Intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs) remain a severe complication of ocular trauma commonly encountered worldwide. This literature review aimed to discuss current practice patterns, areas of controversy, and advances in the management of IOFBs. Injuries involving IOFBs carry significant ocular morbidity and management can be extremely challenging. A systematic approach to preoperative evaluation and IOFB surgical management is detailed in this article and should be applied in each case. The location and composition of an IOFB have important implications on surgical approach and timing, especially in cases of toxic metals and vegetable matter. The advantages, disadvantages, and previous literature regarding immediate versus delayed foreign body removal are presented. Surgical approaches are described, with an emphasis on posterior chamber IOFB management and removal via pars plana vitrectomy. Final visual acuity is variable, but approaches have been used to prognosticate outcomes including the Ocular Trauma Score. By synthesizing current IOFB literature, the goal is to provide practitioners with guidance that will maximize the chances of surgical success and patient outcomes.

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) is involved in neuroinflammation and HIV-associated neurocognitive impairment (NCI). People with HIV (PWH) using cannabis exhibit lower inflammation and neurological disorders. We hypothesized that TREM2 dysfunction mediates HIV neuropathogenesis and can be reversed by cannabinoids. EcoHIV-infected wildtype (WT) and TREM2R47H mutant mice were used to study HIV’s impact on TREM2 and behavior. TREM2 and related gene expressions were examined in monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) from PWH (n = 42) and people without HIV (PWoH; n = 19) with varying cannabis use via RNA sequencing and qPCR. Differences in membrane-bound and soluble TREM2 (sTREM2) were evaluated using immunocytochemistry (ICC) and ELISA. EcoHIV increased immature and C-terminal fragment forms of TREM2 in WT mice but not in TREM2R47H mice, with increased IBA1 protein in TREM2R47H hippocampi, correlating with worse memory test performance. TREM2 mRNA levels increased with age in PWoH but not in PWH. Cannabidiol (CBD) treatment increased TREM2 mRNA alone and with IL1β. RNA-seq showed the upregulation of TREM2-related transcripts in cannabis-using PWH compared to naïve controls. IL1β increased sTREM2 and reduced membrane-bound TREM2, effects partially reversed by CBD. These findings suggest HIV affects TREM2 expression modulated by cannabis and CBD, offering insights for therapeutic strategies.

We report the case of a 71-year-old man who presented 2 years following renal transplantation with diffuse, unilateral cytomegalovirus retinitis five weeks after receiving an intravitreal dexamethasone implant device for the management of central retinal vein occlusion. Examination of the left eye showed diffuse retinal hemorrhages, attenuated and tortuous retinal vessels, and superior retinal whitening. The patient was successfully treated with serial intravitreal foscarnet injections and oral valganciclovir with disease regression observed by 12 weeks after presentation. The patient’s visual acuity and examination remained stable at 9-months follow-up.

Abstract Mutations in the Fragile X Messenger Ribonucleoprotein 1 (FMR1) gene are linked to Fragile X Syndrome, the most common monogenic cause of intellectual disability and autism. People affected with mutations in FMR1 have higher incidence of obesity, but the mechanisms are largely unknown. In the current study, we determined that male Fmr1 knockout mice (KO, Fmr1 −/y ), but not female Fmr1 −/−, exhibit increased weight when compared to wild-type controls, similarly to humans with FMR1 mutations. No differences in food or water intake were found between groups; however, male Fmr1 −/y display lower locomotor activity, especially during their active phase. Moreover, Fmr1 −/y have olfactory dysfunction determined by buried food test, although they exhibit increased compulsive behavior, determined by marble burying test. Since olfactory brain regions communicate with hypothalamic regions that regulate food intake, including POMC neurons that also regulate locomotion, we examined POMC neuron innervation and numbers in Fmr1 −/y mice. POMC neurons express Fmrp, and POMC neurons in Fmr1 −/y have higher inhibitory GABAergic synaptic inputs. Consistent with increased inhibitory innervation, POMC neurons in the Fmr1 −/y mice exhibit lower activity, based on cFOS expression. Notably, Fmr1 −/y mice have fewer POMC neurons than controls, specifically in the rostral arcuate nucleus, which could contribute to decreased locomotion and increased body weight. These results suggest a role for Fmr1 in the regulation of POMC neuron function and the etiology of Fmr1-linked obesity.

