The two-dimensional laser-based Ångstrom method measures the in-plane thermal properties for anisotropic film-like materials. It involves periodic laser heating at the center of a suspended film sample and records its transient thermal response by infrared imaging. These spatiotemporal temperature data must be analyzed to extract the unknown thermal conductivity values in the orthotropic directions, an inverse parameter fitting problem. Previous demonstration of the metrology technique used a least-squares fitting method that relies on numerical differentiation to evaluate the second-order partial derivatives in the differential equation describing transient conduction in the physical system. This fitting approach is susceptible to measurement noise, introducing high uncertainty in the extracted properties when working with noisy data. For example, when noise of a signal-to-noise ratio of 10 is added to simulated amplitude and phase data, the error in the extracted thermal conductivity can exceed 80%. In this work, we introduce a new alternative inverse parameter fitting approach using physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) to increase the robustness of the measurement technique for noisy temperature data. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach even for scenarios with extreme levels of noise in the data. Specifically, the PINN-approach accurately extracts the properties to within 5% of the true values even for high noise levels (a signal-to-noise ratio of 1). This offers a promising avenue for improving the robustness and accuracy of advanced thermal metrology tools that rely on inverse parameter fitting of temperature data to extract thermal properties. Cobalt oxides are known for their excellent heat transfer properties. The main component of cobalt oxides is the CoO2 monolayer, which exhibits high-temperature superconductivity caused by strong electron–phonon coupling (EPC). We here systematically investigate the structural stability, electronic structure, and magnetism of the CoO2 monolayer using first-principles and Monte Carlo simulations. On this basis, we further study the changes in the spin energy gap, magnetic axis direction, and other properties of the CoO2 monolayer with the changes in carrier concentration. By appropriately doping the CoO2 monolayer with holes, the magnetic axis direction of the CoO2 monolayer can be reversed, thereby enhancing its potential application in the field of spin electronic devices. Monte Carlo simulation is used to study the regulation of different factors on the magnetothermal properties of the CoO2 monolayer. Through the analysis of physical parameters such as Curie temperature (TC) and bandgap, we find that the appropriate carrier concentration and magnetic field can not only regulate the magnetothermal properties of materials but also further improve the efficiency of materials in low-temperature environments. Thermal transport plays a pivotal role across diverse disciplines, yet the intricate relationship between amorphous network structures and thermal conductance properties remains elusive due to the absence of a reliable and comprehensive network's dataset to be investigated. In this study, we have created a dataset comprising multiple amorphous network structures of varying sizes, generated through a combination of the node disturbance method and Delaunay triangulation, to fine-tune an initially random network toward both increased and decreased thermal conductance C. The tuning process is guided by the simulated annealing algorithm. Our findings unveil that C is inversely dependent on the normalized average shortest distance L n o r m connecting heat source nodes and sink nodes, which is determined by the network topological structure. Intuitively, the amorphous network with increased C is associated with an increased number of bonds oriented along the thermal transport direction, which shortens the heat transfer distance from the source to sink node. Conversely, thermal transport encounters impedance with an augmented number of bonds oriented perpendicular to the thermal transport direction, which is demonstrated by the increased L n o r m . We here report the electronic structure calculation of GaInSe3 and GaInTe3 monolayers with the P3m1 (no. 156) space group. The electronic structure and thermoelectric properties of the monolayers are calculated through the Vienna Ab initio Simulation Package and BoltzTraP2 codes. The dynamic and thermodynamic stabilities were verified by calculating their phonon spectra and simulating ab initio molecular dynamics. The monolayers were found to have a direct bandgap, with both PBE + SOC and HSE06 + SOC potentials. The lattice thermal conductivity of GaInTe3 monolayer calculated using Phono3py code shows ultra-low values due to enhanced phonon–phonon scattering. Combining electrical and thermal transport, the values have been evaluated. Importantly, the p-type GaInTe3 has excellent thermoelectric properties at 700 K, with a z T value of 2, indicating that the p-type GaInTe3 has potential application in the field of thermoelectricity. The binary high-pressure phase diagram of the Ta–Sb system was constructed for the first time in this study, utilizing the evolutionary algorithm USPEX and density functional theory (DFT). Ten pressurized dynamically and mechanically stable or metastable novel phases of Ta–Sb were discovered, including I4/mmm-TaSb2, P4/nmm-TaSb, P-3-Ta2Sb7, I4/mmm-Ta2Sb3, P-4m2-Ta7Sb, Pm-3-Ta7Sb, Pmm2-Ta15Sb, P4/nmm-TaSb3, I4/mmm-Ta3Sb4, and I4/mmm-Ta2Sb5. The compounds P-4m2-Ta7Sb and Pmm2-Ta15Sb exhibit promising characteristics as non-centrosymmetric superconductors (NCSs), with their superconducting critical temperature (TC) being 3.831 and 3.221 K, respectively. The application of pressure tuning is predicted to transform the topological characteristics of P4/nmm-TaSb, causing it to transition from a topological insulator state to a Dirac semimetal state and ultimately reverting back to a topological insulator state. Therefore, the P4/nmm-TaSb compound is considered a promising candidate to investigate topological and superconducting excitations. Moreover, the mechanical and thermal properties of Ta–Sb binary phases were also investigated. The thermal conductivity of I4/mmm-TaSb2, P4/nmm-TaSb, and P4/nmm-TaSb3 all surpasses 20 W m−1 K−1 at 1000 K, showcasing their excellent thermal conductivity properties. The present study addresses the research gap concerning high-pressure structures in the Ta–Sb binary system, thereby offering valuable insights for the design and development of intermetallic compounds within this binary system. Owing to the unique asymmetric geometry, Janus monolayer compounds exhibit various exotic thermal properties and have promising applications in thermal management. In this study, we combine machine learning potentials and the phonon Boltzmann transport equation to perform a comparative study of the thermal transport properties in Janus XBAlY (X = Se, S, Te; Y = S, Se, O; X ≠ Y) monolayers. Our findings unveil a thermal conductivity (κ p) ranking as SeBAlS > TeBAlO > SBAlSe, contradicting the conventional expectation that a higher κ p is typically observed when the average atomic mass is smaller. At room temperature, the κ p of SeBAlS is 174 Wm−1 K−1, which is 4.8 times that of SBAlSe when considering three-phonon scattering processes. Moreover, the consideration of four-phonon scatterings does not alter such ranking. The anomalous κ p phenomenon was explained through a detailed analysis of the phonon–phonon scattering mechanism, phonon bandgap, phonon anharmonicity, and chemical bond strength. This study highlights the intricate relationship between atomic mass, bonding characteristics, and thermal properties, offering insights for designing Janus materials with tailored