Background and aims: Studies on cancer incidence and mortality among people with opioid use‐related disorders are lacking. We aimed to measure cancer‐specific incidence, mortality and survival among people diagnosed with opioid use‐related disorders in Norway during 2010–18. Design and setting: This was a cohort study conducted in Norway during 2010–18. Participants: Individuals (n = 20 710) diagnosed with opioid use‐related disorders. Measurements: We conducted a cohort study utilizing a data‐linkage of national health and population registers. Information on opioid use‐related disorders was extracted from specialized healthcare, malignancies from the Cancer Registry of Norway and deaths from Cause of Death Registry. Cancer incidence and mortality were compared with the general population by calculating sex‐specific age‐standardized incidence (SIR) and mortality (SMR) ratios. One‐year survival rates were computed. Findings Compared with the general population, people with opioid use‐related disorders were at an increased risk of developing cancer overall [SIR = 1.2, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.1–1.3] with a higher than twofold cancer mortality rate (SMR = 2.3, 95% CI = 2.0–2.7). Excess risk was observed for liver (12.6, 95% CI = 9.1–17.0), larynx (4.7, 95% CI = 1.7–10.2), lung (3.5, 95% CI = 2.8–4.3) and pancreas cancer (2.6, 95% CI = 1.6–4.0), whereas reduced risk was found for melanoma (0.5, 95% CI = 0.3–0.9), breast (0.6, 95% CI = 0.4–0.9) and prostate cancers (0.3, 95% CI = 0.1–0.4). Site‐specific SMRs were significantly elevated for liver (12.3, 95% CI = 8.5–17.2), lung (3.9, 95% CI = 3.0–5.0), pancreas (3.0, 95% CI = 1.7–4.8) and colon cancers (1.9, 95% CI = 1.1–3.1). The average 1‐year survival rate after a cancer diagnosis was low in liver, pancreas and colon cancer, ranging from 10 to 15% less than that of the general population. Simple Summary: Socioeconomic inequalities in cancer incidence and mortality have been studied extensively, but there has been no investigation of the spatial distribution of incidence and mortality within a country to see if they are consistent with each other and with deprivation. To fill this gap, we examined the spatial distribution of cancer incidence and mortality and their association with each other and with socioeconomic deprivation at the municipal level in Hungary, one of the countries with the most unfavourable cancer burden in the world. For different types of cancer, while mortality always showed positive associations with deprivation, there was only partial overlap between areas of high incidence and mortality across the country, with clusters often independent of deprivation. Even where incidence and mortality overlapped geographically, there were often significant differences in mortality risk. Discrepancies in the spatial distribution of cancer incidence and mortality are indicators of an unmet need for cancer prevention and/or treatment. There is a rich body of literature on the distribution of cancer incidence and mortality in socioeconomically different world regions, but none of the studies has compared the spatial distribution of mortality and incidence to see if they are consistent with each other. All malignant neoplasms combined and cervical, colorectal, breast, pancreatic, lung, and oral cancers separately were studied in the Hungarian population aged 25–64 years for 2007–2018 at the municipality level by sex. In each case, the spatial distribution of incidence and mortality were compared with each other and with the level of deprivation using disease mapping, spatial regression, risk analysis, and spatial scan statistics. A positive association between deprivation and mortality was found for each type of cancer, but there was no significant association for male colorectal cancer (relative risk (RR) 1.00; 95% credible interval (CI) 0.99–1.02), pancreatic cancer (RR: 1.01; 95%CI 0.98–1.04), and female colorectal cancer incidence (RR: 1.01; 95%CI 0.99–1.03), whereas a negative association for breast cancer (RR: 0.98; 95%CI 0.96–0.99) was found. Disease mapping analyses showed only partial overlap between areas of high incidence and mortality, often independent of deprivation. Our results highlight not only the diverse relationship between cancer burden and deprivation, but also the inconsistent relationship between cancer incidence and mortality, pointing to areas with populations that require special public health attention. Purpose: Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, and the disease burden is elevated in Appalachian Kentucky, due in part to health behaviors and inequities in social determinants of health. This study's goal was to evaluate Appalachian Kentucky's cancer burden compared to non‐Appalachian Kentucky, and Kentucky compared to the United States (excluding Kentucky). Methods: The following data were analyzed: annual all‐cause and all‐site cancer mortality rates from 1968 to 2018; 5‐year all‐site and site‐specific cancer incidence and mortality rates from 2014 to 2018; aggregated screening and risk factor data from 2016 to 2018 for the United States (excluding Kentucky), Kentucky, non‐Appalachian Kentucky, and Appalachian Kentucky; and human papilloma virus vaccination prevalence by sex from 2018 for the United States and Kentucky. Findings: Since 1968, the United States has experienced a large decrease in all‐cause and cancer mortality, but the reduction in Kentucky has been smaller and slower, driven by even smaller and slower reductions within Appalachian Kentucky. Appalachian Kentucky has higher overall cancer incidence and mortality rates and higher rates for several site‐specific cancers compared to non‐Appalachian Kentucky. Contributing factors include screening rate disparities and increased rates of obesity and smoking. Conclusions: Appalachian Kentucky has experienced persistent cancer disparities, including elevated all‐cause and cancer mortality rates for 50+ years, widening the gap between this region and the rest of the country. In addition to addressing social determinants of health, increased efforts aimed at improving health behaviors and increased access to health care resources could help reduce this disparity. Background: Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1), a dual-function glycoprotein, has been reported to play a crucial role in inflammation and tumor progression. We conducted a community-based cohort study to investigate whether serum VAP-1 could be a potential biomarker for predicting incident cancers and mortality. Method: From 2006 to 2018, we enrolled 889 cancer-free subjects at baseline. Serum VAP-1 levels were measured using a time-resolved immunofluorometric assay. Cancer and vital status of the participants were obtained by linking records with the computerized cancer registry and death certificates in Taiwan. Results: During a median follow-up of 11.94 years, 69 subjects developed incident cancers and 66 subjects died, including 29 subjects who died from malignancy. Subjects in the highest tertile of serum VAP-1 had a significantly higher risk of cancer incidence (p=0.0006), cancer mortality (p=0.0001), and all- cause mortality (p=0.0002) than subjects in the other tertiles. The adjusted hazard ratios per one standard deviation increase in serumVAP-1 concentrations were 1.28 for cancer incidence (95% CI=1.01-1.62), 1.60 for cancer mortality (95% CI=1.14-2.23), and 1.38 for all-cause mortality (95% CI=1.09-1.75). The predictive performance of serum VAP-1 was better than that of gender, smoking, body mass index, hypertension, diabetes, and estimated glomerular filtration rate but lower than that of age for cancer incidence, cancer mortality, and all-cause mortality, as evidenced by higher increments in concordance statistics and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is believed to be associated with an increased risk for cancer, especially urinary tract cancer. However, previous studies predominantly focused on the association of decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with cancer. In this study, we investigated the association of albuminuria with cancer incidence, adjusted for eGFR. Methods We included 8490 subjects in the Prevention of Renal and Vascular End-stage Disease (PREVEND) observational study. Urinary albumin excretion (UAE) was measured in two 24-hour urine specimens at baseline. Primary outcomes were the incidence of overall and urinary tract cancer. Secondary outcomes were the incidence of other site-specific cancers, and