Since 2020 a detailed discussion about a BESSY~II successor is ongoing at HZB and its user community in order to define the science and layout of the new facility. Still free locations close to BESSY~II have triggered a discussion about a greenfield project, but in-house upgrade solutions have also been investigated. As an additional boundary condition, BESSY~III has to meet the requirement of the Physikalische Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) for radiation sources for metrology applications and bending magnet sources for tender X-rays. A Conceptional Design Report is in preparation. Tracy 3 ’ was implemented by the 3rd author by pursuing a first principles approach, aka Hamiltonian dynamics for an on-line modeel to guide the ALS and LBL comissioning in the early 1990s. with its origin as a Hamiltonian based pascal online model used 90 ’ is the core of today’s accelerator tool box. These Hamiltonians have not been changed. Soft- ware design has evolved since then: C++ and in particular its standardisation C++11 and C++2xa. In this paper we out- line our strategy of modernisation of tracy: reorganisation of the beam dynamics library in cleanly designed modules, using well proven open-source libraries (GSL, armadillo) and so on. Furthermore, Python and Matlab Interfaces based on modern tools are being pursued. We report on the in- terface design, the status of modernisation. Negative symptoms comprise anhedonia, avolition, and blunted affect. Although first described in schizophrenia, these symptoms share phenomenology with the depressive state. Pharmacological treatment has not been successful in reducing negative symptoms. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-pharmacological treatment option for moderate to severe depression. There have also been attempts to treat negative symptoms in both schizophrenia and depression with rTMS. Cardiovascular disease is common in schizophrenia and depression. Heart rate variability (HRV) is an established proxy for cardiac autonomic functioning and numerous studies have found lower HRV in patients with schizophrenia and depression. The impact of psychopharmacological treatment on HRV has been extensively studied and anticholinergic compounds have been found to decrease HRV. Lastly, since the most commonly used rTMS depression targets are also the brain regions involved in central autonomic regulation, there is reason to consider a potential effect of rTMS on HRV. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate negative symptoms, rTMS, and HRV in schizophrenia and depression. Study I was a validation study of a Swedish translation of the Clinical Assessment Interview for Negative Symptoms (CAINS). Thirty-four patients with schizophrenia were interviewed and it was concluded that the Swedish version of the CAINS exhibited acceptable psychometric properties. Study II was a double-blind randomized controlled trial of rTMS for negative symptoms in schizophrenia and depression. There was a significant decrease of negative symptoms in the depression group, but not in the schizophrenia group. There were no effects on overall depressive symptoms in either group. Study III assessed determinants of HRV in schizophrenia, depression, and healthy controls. The results indicated lower HRV in both patient groups, even after controlling for several factors, and also that anticholinergic burden impacted HRV. In Study IV, the relationship between HRV and the functional and structural connectivity of the anterior cingulate cortex was investigated in patients with schizophrenia and compared with that in healthy controls. It was found that connectivity with the cerebellum might play a role in the autonomic modulation network in patients with schizophrenia. Lastly, in Study V, the effect of a treatment course with rTMS on HRV was investigated in patients with depression, as well as HRV’s relationship to symptom change. No effects on HRV were detected, nor any correlations between HRV and symptom change. Further, baseline HRV could not predict treatment response.

The formula relevant for linear optics design of synchrotrons are derived systematically from first principles, i.e., an exercise in Hamiltonian dynamics. Equipped with these, the relevant use cases are then captured; for a streamlined approach. To enable professionals, i.e., software engineers, to efficiently prototype architect a CAD tool available to mechanical engineers since the mid-1960s. The design philosophy for a robust prototype lattice design for BESSY III, i.e., that is insensitive to small parameter changes, e.g. engineering tolerances - based on a higher-order-achromat, a la: SLS, NSLS-II, MAX IV, and SLS 2 - is outlined presented. Digital models have been developed over a long time for preparing accelerator commissioning next to benchmarking theory predictions to machine measurements. These digital models are nowadays being realized as digital shadows or digital twins. Accelerator commissioning requires periodic setup and review of the machine status. Furthermore, different measurements are only practical by comparison to the machine model (e.g. beam based alignment). In this paper we describe the architecture chosen for our models, describe the framework Bluesky for measurement orchestration and report on our experience exemplifying on dynamic aperture scans. BACKGROUND: Heart rate variability (HRV) has been found reduced in patients with schizophrenia and depression. However, there is a lack of knowledge on how demographic, lifestyle, and pharmacological factors contribute to the reduction in HRV in these patients. METHODS: We recruited 37 patients with schizophrenia, 43 patients with unipolar depression, and 64 healthy controls. A combined chest-worn HRV and accelerometer device was used in an ambulatory measurement. Age, sex, anticholinergic burden of medication, nicotine use, body mass index, and ongoing physical activity were assessed in multiple regression models regarding their influence on HRV, measured as the standard deviation of all the RR intervals (SDNN). RESULTS: In the fully adjusted model, schizophrenia (β = -0.23, P = 0.019), depression (β = -0.18, P = 0.028), age (β = -0.34, P < 0.000), ongoing physical activity (β = -0.23, P = 0.001), and anticholinergic burden (β = -0.19, P = 0.025) influenced SDNN negatively. Sex, nicotine use, and BMI had negligible effects on SDNN. CONCLUSIONS: We show for the first time that a quantified score of anticholinergic burden of medication has a negative relationship to HRV in patients with schizophrenia or depression, but that the diagnoses themselves still exhibit an effect on HRV.