thermal conductivity. Hafnia (HfO2) is a potential candidate for the high-k gate dielectrics in next-generation high-power electronics. Its thermal transport properties, which determine the performance of these related high-power electronics, are critical while rarely investigated. Here, the thermal transport properties of HfO2 in a wide temperature range of 300–2000 K with a phase transition between monoclinic and tetragonal phases at ∼1765 K, are systematically studied based on the temperature-dependent effective potential landscapes with both propagating and coherence thermal transport considered. It is found that the cage-like structure of monoclinic HfO2 results in the avoid crossing in the phonon band structures, which increases the three-phonon scattering largely. Some phonon modes with significant scattering matrix can have relatively larger 3ph and 4ph scattering rates in tetragonal HfO2. Consequently, the thermal conductivity of HfO2 is only 11.95–1.72 W/mK at 300–2000 K. Our results further show that propagating phonon channels dominate the thermal transport in HfO2 and contribute at least 70% to the total thermal conductivity. The rest of the thermal conductivity of HfO2 results from the coherence thermal transport channels, which is caused by the overlap of phonons. Four-phonon scatterings are found to be significant for the thermal transport in tetragonal HfO2, which can result in a thermal conductivity reduction of ∼50%. Thermal transport in wurtzite aluminum nitride (w-AlN) significantly affects the performance and reliability of corresponding electronic devices, particularly when lattice strains inevitably impact the thermal properties of w-AlN in practical applications. To accurately model the thermal properties of w-AlN with high efficiency, we develop a machine learning interatomic potential based on the atomic cluster expansion (ACE) framework. The predictive power of the ACE potential against density functional theory (DFT) is demonstrated across a broad range of properties of w-AlN, including ground-state lattice parameters, specific heat capacity, coefficients of thermal expansion, bulk modulus, and harmonic phonon dispersions. Validation of lattice thermal conductivity is further carried out by comparing the ACE-predicted values to the DFT calculations and experiments, exhibiting the overall capability of our ACE potential in sufficiently describing anharmonic phonon interactions. As a practical application, we perform a lattice dynamics analysis using the potential to unravel the effects of biaxial strains on thermal conductivity and phonon properties of w-AlN, which is identified as a significant tuning factor for near-junction thermal design of w-AlN-based electronics. The lattice thermal conductivity (LTC) of Ga 2 O 3 is an important property due to the challenge in the thermal management of high-power devices. In this work, we develop machine-learned neuroevolution potentials (NEPs) for single-crystalline β - Ga 2 O 3 and κ - Ga 2 O 3 and demonstrate their accuracy in modeling thermal transport properties. Combining NEP-driven homogeneous non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with tensor analysis, we determine the spatial distributions of LTCs for two Ga 2 O 3 crystals, showing dissimilar thermal behaviors. Specifically, β - Ga 2 O 3 shows isotropic thermal transport properties, with the LTCs along [100], [010], and [001] directions being predicted to be 10.3 ± 0.2 , 19.9 ± 0.2 , and 12.6 ± 0.2 W/(m K), respectively, consistent with previous experimental measurements. For κ - Ga 2 O 3 , our predictions suggest nearly isotropic thermal transport properties, with the LTCs along [100], [010], and [001] being estimated to be 4.5 ± 0.1 , 3.9 ± 0.1 , and 4.0 ± 0.1 W/(m K). The reduced LTC of κ -Ga 2 O 3 vs β -Ga 2 O 3 stems from its restricted low-frequency phonons up to 5 THz. Furthermore, we find that the β phase exhibits a typical temperature dependence slightly stronger than ∼ T − 1 , whereas the κ phase shows a weaker temperature dependence, ranging from ∼ T − 0.5 to ∼ T − 0.7 . We present results of resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) measurements applied to granular high explosive materials at different bulk pressing densities and degree of thermal conditioning. The material chosen in this study is a ubiquitously used explosive material known as pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), which is used commercially in civil and defense applications both as a binderized plastic bonded explosive material and an unbinderized neat material. However, changes in granular PETN bulk elastic properties due to thermal conditioning, which could have implications for better understanding environmental aging-related effects, have not been well studied even though it is believed that elasticity may play an important role in explosive material initiation mechanisms. Furthermore, monitoring elastic property changes in granular explosive pressings has not yet been demonstrated using RUS, which is an appealing non-destructive characterization tool that requires only dry point contact with the explosive material. To this end, we report the first study using RUS to quantify the elastic properties of binderized and neat PETN pressings as well as to quantify changes in elastic properties as a function of both thermal conditioning and bulk pressing density. Elastic stiffness coefficients, sometimes more commonly referred to as elastic constants, calculated from the RUS measurements on the different PETN-based materials show a significant increase for the post-conditioned samples compared to the pre-conditioned samples. This trend of increasing elastic properties with thermal conditioning was consistent for different density pressings, different thermal exposure conditions, and even different neat PETN pressings of differing average crystal sizes and/or specific surface areas. The carbon nano-peapod is a representative structure with interlayer van der Waals (vdW) interactions, in which encapsulated fullerene molecules play a critical role in modulating the transport properties of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs). In particular, their influence on the thermal transport characteristics has been the focal point of considerable attention. In this study, we trained an accurate machine learning potential for fullerene-encapsulated CNTs based on the efficient NEP model to investigate their thermal properties. Using equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation along with the spectral decomposition method for thermal conductivity, we find that the thermal conductivity of fullerene-encapsulated CNTs is roughly 55 % lower than that of empty CNTs, aligning with experimental observations for CNT bundles with fullerene encapsulation [Kodama et al., Nat. Mater. 16, 892 (2017)]. The research suggests that weak vdW interactions between both the fullerene and CNTs, as well as between fullerene molecules themselves, hinder phonon propagation. The encapsulated fullerene contributes to an increase in phonon scattering within the CNTs, ultimately leading to a reduction in thermal conductivity. We utilized machine learning potential to investigate the structure of fullerene-encapsulated CNTs and their heat transport property. The use of flashlamp annealing as a low-temperature alternative or supplement to thermal annealing is investigated. Flashlamp annealing and thermal annealing were conducted on 100 nm thick indium tin oxide (ITO) films deposited on glass to compare the properties of films under different annealing methods. The ITO samples had an average initial sheet resistance of 50 Ω/sq. After flashlamp annealing, the sheet resistance was reduced to 33 Ω/sq only, while by thermal annealing at 210 °C for 30 min, a sheet resistance of 29 Ω/sq was achieved. Using a combination of flashlamp annealing and thermal annealing at 155 °C for 5 min, a sheet resistance of 29 Ω/sq was achieved. