The continuous updating and iteration of electronic devices brings about a significant accumulation of heat. It is urgent to enhance the thermal properties of polymer‐based composites to alleviate the heat dissipation problem in the microelectronics industry. In this paper, the hot drawing process was introduced to increase the crystallinity of ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber and improve its thermal conductivity. The ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene fiber/epoxy resin (UHMWPE fiber/Epoxy) composites with high thermal conductivity were prepared by compositing UHMWPE fiber with epoxy resin under vacuum conditions. Due to the good crystallinity of the UHMWPE fiber (86%), an efficient thermal conduction path is provided for phonons in the axial direction along the fibers. The results show that the thermal conductivity of the composites reaches a maximum of 3.51 W/mK (in‐plane), which is 17.47 times higher than that of the epoxy resin (0.19 W/mK). The thermography pictures indicate that the composites have better heat transfer capacity with an increase in the draw ratio (λ). In addition, the composites also have the characteristics of low density and low electrical conductivity. These researches will provide a new idea for the preparation of all‐polymer composites with high thermal properties. Thermal and electrical properties were investigated for five nominally phase‐pure high entropy carbide ceramics. The compositions (Hf0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C, (Cr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C, (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C, (Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2W0.2Zr0.2)C, and (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ti0.2W0.2Zr0.2)C were synthesized by carbothermal reduction of oxides. The thermal diffusivity and heat capacity were measured from room temperature to 1800°C. The room temperature thermal conductivity ranged from 5.1 W/mK for (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ti0.2W0.2Zr0.2)C to 9.0 W/mK for (Cr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C. The thermal conductivity increased over the temperature range with maximum conductivities of 19.6 W/mK measured for (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C to 29.7 W/mK for (Cr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C at 1800°C. The electron contribution to thermal conductivity calculated from measured electrical resistivity varied from 41% to 52% of the total thermal conductivity. The tungsten and molybdenum containing compositions had higher phonon contributions while the niobium and chromium containing compositions had nearly equal electron and phonon contributions to thermal conductivity. The thermophysical properties of molten salts promising for the nuclear industry are crucial, but the available data are limited and contradictory. The thermal diffusivity of the molten mixtures (NaF-KF)eut–UF4 containing 30, 40, and 50 mol % UF4 was measured by the laser flash method. The thermal diffusivity was found to be almost independent of temperature in the range of about 100° (1070 K–1170 K), which makes it possible to extrapolate values to low or high temperatures. The thermal conductivity of the molten mixtures (NaF-KF)eut–UF4 was calculated using the thermal diffusivity, density, and heat capacity data. Density was estimated using the molar volume of the molten binary systems NaF-UF4 and KF-UF4. The heat capacity of the ternary system NaF-KF-UF4 was evaluated based on the heat capacity of individual salts, taking into account the additivity law. The thermal conductivity of the molten mixtures 0.7(NaF-KF)eut–0.3UF4, 0.6(NaF-KF)eut–0.4UF4, and 0.5(NaF-KF)eut–0.5UF4 changes slightly with the UF4 content and temperature; for example, at 1123 K it is 0.48, 0.45, and 0.45 W·m−1·K−1, respectively. The thermal diffusivity of the pure molten UF4 was estimated using three independent approaches: the concentration, the temperature, and the volume dependences of the thermal diffusivity. The miniaturization and high-power density of modern electronic devices pose significant thermal management issues, particularly affecting their performance and lifetime. Ladder-like polysilsesquioxanes (LPSQs) offer a promising solution due to their remarkable thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties. By incorporating thermally conductive fillers, LPSQ composites can achieve high thermal conductivity (TC), making them ideal for thermal management in advanced electronic applications. In this study, LPSQ-based nanocomposites containing functionalized alumina nanoparticles were prepared by solution casting and UV curing, and the effects of varying amounts of Irgacure-184 photoinitiator on their structural and thermal properties were investigated. Three sets of samples were prepared with a fixed amount of LPSQs, 80 wt.% of nanoparticles, and 1, 5, or 10 wt.% of photoinitiator with respect to the matrix. TC was evaluated from the measured values of heat capacity, density, and thermal diffusivity. TC values increased by 60%, 71.2%, and 93.1% for the three samples, respectively, compared to the neat matrix. Results indicate that an intermediate amount of photoinitiator (5%) preserved LPSQs' structural integrity, namely the presence of long linear silsesquioxane chains, and provided good filler dispersion and distribution, high polymerization degree, thermal stability, and high TC. In recent years, attention to the realization and characterization of wetsuits for scuba diving and other sea sports or activities has increased. The research has aimed to establish reliable and standardized measurement methods to objectively assess wetsuit quality, particularly focusing on their mechanical and thermal properties. In this work, we describe and compare two different measurement methods for the characterization of neoprene wetsuit thermal resistivity. The first method follows the existing regulations in the field, while the second one, which we are originally proposing in this paper, offers an alternative yet accurate way based on a simplified experimental set-up and easier measurements. In both cases, the wetsuit sample under testing was shaped in the form of a cylindrical sleeve of proper dimensions and wrapped around a phantom containing water at a higher temperature and surrounded by water at a lower temperature. The wetsuit's cylindrical surface allows heat flow from the warmer water on the inside to the colder water on the outside through the wetsuit area. In the first case, a thermal steady state was