric amount of metals. A broad range of synthetically useful β-hydroxy esters can be efficiently prepared in moderate to high yields using this protocol.

During the survey on freshwater hyphomycetes in Guangxi, Guizhou and Hainan Provinces, China, five fresh collections were encountered. Based on their morphology, these five isolates were identified as belonging to Hermatomyces , Kirschsteiniothelia , Paramonodictys , Pleopunctum and Sparticola . Multi-gene phylogenetic analyses were performed for each genus, which resulted in the identification of five new species, namely Hermatomyces hainanensis , Kirschsteiniothelia ramus , Paramonodictys globosa , Pleopunctum guizhouense , and Sparticola irregularis . Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the morphological characteristics of these new taxa were provided. Understanding how antibiotic resistance emerges and evolves in natural habitats is critical for predicting and mitigating antibiotic resistance in the context of global change. Bacteria have evolved antibiotic production as a strategy to fight competitors, predators and other stressors, but how predation pressure of their most important consumers (i.e., protists) affects soil antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) profiles is still poorly understood. To address this gap, we investigated responses of soil resistome to varying levels of protistan predation by inoculating low, medium and high concentrations of indigenous soil protist suspensions in soil microcosms. We found that an increase in protistan predation pressure was strongly associated with higher abundance and diversity of soil ARGs. High protist concentrations significantly enhanced the abundances of ARGs encoding multidrug (oprJ and ttgB genes) and tetracycline (tetV) efflux pump by 608%, 724% and 3052%, respectively. Additionally, we observed an increase in the abundance of numerous bacterial genera under high protistan pressure. Our findings provide empirical evidence that protistan predation significantly promotes antibiotic resistance in soil bacterial communities and advances our understanding of the biological driving forces behind the evolution and development of environmental antibiotic resistance., (© 2023. Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease that thickens the blood vessel walls and narrows the lumen. Venous thrombosis is a blood clot that forms in the body's deep veins or pulmonary arteries. However, the relationship between NDUFB11 and NDUFS3 and atherosclerosis and venous thrombosis is unclear. We employed data files that combined atherosclerosis and chronic stress groups. Subsequently, we conducted differential gene expression analysis (DEGs) and performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). We constructed and analyzed a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Further analyses included functional enrichment analysis, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), gene expression heatmaps, immune infiltration analysis, and mRNA analysis. By comparing our findings with the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD), we identified the most relevant diseases associated with the core genes. Additionally, we utilized TargetScan to screen for miRNAs regulating the central DEGs. To validate our results, we conducted Western Blot experiments at the cellular level. A total of 1747 DEGs were co-identified. According to the Gene Ontology (GO) analysis of differentially expressed genes, they were primarily enriched in mitochondrial gene expression, mitochondrial envelope, organelle membrane, and mitochondrial inner membrane categories. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that the target cells were mainly enriched in metabolic pathways, ribosomes, and histidine metabolism. The intersection of enriched terms from both GO and KEGG analyses showed significant enrichment in mitochondrial gene expression, mitochondrial envelope, organelle inner membrane, ribosomal structural constituents, histidine metabolism, and oxidative phosphorylation. Eight core genes were identified, including NDUFS5, UQCRQ, COX6C, COX7B, ATP5ME, NDUFS3, NDUFA3, and NDUFB11. The gene expression heatmap demonstrated that core genes (NDUFB11 and NDUFS3) were downregulated in atherosclerosis with venous thrombosis samples and upregulated in normal samples. CTD analysis revealed that the core genes NDUFB11 and NDUFS3 were associated with pain, arterial diseases, atherosclerosis, arteritis, venous thrombosis formation, and venous thromboembolism. We added Western Blot basic cell experiment for verification. Astragalus membranaceus is a traditional Chinese medicine derived from the roots of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge., which has the same medicinal