Long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (LAI-PrEP) is efficacious in preventing HIV among men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM) and will be soon available in Europe. This study investigated the intention and preference to use LAI-PrEP among MSM in the Netherlands by employing a diffusion of innovation approach. This study had a cross-sectional design nested within a cohort study established in 2017 to understand oral PrEP use among MSM. 309 MSM completed the survey on their awareness, interest, intention, and preference for LAI-PrEP in June 2022. Among them, 83% showed high/very-high interest in, and 63% showed high/very-high intention to use LAI-PrEP. A repeated innovator effect from the early adopters to LAI-PrEP was not observed. Early adopters did not show increased intention to use LAI-PrEP compared to other MSM subgroups, but neither did PrEP-naïve nor PrEP-discontinued MSM. However, among the 218 current oral PrEP users, suboptimal adherence was associated with preference for LAI-PrEP but not with intention to use it. In conclusion, our findings indicated that an effective, available, and affordable LAI-PrEP would be welcomed in the Netherlands, but that its introduction may not significantly expand PrEP coverage. Clinical trials provide evidence that pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) prevents HIV acquisition including through sharing of injection equipment among people who inject drugs (PWID). However, uptake among many populations at risk for HIV has been slow, particularly among PWID. We examined data from the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) from San Francisco in 2022 to measure PrEP uptake and identify factors associated with PrEP awareness among PWID. Of 479 PWID with HIV-negative or unknown HIV status, 54.9% were aware of PrEP, 5.9% had discussed PrEP with a healthcare provider, and 1.5% had used PrEP in the past year. Lack of PrEP awareness was associated with being age 50 years and older (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.40, 95% CI 0.27–0.60), being men who have sex with women (vs. men who have sex with men, aOR 0.47, 95% CI 0.24–0.92), having a disability (aOR 0.58, 95% CI 0.35–0.95), using heroin as their most frequently injected drug (aOR 0.51, 95% CI, 0.34–0.78), not having tested for HIV, HCV, or an STD in the past year (aOR 0.43, 95% CI 0.28–0.64), and not having access to new sterile needles in the past year (aOR 0.28, 95%CI 0.08–1.00). We found negligible change in the awareness and uptake of PrEP among PWID since previously measured in NHBS in 2018. Low PrEP use among PWID may be addressed by increasing provider discussion of PrEP with their PWID patients and clients during routine care, expanding testing for injection-related infections among PWID, and integrating PrEP access into harm reduction programs. Sustained viral suppression is one of the four strategies in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) plan to end the HIV epidemic in the United States. Individuals living with HIV must understand their viral load accurately for this strategy to be effective. We conducted cross-sectional analyses using baseline data from the NNHIV longitudinal study among men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV in New York City to identify factors associated with concordant knowledge between self-reported and lab-confirmed viral load. Of 164 Black and/or Latine participants, 67% (n = 110) reported that their viral load was undetectable, however lab tests showed only 44% (n = 72) had an undetectable viral load (<20 copies/ml). Overall, 62% of the sample (n = 102) had concordant HIV viral load knowledge (agreement of self-reported and lab viral load). In multivariable regression, those with unstable housing (PR = 0.52, 0.30-0.92) and those who had higher levels of beliefs of racism in medicine scale (PR = 0.76, 0.59–0.97) were less likely to have concordant knowledge. Our study underscores the need for implementing measures to improve viral load knowledge, U = U messaging, and strategies to achieve and maintain undetectable viral load status to reduce the burden of HIV at the population level. Objectives: We conducted a survey to evaluate HIV pre‐exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) practices in a European clinical research network on HIV, hepatitis, and global infectious diseases (NEAT ID). Methods: An online survey comprising 22 questions was sent via a secure electronic tool to the investigating physician of each of the 342 NEAT ID study centres across 15 European countries in November 2020. Results: In total, 50 sites from 12 countries responded (15% response rate). Most sites were in Western Europe, two were in Poland, and one was in Hungary. Of the responding sites, 45 provided PrEP services for a total of 27 416 PrEP users, with 1361 new PrEP initiators each month. These centres supplied PrEP for men who have sex with men (100%), people who inject drugs (84%), sex workers (84%), women (62%), and transgender women (31%). PrEP persistence after 1 year was >90%, 75%–90%, and 40%–75% in 17, 24, and 4 centres, respectively. In total, 32/45 (71%) centres reported strong community‐based organization commitment at their site, and 15/45 (33%) centres developed task‐shifting processes to deliver PrEP through nurses (11/15), pharmacists (5/15), and key‐population peers (2/15). The biggest barriers to implementation of PrEP were low awareness of and knowledge about PrEP (47%), unwillingness to disclose sexual identity or at‐risk behaviour (36%), and lack of administrative support (29%). Of the 45 centres, 32 (71%) have already been involved in PrEP research and 43 (96%) were interested in participating in such studies. Conclusions: The few NEAT ID centres that responded to the survey showed disparities in PrEP deployment and practices despite a common interest in participating in research in this field. Despite PrEP being available and free of charge in France, a gap remains between the estimated number of men who have sex with men (MSM) with high-risk exposure to HIV and the number of MSM PrEP users. The objective of this study is to identify factors associated with non-intention to use PrEP among PrEP-eligible and PrEP-aware MSM in France, "non-intenders". European MSM Internet Survey (EMIS)-2017 was a cross-sectional survey conducted among MSM concerning their HIV prevention needs. Logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with "non-intenders". Compared to PrEP users, factors associated with non-intention to use PrEP were: age (aOR[95%CI] = 3.80[2.21;6.53]); not being vaccinated against hepatitis B (2.20[1.45;3.34]); self-efficacy (1.84[1.29;2.60]); lower knowledge about on-demand PrEP (11.48[7.37;17.87]) and daily PrEP (2.58[1.27;5.25]); not having a PrEP discussion at a hospital (12.39[8.90;17.27]) or at a community service/drop-in (4.93[3.48;6.97]); living in a department with few PrEP access points (1.70[1.10;2.63]). On-demand PrEP may meet the prevention needs of "non-intenders" who have lower HIV risk perception. Increasing communication from health providers and community health workers to all MSM is needed. Latinx men who have sex with men (MSM) are an at-risk population for new HIV diagnoses. