Aim of the study was to evaluate type of anemia in patients with gastric lymphoma. Anemia in patients with gastric lymphoma can be caused by iron deficiency, infiltration of bone marrow with malignant cells of lymphoma or effect of chronic disease. Group of 40 patients with gastric lymphoma (MALT, DLBCL lymphoma and other type) was analyzed. There was statistically significant difference between grades of anemia in patients with MALT lymphoma comparing to patents with DLBCL lymphoma. Conclusion: Anemia in patients with gastric lymphoma is multifactorial due to iron deficiency, presence of chronic disease and infiltration of bone marrow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is among the most common malignancies in Europe and the United States. Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a heterogeneous group of diseases with different clinical, immunophenotype, cytogenetic and molecular characteristics which may have prognostic and predictive significance. DLBCL prognostic factors include first of all the clinical features that are included in widely accepted international prognostic index (IPI), which includes: age, level of LDH-P, clinical stage, performance status and extranodal involvement. Value of IPI was confirmed by the large number of patients in the extensive international studies. The study is retrospective and prospective. The study included 60 patients with the diagnosis of de novo DLBCL. The age of patients was between 18-72 years, average age was 45 years. Primary objective: the primary outcome was followed and analysed: complete remission (complete remission) in the first line of therapy (CR1) and total three-year survival (overall survival - OS). Patients were analysed with standard diagnostic procedures: medical history and physical examination. Laboratory tests were used, LDH-P, proteins, beta 2microglobu-lin, hepatitis markers, serology for EBV and HIV. Among analyzed patients 78.3% achieved CR1 and 20% of deaths related to DLBCL. Significant difference was proved for the three-year survival in the total patient sample N = 60 for DLBCL: IPI (0-1,2:3,4) p <0.014, according to ECOG performance status scale (0-2:3.4) p = 0.008, clinical stage (I / II: III / IV), p <0.012, P-LDH level (normal: high) p = 0.002 X 2. Using multiple regression analysis clinical, immunohistochemical and apoptotic factors in 60 DLBCL patients was related with the achievement of the prognosed three-year survival and analysis confirmed a significant effect of LDH-P level, significance p = 0.03. (95% CI, hazard ratio 63%). Following methods of analytical statistics were used: X 2 test, Cox and Kaplan-Meier analysis, as a part of a multiple regression analysis. P values <0.05 were considered as significant. This study confirmed the prognostic significance of clinical characteristics of patients with DLBCL. Introduction: European Treatment and Outcomes Study (EUTOS) score divides patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) into low and high risk groups. Aim: to reevaluate predictor significance of EUTOS score in relation to achieving event free survival (EFS): acceleration/blast transformation or death, major molecular response (MMR) and 10-year overall survival of CML Ph+. Material and methods: this was a retrospective study, following CML Ph+ patients in the period from 2001 to 2014. The study involved 48 patients aged 18 to 60 years, mean age 44.6 years, of which 26 (54%) males and 22 females (46%). There were 24 patients in a low risk group and 24 in a high risk group, who were treated with Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) in the first, second and third line of therapy. Results: it was confirmed that MMR response at 3 to 6 months depends of EUTOS score (low vs. high) 64.3% vs 20% p=0.014; and at 18 months 66.7% vs 20%, p=0.013. Median survival in the low score group was 134.5 months, specifically 95% CI (110.5-158.6), which was longer than in the high score group in which median survival was 102.7 months or 95% CI (79.4-126). Survival rate differences without EFS in the low and high risk groups of EUTOS score were dependent χ²=4.463, p=0.035. Difference in survival according to EUTOS score was not statistically significant χ²=2.49, p=0.114. Conclusion: EUTOS score was not predictive for outcome in 10 years overall survival, but had predictive achieving EFS, value in MMR at 3 to 6 months and at 18 months. Diabetes mellitus is a major independent risk factor and powerful accelerator of atherosclerotic stenotic-occlusive disease. Stenotic-occlusive disease of the arteries of the lower extremities is one of the most common complications of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of multiple risk factors (MRF) and relationship between MRF score with the development of ischemic lesions in patients with atherosclerotic stenotic-occlusive disease of the lower extremities and diabetes mellitus type 2. We included a total of 146 patients, 102 males (69.9%) and 44 females (30.1%), range of 40-67 years. Following