This study investigates the potential use of Yellow River sand (YRS) sourced from the lower reaches of the Yellow River in China as a sustainable and cost-effective substitute for quartz sand in Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC). With an annual accumulation of approximately 400 million tons in this region, YRS presents a substantial resource. ECC specimens with 100% YRS replacement with quartz sand were subjected to various curing methods: natural, steam, standard, and sprinkler. Extensive mechanical testing including flexural, compressive, uniaxial tensile, and four-point flexural tests was conducted. Additionally, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) analyses investigated microscopic mechanisms influencing macroscopic mechanical properties. Finally, the mechanical properties of the YRS-ECC test block after 14 days of standard curing and the traditional sand ECC test block were compared and analyzed. The results indicate that ECC specimens with 100% YRS substitution under natural curing show an optimal ultimate tensile strain of more than 4%, providing the best resistance to the reduction in ultimate flexural load and deflection due to aging. Steam curing enhances flexural and compressive strength, achieving an ultimate flexural load of 5 kN and a maximum deflection of 4.42 mm at 90 days. SEM analysis revealed lower C-S-H gel density under natural curing and higher under steam curing, enhancing fiber pull-out in steam-cured specimens. The MIP tests demonstrated that natural curing had the highest porosity (32.86%) and average pore size (51.69 nm), whereas steam curing resulted in the smallest average pore size, with 44% of pores under 50 nm. Compared with traditional sand, it is found that the ultimate bending load and deflection of YRS-ECC are 5.7% and 9.4% higher than those of traditional sand ECC, respectively, and its ultimate tensile strength and strain are also improved. These findings highlight YRS as a sustainable alternative to natural sand in ECC, with natural curing proving the most effective for superior mechanical performance, including tensile strain, crack resistance, and durability. Developing low-carbon and green self-compacting concrete (SCC) is essential for advancing sustainable building materials. In this study, recycled steel fibers (RSFs) and industrial by-products were combined for the production of SCC made with recycled aggregates (RSCC), with the aim of introducing multiple waste materials to improve the sustainability of SCC. 14 RSF-reinforced RSCC mixtures (RSF-RSCC) were prepared by replacing natural coarse aggregates (NCAs) with recycled coarse aggregates (RCAs) and cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and reinforced with RSFs. The parameters studied in this paper include replacement levels of RCAs (75%), SCMs (50% and 75%), and RSFs (0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%). The influence of different content of RSFs and SCMs combinations on workability and mechanical properties was studied, and the synergistic influence of RSFs and SCMs was investigated in detail. The microstructure characteristic was investigated using a scanning electron microscope. The test results show that the addition of SCMs can compensate for the adverse effects of RSFs on the fresh properties, and all RSF-RSCC exhibited superior workability. Furthermore, the incorporation of RSFs enhanced the mechanical properties of RSCC, resulting in remarkable improvement in the compressive and flexural strengths. Before artificial ageing, extruded aluminium profiles are subjected to stretching with a small cold deformation in the range of 0.5–2%. This deformation improves the geometrical stability of the extruded product and causes changes in the microstructure of the profile, which leads to the strain hardening of the material after artificial ageing. The work has resulted in the creation of the prototype of an original device, which is unique in the world, for the dynamic stretching of the extruded profiles after quenching. The semi-industrial unit is equipped with a hydraulic system for stretching and a pneumatic system for cold dynamic deformation. The aim of this research paper is to produce advantageous microstructural changes and increase the strength properties of the extruded material. The solution of the dynamic stretching of the profiles after extrusion is a great challenge and an innovation not yet practised. The paper presents the results of microstructural and mechanical investigations carried out on extruded AlMgSi(Cu) alloys quenched on the run-out table of the press, dynamically stretched under different conditions, and artificially aged for T5 temper. Different stretching conditions were applied: a static deformation of 0.5% at a speed of 0.02 m/s, and dynamic deformation of 0.25%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% at speeds of 0.05 and 2 m/s. After the thermomechanical treatment of the profiles, microstructural observations were carried out using an optical microscope (OM) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). A tensile test was also carried out on the specimens stretched under different conditions. In all the cases, the dynamically stretched profiles showed higher strength properties, especially those deformed at a higher speed of 2 m/s, where the increase in UTS was observed in the range of 7–18% compared to the classical (static) stretching. The study analyzed surface treatment's impact on mechanical properties of Fe-based amorphous coatings. Specimens underwent six-hour treatments at 670 and 770 °C using vacuum heat. Results revealed distinct mechanical features in the coating: Vickers hardness reached 755, scanning electron microscope images displayed glassy phases, showcasing good wear resistance and compressive residual stresses at around −55 MPa. A remarkable 122% increase in compressive residual stress was noted through combined vacuum heat treatment and sandblasting. Volume wear decreased from the initial 18 to 14 mm3 after treatment at 670 °C followed by sandblasting, indicating a 30% enhancement in wear resistance. This study explored the effect of raw material morphology on the properties of bamboo-plastic composites produced using hot-pressing. To provide a reference for reducing the production cost and improve the product properties of the composites, polylactic acid (PLA)-based bamboo-plastic composites were prepared using bamboo chips with a shaved morphology (BS) and fiber morphology (BF) and PLA as the matrix material, via hot-pressing. The properties of the bamboo-plastic composites formed with BS and BF chips were studied and compared with those of composites with conventional granular morphology (BM) and powder morphology (BP). The results showed that when the content of the bamboo chips was at 50% (the same below), the mechanical properties of the BF/PLA composites were remarkably better than those of the other PLA-based composites. However, the BF/PLA composites showed a high degree of hydrophilicity, with a water contact angle of 70.0° and a water absorption of 10.8% at 288 h. More holes could be seen in the BF/PLA composites using a scanning electron microscope. Geopolymers, as a novel cementitious material, exhibit typical brittle failure characteristics under stress. To mitigate this brittleness, fibers can be incorporated to enhance toughness. This study investigates the effects of varying polypropylene fiber (PPF) content and fiber length on the flowability, mechanical properties, and flexural toughness of coal gangue-based geopolymers. Microstructural changes and porosity variations within the Fiber-Reinforced Geopolymer Mortar(GMPF) matrix were observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Low field NMR(LF-NMR) to elucidate the toughening mechanism of PPF-reinforced geopolymers. The introduction of fibers into the geopolymer matrix demonstrated an initial bridging effect in the viscous geopolymer slurry, with a 3.0 vol% fiber content reducing fluidity by 5.6%. Early mechanical properties of GMPF were enhanced with fiber addition; at 1.5 vol% fiber content and 15 mm length, the 3-day flexural and compressive strengths increased by 30.81% and 17.4%, respectively. Furthermore, polypropylene fibers significantly improved the matrix's flexural toughness, which showed an increasing trend with higher fiber content. At a 3.0 vol% fiber content, the flexural toughness index increased by 198.35%. The data indicated that a fiber length of 12 mm yielded the best toughening effect, with an 84.03% increase in the flexural toughness index. SEM observations revealed a strong interfacial bond between fibers and the matrix, with noticeable damage on the fiber surface due to frictional forces, and fiber pull-out being the predominant failure mode. Porosity testing results indicated that fiber incorporation substantially improved the internal pore structure of the matrix, reducing the median pore