381 - Abstract
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is the largest economic group in the Middle Eastern region and rank seventeenth in the global economy. The establishment of a GCC custom union in 2003 that led to a flat rate of imports tax between 0 and 5 percent has encouraged a number of economic groups such as the European Union (EU) as well as other individual countries to have closed trade relations with the GCC economic bloc. Malaysia is also interested in expanding its trade relations with the Arab Gulf economies. As Muslim countries and members of the Organisation of Islamic Conferences (OIC), trade between Malaysia and the GCC countries is increasing and has lead to Malaysia’s proposal to expand this relation. Given this background, one of the main aims of this research is to explore in detail bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and the GCC countries and their determinants. In fulfilling this aim, this thesis examines Malaysia’s trade performances with the Arab Gulf region by analysing the trade intensity index and the revealed comparative advantage (RCA) index. These analyses reveal favourable countries for Malaysia to trade within the GCC, and also niche products for Malaysian exports. The competitiveness of Malaysian main products that are exported to the GCC countries is also compared to its rivals. To provide further evidence, surveys with Malaysian traders and authorities were conducted. The survey with Malaysian traders was purposely to measure their perceptions of the GCC economic bloc. The surveys also identify traders’ motivation for doing business in this market as well as challenges and obstacles in expanding Malaysian exports to these economies. In collecting this evidence, the combination of a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were employed to collect the primary data; and the data were analysed through interpretative and textual analysis along with statistical analysis including factor analysis. Based on the findings, it can be said that trade relations with the GCC countries is still insignificant in comparison to that with Malaysia’s major trading partners. Nevertheless, due to Malaysia’s niche products, expansion strategy of services sectors in both Malaysia and the GCC countries and the existence of favourable countries to trade in the GCC, these may create huge potential for expansion. The findings also reveal that, cultural differences and lack of capital have been the major problems for Malaysian businessmen in doing business with the GCC region. The findings also indicate that there is a growing interest in establishing a Malaysia–GCC free trade agreement as shown by Malaysian traders. Key findings from the aforementioned analyses are then constructed by employing a SWOT analysis based on the current trade relation between Malaysia and the Gulf countries in constructing viable recommendation for future relation between Malaysia and the GCC member within the aspirations of OIC.

- Abstract
This study employed the Stimulus–Organism–Response (S-O-R) framework to investigate how social support and quality of the community affect the purpose to donate through donation-based crowdfunding. The online poll generated 359 responses, and the data were statistically analysed using the partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach. Path coefficient analysis is also applied to figure out the outcomes of the relationships between the components. The results showed that service and system quality greatly influenced the donors' trust towards the donation-based crowdfunding. In addition, statistics showed that trust, quality of services, information value, and emotional support played a substantial role in explaining the donation purposes. The results could help donation-based crowdfunding platforms to enhance their success rate of donation campaigns. This study also provided a management application for each relationship and suggested helpful measures in attracting potential donors and retaining them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research aimed to assess the level of religious understanding radicalism among students from the Public Faculty and Religious Faculty. The initial hypothesis suggested that students in the Public Faculty would have a higher level of religious understanding radicalism than those in the Religious Faculty. The study used an ex post facto method and analyzed the data using a t-test. The research was conducted in 2018 at the State Islamic Institute of Surakarta, an Islamic religious college. The results indicated that while students in the Public Faculty had a higher level of religious understanding radicalism compared to those in the Religious Faculty, the hypothesis was not statistically supported. The study implies that religious education is not solely influenced by formal educational backgrounds and suggests that students' interactions with extracurricular organizations significantly influence their religious understanding radicalism. Additionally, the religious education process in the Public Faculty at the State Islamic Institute of Surakarta may contribute to students' more moderate religious understanding. Waqf has been one of the major sources of public financing in Islamic tradition. Since early Islam, waqf serves the needs of the ummah in various realms, including education, social development and public needs. Traditionally, waqf has been in the form of fixed and tangible assets. Up until recently, cash waqf has been proposed as one of the sources of waqf. On the other hand, there has been also a suggestion to innovate the practices of waqf in order to assure that they meet the current challenging world. One of the new innovatives of funding waqf sources apart from cash waqf is Service Waqf. Giving this background, this paper endevour to do a systematic review analysis of the Service Waqf as well as well established cash waqf practices as innovatie way for diversifying waqf source in Malaysia. In reviewing the topics systematically, this paper gathered all related articles from Emerald Insight, Google Scholars, Jstor, and Scopus databases. Relevant journal articles were being searched via the internet in several database sources using advanced searching features