This paper analyses the contents of the first thirty years of the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management and its predecessor, the Journal of Tertiary Education Administration. The paper examines the papers published between 1979 and 2008 according to their authorship, country of origin and broad content, noting changes over time. In the broadest of terms, the proportion of papers written by academic staff and by women has increased, as has the proportion of papers from sources other than Australia and New Zealand. Traditional geophysical inversion methods rely on an assumption of prior knowledge, starting from the establishment of the initial model and ending with the model being modified many times. This iterative process makes the forward modelling results move increasingly closer to the observed data. However, each inversion step requires multiple forward calculations, which consumes considerable time and computing resources. This is the greatest obstacle to real-time inversion at present. Airborne transient electromagnetic (ATEM) response data are collected in a time-channel manner. The different stratigraphic structures reveal different time-varying electromagnetic response laws. In this paper, deep learning technology is used to advance the 'model correction-forward iteration' step in the geophysical inversion process to the data preprocessing stage, to better adapt to the specialty of ATEM, improve the efficiency of the inversion and shorten the inversion time. In this method, a sample set composed of a 'stratigraphic texture model—ATEM response' is established, the K-Means clustering technique of unsupervised learning is used to complete the sample tag attachment, and the multilayer perceptron (MLP) deep learning network with supervised learning is used to complete the multiclassification tasks. Then, the sample sets are input into the deep learning network for training to build the inversion from the input response data to the output of the stratigraphic model. Finally, the inversion flow is verified with test set samples. The prediction results are consistent with the simulated data, and the inversion, from the test data to the prediction model, is implemented efficiently. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper reviews the fourth decade of the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management, including author analyses and thematic insights from articles published from 2009 to 2018. In addition to an increase in the number of articles published, the Journal now publishes more articles by authors from outside Australia, female authors and co-authored articles. Institutional management and leadership is the most common theme, responsible for just over one quarter of articles. By methodology and level of analysis, roughly half of all articles utilise survey or multivariate approaches and target national-level insights. Due to the practical orientation of the journal, many articles integrate management, leadership and policy with other common higher education themes, such as student experience and quality assurance. Airborne time-domain electromagnetic (ATEM) which is suitable for large-scale exploration in complex terrain areas is a high-efficiency, flexible geophysical investigation technique widely applied in various fields of work with broad application prospects. It is difficult to carry out ground geophysical exploration because of the great human disturbance in the study area. By applying ATEM in the air, together with ground geophysical investigation efforts, we were able to greatly improve the hydrogeological research degree of the area and provide useful geophysical data for the fundamental geological research there. The observation system used in our study was an AeroTEM-IV system. The survey data were converted into conductivity depth information, which was used together with existing geological data to examine the electrical structure of the area. By the hydrogeological logging interpretation result, we validated the reliability of the AEM data; comprehensive interpretation was also conducted using airborne magnetic (AM) data to improve the accuracy of the interpretation result. After converting the data across the area, we yielded a three-dimensional data body representing the electrical distribution in the area, with which we inferred the Quaternary formation thickness and aquifer distribution there. Our research and interpretation results confirm that ATEM can be used as a useful means for hydrogeological survey and fundamental geological investigation. This study investigates the role of self-efficacy (S-e) in teaching Arabic and proposes a model for teaching that encompasses teaching goals, materials, and strategies. The study draws on Bandura's scientific works and other studies that develop S-e theory. The model is developed based on the characteristics of the materials that promote the growth of S-e in students, using three different methods. The resulting Arabic Teaching Efficacy Model (ATEM) improves objective thinking, critical thinking, responsiveness, and student persistence through active mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion from others, social recognition, and reinforcement of physiological and affective aspects. ATEM recommends themes such as Science and technology, What do you think?, I can speak arabic, I speak arabic every day, What is your experience?, Other people's experiences, and Respect for others as teaching materials. The influence of minor alloying platinum group metal additions on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of austenitic stainless steels has been investigated in simulated pressurised water reactor environments. Crack propagation studies, employing tensile specimens precracked in acidified potassium tetrathionate and subsequently loaded in proving rings revealed that 1 wt-% ruthenium additions improved the resistance of 304 stainless steels to SCC. Analytical transmission electron microscopy was used to characterise crack tips and surface oxides after high temperature SCC tests. Enrichment of ruthenium and molybdenum within the dual oxide surface layers was observed in the ruthenium modified stainless steel, which is likely to have occurred during potassium tetrathionate pre-exposure and promoted intergranular SCC mitigation. Palladium additions (1 wt-%) showed no beneficial effects to SCC, and this was associated with the formation of second phases PdMn particles upon sensitisation, which decreased the availability of Pd. Barite nanocrystals are common and abundant in the troposphere over the Upper Silesian Industrial Region, Poland. The presence of barite nanocrystals is the result of burning Ba-enriched coals (up to 4,260 ppm Ba). ATEM, ASEM and EPMA analyses provided evidence of inefficient coal burning for domestic purposes at temperatures of 800–900 °C as the cause of emissions of barite, which survived unmelted. Much higher temperatures of coal burning for industrial purposes resulted in thermal decomposition of barite into BaO, which could react with airborne sulfuric acid to produce nanometre-sized secondary barite. Formation of both the secondary barite and gypsum in the troposphere contributes to the lowering of acidity of rain over Upper Silesia. Barite nanocrystals are often embedded in sheets of hydrocarbon materials with sizes in the range of respirable aerosols; therefore, they may enter the human respiratory system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
