Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors (HIF-PHIs) are new drugs developed for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This class of drugs stimulates endogenous erythropoietin production and, at the same time, improves iron absorption and mobilization of iron stores (less evident with daprodustat, vadadustat and enarodustat). Several studies have been published in the last few years showing that these agents are not inferior to standard therapy in correcting anemia associated with CKD. The efficacy of HIF-PHIs is coupled with a safety profile comparable to that of standard erythropoiesis stimulating agent (ESA) treatment. However, studies with HIF-PHIs were not long enough to definitively exclude the impact of new drugs on adverse events, such as cancer, death and possibly cardiovascular events, that usually occur after a long follow-up period. Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) recently reported the conclusions of the Controversies Conference on HIF-PHIs held in 2021. The goal of the present position paper endorsed by the Italian Society of Nephrology is to better adapt the conclusions of the latest KDIGO Conference on HIF-PHIs to the Italian context by reviewing the efficacy and safety of HIF-PHIs as well as their use in subpopulations of interest as emerged from more recent publications not discussed during the KDIGO Conference., (© 2024. Due to the exponential growth of the number of subjects affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the entire Italian health care system had to respond promptly and in a very short time with the need of semi-intensive and intensive care units. Moreover, trained dedicated COVID-19 teams consisting of physicians were coming from different specialties (intensivists or pneumologists and infectiologists), while respiratory therapists and nurses have been recruited to work on and on without rest. However, due to still limited and evolving knowledge of COVID-19, there are few recommendations concerning the need in respiratory rehabilitation and physiotherapy interventions. The presentation of this paper is the result of a consensus promoted by the Italian societies of respiratory health care professionals who contacted pulmonologists directly involved in the treatment and rehabilitation of COVID-19. The aim was to formulate the more proper and common suggestions to be applied in different hospital settings in offering rehabilitative programs and physiotherapy workforce planning for COVID-19 patients. Since the publication of the Italian League Against Epilepsy guidelines for the treatment of status epilepticus in 2006, advances in the field have ushered in improvements in the therapeutic arsenal. The present position paper provides neurologists, epileptologists, neurointensive care specialists, and emergency physicians with updated recommendations for the treatment of adult patients with status epilepticus. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a pivotal radiological examination in clinical practice, being widely applied for musculoskeletal examinations. In this setting, strict adherence to standardized protocol is crucial to increase diagnostic performance and minimize variability among different diagnostic centres and readers. The aim of this paper is to provide standardized technical recommendations for musculoskeletal MRI scans proposed by the Italian College of Musculoskeletal Radiology. These recommendations are designed to give a uniform application of MRI protocols over the national territory, to increase reproducibility and improve diagnostic performance.

Telemedicine is the provision of health care services, through the use of information and communication technology, in situations where the health care professional and the patient, or 2 health care professionals, are not in the same location. It involves the secure transmission of medical data and information, through text, sound, images, or other forms needed for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of a patient. First data on implementation of telemedicine for the diagnosis and treatment of acute myocardial infarction date from more than 10 years ago. Telemedicine has a potential broad application to the cardiovascular disease continuum and in many branches of cardiology, at least including heart failure, ischemic heart disease and arrhythmias. Telemedicine might have an important role as part of a strategy for the delivery of effective health care for patients with cardiovascular disease.