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a suite of biomedical approaches to prevent HIV infection. Latinx MSM are less likely to take PrEP compared to non-Latinx White MSM. This qualitative study identified interpersonal- and community-level barriers and facilitators of PrEP among young adult Latinx MSM. Using stratified purposeful sampling, 27 Latinx men, ages 19–29 years and living in a US-Mexico border region, completed self-report demographic surveys and participated in semi-structured in-depth interviews assessing barriers and facilitators to PrEP. Directed content analysis was used to identify both a priori and emerging themes. Most participants reported that other people, including peers, friends, partners, and health care providers were both supportive and discouraging of PrEP use. Participants' intersectional identities as members of both Latinx and LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) communities both hindered and facilitated PrEP use. Resumen: Los hombres latinx que tienen sexo con hombres (latinx HSH) son una población en riesgo para nuevos diagnósticos de VIH. La profilaxis preexposición (PrEP) es un conjunto de propuestas biomédicas para prevenir la infección por VIH. HIV prevention programs typically focus on changing individuals' risk behaviors, often without considering the socioecological factors that can moderate this risk. We characterized HIV risk among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Indonesia (n = 1314) using latent class analysis and used multinomial logistic regression to identify latent class relationships with demographics, social/sexual networks, and community-level socioecological indicators of HIV risk. Three HIV risk latent classes were identified—"Sexually Moderate" (n = 333), "Sexual Explorative" (n = 575), and "Navigating Complexities" (n = 406). Using "Sexually Moderate" (lowest risk) as the reference group, MSM in the "Sexual Explorative" class had additional social/sexual network-level risks (meeting partner(s) using both online and offline methods [RR = 3.8; 95%CI 1.7–8.6] or general social media and gay-specific online platforms [RR = 2.6; 95%CI 1.9–3.6] to meet partners, group sex [RR = 10.9; 95%CI 4.5–25.4], transactional sex [RR = 1.6; 95%CI 1.2–2.2]), and community-level risks (experiencing homosexual-related assaults [RR = 1.4; 95%CI 1.1–1.9]). MSM in the "Navigating Complexities" class had additional social/sexual network-level risks (low social support [RR = 1.6; 95%CI 1.1–2.5], less disclosure of their sexuality [RR = 1.4; 95%CI 1.0–1.9]) and community-level risks (higher internalized homonegativity scores [RR = 1.2; 95%CI 1.1–1.4], ever experiencing homosexual-related assaults [RR = 1.4:95%CI 1.1–1.9], less exposure to HIV/STI health promotion [RR = 0.7; 95%CI 0.5–0.9], attending STI-related services in the past 6 months [RR = 0.6; 95%CI 0.4–0.8]). Co-occurring individual and socioecological risk recommend holistic HIV prevention strategies tailored to consider the social and structural conditions of MSM in Indonesia are needed. HIV prevention for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) and transgender women (TGW) is critical to reducing health disparities and population HIV prevalence. To understand if different types of stigma impact engagement with HIV prevention services, we assessed associations between stigmas and use of HIV prevention services offered through an HIV prevention intervention. This analysis included 201 GBMSM and TGW enrolled in a prospective cohort offering a package of HIV prevention interventions. Participants completed a baseline survey that included four domains of sexual identity/behavior stigma, HIV-related stigma, and healthcare stigma. Impact of stigma on PrEP uptake and the number of drop-in visits was assessed. No domain of stigma was associated with PrEP uptake. In bivariate analysis, increased enacted sexual identity stigma increased number of drop-in visits. In a logistic regression analysis constrained to sexual identity stigma, enacted stigma was associated with increased drop-in visits (aIRR = 1.30, [95% CI: 1.02, 1.65]). Participants reporting higher enacted stigma were modestly more likely to attend additional services and have contact with the study clinics and staff. GBMSM and TGW with higher levels of enacted stigma may seek out sensitized care after negative experiences in their communities or other healthcare settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: We aim to estimate the number of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) users among men having sex with men (MSM) in Germany from 2017 through 2020, and analyse if PrEP needs expressed in 2017 might have been met by the expansion of PrEP until 2020. Subject and methods: We estimated the number of PrEP users by using drug prescription data and information on on-demand/intermittent PrEP use from online surveys to determine the proportion of on-demand/intermittent and daily PrEP use as well as the average number of PrEP pills used. The number of MSM in need of PrEP in 2017 was estimated based on four groups defined among respondents to a large online survey, combining respondents with PrEP use intention and respondents indicating substantial sexual risks. The size of each group was estimated based on self-selection biases. MSM with PrEP need in 2017 were compared with the estimated number of persons taking PrEP by June 2020. Results: We estimated a total of 15,600 to 21,600 PrEP users in Germany by the end of June 2020, corresponding to 40–55% of men with PrEP use intention in 2017. A correlation between the regional distribution of PrEP use intention in 11/2017 and actual PrEP use by 06/2020 suggested an unequal regional distribution of unsatisfied needs. The number of men with unmet PrEP needs ranged between 27,500 and 93,000 in 06/2020. Conclusion: PrEP use in Germany has increased considerably between 10/2017 and 06/2020, but large regional inequalities persist. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective medicine preventing HIV transmission. This study designs and tests normative messages that promote PrEP-related information seeking among men who have sex with men (MSM) (n = 410). Two factors were manipulated in normative messaging: type of norm (descriptive ["people do"] vs. injunctive ["people should"]) and type of pronoun (individual "you" vs. collective "we"). The results favored the use of descriptive normative appeal and collective pronouns in normative message design. For health campaigns that target MSM's PrEP-related behaviors, this study suggests that descriptive norms may increase behavioral changes whereas injunctive norms may appear intrusive and backfire. At the same time, using inclusive agency assignment (e.g., pronouns) may encourage HIV prevention through provoking solidarity considerations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The recent approval of long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) as PrEP for HIV prevention could be an attractive alternative for MSM, particularly among those who face barriers to adherence using the oral pill. This study reports on the awareness of long-acting injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP) and factors associated with interest in LAI-PrEP use among a nationwide sample of MSM in Malaysia. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted between August and September 2021 to explore perspectives on PrEP modalities among Malaysian MSM (N = 870). Convenience sampling was used to recruit participants using ads on two platforms hornet and facebook. While only 9.1% of the study participants were aware of LAI-PrEP, the majority had heard of oral PrEP (80.9%). After giving a description of it, a large majority (86.6%) expressed interest in using it if made accessible. Those who had a prior history of HIV testing (aOR = 1.9; 95% CI = 1.2–3.2) were more likely to use LAI-PrEP. Interestingly, despite the concerns related to potential high cost (aOR = 3.4; 95% CI = 2.1–5.5) and long-term side effects (aOR = 1.9; 95% CI = 1.2–3.1), the majority of the participants were interested in using LAI-PrEP. Those who were afraid of (or disliked) syringes were less interested in using it (aOR = 0.2; 95% CI; 0.1–0.4). In the recent context that LAI-PrEP was shown to be safe and effective at preventing HIV, our results indicate its potential relevance as an additional PrEP option that could accelerate the uptake and scale-up of PrEP. However, it is crucial to conduct future research urgently to improve the understanding of strategies that could enhance the accessibility, acceptability, and affordability of LAI-PrEP for MSM in low- and middle-income countries, including Malaysia. HIV self-testing (HIVST) is an effective method to expand HIV testing coverage worldwide. We analyze the results of HIVST and sexual behaviors of first-time testers among Men who have sex with men (MSM) who participated in a secondary distribution of HIVST kits. A total of 589 participants were recruited, including 173 first-time testers and 416 non-first-time testers. The first-time testers were mainly of Han ethnicity (aOR 