This review focuses on the definitions, modalities, applications, and performance of various aspects of digital twins (DTs) in the context of transmission and industrial machinery. In this regard, the context around Industry 4.0 and even aspirations for Industry 5.0 are discussed. The many definitions and interpretations of DTs in this domain are first summarized. Subsequently, their adoption and performance levels for rotating and industrial machineries for manufacturing and lifetime performance are observed, along with the type of validations that are available. A significant focus on integrating fundamental operations of the system and scenarios over the lifetime, with sensors and advanced machine or deep learning, along with other statistical or data-driven methods are highlighted. This review summarizes how individual aspects around DTs are extremely helpful for lifetime design, manufacturing, or decision making even when a DT can remain incomplete or limited. In recent years, the detection performance of SAR-GMTI (synthetic aperture radar-ground moving target indication) algorithm based on deep learning has always been limited by insufficient measured data due to the heavy operation complexity and high cost of real SAR systems. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an overall DT-based implementation framework for SAR ground moving target intelligent detection tasks. In particular, by virtue of a SAR imaging algorithm, a high-fidelity twin replica of SAR moving targets is established in digital space through parameter traversal based on the prior target characteristics of the obtained measured datasets. Then, the constructed SAR twin datasets is fed into the neural network model to train an intelligent detector by fully learning features of the moving targets and preset the SAR scene in the twin space, which can realize the robust detection of ground moving targets in related practical scenarios with no need for multiple and complex field experiments. Moreover, the effectiveness of the proposed framework is verified on the MiniSAR measured system, and a comparison with traditional CFAR detection method is given simultaneously. Gear fault detection and remaining useful life estimation are important tasks for monitoring the health of rotating machinery. In this study, a new benchmark for endurance gear vibration signals is presented and made publicly available. The new dataset was used in the HUMS 2023 conference data challenge to test anomaly detection algorithms. A survey of the suggested techniques is provided, demonstrating that traditional signal processing techniques interestingly outperform deep learning algorithms in this case. Of the 11 participating groups, only those that used traditional approaches achieved good results on most of the channels. Additionally, we introduce a signal processing anomaly detection algorithm and meticulously compare it to a standard deep learning anomaly detection algorithm using data from the HUMS 2023 challenge and simulated signals. The signal processing algorithm surpasses the deep learning algorithm on all tested channels and also on simulated data where there is an abundance of training data. Mechanistic learning refers to the synergistic combination of mechanistic mathematical modeling and data-driven machine or deep learning. This emerging field finds increasing applications in (mathematical) oncology. This review aims to capture the current state of the field and provides a perspective on how mechanistic learning may progress in the oncology domain. We highlight the synergistic potential of mechanistic learning and point out similarities and differences between purely data-driven and mechanistic approaches concerning model complexity, data requirements, outputs generated, and interpretability of the algorithms and their results. Four categories of mechanistic learning (sequential, parallel, extrinsic, intrinsic) of mechanistic learning are presented with specific examples. We discuss a range of techniques including physics-informed neural networks, surrogate model learning, and digital twins. Example applications address complex problems predominantly from the domain of oncology research such as longitudinal tumor response predictions or time-to-event modeling. As the field of mechanistic learning advances, we aim for this review and proposed categorization framework to foster additional collaboration between the data- and knowledge-driven modeling fields. Further collaboration will help address difficult issues in oncology such as limited data availability, requirements of model transparency, and complex input data which are embraced in a mechanistic learning framework. The development of novel and robust digital methods to support the maintenance of existing road infrastructure requires a large amount of harmonized data. Especially in the context of automated modelling having a large amount of matching data from different perspectives enables disruptive, new use cases that might largely impact the efficiency in maintenance of the built environment. Unfortunately, such data compositions are tedious to collect in real world applications, due to many influential factors, leading to deviations between multiple data sources and the sheer complexity in the process of creating a digital model. However, for deep learning applications, a large amount of carefully annotated data is necessary for robust estimations. Lake thermal dynamics have been considerably impacted by climate change, with potential adverse effects on aquatic ecosystems. To better understand the potential impacts of future climate change on lake thermal dynamics and related processes, the use of mathematical models is essential. In this study, we provide a comprehensive review of lake water temperature modeling. We begin by discussing the physical concepts that regulate thermal dynamics in lakes, which serve as a primer for the description of process‐based models. We then provide an overview of different