mortality due to overall, urinary tract, and other site-specific cancers. Results Median baseline UAE was 9.4 (IQR, 6.3–17.8) mg/24 h. During a median follow-up of 17.7 years, 1341 subjects developed cancer (of which 177 were urinary tract cancers). After multivariable adjustment including eGFR, every doubling of UAE was associated with a 6% (hazard ratios (HR), 1.06, 95% confidence intervals (CI), 1.02–1.10), and 14% (HR, 1.14, 95% CI, 1.04–1.24) higher risk of overall and urinary tract cancer incidence, respectively. Except for lung and hematological cancer, no associations were found between UAE and the incidence of other site-specific cancer. Doubling of UAE was also associated with a higher risk of mortality due to overall and lung cancer. Conclusions Higher albuminuria is associated with a higher incidence of overall, urinary tract, lung, and hematological cancer, and with a higher risk of mortality due to overall and lung cancers, independent of baseline eGFR. The impact of cancer in Alberta is expected to grow considerably, largely driven by population growth and aging. The Future of Cancer Impact (FOCI) initiative offers an overview of the present state of cancer care in Alberta and highlights potential opportunities for research and innovation across the continuum. In this paper, we present a series of detailed projections and analyses regarding cancer epidemiological estimates in Alberta, Canada. Data on cancer incidence and mortality in Alberta (1998–2018) and limited-duration cancer prevalence in Alberta (2000–2019) were collected from the Alberta Cancer Registry. We used the Canproj package in the R software to project these epidemiological estimates up to the year 2040. To estimate the direct management costs, we ran a series of microsimulations using the OncoSim All Cancers Model. Our findings indicate that from 2020, the total number of annual new cancer cases and cancer-related deaths are projected to increase by 56% and 49% by 2040, respectively. From 2019, the five-year prevalence of all cancers in Alberta is projected to increase by 86% by 2040. In line with these trends, the overall direct cost of cancer management is estimated to increase by 53% in 2040. Background: Different ages for diagnosis of diabetes have diverse effects on risks of cardiovascular disease, dementia, and mortality, but there is little evidence of cancer. This study investigated the relationship between diabetes at different diagnostic ages and risks of cancer incidence and mortality in people aged 37--73 years. Methods: Participants with diabetes in the UK Biobank prospective cohort were divided into four groups: ≤40, 41--50, 51--60, and >60 years according to age at diagnosis. A total of 26,318 diabetics and 105,272 controls (1:4 randomly selected for each diabetic matched by the same baseline age) were included. We calculated the incidence density, standardized incidence, and mortality rates of cancer. Cox proportional hazard model was used to examine the associations of diabetes at different diagnostic ages with cancer incidence and mortality, followed by subgroup analyses. Results: Compared to corresponding controls, standardized incidence and mortality rates of overall and digestive system cancers were higher in diabetes diagnosed at age 41--50, 51--60, and >60 years, especially at 51--60 years. Individuals diagnosed with diabetes at different ages were at higher risk to develop site-specific cancers, with a prominently increased risk of liver cancer since the diagnosis age of >40 years. Significantly, participants with diabetes diagnosed at 51--60 years were correlated with various site-specific cancer risks [hazard ratio (HR) for incidence: 1.088--2.416, HR for mortality: 1.276--3.269]. Moreover, for mortality of digestive system cancers, we observed an interaction effect between smoking and diabetes diagnosed at 51--60 years. Conclusion: Our findings highlighted that the age at diagnosis of diabetes, especially 51--60 years, was critical risks of cancer incidence and mortality and may represent a potential preventative window for cancer. Objectives: Studies on cancer incidence and mortality in patients with schizophrenia have reported inconsistent findings. In this study, we simultaneously investigated cancer incidence and mortality in patients with schizophrenia and evaluated the cancer mortality‐to‐incidence ratio (MIR), which is rare in the literature. Methods: From the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database, we collected the data of 107,489 patients who received a diagnosis of schizophrenia between 2000 and 2019. Data regarding cancer incidence and mortality were obtained from the Taiwan Cancer Registry and National Mortality Database, respectively. In total, 3881 incident cancer cases and 2288 cancer mortality cases were identified. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs), mortality rate ratios (MRRs), and MIRs were compared between patients with schizophrenia and the general population. Results: The overall rate of cancer incidence was slightly lower (SIR: 0.95; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.92–0.98; p < 0.001) and that of cancer mortality was higher (MRR: 1.29; 95% CI: 1.23–1.3; p < 0.001) in patients with schizophrenia than in the general population. The MIR for overall cancer was significantly higher in the patients with schizophrenia. The relative MIR (MIR of patients with schizophrenia divided by that of the general population) was 1.36 (95% CI: 1.30–1.42). Conclusion: The MIR was significantly higher in the patients with schizophrenia than in the general population, indicating the possible presence of healthcare disparities. Cervical, liver and stomach cancers are the most common infection-associated malignancies and the leading cause of morbidity in non-Western regions. We compared the incidence and mortality of these cancers between non-Western immigrant and non-immigrant Nordic female populations. We also analysed the effect of age at immigration, duration of residence and education on cancer burden. Study population consisted of women residents in Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway in 1973–2020. Non-Western women contributed 3.1% of the total 260 million person-years at risk. All women were followed from their 20th birthday, or from the date of immigration if after, until the date of their first primary cancer diagnosis, death, emigration, or the end of the country-specific study period. All data were adjusted for 10-year age groups and calendar periods, and immigrant data was further broken down by region of birth, age at immigration and education level. Country-specific estimates were produced by multivariable Poisson regression and pooled in Finland with a random effects model. Altogether, there were 60 982 cases of cervical, liver and stomach cancer in the study population, causing 36 582 deaths. The immigrant women had significantly higher liver (rate ratio [RR] 1.78, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.03–3.06) and stomach cancer incidence (RR 1.68, CI 1.29–2.18), and stomach cancer mortality (RR 1.49, CI 1.17–1.92) than non-immigrant women. In the immigrant population, high education was related to lower incidence and mortality of studied cancers. The rate ratio of cervical cancer decreased with duration of residence and increased with rising age at immigration. Due to the increased incidence and mortality of infection-related cancers and changes in cancer patterns by age at immigration and duration of residence, attention should be paid to targeted health care services for immigrants. Establishing the production of radiopharmaceuticals and introducing new radiopharmaceuticals into healthcare practice in a developing country is challenging, primarily from an economic point of view. A feasibility study provides an objective assessment that takes into account not only the economic aspect but also the clinical impact and development of research potential. The first phase of the feasibility study for the establishment of copper-64 radioisotope production is a preliminary analysis, which aims to assess whether the introduction of 64Curadiopharmaceuticals into clinical use is possible and justified. The preliminary analysis includes a review of statistical data on malignant diseases on a national level based on reference databases, international and domestic, and a review of data on the clinical application of 64Cu-radiopharmaceuticals based on a reference database for clinical trials. As to the cancer statistics