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that flashlamp annealing can be used to crystallize ITO. Flashlamp annealing allows for low-temperature crystallization of ITO on a time scale of 1–3 min. Through electrical and optical characterizations, it was determined that flashlamp annealing can achieve similar electrical and optical properties as thermal annealing. When an impurity with a light mass is inserted into a crystal, it can undergo a high-frequency oscillation referred to as a local vibrational mode (LVM). A Fermi resonance may occur between the LVM and lower-frequency modes of the defect. The LVM may also interact with phonons or the electromagnetic field. Understanding these interactions can help model and control diffusion, defect reactions, and thermal conductivity. LVMs have been probed in semiconductors using pressure and alloying as experimental parameters, resulting in anticrossing between localized and extended vibrational modes. These types of vibrational interactions could play an important role in the stability and thermal properties of organic–inorganic hybrid semiconductors. Recently, nanostructuration has been proposed to improve the performance of phase change memories. This is the case of superlattices composed of amorphous carbon and crystalline germanium telluride, which we have investigated by molecular dynamics. For this, a modified Stillinger–Weber potential is adapted to reproduce their stiffness contrast/impedance ratio. In order to study the effect of the interface interaction, two sets of parameters are used to model the interfaces with different interactions between the two materials using the properties of the softer material or the average properties between the two creating an adaptation of impedance across the layers. The effects of interface roughness and carbon diffusion at grain boundaries are studied. Using equilibrium molecular dynamics as well as the propagation of wave-packets, we show first that without impedance adaptation, the anisotropy is high, and the roughness has a marked impact on the properties. However, the introduction of impedance adaptation destroys those effects on the thermal conductivity. Finally, we show that the periodic texturing of the interface increases the transmission of in-plane transverse phonons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Time-domain thermoreflectance (TDTR) and frequency-domain thermoreflectance techniques have been widely used to measure thermal properties. However, the existence of the metal sensor brings some limitations to the experimental measurement, such as temperature limits, disability to measure low in-plane thermal conductivity, in situ measurement cannot be achieved, etc. This paper proposes a transducerless time-domain thermoreflectance method to measure in- and cross-plane thermal conductivity of nanofilms, in which the optical absorption depth and thermal conductivity tensor are considered to establish a new differential equation that can describe the heat conduction process in multilayer structures. This thermal model can also calculate the effects of spot ellipticity and spot offset distance. Then, the analytical solution and relative deviation of this new model and the surface heat flow boundary model used in conventional TDTR are compared by calculating the phase signals. In terms of experimental measurement, this model is successfully used to derive cross- and in-plane thermal conductivity of PdSi and IrNiTa amorphous alloy nanofilms without a metal sensor. We report on the thermal and magnetic properties of D y 1 − x S c x N i 2 series compounds (x = 0.1 , 0.3 , 0.5 , and 0.7), which were investigated through a model Hamiltonian including the exchange, Zeeman, and crystalline electric field interactions. We investigated the effect of Sc substitution on the Dy site on the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of these compounds. Theoretical results were simulated for heat capacity, entropy, and the magnetocaloric effect quantities. Our model reproduced the decrease of the magnetic ordering temperature and of the isothermal entropy change peaks as Sc concentration increases. The performance of sustainable polymers can be modified and enhanced by incorporating functional groups in the backbone of the polymer chain that increases intermolecular interactions, thus impacting the thermal properties of the material. However, in-depth studies on the role of intermolecular interactions on the crystallization of these polymers are still needed. This work aims to ascertain whether incorporating functional groups able to induce intermolecular interactions can be used as a suitable systematic strategy to modify the polymer thermal properties and crystallization kinetics. Thus, amide and additional ester groups have been incorporated into aliphatic polyesters (PEs). The impact of intermolecular interactions on the melting and crystallization behavior, crystallization kinetics, and crystalline structure has been determined. Functional groups that form strong intermolecular interactions increase both melting and crystallization temperatures but retard the crystallization kinetics. Selecting appropriate functional groups allows tuning the crystallinity degree, which can potentially improve the mechanical properties and degradability in semicrystalline materials. As the demand for computing applications capable of processing large datasets increases, there is a growing need for new in-memory computing technologies. Oxide-based resistive random-access memory (RRAM) devices are promising candidates for such applications because of their industry readiness, endurance, and switching ratio. These analog devices, however, suffer from poor linearity and asymmetry in their analog resistance change. Various reports have found that the temperature in RRAM devices increases locally by more than 1000 K during operation. Therefore, temperature control is of paramount importance for controlling their resistance. In this study, scanning thermal microscopy is used to map the temperature of Au/Ti/HfOx/Au devices at a steady power state and to measure temperature dynamics of the top electrode above the filament location during both resistive switching loops and voltage pulsing. These measurements are used to verify the thermal parameters of a multiphysics finite elements model. The model is then used to understand the impact of thermal conductivities and boundary conductances of constituent materials on resistance change during the first reset pulse in RRAM devices. It is found that the resistance change can be reduced significantly when the temperature in the titanium capping layer is reduced. We find that the greatest temperature reduction and, therefore, the lowest resistance change in the device are afforded by capping layers with increased thermal conductivities. The realization of single-molecule thermal conductance measurements has driven the need for theoretical tools to describe conduction processes that occur over atomistic length scales. In macroscale systems, the principle that is typically used to understand thermal conductivity is Fourier's law. At molecular length scales, however, deviations from Fourier's law are common in part because microscale thermal transport properties typically depend on the complex interplay between multiple heat conduction mechanisms. Here, the thermal transport properties that arise from electron transfer across a thermal gradient in a molecular conduction junction are examined theoretically. We illustrate how transport in a model junction is affected by varying the electronic structure and length of the molecular bridge in the junction as well as the strength of the