sources of observational water temperature data, including in situ monitoring and satellite Earth observations, used in the field of lake water temperature modeling. We classify and review the various lake water temperature models available, and then discuss model performance, including commonly used performance metrics and optimization methods. Finally, we analyze emerging modeling approaches, including forecasting, digital twins, combining process‐based modeling with deep learning, evaluating structural model differences through ensemble modeling, adapted water management, and coupling of climate and lake models. This review is aimed at a diverse group of professionals working in the fields of limnology and hydrology, including ecologists, biologists, physicists, engineers, and remote sensing researchers from the private and public sectors who are interested in understanding lake water temperature modeling and its potential applications. This survey provides a comprehensive overview of traditional techniques and deep learning-based methodologies for monocular visual odometry (VO), with a focus on displacement measurement applications. This paper outlines the fundamental concepts and general procedures for VO implementation, including feature detection, tracking, motion estimation, triangulation, and trajectory estimation. This paper also explores the research challenges inherent in VO implementation, including scale estimation and ground plane considerations. The scientific literature is rife with diverse methodologies aiming to overcome these challenges, particularly focusing on the problem of accurate scale estimation. This issue has been typically addressed through the reliance on knowledge regarding the height of the camera from the ground plane and the evaluation of feature movements on that plane. For a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery to operate safely and reliably, an accurate state of health (SOH) estimation is crucial. Data-driven models with manual feature extraction are commonly used for battery SOH estimation, requiring extensive expert knowledge to extract features. In this regard, a novel data pre-processing model is proposed in this paper to extract health-related features automatically from battery-discharging data for SOH estimation. In the proposed method, one-dimensional (1D) voltage data are converted to two-dimensional (2D) data, and a new data set is created using a 2D sliding window. Then, features are automatically extracted in the machine learning (ML) training process. Finally, the estimation of the SOH is achieved by forecasting the battery voltage in the subsequent cycle. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated on the NASA public data set for a Li-ion battery degradation analysis in four different scenarios. The simulation results show a considerable reduction in the RMSE of battery SOH estimation. The proposed method eliminates the need for the manual extraction and evaluation of features, which is an important step toward automating the SOH estimation process and developing battery digital twins. Environmental effects may lead to cracking, stiffness loss, brace damage, and other damages in bridges, frame structures, buildings, etc. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technology could prevent catastrophic events by detecting damage early. In recent years, Deep Learning (DL) has developed rapidly and has been applied to SHM to detect, localize, and evaluate diverse damages through efficient feature extraction. This paper analyzes 337 articles through a systematic literature review to investigate the application of DL for SHM in the operation and maintenance phase of facilities from three perspectives: data, DL algorithms, and applications. Firstly, the data types in SHM and the corresponding collection methods are summarized and analyzed. The most common data types are vibration signals and images, accounting for 80% of the literature studied. Secondly, the popular DL algorithm types and application areas are reviewed, of which CNN accounts for 60%. Then, this article carefully analyzes the specific functions of DL application for SHM based on the facility's characteristics. The most scrutinized study focused on cracks, accounting for 30 percent of research papers. Finally, challenges and trends in applying DL for SHM are discussed. Among the trends, the Structural Health Monitoring Digital Twin (SHMDT) model framework is suggested in response to the trend of strong coupling between SHM technology and Digital Twin (DT), which can advance the digitalization, visualization, and intelligent management of SHM. Intelligent digital twins closely resemble their real-life counterparts. In health and medical care, they enable the real-time monitoring of patients, whereby large amounts of data can be collected to produce actionable information. These powerful tools are constructed with the aid of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning; the Internet of Things; and cloud computing to collect a diverse range of digital data (e.g., from digital patient journals, wearable sensors, and digitized monitoring equipment or processes), which can provide information on the health conditions and therapeutic responses of their physical twins. Intelligent digital twins can enable data-driven clinical decision making and advance the realization of personalized care. Migraines are a highly prevalent and complex neurological disorder affecting people of all ages, genders, and geographical locations. It is ranked among the top disabling diseases, with substantial negative personal and societal impacts, but the current treatment strategies are suboptimal. Personalized care for migraines has been suggested to optimize their treatment. The implementation of intelligent digital twins for migraine care can theoretically be beneficial in supporting patient-centric care management. It is also expected that the implementation of intelligent digital twins will reduce costs in the long run and enhance treatment effectiveness. This study briefly reviews the concept of digital twins and the available literature on digital twins for health disorders such as neurological diseases. Based on these, the potential construction and utility of digital twins for migraines will then be presented. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of digital twin in the supply chain to help researchers, industry practitioners, and academics to understand the trend, development, and focus of the areas of digital twin in the supply chain. This paper found several key clusters of research, including the designing of a digital twin model, integration of a digital twin model, application of digital twin in quality control, and digital twin in digitalization. In the embryonic stage of research, digital twin was tested in the production line with limited optimization. In the development stage, the importance of digital twin in Industry 4.0 was observed, as big data, machine learning, Industrial Internet of Things, blockchain, edge computing, and cloud-based systems complemented digital twin models. Digital twin was applied to improve sustainability in manufacturing and production logistics. In the current prosperity stage with high annual publications, the recent trends of this topic focus on the integration of deep learning, data models, and artificial intelligence for digitalization. This bibliometric analysis also found that the COVID-19 pandemic drove the start of the prosperity stage of digital twin research in the supply chain. Muscle electrophysiology has emerged as a powerful tool to drive human machine interfaces, with many new recent applications outside the traditional clinical domains, such as robotics and virtual reality. However, more sophisticated, functional, and robust decoding algorithms are required to meet the fine control requirements of these applications. Deep learning has shown high potential in meeting these demands, but requires a large amount of high-quality annotated data, which is expensive and time-consuming to acquire. Data augmentation using simulations, a strategy applied in other deep learning applications, has never been attempted in electromyography due to the absence of computationally efficient models. We introduce a concept of Myoelectric Digital Twin - highly realistic and fast computational model tailored for the training of deep learning algorithms. It enables simulation of arbitrary large and perfectly annotated datasets of realistic electromyography signals, allowing new approaches to muscular signal decoding, accelerating the development of human-machine interfaces. Structural damage is inherent in civil engineering structures, and bridges are no exception. It is vital to monitor and keep track of damage in bridge structures as a result of multiple mechanical, environmental and traffic-induced factors. Monitoring the formation and propagation of structural damage is also pertinent for enhancing the service life of bridges. Bridge health monitoring (BHM) has always been an active research area for engineers and stakeholders. While all monitoring techniques intend to provide accurate and decisive information on the remaining useful life, safety, integrity and serviceability of bridges, maintaining uninterrupted operation of a bridge relies strongly on understanding the development and propagation of damage. BHM methods have been extensively researched on bridges over the decades, and new methodologies have started to be used by domain experts, especially within the last decade. Emerging methods, as the products of technology advancements, have resulted in handy tools that have been quickly adopted by bridge engineers. The development of digital twins leads to the pathway toward intelligent buildings. Today, the overwhelming rate of data in buildings carries a high amount of information that can provide an opportunity for a digital representation of the buildings and energy optimization strategies in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. To implement a successful energy management strategy in a building, a data-driven approach should accurately forecast the HVAC features, in particular the indoor temperatures. Accurate predictions not only increase thermal comfort levels, but also play a crucial role in saving energy consumption. This study aims to investigate the capabilities of data-driven approaches and the development of a model for predicting indoor temperatures. A case study of an educational building is considered to forecast indoor temperatures using machine learning and deep learning algorithms. The algorithms' performance is evaluated and compared. The important model parameters are sorted out before choosing the best architecture. Considering real data, prediction models are created for indoor temperatures. The results reveal that all the investigated models are successful in predicting indoor temperatures. Hence, the proposed deep neural network model obtained the highest accuracy with an average RMSE of 0.16 °C, which renders it the best candidate for the development of a digital twin. Diamond cutting-tool wear has a direct impact on the processing accuracy of the machined surface in ultra-precision diamond cutting. It is difficult to monitor the tool's condition because of the slight wear amount. This paper proposed a hybrid deep learning model for tool wear state prediction in ultra-precision diamond cutting. The cutting force was accurately estimated and the wear state of the diamond tool was predicted by using the hybrid deep learning model with the motion displacement, velocity, and other signals in the machining process. By carrying out machining experiments, this method can classify diamond-tool wear condition with an accuracy of more than 85%. Output-only structural health monitoring is a highly active research direction because it is a promising methodology for building digital twin applications providing near-real-time monitoring results