The purpose of the experiment was to determine the distribution of shear stresses in the measurement area of a natural and modified wood sample. Previous wood shear tests conducted on a typical Iosipescu specimen have shown that a complex stress state exists at the bottom of the notch. With transverse loading of the samples, flexure occurs and normal stresses arise from the bending moment and thus fibers are deformed. For the investigations oriented on shear, shear with stretching, and shear with compression, a special specimen was prepared which differed by notch geometry from a typical Iosipescu specimen. A new test machine is described in the article, which is equipped with special specimen holders to perform investigations in complex stress conditions. Crack patterns recorded for natural and modified wood are presented. For all tests, numerical finite element model simulations were performed to obtain stress distributions inside the specimens. The calculated stress distributions were visualized as contour line projections for natural and modified wood. Transverse shear strength values for the modified Iosipescu sample were found to exceed the magnitude of previously published ASTM D1037-87 test results. The test results proved that the strength properties of anisotropic materials in a complex state of stress can be assessed with great accuracy. This is very important in engineering applications.

Composite materials are used in many industries. Their mechanical and physical properties as well as their low weight make them suitable for use in many constructions. Their wide application generates a problem with their disposal. Therefore, it is necessary to design new materials based on waste from polyester–glass laminates in order to introduce a closed circuit in the composite production process. The article presents research aimed at determining solid material composites with polyester–glass recyclate, in order to use these materials for modeling the structure. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of recyclate to the polyester–glass composite on the deformation and the value of the Poisson number of the material. During the study, samples from composites with the addition of polyester–glass recyclate were used. Samples made in accordance with the standard for plastics PN-EN ISO 527-4_2000P were subjected to static tensile test on a universal testing machine, with variable load parameters. During the test, the longitudinal and transverse elongations of the samples were measured using a strain gauge measuring system. On the basis of the measurements, the values of Poisson numbers were determined, which allowed for a preliminary assessment of the impact of the recyclate content in the composite on its deformability.

The study aims to analyze the strength properties obtained from three-point bending tests of epoxy-glass composite samples modified by adding rubber recyclate. A pure epoxy-glass composite is used as a comparative variant. The tested materials, which varies in the percentage of rubber recyclate and distribution, are cut through waterjet cutting to minimize the influence of temperature. The results undergo statistical analysis, and the microstructures are examined using scanning electron microscopy. The decreasing bending strength of the composites is observed, as the content of rubber recyclate in the material increased. However, adding rubber recyclate directly into the resin subtly decreases in bending strength compared to adding in the layers between the glass mat layers. Composites with rubber recyclate exhibits lower deflection under load compared to pure composites. The most favorable bending test parameters are obtained for the material containing 5% rubber recyclate distributed in three layers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the results of investigations of the mechanical properties of epoxy–glass composites with the addition of rubber recyclate. For the purposes of the study, seven variants of materials were designed and manufactured, which differed in terms of the percentage of recyclate content (3, 5 and 7%) and the way the recyclate was distributed in the composite (one, two and three layers with a constant share of 5%). Tests of comparative mechanical properties were carried out using a static tensile test. As a result of the conducted tests, the following values were obtained for all variants of materials: tensile strength (Rm), Young's modulus (E) and percentage relative strain ε. In addition, for a deeper analysis of the results obtained, statistical calculations of Kolgomorov–Sinai EK-S metric entropy were performed on the experimental data sets, which were then analyzed. The results of the analysis indicate that the application of metric entropy calculations EK-S can be helpful in identifying changes in the internal structure of the composite material that occur during its loading, and which do not manifest themselves in any other tangible way. The data obtained as a result of the research can be used to optimize production processes and to determine the further direction of development of epoxy–glass composites with the addition of rubber recyclate, while saving time and resources. The paper presents acoustic studies of a multilayer composite made based on Synolite 1967-G-1 polyester resin and glass fabric with a three-way arrangement of +/-45° fibres, Triaxial type and a weight of 860 g/m2. As an addition, rubber recyclate created in the process of disposal of car tires was used. The material was made using the vacuum infusion method. By the vacuum lamination method, composite materials were produced in the form of plates with the addition of rubber recyclate in four variants of the amount of recyclate used in the produced composite - 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. Each variant contained 6 layers of fabric and five layers of rubber recyclate. The samples were tested in the vibroacoustic laboratory on a dedicated measuring station of a set of reverberation chambers without flanking transmission, in which the specific acoustic insulation Rw was determined following PN-EN ISO 10140-2 and related standards, i.e. PN-EN ISO 10140-1, PN-EN ISO 10140-2, PN-EN ISO 10140-4, PN-EN ISO 10140-5 and PN EN ISO 717-1. All manufactured variants of the composite material with the addition of rubber recyclate were characterized by acoustic insulation in the range of Rw = (30.0 ÷ 35.7) dB. High sound insulation parameters for tested panels up to 12 mm thick act as a barrier to counteracting the spread of unwanted airborne noise. Combined with good mechanical properties such as tensile strength, toughness and hardness, they form the basis for the easy design of all shields in many industries. The article presents a method of modifying the strength properties of epoxy–glass composite by changing the percentage composition of the matrix by the addition of rubber recyclate. Taking into account environmental protection and economic conditions in the process of recycling and utilisation of waste, it is advisable to look for applications of non-degradable waste materials. Based on epoxy resin, a glass mat with a random direction of fibres and rubber recyclate, a test material with different percentage compositions was produced. Samples from the manufactured materials were subjected to a static tensile test on a ZwickRoell testing machine using the ARAMIS SRX measuring system. In addition, CT (computerized tomography) scans of the inside of the samples were made using a ZEISS METROTOM 6 Scout tomograph, and observations of the internal structures were made using a scanning electron microscope. The use of optical and microscopic techniques enabled the precise