IntroductionMaternal diet during pregnancy has been linked to offspring allergy risk and it could represent a potential target for allergy prevention. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is considered one of the healthiest dietary models. Randomized-controlled trials on the effect of MD in preventing pediatric allergic diseases are still needed.Methods and analysisThe Mediterranean Diet during Pregnancy study (PREMEDI) will be a 9-month multi-center, randomized-controlled, parallel groups, prospective trial. Healthy women (20–35 years) at their first trimester of pregnancy at risk for atopy baby, will be randomly allocated to Group 1 (standard obstetrical and gynecological follow-up and nutritional counseling to promote MD) or Group 2 (standard obstetrical and gynecological follow-up alone). 138 mother-child pair per group will be needed to detect a reduction in cumulative incidence of ≥1 allergic disease at 24 months of age. The primary study aim will be the evaluation of the occurrence of allergic disorders in the first 24 months of life. The secondary aims will be the evaluation of maternal weight gain, pregnancy/perinatal complications, growth indices and occurrence of other chronic disorders, mother-child pair adherence to MD and gut microbiome features, breastfeeding duration and breast milk composition, epigenetic modulation of genes involved in immune system, and metabolic pathways in the offspring.Ethics and disseminationThe study protocol has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of Naples Federico II (number 283/21) and it will be conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration (Fortaleza revision, 2013), the Good Clinical Practice Standards (CPMP/ICH/135/95), the Italian Decree-Law 196/2003 regarding personal data and the European regulations on this subject. BackgroundPregnant women, especially those with comorbidities, compared to those non-pregnant, have higher risk of developing a severe form of COVID-19. However, COVID-19 vaccine uptake is very low among them.MethodsAn anonymous questionnaire was administered to randomly selected women 18 years of age that were currently pregnant or had just given birth between September 2021 and May 2022 in the geographic area of Naples. Vaccine hesitancy was assessed using the vaccine hesitancy scale (VHS).ResultsA total of 385 women participated. Women who had not been infected by SARS-CoV-2 and who needed information about vaccination against COVID-19 had a higher perceived risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2. More than half (54.3%) of the women were very afraid of the potential side effects of the COVID-19 vaccination on the fetus. There was higher concern of the side effects of the vaccine on the fetus among those who did not have a graduate degree, those with high-risk pregnancy, those who had not been infected by SARS-CoV-2, those who were more concerned that they could be infected by SARS-CoV-2, those who did not know that this vaccination was recommended for them, and those trusting mass media/internet/social networks for information. Only 21.3% were vaccinated when pregnant, mostly women with a university degree, those who had been infected by SARS-CoV-2 before pregnancy, those who did not need information, and those who acquired information about the vaccination from gynecologists. Almost three-quarters (71.9%) were willing to receive the vaccination and those more likely were those with a university degree, those who have had at least one relative/cohabitant partner/friend who had been infected by SARS-CoV-2, those who were more concerned that they could be infected by SARS-CoV-2, and those who were not extremely concerned of the side effects of the vaccine on the fetus. A total of 86.4% were highly hesitant. Highly hesitant were respondents who did not get a graduate degree, those less concerned that they could be infected by SARS-CoV-2, and those trusting mass media/internet/social networks for information.ConclusionPublic health efforts and education campaigns for pregnant women are needed for changing their perception patterns and for supporting gynecologists in promoting the uptake of this vaccination.

