Context: Sport-specific adaptations in shoulder rotation range of motion (ROM) and the relationship with humeral torsion have been described in overhead-throwing sports. However, information is lacking for other shoulder-loading sports such as field hockey. Therefore, this study's purpose was to evaluate humeral torsion in elite, male field hockey players and explore its association with shoulder ROM. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-five male, elite field hockey players were included. Humeral torsion and shoulder external and internal rotation ROM were evaluated bilaterally by ultrasound and an inclinometer smartphone application, respectively. Results: Field hockey players showed a significantly increased humeral retroversion on the dominant compared with the nondominant side (P <.001; Cohen d = 1.75), along with a significantly increased external (P =.004; Cohen d = −0.64) and decreased internal rotation ROM (P =.003; Cohen d = 0.65). This finding illustrates a shift in total shoulder rotational ROM arc. Correlation analysis showed a significant moderate association between the increased humeral retroversion and decreased internal rotation ROM on the dominant side (r =.523). Conclusions: Elite male field hockey athletes show sport-specific adaptations regarding humeral torsion and shoulder rotation ROM, similar to throwing athletes. These findings increase our insight into the field hockey athlete's shoulder, which is essential to optimize performance and assist in correctly interpreting shoulder rotational ROM measurements. Despite previous support for plyometric training, optimal dosing strategies remain unclear. Purpose: To investigate vertical and horizontal jump kinetic performance following a low-volume plyometric stimulus with progressively increased session jump volume. Methods: Sixteen academy rugby players (20.0 [2.0] y; 103.0 [17.6] kg; 184.3 [5.5] cm) volunteered for this study. Vertical and horizontal jump sessions were conducted 1 week apart and consisted of a 40-jump low-volume plyometric stimulus using 4 exercises, after which volume was progressively increased to 200 jumps, using countermovement jump (CMJ) for vertical sessions and horizontal broad jump (HBJ) for horizontal sessions. Jump performance was assessed via force-plate analysis at baseline (PRE-0), following the low-volume plyometric stimulus (P-40), and every subsequent 10 jumps until the end of the session (P-50, P-60, P-70,... P-200). Results: The low-volume stimulus was effective in potentiating HBJ (2% to 5%) but not CMJ (0% to −7%) performance (P <.001). The HBJ performance enhancements were maintained throughout the entire high-volume session, while CMJ realized small but significant decrements (−5% to −7%) in jump height P-50 to P-80 before recovering to presession values. Moreover, increases in eccentric impulse (5% to 24%; P <.001) in both sessions were associated with decreased or maintained concentric impulse, indicating a breakdown in performance-augmenting mechanisms and less effective power transfer concentrically after moderate volumes. In survey sampling, auxiliary information is used to precisely estimate the finite population parameters. There are several approaches available in the literature that provide a practical method for incorporating auxiliary information during the estimation stage. In order to effectively utilize the auxiliary information, a geographically weighted regression (GWR) model-assisted integrated estimator of finite population total under a two-phase sampling design has been proposed in this article. Spatial simulation studies have been conducted to empirically assess the statistical properties of the proposed estimator. In the presence of spatial non-stationarity, empirical findings reveal that the proposed estimator outperforms all existing estimators such as two-phase HT, ratio, and regression estimators, demonstrating the importance of spatial information in survey sampling. The purpose of this quasiexperimental study was to test the effects of wearing the NewGait rehabilitative device on walking abilities in individuals with foot drop. The study involved 16 participants with foot drops caused by stroke (11 participants), multiple sclerosis (one participant), and peripheral neuropathies (four individuals). During a single testing session, participants walked 12 m at their self‐selected speed in four experimental conditions: walking without any orthotic device; walking while wearing a regular plastic posterior leaf ankle foot orthosis (AFO); walking with the NewGait device assisting ankle dorsiflexion only; and walking with the NewGait device assisting the hip, knee, and ankle joint motions. Body motions during walking were recorded using a 3D system for motion analysis and analyzed with a set of spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters and a gait decomposition index. The gait decomposition index indicated sagittal interjoint coordination in the three joint pairs (hip–knee, knee–ankle, and hip–ankle) of the paretic (foot drop) leg during walking and was validated in a previous study. Overall, wearing all three orthotic devices improved the gait velocity, ankle dorsiflexion, and foot clearance compared to gait trials in which no assistive devices were used. However, wearing the AFO significantly restricted the plantarflexion range of motion and decreased interjoint coordination as measured by joint decomposition. In contrast, the NewGait device altered the ankle plantarflexion motions but also increased coordinated movement (reduced the decomposition) in most lower‐extremity joint pairs and conditions. This experimental study investigates the effect of the cutting parameters of the Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) process of Ti-6Al-4V alloy material on surface roughness (Ra), cutting time (t) and Material Removal Rate (MRR) then solve the Multiple Objective Optimization Problem using separate Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods namely Entropy-Weighted TOPSIS (E-TOPSIS), MOORA, SAW, VIKOR, and WPM. Focusing on nine 3-levels variants including Operating Voltage (OV), Pulse-On Time (Ton), Pulse-Off Time (Toff), Short-Circuit Off Time (AFF), Secondary Voltage (SV), Feed Rate (WF), Tension (WT), Water Pressure (WL) and Material Cutting Speed (F). Due to the large number of variants studied, the Taguchi L27 experimental design was chosen to reduce the number of experiments while still ensuring reliability in assessing the impact of technological parameters on responses in the study. The optimization results from the different methods indicated two distinct optimal outcomes. According to the E-TOPSIS, MOORA, and SAW, the optimal result is a Ra of 3.27 μm, a t of 7.37 min, and an MRR of 7.45 mm3/min. This result suggests a balanced and harmonious optimization among all criteria. On the other hand, the figures VIKOR and WPM methods are 2.87 μm, 9.57 min, and 5.74 mm3/min, respectively. These results indicate a higher priority for certain criteria, reflected in the lower Ra, longer cutting time, and a smaller MRR in comparison to the figures for the remaining MCDM methods. The different optimal results achieved by various methods highlight that each method is suited to and excels with different sets of values. Therefore, in each specific research or production process, comparing and choosing results calculated by different methods provides a comprehensive view, aiding in making appropriate decisions. Simple Summary: Calving interval data by the National Association of Hungarian Holstein Friesian Breeders in Hungary were processed. According to our results the relatively low proportion of genetic variances indicates that the selection of Holstein-Friesian cattle for reproductive traits (such as calving interval) may render low magnitudes and long-term responses. Nevertheless, the economic importance of these traits should not be overlooked. Our results on genetic trends, according to which the average calving interval decreased a little during the examined period, suggest that, despite the relatively low genetic determination, it is possible to achieve some improvement in reproductive traits. Calving interval (CI) data (N = 37,263) from 17,319 cows born 2008–2018 in six herds were assessed. The data were made available by the National Association of Hungarian Holstein Friesian Breeders in Hungary. The effects of some genetic and environmental factors, population genetic parameters, breeding value (BV) of sires, and phenotypic and genetic trends of the CI were estimated. The GLM method was used for studying different effects on the CI. BLUP animal model was used for heritability (h2) and BV estimation. Linear regression analyses were applied for the trend calculation. The mean of the CI was 412.2 ± 2.0 days. The h2 of the CI proved to be low (0.07 ± 0.01 and 0.08 ± 0.01). There were relatively high differences among the sires in the estimated BV. Based on the phenotypic trend calculation, the CI of cows showed decreasing direction by an average of 1.80 days per year (R2 = 0.94; p < 0.01). In the case of genetic trend calculation, the average BV of sires in the CI has decreased −4.94 and −0.31 days per year (R2 = 0.91 and 0.41; p < 0.01). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Cardiac injury caused by iron overload is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with beta-thalassemia, owing to frequent blood transfusion, increased iron overload, and blood hemolysis. Objective This research aimed to assess several novel cardiac biomarkers in the blood samples of children and adult patients with beta-thalassemia major (βTM), along with their respective control groups. These biomarkers included endothelin 1 (ET-1), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15), and renalase (RNLS). Methods This case-control study was done on 46 patients with βTM (23 children <18 years, and 23 adults ≥18 years) from the Genetic Hematology Center in Thi-Qar province, Iraq, and 42 comparable controls in 2 groups (21 for each group) in the period from February to April 2023. Results Levels of ET-1, NT-proBNP, ANP, GDF-15, RNLS, and ferritin were higher in the children and adults with βTM than in the control subjects. Conclusion Elevations of the novel cardiac biomarkers ET-1, NT-proBNP, ANP, GDF-15, and RNLS in the sera of children and adult patients with βTM when compared with comparable control subjects confirm that the majority of patients with βTM are at risk of cardiac and cardiovascular complications even when there are no obvious symptoms, especially in children, which gives suitable predictive biomarkers. Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to assess how age influences masseter vestibular evoked myogenic potential (mVEMP) parameters by utilizing 500-Hz tone burst stimuli delivered through air conduction. Method: The study involved 110 participants ranging from 15 to 60 years of age, grouped into five categories, all of whom had no previous issues related to their vestibular system. The participants were exposed to 500-Hz tone burst stimuli at 125 dB SPL through ER-3A inserts. These stimuli were presented to one ear at a time, with alternating polarity. A Tukey's honestly significant difference test was conducted to compare rectified and unrectified amplitude, along with latencies (P11 and N21) and the asymmetric ratio across all age groups. Additionally, a multivariate analysis of variance was performed to assess the impact of sex on the study variables. Results: All 110 participants (220 ears) in the study provided mVEMP responses, encompassing 100% of the subjects. The results revealed a significant reduction in both amplitude and latency extension for the P11 and N21 peaks. Interestingly, P11 latency was also prolonged in the youngest participants (Group 1), suggesting ongoing maturation of the system even beyond the age of 16 years. Moreover, a significant sex difference was observed in the P11 latencies. However, there were no substantial sex differences (p >.05)inN1peaklatency,peak-to- peak amplitude, rectified amplitude, and asymmetric ratio. Conclusions: Changes in structure occur due to degeneration, and the quantity of vestibular sensory hair cells gradually diminishes with age. The rate of decline is faster in semicircular canals compared to end organs, as observed by Merchant et al. (2000). Following a linear degeneration starting at the age of 40 years, a continuous reduction in sensory cells and primary neurons takes place until approximately 40% of vestibular sensory cells are lost by the age of 75 years and insufficient maturation can lead to prolonged peaks and reduced amplitudes compared with those that are considered normal. Purpose: Inspired by a preliminary survey of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) literature conducted by Friberg et al. (2014), the current study aimed to expand the original study's findings--that SoTL was rarely published in the communication sciences and disorders (CSD) literature from 2009 to 2013--to the subsequent 8-year period (2014--2021). The latter period was of particular relevance considering the dissolution of one American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)--affiliated publication and the addition of another non--ASHA-affiliated publication during that time. Method: Ten peer-reviewed CSD journals and the articles published in them were identified via a survey of the literature that used narrowly defined criteria developed in collaboration with a librarian. Five trained CSD graduate student raters compared a definition of SoTL to article abstracts to determine whether each should have been categorized as SoTL. Part 1 of the study investigated an 8-year time span, Part 2 investigated the remaining nine journals in the subsequent 5 years, and Part 3 investigated publication rates of SoTL in Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders (TLCSD) alone. Results: Part 1 of the study revealed that publication rates of SoTL were extremely low in the 10 surveyed CSD journals in the 8-year time span investigated. A similar and diminishing trend was found in Part 2. Even smaller percentages of journals were dedicated to SoTL. Part 3 confirmed that relatively large amounts of CSD-specific SoTL have been published in TLCSD since its inception in 2017. Conclusions: As of 2021, SoTL articles continued to be uncommonly published in CSD journals. Until recently, scholarly teachers attempting to apply SoTL in the classroom had limited resources. Beginning in 2017, TLCSD has provided an outlet for SoTL, whereas other CSD journals seem to have published less of it. Objective: To evaluate the clinical features and perinatal outcomes of antenatally diagnosed fetuses with omphalocele and gastroschisis. Material and Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center, cohort study of prenatally diagnosed fetuses with omphalocele and gastroschisis followed-up and delivered at a university hospital. Demographic, pregnancy, birth and perinatal outcomes were compared between gastroschisis and omphalocele. Results: A total of 75 fetuses with omphalocele and 21 cases with gastroschisis were evaluated. The mean maternal age of women carrying a fetus with omphalocele was significantly higher than the women with gastroschisis (p=0.001). Associated structural anomalies were found in 53.3% and 4.7% of fetuses with omphalocele and gastroschisis, respectively (p<0.001). The rate of chromosomal anomaly was 8.3% in pregnancies with omphalocele. In liveborn pregnancies, the mean gestational age at delivery and birth weight did not differ between the study groups. Time to postoperative oral intake, duration of parenteral nutrition and length of hospital stay were significantly longer in babies with gastroschisis than omphalocele (p<0.01). Rates of termination, intrauterine, neonatal and infant death of fetuses with omphalocele were 25.3%, 6.7%, 10.7% and 2.7% respectively. Time to postoperative oral intake, duration of parenteral nutrition and duration of hospitalization were significantly longer in babies with complex compared to simple gastroschisis (p<0.01). Survival rates were 95.2%, 82.9% and 20% in fetuses with gastroschisis, isolated and non-isolated omphalocele, respectively. Conclusion: Associated structural and chromosomal anomalies were significantly more common in fetuses with omphalocele compared to those with gastroschisis. Prognosis of fetuses with omphalocele depended on the associated structural and chromosomal anomalies, whereas bowel compromise was the main determining factor in gastroschisis. The pharmacokinetics (PK) of naloxegol were characterized in pediatric subjects, aged 6 months or older to less than 18 years who either have or are at risk of developing opioid‐induced constipation following single dose administration. Subjects grouped as aged 12 years or older to less than 18 years, 6 months or older to less than 12 years, and 6 months or older to less than 6 years, received a single oral dose of naloxegol at doses that were estimated to achieve plasma exposures comparable to adult 12.5‐ or 25‐mg doses. Intensive and sparse plasma naloxegol samples were collected to assess naloxegol concentrations. Data were combined with previously collected adult PK data and used to estimate PK parameters using population PK analyses. Naloxegol PK was described using a 2‐compartment model with Weibull‐type absorption. Neither age nor body weight was identified as a significant covariate indicating similar PK properties in adult and pediatric subjects. PK estimates in the youngest age group were approximately 80% less than those in adults (12.5‐mg equivalent dose). Exposures in the other pediatric groups were similar to those in adult equivalent doses. The PK of naloxegol were characterized as linear over the dose range, with no clinically significant covariates and comparable PK characteristics in adults and pediatric subjects aged 6 months or older. Advances in hierarchical modeling have improved estimation of ecological parameters from count data, especially those quantifying population abundance, distribution, and dynamics by explicitly accounting for observation processes, particularly incomplete detection. Even hierarchical models that account for incomplete detection, however, cannot compensate for data limitations stemming from poorly planned sampling. Ecologists therefore need guidance for planning count‐based studies that follow established sampling theory, collect appropriate data, and apply current modeling approaches to answer their research questions. We synthesize available literature relevant to guiding count‐based studies. Considering the central historical and ongoing contributions of avian studies to ecological knowledge, we focus on birds as a case study for this review, but the basic principles apply to all populations whose members are sufficiently observable to be counted. The sequence of our review represents the thought process in which we encourage ecologists to engage 1) the research question(s) and population parameters to measure, 2) sampling design, 3) analytical framework, 4) temporal design, and 5) survey protocol. We also provide 2 hypothetical demonstrations of these study plan components representing different research questions and study systems. Mirroring the structure of hierarchical models, we suggest researchers primarily focus on the ecological processes of interest when designing their approach to sampling, and wait to consider logistical constraints of data collection and observation processes when developing the survey protocol. This trial was carried out to investigate the effect of forced air warming in various body areas of women on hypothermia during cesarean delivery. The patients in the study groups (n = 76) were assigned to the full-body warming group, upper-extremity warming group, lower-extremity warming group, and control groups. The intervention groups received forced-air warming 30 min before the surgery and continued until 30 min after surgery. The incidence of hypothermia was significantly higher in the control group than in the other groups at the 60th minute of the operation (p < 0.01). The intervention and control groups showed significant differences in the