AbstractThis paper investigates the free vibration of spinning stepped functionally graded material (FGM) circular cylindrical shells with general boundary conditions in a thermal environment. The artificial spring is implemented to simulate the general boundary constraints. Temperature-dependent material properties change constantly along the thickness direction. The Donnell-Mushtari shell theory is applied to derive the energy functions of thin stepped circular cylindrical shells, where the effect of centrifugal force and Coriolis force is taken into account. The modified Fourier-Ritz method is utilized to derive the frequency equations of the spinning stepped FGM circular cylindrical shells. The influences of spring stiffness, power-law index, and temperature on the traveling wave frequencies are investigated. The influence of configuration on the forward wave frequency and critical speed of three stepped shells, including the one-end thickened, the two-end thickened, and the middle-thickened stepped shells, is discussed. The production of excess free zinc ions (Zn2+) in cells has been identified as an important cause of cell injury or apoptosis after ischemia reperfusion. Thus, developing a nanosystem with multiple therapeutic functions to significantly eliminate multiple cell injury factors is of great interest. Here, a super-assembled nanosystem consisting of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) surface-modified mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN) encapsulating 2-methylimidazole (2MI) and a Zn2+ probe (PZn) was fabricated. The 2MI-P@MSN nanoassemblies showed a "turn-on" fluorescence signal at 476 nm toward zinc ions due to the presence of PZn. Besides, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) could be assembled on the site intracellularly after 2MI chelating with free zinc ions. The experimental results revealed that 2MI-P@MSN exhibited excellent biocompatibility and non-cytotoxicity, and was able to provide satisfactory protection to OGD/R-treated cells based on zinc ion adsorption and the antioxidant effect of ZIF-8, which could effectively improve the survival rate of reperfusion injury cells from 52% to 73%. Notably, selective and quantitative sensing of Zn2+ was successfully carried out in the cells. This strategy highlights the potential of the detection, absorption and assembly of excess zinc ions simultaneously for cell therapy, which provides a promising therapeutic method for ischemic stroke, oxidative damage and diseases associated with zinc ion accumulation. • Vibrations of JCCSs with bolt loosening boundary are studied theoretically and experimentally. • Non-uniform arc constraint is established to simulate the bolt loosening boundary. • The developed model is reliable in estimating the dynamic behaviors of bolted JCCSs with different loosening degrees. • Experimental results validate the present theoretical model. This paper investigated the vibration characteristics of joined conical-cylindrical shells (JCCSs) with bolt loosening boundary conditions both theoretically and experimentally. The non-uniform arc constraint model is established to simulate the bolt loosening boundary conditions by the artificial spring technology, which can describe the actual bolt contact pressure distribution. Continuously distributed artificial springs are introduced to realize the connection of the conical and cylindrical shells. Donnell's shell theory and Chebyshev polynomials are adopted to establish the theoretical model, and the dynamic equation is derived from the Lagrange equation. The validity of the present model is verified by the available literature, hammer test and vibration shaker test. The results indicate that the maximum errors of natural frequencies and resonant displacements are less than 4.41% and 18.6%, respectively. It is found that bolt loosening has a significant effect on the fundamental frequency, but it gradually weakens with the increase of the mode order. Increasing bolt loosening degree can lead to an increment of resonant displacement. The developed model is reliable in estimating the dynamic behaviors of bolted JCCSs with different loosening degrees, and it contributes to providing guidance in the design and service process of combined shell structures.