determination of strength parameters of the examined composites and the analysis of the behaviour of samples under load. The analysis of deformations over time in the examined samples showed a beneficial effect of the addition of rubber recyclate on the elastic properties of the examined composites. Currently, there is a noticeable trend of modifying new materials by using additives from the recycling of harmful waste. This is to protect the environment by using waste to produce composites and at the same time to reduce the cost of their production. The article presents an analysis of the impact of the use of rubber recyclate obtained from the utilization of car tires as a sandwich layer of epoxy–glass composites and its impact on the strength parameters of the composite. The presented research is an extension of the previously conducted analyses on composite materials modified with the addition of rubber recyclate. The four variants of the materials produced contained the same percentage amount of rubber recyclate, but differed in the way it was distributed and the number of layers. Static tensile tests as well as impact strength and kinetics of damage to samples made with and without the addition of recyclate were carried out. Observation of the structures of the materials with the use of SEM was also performed. A significant influence of the method of distributing the recyclate in layers on the strength parameters of the materials was found. In the case of composites with three and two sandwich layers of recyclate, more favorable results were obtained compared to the blank sample. In addition, the values of the impact strength measurements were subjected to statistical analysis at the significance level of α = 95%. The distributions were tested for normality with the Shapiro–Wilk test, differences between pairs were tested with the Student's t-test for dependent groups, and ANOVA differences were tested for independent groups. Using the Student's t-test, it was confirmed that between the pairs of variables in the configurations reference sample and modified sample, there were significant statistical differences in the distribution of impact strength measurement results for all the analyzed materials. Statistical analysis showed a significant usefulness in the selection of the material with the best strength parameters and a significant role of statistical methods in the study of anisotropic materials. The article attempts to assess the possibility of using rubber recyclate as a component of composite materials. Research is being carried out to develop a technology for the production of composite materials with the addition of rubber waste. These tests are aimed at increasing the reliability and safety of the operation of structures exposed to longterm impact of devices generating vibrations. At the same time, work is underway on the use of complex composite surfaces as sound-absorbing elements. Polymer composites are materials that are used in many industries. Their wide application has a direct impact on the amount of post-production and post-consumer waste. The global problem with recycling, especially of fiber-reinforced polymeric materials, has prompted research into methods of their use. Previous research on composite materials with polyester–glass recyclate showed a decrease in mechanical properties. The construction material should have the highest mechanical properties. Based on the literature, it was found that the use of nanoadditives may have a positive effect on the parameters of the materials. The use of gamma aluminum nanopowder, in a small amount can significantly increase the mechanical properties of composites with polyester–glass recyclate, and thus can affect the application of these materials to structural elements. The article is devoted to the research on the hardness of composite materials with polyester–glass recyclate and gamma aluminum nanopowder. The main goal is to investigate the possibility of using a nanoadditive as a material, increasing the mechanical properties of composites with polyester–glass recyclate, so as to create a recycled material with the highest possible strength parameters. Hardness tests were performed using the Barcol method. For each composite material, 30 measurements were made in order to subject the results to a statistical analysis. Using parametric statistical tests it was shown that the obtained hardness values at the assumed level of statistical significance pv = 0.05 for comparisons for the samples of the reference material (B0) do not differ by chance, while for the comparisons in the configurations of the reference material (B0) with the modified materials, (R10, A2, R10A2) they do not differ by accident. Studies have shown that the addition of 2% gamma aluminum nanopowder slightly lowers the hardness of a pure polyester–glass composite, but the same additive allows the hardness of composite materials to be increased with the addition of glass recyclate. This is of particular importance for the development of the optimal composition of polyester–glass composites with the addition of recyclate, which will have good strength properties and at the same time enable the reuse of composite waste. The aim of the research was to analyze the strength parameters of epoxy-glass sandwich composites with the addition of rubber recyclate. Material samples were subjected to a static tensile test performed on a universal testing machine in accordance with the current standard for fiber-reinforced composite materials. The test results showed that the addition of rubber recyclate increases the plastic parameters of the composite, which allows considering the use of the tested material for structures loaded with the vibration and noise scale. The use of rubber recyclate to modify the strength parameters of the composite allows to reduce the amount of rubber waste and ensures the durability of the new material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates the structure and mechanical characteristics of a coating based on an AlSi12 alloy, obtained by centrifugal induction surfacing as an alternative to a bronze sliding bearing. To provide for the adhesion of an aluminum layer to the inner surface of a steel bearing housing, a sublayer of low-melting metals was formed, while the formation of the main layer and the sublayer was done in a single processing cycle. The low-melting metals had higher density, which ensured that the sublayer was created at the interface with the steel bearing housing under the action of centrifugal forces. It is shown that the low-melting sublayer forms a strong bond both with the aluminum alloy and with the steel base. Lead and tin are used as low-melting additives. It has been established that lead or tin used in a sublayer are indirectly involved in the structural formation of boundary layers of steel and aluminum claddings, acting as a medium for diffuse mass transfer. Thus, lead is not included in the composition of the main coating and does not change the chemical composition of the aluminum layer. After the addition of tin, the aluminum develops a dendritic structure, with tin captured in the interdendritic space. In this case, the deposited layer is saturated with iron with the formation of intermetallic (Fe, Al, Si) compounds, both at the interface and in the coating volume. This paper offers an explanation of the mechanism through which Pb and Sn act on the structure formation of the coating, and on the boundary layer of the steel bearing housing. Tribological tests have shown that the resulting materials are a promising option for plain bearings and highly competitive with the CuSn10P bronze. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