review, for a more objective insight into assessing the justification for introducing new radiopharmaceuticals into clinical use, data on malignancies in North Macedonia were compared with data related to the world, southern Europe and the European Union. The comparison focused on data relating to lung, cervical, and brain neoplasms as cancers examined in clinical trials involving [64Cu][Cu(ATSM)] radiopharmaceutical, one of the most widely explored 64Cu-radiopharmaceuticals. As can be seen from the comparison, cervical cancer has a lower incidence and mortality in Macedonia than in the world but a higher incidence and mortality compared to southern Europe and the countries of the European Union. Lung and brain cancers have a higher incidence and mortality in Macedonia than in all other compared regions. The results of the cancer statistic review indicate that it is rational to adopt strategies which can contribute to better management of malignant diseases in Macedonia. One of those potential strategies could be introducing new radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine practice. As for solid malignant tumors, the detection of tumor hypoxia is of particular importance to optimize the treatment strategy and improve the overall prognosis. Positron emission tomography with hypoxia-avid radiopharmaceutical is a noninvasive method for measuring hypoxia, highly sensitive and directly quantitative. Considering the results of the preliminary analysis, it is reasonable to proceed to the next stages of the feasibility study for the establishment of the production of 64Cu radioisotope and the implementation of 64Curadiopharmaceuticals in clinical practice in Macedonia. Radiopharmaceuticals based on copper-64 radioisotope are promising due to the unique properties of this radionuclide that are complementary for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes. Background: Cancer risk varies geographically, and migrants are influenced by different risk factors before, during and after migration. Increased migration from non-Western countries to the Nordic countries calls for a better understanding of the migrants' cancer risk and the change in risk patterns over time. The aim of this study was to compare the incidence and mortality of breast, colorectal and lung cancer between non-Western immigrant and the native female population in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway. Material and methods: Data from national registries were processed and pre-analysed in each country. Multivariate Poisson regression models were used to model the relative differences in incidence and mortality as rate ratios (RR). The country-specific estimates and summary statistics were pooled together using a random effects model. Results: Non-Western immigrant women had significantly lower breast (RR 0.71, 0.65–0.78), colorectal (RR 0.72, 0.57–0.92) and lung (RR 0.55, 0.42–0.72) cancer incidence rates than native women, and the risk of these cancers among immigrant women increased with duration of residence. Differences were parallel in breast, colorectal and lung cancer mortality (RR 0.64, 0.55–0.74; RR 0.66, 0.48–0.92; RR 0.51, 0.34–0.79). Among immigrant women, higher education increased the risk for breast cancer and decreased it for lung cancer. Conclusion: The results significantly complement and add to the previous findings of cancer burden and cancer burden transition among migrants and provide evidence of a prolonged cancer risk advantage among non-Western immigrant women. However, the findings show an increasing risk of lifestyle-related cancers with increasing duration of residence in the host country. Purpose: Cancer is a leading cause of death in the Caribbean, and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is no exception. Evidence suggests that cancer incidence and mortality may vary based on demographic factors across the different cancer types. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and mortality trends associated with cancer cases in Trinidad and Tobago for the period 2008–2018, across different age groups, gender, and ethnicity. Methods: Data on 15,029 incident cancer cases were reported to the Dr. Elizabeth Quamina Cancer Registry between 2008 and 2018. The retrospective data were analyzed by sex, ancestry, and age, and were reported using Trinidad and Tobago population statistics for the period 2008–2018. Results: The incidence of prostate and breast cancers was high among males and females, respectively. Among males, the highest cancer mortality was associated with prostate, lung, colon, blood, and pancreatic cancers, respectively. Among females, the highest cancer mortality was associated with breast, ovary, colon, blood, and pancreatic cancers. The frequency of occurrence of the top five cancer sites was the highest among Afro-Trinidadians followed by Indo-Trinidadians. Most females diagnosed with breast cancer were at a localized stage, while most males diagnosed with breast cancer were at a distant or regional stage. Most individuals diagnosed with blood cancer were at a distant stage. For lung and colon cancer, the stage of diagnosis for most males and females was either distant or unknown. Majority of males are diagnosed with prostate cancer at an unknown stage. Conclusions: The findings indicate highest cancer incidence and mortality occur among Afro-Trinidadians. Background: Firefighting is a hazardous occupation that is associated with an increased risk of select cancers. The number of studies has grown in recent years allowing for a synthesis of findings. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, multiple electronic databases were searched to identify studies on firefighter cancer risk and mortality. We computed pooled standardized incidence risk (SIRE) and standardized mortality estimates (SMRE), tested for publication bias, and conducted moderator analyses. Results: Thirty-eight studies published between 1978 and March 2022 were included for final meta-analysis. Overall, cancer incidence and mortality were significantly lower for firefighters (SIRE = 0.93; 95% CI: 0.91-0.95; SMRE = 0.93; 95% CI: 0.92 - 0.95) compared to the general population. Incident cancer risks were significantly higher for skin melanoma (SIRE = 1.14; 95% CI:1.08 - 1.21), other skin cancers (SIRE = 1.24; 95% CI:1.16-1.32), and prostate cancer (SIRE = 1.09; 95% CI: 1.04-1.14). Firefighters showed higher mortality for rectum (SMRE = 1.18; 95% CI: 1.02-1.36), testis (SMRE = 1.64; 95% CI: 1.00-2.67), and non Hodgkin lymphoma (SMRE = 1.20; 95% CI: 1.02-1.40). There was evidence of publication bias for SIRE and SMRE estimates. Some moderators explained variations in study effects, including study quality scores. Conclusion: Firefighters are at higher risk for several cancers; to the extent that some (e.g., melanoma and prostate) are screening amenable, more study into firefighter-specific recommendations for cancer surveillance is needed. Moreover, longitudinal studies with more detailed data on the specific length and types of exposures are necessary, as well as on unstudied subtypes of cancers (e.g., subtypes of brain cancer and leukemias) are needed. Aim: To estimate the risk of cancer incidence and mortality among patients with alcoholic liver disease in South Korea. Methods: A matched cohort study was conducted, including 1,042,185 men (alcoholic liver disease cases: 208,437; controls: 833,748) and 100,400 women (alcoholic liver disease cases: 20,080; controls: 80,320), matched for sex, age, smoking, alcohol consumption, and body mass index at a 1:4 ratio. The risk of cancer incidence and mortality in the alcoholic liver disease group was assessed using Cox proportional hazards regression models. Results: Both men and women with alcoholic liver disease had an elevated risk of all‐cancer and liver cancer incidence and mortality in comparison with the control group. In men, alcoholic liver disease was associated with a significantly higher risk of development of 10 cancer types, including lip, oral cavity, and pharynx; esophagus; liver; gallbladder and biliary tract; pancreas; larynx; lung; kidney; thyroid gland; and leukemia. Subgroup analysis by hepatitis B and C infection showed increased hazard ratios of all cancer incidences and mortality in the alcoholic liver disease group, regardless of hepatitis B or C infection status. In both sexes, a higher number and more years of hospital or clinic visits for alcoholic liver disease were associated with an increased risk of incidence and mortality