Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation and H2O activity reduction in Water‐in‐Salt electrolytes (WiSE) with an enlarged stability window of 3.0 V have provided the feasibility of the high‐energy‐density aqueous Li‐ion batteries. Here, we extend the cathodic potential of WiSE by rationally controlling intermolecular interaction and interphase chemistry with the introduction of trimethyl phosphate (TMP) into WiSE. The TMP not merely limits the H2O activity via the strong interaction between TMP and H2O but also contributes to the formation of reinforced SEI involving phosphate and LiF by manipulating the Li+ solvation structure. Thus, water‐tolerance LiMn2O4 (LMO)||Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) full cell with a P/N ratio of 1.14 can be assembled and achieve a long cycling life of 1000 times with high coulombic efficiency of >99.9 %. Aim: The pattern of biodiversity and biogeography is crucial to informing management and conservation strategy. But a lack of study across multiple ridge systems, especially for the Carlsberg Ridge, has hampered the conception of the overall picture for the Indian Ocean vents, a top target for deep‐sea exploration of massive sulphides. Here, we aim to characterize fauna from three new vent fields on the Carlsberg Ridge for the first time, and answer 1) what is the biogeographic pattern for vent fauna within the Indian Ocean and 2) how does this pattern guide the future environmental management on the Indian Ocean ridges. Location: Vents on the Carlsberg Ridge (CR), Central Indian Ridge (CIR), and Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR). Taxon: Macrofauna. Methods: Samples, still images and videos were collected from vent fields by either submersible or TV‐guided grab. A comprehensive dataset of 11 fields on Indian Ocean ridges were obtained based on taxa identification and compilation. Genetic connectivity was analysed for six species using COI sequences. A framework for identifying biogeographic regions based on beta diversity measurement βsim was employed to reveal species turnover along the Indian Ocean ridges. Results: Faunal assemblages at three new vents on the CR hosted a total of 34 species. Significant genetic differentiation was detected between southern SWIR and CIR (plus Tiancheng) for three species, and between CIR (plus Tiancheng) and CR for four species. Hierarchical clustering of βsim support division of the Indian Ocean vents into three clades. Main conclusions: Species turnover along the ridges supported the separation of Indian Ocean vents into three discrete biogeographic units, boundaries between which largely corresponded to genetic breaks for shared species with lower dispersal capabilities. The instability of carbonate electrolyte with metallic Li greatly limits its application in high‐voltage Li metal batteries. Here, a "salt‐in‐salt" strategy is applied to boost the LiNO3 solubility in the carbonate electrolyte with Mg(TFSI)2 carrier, which enables the inorganic‐rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) for excellent Li metal anode performance and also maintains the cathode stability. In the designed electrolyte, both NO3− and PF6− anions participate in the Li+‐solvent complexes, thus promoting the formation of inorganic‐rich SEI. Our designed electrolyte has achieved a superior Li CE of 99.7 %, enabling the high‐loading NCM811||Li (4.5 mAh cm−2) full cell with N/P ratio of 1.92 to achieve 84.6 % capacity retention after 200 cycles. Nowadays, electrolytes for commercial batteries are mostly liquid solutions composed of solvent and salt to migrate the ions. However, solvents of the electrolyte bring several inherent limitations, either the electrochemical window, working temperature, volatility or flammability. Herein, we report polyphosphoric acid as a solvent-free protic liquid electrolyte, which excludes the demerits of solvent and exhibits unprecedented superiorities, including nonflammability, wider electrochemical stability window (>2.5 V) than aqueous electrolyte, low volatility and wide working temperature range (>400 °C). The proton conductive electrolyte enables MoO3/LiVPO4F rocking-chair battery to operate well in a wide temperature range from 0 °C to 250 °C and deliver a high power density of 4975 W kg−1 at a high temperature of 100 °C. The solvent-free electrolyte could provide a viable route for the stable and safe batteries working under harsh conditions, opening up a route towards designing wide-temperature electrolytes. It is challenging to prepare electrolyte that could achieve wide electrochemical window, broad working temperature, non-inflammability, and fast ion transport simultaneously. Here the authors report a rocking-chair proton battery utilizing a solvent-free protic liquid electrolyte, which could operate in a broad temperature range from 0 to 250 celsius degree. • Uncommon EGFR mutations exhibit favorable but inconsistent treatment responses and survival outcomes to gefitinib and erlotinib. • Patients with compound EGFR mutations, especially those containing 19 deletion or L858R, had superior response and survival benefits compared to those with single uncommon