Abstract

Axionlike Particles (ALPs) can be produced in the Sun and is a viable candidate to the Cosmological Dark Matter. It can decay to two photons or interact with matter via Inverse Primakoff (IP) scattering. We identify inelastic channels to the IP-processes due to atomic excitation and ionization. Their cross sections are derived with full electromagnetic fields of atomic charge and current densities, and computed by well-benchmarked atomic many-body methods. Limits on ALP couplings with the photons are derived. New parameter space of ALP masses between 1~eV to 1~MeV not accessible to previous laboratory experiments is probed and excluded. 10. The safety of tranexamic acid administration in total knee arthroplasty: a population‐based study from Taiwan.

Abstract

Summary: Tranexamic acid is an effective treatment to reduce blood loss. We performed a retrospective observational study to evaluate safety in unilateral total knee arthroplasty. We utilised Taiwan's national health insurance database to identify relevant patients and to retrieve information on peri‐operative blood transfusions and tranexamic acid administration within 60 days of follow‐up. We examined changes in the rate of transfusions and adverse events with respect to tranexamic acid administration using logistic regression. We observed a total of 226,719 knee arthroplasty cases during 2010–2019. Transfusion and tranexamic acid administration rates were 38.9% (88,258) and 42.9% (97,237), respectively. Tranexamic acid was associated with a 50% decrease in blood transfusions (RR: 0.50, 95%CI: 0.48–0.51). After propensity‐score matching, tranexamic acid was not associated with pulmonary embolism; deep vein thromboembolism; artery vein thromboembolism; acute myocardial infarction; ischaemic stroke; or in‐hospital mortality, but was significantly associated with acute kidney injury. Patients with existing chronic kidney disease suffered a high absolute risk of kidney injury irrespective of tranexamic acid administration (832 per 10,000, 95%CI 797–869). Tranexamic acid was also associated with surgical site infection. There was strong interaction between blood transfusion; tranexamic aid administration; and development of surgical site infection. In conclusion, tranexamic acid use was associated with decreased blood transfusion and was not associated with thromboembolic events. However, careful consideration is required before use in patients with pre‐existing renal disease. Further, our observed interaction between patients given tranexamic acid who subsequently require transfusion requires careful consideration with respect to enhanced prophylaxis against surgical site infection. Abstract

"Desalted water" feedwater oxygen treatment dexterously combines the characteristics of water vapor loss in normal operation of unit and the natural saturation of dissolved oxygen in make-up water. It's a new way to implement oxygenated treatment of boiler feedwater, which is more environmentally friendly and economical. Compared to the conventional oxygen bottles or air oxygen methods, the passivation protection mechanism of the heating surface has no difference in essence, but it's further improved in the aspects of simple operation, project investment and cost, and reduce the use of dangerous chemical sources. A 350 MW supercritical unit applied this technology in China, after nearly 2 y operation, the cleanliness of the water vapor system and the stability control of dissolved oxygen has achieved successful results. According to operation statistics, the new technology has saved more than 2 million RMB of economic cost for the power plant, and gradually applied in Henan, Guizhou, Hubei, Inner Mongolia and other regions. Abstract

Relativistic millicharged particles ($\chi_q$) have been proposed in various extensions to the Standard Model of particle physics. We consider the scenarios where they are produced at nuclear reactor core and via interactions of cosmic-rays with the earth's atmosphere. Millicharged particles could also be candidates for dark matter, and become relativistic through acceleration by supernova explosion shock waves. The atomic ionization cross section of $\chi_q$ with matter are derived with the equivalent photon approximation. Smoking-gun signatures with significant enhancement in the differential cross section are identified. New limits on the mass and charge of $\chi_q$ are derived, using data taken with a point-contact germanium detector with 500g mass functioning at an energy threshold of 300~eV at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures
