Abstract

In multi-electrode devices, charge pulses at all the electrodes are induced concurrently by the motion of the excess charge carriers generated by a single ion. This charge-sharing effect is such that the pulse amplitude at each sensitive electrode depends on the device geometry, its overall electrostatic configuration, and the charge transport properties of the detecting material. Therefore, the cross-analysis of the charge pulses induced at each electrode offers implicit information on the position of the ion impact. In this work, we investigate the two-dimensional position sensitivity of a diamond detector fabricated by deep ion beam lithography. By exploiting the ion beam induced charge technique, the device was exposed to a 2 MeV Li+ ion micro-beam to map the spatial dependence of the charge collection efficiency (CCE) on the nominal micro-beam scanning position. The combination of the CCE maps revealed a two-dimensional position sensitivity of the device with micrometric resolution at the center of the active region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In the framework of the research and development activities of the Selective Production of Exotic Species (SPES) project [1] regarding the optimization of the radioactive beam production a new home made Time of Flight Mass Spectrometer (ToF-MS) was build in the off-line laser laboratory. Thanks to this instrument it is possible to test resonant laser ionization processes of stable species, to evaluate their ionization efficiency and even isotope separation capability. Nowadays, a Nd:YAG laser is used to evaporate atoms by laser ablation in the spectrometer, making these atoms available for later resonant ionization processes. The new evaporation oven, replacing the ablation system, is designed to guarantee a more stable and calibrated atom flux making possible laser ionization efficiency measurements, which are inapplicable with the current system. This work will present the design of the new graphite oven system, its preliminary heating tests, and first measurements aimed to evaluate the evaporation profile generated by the heated furnace. Abstract

The spectrum of D=4 supersymmetric Yang–Mills quantum mechanics is computed with high accuracy in all channels of angular momentum and fermion number. Localized and nonlocalized states coexists in certain channels as a consequence of the supersymmetric interactions with flat valleys. All states fall into well identifiable supermultiplets providing an explicit realization of supersymmetry on the spectroscopic level. An accidental degeneracy among some supermultiplets has been found. Regularized Witten index converges to a time-independent constant which agrees with earlier calculations.

Abstract

25th-order high-temperature series are computed for a general nearest-neighbor three-dimensional Ising model with arbitrary potential on the simple cubic lattice. In particular, we consider three improved potentials characterized by suppressed leading scaling corrections. Critical exponents are extracted from high-temperature series specialized to improved potentials, obtaining $\gamma=1.2373(2)$, $\nu=0.63012(16)$, $\alpha=0.1096(5)$, $\eta=0.03639(15)$, $\beta=0.32653(10)$, $\delta=4.7893(8)$. Moreover, biased analyses of the 25th-order series of the standard Ising model provide the estimate $\Delta=0.52(3)$ for the exponent associated with the leading scaling corrections. By the same technique, we study the small-magnetization expansion of the Helmholtz free energy. The results are then applied to the construction of parametric representations of the critical equation of state, using a systematic approach based on a global stationarity condition. Abstract

The purpose of this study is the study of the physical parameters of a multilayer dichroic produced by PVD Magnetron Sputtering. The multilayers were designed by using a dedicated software and subsequently characterized by Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) in order to determine both the stoichiometry of the deposited oxides (SiO2 and TiO2) and the homogeneity of the film surface. RBS technique allowed to verify the variation of the deposited multilayer after annealing. AFM analysis was used to determine the roughness and thickness of the deposited layers, while some key parameters for optical behavior were obtained with a spectrophotometric analysis. These specific multilayers have been used in optical applications and particularly in the separation of the spectrum of the solar radiation systems for concentration photovoltaics (CPV). Abstract

A new, recursive method of calculating matrix elements of polynomial hamiltonians is proposed. It is particularly suitable for the recent algebraic studies of the supersymmetric Yang–Mills quantum mechanics in any dimensions. For the D=2 system with the SU(2) gauge group, considered here, the technique gives exact, closed expressions for arbitrary matrix elements of the hamiltonian and of the supersymmetric charge, in the occupation number representation. Subsequent numerical diagonalization provides spectrum and restricted Witten index of the system with very high precision (taking into account up to 105 quanta). Independently, the exact value of the restricted Witten index is derived analytically for the first time. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