EGFR mutation. • Gefitinib showed a superior tumor response advantage and PFS benefit compared to erlotinib in the treatment of patients with uncommon EGFR mutations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the outcomes of gefitinib and erlotinib in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with uncommon epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. Relevant researches were identified by a literature search of the PubMed database. Patients with EGFR mutations other than exon 19 deletion and L858R were eligible for the study. Clinical outcomes included objective response rate (ORR), progression free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). We categorized all uncommon EGFR mutations as: single uncommon EGFR mutations and compound mutations that containing 2 or more kinds of EGFR mutations. We also assessed outcomes in patients categorized by EGFR-TKIs: (1) gefitinib group; (2) erlotinib group. A total of 438 patients with NSCLC harboring uncommon EGFR mutations were included in this study. The ORR for gefitinib and erlotinib was 43.8 %, with a median PFS (mPFS) of 6.00 months and a median OS (mOS) of 20.50 months. Patients with compound mutations had an ORR of 56.3 % and an mPFS of 8.10 months. Both of them were significantly better than these in patients with single uncommon EGFR mutation, which were 29.3 % and 3.90 months, respectively (odds ratio (ORa): 2.74, 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.86–4.05, P < 0.001; hazard ratio (HR): 0.58, 95 % CI: 0.48–0.71, P < 0.001). Moreover, patients with compound mutations containing 19 deletion or L858R had a superior response and survival benefits compared to patients with other compound mutation patterns. In addition, the gefitinib group showed a favorable efficacy advantage (P = 0.003) and PFS benefit (P = 0.021) compared to the erlotinib group. Open in new tab Download slide OBJECTIVES The goal of the present study was to determine the safety and efficacy of a modified off-pump biatrial mini-maze procedure to treat long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). METHODS Patients with long-standing persistent AF underwent our modified mini-maze procedure using bipolar radiofrequency ablation. Those patients first underwent a mini-maze procedure using the Dallas lesion set protocol. Second, a purse-string suture was performed on the right atrium, and then 4 ablation lesions were made to the superior vena cava, the inferior vena cava, the appendix of the right atrium and the tricuspid valve annulus from the purse-string suture point by the bipolar radiofrequency clamp. After the operation, the patients were followed up at 3, 6 and 12 months and every year thereafter. RESULTS A total of 102 patients were included in the study. There were no deaths, no surgical re-exploration for bleeding and no permanent pacemaker implants. The intraoperative cardioversion rate was 42.2% (43/102). A follow-up at intervals of 3, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months showed that a success rate free from long-standing persistent AF was 95.1% (97/102), 94.4% (85/90), 94.8% (73/77), 91.5% (54/59), 90.3% (28/31) and 86.4% (19/22), whereas freedom from AF in patients off antiarrhythmic drugs was 88.2% (90/102), 85.6% (77/90), 81.8% (63/77), 78.0% (46/59), 74.2% (23/31) and 68.2% (15/22), respectively. Osteoarthritis (OA) is mainly characterized by articular cartilage degeneration, synovial fibrosis, and inflammation. LncRNA CRNDE (colorectal neoplasia differentially expressed) has been reported to be down-regulated in age-related OA, but its role in injury-induced OA needs to be further explored. In this study, an OA rat model was established using anterior cruciate ligament transection, and the adenovirus-mediated CRNDE overexpression (Ad-CRNDE) or DACT1 (dapper antagonist of catenin-1) interference (sh-DACT1) vectors were administered by intraarticular injection. Moreover, chondrocyte‑like ATDC5 cells were treated with IL-1β (10 ng/mL) to simulate OA conditions in vitro. We found that overexpression of CRNDE alleviated cartilage damage and synovitis in OA rats, and suppressed IL-1β-induced apoptosis, inflammation, and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation in chondrocyte‑like ATDC5 cells, while silencing DACT1 effectively antagonized the protective effect of CRNDE both in vivo and in vitro. Mechanism studies revealed that DACT1 could act as a downstream target of CRNDE. By recruiting p300, CRNDE promoted the enrichment of H3K27ac in the DACT1 promoter, thus promoting DACT1 transcription. In addition, CRNDE hindered the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in IL-1β-stimulated cells by inducing DACT1 expression. In conclusion, CRNDE promoted DACT1 expression through epigenetic modification and restrained the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling to impede the progression of OA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aortic regurgitation (AR) in patients with Takayasu arteritis is considered a relatively common clinical condition. Aortic valve replacement as a surgical treatment, however, is known to have a high risk of postoperative