Postural stabilization is essential to effectively interact with our environment. Humans preemptively adjust their posture to counteract impending disturbances, such as those encountered during interactions with moving objects, a phenomenon known as anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs). APAs are thought to be influenced by predictive models that incorporate object motion via retinal motion and extraretinal signals. Building on our previous work that examined APAs in relation to the perceived momentum of moving objects, here we explored the impact of object motion within different visual field sectors on the human capacity to anticipate motion and prepare APAs for contact between virtual moving objects and the limb. Participants interacted with objects moving toward them under different gaze conditions. In one condition, participants fixated on either a central point (central fixation) or left-right of the moving object (peripheral fixation), whereas in another, they followed the moving object with smooth pursuit eye movements (SPEMs). We found that APAs had the smallest magnitude in the central fixation condition and that no notable differences in APAs were apparent between the SPEM and peripheral fixation conditions. This suggests that the visual system can accurately perceive motion of objects in peripheral vision for posture stabilization. Using Bayesian model averaging, we also evaluated the contribution of different gaze variables, such as eye velocity and gain (ratio of eye and object velocity) and showed that both eye velocity and gain signals were significant predictors of APAs. Taken together, our study underscores the roles of oculomotor signals in the modulation of APAs. NEW & NOTEWORTHY: We show that the human visuomotor system can detect motion in peripheral vision and make anticipatory adjustments to posture before contact with moving objects, just as effectively as when the eye movement system tracks those objects with smooth pursuit eye movements. Background: Clinical prediction models (CPM), such as the SCOAP-CERTAIN tool, can be utilized to enhance decision-making for lumbar spinal fusion surgery by providing quantitative estimates of outcomes, aiding surgeons in assessing potential benefits and risks for each individual patient. External validation is crucial in CPM to assess generalizability beyond the initial dataset. This ensures performance in diverse populations, reliability and real-world applicability of the results. Therefore, we externally validated the tool for predictability of improvement in oswestry disability index (ODI), back and leg pain (BP, LP). Methods: Prospective and retrospective data from multicenter registry was obtained. As outcome measure minimum clinically important change was chosen for ODI with ≥ 15-point and ≥ 2-point reduction for numeric rating scales (NRS) for BP and LP 12 months after lumbar fusion for degenerative disease. We externally validate this tool by calculating discrimination and calibration metrics such as intercept, slope, Brier Score, expected/observed ratio, Hosmer–Lemeshow (HL), AUC, sensitivity and specificity. Results: We included 1115 patients, average age 60.8 ± 12.5 years. For 12-month ODI, area-under-the-curve (AUC) was 0.70, the calibration intercept and slope were 1.01 and 0.84, respectively. For NRS BP, AUC was 0.72, with calibration intercept of 0.97 and slope of 0.87. For NRS LP, AUC was 0.70, with calibration intercept of 0.04 and slope of 0.72. Sensitivity ranged from 0.63 to 0.96, while specificity ranged from 0.15 to 0.68. Lack of fit was found for all three models based on HL testing. Conclusions: Utilizing data from a multinational registry, we externally validate the SCOAP-CERTAIN prediction tool. The model demonstrated fair discrimination and calibration of predicted probabilities, necessitating caution in applying it in clinical practice. Background: Chromosomal 1q gains and amplifications (+1q21) are frequently observed in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM). However, the interpretation of the high‐risk (HR) prognostic implications stemming from 1q21 abnormalities remain challenging to implement effectively. Methods: In a comprehensive analysis of 367 consecutive patients with symptomatic MM, we assessed the prognostic significance of +1q21 using FISH with a threshold of 7.4%. The patient cohort was randomly divided into a training set (66.5%, n = 244) and a validation set (33.5%, n = 133). A multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted to identify significant prognostic factors associated with PFS. Weight scores were assigned to each risk factor based on the β‐value of the corresponding regression coefficient. A predictive risk‐scoring model involving +1q21 was then developed, utilizing the total score derived from these weight scores. The model's discriminative ability was evaluated using the AUC in both the training and validation sets. Finally, we compared the performance of the +1q21‐involved risk with the established R‐ISS and R2‐ISS models. Results: Upon initial diagnosis, 159 patients (43.32%) exhibited +1q21, with 94 (59.11%) having three copies, referred to as Gain(1q21), and 65 (40.89%) possessing four or more copies, referred to as Amp (1q21). Both were significantly linked to a reduced PFS in myeloma (p < 0.05), which could be effectively mitigated by ASCT. The +1q21‐involved risk model, with an AUC of 0.697 in the training set and 0.725 in the validation set, was constructed including Gain(1q21), Amp(1q21), no‐ASCT, and TP53 deletion. This model, termed the ultra‐high‐risk (UHR) model, demonstrated superior performance in predicting shorter PFS compared to the R‐ISS stage 3 and R2‐ISS stage 4. Conclusion: The UHR model, which integrates the presence of +1q21 with no‐ASCT and TP53 deletion, is designed to identify the early relapse subgroup among patients with +1q21 in NDMM. In this work, we present a study about the application of bi-temporal, large interval aerial laser scans for constructing of tree growth models and estimating site index quality based on the measured increments from the laser scans. We compared two LiDAR scans with 14 years of difference in the national park area, where most areas are unmanaged. We derived the increment curve based on the Chapman-Richard growth formula. We used site index estimates from forest management plans from the national scale as the ground truth (both absolute and relative). We constructed three predictive models for site index estimates from bi-temporal scans, in modalities with and without stand age. Including the stand age improved all models, but even without the age, the models performed relatively well for differentiation between better and worse sites. At this moment, it is not directly possible to estimate age from remotely sensed data, but consistent monitoring, with laser scanning or photogrammetry, undoubtedly detects the harvest or dieback, so in the future, age can be considered as a variable easily estimated from remotely sensed data and so remote sensed material are viable source for understanding of forest growth and production. Background: Secure forensic hospital treatments are resource-intensive, aiming to rehabilitate offenders and enhance public safety. While these treatments consume significant portions of mental health budgets and show efficacy in some countries, their effectiveness in Czechia remains underexplored. Previous research has highlighted various factors influencing the likelihood of discharge from these institutions. Notably, the role of sociodemographic variables and the length of stay (LoS) in the context of forensic treatments has presented inconsistent findings across studies. Methods: The study, part of the 'Deinstitutionalization project' in Czechia, collected data from all inpatient forensic care hospitals. A total of 793 patients (711 male, 79 female and 3 unknown) were included. Data collection spanned 6 months, with tools like HoNOS, HoNOS-Secure, MOAS, HCR-20V3 and AQoL-8D employed to assess various aspects of patient health, behaviour, risk and quality of life. Results: The study revealed several determinants influencing patient discharge from forensic hospitals. Key assessment tools, such as HoNOS secure scores and the HCR-20 clinical subscale, showed that higher scores equated to lower chances of release. Furthermore, specific diagnoses like substance use disorder increased discharge odds, while a mental retardation diagnosis significantly reduced it. The type of index offense showed no influence on discharge decisions. Conclusion: Factors like reduced risk behaviours, absence of mental retardation diagnosis, social support and secure post-release housing plans played significant roles. The results underscored the importance of using standardized assessment tools over clinical judgement. Psychological distress in women represents a critical aspect; however, few studies have comprehensively addressed how health management strategies, consideration of future consequences (CFC), cognitive reappropriation, and self-efficacy may influence this phenomenon, especially in contexts that require a comprehensive approach to women's mental health. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of future consequence consideration, cognitive reappraisal, and self-efficacy in health management on psychological distress in American women, as well as to demonstrate their equivalence according to age. Data from 2788 women responding to the 2019 Health Information National Trends Survey 5, cycle 3 were used. A predictive model was considered using structural equation modeling (SEM). Cognitive reappraisal and self-efficacy in health management (SEHM) have a significant mediating effect between CFC and psychological distress. In addition, the invariance of the SEM model was presented as a function of age. The findings underscore the importance of incorporating cognitive components into mental health interventions for women, focusing on modifying thoughts and perceptions about the efficacy of health care to mitigate negative emotions. Contextual risk factors, such as adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), have a significant impact on the mental health of Black youth. Surprisingly, few studies focus efforts specifically on Black youth. The present study investigates the influence of ACEs on psychological distress among Black youth. Additionally, guided by social cognitive theory, this study highlights emotional self-control as a protective mechanism against the negative consequences of ACEs. Our findings show that ACEs (T1) predicted psychological distress among Black youth a year later (T2). Emotional self-control emerged as a significant buffer of ACEs on the association with psychological distress. Thus, to prevent negative mental health outcomes for Black youth, it is imperative to focus prevention efforts on the crucial risk factors that affect healthy development. Purpose: The current study used behavioral measures of discourse complexity and story recall accuracy in an expository discourse task to distinguish older adults testing within range of cognitive impairment according to a standardized cognitive screening tool in a sample of self-reported healthy older adults. Method: Seventy-three older adults who self-identified as healthy completed an expository discourse task and neuropsychological screener. Discourse data were used to classify participants testing within range of cognitive impairment using multiple machine learning algorithms and stability analysis for identifying reliably predictive features in an effort to maximize prediction accuracy. We hypothesized that a higher rate of pronoun use and lower scores on story recall would best classify older adults testing within range of cognitive impairment. Results: The highest classification accuracy exploited a single variable in a remarkably intuitive way: using 66% story recall as a cutoff for cognitive impairment. Forcing this decision tree model to use more features or increasing its complexity did not improve accuracy. Permutation testing confirmed that the 77% accuracy and 0.18 Brier skill score achieved by the model were statistically significant (p < .00001). Conclusions: These results suggest that expository discourse tasks that place demands on executive functions, such as working memory, can be used to identify aging adults who test within range of cognitive impairment. Accurate representation of story elements in working memory is critical for coherent discourse. Background: Sorafenib is the standard treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with advanced stage disease. An accurate prediction model is important to ascertain the prognosis of HCC patients treated with sorafenib. This study aimed to predict the outcome of HCC patients treated with sorafenib using ACLR and HALP scores. Methods: This Observational Retrospective Cohort Study was conducted on 110 Patients with HCC patients from January 2015 to December 2022 at Medical Oncology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University. Results: HALP and ACLR score were significantly associated with treatment outcome among HCC patients treated with sorafenib. HALP was a predictor for treatment outcome among HCC patients treated with sorafenib at cut off point of 42.9 with sensitivity of 75.7% and specificity of 86.3%. ACLR was a predictor for treatment outcome among HCC patients treated with sorafenib at cut off point of 75.6 with sensitivity of 78.4% and specificity of 82.2%. High HALP score indicates better prognosis with a cut off of 42.9. Low ACLR indicates better prognosis with a cut of 75.6. Conclusion: Both HALP and ACLR scores can be used as valid prognostic scores for independently predicting the overall prognosis in HCC patients treated with Sorafenib. Having a low HALP score indicates worse prognosis, while, our results showed that the cut off for ACLR 75.6 .. but high and low score didn't show any significance in predicting the PFS or OS but they show significant sensitivity and specificity. In many practical problems, there is interest in the estimation of mixed effect projections for new data that are outside the range of the training data. Examples include predicting extreme small area means for rare populations or making treatment decisions for patients who do not fit typical risk profiles. Standard methods have long been known to struggle with such problems since the training data may not provide enough information about potential model changes for these new data values (extrapolation bias). We propose a new framework called Prediction Using Random-effect Extrapolation (PURE) which involves constructing a generalized independent variable hull (gIVH) to isolate a minority training set which is "close" to the prediction space, followed by a regrouping of the minority data according to the response variable which results in a new (but misspecified) random effect distribution. This misspecification reflects "extrapolated random effects" which prove vital to capture information that is needed for accurate model projections. Projections are then made using classified mixed model prediction (CMMP) (?) with the regrouped minority data. Comprehensive simulation studies and analysis of data from the National Longitudinal Mortality Study (NLMS) demonstrate superior predictive performance in these very challenging paradigms. Overbreak is a prevalent and detrimental phenomenon in hard rock tunnel excavation that escalates construction costs and compromises tunnel structural stability. Therefore, accurate prediction of overbreak during excavation is significant for cost reduction and risk mitigation. This study introduces an efficient metaheuristic method, namely the honey badger algorithm (HBA), for optimizing the light gradient boosting machine (LGBM) model, and proposes an explicit equation for the prediction of overbreak based on gene expression programming (GEP) technology. Utilizing a dataset comprising 523 overbreak cases collected from the Huxitai (HXT) tunnel in China, this study conducts the modeling of overbreak prediction and assesses the model's performance through various metrics and non-parametric statistical tests. The results indicate that the HBA-LGBM hybrid model developed herein achieves the highest coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9472 among the tested models, while the GEP model reaches a R2 of 0.9275. Clearly, the overbreak prediction model constructed in this paper shows superior overall performance, and the comparative analysis of multiple models also highlights HBA's significant advantage in mitigating overfitting. Lastly, various interpretive techniques were applied to analyze the impact of input variables on overbreak, providing insights into the decision-making principles of the predictive model from both global and individual case levels. The analysis revealed that the total charge (TC) and powder factor (PF) are the most influential blasting parameters on overbreak occurrence. Furthermore, a graphical user interface for testing purposes was developed and showcased. In summary, the overbreak models established in this study effectively predict tunnel overbreak caused by blasting, demonstrating superior predictive performance and interpretability compared to previous efforts. This study investigated whether the use of peak force (PF) obtained from multiple joint positions during isometric squat (IsoSqt) can predict of 1-repetition maximum (1RM) squat with high precision. Twenty-nine male and female resistance-trained athletes (age = 23.0 ± 3.7 years, height = 1.57 ± 0.06 m, body mass = 56.6 ± 9.1 kg, 1RM squat = 104.6 ± 24.2) performed the 1RM squat, and IsoSqt at 60°, 90°, and 120° knee angles on 3 separate occasions. Peak force obtained from IsoSqt at all positions significantly correlated with 1RM squat (r = 0.684-0.940, p < 0.05). Linear regression analysis based on group data showed r² = 0.903, based on male data only, r² = 0.826, and based on female data only, r² = 0.855. Predicted 1RM squat using linear regression equations based on group, male-only, and female-only data showed nonsignificant differences of 0.02-0.6% from actual 1RM squat (p = 0.812-0.947, 95% CI = -8.00 to 10.08), with error of estimate of 1.5-2.3%. In addition, Bland-Altman analysis showed a mean bias of -1.04 to 0.35 kg, 95% CI = -10.08 to 8.00 kg. The results showed that using PF obtained from IsoSqt at multiple positions was able to predict 1RM squat with low difference from actual 1RM squat. Purpose: Target word activation in picture naming was explored in children who stutter (CWS) and typically fluent children (TFC) using event-related potentials (ERPs). Method: A total of 18 CWS and 16 TFC completed a task combining picture naming and probe word identification. On each trial, a picture-to-be-named was followed by an auditory probe word-to-be-identified; the probe was identical (Identity condition) or Unrelated to the picture name. ERPs were recorded from probe onset. Attenuation of the N400 ERP component was predicted to Identity versus Unrelated trials (N400 priming). Between-groups differences in amplitude, timing, and topography of N400 priming were explored. Results: Naming was more accurate on Identity versus Unrelated trials. Probe word identification accuracy was not affected by Condition. N400 priming was detected, indicating that self-generated picture names facilitated semantic processing of identical probes. This effect was larger in amplitude in CWS versus TFC. Unexpectedly, an N400-preceding, frontally maximal, positive-going ERP component--associated with expectancy processing--was larger in amplitude to Unrelated versus Identity trials. This effect was smaller in CWS versus TFC. Conclusions: A larger N400 priming effect in CWS versus TFC reflects a tendency toward more extensive semantic processing in picture naming in CWS. A smaller Condition effect on frontally maximal, positive-going, N400-preceding ERP activity in CWS versus TFC indicates a reduced ability to form expectancies about the lexical and/or phonological identity of probe words in CWS. A predictive model utilizing near-infrared spectroscopy was developed to estimate the loss on drying, total contents of crocin I and crocin II, and picrocrocin content of saffron. Initially, the LD values were determined using a moisture-ash analyzer, while HPLC was employed for measuring the total contents of crocin I, crocin II, and picrocrocin. The near-infrared spectra of 928 saffron samples were collected and preprocessed using first derivative, standard normal variable transformation, detrended correction, multivariate scattering correction, Savitzky–Golay smoothing, and mean centering methods. Leveraging the partial least squares method, regression models were constructed, with parameters optimized through a selective combination of the above six preprocessing methods. Subsequently, prediction models for loss on drying, total contents of crocin I and crocin II, and picrocrocin content were established, and the prediction accuracy of the models was verified. The correlation coefficients and root mean square error of loss on drying, total contents of crocin I and crocin II, and picrocrocin content demonstrated high accuracy, with R2 values of 0.8627, 0.8851, and 0.8592 and root mean square error values of 0.0260, 0.0682, and 0.0465. This near-infrared prediction model established in the present study offers a precise and efficient means of assessing loss on drying, total contents of crocin I and crocin II, and picrocrocin content in saffron and is useful for the development of a rapid quality evaluation system. This work proposed a liver cancer classification scheme that includes Preprocessing, Feature extraction, and classification stages. The source images are pre-processed using Gaussian filtering. For segmentation, this work proposes a LUV transformation-based adaptive thresholding-based segmentation process. After the