diameter of mesopores and converting mesopores to micropores. In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-6.5Si-5.5Cu-0.2Zr-0.01Sr-0.06Ti-0.2Ce cast aluminum alloys were investigated in multistage solid solution systems. The microstructure of the alloy was characterized using an optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM), respectively. The hardness and conductivity of the alloy were measured using a Vickers hardness and eddy current conductivity testers, respectively, and the tensile properties were described by a drawing machine. The results showed that the mechanical properties of the alloy are the worst under the four-stage solid solution system (G1). With the increase in multistage solution temperature and holding time, θ phase (Al2Cu) was gradually dissolved into α-Al matrix to enhance the effect of dislocation strengthening. When the solution temperature reached 510 °C, the mechanical properties of the alloy were the best, and the tensile strength and elongation were increased to 354.90 MPa and 9.02%, respectively. This paper presents research results on biocomposites made from a combination of extruded apple pomace (EAP) and potato starch (SP). The aim of this work was to investigate the basic properties of biocomposites obtained from extruded apple pomace reinforced with potato starch. The products were manufactured by hot pressing using a hydraulic press with a mould for producing samples. The prepared biocomposites were subjected to strength tests, surface wettability was determined, and a colour analysis was carried out. A thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and cross-sectioning observed in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) were also performed. The obtained test results showed that the combination of apple pomace (EAP) and starch (SP) enabled the production of compact biocomposite materials. At the same time, it was found that each increase in the share of starch in the mixture for producing biocomposites increased the strength parameters of the obtained materials. With the highest share of starch in the mixture, 40%, and a raw material moisture content of 14%, the material had the best strength parameters and was even characterised by hydrophobic properties. It was also found that materials with a high content of starch are characterised by increased temperature resistance. The analysis of SEM microscopic photos showed well-glued particles of apple pomace, pectin, and gelatinised starch and a smooth external structure of the samples. Research and analyses have shown that apple pomace reinforced only with the addition of starch can be a promising raw material for the production of simple, biodegradable biocomposite materials. In this study, the authors performed a strength analysis of seven groups of commercially available materials based on SLS incremental technology. Test samples were made with Original PRUSA SL1S printers, with 10 samples of each type from 7 resins selected for testing. The tests were carried out on an MTS Bionix machine in a static tensile test, during which the basic mechanical properties were determined. This is also a preliminary study to determine material constants in the Johnson-Cook strength model. The authors then performed numerical simulations to mirror the experimental tests in order to tune the rheological model. In addition, a fracture criterion was determined based on a hybrid FEM/SPH numerical method. This allowed for the expansion of material libraries currently used in numerical simulations, as well as the sensitivity of the materials' models. In subsequent studies, in order to determine the nature of material destruction, analysis of fracture surfaces was performed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The final study was a biocompatibility test to assess the biological properties of the material. The conducted research made it possible to determine the strength properties of resins currently used in 3D printers, expand the libraries of material models in the computational environment (with an error rate of less than 5%), as well as observe the nature of the cracks formed and biocompatibility in the context of predicting the use of these materials for biomedical applications. This paper is a study of the mechanical properties and microstructures of the similar friction weld joints (TiAl6V4 and AA2024) using a servo-controlled Rotary Friction Welding (RFW) system. The friction welding operations were performed with seven different values of the friction pressure in the range of 2–14 MPa. The temperature is recorded during friction welding tests using k-type thermocouples. Tensile tests and microhardness measurements were carried out to obtain the mechanical properties of the friction weld joints. Microstructural changes of individual zone of the friction welds were investigated using an optical microscope (OM), and the fracture surfaces were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). For AA2024, the fracture occurs most frequently in the central zone, resulting in lower tensile strength values, while for TiAl6V4, the fracture is occurs outside the friction weld interface, indicating that the friction weld joint is more resistant than the base metal. Microscopic analysis of the fracture surfaces of the AA2024 samples revealed diverse morphologies, with rough cupular surfaces predominating, indicating a dominant ductile fracture mode. Similarly, TiAl6V4's friction welded specimen also exhibited cupules of various sizes across its surface, primarily associated with a ductile fracture mode. Overall, the optimal friction pressure values (respectively 8 and 10 MPa for TiAl6V4 and AA2024) correspond to the highest values of the mechanical properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The low liquid limit silty soil in the North China plain area is generally unsuitable for direct use as roadbed and slope soil. In order to improve the performance of low liquid limit silty soil, xanthan gum was used as an improver. Through a series of tests, the improvement effect of xanthan gum on low liquid limit silty soil was studied. The test results showed that Xanthan gum as an improver could significantly improve the unconfined compressive strength of silty soil. With the increase in dosage and curing age, the unconfined compressive strength of improved silty soil continued to improve and eventually tended to stabilize. The optimal dosage and curing period were 2% and 7 days, respectively. In addition, Xanthan gum could greatly improve the permeability and disintegration of low liquid limit silty soil. The permeability coefficient of improved silty soil with a content of 0.75% Xanthan gum and a 7-day curing period was 4.73 × 10−4 m·s−1, which was only 1.10% of that of plain silty soil at the same curing period. After immersion in water for 12 h, the soil only experienced slight disintegration. The scanning electron microscope image showed that the gel generated by the hydration reaction of Xanthan gum could improve the compactness and integrity of the soil by filling the voids, thus significantly improving the mechanical and hydraulic properties of the low liquid limit silty soil. Using Camellia oleifera shell as raw materials to preparative SiC ceramics by warm‐press forming and sintering is proposed in this paper. Warm‐press forming before preparing for the C. oleifera shell‐based SiC ceramics is beneficial to obtain the internal uniform and suitable pore structure of the cylindrical sample. Thermogravimetric analysis with differential scanning calorimetry was applied to analyze the pyrolysis behavior of C. oleiefra shell and phenolic resin. The scanning electron microscope and X‐ray diffraction were used to investigate the properties of C. oleifera shell‐based SiC ceramics. Then, the response surface method was applied to establish a multivariate prediction model based on the process parameters of warm‐press forming. And the regression equations of porosity and bending strength of COS‐SiC are obtained. The result demonstrated that the predicted and experimental values can be in good agreement for the model. By comparing the F‐value, it is found that the forming temperature and pressure during the process of warm‐press forming have a more significant influence on the porosity and bending strength of SiC ceramics. 