Novel effects induced by nonmagnetic impurities in frustrated magnets and quantum spin liquid represent a highly nontrivial and interesting problem. A theoretical proposal of extended modulated spin structures induced by doping of such magnets, distinct from the well-known skyrmions has attracted significant interest. Here, we demonstrate that nonmagnetic impurities can produce such extended spin structures in h-YMnO3, a triangular antiferromagnet with noncollinear magnetic order. Using inelastic neutron scattering (INS), we measured the full dynamical structure factor in Al-doped h-YMnO3 and confirmed the presence of magnon damping with a clear momentum dependence. Our theoretical calculations can reproduce the key features of the INS data, supporting the formation of the proposed spin textures. As such, our study provides the first experimental confirmation of the impurity-induced spin textures. CeCd$_3$As$_3$ is a rare-earth triangular-lattice antiferromagnet with large inter-layer separation. Our field-dependent heat capacity measurements at dilution fridge temperatures allow us to trace the field-evolution of the spin-excitation gaps throughout the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic regions. The distinct gap evolution places strong constraints on the microscopic pseudo-spin model, which, in return, yields a close {\it quantitative} description of the gap behavior. The description of quantized collective excitations stands as a landmark in the quantum theory of condensed matter. A prominent example occurs in conventional magnets, which support bosonic magnons - quantized harmonic fluctuations of the ordered spins. In striking contrast is the recent discovery that strongly spin-orbital coupled magnets, such as $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$, may display a broad excitation continuum inconsistent with conventional magnons. Due to incomplete knowledge of the underlying interactions unraveling the nature of this continuum remains challenging. The most discussed explanation refers to a coherent continuum of fractional excitations analogous to the celebrated Kitaev spin liquid. Here we present a more general scenario. We propose that the observed continuum represents incoherent excitations originating from strong magnetic anharmoniticity that naturally occurs in such materials. We demonstrate that interactions can substantially undermine the free-particle description of magnons in ferromagnets on geometrically frustrated lattices. The anharmonic coupling, facilitated by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, and a highly-degenerate two-magnon continuum yield a strong, non-perturbative damping of the high-energy magnon modes. Magnons and phonons are fundamental quasiparticles in a solid and can be coupled together to form a hybrid quasi-particle. However, detailed experimental studies on the underlying Hamiltonian of this particle are rare for actual materials. Moreover, the anharmonicity of such magnetoelastic excitations remains largely unexplored, although it is essential for a proper understanding of their diverse thermodynamic behaviour and intrinsic zero-temperature decay. Here we show that in non-collinear antiferromagnets, a strong magnon–phonon coupling can significantly enhance the anharmonicity, resulting in the creation of magnetoelastic excitations and their spontaneous decay. By measuring the spin waves over the full Brillouin zone and carrying out anharmonic spin wave calculations using a Hamiltonian with an explicit magnon–phonon coupling, we have identified a hybrid magnetoelastic mode in (Y,Lu)MnO3 and quantified its decay rate and the exchange-striction coupling term required to produce it., The properties of magnetic, crystalline solids can be described in terms of quantum particles of spin-wave and lattice-vibration energy, known as magnons and phonons respectively. We investigate field-induced transformations in the dynamical response of the $XXZ$ model on the triangular lattice that are associated with the anharmonic magnon coupling and decay phenomena. A set of concrete theoretical predictions is made for a close physical realization of the spin-1/2 $XXZ$ model, Ba$_3$CoSb$_2$O$_9$. We demonstrate that dramatic modifications in magnon spectrum must occur in low out-of-plane fields that are easily achievable for this material. The hallmark of the effect is a coexistence of the clearly distinct well-defined magnon excitations with significantly broadened ones in different regions of the ${\bf k}-\omega$ space. We systematically investigate the ground-state and the spectral properties of antiferromagnets on a kagom\'{e} lattice with several common types of the planar anisotropy: $XXZ$, single-ion, and out-of-plane Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya. Our main focus is on the role of nonlinear, anharmonic terms, which are responsible for the quantum order-by-disorder effect and for the corresponding selection of the ground-state spin structure in many of these models. The $XXZ$ and the single-ion anisotropy models exhibit a quantum phase transition between the ${\bf q}\!=\!0$ and the $\sqrt{3}\times\!