HZB operates and develops two synchrotron radiation sources at Berlin Adlershof. The larger one, BESSY II with an energy of 1.7 GeV and 240 m circumference is optimized for soft-X rays and in operation since 1999. The smaller one is the MLS (Metrology Light Source), owned by the Physikalische Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) - Germany’s National Metrology Institute. It is designed to fulfill the special metrology needs of the PTB with an energy of 0.6 GeV and 48 m circumference, covering the spectral range from THz and IR to EUV/VUV. In 2020 a discussion process has been started to define the requirements for successors of BESSY II and MLS and to study the possibilities integrate them into a new photon science facility in Berlin Adlershof. The ALS Upgrade to a diffraction-limited soft x-ray storage ring calls for ultralow emittance in a very limited circumference. In this paper we report on progress with a lattice based on a 7BA with distributed chromatic correction. This lattice relies heavily on longitudinal gradient bends and reverse bending in order to suppress the emittance, so that, despite having only seven bends, ultralow emittance can be achieved in addition to large dynamic aperture and momentum acceptance. An initial alternate 7BA lattice has been revised to relax magnet requirements as well as further increase off-energy performance and resilience to machine imperfections. We now demonstrate ±2.5 mm dynamic aperture including errors and calculate the effect of IBS to show that this lattice achieves 6 hours Touschek lifetime (at 500 mA, including errors) and a brightness of roughly 3x10²¹ ph/s/mm²/mrad²/0.1%BW at 1 keV., Proceedings of the 10th Int. MAX-IV has introduced a paradigm shift in the design philosophy for the "Engineering-Science" in the quest for a diffraction limited Synchrotron Light Source. Similarly, SLS-2 has introduced a systematic method for controlling the Linear Optics beyond some 20 years of TME inspired paper designs; by introducing Reverse Bends to disentangle dispersion and focusing, which enables Longitudinal Gradient Bends to efficiently reduce the emittance. Similarly, we outline a systematic approach for how to control the Nonlinear Dynamics for these systems, by a method that was pioneered for the conceptual design of the Swiss Light Source in the mid-1990s; subsequently benchmarked and validated by the commissioning., Proceedings of the 9th Int. Generalized MBA (Multi-Bend-Achromat) Chasman-Green type lattices, with a low-dispersion mid-straight, have been studied and refined by pursuing a generalized Higher Order Achromat to control the non-linear dynamics to obtain a robust design. New candidate lattice have been produced aiming for a horizontal emittance of 150 pm×rad for off-axis injection and 75 pm×rad for on-axis, the latter making use of reverse bends. A fast new linear lattice characterization / correction method based on turn-by-turn (TbT) beam position monitor (BPM) data in storage rings has been recently developed and experimentally demonstrated at NSLS-II. This method performs least-square fitting iteratively on the 4 frequency components extracted from TbT data and dispersion functions. The fitting parameters include the errors for normal/skew quadrupole strength and 4 types of BPM errors (gain, roll, and deformation). The computation of the Jacobian matrix for this system is very fast as it utilizes analytical expressions derived from the resonance driving terms (RDT), from which the method name DTBLOC (Driving-Terms-Based Linear Optics Characterization/Correction) originates. The dichotomy can be resolved by introducing a scalar field/potential algebraically related to the Ricci tensor for which the corresponding metric is free of additional singularities. Hence, although a fundamentally nonlinear theory, the scalar field/potential provides an analytic framework for interacting particles; described by linear superposition. The stress tensor for the scalar field includes both the sources of and the energy-momentum for the gravitational field, and has zero covariant and ordinary divergence. Hence, the energy-momentum for the gravitational field and sources are conserved. The theory's predictions agree with the experimental results for General Relativity. By introducing the corresponding Lagrangian to analytic mechanics, what is experimentally known for GR can be accounted for.