Capturing how the Caenorhabditis elegans connectome structure gives rise to its neuron functionality remains unclear. It is through fiber symmetries found in its neuronal connectivity that synchronization of a group of neurons can be determined. To understand these we investigate graph symmetries and search for such in the symmetrized versions of the forward and backward locomotive sub-networks of the Caenorhabditi elegans worm neuron network. The use of ordinarily differential equations simulations admissible to these graphs are used to validate the predictions of these fiber symmetries and are compared to the more restrictive orbit symmetries. Additionally fibration symmetries are used to decompose these graphs into their fundamental building blocks which reveal units formed by nested loops or multilayered fibers. It is found that fiber symmetries of the connectome can accurately predict neuronal synchronization even under not idealized connectivity as long as the dynamics are within stable regimes of simulations.

IntroductionThe ability of children to accomplish progressively more difficult gross motor tasks follows a predictable sequence that has been well documented as part of development. Current existing instruments were developed independently using classical test theory methods which led to the lack of a universal measurement scale and unit. The purpose of this study was to test a specification equation, anchored to commonly accepted and reproducible tasks in gross motor development, to generate a universal measurement scale and unit of measurement, called the Gross Motor (GM) unit.MethodsWe rated component measures for each of the gross motor development tasks on the Gross Motor Function Measure-66 (GMFM). The GMFM is a gross motor development measure created with Rasch measurement theory to quantify observed difficulty levels measured on an interval scale. Component measures for body position, movement, and support were based on hypothesized contributions to gross motor development based on theory. Forward stepwise linear regression was used to test a specification equation. The specification equation was anchored to reference points to fix a unit size.ResultsOur specification equation explained 87% of the variance in observed gross motor task difficulty. Objective: To determine whether the measurement properties of an instrument that combines items from the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and the Functional Gait Assessment (FGA) called the Functional Balance Ability Measure (FBAM) supports measuring balance across the functional mobility spectrum. Design: Retrospective cohort. Setting: Item-level data were from an archival research database. Participants: Ambulatory individuals (N=93, BBS=50 [29-56], FGA=16 [0-30], Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Lower Extremities=27 [14-34], self-selected walking speed=0.4±0.2 m/s, mean age ± SD, 61.7±11.3y; 30.1% female) with chronic stroke (≥6 months). Interventions: Not applicable. Main Outcome Measures: Unidimensionality was evaluated with a principal components analysis (PCA) of residuals. FBAM rating-scale characteristics, item hierarchy, item and person fit, and person separation were investigated using the Andrich Rating Scale Model. Results: PCA findings indicate the FBAM is sufficiently unidimensional. Rating scale structure was appropriate without modifying the original BBS and FGA scoring systems. Item hierarchy aligned with clinical and theoretical predictions (hardest item: FGA-gait with narrow base of support, easiest item: BBS-sitting unsupported). One item (BBS-standing on 1 foot) misfit, however, removal marginally affected person measures and model statistics. The FBAM demonstrated high person reliability (0.9) and 6 people (∼6%) misfit the expected response pattern. The FBAM separated participants into 4 statistically distinct strata, without a floor or ceiling effect. Conclusions: The FBAM is a unidimensional measure for balance ability across a continuum of functional tasks. Rating-scale characteristics, item hierarchy, item and person fit, and person separation support the FBAM's measurement properties in persons with chronic stroke. Future work should investigate measurement with fewer items and whether the FBAM addresses barriers to adoption of standardized balance measures in clinical practice.

Chemical agents have been utilized for centuries in warfare and pose a health threat to civilians and military personnel during armed conflict. Despite treaties and regulations against their use, chemical agent exposure remains a threat and measures to understand their effects and countermeasures for systemic and organ-specific health are needed. Many of these agents have ocular complications, both acute and chronic. This mini-review focuses on key chemical agents including vesicants (mustards, lewisite), nerve agents (sarin, VX), knockdown gasses (hydrogen cyanide), and caustics (hydrofluoric acid). Their ophthalmic manifestations and appropriate treatment are emphasized. Acute interventions include removal of the source and meticulous decontamination, as well as normalization of pH to 7.2–7.4 if alteration of the ocular pH is observed. Besides vigorous lavage, acute therapies may include topical corticosteroids and non-steroid anti-inflammatory therapies. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict donning and doffing protocols to avoid healthcare provider exposure are also paramount in the acute setting. For more severe disease, corneal transplantation, amniotic membrane graft, and limbal stem cell transplantation may be needed. Orbital surgery may be required in patients in whom cicatricial changes of the ocular surface have developed, leading to eyelid malposition. Multidisciplinary care teams are often required to handle the full spectrum of findings and consequences associated with emerging chemical threats.

