Encephalitis and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) are often caused or triggered by viruses—but the specific pathogen commonly remains unidentified in routine care. We explored the use of viral metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in addition to PCR testing of non-invasive stool samples to see if unbiased testing could potentially increase diagnostic yield. To identify specific clinical cases at the point of care, we took advantage of a previously published digital app allowing instant clinical case classification based on consensus case criteria, the VACC-Tool. This hospital-based prospective digital surveillance program assessed 100 pediatric patients (mean age: 11 years, range: 0.15–17.85; 49% male) with case-confirmed encephalitis and/or ADEM. Analysis of case classification at the point of care revealed that in routine care, 96% of confirmed encephalitis/ADEM cases had been missed. Overall agreement of routine care diagnoses with digital encephalitis/ADEM case classification was <50%. Also in routine care, only 13% of cases held a virus-related diagnosis, i.e., herpesvirus (n = 8) and enterovirus infection (n = 5). Use of mNGS increased the yield of virus detection by 77% (n = 23 virus hits). Specifically, mNGS identified 10 additional virus species beyond herpes- and enteroviruses. Of the additional 23 virus hits detected with mNGS, PCR confirmation was possible post hoc in 14 cases (61%). Linking digital case classification, mNGS, and PCR testing may not be feasible in routine care at this point but may help to provide hints to the pathogenesis of encephalitis/ADEM in childhood, warranting further research and exploration. Two-dimensional intrinsic magnetic materials with high Curie temperature are promising candidates for next-generation spintronic devices. In this work, we design two kinds of two-dimensional transition metal nitrides, VN2 and FeN2, both with a hexagonal honeycomb lattice. Based on the formation energy, and phonon spectra calculations as well as the molecular dynamics simulations, their structural stability is demonstrated. Then, we determine the ferromagnetic ground states of VN2 and FeN2 monolayers through the energy calculations, and the Curie temperatures of 222 K and 238 K are estimated by solving the Heisenberg model using the Monte Carlo simulation method. Hence, the VN2 and FeN2 monolayers are demonstrated to be new two-dimensional ferromagnetic materials with high temperature ferromagnetism or large-gap half-metallicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[Display omitted] Seeking cathode materials with high areal capacity and excellent cycling tolerance is a key step to develop aqueous rechargeable zinc-based alkaline batteries with high energy density, power density and excellent stability. Here, the bilayered cathode composite (MCN-LDH@CP) of molybdate intercalated cobalt–nickel layered hydroxide nanosheets (MCN-LDH) grown on cobalt phosphate octahydrate microsheet (CP) was prepared by a two-step hydrothermal process. Molybdate intercalation significantly reduces the thickness of cobalt–nickel layered hydroxide, greatly increases its specific surface area, regulates its pore distribution, increases the crystal plane spacing, promotes the diffusion rate of hydroxide in it, and increases its specific capacity. Meanwhile, the bilayered MCN-LDH@CP electrode significantly improved the areal energy density (2.89 mWh/cm2) and peak power density (111.22 mW/cm2) and cycle stability (97.8 % after 7000 cycles) of the CoNi//Zn battery. The excellent stability is mainly due to the fact that the MCN-LDH overlay inhibits the loss of P element of CP and improves the structural stability of the sample. The quasi-solid-state MCN-LDH@CP//Zn battery can still charge a mobile phone even when hammered and pierced, showing excellent safety and reliability. Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease leading to various vascular diseases. Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) senescence promotes atherosclerotic inflammation and the formation of plaque necrosis core, in part through telomere damage mediated by a high-fat diet. Our previous research found that paeonol, a potential anti-inflammatory agent extracted from Cortex Moutan, could significantly improve VSMCs dysfunction. However, the impact of paeonol on the senescence of VSMCs remains unexplored. This study presents the protective effects of paeonol on VSMCs senescence, and its potential activity in inhibiting the progression of atherosclerosis in vivo and in vitro. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is a nuclear deacetylase involved in cell proliferation, senescence, telomere damage, and inflammation. Here, SIRT1 was identified as a potential target of paeonol having anti-senescence and anti-atherosclerosis activity. Mechanistic studies revealed that paeonol binds directly to SIRT1 and then activates the SIRT1/P53/TRF2 pathway to inhibit VSMCs senescence. Our results suggested that SIRT1-mediated VSMCs senescence is a promising druggable target for atherosclerosis, and that pharmacological modulation of the SIRT1/P53/TRF2 signaling pathway by paeonol is of potential benefit for patients with atherosclerosis. The role of subcutaneous (SC) rituximab in the efficacy and safety to non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is not clear enough. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis, to assess the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous rituximab to NHL. A full-scale search was carried out based on the set search terms in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane CENTRAL until 12 October 2022 to identify relevant studies of subcutaneous rituximab for NHL. The efficacy and safety outcomes included complete response (CR) plus unconfirmed complete response (CRu), adverse events (AEs), grade ≥3 AEs, serious adverse events (SAEs), administration-related reactions (ARRs), adverse reaction rates. From a total of 758 studies, 9 trials were eligible. The CR/CRu of patients with NHL receiving SC rituximab was 57%, 55% for Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and 54% for Follicular lymphoma (FL). The meta-analysis performed on safety demonstrated that AEs of NHL patients with SC rituximab was 85%, grade ≥3 AEs was 38%, SAE was 27% and ARR was 33%. The result also showed that SC rituximab had a high risk of neutropenia and nausea. For NHL patients, there is no significant difference in the efficacy between subcutaneous rituximab and conventional therapy, while subcutaneous injection can shorten exposure time in the hospital and reduce the risk of infection. A typhoon or hurricane is one of the most destructive high-impact weather events. In this study, the genesis and development processes of Typhoon Nangka (2015), which occurred over the Western Pacific in 2015, were investigated based on the comprehensive observation data from three satellites, i.e., the Himawari-8 satellite, the CloudSat satellite and the Global Precipitation Measurement mission satellite (GPM), focusing on the characteristics of typhoon structure, precipitation and cloud. The results (Results) show that during the developing stage of Typhoon Nangka, the cloud system was relatively complex and changed significantly, with large raindrops dominating the precipitation around the eyewall in the first quadrant, and the convection in the eyewall and outer rainband burst upward to 17 km. In addition, three features were obvious: stratiform precipitation was dominant in the inner rainband, both the precipitation type (stratiform or convective) and intensity were distributed unevenly in the outer rainband, and large water content was located in the warm layer of clouds. Moreover, the collision growth and breakup of water droplets tended to be stable. The precipitation in the typhoon eyewall, inner rainband and outer rainband was significantly different; stratiform precipitation mainly occurred in the inner rainband, while convective precipitation mainly appeared in the eyewall and outer rainband. The cloud system was distributed asymmetrically, and the upper-layer and lower-layer clouds were closely related, dominated by single-layer clouds. There were deep convective clouds in the eyewall, and cirrus clouds with the broadest range across the eyewall. The coverage range