Abstract

The CARMENES (Calar Alto high-Resolution search for M dwarfs with Exo-earths with Near-infrared and optical Echelle Spectrographs) consortium, consisting of eleven Spanish and German institutions, has been established to conduct a radial-velocity survey of M dwarfs with the 3.5 m telescope at the Calar Alto Observatory. This survey will target ∼300 M stars, with emphasis on spectral types M4V and later. The CARMENES instrument is currently under construction; it consists of two independent échelle spectrographs covering the wavelength ranges 0.55 …1.05 μm and 0.95 …1.7 μm, respectively, at a spectral resolution of R = 82,000. The spectrographs are fed by fibers from the Cassegrain focus of the telescope; calibration is performed simultaneously with emission-line lamps. The optical benches of the spectrographs are housed in vacuum tanks and climatic chambers, which provide the temperature-stabilized environments necessary to enable a 1 m/s radial velocity precision.

Abstract

Exploiting the huge amount of data provided by the CARMENES survey, this work aims to study the chromospheric activity of M dwarfs based on a sub-sample (active RV-loud M dwarfs) of CARMENES GTO sample. Using the spectral subtraction technique and calibrations of the continuum-flux near the line of interest, the available information on the chromospheric activity flux is extracted. Most of the chromospheric indicators included in the spectral range of the spectrograph, ranging from visible (VIS) - that include the Na I D1&D2 He I D3 and H$\alpha\ lines - to near-infrared (NIR) - that include the Ca~{\sc ii} IRT, $He\lambda10830$, $Paschen\alpha$ and Paschenβ lines - are used. For the implementation of the spectral subtraction technique, a Python code (iSTARMOD) based on a previous FORTRAN one, formerly used by the research group, is used. The synthetic spectra for effective temperatures in the range [2400, 7000] K, allows through the calibrations a comparison of the flux-flux relationships with previous works performed for F, G and K dwarfs. The studies of flux-flux relationships of lines formed at different chromosphere layers seek for a better understanding of the magnetic activity of M-type dwarf stars and try to determine the number of different chromospheric emitters populations, deduced from the non-universality of these relationships for Ca II IRT lines., {"references":["Barden, S. Abstract

We present the discovery and characterisation of two transiting planets observed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) orbiting the nearby (d∗ ≈ 22 pc), bright (J ≈ 9 mag) M3.5 dwarf LTT 3780 (TOI-732). We confirm both planets and their association with LTT 3780 via ground-based photometry and determine their masses using precise radial velocities measured with the CARMENES spectrograph. Precise stellar parameters determined from CARMENES high-resolution spectra confirm that LTT 3780 is a mid-M dwarf with an effective temperature of Teff = 3360 ± 51 K, a surface gravity of log g∗ = 4.81 ± 0.04 (cgs), and an iron abundance of [Fe/H] = 0.09 ± 0.16 dex, with an inferred mass of M∗ = 0.379 ± 0.016M· and a radius of R∗ = 0.382 ± 0.012R·. The ultra-short-period planet LTT 3780 b (Pb = 0.77 d) with a radius of 1.35-0.06+0.06 R·, a mass of 2.34-0.23+0.24 M·, and a bulk density of 5.24-0.81+0.94 g cm-3 joins the population of Earth-size planets with rocky, terrestrial composition. The outer planet, LTT 3780 c, with an orbital period of 12.25 d, radius of 2.42-0.10+0.10 R·, mass of 6.29-0.61+0.63 M·, and mean density of 2.45-0.37+0.44 g cm-3 belongs to the population of dense sub-Neptunes. With the two planets located on opposite sides of the radius gap, this planetary system is anexcellent target for testing planetary formation, evolution, and atmospheric models. In particular, LTT 3780 c is an ideal object for atmospheric studies with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Abstract