from all cancers and liver cancer. A more profound dose–response relationship between alcoholic liver disease and alcohol consumption was observed in women than in men. Intensive epigenome and transcriptome analyses have unveiled numerous biological mechanisms, including the regulation of cell differentiation, proliferation, and induced apoptosis in neoplastic cells, as well as the modulation of the antineoplastic action of the immune system, which plausibly explains the observed population-based relationship between low vitamin D status and increased cancer risk. However, large randomized clinical trials involving cholecalciferol supplementation have so far failed to show the potential of such interventions in cancer prevention. In this article, we attempt to reconcile the supposed contradiction of these findings by undertaking a thorough review of the literature, including an assessment of the limitations in the design, conduct, and analysis of the studies conducted thus far. We examine the long-standing dilemma of whether the beneficial effects of vitamin D levels increase significantly above a critical threshold or if the conjecture is valid that an increase in available cholecalciferol translates directly into an increase in calcitriol activity. In addition, we try to shed light on the high interindividual epigenetic and transcriptomic variability in response to cholecalciferol supplementation. Moreover, we critically review the standards of interpretation of the available study results and propose criteria that could allow us to reach sound conclusions in this field. Finally, we advocate for options tailored to individual vitamin D needs, combined with a comprehensive intervention that favors prevention through a healthy environment and responsible health behaviors. Sleep duration is emerging as an important modifiable risk factor for morbidity and mortality. We assessed the association between sleep duration and cancer incidence and mortality among Japanese adults using data from six population‐based cohorts with 271 694 participants. During a total follow‐up period of about 5.9 million person‐years, we identified 40 751 incident cancer cases and 18 323 cancer deaths. We computed study‐specific hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using Cox proportional hazards regression models and pooled the estimates using random‐effects meta‐analysis. Sleep duration of ≥10 hours (vs 7 hours) was associated with increased risk of cancer incidence among women (HR 1.19, 95% CI 1.02‐1.38), but not men, and increased risk of cancer mortality among men (HR 1.18, 95% CI 1.00‐1.39) and women (HR 1.44, 95% CI 1.20‐1.73). Sleep duration of ≤5 hours (vs 7 hours) was not associated with cancer incidence and mortality. However, among postmenopausal women, sleep durations of both ≤5 and ≥10 hours (vs 7 hours) were associated with an increased risk of cancer mortality. Simple Summary: It has been questioned whether vitamin D supplements can reduce the mortality and incidence of tumors. In this systematic review and meta-analysis of 12 randomized controlled trials with a total of 72,669 participants, vitamin D supplementation could not reduce the cancer mortality or cancer incidence. Our results suggest a reconsideration of the previous view that vitamin D supplementation could reduce overall cancer mortality is needed. Methods: Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from their inception until 28 June 2022, for randomized controlled trials investigating vitamin D supplementation. Pooled relative risks (RRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated. Trials with vitamin D supplementation combined with calcium supplementation versus placebo alone and recruiting participants with cancer at baseline were excluded in the present study. Results: This study included 12 trials with a total of 72,669 participants. Vitamin D supplementation did not reduce overall cancer mortality (RR 0.96, 95% CI 0.80–1.16). However, vitamin D supplementation was associated with a reduction in lung cancer mortality (RR 0.63, 95% CI 0.45–0.90). Conclusions: Vitamin D supplementation could not reduce cancer mortality in this highly purified meta-analysis. Background: At present, "Belt and Road" ("B&R") member states (accounting for about 61.78% of the world's population) face different types of cancer threats to varying degrees. We analyzed the incidence and mortality and risk factors of cancer in the member countries of the "B&R" to explore the basis of health and medical cooperation between countries and provide a foundation for formulating cancer prevention and control policies for building a healthy "B&R."Methods: Data were derived from the Global Cancer Observatory and Cancer Country Profiles in 2020. Incidence and mortality were age-standardized rates (ASRs). Population attributable fractions (PAFs) was applied to measure risk factors of cancers in the "B&R" countries. The mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) was calculated by dividing the mortality rate by the incidence rate.Results: A total of 26 cancers were included in the study. Lung, breast, colorectal, stomach, liver, prostate, cervical, esophageal, thyroid, and uterine cancers were the most common and highest in age-standardized mortality in the "B&R" countries. For men, Hungary had the highest cancer age-standardized incidence and mortality (ASR, 289.3 per 100,000 and ASR, 235.7 per 100,000, respectively), followed by Latvia (ASR, 288.6 per 100,000 and ASR, 196.5 per 100,000, respectively). In females, the highest incidence rates were estimated in Greece (ASR, 238.7 per 100,000), and the highest mortality rate was Brunei (ASR, 192.3 per 100,000). All countries were in the middle or high HDI range, with about half (46.88%) of countries achieving high HDI, mostly in Central and Eastern Europe (13 countries) and West Asia (10 countries). The United Arab Emirates had the highest MIR in male and female (1.59 vs 2.19). Tobacco products, infectious factors, and ultraviolet rays were the three main cancer risk factors in the "B&R" countries.Conclusion: The overall burden of cancer in the countries along the "B&R" remains substantial, while the corresponding cancer prevention and control policies need to be improved. Background: There is extensive interest in understanding how neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES) may affect cancer incidence or survival. However, variability regarding items included and approaches used to form a composite nSES index presents challenges in summarizing overall associations with cancer. Given recent calls for standardized measures of neighborhood sociodemographic effects in cancer disparity research, the objective of this systematic review was to identify and compare existing nSES indices studied across the cancer continuum (incidence, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survival/mortality) and summarize associations by race/ethnicity and cancer site to inform future cancer disparity studies. Methods: Using PRISMA guidelines, peer‐reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2019 containing keywords related to nSES and cancer were identified in PubMed. Results: Twenty‐four nSES indices were identified from 75 studies. In general, findings indicated a significant association between nSES and cancer outcomes (n = 64/75 studies; 85.33%), with 42/64 (65.63%) adjusting for highly‐correlated individual SES factors (e.g., education). However, the direction of association differed by cancer site, race/ethnicity, and nSES index. Conclusions: This review highlights several methodologic and conceptual issues surrounding nSES measurement and potential associations with cancer disparities. Recommendations pertaining to the selection of nSES measures are provided, which may help inform disparity‐related disease processes and improve the identification of vulnerable populations in need of intervention. Using patient-specific data, the present study aimed to identify organ and effective dose to estimate the lifetime attributable risks (LARs) of cancer incidence and mortality associated with routine CT procedures. A cross-sectional investigation was conducted on 515 patients who underwent CT scan. The effective dose was computed using two methods: first, the ImPACT software and relevant conversion factors. Second, the effective dose was determined using the scanner-derived DLP and AAPM TG 23's conversion factor. Using the biological effects of ionizing radiation (BEIR VII) report, LAR of cancer incidence