and edible uses in China. It is also widely used in daily food, and its pharmacological effects mainly include antioxidant effects, vascular softening effects, etc. Currently, it is increasingly widely used in the prevention of hypertension, cerebral ischemia, and stroke in China. Formononetin and its glucopyranoside (ononin) are both important components of Astragalus membranaceus s and may play important roles in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This study conducted metabolic studies using formononectin and its glucopyranoside (ononin), including a combination of the in vitro metabolism of Formonetin using rat liver S9 and the in vivo metabolism of ononin administered orally to rats. Five metabolites (Sm2, 7, 9, 10, and 12) were obtained from the solution incubated with formononetin and rat hepatic S9 fraction using chromatographic methods. The structures of the five metabolites were elucidated as (Sm2)6,7,4'-trihydroxy-isoflavonoid; (Sm7)7,4'-dihydroxy-isoflavonoid; (Sm9)7,8,4'-trihydroxy-isoflavonoid; (Sm10)7,8,-dihydroxy-4'-methoxy-isoflavonoid; and (Sm12)6,7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxy- isoflavonoid on the basis of UV, NMR, and MS data. Totally, 14 metabolites were identified via HPLC-DAD-ESI-IT-TOF-MS n analysis, from which the formononetin was incubated with rat hepatic S9 fraction, and the main metabolic pathways were hydroxylation, demethylation, and glycosylation. Then, 21 metabolites were identified via HPLC-DAD-ESI-IT-TOF-MS n analysis from the urine samples from SD rats to which ononin was orally administered, and the main metabolic pathways were glucuronidation, hydroxylation, demethylation, and sulfonation. The main difference between the in vitro metabolism of formononetin and the in vivo metabolism of ononin is that ononin undergoes deglycemic transformation into Formonetin in the rat intestine, while Formonetin is absorbed into the bloodstream for metabolism, and the metabolic products also produce combined metabolites during in vivo metabolism. The six metabolites obtained from the aforementioned separation indicate the primary forms of formononetin metabolism, and due to their higher contents of similar isoflavone metabolites, they are considered the main active compounds that are responsible for pharmacological effects. To investigate the metabolites of the active ingredients of formononetin in the rat liver S9 system, network pharmacology was used to evaluate the cardiovascular disease (CVD) activities of the six primary metabolites that were structurally identified. Additionally, the macromolecular docking results of six main components and two core targets (HSP90AA1 and SRC) related to CVD showed that formononetin and its main metabolites, Sm10 and Sm12, may have roles in CVD treatment due to their strong binding activities with the HSP90AA1 receptor, while the Sm7 metabolite may have a role in CVD treatment due to its strong binding activity with the SRC receptor.

Rice paddy soil is a hotspot of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) due to the application of organic fertilizers. However, the temporal dynamics of ARGs in rice paddy soil and its flooded water during the growing season remain underexplored. In this study, a microcosm experiment was conducted to explore the ARG profiles in a long term (130 days) flooded two-phase manure-amended soil-water system. By using high-throughput quantitative PCR array, a total of 23-98 and 34-85 ARGs were detected in the soil and overlying water, respectively. Regression analysis exhibited significant negative correlations between ARG profile similarities and flooding duration, indicating that flooding significantly altered the resistome (P < 0.001). This finding was validated by the increased ARG abundance in the soil and the overlying water, for example, after 130 days flooding, the abundance of ARGs in CK soil was increased from 0.03 to 1.20 copies per 16S rRNA. The PCoA analysis further suggested pig manure application resulted in distinct ARG profiles in the soil-water continuum compared with those of the non-amended control (Adonis, P < 0.05). The Venn diagram showed that all ARGs detected in the pig manure were present in the treated soil. Twelve ARGs (e.g., sul1) were shared among the pig manure, manure-amended soil, and overlying water, indicating that certain manure- or soil-borne ARGs were readily dispersed from the soil to the overlying water. Moreover, the enhanced relationships between the ARGs and mobile genetic elements in pig manure applied soil-water continuum indicate that the application of organic matter could accelerate the emergence and dissemination of ARGs. These findings suggested that flooding represents a crucial pathway for dispersal of ARGs from the soil to the