The article explores the impact of economic growth pressure on carbon emissions based on panel data from China's 277 cities. Moreover, the article analyzes the underlying influence mechanisms as well as regional heterogeneity. The results demonstrate that economic growth pressure significantly increases carbon emissions. Technological innovation and foreign trade constitute the channels through which economic growth pressure affects carbon emissions, but the mediating mechanism of industrial structure upgrading does not exist. Concretely, economic growth pressure increases carbon emissions by reducing technological innovation and foreign trade. In Western China, economic growth pressure has the highest impact on carbon emissions. In central and western China, economic growth pressure has a significant positive effect on carbon emissions. On the contrary, the effect of economic growth pressure on carbon emissions is significantly negative in Eastern China. This paper aims to explore the relationships between environmental quality, economic growth, and energy use. A panel data set of 25 years (1990–2014) for five OPEC countries (Algeria, Nigeria, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela) is used, and panel unit root tests, panel cointegration tests, panel Granger causality tests, fully modified ordinary Least square (FMOLS), and dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) methods are employed as estimation strategies. Our results show that in the long-run, there are two-way causal relationships between GDP and energy consumption for all countries. Bidirectional causal relationships between GDP and CO2 emissions are also observed in all countries except Algeria. The same relationships are also observed between energy consumption and CO2 emissions in all countries with an exception in Venezuela where unidirectional causality running from CO2 to energy consumption is found. The impact of GDP on the CO2 emissions is the highest in Saudi Arabia followed by Venezuela, Nigeria, and Indonesia. CO2 emission is one the major contributor to climate change that the top CO2 emitting countries are always trying to mitigate. In an attempt to fill the gap in energy and environmental literature, this study explores the interaction between economic growth, energy usage, trade and urbanization on CO2 emission for MINT economies using the time coverage from 1980 to 2018, providing new perspectives into the literature by employing panel data analysis. Aiming to create robust outcomes, this paper deployed both conventional and modern econometric techniques. The panel co-integration test revealed evidence of the co-integration between CO2 and its determinants in the MINT economies. In order to explore the linkages between CO2 and its determinants, the ARDL PMG model was utilized in MINT economies. Findings based on the ARDL PMG reveals; (i) positive interconnection between CO2 emissions and energy usage; (ii) no significant link was found between CO2 and economic growth; (iii) urbanization influence CO2 positively while a negative link was found between CO2 and trade. Furthermore, the Dumitrescu-Hurlin Causality test revealed; (i) uni-directional causality from CO2 to urbanization; (ii) GDP growth cause CO2 while CO2 causes energy usage. The study investigated the impact of factors such as non-performing loans, CO2 emissions, bank credit, and inflation on the variable sustainable economic growth for India, Brazil, and Romania during the period 2005-2017, through a panel data analysis. Specifically, we investigated the timeline before, during, and after economic turmoil, with a special focus on the global financial crisis. Our empirical results are valuable for both developing and developed nations. As a first result, we showed that CO2 emissions increased the level of economic growth, but in this context, authorities should design suitable policies to limit its impact on the overall society. In addition, a single supervision mechanism increased the level of sustainable economic growth. Last but not the least, the period during and after the global financial crisis, sustainable economic growth decreased under the influence of bank credit, inflation, and non-performing loans. The implementation of environmental regulation needs to consider not only pollution control but also its impact on economic growth. Using the provincial panel data in China from 2000 to 2017, this paper constructs dynamic spatial panel models and employs system GMM approach to evaluate the nonlinear and spatial effects of environmental regulation on economic growth and CO 2 emissions, respectively. The results suggest that, first, environmental regulation presents a significant "N"-shaped effect on economic growth and an inverted "N" effect on CO 2 emissions at the national level and in the eastern and central regions; while the effects are both"N"-shaped in the western region. Second, environmental regulation presents significant spatial effects on economic growth and CO 2 emissions. The enhancement of regional environmental regulation helps the economic growth and CO 2 emissions reduction in neighboring provinces at the national level and in the eastern and central regions, however, the spatial effects are opposite in the western provinces, proving the co-exists of "race to the top" and "race to the bottom" strategies of environmental regulation competition among China's regions. To verify how does the development of technological innovation effectively mitigate carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions in Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, this study first investigates the direct impacts and moderating effects of technological innovation, measured by the development of patents on CO 2 emissions by employing a balanced panel dataset for 35 OECD countries covering 1996–2015. Also, to examine the potential heterogeneity and asymmetry, the panel quantile regression approach is utilized. The empirical results indicate that technological innovation directly reduces CO 2 emissions; however, this impact is significantly heterogeneous and asymmetric across quantiles. Furthermore, through analyzing the influencing mechanism, the technological innovation affects the impacts of economic growth and renewable energy through its moderating effects. Moreover, the moderating effects of technological innovation is also heterogenous. This study aims to examine the asymmetric nexus between CO2 emissions and renewable energy and economic and population growth in seven East African countries (EACs) at the regional level and country levels. Common correlated effect means group (CCEMG), nonlinear autoregressive distributed lagged (NARDL), and causality tests were employed for the panel data from 1980 to 2016. The main findings are as follows: (1) Renewable energy consumption negatively affects CO2 emissions, while economic and population growth positively affect CO2 emissions at the regional level. (2) The findings of asymmetric and symmetric linkages between CO2 emissions and its determinants (economic and population growth and renewable energy) are very volatile across the country levels. (3) The causality hypotheses are different across the country and regional levels. (4) This study shows the renewable energy growth nexus, wherein renewable energy positively affects economic growth at the regional level. Green development is the direction of China's agricultural sector. Investigating the main influencing factors of the agricultural sector's CO 2 emissions will help plan agricultural development and achieve low-carbon growth. This paper selects 2001–2016 panel data of China's 30 provinces, and uses the nonparametric additive regression models to investigate the agricultural sector's CO 2 emissions. The empirical results show that economic growth, financial capacity, and energy intensity all have a "pull first, then restrict" inverted U-shaped nonlinear effect on CO 2 emissions. However, the influencing mechanisms of these three influencing factors are different and need to be paid attention by relevant government departments. More complicated, the impact of urbanization on CO 2 emission shows a gentle "M-shaped" pattern. In addition, an inverse "N-shaped" nonlinear link exists between trade openness and CO 2 emissions.
