Hepatitis B virus‐related acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (HBV‐ACLF) is a syndrome with high short‐term mortality. The mechanism of the transcription factor ETS2 in ACLF remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the molecular basis of ETS2 in ACLF pathogenesis. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with HBV‐ACLF (n = 50) were subjected to RNA sequencing. Transcriptome analysis showed that ETS2 expression was significantly higher in ACLF patients than in patients with chronic liver diseases and healthy subjects (all p < 0.001). Area‐under‐ROC analysis of ETS2 demonstrated high values for the prediction of 28‐/90‐day mortality in ACLF patients (0.908/0.773). Significantly upregulated signatures of the innate immune response (monocytes/neutrophils/inflammation‐related pathways) were observed in ACLF patients with high ETS2 expression. Myeloid‐specific ETS2 deficiency in liver failure mice resulted in deterioration of biofunctions and increased expression of pro‐inflammatory cytokines (IL‐6/IL‐1β/TNF‐α). Knockout of ETS2 in macrophages confirmed the downregulation of IL‐6 and IL‐1β caused by both HMGB1 and lipopolysaccharide, and an NF‐κB inhibitor reversed the suppressive effect of ETS2. ETS2 is a potential prognostic biomarker of ACLF patients that alleviates liver failure by downregulating the HMGB1‐/lipopolysaccharide‐triggered inflammatory response and may serve as a therapeutic target for ACLF. In recent years, concurrent climate extreme conditions (i.e., hot‐dry, cold‐dry, hot‐wet, and cold‐wet) have led to various unprecedented natural disasters (e.g., floods, landslide, wildfire, droughts, etc.), causing significant damages to human societies and ecosystems. This is especially true for China where many unprecedented natural disasters have been reported due to the recent warming in local climate. In this paper, we focus on the issue of ultra‐extreme events (1‰ threshold) and address how future global warming would affect the climate extreme conditions in China. Specifically, to reduce the uncertainties from models, we use a downscaled and bias‐corrected CMIP6 ensemble under two continuously‐warming scenarios to evaluate the impact of global warming on ultra‐extreme events over China. The results show that, under both SSP245 and SSP585 scenarios, extreme hot conditions would become dominant in most regions of China and some regions are likely to experience over 50 extreme hot days at future warming levels. The frequency of extreme cold events is projected to be small. More frequent extreme hot‐wet events with concurrence in the same month and year would be expected for China under the continuously‐warming scenarios. This is particularly obvious for the west where more than 6 hot‐wet months are likely to take place under future warming scenarios. This may imply that more extreme heat waves and flooding events would coincide in the same month or year for China in the future. For univariate ultra‐extreme events, both extreme hot events and extreme wet events would drop by above 25% from 2.0°C to 1.5°C global warming level, particularly under the SSP245 scenario. When the global mean temperature is limited to 1.5°C rather than 2°C, the avoided impacts of hot‐wet and cold‐wet extremes concurring in the same month will be larger than those of dry‐related compound extremes. Overall, the results suggest that slowing down global warming can reduce the frequency of concurrent climate extreme conditions in China, highlighting the importance of immediate action toward carbon emission reduction. As an important part of natural resources, islands support the marine economy and build a blue barrier for marine ecological civilization. However, the power supply on these islands is difficult, limiting the development of marine internet of things (IoTs). In order to break the status quo, this work applies triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to island power supply and ecological monitoring. A spherical TENG with two multilayered helical units is designed to harvest water wave energy, in which the space utilization rate reaches 92.5%. Then a charge shuttling mechanism is developed to improve the electrical output. The output current and power of a single TENG without power management reach 200.3 µA and 16.2 mW respectively, corresponding to a peak power density of 23.2 W m−3. Moreover, a scheme of the power managed TENG is proposed for realizing large‐scale wave energy harvesting. The TENG is demonstrated to successfully power a water quality detector, a Bluetooth thermo‐hygrometer, and an intelligent wireless alarm system for remote environmental monitoring. This work not only proposes a new type of TENG for water wave energy harvesting with improved performance, but also provides a new strategy for intelligent ocean IoTs, which even contributes to the carbon neutralization. Based on the advantages of thin-walled tubes and lattice structures in energy absorption and improved crashworthiness, a hybrid structure of lattice-reinforced thin-walled tubes with different cross-sectional cell numbers and gradient densities was constructed, and a high crashworthiness absorber with adjustable energy absorption was proposed. The experimental and finite element characterization of the impact resistance of uniform density and gradient density hybrid tubes with different lattice arrangements to withstand axial compression was carried out to investigate the interaction mechanism between the lattice packing and the metal shell, and the energy absorption of the hybrid structure was increased by 43.40% relative to the sum of its individual components. The effect of transverse cell number configuration and gradient configuration on the impact resistance of the hybrid structure was investigated, and the results showed that the hybrid structure showed higher energy absorption than the empty tube, and the best specific energy absorption was increased by 83.02%; the transverse cell number configuration had a greater effect on the specific energy absorption of the hybrid structure with uniform density, and the maximum specific energy absorption of the hybrid structure