Abstract

The article describes the potential of tidal barrage solutions for renewable energy generation in Great Britain. The installations on eight major estuaries has been demonstrated, in which they should be capable of meeting at least 10% of present electricity demand, and employing fully proven technology. Under favourable British Treasury discount rates, the demand must be achievable at unit electricity prices that are likely to be competitive against future costs of alternative sources.

2. Study to look at potential of Severn Barrage.

Abstract

The article reports on the potential of the Severn Barrage to produce renewable electricity as the British government gave details of its tidal energy study. It notes that the tidal barrages and lagoons will be examined in the barrage study. It mentions that the barrage could produce 5% of country's electricity. John Hutton, business secretary, said that the Severn Estuary has a tidal potential that could more than double the country's supply of renewable electricity.