segmentation, certain features are extracted that include multi-texon based features, Improved Local Ternary Pattern (LTP-based features), and GLCM features during this phase. In the Classification phase, an improved Deep Maxout model is proposed for liver cancer detection. The adopted scheme is evaluated over other schemes based on various metrics. While the learning rate is 60%, an improved deep maxout model achieved a higher F-measure value (0.94) for classifying liver cancer; however, the previous method like Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Deep maxout, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and DL model holds less F-measure value. An improved deep maxout model achieved minimal False Positive Rate (FPR), and False Negative Rate (FNR) values with the best outcomes compared to other existing models for liver cancer classification. Background: The term "super responder" identifies a group of patients who exhibit a rapid and optimal response to biological treatment compared to the overall treated population. The primary objective of our study is to characterize this subgroup of patients to enable the early identification of those who will respond most effectively to the proposed treatment while also evaluating clinical efficacy. Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 232 patients treated with guselkumab in monotherapy for at least 20 weeks between November 2018 and November 2023. Patients were divided into two groups: those who achieved complete clear skin (PASI = 0) during the first 20 weeks of treatment were defined as super responders (SRe) and non-super responders (nSRe) were the remaining patients. PASI was assessed at weeks 0, 4, and subsequently every eight weeks. Predictors of the SRe status were evaluated by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: The univariate analyses showed that patients with psoriatic arthritis at the baseline, bio-naïve patients, or those who had not received an interleukin (IL) 17 inhibitor as their last therapy before guselkumab administration were more likely to be super responders to the proposed treatment. Multivariate logistic analysis models suggested that the combination of psoriatic arthritis at the baseline and the bio-naïve condition was the strongest predictive model for the SRe status. At week 204, the main difference between the two groups concerned the achievement of PASI100, maintained by 86.8 of SRe compared to 62.8% of nSRe. Conclusions: The efficacy and safety of guselkumab are confirmed in our real-life experience. Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) involves significant mood and energy shifts reflected in speech patterns. Detecting these patterns is crucial for diagnosis and monitoring, currently assessed subjectively. Advances in natural language processing offer opportunities to objectively analyze them. Aims: To (i) correlate speech features with manic-depressive symptom severity in BD, (ii) develop predictive models for diagnostic and treatment outcomes, and (iii) determine the most relevant speech features and tasks for these analyses. Methods: This naturalistic, observational study involved longitudinal audio recordings of BD patients at euthymia, during acute manic/depressive phases, and after-response. Patients participated in clinical evaluations, cognitive tasks, standard text readings, and storytelling. After automatic diarization and transcription, speech features, including acoustics, content, formal aspects, and emotionality, will be extracted. Statistical analyses will (i) correlate speech features with clinical scales, (ii) use lasso logistic regression to develop predictive models, and (iii) identify relevant speech features. Results: Audio recordings from 76 patients (24 manic, 21 depressed, 31 euthymic) were collected. The mean age was 46.0 ± 14.4 years, with 63.2% female. The mean YMRS score for manic patients was 22.9 ± 7.1, reducing to 5.3 ± 5.3 post-response. Depressed patients had a mean HDRS-17 score of 17.1 ± 4.4, decreasing to 3.3 ± 2.8 post-response. Euthymic patients had mean YMRS and HDRS-17 scores of 0.97 ± 1.4 and 3.9 ± 2.9, respectively. Following data pre-processing, including noise reduction and feature extraction, comprehensive statistical analyses will be conducted to explore correlations and develop predictive models. Conclusions: Automated speech analysis in BD could provide objective markers for psychopathological alterations, improving diagnosis, monitoring, and response prediction. This technology could identify subtle alterations, signaling early signs of relapse. Outliers are a common problem in applied statistics, together with multicollinearity. In this paper, robust Liu estimators are introduced into a partially linear model to combat the presence of multicollinearity and outlier challenges when the error terms are not independent and some linear constraints are assumed to hold in the parameter space. The Liu estimator is used to address the multicollinearity, while robust methods are used to handle the outlier problem. In the literature on the Liu methodology, obtaining the best value for the biased parameter plays an important role in model prediction and is still an unsolved problem. In this regard, some robust estimators of the biased parameter are proposed based on the least trimmed squares (LTS) technique and its extensions using a semidefinite programming approach. Based on a set of observations with a sample size of n, and the integer trimming parameter h ≤ n, the LTS estimator computes the hyperplane that minimizes the sum of the lowest h squared residuals. Even though the LTS estimator is statistically more effective than the widely used least median squares (LMS) estimate, it is less complicated computationally than LMS. It is shown that the proposed robust extended Liu estimators perform better than classical estimators. As part of our proposal, using Monte Carlo simulation schemes and a real data example, the performance of robust Liu estimators is compared with that of classical ones in restricted partially linear models. How to effectively predict outcomes when initial time series data are limited remains unclear. This study investigated the efficiency of Bayesian model selection to address the lack of initial data for time series analysis, particularly in cold-start scenarios—a common challenge in predictive modeling. Time-series data are prevalent across various fields and present unique challenges for deep learning models due to irregular time intervals and missing records, which hinder the ability to capture temporal information effectively. This study proposes ChronoVectors, a novel temporal representation method that addresses these challenges by enabling a more specialized encoding of temporal relationships through the use of learnable parameters tailored to the dataset's dynamics while maintaining consistent time intervals post-scaling. The theoretical demonstration shows that ChronoVectors allow the transformed encoding tensors to map moments in time to continuous spaces, accommodating potentially infinite extensions of the sequence and preserving temporal consistency. In recent years, the ability to accurately predict age and gender from facial images has gained significant traction across various fields such as personalized marketing, human–computer