coupling between the bridge and its surrounding environment. Three findings are of note: First, the transport properties can vary significantly depending on the characteristics of the molecular bridge and its environment; second, the system's thermal conductance commonly deviates from Fourier's law; and third, in properly engineered systems, the magnitude of electron hopping thermal conductance is similar to what has been measured in single-molecule devices. It is highly challenging to grow high-quality gallium nitride (GaN) layers on silicon (Si) substrates due to the intrinsic mismatching of their structural and thermal properties. Aluminum nitride (AlN) interlayers have been used to induce a compressive strain to GaN layers during growth, which compensates for the tensile strain in these layers on Si substrates during cooling. In this study, we investigated the effect of the growth temperature and layer structure of the AlN interlayer to understand the relationship between surface flatness and relaxation ratio of the AlN interlayer and the compressive strain in the overlying GaN layer. Low-temperature (LT) growth enhanced lattice relaxation of the AlN interlayer, whereas the AlN surface was atomically flat at high temperature (HT). We also examined a two-step growth to combine the advantages of LT- and HT-AlN. This approach resulted in a surface with multiple flat regions separated by grooves, which had the largest compressive strain in the overlying GaN layer at the early stages of growth. At later stages, the strain was the largest on the HT-AlN interlayer. In both cases, the experimentally measured compressive strain exceeded simulated predictions. The dynamics of a spin torque-driven ferrimagnetic (FiM) system is investigated using the two-sublattice macrospin model. We demonstrate ultrafast switching in the picosecond range. However, we find that the excessive current leads to magnetic oscillation. Therefore, faster switching cannot be achieved by unlimitedly increasing the current. By systematically studying the impact of thermal fluctuations, we find that the dynamics of FiMs can also be distinguished into the precessional region, the thermally activated region, and the crossover region. However, in the precessional region, there is a significant deviation between FiM and ferromagnet (FM), i.e., the FM is insensitive to thermal fluctuations since its switching is only determined by the amount of net charge. In contrast, we find that the thermal effect is pronounced even when a very short current pulse is applied to the FiM. We attribute this anomalous effect to the complex relation between the anisotropy and overdrive current. By controlling the magnetic anisotropy, we demonstrate that the FiM can also be configured to be insensitive to thermal fluctuations. This controllable thermal property makes the FiM promising in many emerging applications such as the implementation of tunable activation functions in the neuromorphic computing. The peculiar potential transition metal dichalcogenides in regard to sensor and device applications have been exhibited by both experimental and theoretical studies. The use of these materials, thermodynamically stable even at elevated temperatures, particularly in nano- and optoelectronic technology, is about to come true. On the other hand, the distinct electronic and thermal transport properties possessing unique coherency, which may result in higher thermoelectric efficiency, have also been reported. However, exploiting this potential in terms of power generation and cooling applications requires a deeper understanding of these materials in this regard. This perspective study, concentrated with this intention, summarizes thermoelectric research based on transition metal dichalcogenides from a broad perspective and also provides a general evaluation of future theoretical investigations inevitable to shed more light on the physics of electronic and thermal transport in these materials and to lead future experimental research. The suspension nanoparticles in non-Newtonian materials convey different applications in the thermal systems, engineering processes, industrial energy developments, extrusion systems, solar system, etc. It is commonly observed that the thermal properties in the various base materials fluctuated and cannot be assumed to be constants. A decomposition of nanofluids is fluctuated and cannot considered as a constant. The objective of this communication is to inspect the thermal mechanism of non-Newtonian nanofluids due to accelerated frame in view of variable thermal conductivity. The modified mathematical relations for Fourier and Fick theories are utilized to model the problem. The nanofluids contain the microorganisms to ensure the thermal stability. The problem is modeled in nonlinear partial differential system which is further communicated via HAM. The convergent analysis is ensured and later on physical illustrations to problem in view of parameters are discussed. It is observed that thermal phenomenon controls due to mixed convection parameter while increasing impact for Williamson fluid parameter is observed. The magnitude of oscillation of Nusselt number due to Prandtl number is enhanced without any phase difference. The obtained results may convey different engineering applications like extrusion systems, chemical processes, thermal management systems, heating and cooling application, plasma, manufacturing processes. Topological semimetals represent a novel class of quantum materials displaying non‐trivial topological states that host Dirac/Weyl fermions. The intersection of Dirac/Weyl points gives rise to essential properties in a wide range of innovative transport phenomena, including extreme magnetoresistance, high mobilities, weak antilocalization, electron hydrodynamics, and various electro‐optical phenomena. In this study, the electronic, transport, phonon scattering, and interrelationships are explored in single crystals of the topological semimetal HfAs2. It reveals a weak antilocalization effect at low temperatures with high carrier density, which is attributed to perfectly compensated topological bulk and surface states. The angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) results show anisotropic Fermi surfaces and surface states indicative of the topological semimetal, further confirmed by first‐principle density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Moreover, the lattice dynamics in HfAs2 are investigated both with the Raman scattering and density functional theory. The phonon dispersion, density of states, lattice thermal conductivity, and the phonon lifetimes are computed to support the experimental findings. The softening of phonons, the broadening of Raman modes, and the reduction of phonon lifetimes with temperature suggest the enhancement of phonon anharmonicity in this new topological material, which is crucial for boosting the thermoelectric performance of topological semimetals. This study prepared six different ice creams to investigate the effect of yeast protein (YP) on their sensory, rheological, thermal properties and fat destabilisation. Results indicated that YP could improve sensory quality, flow and viscoelastic properties. The thermal property was also positively influenced by YP with a significant decrease in frozen water percentage and an increase in glass transition temperature (P < 0.05). Additionally, the particle size and confocal laser scanning microscopy results illustrated that YP could moderately promote the fat aggregate percentage and size. This study investigates the effect of positive temperature coefficient (PTC) fillers, i.e., barium strontium titanate (BST‐60) and nano hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) fillers, on thermal and dielectric insulation properties of epoxy (EP). The