and mortality were computed. The greatest mean organ doses for abdomen-pelvis, routine chest, chest HRCT, brain, and sinus examinations were 20.64 ± 3.27 mGy (kidneys), 21.55 ± 5.47 mGy (thymus and esophagus), 10.51 ± 1.31 mGy (thymus and esophagus), 22.72 ± 3.01 mGy (lens), and 18.56 ± 1.25 mGy (lens) respectively. Using ImPACT dosimetry software, the mean effective dose for routine chest, abdomen-pelvis, HRCT chest, brain, and sinus examinations was 8.46 mSv, 10.13 mSv, 4.19 mSv, 1 mSv, and 0.68 mSv, respectively. Using the DLP to effective dose conversion factor, the mean effective dose was lower. The mean cancer incidence risks per 100,000 people were 63.33, 54.98, 27.82, 6.31, and 5.22 for abdomen-pelvis, routine chest, HRCT, brain, and sinus examinations, respectively. The mean LAR of cancer mortality for all cancer was 38.22, 33.17, 16.72, 3.87, 2.93 for abdomen-pelvis, routine chest, HRCT, brain, and sinus examinations, respectively, per 100,000 people. In the present study, radiation doses and cancer risks resulting from abdominopelvic radiotherapy planning computed tomography (RP-CT) and abdominopelvic diagnostic CT (DG-CT) examinations are compared. Two groups of patients who underwent abdominopelvic CT scans with RP-CT (n = 50) and DG-CT (n = 50) voluntarily participated in this study. The two groups of patients had approximately similar demographic features including mass, height, body mass index, sex, and age. Radiation dose parameters included CTDIvol, dose–length product, scan length, effective tube current, and pitch factor, all taken from the CT scanner console. The ImPACT software was used to calculate the patient-specific radiation doses. The risks of cancer incidence and mortality were estimated based on the BEIR VII report of the US National Research Council. In the RP-CT group, the mean ± standard deviation of cancer incidence risk for all cancers, leukemia, and all solid cancers was 621.58 ± 214.76, 101.59 ± 27.15, and 516.60 ± 189.01 cancers per 100,000 individuals, respectively, for male patients. For female patients, the corresponding risks were 742.71 ± 292.35, 74.26 ± 20.26, and 667.03 ± 275.67 cancers per 100,000 individuals, respectively. In contrast, for DG-CT cancer incidence risks were 470.22 ± 170.07, 78.23 ± 18.22, and 390.25 ± 152.82 cancers per 100,000 individuals for male patients, while they were 638.65 ± 232.93, 62.14 ± 13.74, and 575.73 ± 221.21 cancers per 100,000 individuals for female patients. Cancer incidence and mortality risks were greater for RP-CT than for DG-CT scans. It is concluded that the various protocols of abdominopelvic CT scans, especially the RP-CT scans, should be optimized with respect to the radiation doses associated with these scans. Tobacco smoke is a known carcinogen, but the magnitude of smoking‐related cancer risk depends on country‐specific, generational smoking patterns. We quantified cancer risk in relation to smoking in a population‐based cohort, the 45 and Up Study (2006‐2009) in New South Wales, Australia. Cox proportional hazards regressions estimated adjusted hazard ratios (HR) by self‐reported smoking history at baseline (2006‐2009) for incident, primary cancers via linkage to cancer registry data to 2013 and cancer death data to 2015. Among 229 028 participants aged ≥45 years, 18 475 cancers and 5382 cancer deaths occurred. Current‐smokers had increased risks of all cancers combined (HR = 1.42, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.34‐1.51), cancers of the lung (HR = 17.66, 95%CI, 14.65‐21.29), larynx (HR = 11.29, 95%CI, 5.49‐23.20), head‐and‐neck (HR = 2.53, 95%CI, 1.87‐3.41), oesophagus (HR = 3.84, 95%CI, 2.33‐6.35), liver (HR = 4.07, 95%CI, 2.55‐6.51), bladder (HR = 3.08, 95%CI, 2.00‐4.73), pancreas (HR = 2.68, 95%CI, 1.93‐3.71), colorectum (HR = 1.31, 95%CI, 1.09‐1.57) and unknown primary site (HR = 3.26, 95%CI, 2.19‐4.84) versus never‐smokers. Hazards increased with increasing smoking intensity; compared to never‐smokers, lung cancer HR = 9.22 (95%CI, 5.14‐16.55) for 1‐5 cigarettes/day and 38.61 (95%CI, 25.65‐58.13) for >35 cigarettes/day. Lung cancer risk was lower with quitting at any age but remained higher than never‐smokers for quitters aged >25y. By age 80y, an estimated 48.3% of current‐smokers (41.1% never‐smokers) will develop cancer, and 14% will develop lung cancer, including 7.7% currently smoking 1‐5 cigarettes/day and 26.4% for >35 cigarettes/day (1.0% never‐smokers). Cancer risk for Australian smokers is significant, even for 'light' smokers. These contemporary estimates underpin the need for continued investment in strategies to prevent smoking uptake and facilitate cessation, which remain key to reducing cancer morbidity and mortality worldwide. The relationship between vitamin D status or supplementation and cancer outcomes has been examined in several meta‐analyses. To address remaining knowledge gaps, we conducted a systematic overview and critical appraisal of pertinent meta‐analyses. For meta‐analyses of trials, we assessed their quality using AMSTAR‐2 (A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews), strength of associations using umbrella review methodology and credibility of evidence using GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) criteria. Meta‐analyses of observational studies reported inverse associations of 25OHD with risk of cancer incidence and cancer mortality and, particularly for colorectal cancer, fulfilled some of Bradford‐Hill's causation criteria. In meta‐analyses of trials, vitamin D supplementation did not affect cancer incidence. However, we found credible evidence that vitamin D supplementation reduced total cancer mortality risk, with five out of six meta‐analyses reporting a relative risk (RR) reduction of up to 16%: RR, 0.84 (95% CI, 0.74–0.95). The strength of the association, however, was classified as weak. This was true among meta‐analyses of high, moderate, and lower quality (AMSTAR‐2–rated). Trials did not include large numbers of vitamin D‐deficient participants; many tested relatively low doses and lacked sufficiently powered data on site‐specific cancers. In conclusion, meta‐analyses show that, although observational evidence indicates that low vitamin D status is associated with a higher risk of cancer outcomes, randomized trials show that vitamin D supplementation reduces total cancer mortality, but not cancer incidence. However, trials with larger proportions of vitamin D‐insufficient participants and longer durations of follow‐up, plus adequately powered data on site‐specific common cancers, would provide further insight into the evidence base. © 2020 The Authors. Objective: A previous Australian study compared the observed numbers of cancer cases and deaths in 2007 with the expected numbers based on 1987 rates. This study examines the impact of cancer rate changes over the 20-year period 1996–2015, for people aged under 75 years. Results: The overall age-standardised cancer incidence rate increased from 350.7 in 1995 to 364.4 per 100,000 in 2015. Over the period 1996–2015, there were 29,226 (2.0%) more cases (males: 5940, 0.7%; females: 23,286, 3.7%) than expected numbers based on 1995 rates. Smaller numbers of cases were observed compared to those expected for cancers of the lung for males and colorectum, and cancers with unknown primary. Larger numbers of cases were observed compared to those expected for cancers of the prostate, thyroid and female breast. The overall age-standardised cancer mortality rate decreased from 125.6 in 1995 to 84.3 per 100,000 in 2015. During 1996 to 2015 there were 106,903 (− 20.6%) fewer cancer deaths (males: − 69,007, − 22.6%; females: − 37,896, − 17.9%) than expected based on the 1995 mortality rates. Smaller numbers of deaths were observed compared to those expected for cancers of the lung, colorectum and female breast, and more cancer deaths were observed for liver cancer. Economic and living conditions have improved over time in most countries, although often in association with detrimental lifestyle and environmental changes that are major determinants of cancer. In this ecological study, we assess the association between national socioeconomic levels and incidence and mortality rates for all cancers combined and 27 cancer types, in 175 countries. We obtained national level cancer incidence and mortality estimates for 2018 from GLOBOCAN and computed an index of socioeconomic development based on national education and income levels extracted from the United Nations Development Programme. Cancer incidence rates