of cirrus clouds was close to the radius of the typhoon. Objective: To explore the appropriate dosage of levothyroxine treatment for congenital hypothyroidism patients with different thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. Methods: A total of 116 patients, who were regularly followed-up in our endocrine clinic from January 2010 to December 2020, were divided into four groups based on their thyroid function (group A: TSH ≥ 100 mIU/L, group B: TSH ≥ 20, and < 100, group C: TSH > 4.6 mIU/L and < 20 mIU/L with free thyroxine (FT4) < 6.6 pmol/L, and group D: TSH > 4.6 mIU/L and < 20 mIU/L with FT4 > 6.6 pmol/L). The initial dosage of levothyroxine was individualized for each patient based on their TSH level and then adjusted according to their thyroid function at every follow-up time point. The levothyroxine dosage at each time point was compared between the groups, and thyroid function and physical and neurological development after treatment were also compared. Results: After individualized dosage adjustment, all patients achieved normal thyroid function. Although there were statistical differences in neurological development between the four groups (p < 0.05), development was within the normal range for all groups. Conclusion: An individualized levothyroxine dosage can provide the same therapeutic effect compared to the recommended dosage. This strategy may also reduce the risk of a drug overdose. Background: The hair follicle is a skin accessory organ that regulates hair development, and its activity varies on a regular basis. However, the significance of metabolites in the hair follicle cycle has long been unknown. Results: Targeted metabolomics was used in this investigation to reveal the expression patterns of 1903 metabolites in cashmere goat skin during anagen to telogen. A statistical analysis was used to investigate the potential associations between metabolites and the hair follicle cycle. The findings revealed clear changes in the expression patterns of metabolites at various phases and in various feeding models. The majority of metabolites (primarily amino acids, nucleotides, their metabolites, and lipids) showed downregulated expression from anagen (An) to telogen (Tn), which was associated with gene expression, protein synthesis and transport, and cell structure, which reflected, to some extent, that the cells associated with hair follicle development are active in An and apoptotic in An–Tn. It is worth mentioning that the expression of vitamin D3 and 3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyronine decreased and then increased, which may be related to the shorter and longer duration of outdoor light, which may stimulate the hair follicle to transition from An to catagen (Cn). In the comparison of different hair follicle development stages (An, Cn, and Tn) or feeding modes (grazing and barn feeding), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis revealed that common differentially expressed metabolites (DEMs) (2'-deoxyadenosine, L-valine, 2'-deoxyuridine, riboflavin, cytidine, deoxyguanosine, L-tryptophan, and guanosine-5'-monophosphate) were enriched in ABC transporters. This finding suggested that this pathway may be involved in the hair follicle cycle. Among these DEMs, riboflavin is absorbed from food, and the expression of riboflavin and sugars (D-glucose and glycogen) in skin tissue under grazing was greater and lower than that during barn feeding, respectively, suggesting that eating patterns may also alter the hair follicle cycle. Conclusions: The expression patterns of metabolites such as sugars, lipids, amino acids, and nucleotides in skin tissue affect hair follicle growth, in which 2'-deoxyadenosine, L-valine, 2'-deoxyuridine, riboflavin, cytidine, deoxyguanosine, L-tryptophan, and guanosine-5'-monophosphate may regulate the hair follicle cycle by participating in ABC transporters. Electro-Fenton reaction mechanism by the porous fiber electrodes of NZVIF-800 for degradation and sterilization. In this study, a novel metal–organic framework (MOF) derived fiber electrode (NZVIF-800) was successfully fabricated by a novel electrostatic spinning and pyrolysis procedure. The NZVIF-800 electrode exhibited great catalytic activity in a heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) system for organic degradation, in which the secnidazole (SCZ) was completely degraded within 60 min with excellent stability (no significant change after eight cycles). Importantly, the NZVIF-800 electrode was also highly effective for decontaminating actual pharmaceutical wastewater, in which the TOC and COD removal reached 38% and 47%, respectively, after 4 h EF reaction. Based on experimental analysis, microstructure characterization, and theoretical calculations, the detailed reaction mechanism of the NZVIF-800 electrode was revealed. The impressive EF performance was mainly attributed to the in situ generation of active nano-zero-valent iron (NZVI) derived from the MOF pyrolysis and the confinement effect of the encased carbon layer that could effectively inhibit the loss and inactivation of Fe active sites. The degradation pathways of organic pollutants in simulated and real wastewater were proposed in detail. Significantly, the EF system with NZVIF-800 electrode exhibited strong sterilization ability for the wastewater matrix as evidenced by the colony condition, OD 600 values, and Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform analysis (up to 95% sterilization efficiency within 4 h), expanding its application scope for actual wastewater treatment. Background: To summarize the characteristics of gastrointestinal (GI) perforation in anti-nuclear matrix protein 2 (NXP2) antibody-associated juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM). Methods: Five patients with GI perforation from a JDM cohort of 120 cases are described. Relevant literature was reviewed. Results: Five patients, including four females and one male, were included in the study. The age of onset of these patients ranged from 3.3 to 9.5 years with the median age of 5.0 years. When these patients were complicated by GI perforation, childhood myositis assessment score (CMAS) ranged from 1 to 5 with the median score of 2. Myositis-specific antibody (MSA) spectrum analysis indicated that the five patients were anti-NXP2 antibody positive. The initial symptoms of GI perforation were progressive abdominal pain and intermittent fever. Two patients also presented with ureteral calculus with hydronephrosis and ureteral stricture. Surgery was performed in four patients. One patient failed to undergo a repair as the perforation was high in position. For the other three patients, perforation repair was successful, of which two patients failed due to recurrent perforation. At 24 months postoperative follow-up, one patient was in complete remission on prednisone (Pred) and methotrexate (MTX) treatment, and her ureteral stricture had disappeared. The other four patients died. Adding these cases with 16 other patients described in the literature, the symptom at onset was progressive abdominal pain, which often occurred within 10 months after JDM was diagnosed. Perforation most commonly occurred in the duodenum, although it also occurred at multiple sites or was recurrent. The mortality rate of GI perforation in JDM was 38% (8/21). Conclusions: All the five perforation cases in our study subjected to MSA analysis were anti-NXP2 antibody positive. The symptom at onset was abdominal pain. The most common site of perforation was the duodenum in the retroperitoneum, and the lack of acute abdominal manifestations prevented early diagnosis. GI perforation may be a fatal complication in JDM, and early diagnosis is very important. More research is needed to determine the pathogenesis and predictive factors of GI perforation in JDM. Very few studies have focused on the biogeography and genetic diversity of aquatic invertebrate zooplankton from the Qinghai‐Tibetan Plateau, an important biogeographic hotspot. The geological uplift of this region created special environments requiring adaptive genetic diversification of the resident lineages. Here, we developed and used the first set of high‐resolution microsatellite markers for the Daphnia similis species complex. We screened this species in 23 (out of 303) lakes across China, covering a large geographical and ecological range of habitats. High population clonal diversity of the D. similis species complex was found, regardless of their geographical origin. However, four Tibetan Daphnia sinensis populations showed substantially lower clonal diversity. Interestingly, D. sinensis populations from two regions, Eastern China and the Qinghai‐Tibetan Plateau of Western China, were found to be clearly differentiated from each other. Lakes inhabited by Western D. sinensis were of a lower trophic level, higher altitude, and more likely to freeze in the winter. This study contributes to an understanding of adaptation to their special environments by the freshwater invertebrates in the Qinghai‐Tibetan Plateau. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Primary vaginal melanoma is rare compared to cutaneous melanoma, and it has a high rate of invasion and metastasis. The prognosis of tumors is poor and the quality of life of patients is low. In addition to traditional surgical and non-surgical treatment, combined treatments are more effective for patients with distant metastatic melanoma. Due to the high immunogenicity of vaginal malignant melanoma, immunotherapy has become an effective treatment strategy for distant metastatic vaginal melanoma, and with the application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), outstanding achievements have been made in the treatment of the disease. Studies have shown that ICIs combined with radiotherapy (RT) or anti-angiogenic therapy can have a synergistic effect in certain tumor treatments, normalizing blood vessels and enhancing immune responses. However, whether ICIs combined with RT and anti-angiogenic therapy can benefit patients with distant metastatic vaginal melanoma remains unclear. The present study reports the clinical case of a patient with distant metastatic vaginal melanoma treated with combined RT, anti-angiogenic therapy and ICIs. The patient's primary tumor and distant metastases improved after combination therapy. The combination therapy successfully improved the patient's prognosis and prolonged the patient's overall survival. Cladocerans of the Daphnia longispina complex are often the key components of pelagic food webs in northern temperate lakes and ponds. In the present study, we aimed to fill the gap in knowledge on the biogeography and diversity of this species complex, through analysis (by sequencing two mitochondrial genes) of the taxonomic structure of 18 lake populations across China, covering a large geographical and ecological range. Based on the patterns observed in the Western Palaearctic and Japan, we hypothesized that several species of the D. longispina complex should coexist and that some cryptic lineages are present in China. In the lakes studied, however, we detected haplotypes of only two species (D. galeata and D. dentifera). Daphnia galeata was detected in eutrophic lakes at lower altitudes (in central and eastern China), whereas D. dentifera was found in high-altitude oligotrophic lakes of the Tibetan Plateau in western China. The two lineages coexisted in only one of the lakes studied, in Tibet. The variation in mitochondrial DNA differed between the two species. Daphnia dentifera haplotypes were lake specific, while D. galeata haplotypes were often shared across lakes and geographic regions, indicating a recent rapid expansion of the latter species. Knowledge diffusion in regional innovation ecosystems is an important factor that influences the regional innovation efficiency. In regional innovation ecosystems under digital empowerment, the knowledge diffusion enables the optimal allocation of innovation resources and promotes the sustainable development and ecological evolution of regional innovation ecosystems. In this paper, a SEIR (Susceptible–Exposed–Infected–Recovered) model is proposed for knowledge diffusion in regional innovation ecosystems under digitization. The basic reproduction number of the proposed model is calculated and its stability is validated. Finally, the expressions for the optimal control system and the optimal control parameters are presented. According to the research conclusions of this paper, the knowledge-diffusion ability of innovation agents in an innovation ecosystem affects the knowledge diffusion in a system; the contact rate between innovation agents affects the efficiency of knowledge diffusion in the system and the structure of the system; the digital transmission ability of innovation agents affects the breadth of knowledge diffusion in the system; and the self-learning ability of innovation agents affects the efficiency of knowledge diffusion in the system.The digital technologies help heterogeneous innovation agents in regional innovation ecosystems to break down the knowledge silos. At the same time, the digital technologies enhance the ability of innovation agents to absorb and learn knowledge in regional innovation ecosystems under digitization, thereby increasing the infection rate of knowledge diffusion in such systems.These conclusions extend the theoretical boundaries of innovation ecosystems and knowledge diffusion and offer management implications for enterprises and governments in decision-making. Summary: The first mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) supported atomically precise palladium nanoclusters catalyzed alcohol oxidation reactions in water have been achieved. The catalysts was synthesized with simple impregnation method and well characterized by TEM, FT-IR, XPSanddiffuse reflectance optical spectrumand the results proved that the Pd nanoclustersimmobilized into the pores of MSNs.The as-prepared catalyst show excellent activity for the alcohol oxidation reactions with high yield under extremely mild aqueous conditions utilizes 1 atmosphere of molecular oxygen as sole oxidant. Respiratory viral infections (RVIs) are common reasons for healthcare consultations. The inpatient management of RVIs consumes significant resources. From 2009 to 2014, we assessed the costs of RVI management in 4776 hospitalized children aged 0–18 years participating in a quality improvement program, where all ILI patients underwent virologic testing at the National Reference Centre followed by detailed recording of their clinical course. The direct (medical or non-medical) and indirect costs of inpatient management outside the ICU ('non-ICU') versus management requiring ICU care ('ICU') added up to EUR 2767.14 (non-ICU) vs. EUR 29,941.71 (ICU) for influenza, EUR 2713.14 (non-ICU) vs. EUR 16,951.06 (ICU) for RSV infections, and EUR 2767.33 (non-ICU) vs. EUR 14,394.02 (ICU) for human rhinovirus (hRV) infections, respectively. Non-ICU inpatient costs were similar for all eight RVIs studied: influenza, RSV, hRV, adenovirus (hAdV), metapneumovirus (hMPV), parainfluenza virus (hPIV), bocavirus (hBoV), and seasonal coronavirus (hCoV) infections. ICU costs for influenza, however, exceeded all other RVIs. At the time of the study, influenza was the only RVI with antiviral treatment options available for children, but only 9.8% of influenza patients (non-ICU) and 1.5% of ICU patients with influenza received antivirals; only 2.9% were vaccinated. Background. Emerging studies support the oncogenic role of WD repeat domain 62 (WDR62) in few tumors, while no pan-cancer analysis is available. In this study, we analyzed systematically the oncogenic role of WDR62 across a series of human tumors based on bioinformatic data mining. Methods. The expression level of WDR62 was analyzed via GEPIA2, TIMER, UALCAN, and StarBase databases. The prognostic role was analyzed via GEPIA2, TIMER, UALCAN, StarBase, TISIDB, TCGA portal, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, and PrognoScan databases. Then, we explored the causes for WDR62 abnormal expression via TCGA portal and UALCAN databases. Subsequently, the STRING and GeneMANIA databases were used to find the interactive networks for WDR62. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between WDR62 expression and immune features via TIMER and TISIDB databases. Results. We found that WDR62 was significantly upregulated in most of the tumors and correlated with poor prognosis mainly in 6 candidate tumors—BLCA, BRCA, KIRC, KIRP, LIHC, and LUAD. Abnormal WDR62 expression may be probably attributed to TP53 mutation and promoter DNA methylation. Relative network analysis demonstrated that WDR62 was mainly involved in MAPK and toll-like receptor signaling pathway. WDR62 expression was associated with various immune cell infiltrations, especially cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) and T cell regulatory (Treg) cells, and was markedly correlated with poor prognosis. Moreover, WDR62 expression was closely associated with the expression of some immunomodulators such as PD-L1 and has a significant prognostic value. Conclusions. Our study revealed that WDR62 could serve as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for several cancers. Importantly, WDR62 was closely associated with various immune cell infiltration, and to a certain extent, it can predict the effect of immunotherapy in particular PD1/PD-L1 inhibitors. Fairy shrimp are the most divergent taxon of large branchiopod crustaceans and have a worldwide distribution. Yet the diversity and distribution of fairy shrimps in the "Roof of the World" remain poorly known. Here, based on morphology, we identified three species of fairy shrimp (Branchinecta orientalis, Chirocephalus graziellae and Branchipodopsis affinis), among 14 fairy-shrimp populations from the Tibetan Plateau, China. Their phylogenetic relationships were verified based on mitochondrial DNA sequences (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene) and two nuclear markers (18S ribosomal RNA gene and internal transcribed spacer 2). Syntopy of different species of fairy shrimp was observed. Some haplotypes were shared among populations, and sequences from B. affinis exhibited a star-like pattern in haplotype networks, suggesting a recent rapid expansion. Human motion classification based on micro-Doppler effect has been widely used in various fields. However, the motion classification performance would be greatly degraded if the wireless environment has non-target micro-motion interference. In this case, the interference signal aliases with the signal of target human motions and then generates cross-terms, making the signals hard to be used to identify target human motions. Existing methods do not consider this non-target micro-motion interference and have poor resistance to such interference. In this paper, we propose a target human motion classification system that can work in the scenarios with non-target micro-motion interference. Specifically, we build a continuous wave radar transceiver working in a low-frequency radar band using the software defined radio equipment Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) N210 to collect signals. Moreover, we use Empirical Mode Decomposition and S-transform successively to remove non-target micro-motion interference and improve the time-frequency resolution of the raw signal. Then, an Energy Aggregation method based on S-method is proposed, which can suppress cross-terms and background noise. Furthermore, we extract a set of features and classify four human motions by adopting Bagged Trees. In this paper, the problem of the delay-dependent robust H ∞ control for a class of uncertain neutral systems with mixed time-varying delays is studied. Firstly, a robust delay-dependent asymptotic stability criterion is shown by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) after introducing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF). The LKF including vital terms is expected to obtain results of less conservatism by employing the technique of various efficient convex optimization algorithms and free matrices. Then, based on the obtained criterion, analyses for uncertain systems and H ∞ controller design are presented. Moreover, on the analysis of the state-feedback controller, different from the traditional method which multiplies the matrix inequality left and right by some matrix and its transpose, respectively, we can obtain the state-feedback gain directly by calculating the LMIs through the toolbox of MATLAB in this paper. The aim is to investigate the genomic characterization of uterine sarcoma for rAd-p53 (Gendicine®) combined with chemotherapy treatment. We recently published an article on 12 cases of uterine sarcomas, which were treated with rAd-p53 combined with chemotherapy. We found that rAd-p53 combined with chemotherapy is effective for various uterine sarcomas. Pretreatment pathological specimens of four uterine sarcoma patients were collected from the above recent clinical research and numbered 1–4A/B. Tumor samples were subjected to targeted sequencing by using a 416 genes panel. We profiled the mutation spectrum and tumor mutation burden in the tumors, identified mutated genes, and explored their gene function. We also verified the p53 protein expression using immunohistochemistry. We identified a total of 30 mutated genes that were found from the next-generation sequencing test results. The average number of mutated genes was up to seven in the five samples. TP53 gene was mutated in two of the four patients, No. 1 and No. 4B. They are c.C833G (p.P278R) missense mutation and a point mutation (C141*) that result in a premature stop codon. We did not find a mutated TP53 gene in the other two cases, but we identified mutated genes, including CREBBP, LYN, CDKN2A, and JAK2, which were located upstream of the TP53 gene; they may have an impact on TP53. We also identified 11 additional genes which are involved in p53-related signaling pathways or have interaction with p53. Compared to solid tumor mutational burden (TMB) distribution, none of their TMB was ranking in the top 25%. Mutant p53 protein expression was positive in two specimens. Our results demonstrated that the TP53 signaling pathway plays an important role in uterine sarcoma tumorigenesis. TP53 and the upstream genes such as CREBBP, LYN, CDKN2A, and JAK2 may be involved in the genomic characterization for rAd-p53 (Gendicine) combined with chemotherapy in uterine sarcoma. Herein, a robust monolithic N-doped electrode was fabricated by simple physical mixing and heating methods using accessible raw materials, and applied in EF system for wastewater treatment. The prepared 3D NC-650 electrode was used as cathode, showing excellent catalytic activity and stability for degradation of typical p-nitrophenol (PNP) pollutant and remediation of petrochemical wastewater. During the EF process, the PNP was completely decomposed via the substitution, oxidation, and ring-opening reactions under the attack of ·OH. The degradation pathways of organics in real wastewater matrix were also revealed based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and three-dimensional fluorescence analysis. According to the degradation experiments, microstructure analysis, and theoretical calculation (molecular electrostatic potential, bond length, and adsorption energy), the possible mechanism of different N-doped positions on the monolithic 3D NC-650 electrode was revealed, in which the graphitic N, edge pyridinic N, and edge pyrrolic N all contribute to enhance the EF activity by accelerating the O 2 adsorption, facilitating the H 2 O 2 formation by promotion of *–OOH bond breaking, and promoting the adsorption of organics on electrode surface, respectively. Background: Clinical decision-making involves ethical issues that become more and more complex. Nurse interns must be more skilled in making rational and timely decisions when facing ethical dilemmas. The contributing factors and their relationships that challenge ethical decision-making among nurse interns must be fully understood, as this level of knowledge can support the development of strategies and interventions that improve the ethical decision-making ability of nurse interns. Objective: This study examined the relationships between moral courage, moral sensitivity, and ethical decision-making by nurse interns. In addition, we investigated whether moral sensitivity mediates the relationship between moral courage and ethical decision-making. Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study using an online questionnaire. Setting: The study sampled nurse interns from Class iii Grade A general hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. Participants: A convenience sampling method was used to select 1334 nurse interns from March 2022 to May 2022. Methods: A general information questionnaire, the Nurses' Moral Courage Scale (NMCS), the Chinese Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire (MSQ), and the Judgement About Nursing Decision (JAND) were used for data collection. Data was processed and analysed using SPSS 26.0 and Amos 28.0. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and structural equation modelling. Results: Moral courage was found to be positively correlated with ethical decision-making (P < 0.01). Moral sensitivity was also positively correlated with ethical decision-making (P < 0.01) and had a mediating effect on the relationship between moral courage and ethical decision-making (P < 0.01). Conclusions: The moral courage and moral sensitivity of nurse interns are positively correlated with ethical decision-making ability. Moral sensitivity significantly mediates the relationship between moral courage and ethical decision-making ability. The seasonal rainfall regime is a key factor control on local ecological and social processes and is commonly thought to be stable under long‐term climate changes. Here we present a unique high‐resolution rainfall record from the Thai‐Malay Peninsula, combined with a state‐of‐the‐art transient climate simulation, demonstrating a fundamental rainfall regime shift from summer to winter during the Holocene. Transient model simulation and new sensitivity experiments further reveal that westward migration of the boundary between summer and winter rainfall regimes results in a summer to winter rainfall regime shift forced by distinct changes in summer and winter monsoons. Our findings suggest that the seasonal rainfall regime could be unstable under climate change around the boundaries of rainfall regimes in the tropics and possibly worldwide, which might be more critical for shaping both past and future ecological environments. The Late Cenozoic East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) enhancement has been attributed to several factors, such as uplift of the Tibetan Plateau, retreat of the Paratethys Sea, and global cooling related to polar ice volume increment. However, the fundamental forcing factors remain enigmatic due to the absence of long and continuous climate records and sensitive indicators. Here we reanalyzed the published grain-size record of Sikouzi fine sediments in the western Chinese Loess Plateau through end-member (EM) modeling. The results indicate that EM 2 with grain-size peaks between 10–100 μm decreased in content from 20.1 to 17 Ma and stepwise increased from 17 to 0.07 Ma during the following six stages (17–15 Ma, 15–12 Ma, 12–8 Ma, 8–6 Ma, 6–4 Ma and 4–0 Ma). Such varying trends can be successively correlated in seven stages with the integrated benthic δ18O record, implying that global warming weakened the EAWM from 20.1 to 17 Ma and global cooling has stepwise strengthened the EAWM since 17 Ma. Therefore, we conclude that global temperature change played a major role on the evolution of EAWM during the Neogene period. By contrast, Late Cenozoic palaeogeographic reorganization caused by uplift of the Tibetan Plateau and retreat of the Paratethys Sea contributed less to the evolutionary evolution of EAWM. Spectral analysis of the EM 2 data first provided direct evidence of orbitally influenced deposition in the study area and thus the EAWM variations during the Neogene period. The 100-kyr period became weak since ~10 Ma, possibly due to the decrease in sensitivity of a more stable, continental-scale ice sheet in Antarctica to local insolation forcing, deserving further investigation. Oracle bone inscriptions (OBIs) are ancient Chinese scripts originated in the Shang Dynasty of China, and now less than half of the existing OBIs are well deciphered. To date, interpreting OBIs mainly relies on professional historians using the rules of OBIs evolution, and the remaining part of the oracle's deciphering work is stuck in a bottleneck period. Here, we systematically analyze the evolution process of oracle characters by using the Siamese network in Few-shot learning (FSL). We first establish a dataset containing Chinese characters which have finished a relatively complete evolution, including images in five periods: oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, seal inscriptions, official script, and regular script. Then, we compare the performance of three typical algorithms, VGG16, ResNet, and AlexNet respectively, as the backbone feature extraction network of the Siamese network. The results show that the highest F1 value of 83.3% and the highest recognition accuracy of 82.67% are obtained by the combination of VGG16 and Siamese network. Based on the analysis, the typical structural performance of each period is evaluated and we identified that the optimized Siamese network is feasible to study the evolution of the OBIs. The three-dimensional-printed Ti6Al4V implant (3DTi) has been widely accepted for the reconstruction of massive bone defects in orthopedics owing to several advantages, such as its tailored shape design, avoiding bone graft and superior bone-implant interlock. However, the osteoinduction activity of 3DTi is inadequate when applied clinically even though it exhibits osteoconduction. This study developes a comprehensive coatless strategy for the surface improvement of 3DTi through copper (Cu) ion implantation and ultraviolet (UV) photofunctionalization to enhance osteoinductivity. The newly constructed functional 3DTi (UV/Ti-Cu) achieved stable and controllable Cu doping, sustained Cu2+ releasing, and increased surface hydrophilicity. By performing cellular experiments, we determined that the safe dose range of Cu ion implantation was less than 5×1016 ions/cm2. The implanted Cu2+ enhanced the ALP activity and the apatite formation ability of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) while slightly decreasing proliferation ability. When combined with UV photofunctionalization, cell adhesion and proliferation were significantly promoted and bone mineralization was further increased. Meanwhile, UV/Ti-Cu was conducive to the migration and angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in vitro , theoretically facilitating vascular coupling osteogenesis. In conclusion, UV/Ti-Cu is a novel attempt to apply two coatless techniques for the surface modification of 3DTi. In addition, it is considered a potential bone substrate for repairing bone defects. The xanthone dimer 12- O -deacetyl-phomoxanthone A (12-ODPXA) was extracted from the secondary metabolites of the endophytic fungus Diaporthe goulteri. The 12-ODPXA compound exhibited anticancer properties in murine lymphoma; however, the anti-ovarian cancer (OC) mechanism has not yet been explored. Therefore, the present study evaluated whether 12-ODPXA reduces OC cell proliferation, metastasis, and invasion by downregulating pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK)4 expression. Cell counting kit-8, colony formation, flow cytometry, wound healing, and transwell assays were performed to examine the effects of 12-ODPXA on OC cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. Transcriptome analysis was used to predict the changes in gene expression. Protein expression was determined using western blotting. Glucose, lactate, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) test kits were used to measure glucose consumption and lactate and ATP production, respectively. Zebrafish xenograft models were constructed to elucidate the anti-OC effects of 12-ODPXA. The 12-ODPXA compound inhibited OC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and glycolysis while inducing cell apoptosis via downregulation of PDK4. In vivo experiments showed that 12-ODPXA suppressed tumor growth and migration in zebrafish. Our data demonstrate that 12-ODPXA inhibits ovarian tumor growth and metastasis by downregulating PDK4, revealing the underlying mechanisms of action of 12-ODPXA in OC. Multiple upwelling systems develop in the Indian Ocean during the summer monsoon. The Sri Lanka dome (SLD), which occurs in the open ocean off the east coast of Sri Lanka from June to September, is distinct from those near the coast. The SLD is characterized by uplifted thermocline and increased chlorophyll concentration. Mechanisms of the upwelling and its biogeochemical response are not well understood. Here, we explored the dynamics of the chlorophyll and sea-to-air CO2 flux in the SLD using ocean color and altimetry remote sensing data, together with other reanalysis