The ca. 2.96 Ga Dominion Group (DG) preserves the first subaerial volcano-sedimentary succession on the Kaapvaal Craton. Based on field and core observations, this study provides revised stratigraphic logs and geological maps from the area around Ottosdal that refine the understanding of the stratigraphic and tectonic evolution of these ancient rocks. Fluvial sandstone and conglomerate of the Rhenosterspruit Formation (RsF) were deposited on granite basement, followed by andesitic to basaltic volcanic rocks of the Rhenosterhoek Formation (RhF). These amygdaloidal andesitic to basaltic lava units show fragmentation around lava flows that may represent an indication of prevalent subaerial environment. However, local hyaloclastite and pillow lava units indicate periodic aqueous conditions. The Syferfontein Formation (SF) has the most extensive exposures in the Ottosdal area and represents the youngest volcanic unit of the DG. The porphyritic and spherulitic volcanic rocks tell a story of subaerial volcanism interspersed with periods of lacustrine deposition of sandstone and shale. The Witwatersrand Supergroup (WSG) overlies the DG along an angular unconformity. Folding affected the succession of the DG, WSG and the Ventersdorp Supergroup (Rietgat Formation). This event is reflected in small-scale folds and mullion structures in the central part of the study area and by larger scale north-north-west-south-southeast-striking anticlines and synclines. Folding was accompanied by northwest-southeast-striking thrust faulting, either during or shortly after the formation of the Ventersdorp Supergroup. Lateral sampling of each blasting interval (~ 2.6 m) along a 79 m strike length was conducted for the Hosen 8‐2 vein on the −5 ML (mining level, meters relative to sea level) of the Main ore zone in the Hishikari epithermal Au deposit, Kagoshima, Japan. The horizontal variation of mineral textures, bulk chemical compositions, and fluid inclusion temperatures and apparent salinity of ore fluids were determined. The major gangue minerals of the quartz veins studied include quartz and adularia with minor amounts of calcite and smectite. The major ore minerals include electrum, galena, and sphalerite with minor pyrite, petzite, and hessite. Electrum commonly occurs in a discrete band with microcrystalline quartz, granular adularia, and smectite. The electrum‐bearing band is followed by tabular adularia, and finally by granular or comb quartz. Mineral textures that indicate high degrees of supersaturation with respect to amorphous silica (presently quartz with microcrystalline/mosaic and feathery textures) and adularia (with tabular, rhombic, and granular textures) were common throughout the vein strike. Bulk chemical analyses indicate that Au grade is positively correlated with Ag, Bi, Pb, and Te contents. A bonanza zone with Au grades up to 10,800 ppm occurs in the central part of the Hosen 8‐2 vein on the −5 ML, and is associated with high adularia content, calculated as adularia / (quartz + adularia). The wide lateral variation in the geochemical composition contrasts with the consistent association of electrum with microcrystalline quartz, granular adularia, and smectite throughout the Hosen 8‐2 vein on the −5 ML. Fluid inclusion microthermometry of primary and pseudosecondary inclusions in quartz and adularia yielded histogram modes of homogenization temperature between 160 and 240°C; the most frequent mode is 200–210°C, with most data within ±10°C from this value. The maximum ice‐melting temperature of most samples excluding late comb quartz is −1.5°C, which is equivalent to an apparent salinity of 2.6 wt% NaCl eq. The wide variation in ice‐melting temperatures and apparent salinities (up to 5.2 wt% NaCl eq.) may be due to dissolved CO2 in the fluids, while the sharp decrease in apparent salinity with temperature decrease indicates CO2 loss due to fluid boiling during vein formation. The intimate association of electrum with microcrystalline quartz that recrystallized from amorphous silica indicate sharp boiling and vapor loss as the primary mechanism of Au deposition in the Hosen 8‐2 vein. The Humpa Leu East (HLE) prospect is one of the newly discovered porphyry Cu‐Au prospects in the Hu'u district, Sumbawa Island, Indonesia. The HLE prospect was formed by calc‐alkaline magmatic activity in an active continental margin setting. The prospect is typical calc‐alkaline porphyry Cu‐Au mineralization related to multiphase diorite and quartz diorite porphyry intrusions, which are hosted by andesitic crystalline tuff, volcanic breccia, and andesite lava. Hydrothermal alteration recognized at the surface includes potassic, propylitic, advanced argillic, intermediate argillic, and argillic alteration. Two styles of Cu‐Au mineralization were identified in the HLE prospect, that is, quartz‐sulfide veins and sulfide dissemination, formed in the early, intermediate, and late stages. The early stage is associated with M (magnetite ± bornite ± chalcopyrite), A (quartz + magnetite), and AB (quartz + magnetite + chalcopyrite ± pyrite) veins. These veins were mainly formed in the potassic alteration zone. The intermediate stage is characterized by B (quartz + chalcopyrite + pyrite) and C (chalcopyrite ± pyrite) veins and mainly associated with the chlorite‐sericite and sericite alteration zones. The late stage is mainly associated with D (calcite + gypsum + quartz + pyrite ± chalcopyrite ± sphalerite ± galena) veins with sericite‐chlorite alteration halo. Petrography and electron microprobe analyses indicate that calcite mainly replaced Ca‐rich plagioclase. Fluid inclusion petrography and Raman spectroscopy revealed that monophase vapor inclusions, as well as two‐phase (V + L) and multiphase (V + S + L) fluid inclusions contain CO2 gas. The potassic alteration with significant amounts of calcite is indicative of CO2‐rich fluids, which is uncommon in other porphyry Cu‐Au deposits. On the basis of textural and fluid inclusion analyses, calcite formed by a reaction between Ca‐rich plagioclase and CO2‐rich hydrothermal fluids. The Chifumbazi gold deposit is located in the Chifunde District, Tete Province, northwestern Mozambique. The geology of the study area is composed of the Proterozoic Mualadzi Group comprising ultramafic metavolcanic rocks, quartzite, biotite‐schist, Macanda Mafic Metavolcanics, conglomerate, and granitoid of the Furancungo Suite. The geological characteristics and metallogenesis of gold mineralization in the Tete Province are poorly understood. This study describes the gold mineralization and associated hydrothermal alteration in the Chifumbazi deposit on the basis of petrography, whole‐rock geochemistry, mineral chemistry, fluid inclusion and sulfur isotope analyses. The mineralization in the Chifumbazi deposit includes auriferous quartz, calcite, dolomite and ankerite quartz‐chlorite, and chlorite‐pyrite veins and veinlets as well as sulfide dissemination hosted by altered meta‐granodiorite along shear zones and fracture zones. On a larger scale, the mineralized veins and veinlets occur along a discordant fracture system within a Pan‐African shear zone. The meta‐granodiorite host‐rock of the mineralization consists mainly of plagioclase, biotite, actinolite, and quartz, and alteration minerals calcite, dolomite, sericite, and chlorite. The meta‐granodiorite is enriched in LREE compared to HREE and shows negative Eu anomalies. The mineralization in the Chifumbazi deposit formed through three hypogene mineralization stages (Stages I–III) and one supergene stage (Stage IV). Stage I comprises quartz, calcite, dolomite, ankerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and galena. Stage II comprises quartz, pyrrhotite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and native gold. Stage III comprises chlorite and pyrite; and Stage IV comprises secondary minerals goethite, bornite and covellite. Bulk chemical analysis of ores detected gold contents up to 5 ppm for a quartz vein of Stage II, where visible native gold is present in pyrite. The δ34SCDT values of pyrite and chalcopyrite of the Stages I–III range from +0.9 to +2.4 ‰. On the basis of the geological setting, mineralogy, and sulfur isotope signatures, the Chifumbazi deposit can be classified as orogenic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Ruwai skarn deposit is located in the Schwaner Mountain complex within the central Borneo gold belt and is currently considered the largest Zn skarn deposit in Indonesia. The deposit has been known to host Zn-Pb-Ag mineralization in the form of massive sulfide ore bodies; however, the occurrence of Ag-bearing minerals has not been identified yet. This study documents the mineralogical characteristics of several Bi-Ag sulfosalts and sulfoarsenides, as well as their chemical compositions. Ten Bi-Ag sulfosalts were identified, including native bismuth, tetrahedrite, cossalite, tsumoite, bismuthinite, joseite-B, Bi6Te2S, Bi-Pb-Te-S, Bi-Ag-S, and Bi-Te-Ag. Three sulfoarsenides were identified, including arsenopyrite, glaucodot, and alloclasite. The occurrence of Bi-Ag sulfosalts is typically associated with massive sulfide mineralization, although tsumoite can also be found associated with massive magnetite. In terms of sulfoarsenides, both arsenopyrite and glaucodot are associated with massive sulfide mineralization, whereas alloclasite is associated with massive magnetite mineralization. The Bi-bearing minerals are characterized by irregular, bleb-like texture or patch morphology, and occur either as free grains or inclusions within sulfides, such as galena or pyrite. Tetrahedrite typically has an anhedral shape with a rim or atoll texture surrounding sphalerite or galena. In contrast, sulfoarsenides are typically found as euhedral–subhedral grains where glaucodot typically is rimmed by arsenopyrite. Both Bi-Ag sulfosalt and sulfoarsenides were formed during the retrograde stage under high oxidation and a low sulfidation state condition. The ore-forming temperature based on arsenopyrite geothermometry ranges from 428 °C to 493 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
