1. Predictive modeling of skin permeability for molecules: Investigating FDA-approved drug permeability with various AI algorithms.

Abstract: The transdermal route of drug administration has gained popularity for its convenience and bypassing the first-pass metabolism. Accurate skin permeability prediction is crucial for successful transdermal drug delivery (TDD). In this study, we address this critical need to enhance TDD. A dataset comprising 441 records for 140 molecules with diverse LogKp values was characterized. The descriptor calculation yielded 145 relevant descriptors. Machine learning models, including MLR, RF, XGBoost, CatBoost, LGBM, and ANN, were employed for regression analysis. Notably, LGBM, XGBoost, and gradient boosting models outperformed others, demonstrating superior predictive accuracy. Key descriptors influencing skin permeability, such as hydrophobicity, hydrogen bond donors, hydrogen bond acceptors, and topological polar surface area, were identified and visualized. Cluster analysis applied to the FDA-approved drug dataset (2326 compounds) revealed four distinct clusters with significant differences in molecular characteristics. Predicted LogKp values for these clusters offered insights into the permeability variations among FDA-approved drugs. Furthermore, an investigation into skin permeability patterns across 83 classes of FDA-approved drugs based on the ATC code showcased significant differences, providing valuable information for drug development strategies. The study underscores the importance of accurate skin permeability prediction for TDD, emphasizing the superior performance of nonlinear machine learning models. The identified key descriptors and clusters contribute to a nuanced understanding of permeability characteristics among FDA-approved drugs. These findings offer actionable insights for drug design, formulation, and prioritization of molecules with optimum properties, potentially reducing reliance on costly experimental testing. Future research directions include offering promising applications in pharmaceutical research and formulation within the burgeoning field of computer-aided drug design.

2. Sports injuries: a 5-year review of admissions at a major trauma center in the United Kingdom

Abstract: Purpose Sports offer several health benefits but are not free of injury risk. Activity dynamics vary across sports, impacting the injury profile and thereby influencing healthcare resource utilization and health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate sports-related major trauma cases and compare differences across sports and activity groups. Methods A retrospective case notes review of sports-related major traumas over a 5-year period was conducted. Demographic, hospital episode-related, and health outcome-related data were analyzed, and differences were compared across sports and activity groups. The Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) at discharge was used as the primary outcome measure and the length of hospital stay as the secondary outcome measure. Results In total, 76% of cases had good recovery at discharge (GOS, 5), 19% had moderate disability (GOS, 4), and 5% had severe disability (GOS, 3). The mean length of hospital stay was 11.2 days (range, 1–121 days). The most severely injured body region was the limbs (29.1%) and vertebral/spinal injuries were most common (33%) in terms of location. A significant difference (P0.05) were found in other health-outcome variables or injury patterns across sports or activity groups, although more competitive sports cases (67%) required admission than recreational sports cases (33%). Conclusions Spinal injuries are the most frequent sports injuries, bear the worst health outcomes, and warrant better preventive measures. Head injuries previously dominated the worst outcomes; this change is likely due to better preventive and management modalities. Competitive sports had a higher injury frequency than recreational sports, but no difference in health outcomes or injury patterns.

3. Spatiotemporal landslide susceptibility mapping using machine learning models: A case study from district Hattian Bala, NW Himalaya, Pakistan

Abstract: The Himalayan region, a rugged mountain zone is among the most susceptible zones to the landslide hazard due to its terrain, geography, and active tectonics. Machine learning (ML) techniques are most advanced and precise methods to develop landslide susceptibility model (LSM). The current study was designed to analyze and assess the landslide susceptibility using ML approaches for District Hattian Bala, NW Himalayas, Pakistan. The historical satellite imageries are used to generate spatiotemporal landslide inventories of year 2005, 2007 and 2012. A spatial database was created pertaining to topographic, environmental, geologic, and anthropogenic factors including slope, aspect, elevation, curvature, plane curvature, profile curvature, topographic wetness index (TWI), lithology, distance to faults, distance to streams, distance to roads, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and land use/ land cover (LULC). These LCFs were selected to analyze periodic landslide susceptibility in the region. The experimental design utilized 349, 393, and 735 landslide inventory of 2005, 2007, and 2012 respectively. Two ML models, i.e., Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR) were applied to assess landslide susceptibility determine by thirteen landslide causative factors (LCFs). The spatiotemporal landslide inventory was partitioned into training (70%) and testing (30%) landslides for respective years to check the prediction accuracies of selected ML models. Comparative analysis of different LSMs was performed by the Receiver Operator Curves – Area Under Curves (ROC-AUC). The resultant accuracy, MAE, RMSE, Kappa, Precision, Recall, F1 indicated that RF outperformed the LR model. The study aims to minimize losses to lives and potential economic damage linked with recurrent slope instabilities in the region. It is anticipated that use of ML algorithms would support concerned authorities and organizations to effectively plan and manage landslide hazard in the region.