frequency of shivering at the entrance to the PACU (p = 0.001). Thermal comfort scores have significant difference between the control group and all of the intervention groups (p<.001). BACKGROUND: Long-time judo training can lead athletes to develop upper limb asymmetry and shoulder asymmetry during force production, mainly in the action of pulling, pushing, and throwing; that requires higher strength and velocity of the internal and external rotators of the shoulders, which may also result in shoulder injury, or a decrease in judo performance. OBJECTIVE: To investigate asymmetries in concentric force of the internal and external shoulder rotators of the dominant and non-dominant upper limbs in high-level judokas at angular velocities of 60, 180, and 300∘/s. METHODS: 14 highly trained male judokas (age 24.4 ± 4.8 yrs.; body mass 87.9 ± 18.7 kg; height 1.8 ± 0.1 m). All participants performed 5 attempts of movement concentric internal and external rotation of the shoulder with 3 angular velocities (60∘/s, 180∘/s, and 300∘/s) in an isokinetic dynamometer (Cybex® Humac Norm Dynamometer CSMI, model 502140). The data were analyzed by independent t-student (discrete analysis) a statistical parametric mapping (SPM) curve (one-dimensional analysis). RESULTS: There was no difference in dominant vs. non-dominant for discrete analysis (p > 0.05). There was no difference in dominant vs. non-dominant for SPM analysis. None of the comparisons surpassed the comparison cut-off (tcrit) for the t -test (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Based on results, judokas do not present significant asymmetries in concentric force of external or internal shoulder rotators when compared to the dominant vs. the non-dominant upper limb according to discrete and one-dimensional (SPM) analysis. Supercuspidal representations are usually infinite-dimensional, so the size of such a representation cannot be measured by its dimension; the formal degree is a better alternative. Hiraga, Ichino, and Ikeda conjectured a formula for the formal degree of a supercuspidal in terms of its L-parameter only. Our first main result is to compute the formal degrees of the supercuspidal representations constructed by Yu. Background: Diabetes is a chronic condition that may become dangerous if there is insufficient insulin to help the body function properly. The proper care for diabetes depends on how well patients observe guidelines and prescriptions; consequently, patient education is critical. Poor learning may cause bad treatment and complications or other problems related to the disease. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate patients' knowledge of diabetes, assigning a knowledge (K) score out of 100, and investigate the possible impact of educating patients, through general means or via healthcare professionals, on patient knowledge of diabetes control demonstrated in the absence/presence of diabetic complications. Methods: This multi-center interview-based cross-sectional study used a questionnaire in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. This study was conducted on adults with diabetes who were aged 15–80. We used the Michigan Diabetic Knowledge Test (MDKT) to assess the knowledge of patients with diabetes. Results: This study included 364 participants. The gender distribution was 48.33% male and 51.67% female. Most of them had type 2 diabetes (T2DM) without insulin (48.63%), followed by those with T2DM on insulin (36.26%), and patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) (15.11%). Patients with T2DM had significantly higher K scores than patients with type 1. Additionally, T2DM non-insulin patients' k-scores significantly exceeded those with T1DM. General and healthcare education both helped increase patients' K-scores. Mostly, patients with diabetes without any complications had significantly higher knowledge compared to those having them. Lastly, regardless of whether the education was delivered by general or professional means, the effect on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) levels was not significant. Conclusions: Our study revealed that patients with T2DM exhibited higher knowledge than patients with T1DM. Furthermore, receiving education, whether by a healthcare professional or by general means, improved the knowledge levels of patients with T2DM but not patients with T1DM. Regarding diabetes complications, it was found that those with a higher level of knowledge had fewer complications. However, no evidence receiving education influenced the levels of HbA1C, neither in patients with T1DM nor T2DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background & Objective: The endometriosis treatment was critical due to complications associated with current drug delivery system. The present study was conducted with aim to compare the curative effect of Vitamin D3 (VTD3) and Omega-3 (OG3) with Diphereline during the treatment of endometriosis. Materials & Methods: In this study, endometriosis was induced in different groups containing 60 adult female rats. The rat model was categorized into 6 groups untreated and treated (Olive Oil (solvent), VTD3 (42 mcg/kg/day), OG3 (450 mg/kg/day), VTD3+OG3, Diphereline (3 mg/kg/day)). The suspension containing combination of Diphereline and supplements was injected and treated for 4 weeks to analyze the effect of supplements. The interleukin -6 (IL-6) and Tumor necrosis factor - alpha (TNFa) inflammatory responses were measured from the serum samples while endometrial implants was dissected and histopathological investigation was done. Results: At the end of four weeks, pathologic score decreased significantly with simultaneous measurement of inflammation score of endometriotic lesion, size of implant area, IL-6, TNFa response and compared with untreated female rat. No significant different was observed in groups undergoing treatment of VTD3, OG3 and Diphereline. The combined effect of VTD3+OG3 has similar responses with Diphereline treated endometrial implants. Conclusion: treatment of VTD3 deficiency and making a change in dietary habits of high-risk population for endometriosis from adolescence may also play a preventative role in adulthood. Elective surgeries were postponed during the COVID-19 pandemic to alleviate healthcare strains, affecting majority of elective orthopaedic surgeries such as total knee arthroplasties (TKAs). The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact on knee function and quality of life of patients who had their planned TKA postponed due to the pandemic. This is a retrospective analysis of data collected in a tertiary hospital. Patients included were diagnosed with primary knee osteoarthritis and they were initially scheduled for primary TKA between January to April 2020 but surgery was postponed by at least 6 months from the initial operative date. 160 patients were included in this study (53 males and 107 females, mean age 68.0 ± 8.1). Patients were assessed prior to initial surgery date and assessed again, prior to the postponed surgery date. Clinical scores included Knee Society Function Score (KSFS), Knee Society Knee Score (KSKS), Oxford Knee scores (OKS) and Short-Form 36 Physical and Mental Component Scores. (SF36 PCS and MCS). Paired T-test was performed for parametric data whereas Wilcoxon signed-rank analysis was performed for non-parametric data. Comparing initial preoperative versus postponement preoperative scores, the cohort had significantly poorer KSKS (38.4 ± 15.4 and 36.5 ± 15.4, p = 0.034), SF36 PCS (34.3 ± 9.2 and 32.7 ± 8.6, p = 0.02) and OKS (34.9 ± 0.77 and 35.8 ± 8.6, p = 0.02) scores respectively. The postponement of elective TKAs has resulted in a significant deterioration of knee scores and physical quality of live scores of patients in a short span of 6 months. Background: Although there are a growing number of studies investigating the benefits of music therapy interventions with patients diagnosed with cancer, few studies have taken an approach that specifically examines indices of perceived well-being in women with breast cancer. Overcoming these challenges can be an important step in the recovery process. Purpose: The purpose of our study was to know the positive influence of responsive music therapy through gong sounds, emitted live, on different areas of well-being of women with breast cancer. Methods: Four individual sessions of responsive music therapy with live gong sounds were conducted in which three women (M = 54; SD = 5.57) participated both in the music therapy program and in the completion of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Breast (FACT-B) and a semi-structured interview with ad hoc designed questions about perception of qualitative aspects. Results: The results showed that the music therapy sessions significantly improved, p =.043 < 0.05, various domains of perceived well-being in women with breast cancer. Discussion: This article highlights several key benefits associated with music therapy and various indices of well-being in women with breast cancer, identifies the limitations of the study, and discusses the findings. It is considered necessary to replicate this practice in future studies that include a larger sample and age range over longer follow-up periods. Translocation is one strategy to reestablish populations of scaled quail (Callipepla squamata). Initial reproductive success post‐translocation is important for establishing short‐lived species such as quail, but factors influencing reproductive success are poorly understood. We evaluated the effect of source population and variation in delayed release strategy (1−9 weeks) on nest initiation and nest survival of wild‐caught, translocated scaled quail. We trapped and translocated scaled quail in 2016–2017 from source populations in the Edwards Plateau and Rolling Plains ecoregions of Texas, USA, to a large contiguous (>40,000 ha) release site in Knox County, Texas. We used a multi‐state mark‐recapture model with state uncertainty to test for effects of release treatment, source population, age, release location, and year on nest initiation and survival. Increased