With the current over-exploitation of terrestrial resources, multi-dimensional in-depth utilization of aquatic resources has attracted widespread attention. Blue foods including marine animals and algae supply nutrients to 3.2 billion people around the world. Polysaccharides are an important class of nutritional components in “blue foods”, and have various biological activities such as antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergic functions. The exertion of these physiological functions is closely related to their immunomodulatory activities. Therefore, this article reviews recent progress on the classification, composition and immunomodulatory activities of polysaccharides in blue foods with a focus on the regulatory effects of polysaccharides in marine mollusks and seaweeds on innate/adaptive immune responses, the antitumor effects of pro-inflammatory polysaccharides, and their role in immune adjuvants, and the role of anti-inflammatory polysaccharides in autoimmune diseases and inflammation in an effort to enrich the understanding of the different immune effects of marine polysaccharides and to provide theoretical support for the development of immunomodulatory functional foods based on polysaccharides from blue foods.

Objectives: To investigate the role of periostin (POSTN) and the transforming growth factor β (TGF‐β) pathway in the formation of laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) scar fibrosis and to explore the specific signaling mechanism of POSTN‐regulated TGF‐β pathway in tracheal fibroblasts. Methods: Bioinformatics analysis was performed on scar data sets from the GEO database to preliminarily analyze the involvement of POSTN and TGF‐β pathways in fibrosis diseases. Expression of POSTN and TGF‐β pathway‐related molecules was analyzed in LTS scar tissue at the mRNA and protein levels. The effect of POSTN on the biological behavior of tracheal fibroblasts was studied using plasmid DNA overexpression and siRNA silencing techniques to regulate POSTN expression and observe the activation of TGF‐β1 and the regulation of cell proliferation and migration via the TGF‐β/RHOA pathway. Results: The bioinformatics analysis revealed that POSTN and the TGF‐β pathway are significantly involved in fibrosis diseases. High expression of POSTN and TGF‐β/RHOA pathway‐related molecules (TGFβ1, RHOA, CTGF, and COL1) was observed in LTS tissue at both mRNA and protein levels. In tracheal fibroblasts, overexpression or silencing of POSTN led to the activation of TGF‐β1 and regulation of cell proliferation and migration through the TGF‐β/RHOA pathway. Conclusion: POSTN is a key molecule in scar formation in LTS, and it regulates the TGF‐β/RHOA pathway to mediate the formation of cicatricial LTS by acting on TGF‐β1. This study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying LTS and suggests potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of this condition. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the domestic patent application and international technology innovation in an open economy. Using the panel data of Asia-Pacific countries, this paper empirically analyzes the effect of economic openness level on international technological innovation and the moderating mechanism of the domestic patent application on them. The results show that the promotion effect of economic openness level on international technological innovation is different in countries with different income levels. With the increase of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the domestic patent application displays a promotion effect on Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application. Due to the improvement of intellectual property protection in middle-high-income countries, more and more foreign investors are attracted to invest in those countries and then learn from the new technologies brought by foreign capital. The technology spillover effect of FDI is more obvious in middle-high-income countries. With the increase of Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI), the domestic patent application can promote PCT application in high-income and middle-high-income countries. But there is no evidence that domestic patent application positively or negatively moderates the relationship between OFDI and international technological innovation in middle-low-income countries. The open interconnection and sharing characteristics of innovation-oriented enterprises aggravate the potential detrimental effects of intellectual property risks, while the proliferation of uncertainty factors perpetually amplifies the ripples of these risks. This study employed the grounded theory method, complemented by expert interviews, case analyses of intellectual property risk incidents, examination of intellectual property-related laws and regulations, as well as other relevant materials. It gathered comprehensive risk information and conducted an in-depth exploration of the underlying factors that contribute to intellectual property risks in enterprises. These factors encompassed risks associated with intellectual property dispute feedback, intellectual property competition, open innovation, intellectual property legal aspects, and environmental considerations. An index system for risk factors is established based on the comprehensive information collected. Furthermore, a system flow diagram depicting the mechanism of risk formation is