Objectives: To investigate the rate and outcome of emergency Cesarean delivery (CD) in women with placenta previa with or without placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PAS) and to elucidate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in predicting emergency CD. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of a multicenter prospective study involving 16 referral hospitals in Italy (ADoPAD study). Inclusion criteria were women with placenta previa minor (< 20 mm from the internal cervical os) or placenta previa major (covering the os), aged ≥ 18 years, who underwent transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound assessment at ≥ 26 + 0 weeks of gestation. The primary outcome was the occurrence of emergency CD, defined as the need for immediate surgical intervention performed for emergency maternal or fetal indication, including active labor, cumulative maternal bleeding > 500 mL, severe and persistent vaginal bleeding such that maternal hemodynamic stability could not be achieved or maintained, or category‐III fetal heart rate tracing unresponsive to resuscitative measures. The primary outcome was reported separately in the population of women with placenta previa and no PAS confirmed after birth and in those with PAS. The secondary aim was to report on the strength of association and to test the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in predicting emergency CD. Univariate, multivariate and diagnostic accuracy analyses were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 450 women, including 97 women with placenta previa and PAS and 353 with placenta previa only, were analyzed. In women with placenta previa and PAS, emergency CD was required in 20.6% (95% CI, 14–30%), and 60.0% (12/20) delivered before 34 weeks of gestation. The mean gestational age at delivery was 32.3 ± 2.7 weeks in women undergoing emergency CD and 34.9 ± 1.8 weeks in those undergoing elective CD (P < 0.001). Women undergoing emergency CD had a higher median estimated blood loss (2500 (interquartile range (IQR), 1350–4500) vs 1100 (IQR, 625–2500) mL; P = 0.012), mean units of blood transfused (7.3 ± 8.8 vs 2.5 ± 3.4; P = 0.02) and more frequent placement of a mechanical balloon (50.0% vs 16.9%; P = 0.002) compared with those undergoing elective CD. On univariate analysis, the presence of interrupted retroplacental space, interrupted bladder line and placental lacunae was more common in women not experiencing emergency CD. No comprehensive multivariate analysis could be performed in this subgroup of women. Ultrasound signs of PAS, including presence of interrupted retroplacental space, interrupted bladder line and placental lacunae, were not predictive of emergency CD. In women with placenta previa but no PAS, emergency CD was required in 31.2% (95% CI, 26.6–36.2%), and 32.7% (36/110) delivered before 34 weeks of gestation. The mean gestational age at delivery was lower in women undergoing emergency CD compared with those undergoing elective CD (34.2 ± 2.9 vs 36.7 ± 1.6 weeks; P < 0.001). Pregnancies complicated by emergency CD were associated with a lower birth weight (2330 ± 620 vs 2800 ± 480 g; P < 0.001) and had a higher risk of need for blood transfusion (22.7% vs 10.7%; P = 0.003) compared with those who underwent elective CD. On multivariate analysis, only placental thickness (odds ratio (OR), 1.02 (95% CI, 1.00–1.03); P = 0.046) and cervical length < 25 mm (OR, 3.89 (95% CI, 1.33–11.33); P = 0.01) were associated with emergency CD. However, a short cervical length showed low diagnostic accuracy for predicting emergency CD in these women. Conclusion: Emergency CD occurred in about 20% of women with placenta previa and PAS and 30% of those with placenta previa only and was associated with worse maternal outcome compared with elective intervention. During the last decade, the use of machine and deep learning tools to support 3D semantic segmentation of point clouds remarkably increased and their impressive results have led to the application of such methods to the semantic modeling of heritage buildings. Nevertheless, a standard procedure to deal with such problem is still missing, and several significant challenges, caused by the complexity of heritage building scenario, have still to be faced. This paper aims at comparing the overall performance of two convolutional neural network architectures, named SegNet and Deeplabv3+, for the semantic segmentation of heritage point clouds throughout a multiview approach. More specifically, the two architectures have been tested to obtain 2D segmentation maps of the related photogrammetric images of the buildings, and then the output maps have been projected to the photogrammetric point cloud by means of the interior and exterior camera parameters. Experiments to test the effectiveness of the proposed approach have been conducted on the case study of Spedale del Ceppo in Pistoia, Italy. Despite the results shown a remarkable performance of both the architectures, Deeplabv3+ outperformed SegNet in terms of accuracy, memory consumption and training time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Leaves of Lotus japonicus infected by powdery mildew accumulate isoflavonoids, especially vestitol and sativan as protective compounds, whereas their flavonol-glycosides or phenylpropanoic acids content were rather decreased. For a better understanding of the induction of phytoalexin production in L. japonicus, the influence of important signalling molecules, namely methyl jasmonate and salicylic acid, was tested by leaf application, up to 15 d. No effects after spraying the leaves with 0.5 mM salicylic acid were observed regarding the plant isoflavonoid content, whereas methyl jasmonate showed moderate effect on vestitol accumulation. Chitosan application led to a strong increase in vestitol content, sativan and vestitol derivative also increased. In a similar way to the effect of powdery mildew infection, the content of ferulic acid and kaempferol glycosides