ABSTRACT Objective: The purpose of this study is to find the relation between overweight and obesity with lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia in pre-elderly. Material & Methods: This analytical study was conducted in a cross sectional manner to 113 respondents. LUTS assessment uses the International Prostate Symptoms Score questionnaire. Measurements for overweight and obesity, this study uses the BMI and waist circumference methods. Fisher's exact test with SPSS v.25 was used for data analysis. Results: Results from data analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between overweight and obesity based on the BMI method on LUTS, p = 0.122. The results also showed a significant relationship between central obesity and LUTS, p = 0.003. Conclusion: Central obesity can be identified as a risk factor for LUTS while overweight and obesity based on the BMI method cannot be considered as a risk factor. These results can be used as education for pre-elderly to reduce the risk of LUTS due to BPH. Keywords: Overweight, obesity, lower urinary tract symptoms, benign prostatic hyperplasia, pre-elderly.

Abstract Knowledge regarding the neural origins of distinct upper extremity impairments may guide the choice of interventions to target neural structures responsible for specific impairments. This cross‐sectional pilot study investigated whether different brain networks explain distinct aspects of hand grip performance in stroke survivors. In 22 chronic stroke survivors, hand grip performance was characterized as grip strength, reaction, relaxation times, and control of grip force magnitude and direction. In addition, their brain structural connectomes were constructed from diffusion tensor MRI. Prominent networks were identified based on a two‐step factor analysis using the number of streamlines among brain regions relevant to sensorimotor function. We used regression models to estimate the predictive value of sensorimotor network connectivity for hand grip performance measures while controlling for stroke lesion volumes. Each hand grip performance measure correlated with the connectivity of distinct brain sensorimotor networks. These results suggest that different brain networks may be responsible for different aspects of hand grip performance, which leads to varying clinical presentations of upper extremity impairment following stroke. Understanding the brain network correlates for different hand grip performances may facilitate the development of personalized rehabilitation interventions to directly target the responsible brain network for specific impairments in individual patients, thus improving outcomes.

Background: Penetrating trauma to the larynx is a rare phenomenon with a high risk of mortality and morbidity due to the density of vital structures in the area (Demetriades et al., 1996). Most commonly, this type of injury is due to a gunshot wound or knife injury (Snow and Ballenger, 2003). In cases of suicidal cutthroat injury, it is relatively rare to penetrate the airway (Symbas et al., 1976). Case report: We present a case of self-penetrating trauma to the anterior neck allowing access for direct laryngeal visualization and transcervical intubation in the field. We describe the immediate workup, surgical intervention, and postoperative management. We focus on managing postoperative cough, secretion management, decannulation, and resultant dysphagia. Conclusion: Penetrating laryngeal trauma resulting in airway transection is a rare but potentially fatal phenomenon in which airway management and aggressive post-operative care for severe coughing and dysphagia should be performed to help improve patient outcomes.

Background: SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus strain responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, can lead to respiratory diseases ranging in severity. In the early stages, each U.S. state implemented a transition or “phasing” policy that included varying degrees of safety protocols. This allowed the states to slowly reopen while controlling transmission. The initial lockdown was observed to help suppress the pandemic, and our study aimed to determine if there was a correlation between fatality rates and the phase transitions across the states. Methods: Six states from regions with different caseloads were chosen for this study: Florida, California, New York, Washington, Kansas, and Texas. Incidence and mortality rate of COVID-19 were obtained from their respective government websites, allowing case fatality rates to be calculated and compared using Bayesian logistic mixed models. Results: When examining the fatality rates across phases grouped by state, there was a downward trend with each transition except in Texas. However, when the states were combined the overall downward trend was clear, with a median fatality rate of 0.039 in phase 0 dropping to 0.010 by phase 4. Conclusion: Implemented safety protocols and phase transitions were shown to assist in controlling the spread of COVID-19 as the states re-opened. Differences in fatality rates throughout the U.S. can likely be explained by how disciplined each state was with quarantine requirements and social distancing policies. This allowed certain states to control the infectious spread more efficiently than others, thus allowing the states to progress through the phase transitions at different rates.

