Centrifugal granulation technology using a spinning cup opens a potential way to recycle steel slag that is currently difficult to reuse. The objective of this research was to study the flow characteristics of a molten slag–metal mixture that was produced during smelting reduction in molten steel slag, passing over a spinning cup, so as to explore the feasibility of using centrifugal granulation technology to treat the steel slag. This was achieved by developing and implementing a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model that incorporated free-surface multiphase flow to predict the thickness of the liquid slag film at the edge of the spinning cup (slag film thickness for short), which was an important parameter for estimating the size of the slag particles resulting from centrifugal granulation of the molten slag–metal mixture. The influences of various relevant parameters, including spinning cup diameter, slag feeding rate, cup spinning speed, etc., on the slag film thickness were analyzed. Additionally, hot experiments on centrifugal granulation of a molten slag–metal mixture were conducted to verify the results of the numerical simulations. The experimental results indicated a progressive reduction in the Sauter mean diameter of the slag particles as the metallic iron content in the slag increased. Specifically, when the iron content rose from 5% to 15% at a cup spinning speed of 2500 RPM, the Sauter mean diameter decreased by 13.77%. The numerical simulation results showed that the slag film thickness had a positive relationship to the slag feeding rate but a negative relationship to the spinning cup diameter and the cup spinning speed. Furthermore, the ratio between the mean slag particle diameter and the slag film thickness decreased nearly linearly with the increase in the metallic iron content in slag, with the average ratio being approximately 4.25, and this relationship was useful for estimating the slag particle size from the slag film thickness. Therefore, the present research results can provide theoretical guidance for the industrial application of spinning cup centrifugal granulation technology to effectively treat and recycle steel slags. The Golden apple snail, Pomacea canaliculata, is one of the world's 100 worst invasive alien species that is best known for its damage to wetland agriculture. It also acts as an intermediate host of some zoonotic parasites such as Angiostrongylus cantonensis, posing threats to human public health and safety. Despite is being an important agricultural pest, the genetic information and population expansion history of this snail remains poorly understood in China. In this study, we analyzed the genetic variation and population genetics of P. canaliculata populations in seven regions of China based on molecular markers of three mitochondrial (mt) genes. A total of 15 haplotypes were recognized based on single mt cox1, nad1, and nad4, and eight haplotypes were identified using the concatenated genes. High haplotype diversity, moderate nucleotide diversity, low gene flow, and high rates of gene differentiation among the seven P. canaliculata populations were detected. Shanghai and Yunnan populations showed higher genetic flow and very low genetic differentiation. The results of Tajima's D, Fu's Fs, and mismatch distribution showed that P. canaliculata did not experience population expansion in China. Genetic distance based on haplotypes suggested that nad1 gene was more conserved than cox1 gene within P. canaliculata. The phylogenetic analyses showed there may be two geographical lineages in the Chinese mainland. The present study may provide a new genetic marker to analyze P. canaliculata, and results support more evidence for studying the genetic distribution of P. canaliculata in China and contribute to a deeper understanding of its population genetics and evolutionary biology. This toxicology study was conducted to assess the impact of formaldehyde, a common air pollutant found in Chinese gymnasiums, on the brain function of athletes. In this research, a total of 24 Balb/c male mice of SPF-grade were divided into four groups, each consisting of six mice. The mice were exposed to formaldehyde at different concentrations, including 0 mg/m3, 0.5 mg/m3, 3.0 mg/m3, and 3.0 mg/m3 in combination with an injection of L-NMMA (NG-monomethyl-L-arginine), which is a nitric oxide synthase antagonist. Following a one-week test period (8 h per day, over 7 days), measurements of biomarkers related to the nitric oxide (NO)/cGMP-cAMP signaling pathway were carried out on the experimental animals post-treatment. The study found that: (1) Exposure to formaldehyde can lead to brain cell apoptosis and neurotoxicity; (2) Additionally, formaldehyde exposure was found to alter the biomarkers of the NO/cGMP-cAMP signaling pathway, with some changes being statistically significant (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01); (3) The use of L-NMMA, an antagonist of the NO/cGMP-cAMP signaling pathway, was found to prevent these biomarker changes and had a protective effect on brain cells. The study suggests that the negative impact of formaldehyde on the brain function of mice is linked to the regulation of the NO/cGMP-cAMP signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A microbial fungicide developed from Bacillus subtilis NCD-2 has been registered for suppressing verticillium wilt in crops in China. Spores are the main ingredient of this fungicide and play a crucial role in suppressing plant disease. Therefore, increasing the number of spores of strain NCD-2 during fermentation is important for reducing the cost of the fungicide. In this study, five kinds of carbon sources were found to promote the metabolism of strain NCD-2 revealed via Biolog Phenotype MicroArray (PM) technology. L-arabinose showed the strongest ability to promote the growth and sporulation of strain NCD-2. L-arabinose increased the bacterial concentration and the sporulation efficiency of strain NCD-2 by 2.04 times and 1.99 times compared with D-glucose, respectively. Moreover, L-arabinose