decreased, except for one compound, identified as kaempferol-6-deoxyhexose, that is the result of acetylation of kaempferol glycosides. The application of chitosan also led to an approximately 2.5- to 3.5-fold increase in hydrogen peroxide content, indicating the involvement of H2O2 in the chitosan signalling pathway. The activity of key enzyme of the phenolic biosynthesis, phenylalanine amonia lyase (PAL), was stimulated as well as the expression of 3 PAL-isogenes (LjPAL4, LjPAL6, and LjPAL9), whereas LjPAL8 decreased. Moreover, the expression of two key enzymes of vestitol and sativan biosythesis: pterocarpan reductase and isoflavone synthase were also strongly induced. The data suggest that chitosan acts as an elicitor of the fungal attack in Lotus japonicus that do not lead to a general stimulation of the metabolism of phenols, but rather to a specific induction of isoflavonoid-phytoalexine production, especially for production of vestitol. Objective: To evaluate the performance of third-trimester ultrasound for the diagnosis of clinically significant placenta accreta spectrum disorder (PAS) in women with low-lying placenta or placenta previa.Methods: This was a prospective multicenter study of pregnant women aged ≥ 18 years who were diagnosed with low-lying placenta (< 20 mm from the internal cervical os) or placenta previa (covering the internal cervical os) on ultrasound at ≥ 26 + 0 weeks' gestation, between October 2014 and January 2019. Ultrasound suspicion of PAS was raised in the presence of at least one of these signs on grayscale ultrasound: (1) obliteration of the hypoechogenic space between the uterus and the placenta; (2) interruption of the hyperechogenic interface between the uterine serosa and the bladder wall; (3) abnormal placental lacunae. Histopathological examinations were performed according to a predefined protocol, with pathologists blinded to the ultrasound findings. To assess the ability of ultrasound to detect clinically significant PAS, a composite outcome comprising the need for active management at delivery and histopathological confirmation of PAS was considered the reference standard. PAS was considered to be clinically significant if, in addition to histological confirmation, at least one of these procedures was carried out after delivery: use of hemostatic intrauterine balloon, compressive uterine suture, peripartum hysterectomy, uterine/hypogastric artery ligation or uterine artery embolization. The diagnostic performance of each ultrasound sign for clinically significant PAS was evaluated in all women and in the subgroup who had at least one previous Cesarean section and anterior placenta. Post-test probability was assessed using Fagan nomograms.Results: A total of 568 women underwent transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound examinations during the study period. Of these, 95 delivered in local hospitals, and placental pathology according to the study protocol was therefore not available. Among the 473 women for whom placental pathology was available, clinically significant PAS was diagnosed in 99 (21%), comprising 36 cases of placenta accreta, 19 of placenta increta and 44 of placenta percreta. The median gestational age at the time of ultrasound assessment was 31.4 (interquartile range, 28.6-34.4) weeks. A normal hypoechogenic space between the uterus and the placenta reduced the post-test probability of clinically significant PAS from 21% to 5% in women with low-lying placenta or placenta previa in the third trimester of pregnancy and from 62% to 9% in the subgroup with previous Cesarean section and anterior placenta. The absence of placental lacunae reduced the post-test probability of clinically significant PAS from 21% to 9% in women with low-lying placenta or placenta previa in the third trimester of pregnancy and from 62% to 36% in the subgroup with previous Cesarean section and anterior placenta. When abnormal placental lacunae were seen on ultrasound, the post-test probability of clinically significant PAS increased from 21% to 59% in the whole cohort and from 62% to 78% in the subgroup with previous Cesarean section and anterior placenta. An interrupted hyperechogenic interface between the uterine serosa and bladder wall increased the post-test probability for clinically significant PAS from 21% to 85% in women with low-lying placenta or placenta previa and from 62% to 88% in the subgroup with previous Cesarean section and anterior placenta. When all three sonographic markers were present, the post-test probability for clinically significant PAS increased from 21% to 89% in the whole cohort and from 62% to 92% in the subgroup with previous Cesarean section and anterior placenta.Conclusions: Grayscale ultrasound has good diagnostic performance to identify pregnancies at low risk of PAS in a high-risk population of women with low-lying placenta or placenta previa. Ultrasound may be safely used to guide management decisions and concentrate resources on patients with higher risk of clinically significant PAS. © 2022 The Authors. The aim of this study was to quantify the partial correlation coefficients ([r.sub.p]) between fat depot traits (FDT) and the fatty acid composition of abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue and LM intramuscular fat in 639 [F.sub.2] pigs derived from a White Duroc x Chinese Erhualian cross. Fat depot traits are classified into 2 groups: 1 is adipose tissues (abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue weight, mesenteric adipose tissue weight, perirenal adipose tissue weight, and backfat thickness at 4 locations); the other is LM [intramuscular fat content (IMF) and marbling score]. Correlations of FDT within classification groups were markedly greater (P < 0.001) than those observed between the 2 groups ([r.sub.p] = 0.62 vs. 0.26), indicating variability in fat content of muscle is relatively independent of amount of carcass fat. In general, fatter pigs had greater (P < 0.05) proportions of SFA and MUFA, and less PUFA, than