are strongly positively associated with the national socioeconomic level for all cancers combined and for a large number of cancer types, in both sexes. Conversely, the association between socioeconomic development and cancer mortality rates is less clear. The most common pattern for type‐specific cancers is an increasing incidence rate with a relatively stable mortality rate as socioeconomic development increases. Despite the high incidence rates for many cancer types, mortality rates are relatively low in high‐income countries, partly due to the availability of early detection and effective treatments. As socioeconomic development continues to rise, countries with currently low‐ and medium‐development levels may experience large increases in the incidence of several cancers. Given the limited resources and lack of infrastructure, increases in incidence rates in low‐income countries will likely be paralleled by increases in mortality rates. Efforts to plan, implement and evaluate prevention programs must therefore be considered as greater priorities in Low‐ and Middle‐income countries. What's new? Digital radiography has the potential to improve the practice of radiography but it also has the potential to significantly increase patient doses. Considering rapidly growing digital radiography in many centers, concerns rise about increasing the collective dose of the human population and following health effects. This study aimed to estimate organ and effective doses and calculate the lifetime attributable risk (LAR) of cancer incidence and mortality in digital radiography procedures in Iran. Organ and effective doses of 12 routine digital radiography examinations including the skull, cervical spine, chest, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, pelvic and abdomen were estimated using PCXMC software based on Monte Carlo simulation method. Then, LARs of cancer incidence and mortality were estimated using the BEIR VII method. Organ doses ranged from 0.01 to a maximum of 2.5 mGy while effective doses ranged from 0.01 to 0.7 mSv. Radiation risk showed dependence on the X-ray examination type and the patient's sex and age. In skull and cervical X-rays, the thyroid; in the chest and thoracic spine X-rays, the lung, and breast; and in the lumbar spine, pelvic and abdominal X-rays, the colon and bladder had the highest LAR of cancer incidence and mortality. Furthermore, younger patients and also females were at higher radiation risk. The lifetime attributable risk of cancer incidence and mortality due to radiation exposure is not trivial. Purpose: Thyroid cancer incidence is rising, possibly secondary to increased imaging and surveillance. Based on rural access to care disparities, we hypothesized that incidence would be greater in urban compared to rural counties with no significant difference in long‐term survival. Methods: An observational study was performed on thyroid cancer patients using Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results data (2000‐2012). Age‐adjusted incidence rates, incidence rate ratios, and survival rates were calculated across rural‐urban designations. Findings: Incidence rates were 11.2, 9.8, and 10.1 per 100,000 for urban, rural‐adjacent, and rural‐nonadjacent counties, respectively. Statistically significantly lower incidence was noted in rural‐adjacent and rural‐nonadjacent compared to urban areas. Five‐year and 10‐year survival was significantly lower in rural‐nonadjacent counties compared to urban counties. Conclusions: Higher incidence and increased long‐term survival for thyroid cancer were noted in urban areas compared to rural areas. Although local treatments for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) are highly effective, it has been reported that treated women remain at increased risk of cervical and other cancers. Our aim is to explore the risk of developing or dying from cervical cancer and other human papillomavirus (HPV)- and non-HPV-related malignancies after CIN treatment and infer its magnitude compared with the general population. Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis. Eligibility criteria: Studies with registry-based follow-up reporting cancer incidence or mortality after CIN treatment. Data synthesis: Summary effects were estimated using random-effects models. Incidence rate of cervical cancer among women treated for CIN (per 100 000 woman-years). Relative risk (RR) of cervical cancer, other HPV-related anogenital tract cancer (vagina, vulva, anus), any cancer, and mortality, for women treated for CIN versus the general population. Twenty-seven studies were eligible. The incidence rate for cervical cancer after CIN treatment was 39 per 100 000 woman-years (95% confidence interval 22–69). The RR of cervical cancer was elevated compared with the general population (3.30, 2.57–4.24; P < 0.001). The RR was higher for women more than 50 years old and remained elevated for at least 20 years after treatment. The RR of vaginal (10.84, 5.58–21.10; P < 0.001), vulvar (3.34, 2.39–4.67; P < 0.001), and anal cancer (5.11, 2.73–9.55; P < 0.001) was also higher. Mortality from cervical/vaginal cancer was elevated, but our estimate was more uncertain (RR 5.04, 0.69–36.94; P = 0.073). Women treated for CIN have a considerably higher risk to be later diagnosed with cervical and other HPV-related cancers compared with the general population. The higher risk of cervical cancer lasts for at least 20 years after treatment and is higher for women more than 50 years of age. Prolonged follow-up beyond the last screening round may be warranted for previously treated women. • Women previously treated for CIN are at elevated risk of cervical and other HPV-related neoplasms. • Risk of cervical cancer remains elevated for at least 20 years after treatment. • Prolonged cervical screening beyond current last screening round at 60 or 65 should be considered. • Increased awareness for prevention or early cancer detection of other HPV-related malignancies is needed. Evidence regarding the role of physical frailty in cancer-related outcomes is limited. We aimed to examine the association of frailty with cancer incidence and mortality risk. This prospective study included 348,144 participants free of cancer at baseline from the UK Biobank. Frailty phenotypes (non-frail, pre-frail, and frail) were constructed from 5 components: weight loss, exhaustion, low physical activity, slow gait speed, and low grip strength. The outcome was incidence and mortality of overall and cite-specific cancers. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate the association of frailty phenotypes with cancer incidence and mortality risk. A total of 43,304 incident cancer cases and 10,152 cancer deaths were documented during a median of 12.0 years of follow-up. For overall cancer, compared with non-frailty, the incidence risk increased by 4% for pre-frailty and 11% for frailty, and the mortality risk increased by 11% for pre-frailty and 39% for frailty. Frailty phenotypes were also dose-dependently associated with a higher risk of incidence and mortality of some site-specific cancers (including liver and lung), with significant sex differences. We observed a synergetic association of frailty phenotypes and smoking with overall cancer incidence and mortality risk. Frailty phenotypes contributed significantly to a higher risk of overall and some site-specific cancers incidence and mortality in a stepwise manner or within individual categories. Identification of high-risk areas of cancer, referred to as spatial clusters, can inform targeted policies for cancer control. Although cancer cluster detection could be affected by various geographic characteristics including sociodemographic and environmental factors which impacts could also vary over time, studies accounting for such influence remain limited. This study aims to assess the role of geographic characteristics in the spatial cluster detection for lung and stomach cancer over an extended period. We obtained sex-specific age-standardized incidence and mortality rates of lung and stomach cancer as well as geographic characteristics across 233 districts in South Korea for three five-year periods between 1999 and 2013. We classified geographic characteristics of each district into four categories: demography, socioeconomic status, behaviors, and physical environments. Specifically, we quantified physical environments using measures of greenness, concentrations of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, and air pollution