achieved, with constant heat flow from the phantom to the exterior. This was obtained with a power balance between two homogenous quantities. Electrically supplied thermal heating within the phantom was used to balance the thermal energy naturally flowing through the wetsuit's surface. In this first case, a stable and fixed temperature difference was obtained between the inner and the outer surfaces of the wetsuit sample. In the second case, a thermal transient was analyzed during the cooling process of the phantom, and the thermal time constant was measured, providing the sample thermal resistance once the phantom thermal capacity was known. In both cases and methods, the heat flow and thermal resistance of other elements than the wetsuit must be evaluated and compensated for if they are not negligible. Finally, the thermal resistivity per unit area of the wetsuit material was obtained with the product of the wetsuit sample's thermal resistance and the wetsuit area. The measurements, conducted until now by immersing the phantom in a free surface tank, show that both methods—under stationary and under transient temperature conditions—were valid to assess the wetsuit's thermal resistivity. The stationary method somehow provided better accuracy while involving less well-known parameters but at the expense of a more complicated experimental set-up and additional energy consumption. The transitory method, on the other hand, is quite easy to implement and, after careful characterization of the phantom's parameters, it provided similar results to the stationary one. An uncertainty budget was evaluated for both methods, and they did provide highly compatible measurement results, with resistivity values of 0.104(9) m2·K/W (stationary method) and 0.095(9) K·m2/W (transient method) for the same wetsuit sample under testing, which is also consistent with the values in the literature. This study investigates the thermal conductivity (λ) and volumetric heat capacity (C) of sandy soil samples under a variety of conditions, including freeze-thaw cycles at temperatures both above and below zero and differing moisture levels. To estimate these thermal properties, a novel predictive model, EFAttNet, was developed, which utilizes custom-designed embedding and attention-based fusion networks. When compared to traditional de Vries empirical models and other baseline algorithms, EFAttNet demonstrated superior accuracy. Preliminary measurements showed that λ values increased linearly with moisture content but decreased with temperature, whereas C values exhibited a rising trend with both moisture content and freezing temperature. Following freeze-thaw cycles, both λ and C were positively influenced by moisture content and freezing temperature. The EFAttNet-based model proved highly accurate in predicting thermal properties, particularly effective at capturing nonlinear relationships among the influencing factors. Among these factors, the degree of saturation had the most significant impact, followed by the number of freeze-thaw cycles, subzero temperatures, porosity, and moisture content. Notably, dry density exerted minimal influence on thermal properties, likely due to the overriding effects of other factors or specific soil characteristics, such as particle size distribution or mineralogical composition. These findings have significant implications for construction and engineering projects, especially in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency. The demonstrated accuracy of the EFAttNet-based model in estimating thermal properties under various conditions holds promise for practical applications. Lunar meteorites are the most diverse and readily available specimens for the direct laboratory study of lunar surface materials. In addition to informing us about the composition and heterogeneity of lunar material, measurements of their thermo‐physical properties provide data necessary to inform the models of the thermal evolution of the lunar surface and provide data on fundamental physical properties of the surface material for the design of exploration and resource extraction hardware. Low‐temperature data are particularly important for the exploration of low‐temperature environments of the lunar poles and permanently shadowed regions. We report low‐temperature‐specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and linear thermal expansion for six lunar meteorites: Northwest Africa [NWA] 5000, NWA 6950, NWA 8687, NWA 10678, NWA 11421, and NWA 11474, over the range 5 ≤ T ≤ 300 K. From these, we calculate thermal inertia and thermal diffusivity as functions of temperature. Furthermore, tin-based compositions have been much less investigated as compared to silicon or germanium analogs. We report the temperature-dependent structural and thermal properties of single-crystal Eu2Ga11Sn35 revealing the effect of structure and composition on the thermal properties of this low-cation clathrate-I material. Specifically, low-temperature heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and synchrotron single-crystal x-ray diffraction reveal a departure from Debye-like behavior, a glass-like phonon mean-free path for this crystalline material, and a relatively large Grüneisen parameter due to the dominance of low-frequency Einstein modes. The use of iron waste in concrete is now of considerable importance, mainly because of the benefits for the environment and for improving the strength of concrete. The increased and unused of this industrial byproducts represents a challenge for the environment and human health. This article experimentally explores the influence of utilizing iron powder waste and iron fibers in concrete in order to enhance the thermophysical properties of concrete and reduce the environmental impact resulting from iron waste. The aim of this work is to study the thermophysical properties (thermal conductivity, volumetric heat capacity, thermal diffusivity and thermal effusivity) of concrete with waste iron powder and iron fibers for application in building construction. The iron powder waste was added to the concrete with different percentages of 0%, 5%, 15%, 20% and 25% respectively as a partial replacement of sand. The iron fibers were added with mix proportions including 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0% and 2.5% by volume of concrete, and in two different arrangements, uniform and random. The thermal conductivity and the volumetric heat capacity of these samples were measured experimentally in the dry state at ambient temperature (20 °C), and at 28 days of age. Advanced electronics technology is moving