In this paper, we propose an accelerated proximal point algorithm for the difference of convex (DC) optimization problem by combining the extrapolation technique with the proximal difference of convex algorithm. By making full use of the special structure of DC decomposition and the information of stepsize, we prove that the proposed algorithm converges at rate of O 1 / k 2 under milder conditions. The given numerical experiments show the superiority of the proposed algorithm to some existing algorithms.

In this paper, we develop a parameterized proximal point algorithm (P-PPA) for solving a class of separable convex programming problems subject to linear and convex constraints. The proposed algorithm is provable to be globally convergent with a worst-case O(1/t) convergence rate, wheret denotes the iteration number. By properly choosing the algorithm parameters, numerical experiments on solving a sparse optimization problem arising from statistical learning show that our P-PPA could perform significantly better than other state-of-the-art methods, such as the alternating direction method of multipliers and the relaxed proximal point algorithm.

We introduce an iterative process which converges strongly to a zero of a finite sum of monotone mappings under certain conditions. Applications to a convex minimization problem are included. Our theorems improve and unify most of the results that have been proved in this direction for this important class of nonlinear mappings.

In this article we study the hybrid extragradient method coupled with approximation and penalty schemes for convex minimization problems. Under certain hypotheses, which include, for example, the case of Tikhonov regularization, we prove asymptotic convergence of the method to the solution set of our minimization problem. When we use schemes of penalization or barrier, we can show asymptotic convergence using the well-known fast/slow parameterization techniques and exploiting the existence and finite length of an optimal path.

We present an efficient method for solving linearly constrained convex programming. Our algorithmic framework employs an implementable proximal step by a slight relaxation to the subproblem of proximal point algorithm (PPA). In particular, the stepsize choice condition of our algorithm is weaker than some elegant PPA-type methods. This condition is flexible and effective. Self-adaptive strategies are proposed to improve the convergence in practice. We theoretically show under mild conditions that our method converges in a global sense. Finally, we discuss applications and perform numerical experiments which confirm the efficiency of the proposed method. Comparisons of our method with some state-of-the-art algorithms are also provided.

The problems studied are the separable variational inequalities with linearly coupling constraints. Some existing decomposition methods are very problem specific, and the computation load is quite costly. Combining the ideas of proximal point algorithm (PPA) and augmented Lagrangian method (ALM), we propose an asymmetric proximal decomposition method (AsPDM) to solve a wide variety separable problems. By adding an auxiliary quadratic term to the general Lagrangian function, our method can take advantage of the separable feature. We also present an inexact version of AsPDM to reduce the computation load of each iteration. In the computation process, the inexact version only uses the function values. Moreover, the inexact criterion and the step size can be implemented in parallel. The convergence of the proposed method is proved, and numerical experiments are employed to show the advantage of AsPDM.

This paper presents and analyzes a strongly convergent approximate proximal point algorithm for finding zeros of maximal monotone operators in Hilbert spaces. The proposed method combines the proximal subproblem with a more general correction step which takes advantage of more information on the existing iterations. As applications, convex programming problems and generalized variational inequalities are considered. Some preliminary computational results are reported.

We propose a proximal Newton method for solving nondifferentiable convex optimization. This method combines the generalized Newton method with Rockafellar's proximal point algorithm. At each step, the proximal point is found approximately and the regularization matrix is preconditioned to overcome inexactness of this approximation. We show that such a preconditioning is possible within some accuracy and the second-order differentiability properties of the Moreau-Yosida regularization are invariant with respect to this preconditioning. Based upon these, superlinear convergence is established under a semismoothness condition..