data were collected: medical history, physical exam, laboratory data and MRF score. We underwent Color Doppler exam of the lower extremity arteries, DSA angiography or/ and CT-angiography. Patients were divided into subgroups: macrovascular diabetic angiopathy and non-diabetic atherosclerotic disease. Fontaine stage III disease were present in 39% patients. In the study group (n=85), there were 8 patients with 2 MRF (10%), 28 patients with 3 MRF (33%), 28 patients with 4 MRF (33%), and 20 patients with 5 MRF (24%). Out of this patients (Fontaine stage III) we had 16 patients with 4 multiple risk factors. In the control group (n=61) the largest group was the group in Fontaine stage III, with 4 MRF. In the study group MRF score was =5.95, and in the control group MRF score was =4.05, p<0.05. Conclusion: The results suggest that the multiple risk factors in Fontaine stage III disease were the most common, and that patients in this stage of the disease were at high risk of cardiovascular events. In this study we found that in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, MRF score was significantly higher and there were larger number of patients in Fontaine stage III, i.e. ischemic stage of disease. Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) is a genetically and clinically variable disorder. Previous attempts to use gene expression changes to find its pathomechanism were unavailing, so we engaged a functional pathway analysis. RNA-Seq was performed on cells from 10 patients diagnosed with an EDMD spectrum disease with different mutations in seven genes. Upon comparing to controls, the pathway analysis revealed that multiple genes involved in fibrosis, metabolism, myogenic signaling and splicing were affected in all patients. Splice variant analysis revealed alterations of muscle-specific variants for several important muscle genes. Deeper analysis of metabolic pathways revealed a reduction in glycolytic and oxidative metabolism and reduced numbers of mitochondria across a larger set of 14 EDMD spectrum patients and 7 controls. Intriguingly, the gene expression signatures segregated the patients into three subgroups whose distinctions could potentially relate to differences in clinical presentation. Finally, differential expression analysis of miRNAs changing in the patients similarly highlighted fibrosis, metabolism and myogenic signaling pathways. This pathway approach revealed a transcriptome profile that can both be used as a template for establishing a biomarker panel for EDMD and direct further investigation into its pathomechanism. Furthermore, the segregation of specific gene changes into distinct groups that appear to correlate with clinical presentation may template development of prognostic biomarkers, though this will first require their testing in a wider set of patients with more clinical information., (© The Author(s) 2022. Here, we report the outcome of 226 myeloma patients presenting with extramedullary plasmacytoma or paraosseous involvement in a retrospective study conducted in 19 centers from 11 countries. Extramedullary disease was detected at diagnosis or relapse between January 2010 and November 2017. Extramedullary plasmacytoma and paraosseous involvement were observed in 130 patients at diagnosis (92 of 38) and in 96 at relapse (84 of 12). The median time from multiple myeloma diagnosis to the development of extramedullary disease was 25.1 months (range 3.1-106.3 months) in the relapse group (median follow up: 15 months). Imaging approach for extramedullary disease was computed tomography (n=133), positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (n=50), or magnetic resonance imaging (n=35). The entire group received a median two lines of treatment and autologous stem cell transplantation (44%) following the diagnosis of extramedullary disease. Complete response was higher for paraosseous involvement versus extramedullary plasmacytoma at diagnosis (34.2% vs 19.3%; P =NS.) and relapse (54.5% vs 9%; P =0.001). Also paraosseous involvement patients had a better progression-free survival (PFS) when recognized at initial diagnosis of myeloma than at relapse (51.7 vs 38.9 months). In addition, overall survival was better for paraosseous involvement compared to extramedullary plasmacytoma at diagnosis (not reached vs 46.5 months).Extramedullary plasmacytoma at relapse had the worst prognosis with a PFS of 9.1 months and overall survival of 11.4 months. In the multivariate analysis, paraosseous involvement, extramedullary disease at diagnosis, International Staging System (ISS-I), and undergoing autologous stem cell transplantation improved overall survival independently. This cohort demonstrated that extramedullary disease benefits from front-line autologous stem cell transplantation and extramedullary plasmacytoma differs from paraosseous involvement in terms of rate and duration of response, with even worse outcomes when detected at relapse, constituting an unmet clinical need., (Copyright© 2020 Ferrata Storti Foundation.)