3D printing has witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity due to its flexibility in design and adaptability as a manufacturing technique to nearly each industrial area. This study focuses on harnessing the technological versatility of 3D printing by utilizing both standard poly lactic acid (PLA) and copper powder‐doped PLA to fabricate intricate structures through a layer‐by‐layer additive manufacturing process. The other innovation introduced here lies in the postprocessing step, which involves salt remelting. The mechanical properties of 3D‐printed standard test specimens undergo comprehensive assessment, encompassing bending and tensile evaluations, hardness measurements, density assessments, dimensional stability analyses, and wear resistance examinations. Utilizing copper powder‐doped PLA for the initial and final layers in XYZ‐oriented prints enables multimaterial printing, resulting in an ≈14% increase in tensile strength. Subsequently, subjecting this multimaterial composite to salt remelting elevates the strength enhancement to ≈16%, accompanied by a significant boost in rigidity by reducing voids in cross‐sectional area. In addition, scanning electron microscope images are captured, allowing for a detailed morphological analysis, which is then correlated with the findings of the various tests performed. The rapid growth of Natural Fiber Laminate (NFL) innovation is a direct response to environmental challenges, positioning these materials as superior alternatives to synthetic fiber composites. This paper delved into the outcomes of an extensive experimental study investigating the influence of sisal fiber (SLF), banana fiber (BF), and glass fiber (GF) on the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of concrete. The water absorption curves were established for sisal fiber concrete (SLFC), banana fiber concrete (BFC), and glass fiber concrete (GFC). Furthermore, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) observations were conducted to perform microanalysis and failure analysis of the tested specimens. The results revealed significant improvements in the concrete containing fibers compared to its counterpart in fiber-free concrete. For mixtures with a water-to-binder (W/B) ratio of 0.3, the most optimal mix (GF-30-135) showed improvements in compressive strength, flexural strength, and splitting tensile strengths by 4.13%, 8.93%, and 10.10%, respectively. On the other hand, for W/B of 0.4, mix GF-30-135 showed improvements of 5.05%, 8.55%, and 11.60%, respectively. Furthermore, as the fiber content increased, microscopic analyses revealed a weakening of the bond between the fibers and the rest of the matrix, contributing to the deterioration of the mechanical properties. In recent times, with rapid development in the construction sector, the use of enormous amounts of materials is required for the production of concrete. Fire penetrates concrete, leading to chemical contamination, small cracks, and lightening. These effects can significantly change the properties of concrete's structure, reduce its strength and durability, and also change the behavior of the structure and lead to effects on the environment. An attempt was made to study the effects of elevated temperature on the mechanical characteristics of self-compacting concrete (SCC) with by-products including fly ash as a partial replacement for cement and waste copper slag as a partial replacement for fine aggregate at 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70%. The SCC specimens were subjected to elevated temperatures ranging from 200, 400, 600, and 800 °C, respectively, for a steady-state of two hours in a digital muffle furnace. The residual compressive strength, mass loss, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and residual density along with a visual inspection of cracks and color changes were observed. In this study, with over 400 °C temperatures, surface fractures appeared. The residual compressive strength (R-CMS) of all the individual temperatures of the SCC-WCS% mixes exhibited a gain in strength range from 31 to 34 MPa at 400 °C, 26 to 35 MPa at 600 °C, and 22.5 MPa to 33.5 MPa at 800 °C, respectively. This paper examines the lithology, pore throat, and fluid characteristics of the reservoir in Liaohe Oilfield Block 3624, using group V rocks as an example, combining a high-temperature and high-pressure reaction still with other equipment such as a rock mechanics tester and a scanning electron microscope. This study also designs and develops three controlled variable experiments, including the subcritical steam reservoir rock dissolution experiment, the subcritical steam reservoir rock mineral composition transformation experiment, and the subcritical steam reservoir rock mineral mechanical property experiment, also making clear the rule of change on the part of the rocks in the deep and heavy oil reservoirs after the injection of subcritical steam. Experimental results reveal the following: (1) Steam causes the dissolution of rocks, and when the steam temperature is in the subcritical region, dissolution is visible. After a 350 °C subcritical steam treatment, the relative melting temperatures of the components of rock materials are substantially greater than the melting point of the cement holding them together, causing the cement to significantly dissolve and a secondary crack network to emerge. (2) The mineral composition of the rocks changes as a result of elevated temperatures, with various mineral transformation trajectories being recorded after various steam treatments. Montmorillonite in reservoir rocks is converted into minerals like illite and chlorite in the subcritical steam temperature range. Another element influencing the creation of secondary cracks on rock surfaces is the reciprocal transformation of minerals, which alters the cohesiveness among mineral components. (3) Rocks suffer thermal damage and changes to their mechanical characteristics as a result of high-temperature steam dissolution and mineral transformations; the severity of these changes increases with the steam temperature. In this present study, the fused deposition modeling (FDM) method was used to fabricate the composites. Before three-dimensional (3D) printing, samples were designed according to the ASTM D256, D790 and D3039 standards for impact, flexural and tensile tests, respectively, using Onshape software before conversion to an STL file format. Afterward, the digital file was sliced with infill densities of 60%, 80%, and 100%. The composite samples contained chopped carbon fiber (cCF) and poly lactic acid (PLA), as reinforcement and matrix, respectively. The cCF/PLA (simply called cCFP) filaments were printed into various cCFP composite (cCFPC) samples, using a Viper Share bot 3D machine with different infill densities before the aforementioned mechanical testing. The tensile strength of cCFP were obtained as 25.9MPa, 26.9MPa and 34.75MPa for 60%, 80% and 100% infill density cCFP samples, respectively. Similarly, the flexural strength of cCFP were obtained as 11.8MPa, 12.55MPa and 18.4MPa and impact strength was 47.48kJ/m2, 48.45kJ/m2 and 48.96kJ/m2 for 60%, 80% and 100% infill density cCFP samples, respectively. The fractured/tested samples were examined and analyzed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to investigate the presence of fiber and void in the tensile sample. Based on the experimental results, it was evident that a high infill density of 100% with the highest reinforcement exhibited maximum impact strength, tensile and flexural strengths and moduli when compared with other lower carbon content of cCFPC samples. Therefore, the optimal 3D-printed cCFPC sample could be used for engineering application to benefit from properties of the polymer matrix composite materials and possibilities through additive manufacturing (AM). The present study focuses on how microalgae protein biomass, such as spirulina (SP), can be used to create thermoplastic blends and algal‐based bioplastics. Algal bioplastics can be customized for a variety of material properties and applications while remaining biodegradable. In this work, the casting approach has been performed to create spirulina‐starch‐glycerol composite films by adding SP to plasticized starch films. The characteristics and properties of the composite films were inspected by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), tensile strength, antimicrobial activity, and biodegradation analysis. The composite film with 3% SP was found to have the best combination of mechanical and chemical properties, and additional SP causes the mechanical properties to degrade. The results demonstrated that bio‐composites prepared by plasticized starch and containing SP could be promising in the development of new environmentally friendly bio‐nanocomposites for interesting applications in food packaging. In order to overcome the limitations of traditional pervious concrete, which is difficult to balance in terms of both mechanical properties and permeability, this study proposed a novel and effective approach to improve the performances of pervious concrete (PC) based on hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and basalt fibers (BF). The mechanical properties and permeability tests of PC with single-doped or double-doped h-BN and BF were conducted first. Then the influence laws of h-BN and BF content on the compressive strength, flexural strength, porosity, and permeability coefficient for PC were revealed. Finally, the micro-mechanism effects