emissions. Finally, we conducted cluster detection analyses using weighted normal spatial scan statistics with the residuals from multiple regression analyses performed with the four progressive sets of geographic attributes. We found that the size of clusters reduced as we progressively adjusted for geographic covariates. Among the four categories, physical environments had the greatest impact on the reduction or disappearance of clusters particularly for lung cancer consistently over time. Whereas older population affected a decrease of lung cancer clusters in the early period, the contribution of education was large in the recent period. The impact was less clear in stomach cancer than lung cancer. Cohort or period components of trends can provide a rationale for new research or point to clues on the effectiveness of control strategies. Graphical display of trends guides models that quantify the experience of a population. In this paper, a method for smoothing rates by single year of age and year is developed and displayed to show the contributions of period and cohort to trends. The magnitude of the contribution of period and/or cohort in a model for trends may be assessed by the percentage of deviance explained and the relative contributions of cohort (C) and period (P) individually, known as the C-P score. The method is illustrated using Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results data (1975–2014) on lung and bronchial cancer mortality in females and prostate and colorectal cancer incidence in males. Smoothed age-period and age-cohort rates provide a useful first step in studies of etiology and the impact of disease control without imposing a restrictive model. We found that, in this data set, cohort predominates for female lung and bronchial cancer and period predominates for male prostate cancer. However, the effects change with age for male colorectal cancer incidence, indicating an age shift in relevant exposures. Pearson correlation coefficient is estimated to reveal how the cancers closely associated with PM 2.5 long-term exposure. Then linear regression is conducted to evaluate sex- and area-specific increased risks of those cancers from high level PM 2.5 long-term exposure. The major finding is with the increase of every 10 μg/m3 of annual mean PM 2.5 concentration, the increase of relative risks for lung cancer incidence and mortality are 15% and 23% for males, and 22% and 24% for females in rural area. For urban area, the increase of relative risk for ovarian cancer incidence is 9% for females, while that for prostatic cancer increases 17% for males. For leukemia, the increase of relative risks for incidence and mortality are 22% and 19% for females in rural area, while in urban area the increase of relative risk for mortality is 9% for males and for incidence is 6% for females. It is also found that with increased PM 2.5 exposure, the risks for ovarian and prostatic cancer rise significantly in urban area, while risks for lung cancer and leukemia rise significantly in rural area. The results demonstrate the higher risks for lung cancer and leukemia with increased PM 2.5 exposure are more significant for female. This study also suggests that the carcinogenic effects of PM 2.5 have obvious sex and urban-rural differences. Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the Caribbean, including the islands of Trinidad and Tobago (TT). The population of TT consists of over 1.3 million people with diverse ancestral and sociocultural backgrounds, both of which may influence cancer incidence and mortality. The objective of this study was to examine incidence and mortality patterns and trends in TT.Methods: Cancer surveillance data on 29,512 incident cancer cases reported to the Dr. Elizabeth Quamina Cancer Registry (population-based cancer registry of TT) between 1995 and 2009 were analyzed. Age-standardized rates, overall and by sex, ancestry, and geography, were reported.Results: The highest incidence and mortality rates were observed for cancers related to reproductive organs in women, namely, breast, cervical, and uterine cancers, and prostate, lung and colorectal cancers among men. Average incidence rates were highest in areas covered by the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) (188 per 100,000), while average mortality rates were highest in areas covered by the North West Regional Health Authority (108 per 100,000). Nationals of African ancestry exhibited the highest rates of cancer incidence (243 per 100,000) and mortality (156 per 100,000) compared to their counterparts who were of East Indian (incidence, 125 per 100,000; mortality, 66 per 100,000) or mixed ancestry (incidence, 119 per 100,000; mortality, 66 per 100,000).Conclusions: Our findings highlight the need for national investment to improve the understanding of the epidemiology of cancer in Trinidad and Tobago, and to ultimately guide much needed cancer prevention and control initiatives in the near future. Purpose: In Trinidad and Tobago (TT), prostate cancer (CaP) is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy and the leading cause of cancer deaths among men. TT currently has one of the highest CaP mortality rates in the world.Methods: 6,064 incident and 3,704 mortality cases of CaP occurring in TT from January 1995 to 31 December 2009 reported to the Dr. Elizabeth Quamina Cancer population-based cancer registry for TT, were analyzed to examine CaP survival, incidence, and mortality rates and trends by ancestry and geography.Results: The age-standardized CaP incidence and mortality rates (per 100,000) based on the 1960 world-standardized in 2009 were 64.2 and 47.1 per 100,000. The mortality rate in TT increased between 1995 (37.9 per 100,000) and 2009 (79.4 per 100,000), while the rate in the US decreased from 37.3 per 100,000 to 22.1 per 100,000 over the same period. Fewer African ancestry patients received treatment relative to those of Indian and mixed ancestry (45.7%, 60.3%, and 60.9%, respectively).Conclusions: Notwithstanding the limitations surrounding data quality, our findings highlight the increasing burden of CaP in TT and the need for improved surveillance and standard of care. Our findings highlight the need for optimized models to project cancer rates in developing countries like TT. Purpose: The present study attempts to calculate organ-absorbed and effective doses for cancer patients to estimate the possible cancer induction and cancer mortality risks resulting from 64-slice abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) simulations for radiotherapy treatment planning (RTTP). Material and methods: A group of 70 patients, who underwent 64-slice abdominopelvic CT scan for RTTP, voluntarily participated in the present study. To calculate organ and effective doses in a standard phantom of 70 kg, the collected dosimetric parameters were used with the ImPACT CT Patient Dosimetry Calculator. Patient-specific organ dose and effective dose were calculated by applying related correction factors. For the estimation of lifetime attributable risks (LARs) of cancer incidence and cancer-related mortality, doses in radiosensitive organs were converted to risks based on the data published in Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation VII (BEIR VII). Results: The mean ± standard deviation (SD) of the effective dose for males and females were 13.87 ± 2.37 mSv (range: 9.25-18.82 mSv) and 13.04 ± 3.42 mSv (range: 6.99-18.37 mSv), respectively. The mean ± SD of LAR of cancer incidence was 35.34 ± 13.82 cases in males and 34.49 ± 9.63 cases in females per 100,000 persons. The LAR of cancer mortality had the mean ± SD value of 15.38 ± 4.25 and 16.72 ± 3.87 cases per 100,000 persons in males and females respectively. Conclusion: Increase in the LAR of cancer occurrence and mortality due to abdominopelvic treatment planning CT simulation is noticeable and should be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Objective: Insulin‐like growth factor 1 (IGF1) has anabolic and growth‐promoting effects, raising concerns regarding its potential to promote tumour growth. Circulating IGF1 is bound to binding proteins, which modulate bioavailability of IGF1. This study assessed the associations of IGF1 and its binding proteins 1 (IGFBP1) and 3 (IGFBP3) with cancer risk. Design: A prospective cohort study of 4042 men aged ≥70 years. Methods: Plasma total IGF1, IGFBP1 and IGFBP3 were measured between 2001 and 2004. Cancer‐related outcomes were assessed until 20 June 2013 using data linkage. Analyses