This study was carried out to investigate fruit yield and quality characteristics among new nectarine cultivars grown in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey. 'Gardeta', 'Gartario', and 'Garofa' nectarine cultivars were cultivated on 'GN15' rootstock. The flowering stage, fruit set percentage, yield, and fruit quality properties of these cultivars were investigated between 2018 and 2021. During the study, chill requirements ranged between 391 and 600 chilling hours and between 207 and 361 chill units in the area, and huge values were obtained for the average initial fruit set above 60% and the final fruit set above 45%. 'Gardeta' had the highest cumulative yield per tree (80.15 kg tree-1) and cumulative yield per hectare (133.04 tons ha-1). The fruit size, Total Soluble Solids (TSS) content, and fruit coloration were homogeneously distributed in all three cultivars. In addition, the Flowering (F) and Initial Fruit Set (IFS) characters were negatively correlated with Fruit Weight (FW), Fruit Length (FLE), and Fruit Diameter (FD). As a result, the 'Gardeta' was found remarkable with late flowering, the highest yield, and superior fruit quality characteristics such as size, red skin color, and high TSS/total acidity values in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey. In addition, the date of Full Flowering (FF) and Fruit Firmness (FF) were negatively correlated with fruit Skin color L* (SL), C (SC), and h° (SH) variables. The results demonstrated that the new nectarine cultivars used here showed changes in yield parameters and fruit quality attributes depending on the genotypic and environmental effects. The purpose of this paper is to propose the quasi-linear theory of tsunami run-up and run-down on a beach with complex bottom topography. We begin with the one-dimensional nonlinear shallow-water wave equations, which we consider over a beach of complex geometry that can be modeled by a piecewise continuous function, along with several natural initial and boundary conditions. The primary obstacle in solving this problem is the moving boundary associated with the shoreline motion. To avoid this difficulty, we replace the moving boundary with a stationary boundary by applying a transformation to the spatial variable of the computational domain. A characteristic feature of any tsunami problem is the smallness of the parameter ε=η0/h0, where η0 is the characteristic amplitude of the wave, and h0 is the characteristic depth of the ocean. The presence of this small parameter enables us to effectively linearize the problem by using the method of perturbations, which leads to an analytical solution via an integral transformation. This analytical solution assumes that there is no wave breaking. In light of this assumption, we introduce the wave no-breaking criterion and determine bounds for the applicability of our theory. The proposed model can be readily used to investigate the tsunami run-up and draw-down for different sea bottom profiles. The novel particular solution, when the seafloor is described by the piecewise linear function, is obtained, and the effects of the different beach profiles and initial wave locations are considered.

Selecting within local pomegranate accessions is the main method used to identify new cultivars. Total of 76 pomegranate accessions from Hatay, Turkey, were collected and their morpho-pomological and chemical characteristics were determined. The results showed that there was significant diversity among the accessions in terms of fruit quality parameters. Several accessions were notable for their various characteristics. For example, 'Eksi 5', 'Eksiliknar', 'Kara Mehmet 1', 'Lifani 5' and 'Eksi 3' accessions could be used for extracted aril and juice as they had dark red arils and juice, good taste, and large arils. In addition, the sweet accessions 'Tatlı 3', 'Tatlı 13', and 'Tatlı 16' with soft seeds, rosy peel, and red aril colors were very promising for fresh consumption. Our study demonstrated that there was great morpho-pomological variability among the local pomegranates grown in eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey, making them a valuable genetic source for incorporation into potential breeding programs, especially for different fruit quality characteristics. Abstract: The Anatolian region of Turkey with many ecogeographical locations harbours a rich but genetically uncharacterized plum germplasm. In this study, the genetic diversity in economically important green plums (Prunus cerasifera) grown in the Mediterranean region of Turkey was assessed using the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis. Overall, a relatively low genetic diversity with AFLP genetic similarity values ranging from 0.829 to 0.985 was found among the accessions studied. However, the majority of green plum genotypes derived from an ecologically distinct location within the Mediterranean region were more diverse genetically than those from other locations. In an effort to further characterize this germplasm, the same accessions were analyzed for a number of fruit quality traits. Overall, the results presented here provide useful information about the level of genetic diversity present among the previously uncharacterized plum accessions and identify germplasm that could be potentially superior to the currently cultivated plum genotypes in this plum growing region of Turkey. Mononuclear phosphinite Iridium complexes based on ferrocene group have been prepared and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The complexes were subjected to cyclic voltammetry studies in order to determine the energies of HOMO and LUMO levels and to estimate their electrochemical and some electronic properties. Organic complex-based memory substrates were immobilized using TiO 2 -modified ITO electrodes, and the memory functions of phosphinite-based organic complexes were verified by