Background SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus strain responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, can lead to severe respiratory disease and death. Worldwide, government officials tried to protect its citizens by mandating various lockdowns and social distancing policies to curb the spread. In the United States, each state initially implemented a transition or “phasing” policy that included varying degrees of safety protocols. This allowed them to re-open gradually, the goal being to reduce transmission rates while simultaneously allowing for higher degrees of public gatherings and events. The initial lockdown was observed to help suppress the pandemic, and the states–with guidance from the CDC–were left to their own agenda on how to best re-open their economy. This strategy was seen as optimal during the early stages of the pandemic. Our study aimed to determine if there was a correlation between fatality rates and phase transitions across the states. Methods The states selected for this study allowed for evaluation of different management styles throughout the phase transitions. COVID-19 case rates varied across the U.S.; some states observed higher infection rates than others. Thus, six states, each from regions with different caseloads and safety protocol compliance, were selected for this study: Florida, California, New York, Washington, Kansas, and Texas. Metrics such as incidence and mortality rate of COVID-19 infection were obtained from their respective government websites, allowing fatality rates to be calculated and compared using Bayesian logistic mixed models. Results There are significant outcomes when analyzing the data individually and as part of a meta-analysis. When examining the fatality rates across phases grouped by individual state, there was a downward trend with each transition except in Texas. New York was found to have the lowest median fatality rate (median [IQR]; 0.011 [0.007, 0.017]), followed by Washington (0.014 [0.011, 0.020]), Kansas (0.014 [0.009, 0.021], Texas (0.018 [0.013, 0.028]), California (0.021 [0.011, 0.037]), and Florida (0.022 [0.011, 0.034]). However, when the states’ data was pooled an overall downward trend was demonstrated, with a median fatality rate of 0.039 [0.019, 0.067] in phase 0, dropping to 0.010 [0.007, 0.013] by phase 4. A decrease in fatality rate odds by about 33.4% through each phase transition was observed when combining all the states. Conclusion Based on our results, implemented safety protocols and phase transitions were shown to assist in controlling the spread of COVID-19 as the states re-opened during the first year of the pandemic. Differences in fatality rates throughout the U.S. can likely be explained by how disciplined each state was with quarantine requirements and social distancing policies. This allowed certain states to control the infectious spread more efficiently than others, thus allowing them to progress through the phase transitions at different rates as they returned to normal. Future studies are warranted and can incorporate additional states for a more robust sample size. Further accounting for confounding variables, such as patient comorbidities and the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines at the end of 2020, would also allow insight into how fatality rates have been affected across the U.S.

BackgroundMass flexion-extension co-excitation patterns during walking are often seen as a consequence of stroke, but there is limited understanding of the specific contributions of different descending motor pathways toward their control. The corticospinal tract is a major descending motor pathway influencing the production of normal sequential muscle coactivation patterns for skilled movements. However, control of walking is also influenced by non-corticospinal pathways such as the corticoreticulospinal pathway that possibly contribute toward mass flexion-extension co-excitation patterns during walking. The current study sought to investigate the associations between damage to corticospinal (CST) and corticoreticular (CRP) motor pathways following stroke and the presence of mass flexion-extension patterns during walking as evaluated using module analysis.MethodsSeventeen healthy controls and 44 stroke survivors were included in the study. We used non-negative matrix factorization for module analysis of paretic leg electromyographic activity. We typically have observed four modules during walking in healthy individuals. Stroke survivors often have less independently timed modules, for example two-modules presented as mass flexion-extension pattern. We used diffusion tensor imaging-based analysis where streamlines connecting regions of interest between the cortex and brainstem were computed to evaluate CST and CRP integrity. We also used a coarse classification tree analysis to evaluate the relative CST and CRP contribution toward module control.ResultsInterhemispheric CST asymmetry was associated with worse lower extremity Fugl-Meyer score (p = 0.023), propulsion symmetry (p = 0.016), and fewer modules (p = 0.028). Interhemispheric CRP asymmetry was associated with worse lower extremity Fugl-Meyer score (p = 0.009), Dynamic gait index (p = 0.035), Six-minute walk test (p = 0.020), Berg balance scale (p = 0.048), self-selected walking speed (p = 0.041), and propulsion symmetry (p = 0.001). The classification tree model reveled that substantial ipsilesional CRP or CST damage leads to a two-module pattern and poor walking ability with a trend toward increased compensatory contralesional CRP based control.ConclusionBoth CST and CRP are involved with control of modules during walking and damage to both may lead to greater reliance on the contralesional CRP, which may contribute to a two-module pattern and be associated with worse walking performance.