overlying water. Objective: Atherosclerosis is characterized by the formation of fibrofatty plaques in the intima of arteries, resulting in thickening of the vessel wall and narrowing of the lumen. Chronic stress refers to individuals in a state of long-term chronic stress. However, the relationship between NDUFB11 and NDUFS3 and atherosclerosis and chronic stress is unclear., Method: The atherosclerosis with chronic stress group data file was used. DEGs were screened and WGCNA was performed. Construction and analysis of PPI Network. Functional enrichment analysis, GSEA, gene expression heatmap, immune infiltration analysis and mRNA analysis were performed. CTD was used to find diseases most related to core genes. WB was performed. TargetScan was used to screen miRNAs of DEGs., Results: 1708 DEGs were identified. According to GO analysis, they were mainly enriched in catabolic processes, organic acid metabolism processes, carboxylic acid metabolism processes. KEGG analysis showed that they were mainly enriched in metabolic pathways, fatty acid metabolism, pentose phosphate pathway, glycolysis / gluconeogenesis, fructose and mannose metabolism. Gene expression heatmap showed that the core genes (NDUFB11, NDUFS3) were lowly expressed in samples of those with atherosclerosis accompanied by chronic stress and highly expressed in the normal samples. NDUFB11 and NDUFS3 were associated with necrosis, hyperplasia, inflammation, renal disease, weight loss, memory impairment, and cognitive impairment. WB showed that the expression level of NDUFS3 in atherosclerosis and chronic stress was lower than that in control group., Conclusions: NDUFB11 and NDUFS3 are underexpressed in atherosclerosis and chronic stress; the lower NDUFB11 and NDUFS3 levels, the worse the prognosis.

Background: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) consists of conventional TACE (cTACE) and drug-eluting beads TACE (DEB-TACE). The benefits of the 2 treatments remain controversial. We conduct this meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of the 2 methods for the patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma., Methods: In order to get a sound conclusion, we did thorough search all relevant studies with clear and stringent keyword criteria on the main databases. Objective tumor response rate, overall survival (OS) rate and adverse events were calculated and analyzed by RevMan 5.3 software. The random-effects or fixed-effects model was applied to pool the estimates according to Cochran Q test and I2 statistics., Results: Twenty-four studies involving 2987 patients were eligible. DEB-TACE significantly improved objective tumor response rate (OR) (risk ratio [RR] = 1.27, 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.08, 1.48]; P = .003). While as for 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 5-year OS rates, there were no evidences to indicate that DEB-TACE was significantly better than cTACE (RR = 1.05, 95% CI [0.99, 1.11]; P = .08), (RR = 1.02, 95% CI [0.93, 1.11]; P = .68), (RR = 0.92, 95% CI [0.77, 1.10]; P = .37), (RR = 0.92, 95% CI [0.47, 1.80]; P = .81), respectively. Adverse events rate (AE) was also similar in both groups (RR = 1.11, 95% CI [0.99,1.26]; P = .08)., Conclusion: This meta-analysis demonstrates that DEB-TACE is not superior than cTACE regarding to OS and AE. Objectives: To explore the potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of primary brain stem injury (PBSI) by using metabonomics method to observe the changes of metabolites in rats with PBSI caused death., Methods: PBSI, non-brain stem brain injury and decapitation rat models were established, and metabolic maps of brain stem were obtained by LC-MS metabonomics method and annotated to the HMDB database. Partial least square-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and random forest methods were used to screen potential biomarkers associated with PBSI diagnosis., Results: Eighty-six potential metabolic markers associated with PBSI were screened by PLS-DA. They were modeled and predicted by random forest algorithm with an accuracy rate of 83.3%. The 818 metabolic markers annotated to HMDB database were used for random forest modeling and prediction, and the accuracy rate was 88.9%. According to the importance in the identification of cause of death, the most important metabolic markers that were significantly up-regulated in PBSI group were HMDB0038126 (genipinic acid, GA), HMDB0013272 ( N -lauroylglycine), HMDB0005199 [( R )-salsolinol] and HMDB0013645 ( N , N -dimethylsphingosine)., Conclusions: GA, N -lauroylglycine, ( R )-salsolinol and N , N -dimethylsphingosine are expected to be important metabolite indicators in the diagnosis of PBSI caused death, thus providing clues for forensic medicine practice.