prosthetic valve detachment or anastomotic pseudoaneurysm. This pilot study reports on an initial experience with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for AR caused by Takayasu arteritis. The outcome suggests that TAVR may be a potentially feasible alternative treatment option for AR in Takayasu arteritis, especially in relatively older and vulnerable patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Open in new tab Download slide Objects To acquire adequate proximal landing zones for penetrating aortic ulcers in the proximal descending aorta or aortic arch, the left subclavian artery (LSA) is usually covered during thoracic endovascular aortic repair. The Castor single-branched stent graft is used to treat aortic disease involving LSA. Our goal was to evaluate the efficiency and safety of the Castor device in treating penetrating aortic ulcers (PAUs) involving the LSA. METHODS Between January 2019 and December 2020, we enrolled 25 patients with PAUs requiring LSA revascularization using Castor devices during thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). Outcomes including surgical results, 30-day and follow-up deaths and morbidity and aortic computed tomography angiography data were analyzed. RESULTS In total, 24 patients (96.0%) underwent successful surgical procedures: 1 patient (4.0%) had a type I endoleak and 1 patient (4.0%) had a stroke. Stent migration occurred in 1 patient (4.0%) and paraplegia in 1 patient (4.0%). Two stents were deployed in 2 patients (8.0%). After a mean follow-up period of 15.7 months, 2 cases of branch occlusions and 1 death related to myocardial infarction were noted. Aortic computed tomography angiography demonstrated that the diameters and depths were reduced significantly whereas complete thrombosis of the lumens of the PAUs occurred in all cases during the 12-months follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS These preliminary results justify the efficiency and safety of the Castor single branched stent graft in the treatment of PAUs requiring LSA revascularization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purposes: To characterize the clinical features and surgical outcomes of symptomatic hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) in patients with only mild septal hypertrophy. Methods: The clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes of 53 HOCM patients with a basal septal thickness ≤ 16 mm (mild group) were compared with those of 128 HOCM patients with a basal septal thickness > 16 mm (control group). Results: The mild group had a greater prevalence of mitral subvalvular anomalies than the control group (79.2% vs. 6.3%, p < 0.001). Neither iatrogenic septal perforation nor inadequate septal myectomy was observed after myectomy in the mild group. There were no deaths during a median follow-up of 10 months. Transthoracic echocardiography 6 months after myectomy revealed a significant decrease in maximum gradients in both groups, from baseline 90.5 ± 21.5 mmHg to 10.3 ± 4.4 mmHg in the mild group (p < 0.001) and from 95.0 ± 22.0 mmHg to 12.0 ± 5.9 mmHg (p < 0.001) in the control group. Neither residual obstruction nor residual mitral regurgitation was recorded in the mild group. Conclusions: Symptomatic patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and mild septal hypertrophy may have a higher prevalence of mitral subvalvular abnormalities. The mesopelagic communities are important for food web and carbon pump in ocean, but the large-scale studies of them are still limited until now because of the difficulties on sampling and analyzing of mesopelagic organisms. Mesopelagic organisms, especially micronekton, can form acoustic deep scattering layers (DSLs) and DSLs are widely observed. To explore the spatial patterns of DSLs and their possible influencing factors, the DSLs during daytime (10:00–14:00) were investigated in the subtropical northwestern Pacific Ocean (13°–23.5°N, 153°–163°E) using a shipboard acoustic Doppler current profiler at 38 kHz. The study area was divided into three parts using k-means cluster analysis: the northern part (NP, 22°–24°N), the central part (CP, 17°–22°N), and the southern part (SP, 12°–17°N). The characteristics of DSLs varied widely with latitudinal gradient. Deepest core DSLs (523.5 m± 17.4 m), largest nautical area scattering coefficient (NASC) (130.8 m2/n mile2±41.0 m2/n mile2), and most concentrated DSLs (mesopelagic organisms gathering level, 6.7%±0.7%) were observed in NP. The proportion of migration was also stronger in NP (39.7%) than those in other parts (18.6% in CP and 21.5% in SP) for mesopelagic organisms. The latitudinal variation of DSLs was probably caused by changes in oxygen concentration and light intensity of mesopelagic zones. A positive relationship between NASC and primary productivity was identified. A four-months lag was seemed to exist. This study provides the first basin-scale baselines information of mesopelagic communities in the northwest Pacific with acoustic approach. Further researches are suggested to gain understandings of seasonal and annual variations of DSLs in the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