significantly decreased the autolysis of strain NCD-2. Genes associated with arabinose metabolism, sporulation, spore resistance to heat, and spore coat formation were significantly up-regulated, and genes associated with sporulation-delaying protein were significantly down-regulated under L-arabinose treatment. The deletion of msmX, which is involved in arabinose transport in the Bacillus genus, decreased growth and sporulation by 53.71% and 86.46% compared with wild-type strain NCD-2, respectively. Plant disease control has long been a critical issue in agricultural production and relies heavily on the identification of plant diseases, but traditional disease identification requires extensive experience. Most of the existing deep learning-based plant disease classification methods run on high-performance devices to meet the requirements for classification accuracy. However, agricultural applications have strict cost control and cannot be widely promoted. This paper presents a novel method for plant disease classification using a binary neural network with dual attention (DABNN), which can save computational resources and accelerate by using binary neural networks, and introduces a dual-attention mechanism to improve the accuracy of classification. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed approach, we conduct experiments on the PlantVillage dataset, which includes a range of diseases. The F 1 s c o r e and A c c u r a c y of our method reach 99.39% and 99.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, compared to AlexNet and VGG16, the C o m p u t a t i o n a l c o m p l e x i t y of our method is reduced by 72.3% and 98.7%, respectively. The P a r a m s s i z e of our algorithm is 5.4% of AlexNet and 2.3% of VGG16. The experimental results show that DABNN can identify various diseases effectively and accurately. Immunotherapy using dendritic cell (DC)‐based vaccination is an established approach for treating cancer and infectious diseases; however, its efficacy is limited. Therefore, targeting the restricted migratory capacity of the DCs may enhance their therapeutic efficacy. In this study, the effect of laponite (Lap) on DCs, which can be internalized into lysosomes and induce cytoskeletal reorganization via the lysosomal reprogramming–calcium flicker axis, is evaluated, and it is found that Lap dramatically improves the in vivo homing ability of these DCs to lymphoid tissues. In addition, Lap improves antigen cross‐presentation by DCs and increases DC‐T‐cell synapse formation, resulting in enhanced antigen‐specific CD8+ T‐cell activation. Furthermore, a Lap‐modified cocktail (Lap@cytokine cocktail [C‐C]) is constructed based on the gold standard, C‐C, as an adjuvant for DC vaccines. Lap@C‐C‐adjuvanted DCs initiated a robust cytotoxic T‐cell immune response against hepatitis B infection, resulting in > 99.6% clearance of viral DNA and successful hepatitis B surface antigen seroconversion. These findings highlight the potential value of Lap as a DC vaccine adjuvant that can regulate DC homing, and provide a basis for the development of effective DC vaccines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the final approach stage of rendezvous and docking of a spacecraft, the pose parameters of the target spacecraft need to meet docking or berthing capture conditions. Visible light visual measurement systems are increasingly employed in spacecraft ground tests to extract the geometric features of spacecraft to calculate and verify the accuracy of pose parameters. Most current feature-segmentation algorithms are unable to break through the scale transformation problem of spacecraft movement and the noise interference of multi-layer insulation materials in imaging. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel feature segmentation algorithm based on the framework of deep convolutional neural networks. Firstly, a full convolution model of the encoding-decoding structure is constructed based on data for the ground test. A feature concatenation module is applied and combined with a network backbone to improve the segmentation performance. Then, a comprehensive loss function is presented and optimized by the pose characteristics of the spacecraft in the approach phase. Furthermore, a specific spacecraft simulation dataset to train and test our segmentation model is built through data augmentation. The experimental results verify that the proposed method achieves accurate segmentation of spacecraft of different scales, suppresses the interference caused by multilayer insulation material, and has strong robustness against motion ambiguity. Human mpox is occurring worldwide, however, evidence from the Asian Pacific Region is limited. In this multicenter cross‐sectional study, information of confirmed mpox cases diagnosed between June 1 and July 31, 2023 in China. Information included demographic and epidemiological characteristics, and clinical manifestations, laboratory results, and mental health status of mpox cases. A total of 115 confirmed mpox cases were enrolled. All cases were men. A total of 102 (90.3%) identified as homosexual. The median age was 31.0 years (interquartile range 27.0–36.5). A total of 65 (56.5%) were HIV‐positive, of whom 92.3% were receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). A total of 19/39 (40.4%) had a CD4 cell count <500 cells/μL. Systemic features such as fever (73.0%), lymphadenopathies (49.6%), and myalgia (28.7%) were commonly observed. Skin lesions were present in all participants: 49.6% in the genital area and 27.0% in the perianal area. Vesicular rash (78.3%) and papular rash (44.3%) were the most common lesion morphologies. People living with HIV were more likely to have anxiety than those living without HIV. The majority of mpox cases had primary genital lesions and sexual activities before diagnosis, which supports the likelihood of sexual contact transmission. Guidelines on hospitalization and isolation protocols for mpox patients necessitate further confirmation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
