This paper investigates whether carbon dioxide (CO2) intensity of gross domestic product (GDP) matters for environmental deregulations in Southern European countries over the period of 1990–2018 while controlling economic growth, globalization, and energy consumption. The present study uses the second generation panel based techniques, namely cross-sectional dependency test, cross-sectional unit-root test, Westerlund cointegration test, augmented mean group and common correlated effects mean group estimators, and Dumitrescu–Hurlin causality test to measure the effect of CO2 intensity of GDP, economic growth, globalization, and energy consumption on environmental degradation. The empirical finding of the present study reveals that the CO2 intensity of GDP is an important factor in determining environmental degradation in South European countries, as the outcomes show that a 1% boost in CO2 intensity of GDP is causing a 1.7728% increase in CO2 emissions. Moreover, a 1% increase in economic growth caused a 0.2568% boost in CO2 emissions. Gross Domestic Product is regarded as the major indicator which determines the standards of living in a country. Consequently, energy use is far regarded as one of the major determinants of economic growth in an economy. However, fossil fuel energy greatly contributes to environmental degradation, global warming and the spread of various diseases. The present-day research is aimed at examining the effect of energy efficiency, renewable energy and effective capital on Gross Domestic Product in the emerging seven countries (Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Turkiye, Indonesia, China and India), during the period 1990 to 2019. The main novelty of the research is that it examines the effect of effective capital on Gross Domestic Product, a study which has not been done. Effective capital which is the combined effect of energy and physical capital in the production process is inevitable in raising economic growth. Additionally, the effect of energy efficiency on economic growth in the emerging seven countries has been partially investigated. The findings of this research are robust and unique to those of past researches, because Cross-sectional Augmented Autoregressive Distributive Lag technique which is strong in the presence of cross-sectional dependence, heterogeneity and dynamics is employed. The outcomes provided in this research shows that, energy efficiency and effective capital significantly promotes economic growth, while non-renewable energy provides significant positive effect in the short-run, with no significant effect in the long-run. This research aims to investigate the relationship between carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and energy consumption on the economic growth of countries in the world based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP). We use a large volume of data related to CO2 emissions per capita and energy consumption per capita of each country in the world, so a clustering process is needed using the K-Means method, which divides the country into three cluster labels: high, medium, and low. Then, we performed multiple linear regression using the Generalized Least Square with Autoregressive (GLSAR) method for data that did not satisfy the Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE) criteria. The results are that countries included in the high cluster have a closer relationship between CO2 emissions and energy consumption to GDP than the medium cluster. The vision of every country or subregions is to achieve economic growth and sustainable economic growth. Thus, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as an economic cooperation renders interaction among 16 relevant countries to increase economic development. However, CO2 emissions as a result of economic growth are of great concern. Thus, this study delves into the determinants of CO2 emissions along the ECOWAS community, taking into consideration if countries are energy exporters or energy importers. The analytical procedure applied indicated the presence of heterogeneity in the slope coefficient and cross-sectional dependencies across the various panels. Applying the Westerlund bootstrap co-integration unveiled, the employed variables have a long-run equilibrium association. The results from the augmented mean group (AMG) revealed that the contribution weight (order of importance) to CO2 emissions varies across panel clusters. Finally, the causality results unveil a bidirectional causation in all panels between urbanization and CO2 emissions, whereas foreign direct investment and CO2 emissions have a bidirectional effect in energy importers and the main panel. These results obtained indicate that foreign direct investment, urbanization, energy consumption, trade openness, and gross domestic product are the determinants of CO2 emissions along the community. Based on the outcome, the suggested policy implications indicate that (a) the need for a paradigm shift from fossil fuel sources to renewables be encouraged in the community and (b) again, the awareness of spillover of economic growth and energy transition on CO2 emissions from foreign companies to local businesses must be promoted. Bangladesh observed an unprecedented growth in gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investments (FDI) over the last decade. However, the country also observed an annual average increase in greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by 3.3% between 2000 and 2016. Therefore, this study aims to understand the dynamic relationship among GDP, FDI and GHGs, and investigate the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) so that appropriate policy options could be taken to reduce emissions while sustaining economic growth. This study adopted the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and Granger Causality tests to achieve the objectives. Results suggest the EKC hypothesis to