leaner pigs. However, the relationships of individual fatty acids with FDT varied. We found that the amounts of some fatty acids regarded as neutral (e.g., stearic acid) or beneficial (e.g., palmitoleic acid and linolenic acid) for human health were associated with smaller amount of adipose tissues, or merely with greater IMF (P < 0.05). Therefore, we conclude that increasing the proportions of these neutral or healthy fatty acids can be achieved without reducing the IMF of LM, which is positively related to eating quality. In order to prevent nuclear proliferation, the isotopic analysis of uranium and plutonium microparticles has strengthened the means in international safeguards for detecting undeclared nuclear activities. In order to ensure accuracy and precision in the analytical methodologies used, the instrumental techniques need to be calibrated. The objective of this study was to produce and characterize particles consisting of U, Pu, and mixed U--Pu, suitable for such reliability verifications. A TSI vibrating orifice aerosol generator in connection with a furnace system was used to produce micrometer sized, monodispersed particles from reference U and Pu materials in solution. The particle masses (in the range of 3-6 pg) and sizes (~1.5 [micro]m) were controlled by the experimental conditions and the parameters for the aerosol generator. Size distributions were obtained from scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis confirmed that the particle composition agreed with the starting material used. A secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) was used to characterize the isotopic composition of the particles. Isobaric and polyatomic interference in the SIMS spectra was identified. In order to obtain accurate estimates of the interference, a batch of Pu particles were produced of mainly [sup.242]Pu. These were used for SIMS analysis to characterize the relative ionization of Pu and U hydride ions and to determine the SIMS useful yields of U and Pu. It was found that U had a higher propensity to form the hydride than Pu. Useful yields were determined at a mass resolution of 450 for U--Pu particles: (1.71 [+ or -] 0.15) % for Pu and (0.72 [+ or -] 0.06) % for U. For Pu particles: (1.65 [+ or -] 0.14) % for Pu. This gave a relative sensitivity factor between U and Pu ([RSF.sub.U:PU]) of 2.4 [+ or -] 0.2. During the last decade, the use of semantic models of 3D buildings and structures kept growing, fostered in particular by the spread of Building Information Models (BIMs), becoming quite popular in several civil engineering and geomatics applications. Nevertheless, semantic model production usually requires quite a lot of human interaction, which may result in quite long and annoying procedures for human operators. The production of 3D semantic models of buildings often takes advantage of already available 3D reconstructions of the considered objects. Given the ever increasing resolution of 3D reconstructions, obtained thanks to the recently developed laser scanners and photogrammetric software, the availability of tools for supporting the automatic or semi-automatic generation of semantic models represents a key step for easing and speeding up the process of semantic model production. In particular, the correct semantic interpretation of the different parts of a 3D point cloud, can be seen as the basic step for the production of a BIM model. The most frequently used methods for point cloud semantic segmentation can be separated in two categories: those directly segmenting the point clouds and those based on the ancillary semantic segmentation of images representing the object of interest, then transferring back the segmentation results to the point cloud. This work focuses on the latter method, considering more specifically the application of heritage building semantic segmentation. To be more specific, this paper investigates the semantic segmentation performance on a set of four heritage buildings, obtained first applying deep-learning based image semantic segmentation and then propagating back the semantic information to the point cloud by means of a voting strategy. The obtained results are quite encouraging, motivating future investigations on improvements of this strategy, in particular when including more buildings in the considered dataset. Radiolabeled agents that bind to specific receptors have shown great promise in diagnosing and characterizing tumor cell biology. In vivo imaging of gene transcription and protein expression represents an other area of interest. The radioisotope [.sup.125] I is commercially available as a label for molecular probes and utilized by researchers in small animal studies. We propose an advanced imaging detector based on planar NaI(Tl) integral assembly with a Hamamatsu Flat Panel Photomultiplier (MA-PMT) representing one of the best trade-offs between spatial resolution and detection efficiency. We characterized the imaging performances of this planar detector, in comparison with a gamma camera based on a pixellated scintillator. We also tested the in-vivo image capability by acquiring images of mice as a part of a study of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In this study, four 25g mice with an IBD-like phenotype (SAMP1/YitFc) were injected with 375, 125, 60 and 30 [mu]Ci of [.sup.125] I-labelled antibody against mucosal vascular addressin cell adhesion molecule (MAdCAM-1), which is up-regulated in the presence of inflammation. Two mice without bowel inflammation were injected with 150 and 60 [mu]Ci of the labeled anti-MAdCAM-1 antibody as controls. To better evaluate the performances of the integral assembly detector, we also acquired mice images with a dual modality (X and Gamma Ray) camera dedicated for small animal imaging. The results coming from this new detector are considerable: images of SAMP1/YitFc injected with 30 [mu]Ci activity show inflammation throughout the intestinal tract, with the disease very well defined at two hours post-injection.