The purpose of this narrative inquiry is to better understand why students in higher education are motivated to get involved in student government. We analyzed the responses of ten current student government leaders at public regional comprehensive institutions in the United States. The analysis is guided by Astin's theory of student involvement and the social change model of leadership development. The study finds that many leaders did not initially plan to engage in student government, emphasizing the impact of past civic involvement, current student engagement, and peer invitations on their subsequent student government participation. Implications call for institutions to deepen their understanding of enrolled students and provide accessible avenues for leadership development.

This article highlights an ongoing academic-community partnership between university researchers and City Year Miami, the local site of a national education non-profit serving the nation's third-largest school district. AmeriCorps Members (ACMs) serve as small-group interventionists and behavior/attendance coaches for the county's lowest performing students. Collaboration with City Year Miami supplemented their routine workforce support with trainings (n = 18) for City Year Miami Team Leaders (TLs) and ACMs focused on youth mental health. Trainings emphasized the Cognitive Triangle by highlighting how to bring compassion and intentionality to their work with students, school partners (e.g., teachers, teammates, and administrators), and their own self-care. We present our collaboration, the training model, and process data representing three layers of organizational voice that informed iterative revisions and refinement to the training model. Data sources (n = 45 TLs and ACMs) highlight what was learned from each group (TLs, ACMs, and leadership) and include: (1) pre-training survey data, (2) training-generated data such as attendance and exit slips, (3) post-training survey data measuring intent to use training content, and facilitators and barriers to use, and (4) meeting-generated data from formal (planned, agenda-driven) and informal (impromptu) partner discussions. Emphasis is placed on the role of City Year Miami organizational leaders and providers at all stages of research and implementation, as well as lessons learned in this community-partnered, school-engaged work, including takeaways related to positionality, partnership, and research.

Adolescents spend approximately one-third of their day at school. With the growing prevalence of adolescent asthma, 1 in every 10 adolescents copes with asthma throughout the day, including in the school environment. Yet, little is known about the school experiences of adolescent students with asthma. Guided by the social-ecological model, this study aimed to explore the links between asthma and school experiences in middle and high school as perceived by students with asthma. In-depth interviews were conducted with 20 adolescents with asthma aged 12 to 17 who attended middle or high school around the mid-west area of Florida. Students shared insights on their school experiences and academic performance. Data were analyzed and interpreted using thematic analysis. Four overarching and intertwined themes shaped the school experiences of students with asthma: 1. Asthma control and management; 2. Social support; 3. Asthma knowledge and awareness; and 4. Accommodation of health and academic needs. Study findings suggest addressing the school disparities of adolescent students with asthma through a comprehensive, multi-level approach. Schools should create asthma education opportunities, improve the school system and environmental accommodations, enhance asthma control, and increase continuous social support by peers and school personnel.

Introduction: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks are often the result of trauma or recent surgical procedures; however, a subset can develop from non-traumatic etiologies. Cerebrospinal fluid leaks from congenital and spontaneous encephaloceles can be clinically occult and have devastating consequences if undetected for prolonged periods of time. This report highlights a unique case of meningitis after CSF leak caused by ruptured congenital meningocele during a routine nasopharyngeal swab. Case Report: A 54-year-old female with diagnosed CSF leak presented to the emergency department (ED) with acute onset of severe headache, and neck and back pain. Prior to this presentation, the patient had experienced two months of persistent headache and rhinorrhea since her coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) nasopharyngeal swab. As part of her outpatient workup, an otolaryngology consultation with subsequent beta-2 transferrin testing and magnetic resonance imaging was performed and she was diagnosed with a CSF leak from ruptured congenital meningocele. On ED presentation, she was afebrile, but with mild tachycardia, leukocytosis, and meningismus. Lumbar puncture revealed acute streptococcal meningitis. This patient’s meningitis developed due to prolonged occult CSF leak after her COVID-19 nasopharyngeal swab ruptured a pre-existing congenital meningocele. Conclusion: Nasopharyngeal swabs are being performed much more frequently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All front-line providers should be aware of the potential presence and rupture of congenital meningoceles in patients who have undergone recent nasopharyngeal swab when risk-stratifying for potential CSF leak and meningitis.