available in those database based on specific keywords. The relevant journals were selected based on the latest findings which had been published between year 2010 until 2020. From the systematic review analysis, 20 journal articles regarding ethical issues in gamification were filtered and selected using PRISMA statement. Findings from this systematic analysis show that issues pertaining to the cash waqf were among the major discourse in the waqf innovation. Much have been emphasised on the waqf management and governance and also the reason waqf application in a institution. Less has been given into the service waqf and its benefits to communities. Muslim consumers’ awareness toward halal foods and products has been increasing. The halal concept becomes consumers’ vital concern as it covers wide areas of consumption, though one might perceive it as only a food-related issue. Given this background, this article aims to investigate the factors that influence consumers’ intention to purchase halal-certified foods and products. By using Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior (TPB) as a theoretical framework, this research employed a quantitative survey with a sample of 332 Muslim consumers living in Singapore to examine Singaporean Muslim preferences in purchasing halal foods and products. Data gathered from the survey were then explored and analyzed. Multiple regression analysis results indicate that all TPB variables have a positive and significant influence on the intention to purchase halal-certified products among the Muslim minority in Singapore. Economic and political changes at the global level have simultaneously shifted Malaysia's interests in the Arab Gulf countries. The economic liberalisation and transformation agenda that emerged in these economies are argued to be contributing factors to Malaysia's interest in expanding its economic relationships with the countries. Although the current cooperation between Malaysia and the Arab Gulf countries is aimed at reaping economic benefits, religious values also constitute an important foundation for these relationships. This article seeks to understand why politics, economics and religion remain the key drivers in determining Malaysia's relations with the Arab Gulf countries. The paper also suggests a future direction for engagement between Malaysia and Gulf Cooperation Council countries. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

CHRISTIANS ,AMERICANS ,JEWS ,THEOLOGY ,ANTISEMITISM in language ,PROTESTANT doctrines - Abstract
Israel has always mattered to American Christians. They are among the strongest supporters of the State of Israel in the United States. The paper argues that the support that was extended by American Christians in general and the Christian Right in particular, to Israel and the Jewish people is the continuation of a long tradition in conservative American Christians rooted mainly in their theological doctrine. However, the study shows that the Christian Right is ambivalent in its view on Jews. On the one hand, Jews are considered to be God's chosen people and to have a special Biblical status and role. On the other hand, the Christian Right is allegedly anti-Semitic, as it views Jews as a condemned nation for their rejection of Christ as the Messiah, the reason for which they are unsaved and need to be converted to Christianity. Interestingly, both views, love and hatred of Jews, are based on the Biblical teachings and grounded in conservative Protestant theology; their paradoxical views on Jews are not a new phenomenon among conservative American Christians. Nevertheless, the study found that the support of the American Christians of the establishment of the State of Israel goes beyond theological doctrines or values. In fact, the humanitarian considerations of the liberal Christian and secular organizations in particular, were significant in contributing to the establishment of the Jewish state. HALAL food , *INTERNATIONAL law , *STANDARDS - Abstract
Abstract Background The term halal has been associated with Islam in various areas including services, foods, and product. One of the main focus of halal research is halal certification and standard. The certification process involves verification of halal authenticity of the foods and adherence to Islamic principles. Despite the growing issuance of halal accreditation and efforts in uniting of halal certification, there are significant differences in determining the standard of halal accreditation and halal food regulation particularly between Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia, regardless of being neighbouring nations. Such instance is the variability of standards in determining the content of ethanol in the foods products. Thus, this review endeavours to study the standards in determining the permissible content of ethanol products and to investigate the reasons behind the contradiction in halal food regulation. Scope and approach The review is conducted through the literature regarding the dissimilarities of ethanol permissibility in halal dietary standard between the four countries, and at the same time, in-depth interviews with the corresponding from halal authorities in each country were also carried out. Key findings and conclusions Findings from the analysis suggest that authorities in those four countries differ their judgement based on these four factors; the material of preference for ethanol content; the technique of preference in ethanol detection laboratory; the undetermined constant in Blood Alcoholic Concentration calculation; and Islamic worldview on the usage of Alcohol. This review will be able to provide clarification and future references in constructing universal halal standard of ethanol content in the dietary product. Highlights • There are dissimilarities in the practice of ethanol standard in the halal dietary product, between Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. • The dissimilarities of standards are small, but in industrial scale will burden the halal producer to comply with these neighbouring nations certification law. • It is found that these dissimilarities revolved around four factors, which are material of preference, detection technique, BAC Limit, and Islamic Worldviews.