towards smaller footprints and higher computational power. In order to achieve this, advanced packaging techniques are currently being considered, including organic, glass, and semiconductor-based substrates that allow for 2.5D or 3D integration of chips and devices. Metal-core substrates are a new alternative with similar properties to those of semiconductor-based substrates but with the added benefits of higher flexibility and metal ductility. This work comprehensively compares the thermal properties of a novel metal-based substrate, molybdenum, and silicon and fused silica glass substrates in the context of system-on-foil (SoF) integration. A simple electronic technique is used to simulate the heat generated by a typical CPU and to measure the heat dissipation properties of the substrates. The results indicate that molybdenum and silicon are able to effectively dissipate a continuous power density of 2.3 W/mm2 as the surface temperature only increases by ~15 °C. In contrast, the surface temperature of fused silica glass substrates increases by >140 °C for the same applied power. These simple techniques and measurements were validated with infrared camera measurements as well as through finite element analysis via COMSOL simulation. The rapid development of micro-electronics has a growing demand on the heat dissipation performance of devices, especially thermal management materials. However, recent researches focus on the improvement of single ability, such as thermal or mechanical properties. Herein, a strategy that simultaneously improves thermal and mechanical performance of thermal manager material was proposed, which was achieved by preparing Cu-SiC w composites via the co-electrodeposition technology. The influence of electroplating parameters, such as temperature, current density and reinforcement contents, on the microstructure evolution, mechanical and thermal conductivity were investigated systematically. The fabricated SiC w composite displayed excellent shear strength up to 420 MPa, which is resulted from the Orowan strengthening and load transferring. Additionally, the thermal conductivity of 340 W/(m·K) was obtained, owing to the uniform distribution of whiskers and good interface between the Cu matrix and whiskers. Therefore, the presented work provided an effective method for fabricating comprehensive thermal-mechanical properties and homogeneous heat dissipation capacity Cu-SiC w composites and paved the way for the practical application in the field of the connector between the power devices and heat sinks. The most important thermal and rheological properties of water-based CaCO3/SiO2 dual hybrid nanofluid (DHNF) at overall volumetric concentrations of the nanoparticles from 0.1 to 0.5 and different volume fractions at temperatures of 15–60 °C have been studied. Prepared DHNFs consisted using SDS and ultrasonic homogenizer. Stability analysis of the DHNFs performed by changing ultrasonication time and power. The optimum consistency conditions and volume fractions of the nanoparticles determined for the prepared DHNFs. Specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity and resistivity, usual viscosity and density of the DHNFs studied, experimentally, compared with preexisting models, and finally, theoretical models with 99% precisions suggested. Maximum augmentation in thermal conductivity attained to 21.8% for 80:20 corresponding volume ratio and 0.5 vol% total concentration. At these conditions, maximum reduction in heat capacity occurred as 1.08%, and the greatest reduction in thermal resistivity got about 22.2% at 60 °C. As ceramics based on magnesium aluminum oxynitrides solid solutions are promising materials as refractories, windows/armors, phosphors, and so forth, it is essential to explore their thermal and thermomechanical properties, owing to the physical requirements on application. In this study, Mg5xAl23−5xO27+5xN5−5x were chosen for the investigation on composition‐dependent thermal and thermomechanical properties by the theoretical calculations. Though the binary system with octahedral bonds contributes more to the thermal expansion coefficient of Mg5xAl23−5xO27+5xN5−5x, the binary system with tetrahedral bonds plays an important role in the variation of the thermal expansion coefficient. The change of heat capacity with the rise of x is mainly attributed to the variation of covalent character of Mg5xAl23−5xO27+5xN5−5x. Moreover, the thermal conductivity is mainly affected by the scattering from atoms in 8a sites. Both thermal and mechanical properties contribute to the variation of thermomechanical properties of Mg5xAl23−5xO27+5xN5−5x. Conducting in-situ measurements of planetary environments is a key scientific goal in the geoscience field for the extraterrestrial exploration, such as the Moon or Mars. Among these measurements, determining the thermal properties of regolith is particularly challenging due to the material's inhomogeneities. In this paper, an active thermal probing technique is proposed, utilizing a transient hot-wire technique with a needle-like probe structure integrated with temperature sensors and a heater. It is capable of measuring in-situ temperature variations and inner heat flux without disturbing the surrounding regolith. In addition, a machine-learning-based method is proposed for inverting in-situ thermophysical properties, including density, thermal conductivity, and heat capacity. An embedded artificial neural network model has been developed and trained with data sets from both finite element simulations and experiments. This machine learning model is capable of efficiently predicting temperature responses for different lunar regolith simulants. For total 12 parameters, the errors of ten cases are less than 10%, and other two cases are 12.23% and 13.17%. Finally, the proposed method is verified by heat measurement experiments under normal pressure and vacuum, and the variation of thermal properties with different compactness is obtained. Solid–liquid organic phase-change micro/nanocapsules are potential candidates for energy storage. Recently, significant progress has been made regarding phase-change micro/nanocapsules in terms of their synthesis, properties, and applications. Extensive research has been conducted to enhance their thermal properties, such as thermal storage capacity, thermal conductivity, and thermal reliability. However, factors that influence the thermal properties of micro/nanocapsules have received little attention. This study presents a comprehensive review of phase-change micro/nanocapsules focusing on their thermal properties and