electrical resistivity, DC breakdown strength, space charge, thermal conductivity, thermogravimetric analysis, and glass transition temperature (Tg) of EP composites were measured. Results indicate that, below curie temperature, the EP composites containing 0.5 and 1 wt% of BST and 5 wt% of h‐BN have superior electrical resistivity, breakdown strength, and thermal conductivity. However, above curie temperature, the EP composites containing 2 and 2.5 wt% of BST and 5 wt% of h‐BN have superior insulation properties than the pure EP and other composites. While the thermal properties of EP improve with an increase in h‐BN loading to 10 wt%, its dielectric properties are slightly compromised due to the presence of tiny defects in the composite material. It is hypothesized that the BST‐60 suppresses the negative temperature coefficient effect (NTC) of EP by regulating the electrical resistivity above the curie point, whereas nano h‐BN enhances the thermal conductivity of EP by constructing a heat dissipation path. The proposed mechanism for charge dynamics along with heat conduction‐dissipation explains the fillers' behavior at different temperatures. The use of hybrid reinforcement in polymer composites has been getting attention due to its potential for weight and cost reduction while achieving improved design flexibility for mechanical and thermal properties. In this study, an interply hybridization of epoxy laminates was performed using layers of solid and hollow glass fibers. The structural and thermal performance of the resulting hybrid vascular composites was investigated. All composite parts were manufactured using vacuum‐assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM), following an interply hybridization plan for the stacking sequence of hollow and solid fiber layers. An expected decrease in flexural properties and thermal conductivity was observed for the laminates with completely hollow fibers. On the other hand, hybridization had a positive effect on the laminate properties. It was shown that hybrid vascular composites could be manufactured without a significant reduction in mechanical and thermal performance by a judicious hybridization plan. The optimum hybridization of the laminate achieved a 3.1% increase in the specific flexural strength and a 5.3% decrease in thermal conductivity while containing a vascular network that can be used for active thermal control. In this study, the impact of incorporating cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and carboxylated organo‐montmorillonite (OMMT), separately or in combination, into a UV‐curable wood coating was evaluated for performance enhancement. This study investigated the influence of nanoparticle loading percentage on the mechanical properties and thermal behavior of the coating, as well as the surface properties of digitally printed decorative wood‐based panels. The results indicated that the addition of CNF or OMMT increased the viscosity of the polymer solutions. Although CNF randomly oriented within the matrices, OMMT adhered to the surface of the polymer matrix. Chemical crosslinking was observed between CNF/OMMT and the coating. The addition of CNF and OMMT improved the thermal stability of the neat UV curing coating. The tensile strength of nanocomposite films with a 6 wt% loading of CNF increased significantly from 7.63 MPa to 12.73 MPa compared to pure films. The reinforcing effect of CNF on the tensile performance was significantly better than that of OMMT. Adding CNF to the matte coating slightly improved the clarity of the printed decorative panels. When CNF and OMMT were added together in the coating, there was a synergistic enhancement in the low gloss and high pencil hardness of the panels. This study discussed the impact of pectinase treatment on the properties of starch/PBAT composite, using two types of plant fibers such as coconut coir and bamboo fibers. The fibers underwent pretreatment with pectinase assisted by ultrasonics, and the composite was subsequently produced through hot pressing. The research focused on evaluating the thermal properties, mechanical properties, moisture absorption properties, and microstructure of the resulting composites. The findings revealed that the inclusion of pectinase‐treated plant fibers significantly enhanced the composite's strength. In particular, the bending strength of the composite with 15 wt% bamboo fibers exhibited the highest improvement, registering a 65% increase compared to the composite without added fibers. Additionally, the linear expansion coefficient of the plant fiber composite treated with pectinase was notably lower than that without added fibers. Among these, the linear expansion coefficient of the 15 wt% coir fiber composite decreased by 73.4% in the temperature range of 40–80°C compared to the composite without added fibers. The observed effects were attributed to the pectinase treatment, which proved effective in disrupting the network structure of cell walls, eliminating pectin components from fibers, and facilitating enhanced interaction between the fillers and the polymer matrix. Epoxy resins (EPs) are highly coveted as insulating materials for engineering applications. However, their limited mechanical properties and inadequate thermal conductivity at cryogenic temperatures significantly restrict their range of applications. Herein, a novel approach was introduced for crafting EP composites infused with boron nitride (BN) using hyperbranched polymer (HBP) grafting. The resulting HBP‐BN was uniformly dispersed within the EP and securely bonded to the matrix through robust chemical interactions, significantly improving the property enhancement efficiency of HBP‐BN on EP. Thus, the mechanical strength of EP/HBP‐BN composites was significantly enhanced, with maximum tensile and impact strengths achieved at 6 and 4 wt% HBP‐BN content. These values exceeded those of pure EP by 47% and 22% at room temperature (RT) and increased even more substantially to 72% and 135% at 77 K. Moreover, the composite demonstrated a remarkable 430% improvement in thermal conductivity, reaching 1.1627 W·m−1·K−1, when the HBP‐BN content reached 40 wt%. Simultaneously, EP/HBP‐BN composites exhibit low dielectric permittivity and high volume resistivity, signifying exceptional electrical insulation properties. HBP‐BN substantially enhances the cryogenic properties of EP composites, offering an efficient pathway for the utilization of EPs in engineering applications. Polyamide composites with varying filler concentrations are prepared using the hot melt extrusion method, employing polyamide 56/6 (PA56/6) and modified talc as fillers. Initially, the thermal characteristics of PA56/6 composites (PA56/6‐talc) are examined through thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), encompassing parameters such as melting temperature, crystallinity, and decomposition temperature. The hydrophilicity and barrier properties of PA56/6‐talc are assessed using an optical contact angle meter, a water vapor transmission rate tester, and an oxygen transmission rate tester. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of PA56/6‐talc are also scrutinized. The results indicate that PA56/6 exhibits superior hydrophobic, barrier, and mechanical properties, thereby demonstrating its immense potential in garment fabrics and packaging materials. In this study, a seamless, self‐transformation system of linear thermoplastic polyesters into the sustainable cross‐linked polymers, vitrimers, is demonstrated. The key is the use of polyesters bearing abundant hydroxyl side groups, which are synthesized via the reaction using dithiol molecules bearing ester units and diepoxy molecules. The polymerization reaction progresses efficiently at relatively low temperature due to the click nature of the thiol‐epoxy reaction, which provides the hydroxyl side groups along the polyester chain. The tin catalyst (stannous octoate) is added in the initial polymerization, and the catalyst also works to cross‐link the polyesters via intermolecular transesterification bond exchange simply by heating at high temperatures. By adjusting the degrees of cross‐linking, the mechanical properties as well as the thermal properties are well tuned. The bond exchange can still be activated in the final cross‐linked sample; and thus, the material behaves as vitrimers, exhibiting mechanical recyclability. The application of a new type of hot melt adhesive, where the post‐coating tuning/enhancement of adhesion strength is realized, is also demonstrated. Despite of excellent thermal properties and high sputtering resistance, pure tungsten cannot fully satisfy the requirements for plasma facing materials in future high-duty cycle nuclear fusion reactions due to the coupled extreme environments, including the high thermal loads, plasma exposure, and radiation damage. Here, we demonstrated that tungsten-based composite materials fabricated using spark-plasma sintering (SPS) present promising solutions to these challenges. Through the examination of two model systems, i.e., tungsten-zirconium composite for producing porous tungsten near the surface and dispersoid-strengthened tungsten, we discussed both the strengths and limitations of the SPS-fabricated materials. Our findings point towards the need for future studies aimed at optimizing the SPS process to achieve desired microstructures and effective control of oxygen impurities in the tungsten-based composite materials. Highlights This study aims to enhance the properties of biodegradable plastics by blending poly(lactic acid) (PLA) as well as poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) with silicon carbide (SiC). SiC content was varied from 10 to 40 phr using an internal mixer, maintaining a 90/10 wt% ratio of PLA/PBS as the matrix. The investigation covered mechanical, thermal properties, chemical structure, and composite morphology. The morphological analysis confirmed even dispersion of SiC within the PLA/PBS matrix, possibly due to improved compatibility via a silane coupling treatment. This resulted in the maximum Young's modulus and impact strength with 40 phr SiC, showing a 40% and 76% enhancement, respectively, compared to pure PLA. Concerning thermal properties, SiC addition influenced the mobility of PLA/PBS molecular chains and crystalline structure, leading to an increase in Tg with higher SiC fractions. However, ΔHm of PLA, PBS, and Xc,PLA decreased, which corresponds to reduced viscosity in the PLA/PBS blend and increased mobility with higher SiC content, as indicated by the elevated MFI value. Young's modulus increased by 40% and impact strength by 76% than pure PLA. Even SiC dispersion in PLA/PBS, possibly aided by silane coupling. SiC alters chain mobility, boosts crystalline structure, raising Tg. ΔHm and Xc,PLA reduced, suggests reduced viscosity in PLA/PBS at more SiC. Bone implant biomaterials are among the most used materials for clinical application. Despite significant advances in biocompatibility and osteoconductivity, conventional biomaterials lack the ability to cope with the pathological microenvironment (inflammation, infection, residual tumors, etc.) during bone repair. Semiconductor implant materials have unique electrical, optical, ultrasound, and thermal response properties, which facilitate non‐invasively and controllably dynamic repair of pathological bone defects. In this review, the design and synthesis of a new generation of semiconductor‐driven bone implant materials are summarized, the mechanism of action of semiconductive biomaterials' functional interfaces and the dynamic repair process of bone tissues are discussed, and new strategies for the problems encountered during clinical osseointegration is provided. By applying the high-entropy strategy, one can develop stable mixed oxide by populating a single sublattice with many distinct cations. Two kinds of rare-earth high-entropy hexaaluminates (La 1/5 Nd 1/5 Sm 1/5 Eu 1/5 Gd 1/5)MAl 11 O 19 (M = Mg and Zn) were successfully synthesized, and their mechanical and thermal properties were analyzed. We highlight that the Zn-containing sample displays a significant increase in fracture toughness (2.48 MPa m1/2) and a decrease in thermal conductivity (1500 °C, 1.2 W m−1 K−1) as compared to the Mg-containing sample. The diffusion of fine grains in platelet-like grains observed only in the Zn-containing sample is considered to be responsible for its outstanding mechanical properties. This work demonstrates the excellent thermal-mechanical properties of the Zn-containing sample and indicates the promising use of high-entropy hexaaluminate in the aerospace field acting as thermal barrier coating materials. (KMg)3+ co-doped Sc 2 W 3 O 12 ceramics have been prepared via co-precipitation method. Effects of (KMg)3+ co-doping amount and sintering temperature on the phase constitution, microstructure, morphology, and negative thermal expansion (NTE) performance of K x Mg x Sc 2- x W 3 O 12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.25) ceramics were studied. Results indicate that: Sc3+ cations can be substituted by (KMg)3+ dual-cations and a composition-induced structural phase transition was observed in K x Mg x Sc 2- x W 3 O 12. For x ≤ 0.25, orthorhombic Sc 2 W 3 O 12 gradually changed into hexagonal K x Mg x Sc 2- x W 3 O 12 and coexisted. Single phase K x Mg x Sc 2- x W 3 O 12 with hexagonal symmetry can be prepared for 0.25 < x ≤ 1. When x ≥ 1.25, (KMg)3+ substitution reaches its solid solution limit in Sc 2 W 3 O 12 , and impurity MgWO 4 formed in the samples. As co-doping amount x increased, the NTE performance of the K x Mg x Sc 2- x W 3 O 12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) ceramics gradually enhanced. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of K x Mg x Sc 2- x W 3 O 12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) ceramics enhanced from −2.14 × 10−6 °C−1 to −19.68 × 10−6 °C−1 in 30–700 °C. With the increase of sintering temperature from 800 to 1100 °C, the grains grew up and the density of the K 0.75 Mg 0.75 Sc 1.25 W 3 O 12 ceramics increased as well, and the NTE performance was also improved. The linear CTE of K 0.75 Mg 0.75 Sc 1.25 W 3 O 12 ceramics enhances from −2.15 × 10−6 °C−1 to −14.70 × 10−6 °C−1 in 30–700 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lightweight phenolic matrix composites are highly potential in ablative thermal protective materials for future aerospace vehicles, and hybrid modification is considered as one of effective ways to improve the oxidation and ablation resistance of phenolic matrix. Herein, the co-continuous silica zirconium hybrid phenolic resin (SZRx) was synthesized, which can be used to prepare lightweight ablation resistant aerogel composites by the sol-gel method. The SZRx aerogel showed stable porous structure and excellent hydrophobicity, and the silicon zirconium hybrid greatly improved the high temperature carbon residue and oxidation resistance of phenolic resin. The SZRx aerogel composites also possessed excellent integrated characteristics of heat protection and insulation, with a linear ablation rate as low as 0.032 mm/s and a back temperature below 200 °C. The synergistic effect of silicon and zirconium formed the multiphase ceramic layer (C, SiO 2 , SiC and ZrO 2) with the sea-island-like structure on the surface of the composite material, which can effectively resist high-temperature ablation and aerodynamic exfoliation. This can indicate that silicon zirconium dual element hybrid phenolic resin is the highly competitive matrix for lightweight and ablation resistant composite materials. Strain provides an additional mechanism in tuning