4. The Potential Role of ACEi and ARBs in COVID-19; A Perspective

Abstract: ABSTRACT. COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant morbidity and mortality around the world. The disease severity ranges from mild upper respiratory infection to severe lower respiratory and cardiac illness. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is the most serious complication and results in diffuse inflammatory alveolar damage, respiratory failure, and death. Components of the Renin -Angiotensin-Aldosterone -System (RAAS) are involved in an inflammatory reaction in the lungs. Various studies have shown that blocking RAAS peptides in the lungs especially angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and type-1 angiotensin receptor (ATR1) reduces lung injury, improves respiratory function and is associated with better clinical outcomes in the COVID-19 patients. We suggest that angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) – drugs that block RAAS peptides – be considered for a repurposed use in COVID-19 induced lung injury.

Abstract: "The western colonial forces arised during the political fall of Muslim society in 17th and 18th century. Western powers not only established military domination, but also influenced Muslim society by their civilization. At the same time the Sanusi movement proved to be a determination for Muslims in the North Africa, which was the most successful movement of Islam founded by the Sufi leader of Algeria Syed Mohammad bin Ali Al Sanusi(1787: 1859). This movement has deeply influenced the historical events in Arabia and North Africa, and played a significant role in the revival of the Muslim world on the basis of Quran and Sunnah. Dr.Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi's book ""The Sanusiyyah Movement of North Africa an analytical Study"" was published in 2001 by Sharia Academy International Islamic University. Ghazi’s work is based on the deep study of the religious and political movement of this era. The special distinction of this movement sanusi did not only tried to establish a government on the basis of Islamic law but also observed tasawaf for the purification of its workers the Muslim historian and researchers through Sufi actions. Abstract: Background: One of the barriers to cancer care is the inadequate communication with patients and their families. InEgypt, it is believed that culture is against the honest disclosure of cancer diagnosis. So, the majority of cancer patientsare usually unaware of their diagnosis.Aim: To study cancer diagnosis awareness among a group of Egyptian patients and the factors contributing to their unawareness. Methods: The study included 119 cancer patients from two cancer centers; one in Cairo and the other in Sharkia. Patients were asked about their illness and who answered as having cancer/tumor” or mentioned the name of cancer considered aware. Results: The majority of our patients (100/119, 84%) were aware of their cancer diagnosis. Their answer was “cancer” in 31%, “tumor” in 60% and the name of cancer in 9%. While, a nority (19 /119, 16%), were unaware of their cancer diagnosis. They were more likely to be less educated, older in age, males, unmarried, and from Sharkia. None of the studied variables associated significantly with awareness. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that most cancer patients in Egypt are aware of their diagnosis. This may be due to a change in the Egyptian cultural attitude towards truth telling and a shift in the approach of care from paternalistic to patient-centred.