their influencing factors. In addition, the thermal properties of the major solid–liquid organic pure phase-change materials are summarized. Furthermore, common micro/nanoencapsulation methods and their influence on the thermal properties were analyzed. Finally, the potential applications of these phase-change micro/nanocapsules were also investigated. This study focused on an important global issue containing both environmental pollution control and energy storage. Polyaniline has been utilized as a supporting material to load paraffin in order to form highly thermal conducting and shape-stable phase change material (PCM). Three different weight percentages (wt%), i.e., 10, 15, and 20 wt%, of polyaniline have been used to obtain shape-stable composite materials. The paraffin leakage of the prepared samples PPCM1, PPCM2, and PPCM3 has been examined by 500 thermal cycles in a hot air oven at 80 °C. Among three samples, the PPCM3 composite with 20 wt% of polyaniline in paraffin has shown excellent leakage-bearing properties with only ~ 0.06% leakage after 500 thermal cycles. Further, the chemical, structural, and morphological analyses of the PPCM3 composite have been carried out by FTIR, XRD, and FESEM. The thermal performance of the prepared sample has been studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, which revealed that the impregnation of polyaniline polymer has improved the thermal stability and thermal conductivity of paraffin with a small decrement in latent heat capacity of the PPCM3 composite. The latent heat of the composite decreased by 18.36% and thermal conductivity increased by ~ 65.45% for a 20 wt% concentration of polyaniline in paraffin with the maximum latent heat capacity. To check the thermal reliability of the formulated PPCM3 composite, the composite has been subjected to thermal cycling of 500 thermal cycles. With increased thermal conductivity, high latent heat capacity, good shape stability, excellent leakage-bearing capability, and improved thermal reliability, paraffin/polyaniline composite PCMs look promising for application in thermal energy storage areas. In transportation applications, filling high pressurised hydrogen tanks within a few minutes implies a fast and large temperature increase that can compromise the structural integrity of the storage system and the safety of the process. Common approaches to control this temperature increase mainly involve hydrogen pre-cooling using complex and energy-demanding refrigeration systems. This study proposes and assesses alternative and energy efficient thermal management strategies for fast filling of hydrogen tanks including the modification of the liner's thermal properties and the use of existing on-board refrigeration systems. The analysis is performed by means of a Computational Fluid Dynamics model validated against experimental observations. Results show that proposed solutions provide a robust and efficient alternative to hydrogen pre-cooling, potentially simplifying the hydrogen supply system, reducing its associated energy demand, maintaining the hydrogen temperature below admissible limits and increasing the state of charge of the tank. • Strategies are based on liner pre-cooling and its thermal properties modification. • Similar H 2 temperature is achieved when pre-cooling it or changing liner properties. • Energy consumption of liner pre-cooling is up to 42–68% lower than H 2 pre-cooling. • Liner heat capacity increase is more effective than thermal conductivity increase. • Strategies increase the SOC up to 3.5% points compared to H 2 pre-cooling. Deep coaxial borehole heat exchanger (DCBHE) is a promising kind of ground heat exchanger for geothermal exploitation. In this study, effects of stratified ground thermophysical properties (GTP) are considered, and then an improved semi-analytical heat transfer model is developed and validated to analyze the DCBHE performance. Then, influences of stratified GTP on the DCBHE performance are investigated. Finally, thermal response test (TRT) of DCBHE with stratified GTP is simulated by a numerical model, and by using the simulated TRT data, the improved model is combined with a parameter estimation method to identify the effective values of GTP, which are compared with actual values. The results show that stratified ground thermal conductivities have an important influence on the DCBHE performance, and that stratified volumetric heat capacities of ground have a small influence on the DCBHE performance. The DCBHE performances based on the effective values and actual values of GTP match well with each other for different cases and geothermal gradients, indicating that for stratified thermal conductivities or volumetric heat capacities of ground, the effective GTP are reliable and can be used for accurately predicting the DCBHE performance. Measuring the thermal properties of anisotropic films of hybrid materials poses a challenge to existing metrology techniques. We have developed a new approach for measuring the volumetric heat capacity and anisotropic thermal conductivity of these systems using the 3ω method. While there exist many avenues for measuring the thermal properties of thin films, most carry with them difficult requirements such as smooth surfaces or advanced lithography. Here, we present measurements of a film's in-plane and cross-plane conductance and its volumetric heat capacity using relatively simple sample configurations, each requiring a single heater. For the measurement of volumetric heat capacity, we present a new model fitting method, relying on a standard film-on-substrate configuration. For the measurement of in-plane thermal conductance by 3ω, we have developed the use of an embedded micro-wire heater in suspended drop cast films, allowing for a 12 μm wide heater without the need for advanced lithography. We also expose the surprisingly significant effect of thermal radiation in the suspended film measurement and its associated error. Our measurements reveal a large anisotropy in the thermal conductivity of our test material, Te-PEDOT:PSS, of kin-plane/kcross-plane = 19, consistent with the nanoscale morphology of the material. The mechanical and thermal properties of roller compacted concrete pavement (RCCP) are considerably influenced by its aggregate. This study determined the optimum value of lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) incorporation into the RCCP through the response surface methodology (RSM) with mechanical and thermal properties evaluation. LECA was replaced as coarse aggregate in different percentages of 25, 50, 75, and 100% (by volume) to develop lightweight and high-insulation capacity RCCP, which could be appropriate for cold climatic zones. Two different mixtures of RCCP with normal-weight aggregate comprising 12% and 15% cement were used as control mixtures. The results showed that incorporating LECA at any percentage in RCCP produced more workable concrete. The substitution of LECA in 25–100% decreased the density of RCCPs containing 12% and 15% cement about 8–24% and 7–23%, respectively, while the water absorption increased around 4–77% and 8–72%. The thermal conductivity of RCCPs decreased by increasing the LECA replacement as coarse aggregate. Also, the LECA replacement increment in RCCPs resulted in lower heat capacity values. Overall, it can be concluded that incorporating LECA in RCCP by around 37% as coarse aggregate would satisfy the standards in terms of fresh, mechanical, and thermal properties. