Within the printed and online newspaper media in the UK, notions of 'decolonisation' referring to various contexts, such as historical, relating to museums and institutions, cultural decolonisation and in relation to modern independence discussions, can be traced. In this article, we have applied topic modelling and natural language processing methods to carry out a classification of, and sentiment analysis on, newspaper headlines and texts from leading British newspapers covering decolonisation over the past decade. The results show an abrupt change in the meaning of decolonisation starting in the middle of the 2010s with an increased focus on cultural and institutional matters, particularly in right-leaning media. Surprisingly, the editorial slant of broadsheets seemingly only had at best moderate effects on tone, while headlines in right-wing tabloids were significantly more negative. Articles covering cultural aspects of decolonisation were substantially more negative than those applying a more traditional, territorial definition of decolonisation. Given the influence of newspaper media on public and private opinions, we discuss the heritage implications of these findings and suggest avenues for further investigation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Portable chest radiography is a valuable tool in the intensive care unit. However, the supine position causes superposition of anatomical structures resulting in less reliable detection of certain abnormalities. Recently, a portable digital tomosynthesis (pDTS) prototype with a modified motorized x-ray device was developed. We aimed to compare the diagnostic value of pDTS to standard bedside chest radiography in the diagnosis of a posterior pneumothorax. A modified motorized x-ray device was developed to perform 15 radiographic projections while translating the x-ray tube 25 cm (10 cm ramp up and 15 cm during x-ray exposure) with a total radiation dose of 0.54 mSv. This new technique of pDTS was performed in addition to standard bedside chest x-ray in a patient with a confirmed posterior hydropneumothorax. The images were compared with the standard bedside chest x-ray and computed tomography (CT) images by two experienced radiologists. The posterior hydropneumothorax previously identified with CT was visible on tomosynthesis images but not with standard bedside imaging. Combining the digital tomosynthesis technique with the portable x-ray machine could increase the diagnostic value of bedside chest radiography for the diagnosis of posterior pneumothoraces while avoiding intrahospital transport and limiting radiation exposure compared to CT. E-commerce growth as experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic was only expected to occur by 2025–2030. Online shopping increased in intensity and diversity. At the same time, retailers diversified their operations and opened online channels, also in sectors that previously showed reluctance to make this shift. These evolutions resulted in an expansion of household freight in terms of volume, geography, and organisation. Hence, half a decade of innovation in the e-commerce sector was needed in the span of two years. This manuscript summarises the repercussions for household freight since the pandemic's start. Given that interactions between consumers, retailers, and logistics service providers drive the e-commerce system, this manuscript combines these different literatures into a holistic framework, going beyond traditional siloed research on last-mile logistics, retail strategies, or online shopping behaviour. We found that logistics has come to the forefront: logistics service providers now need to provide tailored services and come in direct contact with consumers. As a result, we need (i) to gain insights into the new geography and dynamics of household's freight origins and destinations; (ii) use this to re-examine existing relationships between consumer, retailer, and logistics service provider, and; (iii) assess the impact of more demanding consumers on the sustainability of the overall system. Purpose: To investigate the accuracy and total assessment time (TAT) of the "All-in-one" (AIO)-window/level setting for whole-body computed tomography (CT) image compared to multiple tissue-specific window/level settings conventionally used for detection of traumatic injuries.Method: Contrast-enhanced chest, abdomen, and pelvic CT scans of 50 patients who presented to our emergency department (ED) for major trauma were retrospectively selected. In a simulation of a "wet read" performed at the CT scanner console, 6 readers with different levels of experience had up to 3 min to describe any traumatic finding identified on the CTs. The readers reviewed each patient in two different sessions separated by a washout period to suppress any recall bias from one session to the next. Each scan was reviewed once using the AIO-window/level setting and another time using the conventional bone, lung, and soft tissue window/level display settings, in a randomized order. The CT reports were used as reference standard.Results: Overall, there was no statistically significant difference in the assessment accuracy of the review based on the AIO or the conventional window/level settings (0.89 ± 0.09 vs 0.90 ± 0.08). Using the AIO-window/level settings, TAT was 14.3 s faster when compared with the conventional window/level settings (2.33 ± 0.63 vs 2.57 ± 0.51 min; p < 0.001).Conclusions: In a time-delimited image review, similar diagnostic accuracy was reached faster using the AIO vs the conventional window/level settings. When