Due to the widespread of mass-trapping systems for Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin) (Diptera: Tephritidae) control in organic olive cropping, an assessment of the impact on arthropods of the olive agroecosystem was undertaken for the OLIPE trap type. The sampling was carried out in "Los Pedroches" valley (Cordoba, southern Spain) in three different organic orchard sites. Six OLIPE traps baited with diammonium phosphate were collected from each site (18 in total) from July to November 2002 every 15 days on average. Additionally, in the latest sampling dates, half the traps were reinforced with pheromone to assess its impact on non-target arthropods. From an average of 43.0 catches per trap (cpt) of non-target arthropods during the whole sampling period, the highest number of captures corresponds to the Order Diptera (that represents a 68.5%), followed distantly by the family Formicidae (12.9%) and the Order Lepidoptera (10.4%). Besides the impact on ant populations, other beneficial groups were recorded such as parasitoids (Other Hymenoptera: 2.6%) and predators (Araneae: 1.0%; Neuroptera s.l.: 0.4%). Concerning the temporal distribution of catches, total captures peaked on July and had a slight increase at the beginning of autumn. No significant differences were observed between traps with and without pheromone. The results evidence that a considerable amount of non-specific captures could be prevented by improving the temporal planning of the mass-trapping system., Debido a la extensión del trampeo masivo como método de control para Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin) (Diptera: Tephritidae) en el cultivo ecológico del olivo, se llevó a cabo una evaluación del efecto de la trampa tipo OLIPE sobre los artrópodos del agroecosistema del olivar. El muestreo fue realizado en el valle de "Los Pedroches" (Córdoba, sur de España), en tres olivares ecológicos distintos. De cada olivar se recogieron 6 trampas OLIPE cebadas con fosfato diamónico (18 en total) desde julio a noviembre de 2002 con una periodicidad media de 15 días. Además, en las últimas fechas de muestreo, la mitad de las trampas fueron reforzadas mediante la adición de feromona para evaluar su impacto. De una media de 43,0 capturas por trampa (cpt) de artrópodos no objetivo a lo largo del periodo total de muestreo, la mayor parte de las capturas correspondieron al Orden Diptera (representando el 68,5%) seguidos por la familia Formicidae (12,9%) y el Orden Lepidoptera (10,4%). Aparte del impacto sobre la población de hormigas, se registraron capturas de otros grupos de beneficiosos tales como parasitoides, (Otros Hymenoptera: 2,6%) y depredadores (Araneae: 1,0%; Neuroptera s.l.: 0,4%). En cuanto a la distribución temporal, las capturas totales tuvieron un máximo en julio y un ligero incremento al comienzo de otoño. No se hallaron diferencias significativas entre las capturas de trampas con feromona y sin ella. Abstract: Parity violation in elastic electron–nucleon scattering is studied with the basic goal of improving the understanding of electroweak hadronic structure with special emphasis on the strangeness content in the nucleon. Models for the parity-violating (PV) asymmetry are provided and compared with the world data measured at very different kinematics. The effects introduced in the PV asymmetry due to alternative descriptions of the hadronic structure are analyzed in detail. In particular, a wide selection of prescriptions for dealing with the electromagnetic and neutral current weak interaction nucleon form factors, including the most recent ones used in the literature, is considered. Abstract: The Coulomb sum rule for inclusive quasielastic electron scattering in 12C, 40Ca and 56Fe is analyzed based on scaling and superscaling properties. Results obtained in the relativistic impulse approximation with various descriptions of the final state interactions are shown. A comparison with experimental data measured at Bates and Saclay is provided. The theoretical description based on strong scalar and vector terms present in the relativistic mean field, which has been shown to reproduce the experimental asymmetric superscaling function, leads to results that are in fair agreement with Bates data while it sizeably overestimates Saclay data. We find that the Coulomb sum rule for a momentum transfer saturates to a value close to 0.9, being very similar for the three nuclear systems considered. This is in accordance with Bates data, which indicates that these show no significative quenching in the longitudinal response. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The role of isospin in quasielastic electron scattering and charge-changing neutrino reactions is investigated in the relativistic impulse approximation. We analyze proton and neutron scaling functions making use of various theoretical descriptions for the final-state interactions, focusing on the effects introduced by the presence of strong scalar and vector terms in the relativistic mean field approach. An explanation for the differences observed in the scaling functions evaluated from and reactions is provided by invoking the differences in isoscalar and isovector contributions. Abstract: A study of the total cross section for polarized proton knockout in reactions is carried out for the closed-shell nucleus 40Ca. The dependence of FSI effects on polarization observables viewed as functions of the nucleon polarization angles is analyzed and interpreted within the basis of a semi-classical model for the orbit of the struck nucleon and trajectory of the ejected nucleon.