of the structure. However, one of the technical bottlenecks is how to work effectively with multiple high-dimensional vibration signals. To address this question, this study develops a two-stage data-driven framework based on various advanced techniques, such as time-series feature extractions, self-learning, graph neural network, and machine learning algorithms. At first, multiple features in statistical, time, and spectral domains, are extracted from raw vibration data; then, they subsequently enter a graph convolution network to account for the spatial correlation of sensor locations. After that, the high-performance adaptive boosting machine learning algorithm is leveraged to assess structures' health states. This method allows for learning a lower-dimensional yet informative representation of vibration data; thus, the subsequent monitoring tasks could be performed with reduced time complexity and economical computational resources. The performance of the proposed method is qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrated through two examples involving both numerical and experimental structural data. As heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have become one of the most contributing systems in energy consumption in the world, the control of these large-scale systems remains a challenging duty due to the decoupling effects of control variables. Accordingly, the penetration of these types of systems in all-smart buildings has increased in recent years. Furthermore, the application of digital twin as a fast-growing concept is being developed. In HVAC systems, independent and accurate control of temperature and humidity of the indoor air has been playing an undeniable role in reducing energy consumption. In this paper, to have cost-effective energy management in a single-zone HVAC system, a new reliable digital twin proximal policy optimization (PPO)–based model-independent nonsingular terminal sliding-mode control (MINTSMC) methodology has been proposed. Moreover, due to the nonlinear characteristics of HVAC systems, MINTSMC tends to handle the un-modeled system dynamics and disturbances. For regulating parameters of proposed control, an efficient PPO algorithm has been developed due to its actor-critic-based reinforcement learning. Extensive examinations and comparative analyses with particle swarm optimization designed sliding-mode control and proportional–integral–derivative controller have been made using digital twin of the proposed controller to show the importance, accuracy, and application of this method in the comfort and energy management achievement of HVAC control systems. A digital signal processor computing device has been utilized for implementation by utilizing hardware-in-loop (HIL) in the concept of the digital twin. To determine the interface between established models, software-in-loop, and HIL, the Functional Mock-up Interface has been utilized. Railway track maintenance plays an important role in enabling safe, reliable, and seamless train operations and passenger comfort. Due to the increasing rail transportation, rolling stocks tend to run faster and the load tends to increase continuously. As a result, the track deteriorates quicker, and maintenance needs to be performed more frequently. However, more frequent maintenance activities do not guarantee a better overall performance of the railway system. It is crucial for rail infrastructure managers to optimize predictive and preventative maintenance. This study is the world's first to develop deep machine learning models using three-dimensional recurrent neural network-based co-simulation models to predict track geometry parameters in the next year. Different recurrent neural network-based techniques are used to develop predictive models. In addition, a building information modeling (BIM) model is developed to integrate and cross-functionally co-simulate the track geometry measurement with the prediction for predictive and preventative maintenance purposes. From the study, the developed BIM models can be used to exchange information for predictive maintenance. Machine learning models provide the average R2 of 0.95 and the average mean absolute error of 0.56 mm. The objective of this paper is to systematically review geospatial mapping and 3D virtual space networking tools, visual object tracking and deep learning algorithms, and cloud computing and cognitive artificial intelligence technologies. The findings and analyses highlight that extended reality environments require sensor fusion and 3D path planning algorithms, synthetic biometric data, and ontology-based semantic and 3D immersive virtual reality technologies. Throughout April 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including "the blockchain-based metaverse" + "context awareness and deep learning algorithms," "immersive visualization and autonomous cognitive systems," and "natural language processing and digital twin modeling tools." As research published in 2022 and 2023 was inspected, only 181 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. The analysis reveals a substantial increase in publication volume over time, peaking at 406 articles in 2022, signifying a heightened interest in AI implementation within the aviation sector. Key publication sources notably include conferences such as AIAA IEEE Digital Avionics Systems Conference Proceedings and ACM International Conference Proceeding Series. Leading contributions in publications emerge from countries such as the United States, China, India, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, reflecting global involvement in AI research within the aviation industry. Citation analysis identifies highly cited articles addressing topics such as Digital Twin (DT) optimization processes in aviation, AI application in aircraft navigation, and machine learning for weather forecasting. These findings underscore researchers' interest in fundamental topics such as aviation, aircraft-related artificial