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of sludge biochar (BC) application (2, 5, 10, 15% w/w) on the physico-chemical and thermal properties (thermal capacity, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity) of loess and the mechanism of action. The results showed that the application of BC changed the soil particle size distribution, reduced the soil bulk density, increased the soil total porosity (1.19–11.51%), organic matter content (10.94–85.02%), saturated water content (1.85–7.15%) and field water capacity (0.09–13.00%), and decreased the soil thermal capacity, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity, with an average decreasing amplitude of 2.13, 5.45 and 7.54%, respectively. Soil bulk density and water content (<30%) were positively correlated with soil thermal capacity, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity. The mechanisms are mainly that the negative impact of changing soil solid composition and increasing total porosity by biochar with low density and thermal parameter values; and the positive effect of raising water content by improving soil water holding capacity. Accurate temperature rise prediction of the gas‐insulated transmission lines (GIL) can help to lower the cost of equipment through optimization design. To investigate the temperature rise of GIL and the heat transfer efficiency of new eco‐friendly insulating gas, the electromagnetic‐thermal‐fluid field coupling method that considers the thermal properties of solid and gaseous media is proposed. The finite element method is applied to solve the eddy‐current field and obtain the Joule loss of the conductive rod and the enclosure accurately. The GIL temperature distribution of different insulating gases is computed based on their thermophysical parameters. The heat transfer efficiency is found to be positively correlated with gas density, constant pressure heat capacity and thermal conductivity. A parameter that characterizes the heat transfer efficiency of the insulating gas is defined, such that a larger value indicates a higher heat transfer efficiency. We show that the centroid molecular dynamics (CMD) method provides a realistic way to calculate the thermal diffusivity a = λ/ρcV of a quantum mechanical liquid such as para-hydrogen. Once a has been calculated, the thermal conductivity can be obtained from λ = ρcVa, where ρ is the density of the liquid and cV is the constant-volume heat capacity. The use of this formula requires an accurate quantum mechanical heat capacity cV, which can be obtained from a path integral molecular dynamics simulation. The thermal diffusivity can be calculated either from the decay of the equilibrium density fluctuations in the liquid or by using the Green–Kubo relation to calculate the CMD approximation to λ and then dividing this by the corresponding approximation to ρcV. We show that both approaches give the same results for liquid para-hydrogen and that these results are in good agreement with the experimental measurements of the thermal conductivity over a wide temperature range. In particular, they correctly predict a decrease in the thermal conductivity at low temperatures—an effect that stems from the decrease in the quantum mechanical heat capacity and has eluded previous para-hydrogen simulations. This article presents the results of experimental research on the impact of environmentally efficient materials developed on the basis of grey marl and sand with the addition of 3 % to 6 % of rice husk on the thermophysical characteristics: coefficient of thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity and thermal diffusivity. The thermal indicators are measured with a device based on the non-stationary method. The purpose of the research is to investigate the impact of a new type of a light natural organic additive material, the husk of rice grains, on the properties of the resulting composite. The task is to develop a new material which is both thermally efficient and eco-friendly. The results of the research show that the addition of rice husks reduces the coefficient of thermal conductivity by 42 %, of the thermal diffusivity by 38 %, and increases the specific heat capacity by 10 % compared to the reference sample.

The fabrication of high-entropy ceramics has recently expanded the pool of ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs). To properly assess the suitability of these new types of ceramics for advanced aerospace applications, it is of vital interest to extend the characterizations beyond ambient conditions. Here, we have studied the thermal and ablation properties of a high-entropy diboride (HEB): (Hf 0.2 Zr 0.2 Ti 0.2 Ta 0.2 Nb 0.2)B 2. The thermal conductivity of the HEB increases as a function of temperature and becomes comparable to that of other UHTCs at high temperatures. The electron dominated thermal conductivity of HEB is also nearly isotropic along different crystallographic orientations. The temperature-dependent volumetric heat capacity of HEB is measured and found to remain in agreement with that of ZrB 2. Additionally, both material systems possess nearly the same ablation resistance. The multitudes of characterizations performed in this study establishes the suitability of HEB for high thermal load applications in extreme environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work aims to estimate temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and heat capacity given measurements of temperature and heat flux at the boundaries. This estimation problem has many engineering and industrial applications, such as those for the building sector and chemical reactors. Two approaches are proposed to address this problem. The first method uses