the thermal/electrical properties of nanostructures and therefore has triggered lots of interest in recent years. However, experimental research about the strain effect on the thermal conductivity of nanowires is still limited, especially in the low-temperature range, which is important in understanding the physics of strain-induced regulation in thermal conductivity. Here, we present thermal transport measurements of bent silicon carbide nanowires at temperatures ranging from 20 to 300 K. Reduction in thermal conductivity compared to their straight counterparts is observed. More specifically, the relative change is up to 55% at 20 K and descends with temperature, which is due to the inhomogeneous strain-induced phonon scattering. To date, the thermal and electrical properties of three‐phase ceramics containing a boride phase, silicon carbide, and boron carbide have not been studied in detail. Further, the effect of the source of the boride powder has also not been investigated. This study produced three‐phase ceramics containing titanium diboride, silicon carbide, and boron carbide using three different TiB2 sources: commercial powder, TiB2 synthesized by boro/carbothermal reduction, or (Ti,Cr)B2 synthesized by boro/carbothermal reduction to address the effect of the TiB2 source. Ceramics containing synthesized TiB2 or (Ti,Cr)B2 reached >99% relative density, while the ceramic produced from commercial powder reached ∼93% relative density. The addition of Cr reduced both the thermal and electrical conductivities, but had little effect on the Vickers hardness. The (Ti,Cr)B2–SiC–B4C ceramic had a thermal conductivity of ∼33 W/m K, an electrical conductivity of ∼105 S/m, and a hardness of ∼61 GPa at 0.49 N. The highest hardness of ∼66 GPa at a load of 0.49 N was for the TiB2–SiC–B4C ceramic made with synthesized TiB2 powder. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Highlights The development of innovative composite materials through the amalgamation of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with bismuth sodium titanate (BNT) and carbon nanotube (CNT) fillers was investigated. Before the composite fabrication, the fillers' surfaces were treated to enhance their compatibility with the TPU matrix. Hybrid fillers of BNT and CNTs were fabricated by mixing the two types of filler particles through ball milling and subsequently annealing the mixture at 250°C. Melt‐blending and injection molding were utilized to synthesize the composites at 210°C processing temperature. The prepared composites showed significantly enhanced thermal conductivity, dielectric constant, thermal stability, and thermomechanical properties compared with the neat TPU matrix. For instance, the dielectric constant was enhanced by 340% upon the inclusion of 40 wt.% BNT and CNT fillers compared to the neat TPU matrix (40CBNT‐TPU has 13.2). In particular, the inclusion of BNT‐CNT particles in the TPU matrix improved the thermal conductivity of the TPU matrix by 1180% tremendously as compared to neat TPU (40CBNT‐TPU has 2.6 W/(m.K)). Crystalline bismuth sodium titanate (BNT) is fabricated. Degradation of 8 wt.% of the IPDI‐treated BNT proves surface treatment. Dielectric constant (DC) improved by 340% compared to neat TPU. Epoxy film adhesives are typically used in different industries. However, these adhesives suffer from brittleness, low flexibility, and thermal stability problems. In this research, phenolic resin (Novolac) and poly (butyl acrylate‐block‐styrene) were used in the formulation of epoxy film adhesive (Diglycidyl ether bisphenol A) to increase thermal stability and adhesion strength and as the toughening agent, respectively. Alumina nanoparticles were also employed to enhance the mechanical properties. The influence of block copolymer and alumina nano particles was also assessed on the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy‐based film adhesives. The investigation of the mechanical properties of dumbbell‐shaped samples and adhesion strength of the Al‐Al bonded joints were evaluated by tensile, lap shear, and T‐peel tests. The thermal stability of the optimal samples was assessed by thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). SEM analysis was also utilized to study the toughening mechanism. Tensile test of the dumbbell‐shaped samples indicated that the incorporation of 2.5 phr block copolymer and 2 phr alumina nanoparticles enhanced the toughness to 250%. The shear and peel strengths of this sample also exhibited 51% and 76% increase, respectively, showing a remarkable synergistic effect. On the other hand, TGA results revealed that the incorporation of block copolymer improved the thermal stability of the adhesive matrix. The copresence of these two materials also showed a considerable synergistic effect on the thermal stability. The SEM results were also in line with the results of mechanical tests as the crack deviation, crack pinning, and debonding were the most important mechanisms of toughening. Thermally conductive polymeric composites with low dielectric constant are highly promising for the packaging materials in the field of modern communication. Therefore, the synergistic improvement of low dielectric constant and high thermal conductivity has become a current research hotspot. In this work, we propose a one‐step alkylation of boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS) with ultrasonic stratification using 1‐hexanol, and then hot press the films to make Alkyl‐BNNSs orient in the fluorinated polyimide (f‐PI). The resulting Alkyl‐BNNS/f‐PI composite successfully realizes the synergistic improvement of thermal property and dielectric properties, exhibiting a high heat conductivity coefficient of 2.36 Wm−1 K−1 with a filler content of 4.99 wt.%. Moreover, the permittivity and dielectric loss of the film are as low as 1.76 and 0.0065 at 1 MHz, respectively. This work provides a facile strategy for breaking the bottleneck of making polyimide composites simultaneously with high thermal conduction and low dielectric performance. The development of polymer‐based dielectric nanocomposites with superior dielectric properties, heat dissipation, and excellent thermal stability remains a significant challenge for advanced electronic and electrical systems. In this work, boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) and MgAl layered double hydroxide nanosheets (MgAl LDHNS) were utilized as binary fillers and incorporated into polyetherimide (PEI) to fabricate BNNS‐MgAl LDHNS/PEI nanocomposite films by ball milling dispersion and solution casting method. Owing to the exceptional synergistic effect of BNNS with high thermal conductivity and large diameter, combined with MgAl LDHNS with high dielectric constant and small diameter, the dielectric constant and thermal conductivity of the nanocomposite film were enhanced while maintaining low dielectric loss and high breakdown strength. For the BNNS‐MgAl LDHNS/PEI nanocomposite films with filler loading of 12 wt%, the dielectric constant (6.47 at 100 Hz) increased by 73%, the in‐plane thermal conductivity (6.932 W/m·K) and through‐plane thermal conductivity (0.407 W/m·K) increased by 561% and 111%, respectively. And the breakdown strength of the nanocomposite film remains at 82.1 kV/mm. Simultaneously, the thermal stability and mechanical flexibility of the nanocomposite film were maintained. This work presents a promising PEI‐based composite material and offers new insights into the role of two‐dimensional binary fillers with varying sheet diameters in enhancing the properties of polymer‐based composites. Ensuring the stability of composite structures in the marine environment is crucial. The harsh and corrosive nature of marine conditions presents unique challenges, making maintenance a top priority. In this study, the impact of seawater aging on the