length of holding time decreased re‐nesting effort. Yearlings were more likely to initiate nests than adults and the probability of re‐nesting was lower during the year with drought conditions. There was no effect of source population on any of the parameters we evaluated. Future scaled quail reintroduction efforts may benefit from prioritizing translocation of yearlings and conducting translocations when drought conditions are not forecasted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Health literacy (HL) is correlated with the risk of mortality and readmission during cardiac rehabilitation. However, the correlation between HL and utility-based health-related quality of life (HRQOL) scores has been poorly documented. Therefore, we examined the correlation between HL and utility-based HRQOL scores in participants undergoing cardiac rehabilitation. Methods: The data of 448 participants undergoing cardiac rehabilitation from the Kobe-Cardiac Rehabilitation Project for People Around the World (K-CREW) clinical trial were analyzed. Participants were divided into low and high HL cohorts. We used the 14-item Health Literacy Scale (HLS-14) to assess HL and the EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire to assess HRQOL at discharge. The utility scores of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire were calculated. The median age was 71.0 [61.0–78.0] years, 75.7% of participants were male, and 60% had a low HL. Results: Median utility score was 0.88 [0.75–1.00]. Regarding the dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L questionnaire, more than 60% of participants responded positively to the severity level of "no problem." In the comparative analysis, the low HL cohort had a statistically significantly lower utility score than that of the high HL cohort (p-value = 0.03). The multivariate analysis revealed that the HLS-14 scores were not statistically significantly correlated with the utility scores. Conclusion: Participants with low HL had lower HRQOL in the comparative analysis. However, multivariate analysis revealed that HL was not statistically significantly correlated with utility-based HRQOL scores. ABSTRACT In this paper, we revisit the power curves in ANOVA simultaneous component analysis (ASCA) based on permutation testing and introduce the population curves derived from population parameters describing the relative effect among factors and interactions. The relative effect has important practical implications: The statistical power of a given factor depends on the design of other factors in the experiment and not only of the sample size. Thus, understanding the relative power in a specific experimental design can be extremely useful to maximize our capability of success when planning the experiment. In the paper, we derive relative and absolute population curves, where the former represent statistical power in terms of the normalized effect size between structure and noise, and the latter in terms of the sample size. Both types of population curves allow us to make decisions regarding the number and nature (fixed/random) of factors, their relationships (crossed/nested), and the number of levels and replicates, among others, in an multivariate experimental design (e.g., an omics study) during the planning phase of the experiment. Background: Within the NICU, there is a delicate equilibrium between providing assistance to parents by nurses and prioritising family-centred care (FCC). The FCC assumes the role of a mediator, effectively conveying compassion. The intricate dynamics between FCC, parental nurse support, and parental stress in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) necessitate comprehensive investigation. Objective: This study examines the mediating effect of FCC on the relationship between parental nurse support and parental stress in NICUs. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study used convenience sampling to select 223 parents (202 mothers) from Mansoura City hospitals in Egypt. Data were collected using the Nurse Parent Support Tool (NPST), Family-Centered Care Self-Assessment Tool (FCCS-NICU), and the Parental Stressor Scale: NICU (PSS: NICU). Mediation analysis was used to examine the relationships between variables. Results: Nurse support was positively associated with FCC (β = 0.81, p < 0.001) and negatively related to parental stress (β=-1.156, p < 0.001). FCC was found to reduce parental stress (β=-0.18, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis confirmed that FCC partially mediated the relationship between nurse support and parental stress (indirect effect β = 0.145, 95% CI: 0.055–1.007). Conclusions: This study highlights a significant association in the mediating role of FCC between nurse support and parental stress. Strengthening FCC practices can be an effective strategy for nurses to support parents and alleviate their stress in NICU settings. Implications to practice: NICUs should implement FCC-oriented training for nurses, foster a culture that supports FCC principles, and develop policies to establish FCC as a cornerstone of neonatal care. The case of the deepwater redfish (Sebastes mentella) in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (GSL) is a compelling example of drastic fluctuations in annual recruitment strength, characteristic of spasmodic stocks. After three decades of low abundance, the emergence of three consecutive strong year classes in 2011–2013 resulted in an unprecedented increase in biomass. In spasmodic stocks such as GSL redfish, strong year classes sustain both the biomass and catch for decades. Therefore, understanding the growth dynamics of these cohorts is essential. In the present study, we reconstructed the annual growth rates of redfish using otolith increment‐based annual chronology and investigated the drivers of growth variation in redfish strong year classes of the early 2010s and early 1980s. Stock biomass was identified as the main extrinsic driver of redfish growth, suggesting intense competition for food at high conspecific density. Warming of deep waters in the GSL, where adult redfish settle, positively correlated with individual growth. However, recent warming of the cold intermediate layer showed a negative correlation with redfish growth, likely related to the shrinking of the habitat this water mass provides for various redfish cold‐water prey rather than to a direct effect of temperature. Reconstruction of redfish annual growth trajectories from birth to capture emphasized the importance of carryover effects in the growth potential of strong year classes. This work provided an important first outlook of the factors driving growth variation in GSL redfish spasmodic stock and explored midterm consequences of density‐dependent pressures on biological parameters of the population. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the flow effects in different degrees of thoracic aortic stent graft protrusion extension by creating bird beak effect simulations using accurate 3D geometry and a realistic, nonlinear, elastic biomechanical model using computer-aided software SolidWorks. Methods: Segmentation in 3D of an aortic arch from a computed tomography (CT) scan of a real-life patient was performed using SolidWorks. A parametric analysis of three models was performed: (A) Aortic arch with no stent, (B) 3 mm bird-beak configuration, and (C) 6.5 mm bird-beak configuration. Flow velocity, pressure, vorticity, wall shear stress (WSS), and time average WSS were assessed. Results: The flow velocity in Model A remained relatively constant and low in the area of the ostium of the brachiocephalic artery and doubled in the left subclavian artery. On the contrary, Models B and C showed a decrease in velocity of 52.3 % in the left subclavian artery. Furthermore, Model B showed a drop in velocity of 82.7% below the bird-beak area, whereas Model C showed a decline of 80.9% in this area. The pressure inside the supra-aortic branches was higher in Model B and C compared with Model A. In Model A, vorticity only appeared at the level of the descending aorta, with low to non-vorticity in the aortic arch. In contrast, Models B and C had an average vorticity of 241.4 Hz within the bird beak area. Regarding WSS, Model A, and Model B shared similar WSS in the peak systolic phase, in the aortic arch, and the bird beak area, whereas Model C had an increased WSS by 5 Pa on average at these zones. Conclusion: In the present simulations' lower velocities, higher pressures, vortices, and WSS were observed around the bird beak zone, the aortic arch, and the supra-aortic vessels. Temperature is commonly acknowledged as one of the primary forces driving ectotherm vector populations, most notably by influencing metabolic rates and survival. Although numerous experiments have shown this for a wide variety of organisms, the vast majority has been conducted at constant temperatures and changes therein, while temperature is far from constant in nature, and includes seasonal and diurnal cycles. As fluctuating temperatures have been described to affect metabolic processes at (sub)cellular level, this calls for studies evaluating the relative importance of temperature fluctuations and the changes therein. To gain insight in the effects of temperature fluctuations on ectotherm development, survival, and sex ratio, we developed an inexpensive, easily reproducible, and open‐source, Arduino‐based temperature control system, which emulates natural sinusoidal fluctuations around the average temperature. We used this novel setup to compare the effects of constant (mean) temperatures, most commonly used in experiments, block schemes, and natural sinusoidal fluctuations as well as an extreme variant with twice its amplitude using the cosmopolitan mosquito species Culex pipiens s.l. as a study organism. Our system accurately replicated the preprogrammed temperature treatments under outdoor conditions, even more accurately than traditional methods. While no effects were detected on survival and sex ratio within the ranges of variation evaluated, development was sped up considerably by including