\sqrt{3}$ states as a function of the anisotropy parameter, offering a rare example of the quantum order-by-disorder fluctuations favoring a ground state which is different from the one selected by thermal fluctuations. The nonlinear terms are also shown to be crucial for a very strong near-resonant decay phenomenon leading to the quasiparticle breakdown in the kagom\'{e}-lattice antiferromagnets whose spectra are featuring flat or weakly dispersive modes. The effect is shown to persist even in the limit of large spin values and should be common to other frustrated magnets with flat branches of excitations. Selection of the ground state of the kagom\'e-lattice $XXZ$ antiferromagnet by quantum fluctuations is investigated by combining non-linear spin-wave and real-space perturbation theories. The two methods unanimously favor ${\bf q}=0$ over $\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3}$ magnetic order in a wide range of the anisotropy parameter $0\leq \Delta\leq 0.72$. Both approaches are also in an accord on the magnitude of the quantum order-by-disorder effect generated by topologically non-trivial, loop-like spin-flip processes. The S=1/2 spin chain material SrCuO2 doped with 1% S=1 Ni-impurities is studied by inelastic neutron scattering. At low temperatures, the spectrum shows a pseudogap \Delta ~ 8 meV, absent in the parent compound, and not related to any structural phase transition. The pseudogap is shown to be a generic feature of quantum spin chains with dilute defects. A simple model based on this idea quantitatively accounts for the exprimental data measured in the temperature range 2-300 K, and allows to represent the momentum-integrated dynamic structure factor in a universal scaling form., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

High-resolution neutron resonance spin-echo measurements of superfluid 4He show that the roton energy does not have the same temperature dependence as the inverse lifetime. Diagrammatic analysis attributes this to the interaction of rotons with thermally excited phonons via both four- and three-particle processes, the latter being allowed by the broken gauge symmetry of the Bose condensate. We present a comprehensive study of the dynamical properties of the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a triangular lattice within the framework of spin-wave theory. The distinct features of spin-wave excitations in the triangular-lattice antiferromagnet are (i) finite lifetime at zero temperature due to spontaneous two-magnon decays, (ii) strong renormalization of magnon energies with respect to the harmonic result, and (iii) logarithmic singularities in the decay rate Gamma_k. Quantum corrections to the magnon spectrum are obtained using both the on-shell and off-shell solutions of the Dyson equation with the lowest-order magnon self-energy. At low-energies magnon excitations remain well-defined albeit with the anomalous decay rate Gamma_k ~ k^2 at k->0 and Gamma_k ~ |k-Q_AF|^7/2 at k->Q_AF. At high energies, magnons are heavily damped with the decay rate reaching (2 Gamma_k/E_k) ~ 0.3 for the case S=1/2. The on-shell solution shows logarithmic singularities in Gamma_k with the concomitant jump-like discontinuities in E_k along certain contours in the momentum space. Such singularities are even more prominent in the magnon spectral function A(k,w). Although the off-shell solution removes such log-singularities, the decay rates remain strongly enhanced. We also discuss the role of higher-order corrections and show that such singularities may lead to complete disappearance of the spectrum in the vicinity of certain k-points. The kinematic conditions for two-magnon decays are analyzed for various generalizations of the triangular-lattice antiferromagnet as well as for the XXZ model on a kagome lattice. We study the effects of external magnetic field on the properties of an ordered Heisenberg antiferromagnet with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. Using the spin-wave theory quantum correction to the energy, on-site magnetization, and uniform magnetization are calculated as a function of the field H and the DM anisotropy constant D. It is shown that the spin-wave excitations exhibit an unusual field-evolution of the gaps. This leads to various non-analytic dependencies of the quantum corrections on H and D. It is also demonstrated that, quite generally, the DM interaction suppresses quantum fluctuations, thus driving the system to a more classical ground state. Most of the discussion is devoted to the spin-S, two-dimensional square lattice antiferromagnet, whose S=1/2 case is closely realized in K2V3O8 where at H=0 the DM anisotropy is hidden by the easy-axis anisotropy but is revealed in a finite field. The microscopic structure of a charge stripe in an antiferromagnetic insulator is studied within the t-Jz model using analytical and numerical approaches. We demonstrate that a stripe in an antiferromagnet should be viewed as a system of composite holon-spin-polaron excitations condensed at the self-induced antiphase domain wall (ADW) of the antiferromagnetic spins. The properties of such excitations are studied in detail with numerical and analytical results for various quantities being in very close agreement. A picture of the stripe as an effective one-dimensional (1D) band of such excitations is also in very good agreement with numerical data. These results emphasize the primary role of kinetic energy in favoring the stripe as a ground state. A comparative analysis suggests the effect of pairing and collective meandering on the energetics of the stripe formation to be secondary. Using an analytical variational approach we calculate the hole-hole contact interaction on the N\'{e}el background. Solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation with this interaction gives bound states in $d$- and p-waves with binding energies close to those obtained by numerical methods. At $t/J \ge 2-3$ the bound state disappears.