be positive for the nation. The causality test negates short- and long-run causality from energy consumption per capita (ECPC), GDP per capita (GDPPC), and FDI to GHGs at a significance level of 0.05. However, a bi-directional causality is running from ECPC to FDI and GDP per capita in the short-run. By scholarly contributing to the debate between development and GHGs, this study attempts to bridge-up the current gap in the literature, i.e., scientific investigation of the EKC hypothesis and the effects of FDI on energy consumption and GHGs in Bangladesh. Energy plays an important role in economic development. This paper deals with the long-run relationship between energy consumption and real GDP for V4 countries from 2005 to 2019. The analysis was based on the unit root tests, co-integration tests, and causality tests. There are two questions. The first question is if energy consumption the stimulus to GDP, resp. energy consumption causes GDP. And the second question is if GDP the stimulus for energy consumption, resp. GDP causes consumption of energy. Energy consumption has an essential role in the economy on both the demand and the supply. It means that there should be a causal relationship from energy consumption to GDP as well as vice versa. Given that in the long run the energy consumption Granger causes the GDP in Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, it means that energy consumption could cause economic growth in these countries. The research aims to study the most important factors affecting carbon dioxide emissions Co2, through a model. Explanatory variables were used in the model, which are the average per capita gross domestic product (GDP), the square per capita gross domestic product (GDPSQ), per capita energy consumption (CONS), and the POP population for the period 2000-2017 via using double logarithmic formula which is more suitable for economic, statistical and econometric logic in this type of studies, the results of the research showed that all the explanatory variables were statistically significant at the level of 1% and that the model was significant as a whole according to the statistic F and the value of R² =0.99. Economically, we find that the parameter of the average per capita GDP was 0.46 and it came with a positive signal consistent with the methodology of the Environmental Curve Kuznets ECK, the parameter of per capita energy consumption was 0.04, and it came with a negative sign that contradicts the Kuznets methodology, the reason may belong to the conditions that affected the country after 2003. The study aims to explore the causal linkage between CO2 emissions, economic growth and energy consumption in Thailand utilizing the wavelet coherence approach, conventional Granger and the Toda-Yamamoto causality techniques. In this study, time-series data spanning the period between 1971 and 2018 were used. No prior study has used the wavelet coherence approach to collect information on the association and causal interrelationship among these economic variables at different frequencies and timeframes in Thailand. The study objectives are structured to answer the following question: Does economic growth and energy consumption lead to CO2 emissions in Thailand. The findings revealed that: (a) Changes in economic growth led to changes in CO2 emissions in Thailand at different frequencies (different scales) between 1971 and 2018. (b) A bidirectional causal relationship between CO2 emissions and energy consumption. (c) A positive correlation between CO2 emissions and energy usage in the short and long-run between 1971 and 2018. (d) A positive correlation between GDP growth and CO2 emissions in the short and long-run between 1971 and 2018. Central Asia is a major emerging energy player but is also affected by global climate change. To both maintain its economic growth and cope with climate change, Central Asia is in urgent need of environmental and sustainable energy strategies, as well as effective carbon emissions mitigation. To this end, we investigated the characteristics of country-level total carbon emissions in Central Asia (i.e., Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan). Then, the logarithmic mean Divisia index method was applied to identify and quantify the driving forces behind the changes in carbon emissions. In addition, country-level long-run relationships between economic growth and carbon emissions were tested by means of the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis. The results are as follows. (1) There were pronounced differences in per capita gross domestic product, energy intensity, and carbon emissions structures across this region, mainly owing to the oil and gas endowment and economic development stage. (2) Impacts and influences of various drivers of carbon emissions varied across countries over the different stages. (3) During the economic recession period, carbon emissions decreases were largely driven by the decreasing economic growth effect associated with political instability. (4) During the economic transition periods, economic growth effect played a dominant positive role in accelerating carbon emissions in the five countries, followed by the population scale effect. Energy intensity effect was the most important factor in curbing carbon emissions in the five countries. Emissions increases during these periods were partly or largely compensated by the improving energy intensity in the different countries. Carbon intensity effect mostly had a negative but relatively minor effect on carbon emissions. (5) There was only an inverted U-shaped curve existing in the lower-middle-income country (Uzbekistan). Considering these differences and disparities in emissions characteristics and determinants can provide important insights for the energy sustainability and carbon mitigation in Central Asia. India and China are the biggest developing economies in the world apart from being the most populous