of h-BN and BF on the performances of PC were explored by using a scanning electron microscope and an energy dispersive spectrometer. The results showed that the compressive strength of PC was increased with the increase in the h-BN content, and the flexural strength, porosity, and permeability coefficient increased first and then decreased. Meanwhile, with the increase in the BF content, the compressive strength and flexural strength of PC increased first and then decreased. Moreover, the compressive strength, flexural strength, porosity, and permeability coefficient of the proposed pervious concrete were 22.8 MPa, 5.17 MPa, 18.5%, and 5.09 mm/s, respectively, which were increases of 21.9%, 19.7%, 60.9%, and 42.2%, respectively, compared with ordinary permeable concrete when the optimal admixture combination was 15% fly ash, 0.08% h-BN, and 2.25% BF. This study can avoid the limitations of traditional pervious concrete and provide an efficient alternative way for improving the mechanical and permeability properties of pervious concrete. CrWN/MoN nano-multilayer coatings were deposited in pure N2 by multi-arc ion plating using CrW and Mo targets, with the cathode co-controlled by a permanent magnet combined with an electromagnet. The effects of the thickness modulation period on the microstructure and mechanical and tribological performance were systematically analyzed by grazing-incident X-ray diffraction (GIXRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Nanoindentation, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and profilometry using a Talysurf profilometer. The local coherent interfaces and nanoscale modulation period were confirmed by TEM, while the coatings were confirmed to be composed of fcc-CrWN and hexagonal δ-MoN by GIXRD. With the increase in the modulation period, the hardness of the CrWN/MoN nano-multilayer coatings decreased, and the values of the H/E ratio and friction coefficient showed the same variation trend. At an 8.0 nm modulation period, the CrWN/MoN nano-multilayer coating showed the maximum hardness (30.2 GPa), the lowest H/E value (0.082) and an H3/E*2 value of 0.16. With the decrease in the modulation period, the average friction coefficient of the CrWN/MoN nano-multilayer coatings gradually decreased from 0.45 to 0.29, while the wear rate decreased from 4.2 × 10−7 mm3/Nm to 3.3 × 10−7 mm3/Nm. This research work reports the influence of 3-µm-sized Palm Sprout Shell Ash (PSSA) reinforcement on the mechanical and tribological behavior of the Al-Cu-Mg alloy. Composites of varying weight percentages of reinforcement ranging from 1 to 6 at intervals of 1 Wt.% were produced using the ultrasonic-assisted bottom-poured stir casting technique. Microstructural studies, mechanical testing, and wear properties analysis were performed on the alloy and the synthesized composites. The microstructure of the obtained samples was examined using Scanning Electron Microscope, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), and XRay Diffraction (XRD). The XRD patterns provided confirmation of the presence of PSSA (SiO2 and Al2O3) particles. The addition of PSSA reinforcement has significantly improved the hardness, tensile strength, and compression strength of composites. The hardness, ultimate tensile strength, and compression strength were improved by 13.89%, 24.04%, and 32.93%, respectively, with the 6 Wt.% PSSA-reinforced composite. However, the incorporation of reinforcement has resulted in a decrease in the ductility of the Al-Cu-Mg alloy composite; the maximum decrement of 42.87% was with the 6% PSSA-reinforced composite. Tests were conducted at different loads and speeds to evaluate the wear behavior of the prepared samples. Superior wear resistance was observed in the composites. Ultra-high-rise buildings require high concrete bearing capacity. Ordinary concrete often fails to meet the project requirements. Admixture of admixtures in concrete is a means of solution. Currently, studies on the incorporation of basalt fiber (BF) and fly ash (FA) in concrete are relatively mature. However, research on incorporating nano-Titanium Carbide (nano-TiC) in concrete is still relatively scarce, which has a lot of room for development. To further improve the mechanical properties of concrete, BF, and FA synergized with nano-TiC were incorporated into concrete to produce TBF concrete in this study. And Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the mechanical properties of concrete. The collapse and compressive deformation damage characteristics of concrete were analyzed. The microstructure of the cement matrix was analyzed by the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). An optimization model of the TBF concrete craving function was developed. Optimized ratios with compressive, split tensile, and flexural strengths as response objectives were obtained, and the accuracy of the optimized ratios was investigated using the same experimental conditions. The results of the study showed that FA increased the collapse of concrete, while nano-TiC and BF decreased the collapse of concrete. Under uniaxial compression, nano-TiC, FA, and BF together incorporated into concrete can improve its compressive damage state. Moderate amounts of nano-TiC, BF, and FA could improve the mechanical properties of concrete. Their optimal mixing ratio admixtures were 0.88%, 0.24%, and 5.49%, respectively. And the measured values under the same conditions were compared with the predicted values. The maximum difference in compressive strength was 6.09%. The maximum difference in split tensile strength was 7.14%. The maximum difference in flexural strength was 8.45%. This indicated that the accuracy of the RSM optimization model was good. As a high-performance composite material, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber-reinforced engineered cementitious composites (PVA-ECCs) are often used in sub-elevated temperature environments (< 200°C) for long-term service. However, the effect of exposure time in sub-elevated temperature on the performance of PVA-ECCs is not still clear. In this study, the properties of PVA-ECCs in sub-elevated temperature environments were examined, with emphasis on the effect of exposure time (1, 3, 6, and 9 h). Furthermore, the microstructure and tensile behavior of single PVA fibers exposed to a sub-elevated temperature environment was investigated. Results showed that PVA-ECCs have enhanced tensile ductility at different sub-elevated temperature exposure times below 100°C. However, the tensile properties of PVA-ECCs at 150°C showed a strain retraction phenomenon at 6 and 9 h. The strain-hardening characteristics of PVA-ECCs gradually disappeared with the increase of the sub-elevated temperature exposure time at 200°C. The results of thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) revealed that the degradation of PVA fibers was accelerated by exposure time in sub-elevated temperature, which caused the reduction of mechanical properties of PVA-ECCs. This paper investigates making an injection mouldable conductive plastic formulation that aims for conductivity into the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding range, with good mechanical properties (i.e., stiffness, strength, and impact resistance). While conductivity in the range (electrostatic charge dissipation) and EMI shielding have been attained by incorporating conductive fillers such as carbon black, metals powders, and new materials, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), this often occurs with a drop in tensile strength, elongation-to-break resistance, and impact resistance. It is most often the case that the incorporation of high modulus fillers leads to an increase in modulus but a drop in strength and impact resistance. In this work, we have used short carbon fibres as the conductive filler and selected a 50/50 PBT/rPET (recycled PET) for the plastic matrix. Carbon fibres are cheaper than CNTs and graphenes. The PBT/rPET has low melt viscosity and crystallises sufficiently fast during injection moulding. To improve impact resistance, a styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS) rubber toughening agent was added to the plastic. The PBT/rPET had very low-impact resistance and the SEBS provided rubber toughening to it; however, the rubber caused a drop in the tensile modulus and strength. The short carbon fibre restored the modulus and strength, which reached higher value than the PBT/rPET while providing the conductivity. Scanning electron microscope pictures showed quite good bonding of the current filler (CF) to the PBT/rPET. The effects of alloying elements on the microstructure evolution and properties of GH2107 superalloy during long-term aging are investigated by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, and transmission electron microscope. The results indicate that the microstructure of the alloy becomes unstable with the prolongation of aging time. Cr