Abstract

The article reports on the return of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group to the U.S. dollar market with a 2 billion U.S. dollar self-led offering of senior notes from its holding company. The timing of the bond issue was aided by a combination of strong market conditions and a lack of supply of British bank paper in the dollar market, according to David Hague of RBS Group. The bank initially targeted a 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in the thee-year paper.

The rates of investment returns of the U.S. in venture capital, commercial property, corporate bonds, consumer-price inflation and small-company shares are revealed. The trade deficit of Great Britain between 1992 and 1993 is discussed. Meanwhile, the 12-month trade surplus of Australia rose to $1.7 billion in January 1993, while its current account deficit declined to $8.6 billion over the same period.