interaction, and security surveillance. However, the high computational cost of the current models limits their practicality for real-time applications on resource-constrained devices. This study addressed this challenge by leveraging knowledge distillation to develop lightweight age and gender prediction models that maintain a high accuracy. We propose a knowledge distillation method using teacher bounds for the efficient learning of small models for age and gender. This method allows the student model to selectively receive the teacher model's knowledge, preventing it from unconditionally learning from the teacher in challenging age/gender prediction tasks involving factors like illusions and makeup. Our experiments used MobileNetV3 and EfficientFormer as the student models and Vision Outlooker (VOLO)-D1 as the teacher model, resulting in substantial efficiency improvements. MobileNetV3-Small, one of the student models we experimented with, achieved a 94.27% reduction in parameters and a 99.17% reduction in Giga Floating Point Operations per Second (GFLOPs). Furthermore, the distilled MobileNetV3-Small model improved gender prediction accuracy from 88.11% to 90.78%. Our findings confirm that knowledge distillation can effectively enhance model performance across diverse demographic groups while ensuring efficiency for deployment on embedded devices. Wild rice (Zizania aquatica and Zizania palustris) has been an integral component of Michigan wetlands for thousands of years, but is disappearing today due to habitat loss. Identifying suitable habitats and associated environmental conditions for wild rice viability is a critical step toward guiding ongoing restoration efforts statewide. To this end, we used maximum entropy (Maxent), a presence‐only species distribution model, to characterize habitat preferences of wild rice in Michigan and identify suitable habitats for restoration. Extant wild rice occurrences were mapped alongside 11 environmental variables using Maxent to determine probabilities of occurrence throughout the state. The Maxent model (AUC > 0.9) predicted the highest probabilities of wild rice occurrence in the western and southwestern regions of the state. Climatic variables, biotic interactions, and anthropogenic disturbances were all found to influence wild rice occurrence, with land cover, lower May precipitation, and minimum winter temperatures having the highest contributions to model predictions. The results of this study suggest that statewide restoration of wild rice in Michigan may be possible, although localized differences in environmental conditions should be accounted for when selecting restoration sites. With further refinement and the inclusion of more key environmental predictors of wild rice viability, habitat suitability models such as the one created in this study may be powerful and effective tools in guiding wild rice restoration efforts nationally. Existing control strategies, such as Real-time Optimization (RTO), Dynamic Real-time Optimization (DRTO), and Economic Model Predictive Control (EMPC) cannot enable optimal operation and control behavior in an optimal fashion. This work proposes a novel control strategy, named the efficiency-oriented model predictive control (MPC), which can fully realize the potential of the optimization margin to improve the global process performance of the whole system. The ideas of optimization margin and optimization efficiency are first proposed to measure the superiority of the control strategy. Our new efficiency-oriented MPC innovatively uses a nested optimization structure to optimize the optimization margin directly online. To realize the computation, a Periodic Approximation technique is proposed, and an Efficiency-Oriented MPC Type I is constructed based on the Periodic Approximation. In order to alleviate the strict constraint of Efficiency-Oriented MPC Type I, the zone-control-based optimization concept is used to construct an Efficiency-Oriented MPC Type II. These two well-designed efficiency-oriented controllers were compared with other control strategies over a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) application. The simulation results show that the proposed control strategy can generate superior closed-loop process performance, for example, and the Efficiency-Oriented MPC Type I can obtain 7.11% higher profits than those of other control strategies; the effectiveness of the efficiency-oriented MPC was, thereby, demonstrated. Surface electromyography (sEMG) offers a novel method in human–machine interactions (HMIs) since it is a distinct physiological electrical signal that conceals human movement intention and muscle information. Unfortunately, the nonlinear and non-smooth features of sEMG signals often make joint angle estimation difficult. This paper proposes a joint angle prediction model for the continuous estimation of wrist motion angle changes based on sEMG signals. The proposed model combines a temporal convolutional network (TCN) with a long short-term memory (LSTM) network, where the TCN can sense local information and mine the deeper information of the sEMG signals, while LSTM, with its excellent temporal memory capability, can make up for the lack of the ability of the TCN to capture the long-term dependence of the sEMG signals, resulting in a better prediction. We validated the proposed method in the publicly available Ninapro DB1 dataset by selecting the first eight subjects and picking three types of wrist-dependent movements: wrist flexion (WF), wrist ulnar deviation (WUD), and wrist extension and closed hand (WECH). Finally, the proposed TCN-LSTM model was compared with the TCN and LSTM models. The proposed TCN-LSTM outperformed the TCN and LSTM models in terms of the root mean square error (RMSE) and average coefficient of determination (R2). The TCN-LSTM model achieved an average RMSE of 0.064, representing a 41% reduction compared to the TCN model and a 52% reduction compared to the LSTM model. Combining medical IoT and artificial intelligence technology is an effective approach to achieve the intelligence of medical equipment. This integration can address issues such as low image quality caused by fluctuations in power quality and potential equipment damage, and this study proposes a predictive model, ISSA-TCN-BiLSTM, based on a bi-directional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM). Firstly, power quality data and other data from MRI and CT equipment within a 6-month period are collected using current fingerprint technology. The key factors affecting the active power of medical equipment are explored using the Pearson coefficient method. Subsequently, a Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN) is employed to conduct multi-layer convolution operations on the input temporal feature sequences, enabling the learning of global temporal feature information while minimizing the interference of redundant data. Additionally, bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) is integrated to model the intermediate active power features, facilitating accurate prediction of medical equipment power quality. Additionally, an improved Sparrow Search Algorithm (ISSA) is utilized for hyperparameter optimization of the TCN-BiLSTM model, enabling optimization of the active power of different medical equipment. Experimental results demonstrate that the ISSA-TCN-BiLSTM model outperforms other comparative models in terms of RMSE, MSE, and R2, with values of 0.1143, 0.1157, 0.0873, 0.0817, 0.95, and 0.96, respectively, for MRI and CT equipment. Neurosurgical tumor resection was demonstrated as an effective treatment of seizures in meningioma patients but is also associated with a moderate risk of new-onset seizures after surgery. The present study identified several independent predictors for seizures in meningioma that could contribute to improved seizure treatment and a deeper understanding of the occurrence of seizures in meningioma patients. Seizure is a common symptom of meningioma that has a major impact on patients' quality of life. The purpose of this study was to identify predictive factors for the occurrence of preoperative and postoperative seizures. The data of patients with resection of histologically confirmed meningioma at University Hospital Leipzig from 2009 to 2018 were retrospectively examined. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses of different factors influencing seizure outcome were performed. The male gender was identified as an independent positive predictor for preoperative seizures (odds ratio [OR] 1.917 [95% confidence interval {CI} 1.044–3.521], p = 0.036), whereas headache (OR 0.230 [95% CI 0.091–0.582], p = 0.002) and neurological deficits (OR 0.223; [95% CI 0.121–0.410], p < 0.001) were demonstrated to be negative predictive factors. However, given the non-linear dependencies between patient- and tumor-related risk factors contributing to cumulative surgical risk, machine learning (ML) may evolve as a novel and more integrated approach for mortality prediction. We evaluated the IESG risk model and compared its performance to ML models. Multiple classifiers were trained and validated on 552 patients from two independent centers undergoing oncologic esophagectomies. The discrimination performance of each model was assessed utilizing the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC), the area under the precision–recall curve (AUPRC), and the Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC). The 90-day mortality rate was 5.8%. We found that IESG categorization allowed for adequate group-based risk prediction. However, ML models provided better discrimination performance, reaching superior AUROCs (0.64 [0.63–0.65] vs. 0.44 [0.32–0.56]), AUPRCs (0.25 [0.24–0.27] vs. 0.11 [0.05–0.21]), and MCCs (0.27 ([0.25–0.28] vs. 0.15 [0.03–0.27]). Background: Currently, prostate cancer (PCa) prebiopsy medical image diagnosis mainly relies on mpMRI and PI-RADS scores. However, PI-RADS has its limitations, such as inter- and intra-radiologist variability and the potential for imperceptible features. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a machine learning model based on radiomics analysis of MRI T2-weighted (T2w) images for predicting PCa in prebiopsy cases. Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted using 820 lesions (363 cases, 457 controls) from The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) Database for model development and validation. An additional 83 lesions (30 cases, 53 controls) from Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital were used for independent external validation. The MRI T2w images were preprocessed, and radiomic features were extracted. Feature selection was performed using Cross Validation Least Angle Regression (CV-LARS). Using three different machine learning algorithms, a total of 18 prediction models and 3 shape control models were developed. The performance of the models, including the area under the curve (AUC) and diagnostic values such as sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV), were compared to the PI-RADS scoring system for both internal and external validation. Results: All the models showed significant differences compared to the shape control model (all p < 0.001, except SVM model PI-RADS+2 Features p = 0.004, SVM model PI-RADS+3 Features p = 0.002). In internal validation, the best model, based on the LR algorithm, incorporated 3 radiomic features (AUC = 0.838, sensitivity = 76.85%, specificity = 77.36%). In external validation, the LR (3 features) model outperformed PI-RADS in predictive value with AUC 0.870 vs. 0.658, sensitivity 56.67% vs. 46.67%, specificity 92.45% vs. 84.91%, PPV 80.95% vs. 63.64%, and NPV 79.03% vs. 73.77%. In this paper, a consensus-based model predictive control (Cb-MPC) scheme is proposed to control the active power and voltage at all nodes in grid-connected active distribution networks (ADNs) with multiple distributed energy resources (DERs). The proposed design methodology is based on a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) model of an ADN which accounts for both the internal and external interactions among the control loops of the DERs. To achieve the control objective, each DER unit is equipped with a controller–observer system. In particular, the observer implements the consensus algorithm to estimate the collective system state by exchanging data only with its neighbors. The scope of the controller is to solve the MPC optimal problem based on its collective state estimate, and, due to the presence of an integral term in the control action, it is robust against any unknown scenarios of the ADN, which are represented by uncertainty in the model parameters. The results of numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in the presence of unknown changes in the operating conditions of the ADN and of communication using a sample and hold function. To improve the performance of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor control system, a Markov decision model predictive current control strategy based on a lumped disturbances sliding mode disturbance observer is proposed in this paper. A fast terminal sliding mode disturbance observer based on a recursive integral sliding surface is designed to observe and compensate the unideal factors in the motor control system unified as lumped disturbances. Then, according to the characteristic of model predictive control where only the first vector in the optimal control sequence is selected and applied to the system during rolling optimization, the discounted cost criterion based on the Markov decision process is introduced to enhance the control performance of the system. The compensation of lumped disturbances can eliminate the impact of unideal factors, enhance the dynamic performance of the speed loop, and eliminate the static errors in the current loop. The introduction of the discounted cost criterion can reduce the fluctuations in system states without affecting the system's dynamic performance. Forecasting the electricity market, even in the short term, is a difficult task, due to the nature of this commodity, the lack of storage capacity, and the multiplicity and volatility of factors that influence its price. The sensitivity of the market results in the appearance of anomalies in the market, during which forecasting models often break down. The aim of this paper is to present the possibility of using hybrid machine learning models to forecast the price of electricity, especially when such events occur. It includes the automatic detection of anomalies using three different switch types and two