The injector for the National Synchrotron Light Source II storage ring consists of a 3 GeV booster synchrotron and a 200 MeV S-band linac. The linac was designed to produce either a single bunch with a charge of 0.5 nC of electrons or a train of bunches up to 300 ns long containing a total charge of 15 nC. The booster was designed to accelerate up to 15 nC each cycle. Linac commissioning was completed in April 2012. Booster commissioning was started in November 2013 and completed in March 2014. All of the significant design goals were satisfied including beam emittance, energy spread, and transport efficiency. While the maximum booster charge accelerated was only 10 nC this has proven to be more than sufficient for storage ring commissioning. The injector has operated reliably during storage ring operation since then. Results will be presented showing measurements of injector operating parameters achieved during commissioning and initial operation. In this paper we describe our experience with commissioning of the first turns in the NSLS-II storage ring. UPPAAL is a tool for modeling, simulation and verification of real-time systems, developed jointly by BRICS at Aalborg University and the Department of Computer Systems at Uppsala University. The tool is appropriate for systems that can be modeled as a collection of non-deterministic processes with finite control structure and real-valued clocks, communicating through channels or shared variables. Typical application areas include real-time controllers and communication protocols, in particular those where timing aspects are critical. This paper reports on the currently available version and summarizes developments during the last two years. We report on new directions that extends UPPAAL with cost-optimal exploration, parametric modeling, stop-watches, probablistic modeling, hierachical modeling, executable timed automata, and a hybrid automata animator. We also report on recent work to improve the efficiency of the tool. In particular, we outline Clock Difference Diagrams (CDDs), new compact representations of states, a distributed version of the tool, and application of dynamic partitioning. UPPAAL has been applied in a number of academic and industrial case studies. We describe a selection of the recent case studies.

Today’s competitive global market has placed companies under great pressure and the focus on production systems has been more prominent. Although there are several claimed benefits with using frameworks in the development of production systems, companies are reluctant to use these. Consequently, a relevant question formulation is: Are frameworks in the development of production systems usable? The purpose with this thesis work was therefore to evaluate the usability of production system development frameworks (PSDFs) in practice. In order to achieve this purpose, two research questions were established: RQ1. How can usability of frameworks be evaluated? RQ2. How does the use of a framework contribute to the development of a new production system? In order to answer the posed research questions, Bellgran and Säfsten’s PSDF was used in the production system development (PSD) process of a new production system at Xylem. Based on the PSD process, a meta-study was performed to evaluate the practical usability of the PSDF. Usability was defined and evaluated based on the five usability terms learnability, memorability, efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction. The result showed that all the five usability terms contribute to the usability evaluation of PSDFs. However, memorability was considered difficult to use on only one study since the user has to think a step further and make a qualified guess to answer if it is possible to memorize a framework. Therefore, it was considered memorability is only appropriate to use in a multiple study. The results also showed that Bellgran and Säfsten’s PSDF contributed most in the beginning of the PSD process by putting emphasis on the planning phase and providing a structure to follow. Due to the nature of a framework (i.e., to serve as a guide for structures to follow), this was not unexpected. However, the contributions from a structure or plan are hard to exactly distinguish. Since companies most often want tangible and accurate evidences, frameworks’ vague contributions are considered to be a major reason to why companies do not use frameworks more frequently.

In this paper we present the reminiscence process in a prototype memory support tool for persons with mild dementia. The purpose is to promote autonomy for persons with mild dementia by supporting actualization and maintenance of episodic memories, and real-time access to a context-annotated life log. The main research challenges are defined with a user scenario, Suitable reminiscence methods and memory entitities to reperesent life logs are described, and a preliminary architecture is presented. Finally an early design of a concrete ReviewClient is shown, to solicit feedback on the reminiscence methods, entitites chosen, architecture and the usability of the proposed interface. There is no debate over the importance of IT security. Equally important is the research on security assessment; methods for evaluating the security of IT systems. The Swedish Defense Research Agency has for the last couple of years been conducting research on the area of security assessment. To verify the correctness of these methods, tools are implemented. This thesis presents the design and implementation of an environment to support and aid future implementations and evaluations of security assessment methods. The aim of this environment, known as the New Tool Environment, NTE, is to assist the developer by facilitating the more time consuming parts of the implementation. A large part of this thesis is devoted to the development of a database solution, which results in an object/relational data access layer.