element promotes the precipitation of M23C6 carbides at grain boundaries, and Fe element inhibits the precipitation and growth of M23C6 carbides at high temperature. At the same time, high Fe promotes the growth of γ' phase and the precipitation of TCP phase, which has a certain influence on the plasticity and strength of the alloy. The yield strength of alloy1 (15.41% Cr, 35.3% Fe) and alloy2 (15.08% Cr, 40.1% Fe) decreases with the increase in aging time. However, for alloy3 with high Fe content, the yield strength increases suddenly at 3000 h aging time due to the improving effect of solid solution strengthening. The stability of microstructure and performance after long-term service are crucial for the engineering application of ASME SA335-P92 steel. In this present work, a series of isothermal aging tests for P92 steel were performed at 680 °C as long as 21,000 h. Microstructure at different stages of evolution was characterized using scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscopy. Strength and plasticity measurements under the static mechanical tensile condition were also carried out at room temperature. Results showed that Laves phases precipitated rapidly at the early aging stage and coarsened with a relatively high rate in the followed aging period, while M23C6 carbides were precipitated continuously during the aging process. The tensile strength and plasticity of P92 steel at room temperature declined rapidly at the early stage of aging. During the afterward aging process, strength overall presented a slowly falling tendency but plasticity remained a sustainable stability. Graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) are just one of the attractive graphene-based nanomaterials that are rapidly emerging and have sparked the interest of many industries. These small stacks of platelet-shaped graphene sheets have a unique size and morphology that quickly disperse into other materials such as polymers, resulting in higher-value composite materials with improved thermal, conductivity, and mechanical capabilities. A detailed analysis of reinforced High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) using different sizes (2, 15, 25 μm) and compositions (8, 10, 15 wt.%) of Graphene Nanoplatelets (GNP) has been conducted. The microstructure of the HDPE/GNP nanocomposites was extensively examined during the melt blending and injection moulding processes. Based on the results, the nanocomposites with different sizes of GNP exhibited dissimilar behaviour with different compositions. Furthermore, scanning electron microscope (SEM) results indicated a homogeneous dispersion for GNP in melt mixing. Moreover, thermogravimetric (TG) data demonstrate that increasing filler showed a slight increase in the material's thermal stability. The use of GNP improved mechanical properties, as evidenced by the increases in Young's modulus of yield strength from around 100 MPa to over 400 MPa. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is the leading high-performance thermoplastic biomaterial that can be processed through material extrusion (ME) additive manufacturing (AM), also known as three-dimensional (3D) printing, for patient-specific load-bearing implant manufacture. Considering the importance of cyclic loading for load-bearing implant design, this work addresses the high-cycle fatigue behaviour of 3D-printed PEEK. In this work, printed PEEK specimens are cyclically loaded under stress-controlled tension–tension using different stress levels between 75% and 95% of printed PEEK's tensile strength. The experimental results are used to document 3D-printed PEEK's fatigue behaviour using Basquin's power law, which was compared with previous fatigue research on bulk PEEK and other 3D-printing materials. As a pioneering study on its fatigue behaviour, the results from this work show that 3D-printed PEEK exhibits an above-average fatigue strength of 65 MPa, corresponding to about 75% of its tensile strength. Fracture surface analysis suggests that a transition can occur from ductile to brittle fracture with maximum stresses between 85% and 95% of the tensile strength. Evidence of crack propagation features on fracture surfaces under scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation suggests crack initiation in void defects created by printing deposition that propagates longitudinally through line bonding interfaces along layers. Considering this, 3D-printed PEEK's fatigue behaviour can be strongly related to printing conditions. This study investigated the effect of the Cr limits on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 316L alloy. Five 316L alloys with varying Cr contents (16.8, 17.1, 17.3, 17.8 and 18.8 wt.%) were produced by the powder metallurgy (P/M) method. Microstructure studies and phase analysis were performed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscopy (OM), and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). Tensile tests and hardness measurements were performed to evaluate the hardness, strength, and ductility of the alloys. The results showed that Cr addition affected the porosity and grain size of the alloys, as well as the formation of precipitates. The ultimate tensile strength reached a maximum at 17.3 wt.% Cr and then decreased with further Cr addition. Ductility decreased with increasing Cr under the influence of precipitates formed and changes in microstructure. The hurry for ecological practices and waste control has emerged as an obligation in modern times, demanding precise strategies to restrain waste accumulation and to stimulate recycling and reuse actions to lower the climate effect. The replacement of binary raw materials for porcelain chamotte waste in siliceous porcelain was studied to obtain eco-friendly high-voltage porcelain. Quartz and feldspar were progressively replaced by 5, 10, and 15 wt.% of porcelain chamotte in a conventional siliceous electro-technical porcelain composition. The replacement effect on sintered samples at 1250°C under industrial heat treatment was evaluated by measuring the linear shrinkage, bulk density, porosity, flexural strength, and microhardness technological properties. Phase analysis was carried out by X-ray diffraction. Microstructural characteristics were studied using a scanning electron microscope. The results showed that chamottecontaining samples reached bulk densities of about 2.36 g/cm3 and a porosity percentage near zero. The maximum flexural strength value at glazed states was 87.8 MPa, for 15 wt.% scrap-containing samples. X-ray diffraction studies revealed a higher mullite phase content in chamotte-containing samples. Scanning electronic microscopy images of the polished and etched specimens show the presence of quartz grains and secondary mullite needles embedded in a feldspathic vitreous matrix. The properties reached by the chamottecontaining samples are attractive since the values obtained in terms of flexural strength, density, and porosity are compared to those reported for conventional siliceous porcelain were obtained. The most noticeable result was observed in flexural resistance. The glazed porcelain bodies showed a flexural strength improvement of about 15%. Silty soil performs poorly when used in roads. Cement is generally used as a stabilizer to treat silty soil and enable it to meet the requirements for roadbed filling. However, cement is an environmentally unfriendly material and can cost much. Meanwhile, solid wastes of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS), fly ash (FA), and flue gas desulfurized (FGD) gypsum are produced in large quantities annually. Therefore, stabilizer A (cement:ground GBFS:fly ash:FGD gypsum = 30:44:15:11) and stabilizer B (cement:ground GBFS:fly ash:FGD gypsum = 40:38:13:9) were investigated in this study by reducing the cement content in the stabilizer and improving the utilization rate of solid wastes. The compressive strength development, California bearing ratio (CBR), temperature shrinkage, mineral composition, and micro-morphology of the stabilized silty soil were measured. The main findings are as follows: firstly, the addition of solid wastes can mitigate the adverse effect of delay time on compressive strength development. Secondly, the proposed stabilizers can significantly improve the CBR, which can reach 60% with a 4% dosage. Additionally, Stabilizer B is believed to improve the resistance to temperature shrinkage, and a higher stabilizer dosage can reduce the rate of decrease in water stability coefficient. Both X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscope observations show that the main hydration products that contribute to the stabilization are C-S-H and ettringite. In this study, the deposition of apatite on the surface of the glasses with a composition of 22.25Na2O--13.5CaO--2.5P2O5--6.75CaF2--(55-3x) SiO2--xSi3N4 (x is the no. of moles of Si3N4) (where x = 0-4), was studied to examine the influence of nitrogen