an integral approach and a polynomial approximation of the temperature profile. The second method uses a numerical solver for the nonlinear heat equation and an optimization algorithm. The performance of the two methods is compared using synthetic data generated with different boundary conditions and configurations. The results demonstrate that the integral approach works in limited scenarios, whereas the numerical approach is effective in estimating temperature-dependent thermal properties. An improved method to simultaneously determine the heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and thermal conductivity of a small-sized material is described. In this method, the heat of a square wave with a superimposed constant component is applied to one side of a plate-shaped sample using a thin-film heater, which is thermally linked to a heat reservoir. The response temperature is measured by a thermometer attached to the heater. In contrast to a previously reported method, the amplitude of the temperature oscillation detected by the thermometer is enhanced by the internal thermal relaxation in the improved method. This feature is advantageous for determining thermal properties with low-heat modulation. We theoretically analyzed the proposed method using a one-dimensional model and demonstrated the method on synthetic quartz (SiO2) and poly(methyl methacrylate) plates in the temperature range of 80–300 K. The thermal properties obtained for both samples using the proposed method were consistent with values reported in the literature. The deviations from the data for the specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and thermal conductivity were estimated to be ∼1%, 2%, and 2%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In induction heating processes, knowledge of the charge material parameters, i.e., thermal conductivity and volumetric heat capacity, as well as resistivity and magnetic permeability, is important both at the stage of preparatory process simulations and during their implementation. The paper presents a measurement method for estimating the thermal diffusivity, volumetric heat capacity, and resistivity of the charge material as a function of temperature on a single measuring setup, using a generator for induction heating as the source of signals. The method is based on the study (for forced temperature levels) of the temperature responses of cylindrical samples of the test materials and the voltage induced in the designed measuring coil after short- or long-term step excitation impulses. The presented approach enabled the dedicated computer-controlled system to obtain the initial values of the searched parameters with an accuracy of several percent. The procedure constitutes an introductory step in the simultaneous determination of a set of searched characteristics, and, by performing measurements, significantly narrows the range of variability in the decision variables of the optimization process. Combining the picosecond transient thermoreflectance (ps-TTR) and picosecond laser flash (ps-LF) techniques, we have developed a novel method to simultaneously measure the thermal effusivity and the thermal diffusivity of metal thin films and determine the thermal conductivity ( κ) and the heat capacity ( c v ) altogether. In order to validate our approach and evaluate the uncertainties, we analyzed five different metal films (Al, Cr, Ni, Pt, and Ti) with thicknesses ranging from 297 nm to 1.2 µm. Our results on thermal transport properties and heat capacity are consistent with reference values, with the uncertainties for the thermal conductivity and the heat capacity measurements below 25% and 15%, respectively. Compared with the ps-TTR technique alone, the combined approach substantially lowers the uncertainty of the thermal conductivity measurement. Uncertainty analyses on various materials show that this combined approach is capable of measuring most of the materials with a wide range of thicknesses, including those with low thermal conductivity (e.g., mica) down to thicknesses as small as 60 nm and ultrahigh thermal conductivity materials (such as cubic BAs) down to 1400 nm. Simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and heat capacity enables exploration of the thermal physical behavior of materials under various thermodynamic and mechanical perturbations, with potential applications in thermal management materials, solid-state phase transitions, and beyond. The photoacoustic method with piezoelectric detection for the simultaneous evaluation of the thermophysical properties is proposed. The approach is based on the settling of an additional heat sink for redistribution of heat fluxes deposited on the sample surface. First, the approach was tested on the porous silicon with well-defined morphology and well-studied properties. Then, heat capacity and thermal conductivity of silicon nanowire arrays were investigated by recovering the experimental data through numerical simulations. The decrease in heat capacity and effective thermal conductivity of the samples upon increasing thickness and porosity of the sample was observed. Such a behavior could be caused by the increase of the structure heterogeneity. In particular, this can be related to a larger disorder (increased density of broken nanowires and larger porosity) that appears during the etching process of the thick layers. We study magnetic, transport, and thermal properties of Co2C and Co3C nanocomposites mixed in a 1:1 ratio. The nanocomposite has clusters with an average diameter of 40 ± 15 nm. We show that the behavior of the nanocomposite is completely different from that of only Co3C or Co2C. We observed that with decreasing temperature, the saturation magnetization MS(T) increases, with a steep rise seen below 100 K. A detailed analysis shows that the increase in MS(T) down to 100 K is explained via a surface spin freezing model. However, below 100 K, the steep increase in MS(T) is explained by a finite size effect related to the confinement of spin waves within nanoparticles. Heat capacity measurements show a broad peak at 100 K along with a low temperature anomaly at 43 K (=Tex). Resistance measurements of the nanocomposite show metallic behavior at high T with an anomalous feature appearing at Tex, which is near the T regime, where MS(T) begins to increase steeply. A measurement of the temperature gradients across the sample thickness indicates an abrupt change in thermal conductivity at Tex. Our results suggest a transformation from a magnetically coupled state with a continuous spectrum of spin waves into a magnetically