nations. The population of China is expected to increase over 1.4 billion by 2050, and India may over take China and become the most populous nation at around 1.6 billion populace. These two nations are home to about 40 % of the total population in the world. Apart from this, India and China have attained remarkable success in the economic growth denoted by higher gross domestic product (GDP). The two nations together contribute about one-fifth of the world GDP. This paper discusses about the changes in the energy consumption pattern of developing countries like China and India aiming towards the sustainable development. Furthermore, this paper also analyses the most important drivers adding to the ecological problems, and gives a further glance at the ecological impacts of these in India and China. Over the last 50-60 years we have been emitting carbon dioxide at an accelerated pace. This has had an effect on the carbon dioxide concentration and other GHG gas concentrations, in the atmosphere. The article aims at ascertaining the relationship between indicators affecting the green economic growth of the Eurozone countries. Despite extensive research, scientists have not yet found a clear answer as to whether economic growth and climate change mitigation can be aligned. Another important aspect of the study was to investigate the possible effect of environmental policies on macroeconomic variables such as GDP, investment, employment, and trade. The authors of the article applied the PVAR econometric model to measure the impact of energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and some of the macroeconomic indicators on GDP growth in 19 countries of the Eurozone for years 2000-2016. Based on the results, we cannot yet state explicitly that economic growth in the Eurozone countries has been decoupled from climate change mitigation; however, green transition is on the right track. Given the economic growth and energy consumption patterns, most countries are striving to solve the problems of CO 2 emissions reduction to achieve sustainable development. This paper employs an improved DEA model to measure energy and environmental efficiency for some selected countries in central and western Europe. In addition, the DEA window evaluation technique is applied to measure cross-sectional efficiency using two inputs (energy consumption, labor force), a desirable output (gross domestic product), and an undesirable output (CO 2 emission) for the period from 2010 to 2014. The study finds that the UK ranks the highest position in term of energy and environmental efficiency. This shows that the UK has more effective policies regarding energy efficiency, consumption, production, import and energy intensity measures for sustainable economic growth as well as environmental protection. Ireland is the second-best country after the United Kingdom. The efficiency scores of the two countries are 0.99 and 0.89 respectively. This article analyzed the relationship between financial development, renewable energy consumption, economic growth, and energy prices in Azerbaijan by employing time series data for the time span of 1993–2015. The autoregressive distributed lagged (ARDL) technique was applied in empirical estimations, because it performs better than all the alternative techniques in small samples, which was the case here in this article. The results of estimation found that there is a positive and statistically significant influence of financial development and economic growth on renewable energy consumption, whereas the prices of energy proxied by CPI have an adverse impact on renewable energy consumption in Azerbaijan. Also, estimation results demonstrated that a 1% rise in financial development, proxied by domestic credit as a percentage of GDP, and economic growth increase renewable energy consumption by 0.16% and 0.60%, respectively. This study evaluates the potential impact of promoting non-fossil fuel energy on India's economic growth in a regime based non-linear asymmetric framework. The empirical outcomes affirm regime-shift and asymmetric cointegrating links of the non-fossil fuel energy usage represented by combustible renewables & waste (CREW) and alternative & nuclear energy (ANEN) with the gross domestic product (GDP). The study establishes the existence of threshold cointegration between CREW and GDP. The causal links between CREW and GDP are regime variant and asymmetric, whereas the dynamics between ANEN and GDP are proven to be asymmetric and regime invariant. CREW and GDP supports a feedback hypothesis in a normal regime and a conservation hypothesis in a rare regime. The asymmetric causality between CREW and GDP validates an inverse feedback hypothesis and a negative growth hypothesis. A negative growth hypothesis is also ascertained between ANEN and GDP. We analyze the relationship of CO2 emissions per capita and primary energy per capita with gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and other relevant variables in Colombia for the period 1971–2017. Two partial adjustment models are estimated through the seemingly unrelated regression equations method. There is a decrease in these environmental pressures during some years of the period. However, the results reject the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis and indicate that economic growth is still linked to an increase in these environmental pressures in Colombia. Moreover, a linear relationship between both indicators and GDP per capita is not rejected. Several factors explain the changes in energy consumption and emissions over time, the policies applied being crucial. Some determinants that helped to control these environmental pressures are the change in primary energy source composition, which entailed primary energy savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions, as well as the regulations aimed at controlling CO2 emissions from the transport and industrial sectors.