content on their properties, bioactivity and viability. It was established that density, glass transition temperatures, Young's modulus of elasticity, Vicker's microhardness and fracture toughness increased significantly with increasing nitrogen concentration. Bioactivity was investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Hydroxyapatite (HCA) layer thickness was determined using a scanning electron microscope coupled with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The bioactivity of the glasses was evaluated by dipping them in a simulated body fluid (SBF) and demonstrated that all glasses are bioactive. Cytotoxicity tests using different concentrations of bioglass powders in a cell growth environment further demonstrated that they were not cytotoxic. The biofilm formation by two bacteria's E. coli and S. marcescens was characterized by the absorbance of crystal violet. The influence on the presence of bacteria in the form of biofilms appears to be affected by the combination of two main factors: glass reactivity and nitrogen content. High-entropy MAX phase (Ti 0.5 Nb 0.15 Zr 0.1 Mo 0.1 Ta 0.1 W 0.05) 2 AlC was synthesized via current-assisted sintering using Ti/Al/NbC/ZrC/MoC/TaC/WC as the raw material. The phase composition, microstructure, and elemental distribution are analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope with energy-dispersive spectrometer elemental analysis. The results obtained indicate that the as-synthesized bulk exhibits high purity with minimal elemental segregation at the grain boundary. The doped atoms caused numerous dislocations and severe lattice distortions in the crystal structure. By means of mechanical properties tests, the hardness, flexural strength, and fracture toughness of (Ti 0.5 Nb 0.15 Zr 0.1 Mo 0.1 Ta 0.1 W 0.05) 2 AlC are determined to be 9.3 ± 0.2 GPa, 433 ± 27 GPa, and 8.9 ± 0.3 MPa m1/2, respectively. High-strength metastable β titanium alloys are promising structural materials to be used in aviation industries. In order to achieve a high strength level, solid solution treatment within β region and subsequent low-temperature aging are usually necessary to obtain fine α precipitates. The selection of the aging temperature is considered critical to the mechanical performance of metastable β titanium alloys. In this work, we investigated the effect of aging temperature on the microscopic structure and mechanical properties of a novel type of titanium alloy TB18 (Ti-4.5Al-5Mo-5V-6Cr-1Nb). A series of aging treatments were conducted on TB18 specimens at 510 °C, 520 °C, 530 °C, and 540 °C after the solid solution treatment at 870 °C. On the basis of the systematic results of scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope, the behavior of the α phases affected by the varied aging temperatures were studied. As the aging temperature rose, the grain width of the α phase increased from 60 nm (510 °C) to 140 nm (540 °C). For the TB18 samples aged at 510 °C and 540 °C, the tensile strength/yield strength/impact toughness values were 1365 ± 3 MPa/1260 ± 0.9 MPa/26.5 ± 1.2 J/cm2 and 1240 ± 0.9 MPa/1138 ± 0.8 MPa/36.2 ± 1.3 J/cm2, respectively. As a result, the tensile performance and the grain width of the α phase agreed well with the Hall–Petch relationship. The most modern technique utilized to create intricate manufactured parts for a variety of applications is called additive manufacturing (AM). Fused deposition modeling (FDM) has been acknowledged as the greatest consideration in the development and industrial sectors. The main objective of this study was to investigate how printing factors affected the mechanical characteristics of printed samples. Samples were produced via an FDM 3D printer in compliance with an ASTM D638 using a variety of input settings, including orientation, layer thickness, speed, and infill pattern. Tensile tests and morphological analysis using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) were done on the printed samples. The results of this study demonstrate that factors including layer thickness, printing speed, and orientation significantly affect the tensile strength of the ABS-printed samples. The 45° orientations, 0.3 mm thickness, and normal speed had a significant impact on the tensile strength of the ABS-printed samples. On the other hand, samples with a 90° orientation, 0.4 mm thickness, and fast speed show better elongation performance than other samples, according to Young's modulus results. The SEM results for microscopic analysis show that samples S2 (loose infill, 45° orientation, 0.3 mm thickness, and normal speed), S5 (solid infill, 45° orientation, 0.3 mm thickness, and normal speed), and S8 (hollow infill, 45° orientation, 0.3 mm thickness, and normal speed) had a highly packed structure and robust. Banyan aerial root (BAR) powder was prepared from the aerial roots of a Banyan tree to modify epoxy resin using a magnetic stirrer. The modification was performed at different proportions of BAR powder, namely, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%, by weight. Composites were fabricated with modified and unmodified resins using a combination of hand lay-up and compression molding processes to evaluate the influence of BAR powders on their mechanical properties. The test results showed that BAR powder incorporation had a positive influence on the mechanical properties of the composites, as an increase in tensile, flexural, and impact strengths was observed, with the highest tensile and flexural properties of 407.81 MPa and 339 MPa, respectively, seen in composites with 4% BAR and the highest impact strength 194.02 kJ/m2 observed in the specimen with 6% BAR powder. Though the properties saw a dipping trend at higher weight proportions of the particulate, they were still significantly higher than the properties of laminates prepared with unmodified resin. Due to environmental concerns, there is an increasing need to reduce the use of synthetic and non-renewable packaging materials to reduce waste and increase sustainability. This study aimed to characterise sodium alginate edible-based films (SA) incorporated with laurel leaf extract (LLE) and olive leaf extract (OLE) obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction. Determination of total phenolic content, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activity was performed for the extracts and films. Also, thickness, tensile strength, elongation at break, modulus of elasticity, opacity and colour, moisture content, water vapour permeability (WVP), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra, and surface morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses were performed for the films. LLE yielded better results in terms of phenolic content (195 mg GAE/g), antioxidant (2.1 TE/g extract) and antimicrobial activity (MIC at 1% for Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, and 1.8% for Enterococcus faecalis). For the films, the simultaneous incorporation of LLE 1% (w/v) and OLE 1% (w/v) resulted in a significant reduction of approximately 2 log CFU/g against S. aureus. The addition of LLE and OLE extracts also proved to improve barrier properties (lower WVP for SA films with LLE 1% + OLE 1%, 3.49 × 10−11 g m−1 s−1 Pa−1) and promoted changes in resistance and flexibility. In this study, the primary factors affecting the performance of PcBN (Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) tool materials were investigated by high temperature/high pressure sintering through the variation of TiB 2 -Sialon volume ratio, the strength of TiB 2 -Sialon binder itself, as well as the matching of the average coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) with cBN (Cubic boron nitride). The effects of TiB 2 -Sialon on the phase composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of PcBN composites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), universal testing machine, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that the properties of TiB 2 -Sialon binder are analogous to those of the corresponding composites. The phase composition of PcBN composite is not affected by the change of volume ratio. It was found that prepared composite, have TiB 2 rod crystals growing along the (100) plane and Sialon rod crystals growing on the (001) plane. The influence of the volume ratio of TiB 2 -Sialon on the mechanical properties of the composites is principally concerned with the density, mechanical properties, and thermal expansion coefficient of the used binder. The extent to which the binder matches the coefficient of thermal expansion is favorable to the strength of the composite. When the volume ratio of TiB 2 to Sialon was 1:3, the hardness (25.21 GPa, 37.44 GPa) and toughness (7.09 Pa m1/2 and 7.48 Pa m1/2) of TiB 2 -Sialon binder/TiB 2 -Sialon-cBN composites reached the maximum value, and the optimal impact resistance was also achieved. The density of the binder and the composite material was maximized when the volume ratio is 1:4. The average thermal expansion coefficient of the binder hoc tempore matches comparatively with cBN, and the interface bonding is better, displaying the best flexural strength (805.30 MPa and 1059.60 MPa) and wear ratio (2005). In this paper, TiN-Ni nanostructured composite films with different Ni contents are prepared using the magnetron sputtering method. The composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of composite films are analyzed using an X-ray energy spectrometer (EDS), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction technology (XRD), a transmission electron microscope (TEM), and nanoindentation. All the films grow in a columnar crystal structure. There are only TiN diffraction peaks in the XRD spectrum, and no diffraction peaks of Ni and its compounds are observed. The addition of the Ni element disrupts the integrity of TiN lattice growth, resulting in a decrease in the grain size from 60 nm in TiN to 25 nm at 20.6% Ni. The film with a Ni content of 12.4 at.