Abstract: This study explores the effect of hybridization of both resin and reinforcement on mechanical properties of jute/cotton fiber-reinforced epoxy/polyester composite materials. Tensile, bending, and Charpy impact tests were conducted on the composites. Mechanical properties of the composites were observed to increase after hybridization. For reference, tensile strength of jute/epoxy/polyester and cotton/epoxy/polyester hybrid composites was observed to be 10.06% and 12.25% higher than jute/epoxy and cotton/epoxy composites, respectively. The existence of an interpenetrating polymer network between the two resins during hybridization causes enhancement in mechanical properties. Abstract: This research investigates the influence of kevlar and glass fiber reinforcements on the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy/vinyl ester (hybrid resin) composite. The hybrid resin was synthesized by achieving an interpenetrating network between epoxy and vinyl ester. The composites were characterized using tensile, flexural, impact, and thermo‐gravimetric analysis (TGA). Scanning electron microscopy was employed to analyze surface morphology whereas Fourier‐Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy (FT‐IR) was used to investigate the possible interaction between the constituents of the composites. The findings have shown a notable improvement in the mechanical properties after the hybridization of the resin. For reference, the tensile strength of glass/hybrid resin and kevlar/hybrid resin composites were observed to increase by 8.33% and 23.65%, as compared to glass/epoxy and kevlar epoxy composites respectively, whereas, the bending strength of these composites was improved by 8.36% and 30.61%, respectively. TGA also showed an enhanced thermal stability of the hybrid resin‐based composites. Such improvements are noticed due to multi‐resin incorporation (the oxirane group of epoxy reacts with the hydroxyl group of vinyl ester), confirmed by the FTIR, TGA, and morphological analysis. This study signifies that the proposed hybrid composites are better in terms of strength and modulus relative to conventional metallic materials. Highlights: The paper presents the development of novel hybrid resin, reinforced with synthetic fibers.Hybrid resin is imparted positively and is highly favorable in improving the mechanical properties of composites.The tensile strength of novel composites is increased by 8.33% and 23.65% relative to their base specimens, and a similar trend is observed in flexural and impact analysis.Fractured analysis showed that composite laminates deteriorated more intensely due to cohesive matrix fracture; adhesion failure was not observed at all, as evidenced by the emergence of micro‐cracks in resin.Developed novel composites exhibited maximum thermal stability; residual char in glass/epoxy/vinyl‐ester composite attained 17.81% higher, whereas kevlar/epoxy/vinyl‐ester achieved 3.56% relative to glass/epoxy and kevlar/epoxy base samples. Abstract: The article focuses on the essential elements that contribute their segment towards triumphing competitive advantage of organizations. The problem of not having a competitive advantage in organizations is the major hindrance concerning the economic evolution and progress in underdeveloped countries (UDCs). It has been observed that UDCs suffer from lack of monitoring and control in the dimensions related to their knowledge management strategies, which is essential in nature. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to address monitoring and control in knowledge management though a qualitative, descriptive, and non-experimental study, where we carried out survey of 50 firms and assessed accordingly. The findings demonstrate that UDCs' knowledge management foundations are quite weak, inconsistent and incohesive with the demand of the system and of nature. However, competitive advantage and innovation could be worked upon and obviously can be enhanced, which can further lead towards better productivity of companies. Abstract: The leaves of Ficus lyrata warb (Moraceae) is used to treat GI disorder such as diarrhea in folklore use. The aim of present research is to explore the antidiarrheal and antipyretic activity of methanolic extract of leaves of F. lyrata. The diarrhea was induced by using castor oil. The anti-pyretic effects were also explored on yeast induced pyrexia. The physicochemical analysis of powder such as (total ash, water soluble ash, acid insoluble ash, moisture content, foaming index and swelling index) along with organoleptic evaluation of leaf of F. lyrata in order to access the quality Purity of the substance was also done. The phytochemical analysis of methanolic extract of F. lyrata leaves confirmed the presence of polyphenols, tannins, terpenoids, cardiac glycosides, flavonoids and reducing sugar. The antidiarrheal activity of MEFL at 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight showed 62% and 76% reduction in defecation respectively. The decrease in intestinal fluid accumulation at same dose revealed 67.2% and 75% reduction in fluid accumulation in intestine of Wister albino rats. The methanolic extract of F. lyrata showed reduction in distance travelled by charcoal meal such as 54% and 72% at dose 100 and 200 mg/kg respectively. The antipyretic effect at a dose of 100 and 200 mg/kg showed significant reduction in temperature. The anti-diarrheal activity of the F. lyrata might be due to the presence of flavonoids. Abstract: Fusarium cotton wilt (FW) is one of the most economically devastating cotton diseases worldwide and the threatening agent of this disease is Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. vasinfectum (FOV). This study aimed to add more information towards the isolation and identification of F. oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum (FOV), which could probably be responsible for the wilting of their corresponding host, Gossypium hirsutum. Roots samples were collected from plants showing typical symptoms of wilting from three different regions (Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan) of province Punjab, Pakistan. For further analysis, samples were immediately transported to the microbiology laboratory of Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan (GCUF). After surface sterilization of root, each cut piece (5 mm) of the root was inoculated on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) media and incubated at 25°C±2 °C for 7 days. The different obtained co1lonies were identified using the standard microbiological techniques such as macro-morphological, microscopic, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The pathogenicity test was also performed in the greenhouse for confirmation of Koch's postulate. This test showed that plants infected with FOV start wilting and yellowing of leaves which confirmed that FOV was linked with cotton wilt and responsible for significant economic loss. Abstract: The construction industry is continuously searching for sustainable materials to combat the rapid depletion of global resources and ongoing ecological crises. Biocomposites have recently received global attention in various industries due to their renewability, low cost, and biodegradability. Biocomposites' potential as a sustainable substitute in construction can be understood by identifying their diverse applications. Moreover, examining their life cycle environmental and economic impacts is important. Therefore, this study is a novel attempt to encompass biocomposites' construction applications and their environmental life cycle performance. Statistical analysis is done related to the temporal distribution of papers, publishers, literature type and regions of studies. First, this paper reviews the latest research on the applications of natural fiber biocomposites in construction with their key findings. The applications include fiber reinforcements in concrete, external strengthening elements, internally filled hollow tubes, wood replacement boards, insulation, and non-structural members. The second part covers the life cycle assessment (LCA) and cost studies on biocomposites. The life cycle studies are currently rare and require more case-specific assessments; however, they highlight the benefits of biocomposites in cost savings and environmental protection. Abstract: We have investigated the infrared reflectivity, UV-visible spectra and electrical property of polycrystalline RFeO3 (R = La, Nd, Gd, Dy, Er) synthesized by sol–gel method. Analysis of IR reflectivity spectra through Lorentz oscillator model has led to the observation of 14 IR active phonon modes out of 25 predicted modes. The results have been discussed in terms of different phonon bands related to the origin of atomic vibrations, which provides information about the structural evolution. The energy bandgap ≃ 1.67–1.90 eV estimated from optical conductivity ( σ ( ω )) spectrum is found consistent both with that calculated from UV-visible spectra and estimated from electrical measurements. Abstract: The Large Scale Data Facility (LSDF) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology was started end of 2009 with the aim of supporting the growing requirements of data intensive experiments. In close cooperation with the involved scientific communities, the LSDF provides them not only with adequate storage space but with a directly attached analysis farm and -- more importantly -- with value added services for their big scientific data-sets. Analysis workflows are supported through the mixed Hadoop and Open Nebula Cloud environments directly attached to the storage, and enable the efficient processing of the experimental data. Metadata handling is a central part of the LSDF, where a metadata repository, community specific metadata schemes, graphical tools, and APIs were developed for accessing and efficiently organizing the stored data-sets.