decoupled state below 100 K with confined spin waves. Thermal properties of rocks are of great importance not only for geothermal projects. The focus of petrophysical data presented here is laid mainly on volcanic rocks. Thermal properties include not only thermal conductivity but also heat production and heat capacity. A full range of dataset and analysis out of it is presented here. The target of this study is to deliver new insights in the thermal properties of volcanic rocks of Austria. The focus is laid on thermal conductivity—understanding of influencing factors and correlations with other properties, like compressional wave velocity, electrical resistivity or radiogenic heat production. Therefore, a set of data from various volcanic rocks of Austria is presented, analysed in detail and new correlations are presented. The correlations can be further applied on logging data to derive thermal properties in the field. This research aimed to quantify the effects of biochar derived from corn straw on soil thermal conductivity, capacity, and diffusivity. Firstly, the amount of biochar application (w/w) added to light sierozem soil was 0% to 5%, and the mixtures were packed into soil columns at a consistent bulk density (1.20 g.cm-3). Secondly, soil columns with a consistent biochar addition rate (5%) were packed to different bulk densities of 1.30, 1.25, 1.20, 1.15, and 1.10 g.cm-3. Soil thermal characteristics were measured under the control of soil moisture content from 0% to 40%. Under consistent bulk-density conditions, biochar could significantly reduce soil thermal conductivity and diffusivity. Still, there wasn't a significant influence on soil heat capacity in most soil moisture content levels. With the decrease of soil bulk density, soil thermal conductivity, capacity, and diffusion coefficient reduced significantly. As soil water content increased, all the indexes of thermal properties largely improved, and the effects were much more significant than those of biochar amendment and bulk density change on soil thermal performances. In vivo determination of the skin's thermal properties is of growing interest. Several types of sensors are being designed and tested. In this field, we have developed a skin calorimeter for the determination of the heat flow, the heat capacity and the thermal resistance of the skin. The calorimeter calibration consists of the determination of the parameters of the model we have chosen to represent the behavior of the device. This model considers the heat capacity and the thermal resistance of the skin, which depend on the case (body zone, subject, physical state, etc.) and also have a strong time dependence. Therefore, this work includes a validation study with reference materials. Finally, it is concluded that the heat capacity determined is a function of the thermal penetration depth of the measurement characteristics. In the case of high thermal conductivity materials in which the thermal penetration is nearly total, the heat capacity obtained coincides with that of the reference material sample. Permafrost regions are experiencing increasing air temperatures, accelerating the thawing process, and thickening the active layer in summer. This can accelerate the release of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere from the organic carbon stored in the permafrost. The long‐term thawing rates of permafrost below the active layer are governed by the soil thermal properties, the heat capacity, and thermal conductivity, which vary due to differences in grain sizes and distribution and organic matter content. Using nine column experiments comprised of fully saturated synthetic permafrost samples exposed to freeze–thaw cycles, the relative contributions of a range of soil grain sizes and organic matter contents on the soil thermal properties were investigated. The columns were subjected to a freeze and thaw cycle while soil temperatures were recorded in profiles. To infer the thermal properties from these experimental data, a numerical heat transfer model was used. The best fit between the observations and a batch of 5544 numerical models was used to find optimum values for permafrost thermal properties. The optimized heat capacity varied between 500 and 650 (J/m3 K) and thermal conductivity between 2.45 and 3.55 (W/m K). These optimized parameters were subsequently used to model a 100‐year permafrost active layer thaw scenario under warming air temperatures. Variations in the optimized thermal properties resulted in a time difference in thawing depth of 10–15 years and thawing depths varied between 9 and 10 m between the different optimized thermal properties at the end of the 100‐year scenario. To make the current charging time of electric vehicles meet the technical requirements of rapid charging, the higher the charging current needs to be increased. Consequently, higher requirements are put forward for the heat dissipation capacity of the charging pile cable. Therefore, obtaining insulation materials with good electrical and thermal properties is vital to solving the heat dissipation problem of charging pile cables. This paper modified polypropylene (PP) with polystyrene‐ethylene‐butadiene‐styrene (SEBS). Boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) and boron nitride nanospheres (BNNOS) were used as thermally conductive fillers to construct A‐B‐A‐B ... A type thermally conductive pathways in SEBS/PP matrix. In SEM tests, it can be observed that the orientation of BNNS along the direction perpendicular to the pressure increases. DSC tests show that the introduction of BN particles lowers the melting point of the SEBS/PP matrix and increases the crystallization temperature of the composite. In the thermal conductivity experiment, with the rise of the content of BNNOS and the number of multilayer structures, the thermal conductivity gradually increases, up to 0.514 W/m K, which is three times the thermal conductivity of the SEBS/PP matrix. This paper investigates thermal transport in a nanocomposite system consisting of a porous silicon matrix filled with ionic liquid. Firstly, the thermal conductivity and heat capacity of two imidazolium and one ammonium ionic liquids were evaluated using the photoacoustic approach in piezoelectric configuration and differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. Then, the thermal transport properties of the composite system "ionic liquid confined inside porous silicon matrix" were investigated with the photoacoustic approach in gas-microphone configuration. The results demonstrated a significant enhancement of the thermal