% forms a nanocomposite structure in which the nanocrystalline TiN phase (nc-TiN) is surrounded by the amorphous Ni (a-Ni) phase. The formation of nc-TiN/a-Ni nanocomposite structures relies on the good wettability of Ni on TiN ceramics. The hardness and elastic modulus of the film gradually decrease with the increase in Ni content, but the toughness is improved. The hardness and elastic modulus decrease from 19.9 GPa and 239.5 GPa for TiN film to 15.4 GPa and 223 GPa at 20.6 at.% Ni film, respectively, while the fracture toughness increases from 1.5 MPa·m1/2 to 2.0 MPa·m1/2. The soft and ductile Ni phase enriched at the TiN grain boundaries hinders the propagation of cracks in the TiN phase, resulting in a significant increase in the film's toughness. The research results of this paper provide support for the design of TiN-Ni films with high strength and toughness and the understanding of the formation mechanism of nanocomposite structures. Previous research has reported on hidden damage within the dentin introduced by cryopreservation, but the effect on the mechanical properties of the hard tissues at tooth level remains unclear. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of cryopreservation on the mechanical properties of teeth. A matched sample of 234 premolars of 117 children (9 ≤ age ≤ 16 years), bilaterally extracted for orthodontic reasons, were included. For each child, one tooth was randomly allocated to the cryopreservation group and the contralateral tooth was assigned to the control group. Static compression tests were performed to determine load to failure, stiffness, and toughness. In a subgroup of 20 teeth, a cyclic preloading or chewing simulation was performed. Additionally, the fracture mode was determined, and the microstructure of the fractured surfaces was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Linear mixed model analyses could not detect a statistical difference in the mean load to failure (p = 0.549), mean toughness (p = 0.968), or mean stiffness (p = 0.150) between cryopreserved and non-cryopreserved teeth. No significant difference in load to failure after cyclic preloading was detected between groups (p = 0.734). SEM analysis revealed comparable fracture characteristics between groups. It is concluded that cryopreservation does not affect the mean load to failure, stiffness, or toughness of teeth, indicating that hidden damage in the dentin is not critical at tooth level. The article presents the results of research on polymer composites based on polypropylene filled with various fillers. The physical and thermal properties of the composites are the result of the used polymer matrix as well as the properties and geometric features of the used filler. The geometric shape of the filler is particularly important in the processing of plastics in which the flow is forced, and high shearing tension occurs, which determines the high macromolecular orientation and specific arrangement of the filler particles. Thermal analysis (STA) was used in the research and photographs were taken using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) of fractures of polymer composites. The following fillers were used: talc, fibreglass, glass beads, and a halogen-free nitrogen-phosphorus flame retardant. The test material was obtained by extrusion. Shapes for strength tests, which were subjected to scanning microscopy tests after a static tensile test, were obtained by injection. The carried-out tests allowed us to determine the influence of the type and shape of individual fillers on structural changes in the structure of polypropylene composites and the degree of sample weight loss in a specific temperature range, depending on the used filler. The application of waste tire rubber in the concrete industry is one of the most effective and environmentally friendly ways to solve the problem of so-called black pollution. However, the application of rubber particles (RP) in the concrete industry is hindered by their low stiffness and poor bonding performance with the cement matrix. In this paper, a novel modification method of polydopamine (PDA) modification was used to enhance the hydrophilicity of the RP surface. The surface morphology, element content, and hydrophilicity of RP treated with PDA and KMnO4 were analyzed through scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS) and sedimentation methods. The unit weight, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), compressive strength, compressive toughness, toughness index, and flexural strength were taken to determine the mechanical properties of ultrahigh-performance rubber concrete (RUHPC). The results showed that the adhesion between paste and RP and the sedimentation rate of RP with PDA or KMnO4 treatment methods exhibited a remarkable improvement. Compared with unmodified RUHPC, the basic mechanical properties of KMnO4 -modified RUHPC were improved slightly, and its toughness index was improved greatly. SEM and EDS results confirmed that PDA was deposited on the surface of RP, eliminating the gap of interface transition zone and significantly enhancing UPV, compressive strength, and flexural strength of RUHPC by 4.1%–5.8%, 17%–20%, and 6.1%–9.8%, respectively. In addition, the compressive toughness of unmodified and KMnO4 -modified RUHPC decreased, whereas that of PDA-modified RUHPC increased significantly. It can be concluded that the mechanical properties of RUHPC with treated RP have improved significantly and the application of RP in ultrahigh-performance composites (UHPC) offers more opportunities for recycling RP. MgO-based cementitious materials have attracted increasing attentions due to their advantages of low energy consumption, fire resistance, and low CO2 emission. This study develops a new reactive MgO cement (RMC)-silica fume (SF) engineered cementitious composite (ECC). The effects of RMC∶SF mass ratio, fiber type, fiber content, and curing conditions on the mechanical properties and strain-hardening behavior of the RMC-SF ECC are investigated. The hydration characteristics of RMC-SF ECC under different curing conditions were studied through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. It was found that the RMC-SF ECC obtained a tensile strain capacity of 5.7%. Polyethylene (PE) fibers achieved higher compressive strength, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers yielded better tensile strain capacity. A RMC-SF mass ratio of 1∶1 obtained a higher ductility under high temperature curing at 50°C. Although carbon dioxide curing improves the mechanical properties of RMC-SF ECC due to the formation of MgCO3 , it greatly reduces its ductility. The purpose of this study was to understand the behavior of martensitic H13 steel in accordance with the microstructural evolution, mechanical properties and wear in repeated tempering cycles. The microstructures were characterized by an axio image observer microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Uniaxial tensile test, Charpy v-notch impact test, rockwell hardness test and wear test were conducted to analyze the changes in mechanical properties, impact properties, hardness and wear in repeated tempering cycles. The specimens prepared were subjected to hardening at 1030 °C for 20 minutes, oil quenched and subjected to repeated tempering cycles at 570 °C for 2hrs holding time each. The mechanical properties recorded indicate that the maximum ultimate tensile strength obtained was at double tempering due to secondary hardening effect i.e., alloy carbides precipitation offering strength to the matrix and corresponding wear was found to be minimum. The annealed specimen revealed bainitic microstructure and with hardening and repeated tempering cycles, fine needle like structure and carbides were observed in the microstructure and retained austenite was converted into martensite and martensite was converted into tempered