intelligence, flight delay, and deep learning. Furthermore, co-citation analysis delineates research clusters, illustrating thematic similarities within AI research in the aviation industry. Multivariate time series data from a real gold processing plant was acquired through the process instrumentation and control system and augmented with simulated data at 5-minute intervals over 236 days. Surrogate models based on LSTM, GRU and CNN architectures were developed and analysed for predicting the gold grade one to six steps ahead. Evaluation of the testing dataset indicates that the CNN exhibits superior performance, achieving an average error reduction of 36 %, 45 % and 35 % for the performance metrics RMSE, MAE and MAPE respectively compared to the baseline model. Irregular ocean waves contribute to random and non-linear hydrodynamic forces on marine and offshore platforms, in particular those made of slender bodies such as jack-ups. Keeping track of the structural fatigue, integrity, and reliability renders benefits to these platforms such as enabling predictive maintenance and risk-based decision support. While computational techniques are useful in providing insights to deepen our understanding of the physics involved, these are resource-intensive and not suited for predictive capabilities. Here we introduce an effective deep learning method based on Long Short Time Memory (LSTM) to predict unsteady hydrodynamic forces on jack-up legs, which are mainly governed by non-linear drag forces, as well as dynamic responses of the jack-up in terms of reaction forces and hull motion. The numerical OF-ABAQUS solver (one-way fluid-structure coupling) designed for jack-up by Li et al. (2022, 2023) is used to generate a database for the deep neural network, which takes in wave elevation time series as the input. A leaky non-linear rectification is used to trace the relationship between wave elevation (as the input) and hydrodynamic forces as well as structural responses (as the outputs). The LSTM model is trained using a stochastic gradient descent method, and the results are compared with the full-order numerical simulations. Once the hyper-parameters of the LSTM algorithm are identified, further tuning for each sea-state is not required. Instead, the same LSTM algorithm can be used for different sea-states. The predictions made with our LSTM model are real-time, 96,000 times faster than the full-order simulations, within a 6% error threshold, and use a negligible amount of central processing unit (CPU) power. This powerful tool can be used to obtain real-time predictions using computers on offshore platforms without high-performance computers inland. Health monitoring of structures using ultrasonic guided waves is an evolving technology with potential applications in monitoring pipelines, civil bridges, and aircraft components. However, the sensitivity of guided waves to external parameters affects the reliability of monitoring systems based on them. These influencing factors and experimental related factors cannot be perfectly modeled, which give rise to the discrepancy between numerical simulations and experimental measurements. Therefore, it is important to address this inevitable discrepancy and generate close-to-experiment simulations. In this work, we present a deep learning-based Digital Twin framework containing multi-fidelity modeling to reduce the discrepancy between measurements and simulations and a deep generative model to generate close-to-experiment guided wave responses by harnessing the vital characteristics of the two sources. These realistic simulations (close to experiment) can then be used in assessing the reliability of health monitoring system by generating probability of detection curves. Furthermore, they can also be used for augmenting the training data for a machine learning algorithm. We use a measurement dataset corresponding to crack propagation and simulations to validate the proposed framework. Intelligent digital twins closely resemble their real-life counterparts. In health and medical care, they enable the real-time monitoring of patients, whereby large amounts of data can be collected to produce actionable information. These powerful tools are constructed with the aid of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning; the Internet of Things; and cloud computing to collect a diverse range of digital data (e.g., from digital patient journals, wearable sensors, and digitized monitoring equipment or processes), which can provide information on the health conditions and therapeutic responses of their physical twins. Intelligent digital twins can enable data-driven clinical decision making and advance the realization of personalized care. Migraines are a highly prevalent and complex neurological disorder affecting people of all ages, genders, and geographical locations. It is ranked among the top disabling diseases, with substantial negative personal and societal impacts, but the current treatment strategies are suboptimal. Personalized care for migraines has been suggested to optimize their treatment. The implementation of intelligent digital twins for migraine care can theoretically be beneficial in supporting patient-centric care management. It is also expected that the implementation of intelligent digital twins will reduce costs in the long run and enhance treatment effectiveness. This study briefly reviews the concept of digital twins and the available literature on digital twins for health disorders such as neurological diseases. Based on these, the potential construction and utility of digital twins for migraines will then be presented. The potential and challenges when implementing intelligent digital twins for the future management of migraines are also discussed.