Both community specific meta data schemes, a meta data repository, an application programming interface and a graphical tool for accessing the resources were developed to further support the processing workflows of the partner scientific communities. Abstract: We have investigated the optical and electrical properties of polycrystalline DyMn2O5 synthesized by sol-gel method. Analysis of the reflectivity spectrum has led to the observation of 18 infrared (IR) active phonon modes out of 36 predicted ones. We discuss the results in terms of different phonon bands originated as a result of atomic vibrations. Moreover, the optical energy band gap of Eg(OC)~1.78 eV has been estimated from optical conductivity (σ1(ω)) spectrum. The energy band gap and optical transitions were also determined from UV-visible absorption spectrum and band gap of Eg(UV)~1.57 eV was estimated. Abstract: Higher grain Zn concentration is desirable to combat human Zn deficiency. A total of 58 farmers' fields were surveyed from districts of Multan and Lodhran to represent cotton-wheat rotation zone of Punjab. Soils were sampled separately from the surface (0–15 cm depth) and subsurface (15–30 cm depth) layers. Within 5 m2 of soil sample, about 100 spikes from mature tillers of wheat were also collected. Nearly all subsurface and 76% of the collected surface soil samples were deficient in plant available Zn resulting in grain Zn concentration of 20 µg g–1, on average. The inherent capacity of subsurface soil layer to supply Zn positively correlated with grain Zn concentration (r=0.33, n=58; P=0.01). Organic matter content (r=0.32, n=58; P=0.02) in subsurface layer and soil salinity (ECe) of both layers (r=–0.53, n=58; P<0.01 for ECe of both layers) were the other major soil characteristics that significantly correlated with grain Zn concentration. Zinc bioavailability in wheat grains, estimated by [phytate]:[Zn] ratios and trivariate model of Zn absorption, was low. Present study indicated a need to reduce current grain [phytate]:[Zn] ratio (46, on average) and to increase the current trivariate model based estimated Zn bioavailability (1.5 mg Zn for 300 g flour, on average) by about 2-folds. Abstract: Background: Fear, stress, and anxiety-like behaviors originate from traumatic events in life. Stress response is managed by endocannabinoids in the body by limiting the uncontrolled retrieval of aversive memories. Pharmacotherapy-modulating endocannabinoids, especially anandamide, presents a promising tool for treating anxiety disorders. Here, we investigated the effect of kaempferol, a flavonoid, in the extinction of fear related memories and associated anxiety-like behavior. Methods: The ability of kaempferol to inhibit fatty-acid amide hydrolase (FAAH, the enzyme that catabolizes anandamide) was assessed in vitro using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. For animal studies (in vivo), the extinction learning was evaluated using contextual fear conditioning (CFC, a behavioral paradigm based on ability to learn and remember aversive stimuli). Furthermore, an elevated plus-maze (EPM) model was used for measuring anxiety-like behavior, while serum corticosterone served as a biochemical indicator of anxiety. Lastly, the interaction of kaempferol with FAAH enzyme was also assessed in silico (computational study). Results: Our data showed that kaempferol inhibited the FAAH enzyme with an IC50 value of 1 µM. In CFC, it reduced freezing behavior in rats. EPM data demonstrated anxiolytic activity as exhibited by enhanced number of entries and time spent in the open arm. No change in blood corticosterone levels was noted. Our computational study showed that Kaempferol interacted with the catalytic amino acids (SER241, PHE192, PHE381, and THR377) of FAAH enzyme Conclusion: Our study demonstrate that kaempferol facilitated the extinction of aversive memories along with a reduction of anxiety. Abstract: The seismic provisions for the Building Code of Pakistan were revised after the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and these have resulted in the introduction of a macrozonation ground motion hazard map in the seismic provisions. The macrozonation map proposes a peak ground acceleration (PGA) for the return period of 475 yr for Pakistan for flat rock sites. After the macrozonation, the next step is to develop the surface ground motion assessment studies for the cities, districts and tehsils of Pakistan. In this study, the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) approach is used for the Peshawar District. The PSHA, consistent with the classical Cornell approach, is carried out to obtain the seismic hazard curves and uniform hazard spectra of PGA values for the return periods of 150, 475, 975 and 2475 yr at a grid spacing of 0.1∘×0.1∘. The PGA for Peshawar at 150, 475, 975 and 2475 yr return period is estimated as 0.23, 0.34, 0.39 and 0.45g, respectively, for rock flat outcrop site conditions. The surface ground motion maps proposed in this study incorporate the local soil effects using amplification factors based on shear wave velocity obtained as a proxy to the topographic slope. The resultant ground surface hazard assessment proposes the PGA value of 0.63g for the return period of 475 yr and 0.89g for the return period of 2475 yr. The aim of this study was to validate the applicability of a regression equation proposed by Melgaco for prediction of mesiodistal width of unerupted canine and premolars in mandibular arch (PSCP) in class II division 1 occlusal relations. Actual mesiodistal widths of the mandibular permanent canines and premolars (ASCP) was measured with the help of Vernier calipers. Mesiodistal width of erupted first molar and incisor was also measured. The predicted mesiodistal width of unerupted canine and premolars were determined by Melgaco equation. Descriptive statistics were generated for age, gender, predicted (PSCP) and the actual size of canine and premolars (ASCP). Pearson correlation was used to check the correlation coefficient (r value) and test whether significant correlation exist between the predicted and actual mesiodistal dimensions. A p-value < 0.05 was taken as significant. The study consisted of 37 males and 63 females with mean age of 17.74 ± 2. 14 years. Significant correlation, p-value <0.001 was found between predicted and actual mesiodistal width of canine and premolars in the entire sample along with terms of gender stratification. In conclusion, Melgaco equation shows positive correlation with actual mesiodistal width of the teeth in both genders having class II div I malocclusion with females having higher correlation coefficient. 48. Distributed control system and novel power take off method for pumping-mode airborne wind energy