developed using the system dynamics model. The study delves into the causal relationships among all risk factors and examines their impact on the overall intellectual property risk system within the enterprise. By simulating the dynamic evolution trend of intellectual property risk over time, the research reveals insights that can assist innovation-oriented enterprises operating in open environments in optimising their intellectual property risk management strategies. Phosphorus nutrition has been known for a long time to influence floral transition in plants, but the underlying mechanism is unclear. Arabidopsis phosphate transporter PHOSPHATE1 (PHO1) plays a critical role in phosphate translocation from roots to shoots, but whether and how it regulates floral transition is unknown. Here, we show that knockout mutation of PHO1 delays flowering under both long- and short-day conditions. The late flowering of pho1 mutants can be partially rescued by Pi supplementation in rosettes or shoot apices. Grafting assay indicates that the late flowering of pho1 mutants is a result of impaired phosphate translocation from roots to shoots. Knockout mutation of SPX1 and SPX2 , two negative regulators of the phosphate starvation response, partially rescues the late flowering of pho1 mutants. PHO1 is epistatic to PHO2, a negative regulator of PHO1, in flowering time regulation. Loss of PHO1 represses the expression of some floral activators, including FT encoding florigen, and induces the expression of some floral repressors in shoots. Genetic analyses indicate that at least jasmonic acid signaling is partially responsible for the late flowering of pho1 mutants. In addition, we find that rice PHO1;2 , the homolog of PHO1 , plays a similar role in floral transition. These results suggest that PHO1 integrates phosphorus nutrition and flowering time, and could be used as a potential target in modulating phosphorus nutrition-mediated flowering time in plants. Aims/Background Artificial intelligence technology has attained rapid development in recent years. The integration of artificial intelligence applications into pressure reduction mattresses, giving rise to artificial intelligence-powered pressure reduction mattresses, is expected to provide personalised intelligent pressure reduction solutions, through automatic user's data-based adjustment of the patient's local pressure condition to prevent pressure injury. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence-powered smart decompression in the prevention of postoperative medium- and high-risk pressure injury in middle-aged and elderly patients. Methods A total of 400 middle-aged and elderly patients admitted to our hospital from June 2021 to December 2023 were selected as study subjects. Patients were categorised into observation and control groups according to the medical record system. General demographic data of the patients were collected. The propensity score matching method was used to balance the baseline data of the two groups of patients. The incidence, severity, complications and sleep quality in the matched study subjects were also compared. Results After matching, there were 96 patients in the two groups, and the differences in baseline data between the two groups were not statistically significant. Pressure injury and the total incidence of complications in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.05). Before treatment, there was no difference in the scores of all aspects of the Richards Campbell Sleep Questionnaire between the two groups (p > 0.05). After treatment, the scores of all aspects of Richards Campbell Sleep Questionnaire in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion The artificial intelligence-powered smart decompression mattress can significantly prevent moderate- and high-risk pressure injury, effectively reducing the incidence of pressure injury and complications in postoperative long-term bedridden patients, alleviating the severity of pressure injury, relieving the pressure on various parts, and improving the sleep quality of patients. Agroforestry management has immense potential in enhancing forest carbon sequestration and mitigating climate change. Yet the impact and response mechanism of compound fertilization rates on carbon sinks in agroforestry systems remain ambiguous. This study aims to elucidate the impact of different compound fertilizer rates on soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, vegetation and soil organic carbon (SOC) sinks, and to illustrate the differences in agroforestry systems' carbon sinks through a one-year positioning test across 12 plots, applying different compound fertilizer application rates (0 (CK), 400 (A1), 800 (A2), and 1600 (A3) kg ha−1). The study demonstrated that, after fertilization, the total GHG emissions of A1 decreased by 4.41%, whereas A2 and A3 increased their total GHG emissions by 17.13% and 72.23%, respectively. The vegetation carbon sequestration of A1, A2, and A3 increased by 18.04%, 26.75%, and 28.65%, respectively, and the soil organic carbon sequestration rose by 32.57%, 42.27% and 43.29%, respectively. To sum up, in contrast with CK, the ecosystem carbon sequestration climbed by 54.41%, 51.67%, and 0.90%, respectively. Our study suggests that rational fertilization can improve the carbon sink of the ecosystem and effectively ameliorate climate change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