The widespread occurrence of tire tread particles (TPs) has aroused increasing concerns over their impacts. However, how they affect the soil fauna remains poorly understood. Here, based on systematically assessing the toxicity of TPs on soil model species Enchytraeus crypticus at environmentally relevant concentrations through both soil and food exposure routes, we reported that TPs affected gut microbiota, intestinal histopathology, and metabolites of the worms both through particulate- and leachate-induced effects, while TP leachates exerted stronger effects. The dominant role of TP leachates in TP toxicity was further explained by the findings that worms did not ingest TPs with a particle size of over 150 μm and actively avoided consuming TP particles. Moreover, by comparing the effects of different brands of TPs as well as new and aged TPs, we demonstrated that it was mainly TP leachates that resulted in the ubiquity of the disturbance in the worm's gut microbiota among different brands of TPs. Notably, the large variations in leachate compositions among different brands of TPs provided us a unique opportunity to identify the determinants of TP toxicity. These results provide novel insights into the toxicity of TPs to soil fauna and a reference for toxicity reduction of tires.

Protists occupy multiple trophic positions in soil food webs and significantly contribute to organic matter decomposition and biogeochemical cycling. Protists can ingest bacteria and fungi as main food sources while being subjected to predation of invertebrates, but our understanding of how bottom-up and top-down regulations structure protists in natural soil habitats is limited. Here, we disentangle the effects of trophic regulations to the diversity and structure of soil protists in natural settings across northern and eastern Australia. Bacterial and invertebrate diversity were identified as important drivers of the diversity of functional groups of protists. Moreover, the compositions of protistan taxonomic and functional groups were better predicted by bacteria and fungi, than by soil invertebrates. There were strong trophic interconnections between protists and bacteria in multiple organismic network analysis. Altogether, the study provided new evidence that, bottom-up control of bacteria played an important role in shaping the soil protist community structure, which can be derived from feeding preferences of protists on microbial prey, and their intimate relationships in soil functioning or environmental adaptation. Photoperiod has been well-documented to be involved in regulating many activities of animals. However, whether photoperiod takes part in mood control, such as fear response in fish and the underlying mode(s) of action remain unclear. In this study, adult zebrafish males and females (Danio rerio) were exposed to different photoperiods, Blank (12 h light: 12 h dark), Control (12 h light: 12 h dark), Short daylight (SD, 6 h light: 18 h dark) and Long daylight (LD, 18 h light: 6 h dark) for 28 days. After exposure, fear response of the fish was investigated using a novel tank diving test. After alarm substance administration, the onset to higher half, total duration in lower half and duration of freezing in SD-fish were significantly decreased, suggesting that short daylight photoperiod is capable of alleviating fear response in zebrafish. In contrast, comparing with the Control, LD didn't show significant effect on fear response of the fish. Further investigation revealed that SD increased the levels of melatonin (MT), serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) in the brain while decreased the plasma level of cortisol comparing to the Control. Moreover, the expressions of genes in MT, 5-HT and DA pathways and HPI axis were also altered consistently. Epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) is an infectious viral disease caused by epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus (EHDV) and EHDV frequently circulates in wild and domestic ruminants. Sporadic outbreaks of EHD have caused thousands of deaths and stillbirths on cattle farms. However, not much is known about the circulating status of EHDV in Guangdong, southern China. To estimate the seroprevalence of EHDV in Guangdong province, 2886 cattle serum samples were collected from 2013 to 2017 and tested for antibodies against EHDV using a competitive ELISA. The overall seroprevalence of EHDV reached 57.87% and was highest in autumn (75.34%). A subset of positive samples were serotyped by a serum neutralization test, showing that EHDV serotypes 1 and 5-8 were circulating in Guangdong. In addition, EHDV prevalence always peaked in autumn, while eastern Guangdong had the highest EHDV seropositivity over the five-year period, displaying apparent temporal-spatial distribution of EHDV prevalence. A binary logistic model analysis indicated a significant association between cattle with BTV infections and seroprevalence of EHDV (OR = 1.70, p < 0.001). The co-infection of different serotypes of EHDV and BTV raises a high risk of potential genomic reassortment and is likely to pose a significant threat to cattle, thus urging more surveillance to monitor their circulating dynamics in China.
