In this study were used 40 newborn singleton Akkaraman and Merino lambs with 4 trial groups consisting of selected 10 lambs homogeneous according to race and gender. Trial was carried out 100 days, covering 5 feeding periods with 21-day periods the first application is on the 14th day from the birth of lambs. The lambs were fed with lamb starter feed for the first two months, then with lamb grower feed ad-libitum and 250 g/day/head dry alfalfa hay. At the end of the study; it was determined that the lowest total antioxidant status (TAS) was in Akkaraman male lambs, the highest was in Merino’s female, and it was found higher in Merino females than males (P, Bu çalışmada, ırk ve cinsiyete göre homojen seçilmiş 10 kuzudan oluşan 4 deneme grubu ile 40 adet yeni doğan tekiz Akkaraman ve Merinos kuzular kullanılmıştır. This study was performed to determine the blood reference values of hematological and biochemical parameters in Hair goats at different ages. For this aim, clinically healthy Hair goats (n = 180, ages of six month and 1-3 years male and female) were used to collect blood samples. In whole blood, white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC)and red cell distribution width (RDW) were evaluated. The levels of, albumin, total protein, globulin, glucose, total bilirubin, urea, creatinine, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), creatine kinase (CK), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and iron levels were investigated in sera. Age and sex had no effect on the cell structures of blood. In the either sex (male or female), age had no effect. However, sex had a significant effect on the blood cell structures except for WBC, HGB, and HCT. Albumin, protein, calcium, AST, ALT, ALP and magnesium values were not different among groups. Both the age and sex of the goats had significant effects on blood levels of glucose, phosphorus, urea, cholesterol, creatinine, GGT, CK and total bilirubin. In conclusion, this was the first study reporting the hematologic and biochemical parameters in blood of the Hair goats. The results indicated that these parameters could show variations under physiological conditions due to age and gender.

We aimed to examine the effct of hot-iron disbudding on serum thiol-disulphide homeostasis levels as a marker of oxidant stress in relationship with trauma in calves under sedation, local anaesthesia, and the non-steroidal anti-inflmmatory drug ketoprofen. A total of 30 Holstein calves were enrolled in the study and allocated into three groups: disbudded following sedation with xylazine (n=10) (group I); disbudded following sedation (xylazine) and local anaesthesia with lidocaine (n=10) (group II); and disbudded after sedation (xylazine), local anaesthesia (lidocaine), and ketoprofen (n=10) (group III). Blood samples were withdrawn before (0. min) and 30, 60, 90, and 120 min after dehorning. Serum native thiols, total thiols, and disulphide levels were detected with a novel assay. Native thiol and total thiol levels were reduced in all groups without any significance during the study period. At the 90th min of the study, native thiol levels in group II were significantly lower than in groups I and III. There were no significant alterations in total thiol levels in both groups. Disulphide levels showed no significant changes in group, time, and group by time interactions, but at the 60th min, groups I and III had the lowest levels. Disulphite/ native thiol, disulphite/total thiol, and native thiol/total thiol levels had significant group alterations in the 60th min. The reduction of native thiol and total thiol levels in all groups without significance might be related to the antioxidant activity of plasma; however, it is thought that the pain management procedures should be related to the sensitive oxidative balance by thiols., Bu çalışmada sedasyon, lokal anestezi ve non-steroidal bir ilaç olan ketoprofen uygulanmış sıcak koterizasyon işlemi ile boynuzsuzlaştırılan buzağılarda oksidatif stresin değerlendirilmesinde tiyol-disülfüt homeostazına olan etkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Çalışmaya toplam 30 adet Holstein buzağı dahil edilerek üç gruba ayrıldı: sedasyon (xylazine) işlemini takiben boynuzsuzlaştırılan (n=10) (grup I); sedasyon (xylazine) ve lidokain ile lokal anestezi işlemi sonrasında boynuzsuzlaştırılan (n=10) (grup II); ve sedasyon (xylazine), local anestezi (lidocaine) ve ketoprofen uygulaması sonrasında boynuzsuzlaştırılan (n=10) (group III). Kan örnekleri, boynuzsuzlaştırmadan önce (0. dak) ve 30, 60, 90 ve 120 dakika sonra olacak şekilde toplandı. Serum natif tiyol, total tiyol ve disülfür seviyeleri yeni bir test ile belirlendi. Çalışma süresince natif tiyol ve total tiyol seviyelerinde istatistiksel anlamlı olmayan azalmalar belirlendi. Araştırmanın 90. dakikasında grup II’de bulunan hayvanların natif tiyol seviyelerinin grup I ve III’e göre istatistiksel anlamlı düşüktü. Total tiyol seviyelerinde ise gruplar arasında istatistiksel anlamlı farklılıkların olmadığı belirlendi. Disülfit seviyelerinde grup, zaman ve grup zaman arasında farklılıklar belirlenmezken, araştırmanın 60. dakikasında grup I ve III’te en düşük seviyelere geldiği belirlendi. Disülfit/natif tiyol, disülfit/total tiyol ve natif tiyol/total tiyol seviyelerininde 60. dakikada gruplar arasında istatistiksel anlamlı değişimler gösterdiği belirlendi. Natif tiyol ve total tiyol seviyelerindeki bu azalmaların plazmadaki antioksidan kapasite ile ilişkili olabileceği, ancak uygulanan ağrı yönetimi prosedürlerinin tiyol ile oluşturulan hassas oksidatif dengeyi etkilediği düşünüldü.

Giardia duodenalis is a binuclear flagellated protozoan that can infect birds, reptiles and many mammals. Thepathogen is one of the most important causes of diarrhea in humans and farm animals. The aim of this study wasto determine the changes in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels in naturally infected lambs with Giardia duodenalis.The animal material of the study was used Sakız sheep which had naturally infected with Giardia duodenalisbetween 15-35 days of age from the Aydın region (n = 30), healthy lambs in the same age range (n = 15) and bothsexes. Sterile stool samples with the method of rectal touching of fecal samples from infected and healthyanimals, blood samples were obtained in a total of 5 ml of v.jugularis according to the technique in order todetermine serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels. Giardia screening was performed by direct microscopicexamination of stool samples. 25-OH-D levels were measured with Savant brand fluorescent immunoassay devicefrom the obtained serum samples. Mann-Whitney U test was used in statistical analysis. Statistically significantchanges were observed in 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels of healthy and natural infected animals (p, Giardia duodenalis kuşlar, reptiller ve bir çok memeli hayvanı enfekte edebilen binükleuslu flagellalı bir protozoondur. Enfekte ve sağlıklı hayvanlardan dışkı örnekleri rektal tuşe yöntemi ile steril dışkı örnekleri, serum 25-hidroksi vitamin D3 seviyelerinin belirlenmesi amacı ile de tekniğine uygun olarak v.jugularisden toplamda 5 ml olacak şekilde kan örnekleri alındı. Dışkı örneklerinden direkt mikroskobik bakı yöntemi ile giardia taraması yapıldı. Elde edilen serum örneklerinden Savant marka flöresan immunoassay cihazı ile 25-OH-D seviyeleri ölçüldü.