The endocannabinoid system is expressed in cells throughout the body and controls a variety of physiological and pathophysiological functions. We describe robust and reproducible UPLC-MS/MS-based methods for analyzing metabolism of the endocannabinoids, 2-arachidonoyl-sn-glycerol and arachidonoyl ethanolamide, and related monoacylglycerols (MAGs) and fatty acid ethanolamides (FAEs), respectively, in mouse mucosal tissues (i.e., intestine and lung). These methods are optimized for analysis of activity of the MAG biosynthetic enzyme, diacylglycerol lipase (DGL), and MAG degradative enzymes, monoacylglycerol lipase (MGL) and alpha/beta hydrolase domain containing-6 (ABHD6). Moreover, we describe a novel UPLC-MS/MS-based method for analyzing activity of the FAE degradative enzyme, fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), that does not require use of radioactive substrates. In addition, we describe in vivo pharmacological methods to inhibit MAG biosynthesis selectively in the mouse small-intestinal epithelium. These methods will be useful for profiling endocannabinoid metabolism in rodent mucosal tissues in health and disease.

This study examined the impacts of internationalization-at-home efforts on intercultural interactions and outcomes for domestic graduate students through a Cultural Partner Program. Ninety-seven participants were recruited from a public research university in the southeastern part of the U.S. Among them, 68 participated in an experimental group in which each of them was paired up with an incoming graduate-level international student to conduct intercultural activities over one semester. All participants took pre- and post-test surveys including psychosocial measures such as wellbeing, intercultural competency, stress, and perceived support. The regression analyses found a significant conditional difference between experimental and control groups in well-being but not other variables. Standardized mean difference analyses revealed improvements present between the experimental group and control group in perceived support and interaction attentiveness and stress. University campuses need to allocate greater lengths of time and resources for graduate students to be a part of intercultural interactions on campus throughout their study.

Policy makers in California intend to provide free preschool to all 4-year-olds solely within public schools by 2026, becoming the nation's second largest single pre-K program in the United States after Head Start. This initiative builds on the state's existing Transitional Kindergarten (TK) option that has served a modest share of 4-year-olds since 2010. Tracing the historical growth in TK enrollments, we find that just 30, mostly urban school districts, enrolled two-fifths of all children served by 2020, responding to funding incentives and displaying stronger organizational capacity. Meanwhile, one-third of California's nearly one thousand districts enrolled fewer than 12 TK children. Black, white, and Asian children remained disproportionally under-enrolled as a share of their respective populations, as enrollments climbed past 90,000 children prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Identifying factors that may explain widely differing gains in TK enrollment, merging education and local census data, we find the suburbs began to catch-up with cities in serving additional 4-year-olds, as well as districts offering school choice (e.g., charter schools). We discuss implications for other nations attempting to rapidly expand preschool, including the inequities that may inadvertently arise.

This study investigates the effects of a synchronous online intervention that explicitly taught equivalent fractions using virtual manipulatives to fifth-grade students with learning disabilities. Employing a multiple probe across participants single-case design, this study provided 15 fraction lessons via video conferencing programs to three fifth-grade students with learning disabilities. During these online interventions, participants received one-on-one explicit instruction, practiced key concepts using virtual manipulatives, and solved fraction problems using interactive boards. Researcher-developed probes measured the participants' percentages of correct answers across baseline, intervention, and maintenance phases via an online assessment tool. In overall, students' performance improved as the intervention was introduced; however, the extent and maintenance of improvement varied according to the students' participation and perspectives regarding online instruction.

Teacher-family partnerships are crucial elements of high-quality early childhood education. The factors influencing these partnerships, particularly for children under age 3, are not well known. This study compares teachers' and mothers' perspectives on their partnership and the ideal practices they would like to see implemented. Additionally, it investigates child, family, and program-level factors predictive of partnership practices. Participants were mothers and teachers of 90 infants who completed the Real-Ideal Teacher-parents Partnership Scale; mothers rated child's temperament, and classroom quality was observed 6-months after infants entered childcare. Home environment was assessed before infants entered childcare. Both mothers and teachers reported a medium-high number of practices being implemented, but ideally, would like more practices to be implemented. The frequency of mother and teacher reports of real and ideal practices were significantly associated, although teacher reports were higher. Findings from the regression analyses showed that teacher level of education (having a Master) was uniquely and positively associated with both teachers' and mothers' reports of real partnership practices, and was significantly associated with teachers' reports of ideal partnership practices. Mothers' education level predicted their ideal partnership practices. Findings highlight the importance of teacher education for partnerships, especially considering the variability in legal requirements regarding qualifications for teaching infants across Europe.