1.88, 95% CI 1.10, 3.24), more likely to be HIV positive (aOR 7.18, 95% CI 2.37, 21.72), and had higher income (aOR 2.01, 95% CI 1.10, 3.69). Both groups were less likely to have anal sex with male partners (χ2: 146.24, P < 0.01), (χ2: 582.72, P < 0.01) or have sex with female partners (χ2: 19.01, P < 0.01), (χ2: 35.74, P < 0.01) after HIVST. Starting and stopping oral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in a way that compromises its effectiveness should be avoided. Between September 2020 and June 2021, we assessed self-perceived and actual knowledge of effectively starting and stopping oral PrEP through an online survey among 206 PrEP users assigned male at birth in Belgium. We examined associations between incorrect start-and-stop knowledge and socio-demographics, sexual behaviour and PrEP use, using bi- and multi-variable logistic regression. The majority of men (84.9%) perceived their start-and-stop knowledge as 'very good', but only 62.1% of all men correctly indicated how to effectively start and stop with PrEP. Using PrEP daily [adjusted OR 2.12, 95% CI (1.06–4.28), p = 0.034] was significantly associated with incorrect start-and-stop knowledge. The discovery that people with an undetectable HIV viral load are unable to transmit the virus to sex partners (U = U) has ushered in a new era in HIV care. As a result of this discovery, treatment as prevention (TasP) has become a powerful tool toward ending the epidemic. However, despite its sound scientific basis, many communities affected by HIV face barriers toward adopting TasP as a complete HIV prevention strategy. In addition, most research to date has only focused on TasP in the context of committed monogamous partnerships. To identify barriers to TasP adoption among some of those most affected by HIV, we conducted in-depth qualitative interviews with 62 sexual and gender minority individuals of varying serostatuses. Participants were identified from the results of an online survey, where those who indicated at least some awareness of TasP were invited to partake in a follow-up interview. Interviews were thematically coded to identify emergent themes relating to TasP adoption. Seven primary barriers emerged from data analysis pertaining to TasP science, internalized beliefs about HIV safety, and interactional dynamics between partners: (1) unfamiliarity with TasP science, (2) perceived limitations of TasP science, (3) difficulty changing understanding of "safe sex," (4) unwillingness to rely on partners' reports of being undetectable, (5) persistent HIV stigma, (6) less difficulty finding serosimilar partners, and (7) difficulty incorporating TasP into casual encounters. Together, these barriers confirm the existing findings about TasP adoption, and extend the literature by identifying barriers beyond a lack of education and outside of monogamous contexts. We assessed pathways between sexual minority stigma and condomless anal intercourse (CAI) among two samples of Black South African men who have sex with other men (MSM). Two cross-sectional surveys were conducted in Tshwane, South Africa; one among 199 Black MSM and another among 480 Black MSM. Men reported on external and internalized experiences of sexual minority stigma, mental health, alcohol use, information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model constructs, and CAI. Structural equation modeling was used to test whether external and internalized stigma were directly and indirectly associated with CAI. In both studies, external stigma and internalized stigma were associated with CAI through IMB model constructs. These results suggest a pathway through which stigma contributes to HIV risk. For HIV prevention efforts to be effective, strengthening safer sex motivation and thus decreasing sexual risk behavior likely requires reducing sexual minority stigma that MSM experience and internalize. HIV self-testing (HIVST) is recommended as a promising way to increase HIV testing uptake among MSM. MSM sometimes used HIVST kits together with their sexual partners or friends. However, limited data was reported on MSM's testing together behaviors with sexual partners and non-sexual contacts. Data were collected among MSM in China from June 2018 to June 2019. Eligible participants (referred to as "index participants") finished a baseline survey and applied for HIVST kits. They were encouraged to distribute the kits to other people (referred to as "alters"). Index participants finished a 3-month follow-up survey on the distribution and usage of the kits. Alters finished an online survey on the usage of HIVST kits after they returned the photographed testing results. Results were reported based on index participants and alters, respectively. Based on follow-up data, 138 index participants successfully motivated others for HIVST, most of them (77.5%) tested together with at least one alter. Around half of alters (52.3%) reported testing together with index participants. Index participants distributed more HIVST kits to friends than sexual partners. MSM who had ever tested for HIV were more likely to test together. Our study demonstrated that the testing together behaviors during HIVST distribution among sexual partners and social network contacts were common. The cost of HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication and care is a key barrier to PrEP use. Using population-based surveys and published information, we estimated the number of people with uncovered costs for PrEP care among US adults with PrEP indications, stratified by HIV transmission risk group, insurance status, and income. Accounting for existing PrEP payer mechanisms, we estimated annual uncovered costs for PrEP medication, clinical visits, and laboratory testing based on the 2021 PrEP clinical practice guideline. Of 1.2 million US adults with PrEP indications in 2018, we estimated that 49,860 (4 percent) of them had PrEP-related uncovered costs, including 32,350 men who have sex with men, 7,600 heterosexual women, 5,070 heterosexual men, and 4,840 people who inject drugs. Of those 49,860 people with uncovered costs, 3,160 (6 percent) incurred $18.9 million in uncovered costs for PrEP medication, clinical visits, and lab testing, and 46,700 (94 percent) incurred $83.5 million in uncovered costs for only clinical visits and lab testing. The total annual uncovered costs for adults with PrEP indications were $102.4 million in 2018. The proportion of people with uncovered costs for PrEP is less than 5 percent among adults with PrEP indications, but the magnitude of costs is significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the recent endorsement of PrEP by the Chinese government, research is urgently needed to better understand factors impacting PrEP uptake among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in China. This study examined willingness to use PrEP for HIV prevention among GBMSM in China through structural equation modeling. We examined the relationship among PrEP-related attitudes, subjective norms, PrEP-related knowledge and beliefs about medicines and willingness to use PrEP. The analysis showed a good fit between the data and both the measurement model (RMSEA = 0.060) and structural model (RMSEA = 0.054). Knowledge, attitudes, and subjective norms were significantly related to intention to use PrEP, whereas the effect of general beliefs about medicines was insignificant. These effect mechanisms point to the importance of designing interventions to support PrEP uptake that target knowledge, enhance positive attitudes about PrEP within social networks, and build positive social norms around PrEP among sexually active GBMSM. Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) is a key population for preventing HIV in China, yet pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is not widely accepted in this population. The objective of this manuscript was to assessed the barriers in the acknowledgement and uptake focusing the demand side. Methods: An online questionnaire survey was conducted from December 2018 to January 2019. All participants were required to scan two-dimensional code which was the online crowdsourcing survey platform to complete the electronic questionnaire anonymously. Results: Among 1915 MSM from thirty-four cities of China, 512 (26.7%) versus 1617 (84.4%) had an objective or subjective need of PrEP, respectively. One hundred and six (5.5%) reported affordability and only 23 (1.2%) had ever taken it. Age, living alone and occupation were associated with the objective needs. Age, income, sexual behavior were associated with actual usage. The participants who they had objective need to use PrEP are the population which we should focus on. Conclusion: A wide disconnect exists among the objective need, willingness, affordability and uptake of PrEP. Cost was the most prevalent barrier, accounting for 78.22% of individuals who needed and wished for PrEP but finally failed to receive it. The COVID-19 pandemic has created additional barriers to accessing sexual health services among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in China. Yet, little is known about the frequency of HIV testing and how GBMSM get tested during the pandemic. We surveyed an online sample of GBMSM recruited on a gay networking app in China. Among 956 sexually active, 70.1% had received an HIV test in the past 6 months. Among these, 61.0% reported having undergone HIV self-testing (HIVST). Young GBMSM aged 18–24 years old were more likely to receive a recent HIV test, and the number of sexual partners was associated with recent HIV testing [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.14, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.03–1.20]. Among those who had a recent HIV test, young GBMSM and those who had anal sex with both main partner and casual partners were more likely to utilize HIVST (AOR = 1.83, 95% CI: 1.16–2.84), as well as GBMSM who did not use a condom the last time engaged in anal sex (AOR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.06–2.34). Among GBMSM never tested for HIV, a majority perceived low risk of HIV, while some suggested that they did not know where to get tested or they were scared of finding out they had HIV. HIVST has the potential to fill the gap in HIV testing among Chinese GBMSM, and future HIV testing programs should emphasize HIV education, accurate information dissertation, and timely point-to-care services. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective HIV prevention intervention; however, most studies of PrEP adherence and persistence among men who have sex with men (MSM) have been conducted with MSM who live in urban areas. The experiences of PrEP-using MSM in non-urban areas might differ due to increased barriers to culturally competent care. We examined similarities and differences among urban and non-urban PrEP-using MSM in the southern United States, the region with the highest number of annual HIV diagnoses. We surveyed a total of 78 (n = 25 non-urban, n = 53 urban) PrEP-using MSM. Self-reported adherence was high across all participants. No differences were observed with respect to PrEP persistence, source of PrEP, or reasons for PrEP initiation. Fewer non-urban than urban men reported STI testing in the past 12 months. Overall, we observed few differences comparing urban and non-urban PrEP-using MSM. Additional studies are needed to describe differences in PrEP initiation comparing urban and non-urban MSM. Social distancing including lockdowns are acceptable measures to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this cross sectional study, we surveyed the impact of these measurements on sexual behavior and pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP) use among MSM. A digital questionnaire was distributed via social media and geographically based meeting applications after the first lockdown (March–April 2020). 1194 MSM responded, 91.8% were HIV negative, 19.4% of them used PrEP regularly, and 8.2% were people living with HIV (PLWH). Median age was 34.5 years. 54.4% reported that they kept strictly social distancing guidelines. Low education, hazardous sexual behavior, moderate/severe, and depression predicted low compliance with social distancing guidelines. 66.7% reported a significant decrease in the number of casual sex partners. 55% of those who took PrEP reduced their PrEP intake. Many of the PLWH and PrEP users reduced their medical follow-up. In light of the continuous outbreak and the risk of further outbreaks in the future consideration should be given to provide continuing access to HIV and sexual health clinics. Structural stigma shapes men who have sex with men's (MSM's) mental health and sexual behaviours. The aim of this study was to examine how stigmatizing policies interact with downstream anxiety/depression and sexual behaviours to structurally pattern HIV disparities among European MSM. We conducted a secondary data analysis of the European Men-who-have-sex-with-men Internet Survey (EMIS) from 2017. We included a total of 98,600 participants living in 39 European countries. We used the Rainbow Index, a score given to countries based on their sexual and gender minority policies as the predictor of HIV diagnosis. We conducted adjusted random intercept and slope multi-level logistic regressions. In adjusted models, higher Rainbow Index scores was associated with lower predictive probabilities of diagnosed HIV, regardless of the number of condomless intercourse partners. The predictive probability of HIV diagnosis was also lower, regardless of severity of anxiety/depression, where the Rainbow Index score was better. Although the HIV epidemic in Athens, Greece has reemerged and spread in men who have sex with men (MSM), state-supported PrEP programs have not been instituted. A PrEP intervention was implemented building upon an existing network cohort of MSM (308 participants; 1212 network members). A PrEP intervention cohort of 106 participants was selected based upon sex behaviors. Individual, partner, and network characteristics were compared between the cohorts. The PrEP cohort members were more highly connected and in more influential positions in the network than their peers. Further, their sexual network connections' behaviors increased their vulnerability to HIV infection relative to the rest of the network's sex partners. This included greater stimulant use (24.2% vs 7.0%; χ2 = 28.2; p < 0.001), greater rates of at least weekly condomless sex (OR = 2.7; 95% CI 2.1–3.5; χ2 = 59.2; p < 0.001) and at least weekly use of drugs or alcohol during sex (OR = 3.4; 95% CI 2.6–4.3; χ2 = 89.7; p < 0.001). Finally the PrEP cohort's social networks showed similarly increased vulnerability to seroconversion, including greater rates of injection drug use (4.1% vs 0.5%; χ2 = 3.9; p = 0.04), greater stimulant use (33.6% vs 14.6%; χ2 = 16.9, p < 0.001), and higher rates of recent STIs (21.6% vs 13.1%; χ2 = 4.4; p = 0.04). Objectives: Accumulating evidence suggests that there may be differences in sexual behaviors, condom use, and HIV prevention service utilization (e.g., HIV testing, PrEP use) between gay and bisexual men, but this remains under-explored, especially among gay and bisexual men in China. Methods: We surveyed 4,142 gay and bisexual men on a geosocial networking app in China. Results: In adjusted model, bisexual men were less likely to have received HIV testing in their lifetime (AOR =.62, 95% CI [.53,.72]) or to have received a recent HIV test (AOR =.78, 95% CI [.68,.90]). Conversely, among those who reported having had anal sex in the past six months, bisexual men were more likely to report consistent condom use than gay men (OR = 1.38, 95% CI [1.17, 1.62]). Compared with gay men, bisexual men were significantly less likely to be aware of PrEP (AOR =.62, 95% CI [.52,.74]) and significantly less willing to use PrEP (AOR =.58, 95% CI [.46,.73]). Conclusions: Tailored HIV prevention interventions are needed to address bisexual men's needs in the context of the unique sociocultural influences on sexual behavior in China. We examined PrEP awareness, willingness to take it and early PrEP use among men who have sex with men (MSM) at increased risk of HIV acquisition in Belgium. This analysis of the Belgian EMIS online data of 2017–2018 adopts a cascade approach, with the following steps quantified as conditional probabilities: being eligible