Objectives: The study aimed to identify the preferred management techniques used by dentists in Greece for treating deep carious lesions or pulp exposure during the removal of carious tissue in teeth with irreversible pulpitis. Additionally, the study sought to explore how patient-related factors (such as age and symptoms) and operator-related factors (like material choice and the use of antibiotics) influence these management decisions., Materials and Methods: The questionnaire, developed by five investigators, was divided into two parts: the first gathered respondent demographics, and the second presented clinical scenarios of deep carious lesions, requesting treatment strategies, materials used, and antibiotic prescription practices. The scenarios described patients with intense spontaneous pain and very deep carious lesions, differentiated by age and tooth development status.Data collection was via Google Drive, with analysis performed using SPSS 28, Chi-square, and Fisher's exact tests, with significance set at p < 0.05., Results: The study polled 453 Greek dentists about their treatment choices, for deep carious lesions in mature and immature teeth with irreversible pulpitis The majority favored root canal treatment for mature teeth, however quite a few opted for partial or cervical pulpotomy. MTA emerged as the preferred capping material, emphasizing its biocompatibility. Hemostasis management varied, with saline and sodium hypochlorite as popular choices. In cases of immature teeth, a shift towards vital pulp therapy was evident, reflecting a preference for preserving healthy pulp to avoid complex procedures., Conclusions: Challenges identified include varying treatment preferences, the significance of bleeding control in vital pulp therapy, and the limited use of antibiotics for irreversible pulpitis. While the study has limitations, including sample size and potential biases, its findings offer valuable insights into the decision-making processes of Greek dentists., Clinical Relevance: Future research and ongoing education within the dental community could contribute to standardizing treatment approaches and optimizing outcomes for patients with deep carious lesions and irreversible pulpitis., (© 2024. Introduction: Diet and physical activity might be associated with the risk of allergic diseases in childhood. However, evidence in literature is sparse and diverse. We aim to examine the associations between four healthy dietary consumption pattern drinks, plus the adherence to a physically active lifestyle with atopic diseases (asthma, allergic rhinitis and eczema) in adolescence and their relative importance. Methods: A total of 1934 adolescents (921 boys, 47.5%) and their parents completed a validated questionnaire assessing atopic diseases' symptoms prevalence in the past 12 months, as well as nutritional and physical activity information. Four healthy dietary and one physical active lifestyle patterns were identified and logistic regression was applied to assess their relation with allergic diseases. Results: A high weekly consumption of fruits, vegetables and pulses and low consumption of unhealthy foods was negatively associated with all atopic symptoms while adherence to a physical active lifestyle was inversely associated with asthma and allergic rhinitis symptoms and dairy products with asthma and eczema symptoms in the past 12 months after adjustment for several confounders (all p < 0.05). Fruits, vegetables and pulses consumption per week emerged as the most important lifestyle pattern negatively associated for all atopic diseases, after the adjustment for all the remaining lifestyle patterns and confounders (all p < 0.05) Conclusions: Our findings suggest that a high fruit, vegetable and pulse intake should be the first lifestyle intervention every clinician and public health care worker evolving in the management of atopic adolescents should encourage and promote. Research data indicate the possible effect of both polyphenols consumption and Mediterranean diet adherence on metabolic diseases' prevalence. The present retrospective study investigated the possible association of polyphenols mean daily intake with Mediterranean diet adherence and anthropometric indices in a sample of the Greek population. A total of 250 healthy volunteers, aged between 18 and 65 years, were randomly recruited from central and northern Greece. Total daily polyphenols intake was estimated using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) based on the NHANES study, while Med Diet Score was used for the degree of Mediterranean diet adoption. Daily polyphenols intake was identified by the Phenol Explorer database, and anthropometric measurements (BMI, waist-to-hip circumference, and body composition) were performed. The mean daily polyphenols intake was determined to be 1905 mg, while most of the participants had moderate or high mean consumption last year (67.5% of the sample were consuming more than 1000 mg/d). Moderate adherence to the Mediterranean diet (higher Med Diet Score) was associated with increased mean daily polyphenols intake (p = 0.016). Increased polyphenols intake and higher Med Diet Score were associated with decreased waist-to-hip circumference (p = 0.027, 0.004, respectively). Specific functional foods rich in polyphenols, such as sour cherry, tomatoes, black tea, and cocoa were associated with improved body composition indices. Larger epidemiological studies need to be performed for safer conclusions about whole population polyphenols intake and its association with metabolic disease biomarkers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