independent forecasting models, one for use during periods of stable markets and the other during periods of anomalies. The results of empirical tests conducted on data from the Polish energy market showed that the proposed solution improves the overall quality of prediction compared to using each model separately and significantly improves the quality of prediction during anomaly periods. To enhance the stability of photovoltaic power grid integration and improve power prediction accuracy, a photovoltaic power prediction method based on an improved snow ablation optimization algorithm (Good Point and Vibration Snow Ablation Optimizer, GVSAO) and Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) network is proposed. Weather data is divided into three typical categories using K-means clustering, and data normalization is performed using the minmax method. The key structural parameters of Bi-LSTM, such as the feature dimension at each time step and the number of hidden units in each LSTM layer, are optimized based on the Good Point and Vibration strategy. A prediction model is constructed based on GVSAO-Bi-LSTM, and typical test functions are selected to analyze and evaluate the improved model. The research results show that the average absolute percentage error of the GVSAO-Bi-LSTM prediction model under sunny, cloudy, and rainy weather conditions are 4.75%, 5.41%, and 14.37%, respectively. When using point-by-point data input with former series models for wind power prediction, the prediction accuracy decreases due to data distribution shifts and the inability to extract local information. To address these issues, this paper proposes an ultra-short-term wind power prediction model based on the Z-score (ZS), Dish-TS (DT), and Patch time series Transformer (PatchTST). Firstly, to reduce the impact of data distribution shift on prediction accuracy, ZS standardization is applied to both training and testing datasets. Additionally, the DT algorithm, which can self-learn the mean and variance, is introduced for window data standardization. Secondly, the PatchTST model is employed to convert point input data into local-level input data. Feature extraction is then performed using the multi-head attention mechanism in the Encoder layer and a feed-forward network composed of one-dimensional convolution to obtain the prediction results. These results are subsequently de-standardized using DT and ZS to restore the original data amplitude. Finally, experimental analysis is conducted, comparing the proposed ZS-DT-PatchTST model with various prediction models. In urban building management, accurate prediction of building energy consumption is significant in realizing energy conservation and improving energy efficiency. Due to the complexity and variability of energy consumption data, existing prediction models face the challenge of difficult parameter selection, which directly affects their accuracy and application. To solve this problem, this study proposes an improved particle swarm algorithm (IPSO) for optimizing the parameters of the least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) and constructing an energy consumption prediction model based on IPSO-LSSVM. The model fully combines the advantages of LSSVM in terms of nonlinear fitting and generalization ability and uses the IPSO algorithm to adjust the parameters precisely. By analyzing the sample data characteristics and validating them on two different types of building energy consumption datasets, the results of the study show that, compared with traditional baseline models such as back-propagation neural networks (BP) and support vector regression (SVR), the model proposed in this study is more accurate and efficient in parameter selection and significantly reduces the prediction error rate. The forecast of the optimal placement of a charging station (CS) according to the real-time consumption of electric vehicles is a subject of urgency in this new era. The demand of a charging station in an area based on the trend of consumption can be predicted by means of interpolation and the extrapolation of historical data using a linear function of prediction model. The prediction of the charging station system was performed with distance relevancy methods. An adaptive optimal learning model was proposed to enhance the prediction performance for charging station management and to represent the pattern of vehicles' travelling directions. The proposed model uses Distributional Homogeneity Feature Optimization (DHFO) using artificial intelligence (AI) to categorize and forecast the charging station from the database. The prediction performance of this model is improved more than the conventional classification model by filtering the apt features from all the electric vehicular and charging station attributes in the database. Floating photovoltaic (FPV) systems are gaining popularity as a valuable means of harnessing solar energy on unused water surfaces. However, a significant gap persists in our comprehension of their thermal dynamics and the purported cooling benefits they provide. The lack of comprehensive monitoring data across different climatic regions and topographies aggravates this uncertainty. This paper reviews the applicability of established module temperature prediction models, originally developed for land-based PV systems, to FPVs. It then details the refinement of these models using FPV-specific data and their subsequent validation through large-scale, ongoing FPV projects. The result is a significant improvement in the accuracy of temperature predictions, as evidenced by the reduced Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and improved R-squared ( R 2 ) after parameter optimisation. This reduction means that the tailored models better reflect the distinct environmental influences and cooling processes characteristic of FPV systems. The results not only confirm the success of the proposed method in refining the accuracy of current models, but also indicate significant post-tuning changes in the parameters representing wind and convective effects. These adjustments highlight the increased responsiveness of FPVs to convective actions, especially when compared to ground-based systems, possibly due to the evaporative cooling effect of bodies of water. This article addresses the issue of selecting appropriate (preferred) methods for forecasting energy generation from a solar power plant within a 15 min time horizon. The effectiveness of various machine learning methods was verified. Additionally, the effectiveness of proprietary ensemble and hybrid methods was proposed and examined. The research also aimed to determine the appropriate sets of input variables for the predictive models. Ceramic slurry is the raw material used in stereolithography, and its performance determines the printing quality. Rheological behavior, one of the most important physical factors in stereolithography, is critical in ceramic printing, significantly affecting the flow, spreading, and printing processes. The rheological behavior of SiO2 slurry used in stereolithography technology is investigated in the current research using different powder diameters and temperatures. The results present the apparent non-Newtonian behavior. The yielding characteristics occur in all cases. For single-powder cases, the