for, aware of, willing to take PrEP, and PrEP use. One out of three MSM was eligible to use PrEP according to the operationalized Belgian reimbursement criteria. PrEP awareness was lower among socioeconomically vulnerable MSM, MSM living outside large cities, MSM who were less open about their sexuality and those who did not identify as gay or homosexual. A lack of PrEP knowledge, a higher self-efficacy regarding safe sex, having a steady partner and reporting more symptoms of depression were related to unwillingness to use PrEP. Community-clinic linkages may help communities increase HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake. Referrals from community-based organizations may be particularly important for linking Black men who have sex with men (MSM) to PrEP. This study describes PrEP referral and HIV/STI prevention networks among organizations that serve MSM in Houston, TX (N = 40), and Chicago, IL (N = 28), and compares network positions of organizations based on percentage of Black/African American clients. A majority of organizations conducted PrEP awareness/promotion activities, but fewer made PrEP referrals, with little overlap between the collaboration and referral networks. The networks tended to have a densely connected core group of organizations and more a peripheral group of organizations linking into the core with relatively few times among themselves; this core/periphery structure is efficient, but vulnerable to disruptions. The percentage of Black/African American clients organizations served was not related to most measures of network centrality. However, in Houston's collaboration network, higher Black-serving organizations tended not to hold as influential positions for controlling communications or flows of resources. The findings indicate a potential to leverage collaborations into PrEP referral pathways to enhance PrEP promotion efforts and identify opportunities to address racial disparities in PrEP uptake. Recent evidence shows that circumcision is associated with lower HIV prevalence among MSM. We assessed the acceptability of circumcision for preventing HIV and that of Shang Ring circumcision (SRC) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. 538 adult MSM were recruited from six cities in China between January and March 2019. Participants were surveyed by an online, self-administered questionnaire. The acceptability of circumcision was assessed before and after the potential protective effect of circumcision against HIV was informed, and subsequently men's willingness to undergo SRC was assessed. The level of circumcision was 16.4%. Of 450 uncircumcised MSM, their willingness to be circumcised in the following six months increased significantly from 32.2% to 55.6% after the information session. Three quarters of men who were willing to undergo circumcision accepted SRC. MSM who perceived that circumcision could maintain genital hygiene were more likely to accept circumcision after the information session, whereas those who regarded circumcision as an embarrassing surgery were disinclined to be circumcised. The low circumcision rate, along with its high acceptability in Chinese MSM, suggests a great potential benefit of circumcision intervention if proved effective. Objective: The Targeted Highly Effective Interventions to Reverse the HIV Epidemic (THRIVE) demonstration project created collaboratives of health departments, community-based organizations, and clinical partners to improve HIV prevention services for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) of color. We administered an online survey from September 2018 through February 2019 to assess the collaboratives. Methods: We used a Likert scale to measure agreement on collaborative characteristics. We used Fisher exact tests to compare success ratings by health department employment and funding status. We created a radar chart to compare the percentage agreement on key characteristics of the most and least successful collaboratives. We used a general inductive approach in the qualitative analysis of open-ended question responses. Results: Of 262 survey recipients, 133 responded (51%); 49 (37%) respondents were from health departments. Most respondents (≥70%) agreed that their collaborative is diverse, cooperates, meets regularly, has realistic goals, has effective leadership, and has effective communication. Most respondents (87%) rated their collaborative as successful in implementing HIV prevention services for MSM and TGW of color. Comparison of the most and least successful collaborative found the greatest difference in respondent agreement in the presence of effective leadership, communication, and adequate resources. The most commonly cited challenge in the open-ended questions was inadequate resources. The most commonly cited success was increased provision of services, particularly preexposure prophylaxis. HIV self-testing (HIVST) has been found to have high acceptability among men who have sex with men (MSM) internationally and might contribute to increase testing frequencies, but many countries, including Sweden, lack policies for using HIVST. To examine interest to use and willingness to pay for HIVST, and associated factors, among MSM attending HIV testing venues in Sweden. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from a self-administered survey, consisting of 33 questions, collected at six HIV testing venues in Sweden in 2018. The sample consisted of sexually active men who have sex with men, aged ≥ 18 years, and not diagnosed with HIV. Data were analyzed descriptively and by univariable and multivariable logistic regression. Among 663 participants (median age 33 years), 436 respondents (65.8%) expressed interest to use HIVST. Among those interested, less than half, 205 (47.0%), were willing to pay for HIVST. Being interested in HIVST was found to be negatively associated with being in the 55 years or older age group (AOR 0.31, CI 0.14–0.71), and having had syphilis, rectal chlamydia, or rectal gonorrhea in the preceding 12 months (AOR 0.56, CI 0.32–0.99). In the sample of MSM interested in HIVST, willingness to pay was positively associated with being in the age groups 35–44 years (AOR 2.94, CI 1.40–6.21), 45–54 years (AOR 2.82, CI 1.16–6.90), and 55 years or above (AOR 3.90, CI 1.19–12.81), and negatively associated with being single (AOR 0.56, CI 0.36–0.88). This study found high interest for HIVST in a sample of MSM in Sweden. However, HIVST offered at a cost is likely to negatively affect uptake among MSM broadly, compared with free availability. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective tool to prevent HIV and has recently been approved in Taiwan. However, more research regarding PrEP acceptability and effective PrEP implementation is needed in Taiwan. Little is known about the intention to use PrEP and salient psychosocial factors among men who have sex with men (MSM). The purpose of this study was to examine health beliefs linked to PrEP use intention among young MSM (YMSM) in Taiwan. Using the Health Belief Model (HBM) as a guiding framework, an anonymous online survey was used to collect data from participants who were recruited using multiple channels to ensure diversity. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to examine the health beliefs linked to high PrEP use intention. Data from 1329 HIV-negative YMSM were analyzed; 488 (36.7%) were classified as having high PrEP use intention, which was found to be associated with having high perceived susceptibility to HIV infection [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.11], high perceived benefits of PrEP use (AOR = 2.14), high self-efficacy in PrEP use (AOR = 4.19), and many cues to action concerning PrEP use (AOR = 1.49). YMSM with high perceived barriers to PrEP use (AOR = 0.64) had lower PrEP use intention. In addition, the effects of HBM constructs and specific health beliefs on PrEP use intention varied by preferred penile–anal sexual role. South African youth are one of the highest risk groups, globally, for HIV acquisition. Identifying prevention methods that will be acceptable and used consistently is an urgent priority. Engaging youth as co-designers is a targeted strategy to achieve the goal of developing prevention products that meet youth's needs. The iPrevent study engaged male and female youth, aged 18–24 years, in Cape Town, South Africa, to co-design critical aspects of the research project aimed at understanding youth preferences for long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). An established advisory board of young men who have sex with men, women who have sex with men and men-who-have-sex-with-men, as well as a purposively selected youth cohort were involved in film-making, survey design and interpretation of study results. Convening youth as co-designers had several impacts on iPrevent's approach and outputs. Youth input informed the use of local actors in the study's educational video, creating a "real-world" community setting that meaningfully situated the content. Their participation led to the successful development of survey language and images to explain scientific concepts in terms that would resonate (e.g. chili peppers to express product-associated pain). Lastly, their insight reviewing results led to clarifications around misinterpretations of risk perception and confirmed youth's desires for products that fit into their goals around family, future happiness and education. The engagement of youth through creative, interactive activities contributed to adaptations of the study design, research implementation and understanding of results. African-American men who have sex with men (MSM) with HIV are more likely to have unsuppressed viral load than other racial/ethnic groups. HPTN 065 Study, completed in 2015, consisted of five interconnected study components conducted at clinics in Bronx, New York and Washington, D.C. Participants completed surveys with questions related to socio-demographic factors and individual-level HIV medication adherence barriers, such as forgetting doses or fear of taking medications in front of others. Descriptive analyses and ordinal logistic regression with robust standard errors were conducted. Fifty-seven per cent of participants (N = 359) were African-American (57.1%) and roughly 40% had no more than a high school education. Mean age was 48 years. Overall, MSM with viral load suppression identified fewer individual-level barriers to adherence (p <.01) and individuals with depressive symptoms identified a greater number of barriers to adherence (p <.01). Compared to African-Americans, white MSM had a lower likelihood of identifying barriers to adherence (p <.05). Findings suggest that individual-level barriers to HIV medication adherence are common among MSM, irrespective of time since diagnosis and viral suppression. Race-specific interventions which address intersectional stigma are needed to improve health outcomes among African-American MSM, who bear much of the burden of poor HIV outcomes in the United States. Few studies have examined changes in sexual behaviour following HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) initiation among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBM) in relationships. In a national, online, prospective study of GBM in Australia, we compared sexual behaviours prior to and after PrEP initiation among HIV-negative and unknown-HIV-status men (recruited 2014–2017) not taking PrEP at baseline and who completed at least one six-monthly follow-up by July 2018. Among men in relationships who did not initiate PrEP (n = 339), we compared their most recent survey to their prior one, while among men in relationships who initiated PrEP (n = 81), we compared follow-ups before and after PrEP initiation. Among the 81 PrEP-initiators who were in a relationship both before and after initiation, the proportion reporting their regular partner was on PrEP increased from 8.3 to 44.4% (p < 0.001) and the proportion reporting receptive CLAIC increased from 27.2 to 44.4% (p = 0.009). Overall, men who initiated PrEP were more likely to be in a relationship with a partner on PrEP, and it appeared they started PrEP around the same time. Receptive CLAIC also became more common. Background The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends comprehensive sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening every 3–6 months for men who have sex with men (MSM) using human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The gaps between these recommendations and clinical practice by region have not been quantified. Methods We used survey data collected from the internet-based ARTnet study between 2017 and 2019 on STI screening among MSM across the United States, stratified by current, prior, and never PrEP use. Poisson regression models with robust error variance were used to model factors, including residence in the Southeast, associated with consistent ("always" or "sometimes") exposure site-specific STI screening during PrEP care. Results Of 3259 HIV-negative MSM, 19% were currently using PrEP, 6% had used PrEP in the past, and 75% had never used PrEP. Among ever PrEP users, 87%, 78%, 57%, and 64% reported consistent screening for STIs by blood sample, urine sample or urethral swab, rectal swab, or pharyngeal swab, respectively, during PrEP care. Compared to PrEP users in all other regions, PrEP users in the Southeast were significantly less likely to be consistently screened for urogenital (adjusted prevalence ratio [aPR], 0.86; 95% confidence interval [CI],.76–.98) and rectal STIs (aPR, 0.76; 95% CI,.62–.93) during PrEP care. Conclusions Substantial gaps exist between CDC recommendations for STI screening during PrEP care and current clinical practice, particularly for rectal and pharyngeal exposure sites that can harbor asymptomatic infections and for MSM in Southeast states where the STI burden is substantial. Objective: To determine the willingness to discuss and be screened for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in pharmacies among MSM. Methods: Led by Georgia's Fulton County Board of Health, this study surveyed individuals who attended 2 Atlanta-based Gay Pride events in 2018. This analysis was limited to those who identified as men who have sex with men (MSM) who were not HIV positive and reported never using PrEP. Multivariable regression was used to determine the correlates of willingness to discuss and be screened for PrEP in-pharmacy. Results: Most (69%) were willing to discuss PrEP with pharmacy staff and 61.35% were willing to be screened for PrEP in-pharmacy. Those who were interested in PrEP were significantly more willing to discuss PrEP in-pharmacy compared to those not interested in PrEP (prevalence ratio [PR]: 1.65; 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 1.11-2.48). Race was not associated with willingness to discuss PrEP with pharmacy staff. However, black MSM (BMSM) were less willing to be screened in pharmacies than white MSM, until we accounted for interest in PrEP (PR: 1.27; 95% CI: 1.09-1.48). Discussion: Pharmacies may be an optimal setting to expand PrEP access to reach racial minorities who have the highest need but are not being reached. Pharmacy-based PrEP discussions and screening could improve awareness of HIV status and increase PrEP knowledge and uptake. Background: This study investigates the willingness of men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM) to use HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Research in the HIV/AIDS field typically relies on clinical and epidemiological studies, thereby often excluding social dimensions of the illness as well as factors explaining its prevention. The current study analyzes HIV-prevention through an interdisciplinary theoretical approach. It aims to comprehensively understand the mechanisms associated with the willingness to take PrEP among MSM in terms of psychological, social, behavioral, cultural, and demographic factors. Methods: We analyze data from the survey "Gay Men and AIDS" conducted in Germany in 2013 prior to market approval for PrEP. Analyses were performed using the statistical software SPSS 25.0, while results were visualized using the R programming language. Results: We find that perceived risk of infection, social norms (anticipated HIV-stigma), practices (e.g. regular condomless sex), and socio-demographic factors (young age, being single) all have a positive effect on the willingness to take PrEP, while education reveals a negative, and income no effect. Conclusions: Results indicate that beyond well-established socio-psychological mechanisms of health behavior, social factors play a crucial role in understanding the willingness of PrEP uptake. Background: HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a key component of HIV combination prevention strategies and has the potential to decrease the incidence of HIV in men who have sex with men (MSM). This study aimed to evaluate levels of PrEP acceptability and explore factors associated with willingness to use PrEP among MSM in Liuzhou, China. Methods: Between November 2017 and May 2019, a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 829 MSM. The study participants were recruited through a nonprobability sampling method. The participants' demographics, HIV/AIDS knowledge, sexual behaviors, drug use and HIV test history were collected. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with willingness to use PrEP. Results: A total of 829 MSM completed the survey, and 30.28% (95% CI 27.3–33.4) were willing to use PrEP. In multivariate logistic regression, factors associated with a higher willingness to use PrEP included Zhuang or Han ethnic origin, recruitment through peer introduction or gay venues, pursuit of a higher education level, previous HIV testing and oral sex with a man. Conversely, having casual sex in the past 6 months was associated with a lower willingness to use PrEP. Conclusions: MSM in Liuzhou reported a relatively low level of willingness to use PrEP. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) has been shown to be an effective method of HIV prevention for men who have sex with-men (MSM) and -transgender women (MSTGWs), serodiscordant couples, and injection drug users; however fewer than 50 000 individuals currently take this regimen. Knowledge of PrEP is low among healthcare providers and much of this lack of knowledge stems from the lack or exposure to PrEP in medical school. We conducted a cross sectional survey of medical schools in the United States to assess the degree to which PrEP for HIV prevention is taught. The survey consisted Likert scale questions assessing how well the students were prepared to perform each skill associated with PrEP delivery, as well as how PrEP education was delivered to students. We contacted 141 medical schools and 71 responded to the survey (50.4%). PrEP education was only reported to be offered at 38% of schools, and only 15.4% reported specific training for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) patients. The most common delivery methods of PrEP content were didactic sessions with 11 schools reporting this method followed by problem-based learning, direct patient contact, workshops, and small group discussions. Students were more prepared to provide PrEP to MSM compared to other high-risk patients. Few medical schools are preparing their students to prescribe PrEP upon graduation. Sexual minority stressors (community homophobia, sexuality-related discrimination, and internalized homonegativity) are negatively associated with accessing HIV prevention services among men who have sex with men (MSM). Few studies have tested minority stressors' associations with PrEP engagement among high-HIV risk young MSM (YMSM). Therefore, we assessed the associations between PrEP-indicated YMSM's progression along the PrEP continuum and their experiences of minority stress. N = 229 YMSM completed a web-survey on PrEP-related behaviors and minority stress. Adjusted for covariates, we developed two partial-proportional odds models examining the associations between PrEP continuum progression and minority stressors, as a composite, and community homophobia, sexuality-related discrimination, and internalized homonegativity, respectively. Our multivariable model demonstrated minority stress levels to be negatively associated with PrEP continuum location (AOR = 0.76, 95% CI: 0.58–0.99). Broken down, discrimination was positively associated with reporting being at an advanced location along the continuum (AOR = 1.39, 95% CI: 1.06–1.82). Internalized homonegativity was negatively associated with continuum location between PrEP-aware participants with no intention to initiate and participants who intended to initiate PrEP (AOR = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.27–0.77) and between those who intended to initiate and those who had ever used PrEP (AOR = 0.39, 95% CI: 0.22–0.69). Our findings suggest that minority stress, especially internalized homonegativity, remains a barrier to PrEP among PrEP-indicated YMSM. Sexuality-related discrimination was associated with PrEP continuum progression, suggesting potentially well-developed, adaptive coping skills (e.g., ability to locate sexuality-affirming providers). Coupled with stigma reduction efforts, HIV prevention services aiming to promote PrEP should incorporate internalized homonegativity screenings and referrals into sexuality-affirming resources for PrEP-indicated YMSM. Biometric registration may improve services associated with HIV research. A cross-sectional, observational survey was used to evaluate biometric fingerprint scanning for identification (ID) verification in the setting of an HIV prevention study. Survey outcomes were dichotomized (discouraged or not discouraged) by biometric scanning and statistical analyses were used to determine if participation decreased by greater than 10% overall and after stratifying by demographic variables and risk behaviors. 206 participants were recruited from a community-based HIV and sexual health research screening program. Participants completed a quantitative survey to assess their perceptions of biometric scanning for ID verification. The majority of participants (n = 160; 77.7%) indicated no deterrence from testing due to biometric scanning, yet a significant number (n = 45; 23.3%, P <.001) reported at least partial deterrence. Research using biometric scanning for ID verification may significantly limit access to HIV prevention services and may risk reducing meaningful participation among marginalized populations. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is one of only two global regions where rates of HIV are currently on the rise. In Lebanon, new HIV infections are increasing most rapidly among young men who have sex with men (YMSM). While, the majority of YMSM in Lebanon report having recently engaged in condomless anal intercourse, many report reluctance to seek HIV prevention services for fear of stigma and discrimination. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective alternative HIV prevention strategy but there is a dearth of research looking at willingness to take PrEP among YMSM in MENA. This study is the first to delineate factors associated with willingness to take PrEP among a cohort of 218 YMSM recruited from Beirut, Lebanon. Over half (55.5%) reported willingness to take PrEP. At the bivariate level, knowledge of HIV risk, awareness of PrEP, being in a relationship, greater judgementalism about sex in communication with peers, greater number of types of gay-related discrimination experienced, sense of community among YMSM, having had recent condomless anal sex with positive or unknown status partner, and the use of substances just prior to or during sex were each associated with greater willingness to take PrEP. When entered into a linear regression analysis, use of substances just prior to or during sex and sense of community among YMSM remained significant predictors of PrEP willingness. We have tracked belief in the effectiveness of HIV treatment as prevention (TasP) among Australian gay and bisexual men (GBM) since 2013. National, online cross-sectional surveys of GBM were conducted every 2 years during 2013–2019. Trends and associations were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Data from 4,903 survey responses were included. Belief that HIV treatment prevents transmission increased from 2.6% in 2013 to 34.6% in 2019. Belief in the effectiveness of TasP was consistently higher among HIV-positive participants than other participants. In 2019, higher levels of belief in TasP were independently associated with university education, being HIV-positive, using pre-exposure prophylaxis, knowing more HIV-positive people, being recently diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and use of post-exposure prophylaxis. Belief that HIV treatment prevents transmission has increased substantially among Australian GBM, but remains concentrated among HIV-positive GBM, those who know HIV-positive people, and GBM who use antiretroviral-based prevention. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective HIV-prevention tool for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), a group known to be disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. We aimed to identify sociodemographic, psychosocial, and health factors associated with awareness of PrEP or interest in PrEP among GBMSM in a mid-sized Canadian city, where PrEP availability is arguably more scarce compared to larger metropolitan regions. The OutLook Study was a comprehensive online survey of LGBTQ health and well-being that collected data from sexual minorities aged 16+ in the Region of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Participants were cisgender MSM with an unknown or negative HIV status (n = 203). Bivariate logistic regression was performed to analyze factors associated with both awareness of PrEP and interest in PrEP. Multivariate logistic regression explored sexual behaviours in the past 12 months while controlling for sociodemographic and psychosocial variables. Increasing number of sexual partners (OR: 1.10; 95% CI: 1.03–1.53) was significantly associated with interest in PrEP and lifetime experiences of homophobia remained significant from the bivariate model (ORs ranged from 1.11–1.12). Since GBMSM with low educational attainment were shown to have less knowledge about PrEP, educational campaigns could be targeted in high schools rather than colleges, universities, and trade schools. Prevention initiatives should be aimed at places where single or non-monogamous GBMSM frequent due to these men being disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. Despite abundant evidence on its safety, tolerability and cost-effectiveness, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) has not been officially approved for non-occupational use in China. This study aims to assess awareness of, willingness to use, and actual experience with PEP in gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBM) in China and to explore potential associations between demographic, behavioral, and psychosocial factors and PEP-related outcomes. We recruited a convenience sample through community venue-based strategies, peer referrals, and online advertisement in four cities of China in 2018. We used bivariable and multivariable logistic regression to test associations between potential predictors and PEP outcomes. Over 60% of men reported having heard of PEP prior to the survey, 70% would be willing to use it if exposed to HIV, and 6% reported having used PEP. Awareness of PEP was associated with higher education, more frequent HIV testing, knowing someone who seroconverted in the past two years, having sex with only men in the past six months, and lower perceived risk of HIV infection. PEP willingness was associated with more frequent HIV testing, being worried about becoming HIV infected, prior awareness and favorable attitudes towards PEP among friends. Findings suggest PEP is an underutilized diomedical HIV prevention intervention among GBM in China. Intimate partner violence (IPV) significantly increases HIV risk among MSM. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) may provide MSM experiencing IPV an option for self-protection from HIV without requiring condom negotiation or compromising safety. This study examined relationships among various forms of IPV (physical, emotional, monitoring, controlling, and forced sex) and PrEP use among 863 MSM participating in a cross-sectional, internet-based survey. Participants reported IPV rates during the prior 6 months that were consistent with prior research (physical violence, 23.3%; emotional violence, 36.3%; monitoring, 45.1%; controlling, 25.3%; forced sex, 20.0%). Forced sex and emotional IPV were negatively associated with PrEP use in our sample; in contrast, controlling was positively associated with PrEP use. In Taiwan, men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV, and the main route of HIV transmission is condomless anal intercourse (CAI). This study examined the associations between psychosociobehavioral characteristics and CAI intention among MSM in Taiwan who had ever engaged in anal intercourse with men, and compared the differences across three sexual roles (receptive, versatile, and insertive) using online survey data (N = 563). For all MSM, those that were in a relationship (AOR = 2.55; 95% CI: 1.61–4.03), had three or more steady partners (AOR = 2.58; 95% CI: 1.19–5.58), did not use a condom during last anal intercourse (AOR = 6.81; 95% CI: 4.36–10.63), perceived high HIV risk (AOR = 2.13; 95% CI: 1.26–3.60), and had high sexual sensation seeking (AOR = 2.80; 95% CI: 1.82–4.30) were more likely to have high CAI intention. After stratification, the significant characteristics differed depending on sexual role, except for no condom use during last anal intercourse remaining significant in all models (AOR = 5.09–20.30; 95% CI: 2.49–66.69, depending on sexual role). Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is fully reimbursed by the French health insurance system since 2016. However, uptake of PrEP is slower than expected and little is known about men who have sex with men (MSM) who are eligible for PrEP according to French guidelines, but not using it. This study aims to (1) assess and describe MSM that are eligible to PrEP but not using it, and (2) identify potential individual and structural barriers of PrEP uptake among eligible MSM who are aware and intend to take PrEP. Data from EMIS-2017, a cross-sectional internet survey among gay, bisexual, and other MSM, were used. Among 7965 respondents without diagnosed HIV, 9.2% were PrEP users. Among 7231 non-PrEP users, 35.2% were eligible to PrEP and 15.2% were eligible, aware and intended to take PrEP. Eligible MSM who are not using PrEP are mostly younger, students, less "out", living in small cities, using condoms more frequently but still with low self-efficacy regarding safe sex and more distant from preventive health care and information than PrEP users. Despite free PrEP availability in France, results suggest that PrEP is not fully accessible and that there is a need to increase PrEP demand and decentralize PrEP delivery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The expanding HIV risk reduction toolkit increases options for men who have sex men (MSM), but increasing options in combination with different preferences may complicate promoting risk reduction. To investigate what strategies MSM prefer, data of 3310 participants in the online survey "Men & Sexuality" (Median age = 37 years, 320 (9.7%) HIV positive) was analysed. Questions assessed attitudes towards HIV risk reduction strategies. Participants had the most positive attitudes regarding PrEP and HIV testing, while withdrawal and strategic positioning were least preferred (all p's <.001). Condoms were seen as acceptable to partners and effective but scored low on sexual pleasure. HIV-positive participants were more negative about condoms and more positive about viral load sorting than HIV-negative participants (F(12,3297) = 5.09, p <.001, η p 2 =.02). Findings highlight a preference for HIV risk reduction strategies (PrEP and HIV testing) that do not diminish sexual pleasure and can be applied independent of sexual partners. A serological divide was apparent: HIV-negative MSM were less negative about condoms than HIV-positive MSM, suggesting that condom promotion remains a viable strategy for HIV-negative MSM. Taken together, results indicate a need for personalized approaches to the promotion of HIV risk reduction strategies, accounting for individual preferences and strategy effectiveness.