Objective: To develop a successful user-validated cognitive prosthetic device with associated services to help persons with mild dementia. Setting: The ICT solution will be developed by a consortium of eleven institutes in eight countries in Europe. It will be tested and evaluated by users (persons with dementia and their carers) in 3 European cities - Amsterdam, Belfast and Luleå. Methods: To identify and analyse the needs of persons with dementia, workshops and interviews were conducted with Alzheimer patients suffering from mild dementia, and their carers in three European cities. A literature search was also performed to identify existing proven effective ICT solutions for persons with dementia. Results: The most important needs and the most preferred ICT solutions identified by participants were (i) Activity reminders e.g. for eating meals; (ii) Item locators; (iii) Picture dialling to keep in contact with family and friends; (iv) Support for pleasure activities; (v) Enhancement of feelings of safety. Conclusion: Based on the needs identified, a prototype solution will be built, tested and modified as an iterative process. The device will ultimately be evaluated to see if it can enhance feelings of autonomy and quality of life of persons with dementia.

Context. This thesis takes an opportunity perspective. Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFID) has showed potential in enhancing and optimizing supply chains. For Pan Nordic Logistics (PNL), this represents an interesting opportunity and a possibility to enhance goods flow, increase quality, and gain competitive advantage. The study. This study has looked at how RFID could benefit PNL. A number of opportunities have been identified. Of these opportunities, the ‘Hub’ in Jönköping has been analyzed in further detail. The current logistics process has been mapped out in order to determine where in the logistics process the technology could have the optimal impact. Since it is not possible to perform a full financial evaluation without benchmarking and measuring the effects of RFID, a framework have been provided for future measurement, evaluation, and implementation. Findings and recommendations. This study concludes that an RFID implementation at the ‘Hub’ in Jönköping is ‘most likely’ to be financially feasible. RFID is a promising technology that should be taken to the next level. A small-scale implementation is recommended in order to ‘try out’ the technology and to fully evaluate how it could be adapted to fit existing solutions of PNL such as computer systems. If implemented, this trial should serve to map out the financial side of the technology using the provided framework. It is currently neither possible, nor feasible to fully understand the financial impact of the technology. Such a forecast would be imprecise and possible misleading.

This thesis aims at describing the CIO role from the perspective of two interviews and the literature on the subject. Our research questions mainly focus on the actual work of a CIO and are answered by providing a framework on how to view the CIO and the influence of the CIO. Influence meaning both on business and IT strategy. We have answered what the CIO role implies and how it is used in different organizations. To do this we have scanned current literature and also conducted two interviews with CIO’s from completely different organizations and resources. A framework for understanding how the IT strategy and business strategy is linked with the CIO as a resource has been created and our interview findings are presented in this framework. We have also found that the CIO with little involvement in overall business strategy decisions has less influence on the IT strategy. This is ex-plained by the nature of the organization and the view of IT. A CIO’s primary function could be to strategically align IT with business or to make sure that the IT systems runs flawless. These can be viewed as counterpoints but since the role today is changing from being operative to working more with strategic questions it is not a strange finding. The influence a CIO has in business strategy questions ranges from none to a lot, based on how the CIO role is defined by the organization. This is also well in line with the view of IT. When viewing IT as something that has the possibility to gain competitive advantage, IT gain more credibility, hence the CIO gains more influence on business strategy decisions. We also found that the CIO not only has the overall responsibility of IT in the organization, but also that s/he is supposed to work with questions of concern to the business. This forces the CIO to have an understanding of the end-customer, which in itself creates a better understanding for the business strategy. The CIO should work with questions that not only meet the current demand of the organization they support, but also future needs and potential opportunities where IT can be of specific interest.

The purpose of the project was to develop the hardware to a microwave wireless system working at the frequency 2.45 GHz. The functionality of the system should also be easy to understand since the system is to be used in an educational purpose. Much time has been spent impedance matching components, a task that proved to be harder than we expected. Other work that has been is layout of all parts, filter construction and the writing of an easy to understand thesis. After the parts had been completed, they were tested in a network analyzer and/or spectrum analyzer. Successful full system test has been done up to 400 meters, the length the system is to be used for.