products. We found that the occurrence of high chlorophyll concentration and sea-to-air CO2 flux happens along the pathway of the southwest monsoon current (SMC). The annual cycle of chlorophyll in the SLD has a one-month lag relative to that in the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The positive wind stress curl that forms in the SLD during the summer does not fully explain the seasonal chlorophyll maximum. Transport of the SMC, eddy activity, and associated frontal processes also play an important role in regulating the variability in chlorophyll. In the SLD, upwelled subsurface water has excess dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) relative to the conventional Redfield ratio between DIC and nutrients; thus, upwelling and sub-mesoscale processes determine this region to be a net carbon source to the atmosphere. Abstract: Analytic solutions of stress field for quasi-static expansion of spherical cavity in incompressible soft medium are derived, in which large elastic deformation is modeled by the Mooney–Rivlin constitutive equation and the failure behavior by elastic-fracture. As a consequence, the work needed to open unit volume of cavity in infinite medium, P s, is obtained, which reflects the material's strength and is widely used in studying penetration problems. Energy partition between the elastic and fracture regions is analyzed. Uniaxial compression and simple shear experiments were carried out to determine the moduli in Mooney–Rivlin model at low strain rates for 10 wt% ballistic gelatin at 4 °C, and the failure mode is determined to be elastic-fracture as the stretch ratio exceeds a critical value in the range of 1.5–2.0. For high loading rates, available results from the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) experiments are carefully examined and assessed, and linear increasing of P s with the strain rate is suggested. The application of P s model to ballistic penetration problems is presented and discussed, and with a properly defined characteristic strain rate, the model of P s reasonably agree with the experiments in terms of the maximum cavity volumes in 10 wt% ballistic gelatin penetrated by fragments of various shapes and a bullet. Studies have shown that ordinary color cameras can detect the subtle color changes of the skin caused by the heartbeat cycle. Therefore, cameras can be used to remotely monitor the pulse in a non-contact manner. The technology for non-contact physiological measurement in this way is called remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis, as a very important physiological feature, requires us to be able to accurately recover the peak time locations of the rPPG signal. This paper proposes an efficient spatiotemporal attention network (ESA-rPPGNet) to recover high-quality rPPG signal for heart rate variability analysis. First, 3D depth-wise separable convolution and a structure based on mobilenet v3 are used to greatly reduce the time complexity of the network. Next, a lightweight attention block called 3D shuffle attention (3D-SA), which integrates spatial attention and channel attention, is designed to enable the network to effectively capture inter-channel dependencies and pixel-level dependencies. Moreover, ConvGRU is introduced to further improve the network's ability to learn long-term spatiotemporal feature information. Lycium ruthenicum is a characteristic plant resource in Northwest China. The fruit with high anthocyanin content is the main reason for its high nutritional value and economic value, while the regulation of key genes regulating anthocyanin biosynthesis in black fruit is not clear. In this study, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to compare the expression differences of all genes in black and purple fruits. The purple samples obtained 45.13 and 51.49 M Raw reads, while the black fruit samples measured 53.85 and 47.38 M Raw Reads. After splicing and assembly, 162,842 transcripts were obtained after removing redundant and duplicated results. Homology comparison of all predicted proteins found that 36,978 (22.43%) genes in Lycium ruthenicum were homologous to Solanum tuberosum, followed by 24,459 (14.84%) genes were homologous to Capsicum annuum. Overall, 3685 genes were up-regulated in purple fruit, 2837 genes were down-regulated in purple fruit, and the remaining 156320 genes were not differentially expressed in black and purple fruit. Through homology comparison of anthocyanin biosynthesis and metabolism structure genes in Lycium ruthenicum, 63 homologous genes, 4 MYB transcription factors and 5 bHLH transcription factors were screened. LrAN2p (909 bp) in purple fruit was 136 bp more upstream of 'ATG' than LrAN2 (774 bp) in black fruit. Three highly expressed copies of bHLH transcription factors AN1b with different lengths were screened in black fruit, but they were almost not expressed in purple fruit. Background: Aberrant alternative splicing plays critical role in aging and age-related diseases. Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) reportedly regulate RNA splicing process. Whether and how hnRNPs contribute to age-related neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer's disease (AD), remain elusive. Methods: Immunoblotting and immunostaining were performed to determine expression patterns and cellular/subcellular localization of the long isoform of hnRNP D-like (L-DL), which is a hnRNP family member, in mouse hippocampus. Downregulation of L-DL in WT mice was achieved by AAV-mediated shRNA delivery, followed by memory-related behavioural tests. L-DL interactome was analysed by affinity-precipitation and mass spectrometry. Alternative RNA splicing was measured by RNA-seq and analyzed by bioinformatics-based approaches. Downregulation and upregulation of L-DL in APP/PS1 mice were performed using AAV-mediated transduction. Results: We show that L-DL is specifically localized to nuclear speckles. L-DL levels are decreased in the hippocampus of aged mouse brains and downregulation of L-DL impairs cognition in mice. L-DL serves as a structural component to recruit other speckle proteins, and regulates cytoskeleton- and synapse-related gene expression by altering RNA splicing. Mechanistically, these splicing changes are modulated via L-DL-mediated interaction of SF3B3, a core component of U2 snRNP, and U2AF65, a U2 spliceosome protein that guides U2 snRNP's binding to RNA. In addition, L-DL levels are decreased in APP/PS1 mouse brains. While downregulation of L-DL deteriorates memory deficits and overexpression of L-DL improves cognitive function in AD mice, by regulating the alternative splicing and expression of synaptic gene CAMKV. Conclusions: Our findings define a molecular mechanism by which hnRNP L-DL regulates alternative RNA splicing, and establish a direct role for L-DL in AD-related synaptic dysfunction and memory decline. This study was designed to reveal the important role of CXCL2 in platinum resistance in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Differently expressed (DE) genes were screen out based on analysis of GSE114206 dataset in GEO database. The expression of DE chemokines was further validated in platinum- resistant and sensitive EOC. Cell viability assay and cell apoptosis assay were performed to explore the roles of CXCL2 in EOC. Cell stemness characteristics and the signaling pathway regulated by CXCL2 were also investigated in this study. As the results showed, CXCL2 was identified up-regulated in platinum-resistant EOC. The functional assays showed overexpressing CXCL2 or co-culturing with recombinant human CXCL2 promoted cell resistance to cisplatin. Conversely, knocking down CXCL2 or co-culturing with neutralizing antibody to CXCL2 increased cell response to cisplatin. CXCL2 overexpressing maintained cell stemness and activated ATR/CHK1 signaling pathway in EOC. Moreover, we further demonstrated that CXCL2-mediated resistance to cisplatin could be saved by SB225002, the inhibitor of CXCL2 receptor, as well as be rescued by SAR-020106, the inhibitor of ATR/CHK1 signaling pathway. Background: The zooplanktonic cladocerans Daphnia, present in a wide range of water bodies, are an important component of freshwater ecosystems. In contrast to their high dispersal capacity through diapausing eggs carried by waterfowl, Daphnia often exhibit strong population