temperature fluctuations, especially during pupation, where development under constant temperatures took almost a week (30%) longer than under natural fluctuations. Doubling the amplitude further decreased development time by 1.5 days. These results highlight the importance of including (natural) oscillations in experiments on ectotherm organisms – both aquatic and terrestrial – that use temperature as a variable. Ultimately, these results have major repercussions for downstream effects at larger scales that may be studied with applications such as ecological niche models, disease risk models, and assessing ecosystem services that rely on ectotherm organisms. Objective: The first objective is to examine the age-related trajectory of competitive performance and the age at peak competitive performance in wheelchair rugby players at the Paralympic Games. Another objective is to verify age correlations with performance over the years for each class. Design: This is a retrospective cohort study. Results: Data were collected from the official results books of the Paralympic games. The mean age (SD) of the 267 players and 448 analyzed data from all Paralympic games (from Sidney 2004 to Tokyo 2020) across all classeswas 32.8 (6.4) yrs, and the age at peak competitive performance was 30.6 (7.4) yrs. Each class had no statistical difference in age at peak competitive performance. In addition, there was no significant correlation between age and performancewithin classes or across all Paralympic games. Conclusions: The findings indicate that wheelchair rugby players' age at peak competitive performance is 30.6 yrs, which remains consistent across all classes. There is no statistical correlation between age and performance in wheelchair rugby. These findings significantly affect effective talent identification and athlete development programs. This impact ensures that athletes receive the necessary support to reach their maximum potential while avoiding the pitfalls of underestimating or overestimating their stages of development. In this paper, we aim to show the process of simulating survival data when the distribution of the overall population and one subgroup (called "positive subgroup") as well as the proportion of the subgroup is known, while the distribution of the other subgroup (called "negative subgroup") is unknown. We propose a combination method which generates survival data of the positive subgroup and negative subgroup, respectively, and survival data of the overall population are the combination of the two subgroups. The parameters of the overall population and the positive subgroup need to satisfy certain constraints, otherwise the parameters may lead to contradictions. From simulation, we show that our proposed combination method can reflect the correlation between the test statistics of overall population and positive subgroup, which makes the simulated data more realistic and the results of simulation more reliable. Moreover, for a multiplicity control in trial design, the combination method can help to determine the ${\rm{\alpha }}$ α splitting strategy between primary endpoints, and is helpful in designs of clinical trials as shown in three applications. The tobacco whitefly, Bemisia tabaci MEAM1, is a destructive pest that damages plants by sucking plant juice and transmitting viruses. B. tabaci insecticide resistance contributes to population resurgence, and new insecticides are continually needed. Flonicamid and afidopyropen are selective pesticides with high insecticidal activity against piercing–sucking pests and safety to non-target species. We determined the toxicity of flonicamid and afidopyropen to B. tabaci, investigated the sublethal effects on life parameters, and studied physiological responses to them. Flonicamid and afidopyropen were highly toxic to B. tabaci, with LC50 values of 12.795 mg/L (afidopyropen) and 25.359 mg/L (flonicamid) to nymphs and 4.711 mg/L (afidopyropen) and 11.050 mg/L (flonicamid) to adults. Sublethal concentrations (LC10 and LC20) reduced the longevity and fecundity of the B. tabaci F0 generation. Transgenerational effects were caused by exposure to sublethal concentrations of flonicamid and afidopyropen. Nymph mortality increased, development was delayed, fecundity decreased, and adult longevity was shortened. Population parameters such as the intrinsic rate of growth (r), net reproductive rate (R0), and finite rate of growth (λ) were significantly decreased compared to the control. The activity of detoxifying enzymes, such as GSTs and P450, were induced by flonicamid and afidopyropen at 72 h, while CarE was inhibited. The expression levels of eleven P450 genes and four GST genes were significantly higher than in the control. In conclusion, flonicamid and afidopyropen have excellent acute toxicity and continuous control effects on B. tabaci. Short and insufficient sleep are prevalent and associated with cardiovascular disease, with the sympathetic nervous system as a suspected mediator. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between objective, actigraphy-based total sleep time (TST), sleep efficiency (SE), and cardiovascular and sympathetic regulation in healthy adults. We hypothesized that short TST and low SE would be associated with elevated resting blood pressure, heart rate (HR), and muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA). Participants included 94 individuals [46 males, 48 females, age: 30 ± 15 yr, body mass index (BMI): 26 ± 4 kg/m2]. All participants underwent at least 7 days of at-home, wristwatch actigraphy monitoring (avg: 10 ± 3 days). Seated blood pressures were assessed using brachial blood pressure measurements, followed by a 10-minute supine autonomic testing session consisting of continuous HR (electrocardiogram), beat-by-beat blood pressure (finger plethysmograph), and MSNA (microneurography) monitoring. Partial correlations were used to determine the relationship between sleep and cardiovascular parameters while accounting for the influence of age, sex, and BMI. TST was not associated with MAP (R = −0.105, P = 0.321), HR (R = 0.093, P = 0.383), or MSNA burst frequency (BF; R = −0.168, P = 0.112) and burst incidence (BI; R = −0.162, P = 0.124). Similarly, SE was not associated with MAP (R = −0.088, P = 0.408), HR (R = −0.118, P = 0.263), MSNA BF (R = 0.038, P = 0.723), or MSNA BI (R = 0.079, P = 0.459). In contrast to recent preliminary findings, our results do not support a significant association between actigraphy-based sleep duration or efficiency and measures of resting blood pressure, heart rate, and MSNA. Background: The initiation of early non-invasive ventilation (NIV) often involves a careful balance between tolerance and effectiveness. In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients, the establishment of a strategy, including the decision to focus on adhering to a cut-off, setting specific targets, or correcting all events, is crucial. Objective: To identify factors at 1 month after early at-home NIV initiation that are associated with improved survival in ALS patients. We explored the impacts of adherence (ADH), quality of treatment, and NIV parameters at 1 month after early at-home NIV initiation on patient survival. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 184 ALS patients at the Bordeaux ALS Centre for whom NIV was initiated between September 2017 and June 2021, and we collected data for a minimum period of 2 years after the last patient included. The primary outcome was the risk of death according to baseline characteristics of our population and the NIV parameters and monitoring during the early NIV initiation period. The secondary outcomes were association with NIV ADH during the early NIV initiation period on prognosis, and NIV ADH cut-off for good versus poor prognosis. Results: Among the 178 ALS patients analysed, we found that quality of NIV treatment and device settings did not significantly influence prognosis. However, low ADH was significantly associated with a higher risk of death. The use of NIV for > 5 h/day during the early NIV initiation period was linked to a decreased risk of death [hazard ratio = 0.4; 95% confidence interval: 0.27–0.9]. In many European countries over the last few decades, arable fields dominate agricultural landscapes, leading to very intensive land-use practices. This seems to be the main cause of population declines for numerous farmland species, including the European brown hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778). The Research Institute for Animal Production (National Agricultural and Food Centre—NPPC, Luzianky, Slovakia) has been engaged in a long monitoring project (a project currently running), collecting certain indicators of brown hare population dynamics during hunting season from 1987 to 2023 in the Slovak Danubian Lowland. In the same macro-area (Čiližská Radvaň and Lehnice), a study was conducted on the influence of permanent semi-natural vegetation in relation to recruitment, population density and production. The entire monitored period was aggregated into 5-year intervals (for a total of seven time intervals), with the aim of analyzing the brown hare population dynamics. Spring hare density in the Danubian Lowland is currently 20.8 hares/km2, with harvests of 4.6 hares/km2. During the monitoring period, bag animals have been examined following the regular hunting operations for the purpose of age determination (weight of eye lenses), sex ratio and productivity. There was a large positive effect of set-aside with special mixtures created for hares in large-scale farmed agrarian landscapes on brown hare density, bag and recruitment. In-model hunting grounds with such set-asides increased the spring stock by 25%, bag by 100% and recruitment by 20%. This study reveals that the management of European brown hare is not sustainable in the Slovak Danubian Lowland, and the population is decreasing. This is proven through the decline in harvest brown hares and by population dynamic parameters. Our data suggest that improvements in the habitat quality of arable landscapes by the adoption of permanent semi-natural