mechanical, buckling, structural, and thermal properties of glass fiber‐reinforced polymer nanocomposites was investigated. Composites were produced using the VARTM method with 2% nano Al2O3 and 2% nano TiO2. Aging was conducted in a seawater environment at room temperature for 120, 240, and 360 days. Mechanical properties, including tensile, compressive, flexural, impact, and buckling tests, were performed, and water absorption was determined. Structural analysis was carried out using SEM images. The experimental results indicated that the presence of nanoparticles minimized the effect of seawater. TiO2 preserved tensile strength by 10.33%, impact energy by 6.8%, and critical buckling load by 3.06% compared to the pure composite. Al2O3 reduced water absorption to 0.594% and preserved tensile strength by 6.67%, impact energy by 4.02%, and critical buckling load by 2%. Thermal test revealed an increase in thermal conductivity with aging, with the TiO2‐doped composite exhibiting the smallest increase (14.66%). The significance of the obtained results was confirmed through ANOVA analysis. Fluoroelastomer‐based composites with nano‐sized bismuth oxide (B) and/or graphite (G) as fillers were prepared and characterized using FKM type 1 fluoroelastomer as a matrix. The effects of these fillers used singly or in combination on the crosslinking process, mechanical, thermal, dynamic mechanical, electrical, optical, and high‐energy radiation attenuation properties of FKM were investigated. The results showed that graphite significantly increased the moduli E50 (MPa) of FKM/G and FKM/GB composites by 1026% and 1459%, respectively, compared to FKM. On the other hand, bismuth(III) oxide did not affect the stiffness or elongation at break of FKM significantly. Graphite also imparted electrical conductivity to FKM (10−6 Scm−1), which was reduced by bismuth oxide to 10−12 Scm−1. Furthermore, the linear attenuation coefficients (μ), half‐value layer (HVL), and tenth‐value layer (THV) of pure FKM and FKM composites were evaluated using a 137Cs (662 keV) source, revealing that FKM/B and FKM/GB composites show 47.4% and 35.8% higher μ values, respectively, than FKM. Taking into consideration that the attenuation coefficient of FKM is 10 times higher than conventional elastomers such as natural rubber, these results indicate that thin flexible shielding against high electromagnetic radiation can be achieved to protect different sensitive equipment such as electronic devices used in nuclear power plants, gamma radiation facilities, telescopes, and artificial satellites. Highlights The high‐performance PPS/PEEK blends/composites were prepared with different mass ratios using polyphenylene sulphide (Solvey, Ryton®‐R‐4‐230 NA) and polyetherether ketone (Victrex, PEEK450 GL 30). All the blend samples had a single Tg, which revealed good compatibility between PPS and PEEK. The Tm was increased from 279.6 to 339.9°C due to addition of PEEK into PPS. Also, addition of PEEK into the blend increased the impact and tensile strength of the PPS material. The impact strength of the blend, PPS/PEEK (20/80) exhibited the maximum value of 113.64 J/m which was higher than that of PPS (70.66 J/m). The tensile strength of the blend was increased continuously with increasing the content of PEEK from 20 to 80 wt. % and reached the maximum value of 160.64 MPa. Additionally, milled carbon fiber (MCF) was also incorporated in order to obtain high strength PPS/PEEK blends/composites with good dielectric property. The dielectric performance of the composites was observed to increase with MCF content (in the frequency range 5.8 to 18 GHz). This investigation relates to high‐performance PPS/PEEK blends and composites. Incorporation of milled carbon fiber resulted promising dielectric properties. This work describes the preparation and properties of a novel category of thermosetting microwave absorbing composite materials. The composites were prepared by a simple solution casting process, employing high temperature resistant polysilylaryl-enyne (abbreviated as PSAE) resin as matrix and perovskite CaMnO 3 (abbreviated as CMO) ceramic filler as absorbent filler. The microstructure, electromagnetic, wave absorbing and thermal properties of the CMO-PSAE composites were all examined. The results showed that the increasing fraction of CaMnO 3 filler not only densified the microstructure of the composites, but also greatly improved their temperature resistance, thermal conductivity and wave absorption properties. The CMO-PSAE composite doped with 50 vol% CaMnO 3 ceramic filler showed the strongest ability to absorb electromagnetic waves, with an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.16 GHz and a minimum reflection loss is −53.01 dB. Besides, the thermal conductivity of the composite reached 1.106 W/(m·K). Furthermore, this composite material has exceptional thermal resistance, with the highest T d5 reaching 650 °C. Composites with varying doping levels can be used for specific performance needs in practical scenarios. This study investigates spatially resolved phonon-mediated thermal transport across nano-sized grains and grain boundaries (GBs) in 3C-SiC using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. This investigation involves controlling the complete range of inter-grain misorientation tilt angles (θ = 0°–90°) and nanoscale grain sizes (d = 2.18–130.77 nm). The grain boundary energy and interfacial thermal transport are found to be highly θ -sensitive and asymmetric with respect to θ = 45° due to the low symmetry associated with two interpenetrating diatomic SiC fcc lattices. When adjacent grains are tilted at θ = 14.25°, the interfacial heat conduction is highly suppressed compared to other θ values, especially for larger grains. The most stable atomic configuration of the GB region associated with the minimal GB energy results in the highest suppression of heat conduction across the GB interface. Spatially resolved thermal anisotropy reveals a strong GB-mediated nanoscale hydrodynamic phonon Poiseuille effect when heat flows parallel to the GB planes, as shown by our perturbed MD study. With the reduction of d , the intra-grain and inter-GB thermal conductivities decrease due to the enhanced phonon scattering from interfaces, but the difference between these conductivities becomes negligible for the heat flow normal to the GB planes. It is envisioned that nanoscale spatially resolved control of thermal energy will provide useful guidance to engineer nanocrystalline ceramics with tunable interfacial thermal properties. In the context of the extensive application prospect of two-dimensional (2D) chalcogenides, we synthesized layered SnSe2+δ bulks with defects employing a hybrid chemical vapor transport-melt approach. Both the Eg and A1g Raman characteristic peaks in SnSe2+δ are dominated by cubic anharmonicity, coupled with nonlinear temperature dependencies below 140 K. Notably, the reduction in phonon energy observed in these vibrational modes can be ascribed to defect-mediated Raman scattering, irrespective of deficient or excess Se defects. However, the lower consistency in the Raman shifts of the in-plane Eg vibrations compared to the out-of-plane A1g modes suggests that the defects predominantly entail the absence of Se atoms and the substitutions of Sn by Se, delineating a continuum of Se-deficient and Se-enriched compositions. Furthermore, Se defects induce the contraction of the indirect bandgaps, facilitating a transition from medium to narrow bandgap semiconductors in SnSe2+δ, which underscores the tunable nature of the bandgaps through the incorporation of Se defects. These discoveries present an avenue for bandgap engineering and foster a deeper comprehension of the phonon and thermal properties of layered chalcogenides for further advanced technologies.