were performed using proportional hazards models with death as a competing risk, and adjustments were made for potential confounders. Results are expressed as subhazard ratios (SHR). Results: There were 907 men who were diagnosed with cancer during a median of 9‐year follow‐up. Of these, there were 359, 139 and 125 prostate, colorectal and lung cancers, respectively. After adjustments, total IGF1 was not associated with the incidence of any cancer, prostate, lung or colorectal cancer. In the fully‑adjusted model, higher IGFBP3 was associated with increased incidence of colorectal cancer (SHR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.01‐1.43; P = .041 for every 1 standard deviation increase in IGFBP3) but not other cancers. This effect was not attenuated by inclusion of total IGF1 into the multivariate model (SHR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.03‐1.58; P = .025). Neither total IGF1, IGFBP1 nor IGFBP3 were associated with cancer‐related deaths. Conclusion: Higher IGFBP3 predicted increased incidence of colorectal cancer in older men independent of conventional risk factors and total IGF1. Proinflammatory dietary patterns have been associated with increased cancer risk and mortality. We present a systematic review and meta-analysis of the current published literature on a dietary inflammatory index (DII) score and its association with cancer risk and mortality outcomes. Published articles from online databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Embase) examining the association between DII and any cancer risk, incidence, or mortality between 1980 and November 2016 were selected for review. Results of studies meeting inclusion criteria were summarized and meta-analyzed using STATA to generate summary measures of association across studies. Sixty-three published articles were identified from the search, and following title, abstract and full-text review, twenty-four studies met inclusion criteria. All articles calculated DII scores based on study-specific food-frequency questionnaires using methodology from the same article. Of the 24 included studies, 13 were case-control, 6 were prospective cohort, 1 was a retrospective cohort, 3 were RCTs, and 1 did not specify study design. The most common cancers examined were colorectal, breast, lung, and prostate. Individuals in the highest versus lowest DII categories had 25% increased risk of overall cancer incidence (RR: 1.25, 95% CI: 1.16-1.35), 75% higher odds of cancer (OR: 1.75, 95% CI: 1.43-2.16) and 67% increased risk of cancer mortality (RR: 1.67, 95% CI: 1.13-2.48). Upon stratification for cancer type, positive associations remained (RRbreast: RR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.03-1.22) (RRcolorectal: 1.33, 95% CI: 1.22-1.46) (RRlung: 1.30, 95% CI: 1.13-1.50). Large clinical cancer registries (CCRs) in Germany shall be strengthened by the German Social Code Book V (SGB V) and implemented until the end of 2017. There are currently several large cancer registries that support clinical data for outcome analysis and knowledge acquisition. The various examples of the Munich Cancer Registry outlined in this paper present many-sided possibilities using and analyzing registry data. The main objective of population-based cancer registration within a defined area and the performance of outcomes research is to provide feedback regarding the results to the broad public, the reporting doctors, and the scientific community. These tasks determine principles of operation and data usage by CCRs. Each clinical department delivers its own findings and applied therapy. The compilation of these data in CCRs provides information on patient progress through the regional network of medical care and delivers meaningful information on the course of oncological diseases. Successful implementation of CCRs allows for presenting the statistical outcomes of health-care delivery, improving the quality of care within the region, accelerating the process of implementing innovative therapies, and generating new hypotheses as a stimulus for research activities. The preventive effect of coffee on cancer at different sites has been reported, but the effect on all-sites cancer incidence has not been extensively investigated. We evaluated the association between frequency of coffee consumption and risk of all-sites cancer incidence and mortality among 39 685 men and 43 124 women (age 40-79 years, at baseline), in the Three-Prefecture Cohort Study. The association between frequency of coffee consumption and risk of all-sites cancer incidence and mortality was assessed by a Cox proportional hazards regression model, adjusted for potential confounders. During 411 341 person-years among men and 472 433 person-years among women, a total of 4244 men and 2601 women developed cancer at different sites and a total of 3021 men and 1635 women died of cancer at different sites. We showed an inverse association between frequency of coffee consumption and all-sites cancer incidence in both men and women. Comparing participants who consumed coffee with those who never drank coffee, the adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidential interval) for all-sites cancer incidence was 0.74 (0.62-0.88) for coffee consumption of ≥5 cups/day in men ( P for trend < 0.001) and 0.76 (0.58-1.02) in women ( P for trend = 0.020). Coffee consumption frequency was inversely associated with mortality from all-sites cancer. The National Central Cancer Registry of China (NCCR) was the only available source of cancer monitoring in China, even though only about 70% of cancer registration sites were qualified by now. In this study, based on a national large prospective cohort-the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB), we aimed to provide additional cancer statistics and compare the difference of cancer burden between urban and rural areas of China. A total of 497,693 cancer-free participants aged 35-74 years were recruited and successfully followed up from 2004 to 2013 in 5 urban and 5 rural areas across China. Except for traditional registration systems, the national health insurance system and active follow-up were used to determine new cancer incidents and related deaths. The mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) was used to compare the differences of cancer burden between urban and rural areas of China. We found that cancer mortality coincided well between our cohort and NCCR, while the incidence was much higher in our cohort. Based on CKB, we found the MIR of all cancers was 0.54 in rural areas, which was approximately one-third higher than that in urban areas with 0.39. Cancer profiles in urban areas were transiting to Western distributions, which were characterized with high incidences of breast cancer and colorectal cancer; while cancers of the esophagus, liver and cervix uteri were still common in rural areas of China. Several large prospective studies show an association between serum uric acid (SUA) and cancer, however there is a lack of evidence in China. We aimed to investigate the effects of SUA levels on cancer incidence and mortality in China. This study included 20,577 adult hypertensive patients with valid SUA measurements who participated in the China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial where subjects were randomly assigned to receive a double-blind treatment of either 10 mg enalapril (n = 10,286) or 10.8 mg enalapril-folic acid (n = 10,291). Subjects were prospectively followed for a median of 4.5 years. Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate hazards ratios (HR) of cancer risk associated with SUA. A total of 232 participants developed cancer. SUA was independently associated with increased cancer risk in the enalapril group [HR: 1.12, (95% CI: 1.03-1.22)]. Compared to the lowest tertile, combined subjects with SUA levels from the upper two tertiles had a higher risk of cancer in the enalapril group [T2 + T3: HR: 1.58, (95% CI: 1.02-2.47)]. In cancer site-specific analyses, a positive association of SUA levels with digestive cancer and all fatal cancer was also observed [HR: 1.18, (95% CI: 1.09-1.27); HR: 1.15, (95% CI: 1.03-1.28), respectively] in the enalapril group. Interestingly, SUA levels were not associated with the risk of cancer or related mortality in the enalapril folic acid group. Our results suggest that elevated SUA is independently and positively associated with the risk of total cancer incidence, digestive cancer incidence and cancer mortality among hypertensive Chinese.