genetic differentiation. Here, to test for common patterns in the population genetic structure of a widespread Holarctic species, D. galeata, we genotyped two sets of populations collected from geographically distant areas: across 13 lakes in Eastern China and 14 lakes in Central Europe. The majority of these populations were genotyped at two types of markers: a mitochondrial gene (for 12S rRNA) and 15 nuclear microsatellite loci. Results: Mitochondrial DNA demonstrated relatively shallow divergence within D. galeata, with distinct haplotype compositions in the two study regions but one widely distributed haplotype shared between several of the Chinese as well as European populations. At microsatellite markers, clear separation was observed at both large (between China and Europe) and small (within Europe) geographical scales, as demonstrated by Factorial Correspondence Analyses, Bayesian assignment and a clustering method based on genetic distances. Genetic diversity was comparable between the sets of Chinese and European D. galeata populations for both types of markers. Interestingly, we observed a significant association between genetic distance and geographical distance for D. galeata populations in China but not in Europe. Conclusions: Our results indicate relatively recent spread of D. galeata across wide expanses of the Palaearctic, with one mtDNA lineage of D. galeata successfully establishing over large distances. Despite a clear differentiation of Chinese and European D. galeata at a nuclear level, the pattern of genetic variation is nevertheless similar between both regions. Abstract Exposure to ambient ozone (O 3) is a risk factor for public health and causes damage to vegetation, including agricultural crops. In this study, we performed a comprehensive estimate of the spatial distribution of premature deaths and main crop yield losses attributed to ambient O 3 , across China in 2014, by applying the Global Burden of Diseases approach and AOT40 metric (i.e., above a threshold of O 3 concentration of 40 ppb). Our results show that China's total premature deaths in 2014 due to COPD attributed to O 3 exposure were 89,391 (CI95: 32,225–141,649) with spatial variation across provinces. O 3 induced production losses from all crops were 78.4 million metric tons, and the relative yield losses ranged from 8.5 to 14.0% for winter wheat, 3.9–15.0% for rice, and 2.2–5.5% for maize. The top four Chinese provinces (Sichuan, Shandong, Henan and Hunan) for premature deaths attributed to O 3 pollution also suffered severe losses in yields of winter wheat and rice. Our results provide quantitative evidence of O 3 induced impacts on both the public health and crop yields across Chinese provinces, which have important policy implications for the government to alleviate O 3 pollution in addition to PM 2.5 pollution that is currently being addressed. Condensation heat transfer of R245fa in a tube with the diameter of 14.81 mm and length of 1200 mm was investigated. The R245fa mass fluxes, inlet vapor mass qualities and inclination angles covered the ranges of 191.3–705.4 kg/m 2 s, 0.191–0.947 and −90° to 90°, respectively. The non-dimensional analysis yielded the importance of inertia force and gravity force to influence condensation heat transfer. Surface tension force played unimportant role. Condensation heat transfer coefficients ( h ) showed the general increase trend versus inclination angles ( θ ) and the non-monotonic behavior in the full inclination angle range. The maximum h occurred at θ = 30° and −15°. The h values were sensitive to θ near the horizontal positions. The main flow patterns in the condenser tube were stratified-smooth flow, stratified-wavy flow and intermittent flow. For inclined upflow, the liquid layer thickness and interface wave competed with each other to influence heat transfer. An optimal inclination angle existed at which heat transfer coefficients reached maximum. For inclined downflow, condensation heat transfer was balanced by the liquid layer thickness and buoyancy force. The flow was more stable. Heat transfer coefficients were well correlated with the general increase term multiplied by the non-monotonic variation term. The parameters in the correlation depended on the Froude number and vapor mass qualities. The correlation successfully explained the effects of mass fluxes, vapor mass qualities and inclination angles on condensation heat transfer coefficients. Based on the present finding, the condenser is recommended to operate at the inclination angle of −15° or 30°, at which heat transfer coefficients are maximum and pressure drops are minimum. This study presents the first examination of the genetic structure of Daphnia longispina complex populations in Eastern China. Only one species, D. galeata, was present across the eight investigated lakes; as identified by taxon assignment using allelic variation at 15 microsatellite loci. Three genetically differentiated D. galeata subgroups emerged independent of the type of statistical analysis applied. Thus, Bayesian clustering, discriminant analysis based on results from factorial correspondence analysis, and UPGMA clustering consistently showed that populations from two neighbouring lakes were genetically separated from a mixture of genotypes found in other lakes, which formed another two subgroups. Clonal diversity was high in all D. galeata populations, and most samples showed no deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, indicating that clonal selection had little effect on the genetic diversity. Overall, populations did not cluster by geographical origin. Further studies will show if the observed pattern can be explained by natural colonization processes or by recent anthropogenic impact on predominantly artificial lakes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Well-preserved lacustrine sediments are found in some areas in East Tibet. This region is characterized by a windy and semi-arid climate, alpine valleys, and frequent earthquakes. Measurements of rare earth elements, observations from a scanning electron microscope and a high-resolution record of grain-size measurements allowed us to compare fine sediments from the Xinmocun section in the Diexi Lake, with loess from the Chinese Loess Plateau and South China. Results indicate that fine grains of the Xinmocun lacustrine sediments were transported by wind and trapped in the lake, whereas the >16μm fraction was likely from local sources. The grain-size changes within the section repeatedly show abrupt coarsening and upward fining, probably due to palaeoearthquake events. Large earthquakes in the study area often caused rockfalls and landslides, exposing fine sediments that had accumulated on mountains' slopes. The fine grains were then retransported by wind to the Diexi Lake. Optically stimulated luminescence dating of the Xinmocun section indicates continuous deposition from 18.65 to 10.63ka. These results indicate that palaeoearthquakes in the study area had a mean recurrence interval of ~0.32ka. Therefore, we propose that lacustrine sediments in a tectonically active region have the potential to record a continuous history of palaeoearthquakes. Palaeoearthquakes probably produced numerous rockfalls and landslides in alpine valleys and provided significant sources of regional eolian dust. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) is a video-based non-contact heart rate measurement technology. It is a fact that most existing rPPG methods fail to deal with the spatiotemporal features of the video, which is significant for the extraction of the rPPG signal. In this paper, we propose a 3D central difference convolutional network (CDCA-rPPGNet) to measure heart rate, with an attention mechanism to combine spatial and temporal features. First, we crop and stitch the region of interest together through facial landmarks. Next, the high-quality regions of interest are fed to CDCA-rPPGNet based on a central difference convolution, which can enhance the spatiotemporal representation and capture rich relevant time contexts by collecting time difference information. In addition, we integrate the attention module into the neural network, aiming to strengthen the ability of the neural network to extract video channels and spatial features, so as to obtain more accurate rPPG signals. In summary, the three main contributions of this paper are as follows: (1) the proposed network base on central difference convolution could better capture the subtle color changes to recover the rPPG signals; (2) the proposed ROI extraction method provides high-quality input to the network; (3) the attention module is used to strengthen the ability of the network to extract features. Extensive experiments are conducted on two public datasets—the PURE dataset and the UBFC-rPPG dataset. In terms of the experiment results, our proposed method achieves 0.46 MAE (bpm), 0.90 RMSE (bpm) and 0.99 R value of Pearson's correlation coefficient on the PURE dataset, and 0.60 MAE (bpm), 1.38 RMSE (bpm) and 0.99 R value of Pearson's correlation coefficient on the UBFC dataset, which proves the effectiveness of our proposed approach. Abstract: A newly discovered Paleolithic site in loess deposits in the Lushi Basin, South Luo River, central China, is dated using pedostratigraphic analysis, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and magnetostratigraphic analysis. This region is regarded as an important place for hominin occupation and settlement during the early to middle Pleistocene. Results indicate that the archaeological site dates from 600ka to 620ka, reinforcing the view that Homo erectus had occupied a large area of eastern Asia by 620ka. The lithic assemblages of Lushi Basin is a flake and core technology, typical for this time period in north-central China. It may be compared with that at the Zhoukoudian locality 1 in north China and some sites in the Luonan Basin, and provides important data for understanding the behavior and stone tool technology of early Chinese hominins. China pledges to reach a peak in CO 2 emissions by 2030 and to make its best efforts to reach this peak earlier. Previous studies have paid much attention to the total amount of China's CO 2 emissions, but usually only one dataset is used in each evaluation. The pledged national reduction target is administratively divided into provincial targets. Accurate interpretation of province-level carbon emissions is essential for making policies and achieving the reduction target. However, the spatiotemporal pattern of provincial emissions and the associated uncertainty are still poorly understood. Thus, an assessment of province-level CO 2 emissions considering local statistical data and emission factors is urgently needed. Here, we collected and analyzed 7 published emission datasets to comprehensively evaluate the spatiotemporal distribution of provincial CO 2 emissions. We found that the provincial emissions ranged from 20 to 649 Mt CO 2 and that the standard deviations (SDs) ranged from 8 to 159 Mt. Furthermore, the emissions estimated from provincial-data-based inventories were more consistent than those from the spatial disaggregation of national energy statistics, with mean SDs of 26 and 65 Mt CO 2 in 2012, respectively. Temporally, emissions in most provinces increased from 2000 to approximately 2012 and leveled off afterwards. The interannual variation in provincial CO 2 emissions was captured by provincial-data-based inventories but generally missed by national-data-based inventories. When compared with referenced inventories, the discrepancy for provincial estimates could reach −57%–162% for national-data-based inventories but were less than 45% for provincial-data-based inventories. Using comprehensive data sets, the range presented here incorporated more factors and showed potential systematic biases. Our results indicate that it is more suitable to use provincial inventories when making policies for subnational CO 2 reductions or when performing atmospheric CO 2 simulations. To reduce uncertainties in provincial emission estimates, we suggest the use of local optimized coal emission factors and validations of inventories by direct measurement data and remote sensing results. • Estimates from provincial statistics were more consistent than the national ones. • The interannual variations were well-captured by provincial-data-based datasets. • The provincial-based estimates help to allocate duties and set reduction targets. Background: Quantifying CO2 emissions from cities is of great importance because cities contribute more than 70% of the global total CO2 emissions. As the largest urbanized megalopolis region in northern China, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Jing-Jin-Ji, JJJ) region (population: 112.7 million) is under considerable pressure to reduce carbon emissions. Despite the several emission inventories covering the JJJ region, a comprehensive evaluation of the CO2 emissions at the prefectural city scale in JJJ is still limited, and this information is crucial to implementing mitigation strategies. Results: Here, we collected and analyzed 8 published emission inventories to assess the emissions and uncertainty at the JJJ city level. The results showed that a large discrepancy existed in the JJJ emissions among downscaled country-level emission inventories, with total emissions ranging from 657 to 1132 Mt CO2 (or 849 ± 214 for mean ± standard deviation (SD)) in 2012, while emission estimates based on provincial-level data estimated emissions to be 1038 and 1056 Mt. Compared to the mean emissions of city-data-based inventories (989 Mt), provincial-data-based inventories were 6% higher, and national-data-based inventories were 14% lower. Emissions from national-data-based inventories were 53–75% lower in the high-emitting industrial cities of Tangshan and Handan, while they were 47–160% higher in Beijing and Tianjin than those from city-data-based inventories. Spatially, the emissions pattern was consistent with the distribution of urban areas, and urban emissions in Beijing contributed 50–70% of the total emissions. Higher emissions from Beijing and Tianjin resulted in lower estimates of prefectural cities in Hebei for some national inventories. Conclusions: National-level data-based emission inventories produce large differences in JJJ prefectural city-level emission estimates. The city-level statistics data-based inventories produced more consistent estimates. The consistent spatial distribution patterns recognized by these inventories (such as high emissions in southern Beijing, central Tianjin and Tangshan) potentially indicate areas with robust emission estimates. This result could be useful in the efficient deployment of monitoring instruments, and if proven by such measurements, it will increase our confidence in inventories and provide support for policy makers trying to reduce emissions in key regions. Face images contain many important biological characteristics. The research directions of face images mainly include face age estimation, gender judgment, and facial expression recognition. Taking face age estimation as an example, the estimation of face age images through algorithms can be widely used in the fields of biometrics, intelligent monitoring, human-computer interaction, and personalized services. With the rapid development of computer technology, the processing speed of electronic devices has greatly increased, and the storage capacity has been greatly increased, allowing deep learning to dominate the field of artificial intelligence. Traditional age estimation methods first design features manually, then extract features, and perform age estimation. Convolutional neural networks (CNN) in deep learning have incomparable advantages in processing image features. Practice has proven that the accuracy of using convolutional neural networks to estimate the age of face images is far superior to traditional methods. However, as neural networks are designed to be deeper, and networks are becoming larger and more complex, this makes it difficult to deploy models on mobile terminals. Based on a lightweight convolutional neural network, an improved ShuffleNetV2 network based on the mixed attention mechanism (MA-SFV2: Mixed Attention-ShuffleNetV2) is proposed in this paper by transforming the output layer, merging classification and regression age estimation methods, and highlighting important features by preprocessing images and data augmentation methods. The influence of noise vectors such as the environmental information unrelated to faces in the image is reduced, so that the final age estimation accuracy can be comparable to the state-of-the-art.