with different configurations was increased by 48.21%. The gradient density configuration had a significant effect on the peak crushing force of the gradient structure. In addition, the effects of wall thickness, density and gradient configuration on energy absorption were quantitatively analyzed. This study provides a new idea to optimize the impact resistance of lattice-structure-filled thin-walled square tube hybrid structures under compressive loading through a combination of experiments and numerical simulations. Electrochemical system with electro-Fenton reaction is an effective pathway for oxidative degradation of refractory organic pollutants for water treatment. However, the method is limited by the low catalytic efficiency and high electrical cost in practical applications. This work presents a self-powered and high-efficient electrochemical system for water treatment including pollutant degradation and bacterial inactivation, which is composed of a self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, a power management circuit integrated with a supercapacitor to store the harvesting electrical energy temporarily, and an electrochemical setup integrated with two-dimentional Co(OH)2/Pt nanosheet as electrocatalyst. The nanocatalyst, ultrafine Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) loaded on Co(OH)2 nanosheet (Co(OH)2/Pt), is synthesized by a facile one step hydrothermal reaction without any surfactant, which can improve H2O2 and hydroxyl radical production via redox reaction. This self-powered electrocatalytic system is able to degrade nearly 100% of organic pollutant within 100 min, and efficiently kill bacteria. Objective: To analyze the extent of postoperative hip abductor insufficiency in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients undergoing anterolateral minimally invasive (ALMI) approach, and to investigate whether the clinical outcomes are more favorable in femoral neck fracture (FNF) patients than in non-femoral neck fracture (nFNF) patients. Three new thiodiketopiperazines, geospallins A⁻C (1⁻3), together with nine known analogues (4⁻12), were isolated from the culture of the deep-sea sediment-derived fungus Geosmithia pallida FS140. Among them, geospallins A and B (1 and 2) represent rare examples of thiodiketopiperazines featuring an S-methyl group at C-10 and a tertiary hydroxyl group at C-11. Their structures were determined by high-resolution electrospray mass spectrometry (HRESIMS), spectroscopic analyses, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Their angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity was reported, and geospallins A⁻C (1⁻3) showed inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 29⁻35 µM.

The effect of a free-stream turbulence intensity level on the wake dynamics of a square-back Ahmed body is modeled using the improved delayed detached eddy simulation at Re = 9.6 × 10 4 . The center of pressure, pressure gradient on the base surface, and the barycenter of the momentum deficit on the wake plane are analyzed to characterize the wake bi-modality dynamics. Given that different flow dynamics have different dominant frequencies, the spectral proper orthogonal decomposition is utilized to separate the wake bi-stability, pumping motion of the whole recirculation region, the Von Kármán vortex shedding and the shear layer instability. The results show that entrainment of the oncoming flow into the wake is enhanced, the vorticity thickness is thickened and the length of the wake recirculation region is decreased with the increasing free-stream turbulence, resulting in a lower base suction pressure and a higher level of shear stress. The frequency of the pumping motion is increased with the increase in the oncoming turbulence intensity, while the frequency of Von Kármán vortex shedding is irrespective of the level of the background turbulence. Though the correlation between the switching rate and the oncoming turbulence intensity cannot be put forward due to the relatively short numerical simulation time compared with the wind tunnel experiment, it is still known that the turbulence intensity has a positive effect on the wake bi-stability switching. Early diagnosis and prediction of hepatitis B virus‐related acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (HBV‐ACLF) is important to reduce mortality. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic and predictive value of serum ferritin (SF) in HBV‐ACLF patients. Clinical data from 1905 hospitalized patients with acute deterioration of HBV‐related chronic liver diseases were analyzed to explore the association between SF and ACLF. A co‐expression network based on transcriptomics data for 20 HBV‐ACLF patients was constructed to investigate biological processes related to ferritin. Of 1270 patients in the derivation group, 440 and 830 were diagnosed with and without ACLF, respectively, based on Chinese Group on the Study of Severe Hepatitis B‐ACLF criteria. SF levels showed high diagnostic accuracy (area under the receiver operating characteristic [AUROC]: 0.820) for ACLF at admission. In patients with ACLF, SF was associated with liver and coagulation failure. In patients without ACLF, SF predicted risk for 28‐day progression to ACLF (AUROC: 0.808). A validation group of 635 patients confirmed the above results. Moreover, SF was significantly associated with the immune response based on transcriptomics analysis. Long-term intensive use of mineral fertilizers in double rice-cropping systems has led to soil acidification and soil degradation. Manure fertilization was suggested as an alternative strategy to mitigate soil degradation. However, the effects of long-term mineral and manure fertilization on rice grain yield, yield stability, soil organic carbon (SOC) content, soil total nitrogen (TN) content, and the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Based on a long-term experiment established in 1981 in southern China, we compared four treatments: no fertilizer application (Control); application of nitrogen–phosphorus–potassium (NPK); NPK plus green manure in early rice (M1); and M1 plus farmyard manure in late rice and rice