providing a "wet read" at the CT console, the ability to identify traumatic injury using a single AIO-window/level may help expedite patient management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the tradition of Christaller's central place theory, policy and scientific studies delineate retail markets around predefined central places. Evolutions on the demand and supply side have changed where consumers shop and where stores are located. We use spatial network analysis techniques (Leiden detection algorithm) that allow for a bottom-up approach. The data were sourced from a questionnaire on shopping in Flanders (Belgium). The results show that community detection is able to deal with the geographical complexity of retail. Communities for daily goods shopping remain small, for recurring goods have become very large, even bigger than those for exceptional goods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research on regional economic development increasingly embraces more nuanced perspectives on the evolution of clusters, industries and agglomerations. The extent to which the emergence and decline of clusters can be directed with intentional regional development strategies is, however, a major point of discussion. The article links the cluster life cycle concept to regional development strategies in order to examine the trajectory of Europe's largest chemical complex in and around the Port of Antwerp (Belgium). This chemical cluster has matured and currently is in a state of stability. Although the cluster did not experience growth over the last decades in terms of new entrants, it did transform internally and maintained its importance as a production centre. Thus, whereas lock-in mechanisms hampered growth, they also prevented the cluster from going into a state of decline. We argue that while regional development strategies stimulated new emerging clusters in the Flemish region, vested interests in the port and associated lock-in mechanisms have resisted such developments in Antwerp. New growth trajectories based on the chemical cluster were therefore difficult to recreate in the Antwerp region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Portable bedside chest X-ray (CXR) is an important and frequently used tool in the intensive care unit (ICU). Unfortunately, the diagnostic value of portable CXR is often low due to technical limitations and suboptimal patient positioning. Additionally, abnormalities in the chest may be hidden on the projection image by overlapping anatomy and devices such as endotracheal tubes, lines and catheters. Digital tomosynthesis (DTS) can solve the problem of anatomical overlap. In DTS, several low-dose X-ray images from different angles are acquired and subsequently used by a reconstruction algorithm to compute section images along planes parallel to the detector. However, a portable device to be used for portable bedside chest DTS is not on the market yet. In this work, we discuss modifications to a portable X-ray device to enable portable DTS and illustrate the potential of portable DTS to improve the diagnostic value of bedside CXR in the ICU. A simulation, based on computed tomography scans, is presented. Object reconstruction from a series of projection images, such as in computed tomography (CT), is a popular tool in many different application fields. Existing commercial software typically provides sufficiently accurate and convenient-to-use reconstruction tools to the end-user. However, in applications where a non-standard acquisition protocol is used, or where advanced reconstruction methods are required, the standard software tools often are incapable of computing accurate reconstruction images. This article introduces the ASTRA Toolbox. Aimed at researchers across multiple tomographic application fields, the ASTRA Toolbox provides a highly efficient and highly flexible open source set of tools for tomographic projection and reconstruction. The main features of the ASTRA Toolbox are discussed and several use cases are presented.

Purpose: Projections acquired with continuous gantry rotation may suffer from blurring effects, depending on the rotation speed and the exposure time of each projection. This leads to blurred reconstructions if conventional reconstruction algorithms are applied. In this paper, the authors propose a reconstruction method for fast acquisitions based on a continuously moving and continuously emitting x-ray source. They study the trade-off between total acquisition time and reconstruction quality and compare with conventional reconstructions using projections acquired with a stepwise moving x-ray source., Methods: The authors introduce the algebraic reconstruction technique with angular integration concept, which models the angular integration due to the relative motion of the x-ray source during the projection., Results: Compared to conventional reconstruction from projections acquired with pulsed x-ray emission, the proposed method results in substantially improved reconstruction quality around the center of rotation. Outside this region, the proposed method results in improved radial resolution and a decreased tangential resolution. For a fixed reconstruction quality of this region of interest, the proposed method enables a lower number of projections and thus a faster acquisition., Conclusions: The modeling of the continuous gantry rotation in the proposed method substantially improves the reconstruction quality in a region of interest around the rotation center. The proposed method shows potential for fast region of interest tomography.