martensite. Aluminum suffers from low hardness and some ductility when thermal sintering which requires reinforcement with carbide or ceramic materials as Iron FeC with volumetric properties (2,4,6,8,10)%. For purpose of the pressing process after mixing the two powder together, a scanning electron microscope examination performed for the prepared samples and found that there is a surface and structural consistency between aluminum and iron carbide and the best homogeneity is at 10% of carbide. Also some physical tests conducted for prepared samples and the results of the real density showed that the addition of iron carbide increases the density gradually and the highest density is 4.01 g/cm³ at a cementing ratio of 10% and after thermal sintering at 600 °C for two hours, the real porosity was obtained and under the same conditions by 9% while the water absorption was 0.583% the mechanical properties at the same conditions was the hardness 460Hv, the diagonal compressive strength 110 MPa, the wear was 2 × 10-8 g/cm, while the results of the electron microscope cleared that the ratio 10% is the best proportion in consistency with the surface and the external composition of the pistons in the terms of the least defects and pores. Polylactic acid (PLA) has been widely used in many fields because of its good biodegradability, biocompatibility, and renewability. This work studied the degradation behavior and mechanical properties of cellulose nanofiber (CNF)/PLA composites. In vitro degradation experiments of 3D-printed samples were conducted at elevated temperatures, and the degradation characteristics were evaluated by mechanical tests, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicated that the addition of CNF (0.5 wt%) accelerated the degradation rate of PLA. The decreases in number average molecular weight ( M n ) and weight average molecular weight  (M w)  of composites were 7.96% and 4.91% higher than that of neat PLA, respectively. Furthermore, the tensile modulus of composites was 18.4% higher than that of neat PLA, while the strength was 7.4% lower due to poor interfacial bonding between CNF and PLA. A mapping relationship between accelerated and normal degradation showed that the degradation experienced during 60 days at 37 °C was equivalent to that undergone during 14 days at 50 °C; this was achieved by examining the alteration in  M n . Moreover, the degradation process caused a notable deformation in the samples due to residual stress generated during the 3D printing process. Leucaena is a fast-growing tree in the legume family. Its leaf contains a significant amount of protein and is thus widely used as fodder for cattle. To broaden its application in the rubber field, the effects of Leucaena leaf powder and its extracted products on the cure characteristics and mechanical properties of natural rubber were investigated. The extraction of Leucaena leaf was carried out by using a proteolytic enzyme at 60 °C. The digested protein was separated from the residue by centrifugation. Both digested protein and residue were then dried and ground into powder, namely digested protein powder and residual powder, respectively, before being characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, particle size determination, and protein analysis. After being added to natural rubber at 3 parts per hundred rubber, they significantly reduced both the scorch time and the optimum cure time of the rubber compounds, probably due to the presence of nitrogen-containing substances, without a significant sacrifice of the mechanical properties. For instance, the optimum cure time decreased by approximately 25.5, 35.4, and 54.9% for Leucaena leaf powder, residual powder, and digested protein powder, respectively. In the aircraft industry, the high-strength aluminum alloys AA7075 and AA2024 are extensively used for the manufacture of structural parts like stringers and skins, respectively. Additive manufacturing (AM) of the AA7075-T6 aluminum alloy via friction stir deposition to build continuously multilayered parts on a substrate of AA2024-T4 aluminum has not been attempted so far. Accordingly, the present work aimed to explore the applicability of building multilayers of AA7075-T6 alloy on a substrate sheet of AA2024-T4 alloy via the additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) technique and to optimize the deposition process parameters. The experiments were conducted over a wide range of feed rates (1–5 mm/min) and rotation speeds (200–1000 rpm). The axial deposition force and the thermal cycle were recorded. The heat input to achieve the AFSD was calculated. The AA7075 AFSD products were evaluated visually on the macroscale. The microstructures were also investigated utilizing an optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an advanced EDS technique. As well as the presence phases, the mechanical performance of the deposited materials in terms of hardness and compressive strength was also examined. The results showed that the efficiency of the deposition process was closely related to the amount of heat generated, which was governed by the feeding rate, the rotational speed, and the downward force. AA7075 defect-free continuously multilayered parts were produced without any discontinuity defects at the interface with the substrate at deposition conditions of 1, 2, 3, and 4 mm/min and a constant 400 rpm consumable rod rotation speed (CRRS). The additively deposited AA7075-T6 layers exhibited a refined grain structure and uniformly distributed fragment precipitates compared to the base material (BM). The gain size decreased from 25 µm ± 4 for the AA7075-T6 BM to 1.75 µm ± 0.41 and 3.75 µm ± 0.78 for the AFSD materials fabricated at 1 and 4 mm/min deposition feeding rates, respectively, at 400 rpm/min. Among the feeding rates used, the 3 mm/min and 400 rpm rod rotation speed produced an AA7075 deposited part possessing the highest average hardness of 165 HV ± 5 and a compressive strength of 1320 MPa. Dissimilar metal samples of TC4/TiAl were successfully prepared by laser additive manufacturing (LAM) technology, with pure vanadium as the interlayer. The microstructure, phase composition, element distribution and mechanical properties at the interface of TC4/V and TiAl/V were analyzed by optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and backscattering diffraction (EBSD). The experimental results showed that the interface microstructure of TiAl/V is mainly composed of γ, α2 phase and V solid solution. The microstructure of the TC4/V interface is mainly composed of β-Ti and V solid solution. There are no holes, metallurgical defects or microcracks at the above two interfaces, and the interface is bonded well. With the increase in the number of deposition layers, the interface bonding depth increases, and its thickness increases from 30 μm to 80 μm. The mechanical properties tests showed that the tensile strength and elongation of dissimilar metals with two layers of V interlayer TC4/TiAl are the highest, and their values are 483 MPa and 0.35%, respectively. Compared with the one-layer V intermediate layer sample (tensile strength 405 MPa, elongation 0.24%), the tensile strength and elongation are increased by 19.2% and 45%, respectively. The tensile strength and elongation of dissimilar metals in three-layer V interlayer TC4/TiAl are the lowest, and their values are 350 MPa and 0.16%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although the benefits of polymeric blend films have been well-established, mucilages' interaction with other commercial bio-based polymers remains greatly unknown. Pectin and alginate were used to develop such polymeric blend films, with the addition of both 'Algerian' and 'Morado' cultivar freeze-dried, native mucilage precipitate. Mucilage additions at 0.25% and 1% (w/w), together with glycerol at 60% (w/w), influenced the mechanical properties of the 5% (w/w) pectin–mucilage and 5% (w/w) alginate–mucilage blend films differently. 'Morado' mucilage positively influenced the pectin film tensile strength (TS) and puncture force (PF) measurements, increasing the overall film strength compared to the homopolymeric pectin films. Calcium chloride (CaCl2) treatment and increasing mucilage concentration further enhanced the composite pectin–mucilage film strength. Contrasting results were obtained for alginate blend films compared to those of pectin. Studying the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the microstructures of CaCl2-treated pectin–mucilage and alginate–mucilage films confirmed superior microstructural film networks for pectin–mucilage films, which resulted in enhanced film strength, where the lack of polymer compatibility, as seen with alginate–mucilage, resulted in decreased film strength. These results indicate that native mucilage should be considered when developing such blend polymeric films, as it has the potential to enhance the films' strength and elasticity.