vegetation may be more effective in the increase in the brown hare population. Accessible Summary: What is known on the subject: Restraining and secluding health consumers for safety reasons continue to be used in psychiatric inpatient facilities even though they have no therapeutic value and have negative effects on consumers, families and staff.Six Core Strategies (6CS) for reducing seclusion and restraint have been developed to address this problem but there are very few effectiveness studies in inpatient adolescent psychiatric facilities. What the paper adds to existing knowledge: We used a mixed methods approach to evaluate the implementation of 6CS in an adolescent psychiatric facility. The implementation was successful. It eliminated the use of seclusion, substantially reduced the use of restraints and significantly reduced staff absenteeism.Using thematic analysis on feedback surveys, we identified five dominant themes that described consumers' and carers' experiences during their stay at the facility: communication, service delivery, flexibility, consistency and internal feeling states. What are the implications for practice: This study provides support for the feasibility of a comprehensive and broad‐based intervention program such as 6CS to reduce seclusion and restraint practices in inpatient mental health facilities.This study also demonstrates the value of using surveys to gather consumer and carer feedback and improve outcomes for service users. Aim/Question: To evaluate the implementation of 6CS in an adolescent inpatient psychiatric facility. Method: We retrieved archival data from an acute adolescent psychiatric ward that implemented the 6CS. Using a mixed methods approach, we evaluated outcomes on the use of seclusion and restraint, nursing staff sick leave and feedback surveys. Results: Findings showed an elimination of seclusion, and a significant reduction in restraint use and staff absenteeism in the 12 months after project implementation. Thematic analysis of feedback survey responses identified communication, service delivery, flexibility, consistency and internal feeling states as dominant themes in consumers' and carers' experience on the unit. Discussion: The 6CS is feasible and may be effective in reducing seclusion and restraint, which in turn may have a positive impact on staff wellbeing. This article assesses the dynamics of indicators characterizing marriage and migration parameters among the population of the south of Central Russia from 1890 to 2018. In the structure of marriages over the 130-year period, there was a significant decrease (1.6–2.2 times) in the share of isolocal marriages and a significant increase in the share of heterolocal marriages (by almost 11 times), while the size of the elementary population increased from the village level to the district/region level. From 1890 to 2018 the dynamics of isolocal marriages was more pronounced among the urban population and the dynamics of heterolocal marriages was more pronounced among rural residents. Over the 130-year period positive marital assortativity by place of birth of spouses decreased by 1.5 times without significant differences in the level and dynamics of marriage selectivity by place of birth of spouses between the urban and rural populations (except for the period of 1951–1953). A strong direct correlation was established between the level of marital assortativeness and the share of marriages concluded within one region and one district (r = 0.90, p < 0.05) and a negative one, on the share of heterolocal marriages (concluded between immigrants from different regions) (r = –0.90, p < 0.05). Caregivers of people with Multiple sclerosis (MS) face various challenges in the occupations of daily lives. We investigated the effect of an online occupational therapy program on the mastery and performance in caregivers of people with MS. In a single-blind randomized controlled trial twenty-four eligible caregivers of people with MS participated in the control and an occupational therapy group program. Caregivers completed The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) and the Relative Mastery Scale (RMS) before and after the intervention and one-month later. The level of performance, satisfaction and mastery were significantly improved in the intervention group after the intervention (p<.001) and there were significant differences in performance and satisfaction scores between the groups (p<.001). Online Occupational therapy shows promising results in facilitating the adaptation process and improving caregivers' performance and satisfaction levels. Caregivers of people with multiple sclerosis face various challenges when engaging in their daily occupations. Managing the challenges faced by caregivers as essential members of the treatment team contributes to improving their performance level in daily occupations and can finally enhance the quality of treatment interventions for patients. Online delivery can overcome caregivers' time constraints for attendance in the treatment centers for training. Background: Combined pre-operative bowel preparation with oral antibiotics (OAB) and mechanical bowel preparation (MBP) is the current recommendation for elective colorectal surgery. Few have studied racial disparities in bowel preparation and subsequent post-operative complications. Methods: This retrospective cohort study used 2015–2021 ACS-NSQIP-targeted data for elective colectomy for colon cancer. Multivariate regression evaluated predictors of post-operative outcomes: post-operative ileus, anastomotic leak, surgical site infection (SSI), operative time, and hospital length of stay (LOS). Results: 72,886 patients were evaluated with 82.1% White, 11.1% Black, and 6.8% Asian or Asian Pacific Islander (AAPI); 4.2% were Hispanic and 51.4% male. Regression accounting for age, sex, ASA classification, comorbidities, and operative approach showed Black, AAPI, and Hispanic patients were more likely to have had no bowel preparation compared to White patients receiving MBP+OAB. Compared to White patients, Black and AAPI patients had higher odds of prolonged LOS and pro-longed operative time. Black patients had higher odds of post-operative ileus. Conclusions: Racial disparities exist in both bowel preparation administration and post-operative complications despite the method of bowel preparation. This warrants exploration into discriminatory bowel preparation practices and potential differences in the efficacy of bowel preparation in specific populations due to biological or social differences, which may affect outcomes. BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the most important problems faced by ergonomists today. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of weather conditions, working conditions and mental workload on musculoskeletal disorders of rescuers and water and sewage company accidents in hot and cold seasons. METHODS: The present study was a longitudinal study that was performed on all employees of rescue and disaster teams of Shiraz Water and Sewerage Company in Iran (184 people) by census. Demographic and Nordic questionnaires, NASA Load Index (NASA-TLX), work environment assessment with temperature screening checklist and workplace ergonomic risk factor (WERA) assessment method were performed by the researcher. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 23 software and parametric and non-parametric statistical tests. RESULTS: The results showed that the highest and lowest prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders related to knee and back in winter and thigh in summer with prevalence of 57.1, 55.4 and 6%. The comparison of exposure to heat stress factors in summer and winter seasons showed that the temperature factors and work clothes of the workers in both seasons are in worse conditions than other factors (P < 0968). The results of the mental workload of people in two seasons showed that the highest and lowest mental workload is related to physical changes in the winter season and frustration in the summer season, and this relationship was significant (P < 0.001). Using multiple logistic regression model, the potential risk factors for musculoskeletal injuries including age, height, BMI, level of education and work experience in both hot and cold seasons were compared. The results showed that in summer, work experience (OR = 1.16 (1.06–1.28.)) and height (OR = 1.03(0.98–1.08) had a direct effect on the prevalence of pain and discomfort arranged in the back areas. One year of increase in work experience significantly increases the chance of a disorder in the back by 16% and a one centimeter increase in height increases the chance of a disorder in the lumbar region by 3%, although this relationship is significant. CONCLUSION: It is recommended that suitable solutions such as using appropriate and up-to-date mechanical tools, reducing activity time, increasing rest time, increasing the number of personnel in order to reduce mental workload, using work clothes suitable for the season and type of work, and ergonomics training for workers are on the agenda of company officials. Background/Objectives: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most prevalent progressive muscular dystrophy, and the guidelines recommend the regular assessment of respiratory muscle function. This study aimed to assess the relationship between maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP), maximum expiratory pressure (MEP) and sniff nasal inspiratory pressure (SNIP) measurements and upright-supine spirometry parameters in children with DMD, the predictability of upright–supine spirometry in terms of diaphragm involvement, and the impact of nutrition on muscle strength. Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study examined patients with DMD by comparing upright and supine FVC, MIP, MEP, and SNIP measurements. The effects of the ambulatory status, kyphoscoliosis, chest deformity, and low BMI on respiratory parameters were investigated. Results: Forty-four patients were included in the study. The mean patient age was 10.8 ± 2.9 years. Twenty-five patients were ambulatory. A significant decrease in FVC, FEV1, and FEF25–75 values was detected in the supine position in both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients (p < 0.05). All patients had low MIP, MEP, and SNIP measurements (less than 60 cm H2O). MIP, MEP, and SNIP values were significantly lower in patients with a low BMI than in those without (p < 0.05). Conclusions: To accurately assess respiratory muscle strength, supine FVC should be combined with upright FVC, MIP, MEP, and SNIP measurements. Cyberbullying is a growing problem in the Italian educational sector, with a prevalence of 17%. This study analyzes its impact on the psychosocial well-being and academic performance of Italian adolescents. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 502 students from six schools in different Italian regions, using the European Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (ECIPQ) to assess cyberbullying, in addition to collecting data on satisfaction, friends, and academic performance. Chi-square and ANOVA analyses were conducted to identify significant associations between the variables. Results: The analyses showed significant associations between cyberbullying and gender and in psychosocial well-being, with significant differences in personal satisfaction and body satisfaction. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in academic performance or in the ability to make new friends, although victims showed a significantly lower ability to make new friends compared to those who were neither victims nor aggressors. Conclusions: Cyberbullying has a significant impact on students' psychosocial well-being, especially on personal satisfaction and school happiness, making it essential to implement interventions that promote safe school environments to mitigate these negative effects. Background and Objectives: The predicted serum concentrations of vancomycin are determined using population pharmacokinetic parameters. However, the accuracy of predicting vancomycin serum concentrations in the older population remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the accuracy of predicting vancomycin serum concentrations and identifying elements that diminish the prediction accuracy in older people. Materials and Methods: A total of 144 patients aged 75 years or older were included. The serum vancomycin concentrations in the patients were predicted based on population pharmacokinetic parameters common in Japan. We examined the accuracy of serum vancomycin concentration prediction in elderly individuals by comparing the predicted and measured serum vancomycin concentrations in each patient. The prediction accuracy was evaluated using the mean prediction error (ME) and mean absolute error of prediction (MAE) calculated from the measured and predicted serum vancomycin concentrations in each patient. Results: The ME for all patients was 0.27, and the 95% CI included 0, indicating that the predicted values were not significantly biased compared to the measured values. However, the predicted serum concentrations in the <50 kg body weight and serum creatinine (Scr) < 0.6 mg/dL groups were significantly biased compared to the measured values. The group with a history of intensive care unit (ICU) admission showed the largest values for the ME and MAE. Conclusions: Our prediction accuracy was satisfactory but tended to be lower in underweight patients, those with low creatinine levels, and patients admitted to the ICU. Background: Interim crowns are utilized for restoring implants during and after the process of osseointegration. However, studies on adaptation and fracture strength of implant-supported interim crowns are rare. Aim of the study: The aim of this in vitro study is evaluating marginal fit and fracture resistance of conventional, subtractive, and additive methods of fabricating implant-supported interim crowns. Materials and methods: An implant was placed in an epoxy resin model with a missing first molar. A scan body was attached, and scanned with an intraoral scanner (IOS), the STL file was used to fabricate eighteen master models with standardized implant digital analogue spaces. The digital analogues and their corresponding abutments were attached to the master models and scanned with the IOS, the STL files were used to fabricate eighteen crowns using three different techniques (n = 6): conventional (CR); from Autopolymerizing composite resin, subtractive (SM); milled from PMMA resin blanks, and additive (AM); from 3D printed resin material. The crowns were fitted and cemented on their corresponding abutments and subjected to cyclic loading and thermocycling. The marginal fit was evaluated using a stereomicroscope. The crowns were then loaded until fractured in a universal testing machine. The Shapiro–Wilk and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests revealed that data of Marginal gap was non-parametric. Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Dunn test was used (α = 0.05). While data of Fracture resistance test was parametric. ANOVA (F-test) was used followed by the Tukey test (α = 0.05). Results: For marginal gap, a significant difference was shown between the study groups (P =.001) according to Kruskal–Wallis test. Groups SM and AM had significantly lower marginal gap values compared to group CR (P =.003). No significant difference was found between groups SM and AM (P =.994). For fracture resistance, One-way ANOVA revealed a significant difference in fracture resistance between study groups (P <.001). Group SM had significantly higher fracture strength followed by group AM and group CR (P =.001). Conclusions: Group SM and AM showed better marginal adaptation than group CR. Objective: Türkiye is the leading country that has been applying the MPOWER criteria of the World Health Organization for years. However, the prevalence of smoking among nurses appears to be high, according to the literature. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence, addiction levels, and dynamics of tobacco smoking among nurses in Türkiye. Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, a questionnaire (prepared in cooperation with the "World Health Organization") and the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence were administered to 529 nurses working at a tertiary-care university hospital in 2020. Logistic regression was performed to determine factors predicting smoking. Results: The prevalence of smoking among nurses was 32.7% (n = 173). The mean Fagerström test score indicated a "low dependence" level (score: 3 ± 2.6). Both results were higher for males. A relationship was found between trying smoking cigarette and hookah. Of the "current smokers" group, 102 (60.4%) stated that they wanted to quit smoking. Only 21 (27.6%) of the nurses who have tried to quit smoking thus far have received professional help. Conclusion: The prevalence of smoking among nurses working at a tertiary-care university hospital was relatively low compared to that among nurses in Türkiye. While females are normally expected to smoke less, the high prevalence of smoking among nurses (most of them female) raises the question of the professional basis of this situation. However, the low rate of receiving professional help reveals the lack of promotion and accessibility of smoking cessation outpatient clinics in the faculty environment. We present results of the Near-Earth objects Lunar Impacts and Optical TrAnsients (NELIOTA) campaign for lunar impact flashes observed with the 1.2 m Kryoneri telescope. From August 2019 to August 2023, we report 113 validated and 70 suspected flashes. For the validated flashes, we calculate the physical parameters (masses, radii) of the corresponding projectiles, the temperatures developed during the impacts, and the expected crater sizes. For the multiframe flashes, we present light curves and thermal evolution plots. Using the whole sample of NELIOTA that encompasses 192 validated flashes in total from 2017, the statistics of the physical parameters of the meteoroids, the peak temperatures of the impacts, and the expected crater sizes has been updated. Using this large sample, empirical relations correlating the luminous energies per photometric band were derived and used to roughly estimate the parameters of 92 suspected flashes of the NELIOTA archive. For a typical value of the luminous efficiency, we found that the majority (>75%) of the impacting meteoroids have masses between 1 and 200 g, radii between 0.5 and 3 cm and produced craters up to 3.5 m. 85% of the peak temperatures of the impacts range between 2000 and 4500 K. Statistics regarding the magnitude decline and the cooling rates of the multiframe flashes are also presented. The recalculation of the appearance frequency of meteoroids (lying within the aforementioned ranges of physical parameters) on the Moon yields that the total lunar surface is bombarded with 7.4 sporadic meteoroids per hour and up to 12.6 meteoroids per hour when the Earth-Moon system passes through a strong meteoroid stream. By extrapolating these rates on Earth, the respective rates for various distances from its surface are calculated and used to estimate the probability of an impact of a meteoroid with a hypothetical infrastructure on the Moon, or with a satellite orbiting Earth for various impact surfaces and duration times of the missions. Background: People with diabetes mellitus frequently have other comorbidities and involve greater use of primary and hospital care services. The aim of this study was to describe the comorbidities and use of primary and hospital care services of people with diabetes according to their risk level by adjusted morbidity groups (AMG) and to analyse the factors associated with the utilisation of these services. Methods: Cross-sectional study. People with diabetes were identified within the population of patients with chronic conditions of an urban health care centre by the AMG stratification tool integrated into the primary health care electronic clinical record of the Community of Madrid. Sociodemographic, functional, clinical characteristics and annual