straw return in winter (M2). Our results showed that 37 years of NPK, M1, and M2 significantly increased rice grain yield by 54%, 46%, and 72%, and yield stability by 22%, 17%, and 9%, respectively. M1 and M2 significantly increased SOC content by 39% and 23% compared to Control, respectively, whereas there was no difference between Control and NPK. Regarding soil TN content, it was significantly increased by 8%, 46%, and 20% by NPK, M1, and M2, respectively. In addition, M2 significantly increased bacterial OTU richness by 68%, Chao1 index by 79%, and altered the bacterial community composition. Changes in soil nutrient availability and bacterial Simpson index were positively correlated with the changes in grain yield, while shifts in bacterial community were closely related to yield stability. This study provides pioneer comprehensive assessments of the simultaneous responses of grain yield, yield stability, SOC and TN content, nutrient availability, and bacterial community composition to long-term mineral and manure fertilization in a double rice-cropping system. As the core components of insulation systems or film capacitors, polymer dielectrics are widely used in electrical and electronic equipment and for energy storage. However, the electrical strength is always the bottleneck that limits further application. Therefore, a coating with a wide bandgap comprising of zinc oxide and polydimethylsiloxane is designed in this paper. Experiments show that the coating effectively improves the breakdown strength and flashover voltage. A Kelvin probe force microscope is used to determine the microscopic mechanism for performance improvement, the charge dissipation characteristics and the changes in trap parameters in the nanoscale regime. This shows that many shallow traps are introduced on the polymer surface after applying the coating, which dissipate the surface charges and increase the flashover voltage. First‐principles calculations indicate that the band gap of the coating is wider than that of the polymer dielectric, which explains the enhancement in breakdown field strength. This paper presents an efficient method for enhancing the electrical strengths of polymer dielectrics, which is crucial for their application. More importantly, the experimental and theoretical methods used to determine the microscopic mechanism and the conclusions obtained in this paper provide guidance for future research on polymer dielectrics. This study investigates the thermodynamical and dynamical influences of the intense cyclone in the Arctic Ocean in August 2012 on the synoptic‐scale sea ice evolution, using the Arctic Ice Ocean Prediction System (ArcIOPS). As it is hard to fully isolate sea ice loss owing to extreme cyclone from that owing to background atmospheric state in most previous studies on this topic, this study introduces a newly developed algorithm to remove the cyclone component in atmospheric forcing, and conducts sea ice and heat budget analyses in two simulations driven by atmospheric forcing with and without the cyclone. Strong impact of the intense cyclone on sea ice locates on the east side of the cyclone's path, that is, Pacific Arctic for this case. The cyclone affects sea ice in two ways. First, cyclone‐induced enhancement in ice‐ocean interaction leads to increased sea ice basal melt in the Pacific Arctic and part of the Atlantic Arctic, which induces strong sea ice area and volume loss when the cyclone's intensity peaks. Second, as the cyclone strengthens, the increases in air temperature, humidity and wind speed accelerate turbulent heat exchange at the air‐ocean and air‐ice interfaces, leading to enhanced local sea ice surface melt in the Chukchi Sea and northern Beaufort Sea. The cyclone‐induced strong winds stir sea ice leading to enhanced gradients in sea ice velocity field and thus increased sea ice deformation, which further induces strong sea ice area loss. This study also demonstrates a precise atmospheric forcing field is essential for sea ice modeling. Plain Language Summary: We use a numerical model to study the effects of a strong Arctic cyclone on sea ice. First, we use a newly developed "cyclone removal algorithm" to remove the cyclone from the atmospheric data that is used to force the model. We can then compare how the sea ice changes between the model runs with and without the cyclone. We find that the cyclone has a strong local impact on sea ice, and sea ice losses are different on the two sides of the cyclone's path. The cyclone results in warm, moist air and strong wind, which leads to strong sea ice surface melting. At the same time, the cyclone increases the transfer of heat from the ocean to the sea ice, causing strong sea ice bottom melting. The strong wind also leads to more sea ice ridging and a reduction in sea ice area. Our study indicates that the effects of cyclones on sea ice are complex and that atmospheric data must accurately represent cyclones if we want to correctly model changes in the Arctic sea ice. Thickness reduction or loss of the calcareous eggshell is one of major phenotypic changes in the transition from oviparity to viviparity. Whether the reduction of eggshells in viviparous squamates is associated with specific gene losses is unknown. Taking advantage of a newly generated high‐quality genome of the viviparous Chinese crocodile lizard (Shinisaurus crocodilurus), we found that ovocleidin‐17 gene (OC‐17), which encodes an eggshell matrix protein that is essential for calcium deposition in eggshells, is not intact in the crocodile lizard genome. Only OC‐17 transcript fragments were found in the oviduct transcriptome, and no OC‐17 peptides were identified in the eggshell proteome of crocodile lizards. In contrast, OC‐17 was present in the eggshells of the oviparous Mongolia racerunner (Eremias argus). Although the loss of OC‐17 is not common in viviparous species, viviparous squamates show fewer intact eggshell‐specific proteins than oviparous squamates. Our study implies that functional loss of eggshell‐matrix protein genes may be involved in the reduction of eggshells during the transition from oviparity to viviparity in the crocodile lizard.