Abstract: peer-reviewed The robotic control of tethered parafoils enables a number of exciting applications, primarily a novel approach to wind energy generation. The airborne wind energy (AWE) paradigm aims to reduce greatly the mass and cost of materials required to generate electrical power from the wind. With innovative, distributed control systems and advanced materials, free flying tethered wings can replace the tower and blades of a conventional wind turbine, with the power take off system relocated to ground level. The critical enabling challenge faced by such systems, is the development of suitable control system hardware and software architectures with robust controllers maintaining the safe and optimal operation of the system. Suitable power take off methods form an integral part of AWE systems, as the mechanical power is produced on a periodic cycle. A holistic approach to the design, development and testing of a distributed control system for the flight of tethered kites has been undertaken. The airborne control element must operate harmoniously with the ground based power take off unit. A series of flight tests of a prototype control system developed has been carried out in the field. A detailed analysis of results and outcomes is provided. Paralleling the prototype development a mathematical model and simulation tool for the power take off synchronisation of multiple AWE systems has been developed with analysis of the performance and requirements for such a system. Continuous power output is achieved from multiple interconnected cyclical sources in a model that presents one feasible AWE farm topology. Having gained low cost access to altitude, additional payload applications for the automatic flight of parafoils emerge such as aerial sensor and observation platforms or ‘over the horizon’ communications links.