health care services utilisation variables were collected. Univariate, bivariate and Poisson regression analyses were performed. Results: A total of 1,063 people with diabetes were identified, representing 10.8% of patients with chronic conditions within the health centre. A total of 51.4% were female, the mean age was 70 years, 94.4% had multimorbidity. According to their risk level, 17.8% were high-risk, 40.6% were medium-risk and 41.6% were low-risk. The most prevalent comorbidities were hypertension (70%), dyslipidaemia (67%) and obesity (32.4%). Almost 50% were polymedicated. Regarding health services utilisation, 94% were users of primary care, and 59.3% were users of hospital care. Among the main factors associated with the utilisation of both primary and hospital care services were AMG risk level and complexity index. In primary care, utilisation was also associated with the need for primary caregivers, palliative care and comorbidities such as chronic heart failure and polymedication, while in hospital care, utilisation was also associated with comorbidities such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or depression. Conclusions: People with diabetes were older, with important needs for care, many associated comorbidities and polypharmacy that increased in parallel with the patient's risk level and complexity. The utilisation of primary and hospital care services was very high, being more frequent in primary care. Health services utilization were principally associated with functional factors related to the need of care and with clinical factors such as AMG medium and high-risk level, more complexity index, some serious comorbidities and polymedication. Introduction: Many military service members and civilians suffer from lower extremity trauma. Despite recent advancements in lower limb bracing technology, it remains unclear whether these newer advanced braces offer improved comfort and functionality compared to conventional options. The IDEO (Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis), a type of "advanced" orthosis was developed to assist in maintaining high functional performance in patients who have experienced high-energy lower extremity trauma and underwent limb salvage surgeries. Methods: A cross-sector multi-site initiative was completed to study the efficacy of advanced ankle foot orthoses (AFO) for lower limb trauma and injury compared to a conventional AFO. Following fitting, training, and accommodation, the subjects were assessed in each AFO system for mobility, self-reported function, safety and pain, and preference. Results: They preferred the advanced over the conventional AFO and the mobility and exertion perception improved with the advanced AFO with no difference in pain or overall health status scores. Discussion: Thus, an advanced AFO is an option for trauma affecting the lower limb. Background: Blastocystis is a unicellular eukaryote commonly found in the intestinal tract of humans and other animals. The prevalence of Blastocystis has been investigated in both developed and developing countries, yet its occurrence and distribution in rural locations has been less studied. Herein, we aimed to examine the distribution of Blastocystis colonization in Thai adults representing background populations along a rural/peri-urban gradient, as well as associations between colonization and personal characteristics. Methodology: A total of 238 participants were recruited from rural and peri-urban areas situated in three provinces. The presence of Blastocystis in feces was evaluated using PCR and qPCR. Information on gender, age, region (province), rural/peri-urban location, and body mass index (BMI) was collected. Principal findings: The overall rate of Blastocystis carriage was 67.2%. Univariate analysis revealed significant associations between Blastocystis carriage and region (p<0.05), location (p<0.001) and age group (p<0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that rural/peri-urban location and BMI were significantly associated with Blastocystis carriage. Nine subtypes (ST1-ST7, ST10 and ST23) were identified with ST3, ST7 and ST1 as the most abundant ones, in this order. The greatest diversity of subtypes, in terms of numbers, was found in the middle aged group (nine subtypes), while the least diversity was found in the young adult and obese (three subtypes each) groups. Conclusions: This study increases the understanding of the epidemiology of Blastocystis colonization and its association with population parameters and characteristics in middle-income countries. Author summary: Blastocystis is an enteric microbial eukaryote of ubiquitous, worldwide occurrence in both humans and animals. Based on the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene, Blastocystis has been divided into genetically distinct subgroups, called subtypes. It has been hypothesized that some of these subtypes might be pathogenic. Despite a century of research efforts, gaps remain on our knowledge of Blastocystis epidemiology. In this study, the authors investigated occurrence of Blastocystis among Thai, gut-healthy adults from three provinces in a rural/peri-urban gradient and examined associations with age, area of residence and body mass index (BMI). In this study, 67% of the participants were Blastocystis positive. Region, location and age group were individually associated with Blastocystis infection. Statistical model testing indicated that location and BMI were also associated with Blastocystis carriage. Nine subtypes were identified with the middle aged group having the greatest diversity (all nine subtypes). The obese and young adult groups had the least subtype diversity (three subtypes). Computer-aided implant surgery has undergone continuous development in recent years. In this study, active and passive systems of dynamic navigation were divided into active dynamic navigation system group and passive dynamic navigation system group (ADG and PDG), respectively. Active, passive and semi-active implant robots were divided into active robot group, passive robot group and semi-active robot group (ARG, PRG and SRG), respectively. Each group placed two implants (FDI tooth positions 31 and 36) in a model 12 times. The accuracy of 216 implants in 108 models were analysed. The coronal deviations of ADG, PDG, ARG, PRG and SRG were 0.85 ± 0.17 mm, 1.05 ± 0.42 mm, 0.29 ± 0.15 mm, 0.40 ± 0.16 mm and 0.33 ± 0.14 mm, respectively. The apical deviations of the five groups were 1.11 ± 0.23 mm, 1.07 ± 0.38 mm, 0.29 ± 0.15 mm, 0.50 ± 0.19 mm and 0.36 ± 0.16 mm, respectively. The axial deviations of the five groups were 1.78 ± 0.73°, 1.99 ± 1.20°, 0.61 ± 0.25°, 1.04 ± 0.37° and 0.42 ± 0.18°, respectively. The coronal, apical and axial deviations of ADG were higher than those of ARG, PRG and SRG (all P < 0.001). Similarly, the coronal, apical and axial deviations of PDG were higher than those of ARG, PRG, and SRG (all P < 0.001). Dynamic and robotic computer-aided implant surgery may show good implant accuracy in vitro. However, the accuracy and stability of implant robots are higher than those of dynamic navigation systems. Egyptian Red Sea fisheries face the same challenges as most of the world's fisheries, including overexploitation, habitat loss, IUU fishing, pollution, and climate change. These fisheries are highly diverse with multiple species targeted by multiple fleets, using different fishing gears. Much work has been performed in recent years to assess Red Sea fish stocks. However, not all fish stocks in the Egyptian Red Sea are assessed, and those that are assessed only cover 30% of landings. The assessments are unbalanced by area, with the Gulf of Suez being much better covered than the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aqaba. The results show that most of the analyzed stocks are overexploited. There is an urgent need to take action to protect, conserve, and restore the different fish stocks in different fishing grounds. These actions will ensure the sustainability of the fisheries, making them ecologically friendly and economically and socially efficient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: Dysphagia is a common complication following stroke. It corresponds to the development of pneumonia, which is always associated with bad prognosis, longer hospital stays and increased mortality. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of physical therapy intervention of dysphagia on preventing pneumonia in acute stroke patients. Methods: A single‐blind randomized controlled trial was carried out on 70 ischemic stroke patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia, age ranged from 49 to 65 years. They were randomly assigned to two groups (control and study) of equal number. Patients in the control group received oral care and nasogastric tube feeding, while patients in the study group received the same program in addition to the designed physical therapy program (exercises and neuromuscular electrical stimulation). The intervention program was applied for 40 min/session, 1 session/day, and 5 days/week for 4 weeks. Gugging swallowing screen (GUSS), and stroke associated pneumonia (SAP) control and prevention criteria were used to assess dysphagia and incidence of pneumonia at baseline, after two and 4 weeks of intervention for both groups. Results: Before treatment, all patients were susceptible to pneumonia after two and 4 weeks of intervention; there were a significant increase in GUSS score in both groups with more improvement in favor of the study group (p < 0.05) and a statistically significant increase in incidence of SAP after 2 weeks of intervention only in the control group (p < 0.05). The results also showed a significant negative correlation between GUSS score and SAP (r = − 0.3662, p = 0.0018) Implications for Physiotherapy Practice: adding physical therapy (exercise therapy and neuromuscular electrical stimulation) to oral care and nasogastric tube feeding is effective in improving oropharyngeal dysphagia and decreasing the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in acute ischemic stroke patients.