conductivity of the composite system when compared to the individual components, i.e. (i) more than two times for pristine porous silicon and (ii) more than eight times for ionic liquids. In this paper, hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) are used as fillers to improve the thermal properties of polyester resin. The thermal conductivity coefficient is obtained from experiment and numerical simulations and their results are compared. The thermal conductivity coefficient is measured using KD2 Pro which shows that the thermal conductivity coefficient decreases as the HGM weight fraction increases. For numerical simulations, the HGM sizes are obtained for different weight fractions based on the SEM images, Image J software and the histogram diagram. The RVEs are produced in Digimat and exported into COMSOL Code where the heat transfer problem is solved and the thermal conductivity coefficient is calculated. The HGM size and distribution show no practical effect on the conductivity coefficient. The results of temperature dependent and independent heat capacities and thermal conductivity coefficient are compared which show that the thermal conductivity coefficient using the constant specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity coefficient of matrix shows a better agreement with the experiment. Using the Cooperative rearranging region (CRR) estimate, the interphase width is calculated and added to the model which results show no difference with those without the interphase since its width is much smaller than the HGM size. A study was made of a thermal interface based on a two-dimensional allotropic modification of carbon (graphene), presented in the form of a powder, for cooling integrated circuits. Such physical properties of the thermal interface as thermal conductivity, heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and density are determined by the empirical method. The process of heat transfer in the most efficient thermal interface sample during the operation of integrated circuits in the ANSYS engineering analysis system is presented. The prospects of using pressed graphene powder as a thermal interface in order to eliminate the use of a binder are described. The absorption of heat by rocks is accompanied by an increase in the kinetic energy of molecules and atoms and is recorded by a change in rock temperature. The thermal properties of rocks characterize the ability to transfer and absorb heat and change their size when the temperature rises. The main thermal properties of rocks are thermal conductivity, heat capacity, linear thermal expansion, and thermal volumetric expansion. In this paper, the influence of temperature effects on the thermal properties of reservoirs – the coefficient of temperature conductivity, specific heat capacity, and thermal conductivity is studied using the samples of oilsaturated reservoirs from the good number 19Bp of the Upper Uplift of Sotnikovsky deposit. The dependence of the thermal properties of the core material on temperature was revealed using a number of laboratory experiments. The results of these studies contribute to improving the reliability of data on the relationship of thermal properties with other physical properties of oilsaturated reservoirs and can be used to improve the efficiency of the development of fields of superviscous oil. Polymer‐derived amorphous SiCN has excellent high‐temperature stability and properties. To reduce the shrinkage during pyrolysis and to improve the high‐temperature oxidation resistance, Y2O3 was added as a filler. In this study, polymer‐derived SiCN–Y2O3 composites were fabricated by mixing a polymeric precursor of SiCN with Y2O3 submicron powders in different ratios. The mixtures were cross‐linked and pyrolyzed in argon. SiCN–Y2O3 composites were processed using field‐assisted sintering technology at 1350°C for 5 min under vacuum. Dense SiCN–Y2O3 composite pellets were successfully made with relative density higher than 98% and homogeneous microstructure. Due to low temperature and short time of the heat‐treatment, the grain growth of Y2O3 was substantially inhibited. The Y2O3 grain size was ∼1 μm after sintering. The composites' heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, and thermal expansion coefficients were characterized as a function of temperature. The thermal conductivity of the composites ceramics decreased as the amount of amorphous SiCN increased and the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the composites increased with Y2O3 content. However, the thermal conductivity and CTE did not follow the rule of mixture. This is likely due to the partial oxidation of SiCN and the resultant impurity phases such as Y2SiO5, Y2Si2O7, and Y4.67(SiO4)3O. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the rapid development of multifunctional and miniaturized electronic devices, the demand for polymer composites with mechanical properties, high‐thermal conductivity, and dielectric properties is increasing. Therefore, the heat dissipation capacity of the composite must be improved. To solve this problem, we report a glass fabric (GF)/boron nitride (BN) network with a highly thermally conductive hetero‐structured formed using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as an adhesive. The GF and BN are furtherly modified by (3‐aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) for better thermal conductivity enhancement. When the BN content is 30%, the thermal diffusion coefficient and thermal conductivity of obtained PVA‐mBN@mGF (PBG) are 2.843 mm2/s and 1.394 W/(m K), respectively. Epoxy (EP) resin is then introduced to prepare PBG/mBN/EP laminated composites via the hot pressing method as applied as thermal conductive composites. A highest thermal conductivity of 0.67 W/(m K) of PBG/mBN/EP laminated composites is obtained, three times higher than that of pure EP. Amorphous materials are also distinguished from crystals by their thermal properties. The structural disorder seems to be responsible both for a significant increase in heat capacity compared to crystals of the same composition, but also for a significant decrease in thermal conductivity. The temperature dependence of thermal conductivity, unusual for common interpretations of solid-state physics, gave rise to a lot of debates. We review in this article different interpretations of thermal conductivity in amorphous materials. We show finally that the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity in dielectric materials can be understood by relating it to the disorder-dependent harmonic vibrational eigenmodes.