Physics-based models have been mainstream in fluid dynamics for developing predictive models. In recent years, machine learning has offered a renaissance to the fluid community due to the rapid developments in data science, processing units, neural network based technologies, and sensor adaptations. So far in many applications in fluid dynamics, machine learning approaches have been mostly focused on a standard process that requires centralizing the training data on a designated machine or in a data center. In this article, we present a federated machine learning approach that enables localized clients to collaboratively learn an aggregated and shared predictive model while keeping all the training data on each edge device. We demonstrate the feasibility and prospects of such a decentralized learning approach with an effort to forge a deep learning surrogate model for reconstructing spatiotemporal fields. The benefits of technologies related to the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), digital twins, and so on, can be fully realized when associated devices are positioned intuitively. However, AR systems hosted within smartphones pose challenges where auxiliary hardware and computational configurations associated with precise positioning are concerned. To this effect, we propose a deep learning-based indoor measurement system that can determine positions using images collected via beacons designed as IoT terminals. The proposed system is broadly divided into a detection unit, an extraction unit, a positioning unit, and a management server. The beacons were detected using deep learning algorithms, from which the postures were extracted using a homography matrix, and position of the imaging device was determined in reference to the beacon's position. With the unique design of our system, in that it simultaneously performs posture and positioning estimations, high immersive AR can be achieved. Moreover, scalability of the positioning space is also guaranteed as multiple beacons can be monitored at once. The findings and analyses highlight that spatial computing and data sharing technologies, virtual simulation algorithms, and visual analytics tools enable smart sustainable city governance. The digital twin system of nuclear reactors is the foundation for the intelligent operation and maintenance of reactors and the visualization of operational data. Because of the current problem of low computational accuracy and lack of interpretability of deep learning algorithms for complex physical fields, this paper designs a deep learning and numerical analysis fusion algorithm based on a time series convolutional neural network algorithm, which can be used to solve the neutron diffusion spatiotemporal kinetics equation. The algorithm is based on convolutional neural network architecture, using finite volume method, constructing fixed parameter convolution kernel, and reconstructing loss function to replace convolutional neural network structure. This algorithm retains the convolutional neural network's structure and ensures that all steps have clear physical meaning. Finally, the algorithm logic and GPU acceleration are implemented on the Pytorch platform, and the algorithm's feasibility is verified using the simplified Tsinghua High Flux Reactor(THFR). The results show that the relative errors between the time series convolutional neural network and OpenMC in calculating the neutron flux density and the fission reaction rate are approximately within the range of 1% to 5%. The calculation speed of the time series convolutional neural network for neutron flux density is 1/20 of OpenMC, and the calculation speed of the expansion matrix is 1/8 of the NumPy library. Therefore, the time series convolutional neural network not only ensures the accuracy of calculation and improves the speed of operation, but also ensures the interpretability of the algorithm. In addition to being used to solve the neutron diffusion spatiotemporal kinetics equation, this algorithm is mainly used to develop the virtual physics engine of the digital twin system. Large volumes of 3D parametric datasets, such as building information modeling (BIM), are the foundation for developing and applying smart city and digital twin technologies. Those datasets are also considered valuable tools for efficiently managing rebuilt structures during the operation and maintenance stages. Nevertheless, current approaches developed for the scan-to-BIM process rely on manual or semi-automatic procedures and insufficiently leverage semantic data in point clouds. These methods struggle to accurately represent large-scale indoor complex layouts and extract details from irregular-shaped unstructured elements, causing inefficiencies in BIM model generation. To address these issues, we propose an innovative scan-to-BIM framework based on deep learning algorithms and raw point cloud data, enabling the automatic generation of 3D models for both structured and unstructured indoor elements. Initially, we propose an enhanced deep learning neural network to improve the point clouds' semantic segmentation accuracy. Subsequently, an efficient workflow is developed to reconstruct 3D building models of structured indoor scenes. The proposed workflow can reconstruct large-scale data with multiple room layouts of Manhattan or non-Manhattan structures and reconstruct 3D models automatically by using a BIM parametric algorithm implemented in Revit software. Moreover, we introduce a robust method for unstructured elements to automatically generate corresponding 3D BIM models, even when the incorporating semantic information is incomplete. The proposed approach was evaluated on synthetic and real data for different scales and complexities of indoor scenes. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the improved model significantly enhances the overall semantic segmentation accuracy compared to the baseline models. The proposed scan-to-BIM framework is efficient for indoor element 3D reconstruction, achieving precision, recall, and F-score values ranging from 96% to 99%. In this paper, a novel method of using deep learning to construct a digital twin of the thermos-compression bonding blade's temperature field is presented. Usually, a heat transfer model based on numerical analysis can calculate the heat distribution in the welding process, but its complex modeling process and heavy computational effort are not appropriate for the deployment of the digital twin concept. The approach proposed in this paper is distinctive because it directly converts the collected process sensor data into the bonding blade's temperature field images and the bonding surface's temperature distribution curves for monitoring the welding process. This is achieved by training the generator and discriminator of the conditional depth convolutional generative adversarial network separately. The network is then capable of predicting the bonding blade's heat distribution within a certain range of welding parameters. Compared to methods based on numerical simulation, this approach is far more effective. Training and testing datasets were created to assess the suggested method's efficacy. Multi-scale structural similarity index, structural similarity index, peak signal-to-noise ratio, difference hash and mean absolute error were used to evaluate the simulations' quality. Engineering has many necessary fields, and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is one of the most important of them. Sometimes in industrial environments, it is difficult and even impossible to collect data containing different real damages. Therefore, the problem of data acquisition represents a primary challenge in designing damage detection systems. The application of digital twin methods based on simulated models and/or Machine Learning (ML) models is a practical way to solve this problem. In this approach, a digital twin is generated for a compromised structure, utilizing a physics-based model to analyze diverse damage scenarios. Subsequently, an ML model is trained using data extracted from the physics-based model, functioning as the digital twin. This research proposes a method based on a digital twin for detecting damages in structures. The data produced from a Floating Wind Turbine (FWT) model was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed digital twin-based method. For this purpose, the FWT structure was simulated using a numerical model to address the data collection problem in the face of various uncertainties, such as changing loading conditions. In line with the concept of digital twin and to reduce the computational time, a Deep Convolution Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network (DCLSTMNN) model was designed and trained only with the frequency data of various scenarios of the simulated FWT model under constant loads (deterministic loads, including constant wind speed and airy wave model) to learn the damage-sensitive features. Then, to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed model under different uncertainties, the DCLSTMNN model was evaluated using the frequency data of the simulated FWT model under variable loading conditions (including Kaimal wind model and JONSWAP wave theory). Some vibration response components unrelated to the nature of the FWT model were removed using the Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (CEEMD) method. Then, the reconstructed vibration responses were used to create the frequency data using the Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD) technique. Decoupling the physical world and providing standardized service interfaces is still challenging when developing Location Based Services (LBS). This lack also hinders the possibility of developing Intelligent services on top of LBS architectures. In this paper, we propose a multi-layer Digital Twin-based architecture that aims to enable the development of machine learning-based Intelligent LBS (I-LBS) that are able to adapt, evolve, and perform Continual Learning (CL). The platform uses Digital Twins to ensure physical abstraction and provide cyber–physical knowledge to the I-LBSs, which is defined as an execution graph of operation modules. Finally, we simulated a use-case for this platform in the complex scenario of Healthcare organization and management where the I-LBS classifies allowed/not allowed trajectories of users inside a real-existing hospital scenario depending on their role in the organization. The use case is implemented as a Deep Learning-based reconstruction task of high-resolution trajectories processed by the DT architecture that also deploys the I-LBS. This work proposes a new method for the detection, localization, and classification of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) array faults. Line-to-line, open-module, shorted-module, open-string, and shorted-string faults as well as partial shading conditions are studied. The proposed method has two stages, which are (1) detection and localization of faults and (2) classification of faults. In the first stage, detection and localization are performed using a digital twin (DT) by analyzing the current ratio of each PV array. The measured DC (direct current) power after the operation of the DC/DC boost converter in the physical object is firstly converted into a 2-dimensional image using a recurrence plot (RP) and is then inputted to the second stage. A deep learning-based shifted windows (swin) transformer optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used in the classification stage, eliminating the need for model tuning by trial-and-error. A PV system of ten arrays with 49 kW is studied. The coefficients of determination (R2) between the results of the digital object (digital twin) and the physical object for different scenarios demonstrate the accuracy and success of the digital twin. R2 values of 0.99988 for varying irradiation with constant temperature and 0.97923 for constant irradiation with varying temperature indicate strong correlations between the digital and physical objects, further confirming the applicability of the digital twin in PV fault detection. The comparative evaluation of the PSO-optimized swin transformer against classical