49. Antidiabetic effects of Brugmansia aurea leaf extract by modulating the glucose levels, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress mechanism.

Abstract: Background: Ethnopharmacological relevance: Brugmansia , a genus of the Solanaceae family, has historically been utilized in many different parts of the world as an anti-inflammatory for treating skin infections, wounds, and bodily aches and pains. The current study aimed to investigate the potential benefits of a methanolic extract of Brugmansia aurea in the management of diabetes and underlying complications in alloxanized-induced diabetic rats., Materials and Methods: Animals were divided into nine groups ( n = 6). Four groups received different standard oral hypoglycemic agents; three groups received 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg of B. aurea leaf extract for six consecutive weeks, and the remaining two were normal and disease control groups. All groups received alloxan (150 mg/kg) except for the normal control. Only those animals whose glucose levels were raised to 200 mg/dl were selected for the study. After a 6-week dosage period, various biochemical parameters, as well as HbA1c, antioxidant profile, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), insulin sensitivity, histopathology, and insulin resistance, were measured and compared with the untreated diabetic group., Results: Brugmansia aurea leaf extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg showed potent antidiabetic activity by reducing blood glucose levels ( p < 0.001) after 6 weeks of treatment. OGTT data showed that B. aurea exhibited significant ( p < 0.001) glucose tolerance by significantly reducing blood glucose levels in just 2 h post-treatment. Other tests showed that plant extract significantly increased ( p < 0.001) insulin sensitivity and decreased ( p < 0.001) insulin resistance. The biochemical profile showed reduced triglyceride and cholesterol, while the antioxidant profile showed restoration of antioxidant enzymes in the pancreas, kidney, and liver tissues of treated rats., Conclusion: The present study indicated that crude extracts of B. aurea increase insulin sensitivity and reduce hyperlipidemia in diabetic rats, which rationalizes the traditional medicinal use of this plant as an antidiabetic agent., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2022 Fatima, Anwar, Saleem, Khan, Ahmad, Shahzadi, Ahmad and Ismail.)

50. Incidence of food and aero allergies among patients visiting Allergy center National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.

Abstract: Objective: To identify the most common allergy type among patients visiting an urban allergy centre., Methods: The descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Allergy Centre of the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, Pakistan, from December 2019 to June 2020, and comprised subjects of either gender aged 20-50 years. Skin prick test was used to determine the skin reactivity for 11 common allergen extracts. Patients with a wheal diameter >3mm were considered positive. Data was analysed using SPSS 22., Results: Of the 100 patients, 55(55%) were males and 45(45%) were females. The overall mean age was 34.03±8.16 years. Majority of the respondents 93(93%) were sensitive to aeroallergen, 7(7%) to food allergens, and 2(2%) exhibited sensitivity against both types of allergens. Poly-sensitisation was found among 86(86%) respondents., Conclusion: Aeroallergens were found to be the main triggering factor for allergies compared to the food allergens.