chronoamperometry (CA) and open-circuit potential amperometry (OCPA). Extensive theoretical and experimental investigations were directed to gain a more profound understanding of the chemical descriptors and the diverse electronic transitions taking place within the iridium complexes, as well as their electrochemical characteristics. The quantum chemical calculations were carried out for the iridium complexes at the DFT/CAM-B3LYP level of theory in the gas phase. Furthermore, the antioxidant, antimicrobial, DNA binding, and DNA cleavage activities of the complexes were tested. Complex 2 exhibited the highest radical scavenging activity (67.5 ± 2.24 %) at 200.0 mg/L concentration. It was observed that the complexes formed an inhibition zone in the range of 8-15 mm against Gram + bacteria and in the range of 0-13 mm against Gram - bacteria. The agarose gel electrophoresis method was used to determine the DNA binding and DNA cleavage activities of the complexes. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of locally and systemically delivered single-dose corticosteroid injections on bone tissue., Study Design: A total of 84 Wistar albino rats were divided into 2 groups as local and systemic injection groups, and 2 groups as control and experiment among themselves. Before the procedure, dexamethasone was given to the experimental group and physiological saline was given to the control group. A defect was created in the jawbone. It was sacrificed on the third, seventh, and 40th days. The mandible bones of the sacrificed rats were removed and the healing of the bone tissue was examined histopathologically., Results: No significant difference was observed in the tissue sections of the subjects sacrificed after 40 days. However, the increase in fibroblastic connective tissue and the number of osteoblasts were less in the experimental local groups that were sacrificed after 7 days compared with the control groups (P=0.040 and 0.041). Again, it was determined that there was a statistically significant decrease in the experimental local group compared with the experimental systemic group (P=0.040 and 0.004)., Conclusions: It can be said that single-dose corticosteroid applications cause a delay in bone healing in the early period., Competing Interests: The authors report no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2024 by Mutaz B. Radicular cysts are characterized by significant levels of changes in inflammatory biomarkers. Among them, interleukins and growth factors have been reported to be deregulated in radicular cyst tissues. Moreover, long non-coding RNAs are recently discovered non-coding RNA molecules that regulate various intracellular stimuli to keep homeostasis in balance. A growing body of evidence suggests that lncRNAs are significantly involved in the regulation of inflammation by targeting various inflammatory biomarkers. Accordingly, the present study was aimed to investigate the gene expression levels of inflammation-related lncRNAs in radicular cysts and show their possible roles in the development of radicular cysts. For the study, a total of 25 patients with a radiologically and pathologically confirmed radicular cyst were enrolled. For the determination of non-coding RNA expression levels, real-time qPCR was used. As a result of the current study, expression levels of PACER and THRIL were found to be significantly elevated in radicular cyst tissues compared to control tissue samples. However, MALAT1, ANRIL, and NEAT1 expression levels were not significantly altered in radicular cyst tissues compared to control tissue samples. Background: Keratosis pilaris is a common keratinization disorder of the extensor surfaces of the proximal extremities. Various treatment modalities reduce symptoms, but their efficacy is limited., Aims: The aim of this study is to compare the efficiency of Q-Switched Nd: YAG laser and fractional Er: YAG laser., Material/method: The lesions in both arms were randomly divided into areas A and B. Fractional Er: YAG 2940 nm laser performed to area A 1.5 J/cm 2 , spot size 7 mm, frequency 3 Hz and three passes and Q-Switched Nd: YAG 1064 nm laser performed to Area B, 4-6 J/cm 2 spot size 4 mm, 8 Hz frequency, and as a single pass. Both lasers were performed in 4 sessions at 3-week intervals. The global improvement scale evaluated treatment responses in dyspigmentation and skin texture., Results: Twenty patients completed the study, and the mean age of a total of 20 patients was 22.9. There was no significant difference in dyspigmentation and skin texture with global improvement scale between Area A and Area B, respectively (p = 0.078, p = 0.638). In addition, there was no significant difference between patient satisfaction levels after treatment in Area A and Area B (p = 0.868)., Conclusion: The efficiency of the fractional Er: YAG 2940 nm laser was found equal to the Q-switched Nd: YAG 1064 nm laser. In order to optimize biofuel (including bioethanol) production processes, various problems need to be solved, such as increasing the sugar content of raw materials/biomass to gain a higher yield of the product. This task can be solved in several ways, with their own advantages and disadvantages, and an integrated approach, such as using a combination of ripening agents and phytohormones or application of a superabsorbent polymer with at least one sugar-enhancing agent, can be applied as well. Here, we reviewed several methods, including pre- and postharvest factors (light, temperature, partial replacement of potassium with magnesium, etc.), genetic modifications (traditional breeding, phytohormones, etc.), chemical ripening methods (Ethephon, Moddus, etc.), and some alternative methods (DMSO treatment, ionic liquids, etc.). The aim of this review was to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date summary of methods of increasing the carbohydrate level in plants/biomass for bioethanol production.

The subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) is a distinct subtype of lupus erythematosus (LE) representing specific clinical and serological features. Almost 20%-30% of the cases with SCLE are predicted to associated with medications. Thiazide diuretics, terbinafine, antiepileptic, and proton pump inhibitors are the best-known drugs to induce drug-related SCLE. Herein we want to present a 65-year-old female with alendronate induced SCLE, resistant to classical therapies, and respond well to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), suggesting that IVIG could be an alternative treatment in patients resistant to classical treatment protocols., (© 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Since the COVID-19 infection first appeared in December 2019, patient profile of outpatient and inpatient clinics has changed. Various cutaneous findings associated with COVID-19 have been reported in the literature. The main objective of this study was to describe and analyze the profile of the consultations requested from dermatology department during the COVID pandemic. Retrospective, cohort study. In this study, we observed the dermatology consultations of the hospitalized patients over a period of 2 months, corresponding to the peak of COVID outbreak in a tertiary care hospital in Turkey. We reviewed the inpatient dermatology consult database retrospectively. Both pediatric and adult dermatology inpatient consultations were evaluated. A total of 166 inpatient dermatology consultations were requested from dermatology department during March-May, 2020. The mean age of the patients was 53.12 (1-89) years. Almost 32.5% (n = 54) of dermatology consultations were requested from the COVID wards and the COVID intensive care unit. The second most common consultations were requested from internal medicine departments (n = 46, 27.7%). The most common indications for the consultations were cutaneous infections (36%), followed by inflammatory disorders (32%), and urticaria (11%). Dermatology consultations have an essential role on the management of hospitalized patients, especially at that pandemic time. Careful dermatological examination improves diagnostic accuracy in skin disorders and skin manifestations of COVID-19 infection that provides an early diagnosis and treatment, helps to improve the quality of the patient care and management., (© 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

In this research, sea surface temperature (SST) variability for the summer season in the Aegean Sea was analysed over a period of 30 years by using the Landsat thermal infrared bands. A total of 88 Landsat 5, 7, and 8 thermal infrared satellite images from June, July, and August were used for each year from 1989 to 2019. To estimate SST from the thermal infrared band data, thermal infrared sensor at-sensor spectral radiance, and thermal infrared sensor top-of-atmosphere brightness temperatures were used. SST pixel values were extracted from thermal images for the 3-month summer season of each year. In order to validate the findings, regression analysis was performed between the Mediterranean Sea Ultra High Resolution SST L4 data and Landsat data for the 2008-2019 period. Regression constant R-squared values were found to be 0.9672 for June, 0.9550 for July, 0.9634 for August, and 0.9634 for all summer seasons. It was calculated that the minimum value of the average SST was 18.44 ± 2.87 °C in 1992, and the maximum value of the average SST was 23.45 ± 0.70 °C in 2018. According to the Landsat data, over the past 30 years, the annual average SST changes were estimated to be 0.11 °C, and the total changes of average SST were estimated to be 3.19 ± 1.26 °C. As a result of the analysis and the validation, we can see that there is a rising trend in sea surface temperature in the Aegean Sea. However, it is difficult to determine whether this upward trend is related to global climate change.

Skin problems following rhinoplasty may cause dissatisfaction concerning the esthetic expectations of the patients. This study was conducted to determine whether nasal skin type has an effect on skin problems after rhinoplasty. Thirty-five patients undergoing rhinoplasty in our tertiary referral center between May 2018 and August 2019 were included in the study. The nasal skin sebum level was measured with Sebumeter preoperatively and patients were divided into two groups according to the median sebum level. Among the 35 patients, half of them with higher nasal skin sebum were categorized as oily skin group ( n  = 17; 14 males, 3 females; mean sebum level: 200.3 ± 26.9), and the other half were categorized as dry skin group ( n  = 18; 10 males, 8 females; mean sebum level: 101.9 ± 38). Periorbital edema and ecchymosis were assessed at postoperative days 1, 3, and 7. Acne and seborrhea severity determined with Global Acne Grading System and Seborrheic Dermatitis Area Severity Index the day before operation and postoperative days 7 and 14 and months 1, 3, and 10. Compared with dry skin group, upper eyelid ecchymosis score at postoperative day 7 was statistically higher in oily skin group ( p  = 0.044). There was no significant difference in upper eyelid edema scores between postoperative days 1 and 3 for oily skin group ( p  = 0.020). No statistically significant differences were found for acne and seborrhea severity. Nasal skin sebum levels may affect periorbital edema and ecchymosis after the procedure but no significant effect has been observed for acne and seborrhea.