machine learning algorithms and state-of-the-art convolutional neural networks reveals the superior performance of the proposed method. It achieves an outstanding classification accuracy of 98.55%, demonstrating its ability to effectively classify various types of PV faults. Digital twins (DTs) have attracted widespread attention in academia and industry in recent years. It can accurately reflect the physical world in real-time, enabling online monitoring, control, and prediction operations. Their foundation is super-real-time computing and high data representation capabilities. However, current DTs do not achieve 3D super-real-time computing. This study proposes a novel 3D computational method for solving fluid–solid coupling problems in a super-real-time. The method is based on a mixed solution framework that combines traditional numerical methods with deep learning operators. Specifically, the method employs multi-core CPU parallel acceleration to solve the solid equations while leveraging the computing power of GPU to solve the fluid equations. The fluid–solid coupling is achieved through information exchange between the GPU and the multi-core CPU. In addition, the proposed method introduces a new deep learning operator framework based on the DeepONET. The framework is accompanied by a database structure that facilitates model training and validation and a loss function that guides the training. The space nuclear reactor, an improved TOPAZ-II system, was selected to demonstrate its feasibility. Four non-training transient conditions were simulated to test the generalization performance. The results show that the proposed method achieves an average error between the calculated results and reference values below 2.5%, with the average error of thermodynamic parameters below 1.5%. The average deviation between system parameter peak values during the transient process and the reference value was less than 5 s. The result meets the acceptable error level and satisfies the super-real-time requirements with a time acceleration ratio of approximately 1.17, which is 60 times faster than traditional numerical methods. Preparing the infrastructure for analyzing, recognizing, and characterizing microorganisms in the Metaverse can transform the fields of biology, medicine, and drug discovery. Accordingly, the realization of digital twins of microorganisms, such as viruses, fungi, algae, bacteria, protozoa, archaea, and multicellular animal parasites, can streamline the applicability of the Metaverse and similar emerging technologies like Cyber-Physical Healthcare Systems (CPHS). This is why a new approach to the digital twinning of bacteria has been presented in this research. This method of digital twinning can revolutionize the research and study of bacteria because it allows us to separate useful and harmful bacterial species, increasing the efficiency of treatment noticeably. This innovative method can easily be used by clinics, medical centers, or even by private users physically and virtually and can be adapted to every centralized or decentralized Metaverse Platform. To determine the proper treatment, biologists have always tried to identify the correct bacterial species that prompted a bacterial infection. They use various indicators, such as the bacterial cell's shape and the size of the colony formed by the bacteria, to classify different types of bacteria with different biochemistries and shapes. However, it is challenging because of the extensive similarities between some species. For instance, such similarities exist between Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus saprophyticus, which has caused numerous false diagnostic reports by operators. Wrong species reports bring about treatment failure and increase antibiotic resistance issues. Therefore, the digital twins of bacteria cover all of their identifiable characteristics and overcome many limitations to study them. In this approach, DTL techniques, including MobileNetV2, EfficientNetV2-S, and ResNet-50, have been employed to build digital twins of bacteria species. A hybrid dataset was used for training and evaluation. Among the models, EfficientNetV2-S exhibited the best performance, with a validation accuracy of 99.58% and a test accuracy of 99.33%. The results showed the ability of deep learning models to make bacteria digital twins based on image processing from different labs, thus assisting experts in speeding up the process and reducing diagnostic errors. In addition, in the mispredicted cases, the correct species was among the first three choices of the model. High dimensional quantum entanglement based on orbital angular momentum (OAM) can provide infinite freedom theoretically, providing a significant improvement on the capacity of the quantum communication. However, the vortex beam that carries OAM signal can be easily distorted by atmospheric turbulence and can degrade the performance of the system. Consequently, for the operation, administration and maintenance of quantum system, an accurate digital twin model of the turbulent channel is necessary. Digital twin model is a mathematical model which can reflect the influence of atmospheric channel on quantum system by theoretical analysis. Nevertheless, it is challenging to achieve for the complex mechanism of atmospheric turbulence. To address this problem, deep learning (DL) techniques have been studied recently. Whereas, for the training of DL, a massive number of labeled samples are needed, i.e., the actual free-space channel, which are hard to be obtained in practical systems. The pool generalization also hinders the use of these DL-based algorithms in practice. To overcome the above challenges, we propose a self-supervised DL algorithm, which does not need any labeled samples in advance, meaning the training of the algorithm can be restarted any time once the environment changes. Compared with previous studies, the proposed algorithm can better suite as the digital twin of the turbulent channel.