viscosity decreases when the powder diameter is increased. When the nano-sized and micro-sized powders are mixed in different proportions, a more significant proportion of micron-sized powders will decrease the viscosity. With an increase in the nano-sized powders, the slurry exhibits the shear thinning behavior; otherwise, the shear thickening behavior is observed. Thus, the prediction model is built based on the use of the pelican optimization algorithm-deep extreme learning machine (POA-DELM), and the model in then compared with the fitted and traditional models to validate the effectiveness of the method. The transmission of high-frequency signals over long distances depends on the ionosphere's reflective properties, with the selection of operating frequencies being closely tied to variations in the ionosphere. The accurate prediction of ionospheric critical frequency foF2 and other parameters in low latitudes is of great significance for understanding ionospheric changes in high-frequency communications. Currently, deep learning algorithms demonstrate significant advantages in capturing characteristics of the ionosphere. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM), which is capable of extracting spatiotemporal features of ionospheric variations, are incorporated into a hybrid neural network. The foF2 data used for training and testing come from three observatories in Brisbane (27°53′S, 152°92′E), Darwin (12°45′S, 130°95′E) and Townsville (19°63′S, 146°85′E) in 2000, 2008, 2009 and 2014 (the peak or trough years of solar activity in solar cycles 23 and 24), using the advanced Australian Digital Ionospheric Sounder. The results show that the proposed model accurately captures the changes in ionospheric foF2 characteristics and outperforms International Reference Ionosphere 2020 (IRI-2020) and BiLSTM ionospheric prediction models. In recent years, research on adversarial attack techniques for remote sensing object detection (RSOD) has made great progress. Still, most of the research nowadays is on end-to-end attacks, which mainly design adversarial perturbations based on the prediction information of the object detectors (ODs) to achieve the attack. These methods do not discover the common vulnerabilities of the ODs and, thus, the transferability is weak. Based on this, this paper proposes a foreground feature approximation (FFA) method to generate adversarial examples (AEs) that discover the common vulnerabilities of the ODs by changing the feature information carried by the image itself to implement the attack. Specifically, firstly, the high-quality predictions are filtered as attacked objects using the detector, after which a hybrid image without any target is made, and the hybrid foreground is created based on the attacked targets. The images' shallow features are extracted using the backbone network, and the features of the input foreground are approximated towards the hybrid foreground to implement the attack. In contrast, the model predictions are used to assist in realizing the attack. In addition, we have found the effectiveness of FFA for targeted attacks, and replacing the hybrid foreground with the targeted foreground can realize targeted attacks. Extensive experiments are conducted on the remote sensing target detection datasets DOTA and UCAS-AOD with seven rotating target detectors. The results show that the mAP of FFA under the IoU threshold of 0.5 untargeted attack is 3.4% lower than that of the advanced method, and the mAP of FFA under targeted attack is 1.9% lower than that of the advanced process. Background: Identifying the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) contributes to the ability to determine the efficacy of physiotherapy interventions and make good clinical decisions. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the MCID for 6-minute walking distance (6MWD) among inpatients with subacute cardiac disease using multiple anchor-based methods. Methods: This study was a secondary data analysis using only data from a multicenter longitudinal observational study in which 6MWD was measured at two time points. Based on the changes in 6MWD between baseline measurement and follow-up approximately 1 week after baseline measurement, the global rating of change scales (GRCs) of patients and physiotherapists, anchor method receiver operator operating characteristic curves, predictive models, and adjusted models were used to calculate the MCID. Results: Participants comprised 35 patients. Mean (standard deviation) 6MWD was 228.9 m (121.1 m) at baseline and 270.1 m (125.0 m) at follow-up. MCID for each GRC was 27.5–35.6 m for patients and 32.5–38.6 m for physiotherapists. Conclusion: The MCID in 6MWD in patients with subacute cardiovascular disease is 27.5–38.6 m. Simple Summary: This study introduces a deep learning model designed to predict the 5-year recurrence risk of lung adenocarcinoma based on histopathology images. While resection can be curative, there is a significant risk of recurrence, which necessitates close monitoring and additional treatment planning. Traditionally, microscopic evaluation of tumor grading in resected specimens is a standard pathologic practice that informs subsequent therapy and patient management. However, this approach is labor-intensive and subject to inter-observer variability. To address the challenge of accurately predicting recurrence, we propose a deep learning-based model to predict the 5-year recurrence of LUAD in patients following surgical resection. In our model, we introduce an innovative dual-attention architecture that significantly enhances computational efficiency. Our model demonstrates excellent performance in recurrent risk stratification, achieving a hazard ratio of 2.29 (95% CI: 1.69–3.09, p < 0.005), which outperforms several existing deep learning methods. However, in some instances, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was obliged to back some previously approved inaccurate models for AI-based prognostic models because they eventually produce inaccurate prognoses for specific patients who might be at risk of heart failure. In light of instances in which the medical research community has often evolved some unrealistic expectations regarding the advances in AI and its potential use for medical purposes, implementing standard procedures for AI-based cancer models is critical. Specifically, models would have to meet some general parameters for standardization, transparency of their logistic modules, and avoidance of algorithm biases. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge about AI-based prognostic methods and describe how they may be used in the future for predicting antibody-drug conjugate efficacy in cancer patients. This study addresses the pressing need for improved stock price prediction models in the financial markets, focusing on the Indonesian stock market. It introduces an innovative approach that utilizes the custom activation function RunReLU within a concave long short-term memory (LSTM) framework. The primary objective is to enhance prediction accuracy, ultimately assisting investors and market participants in making more informed decisions. The research methodology used historical stock price data from ten prominent companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, covering the period from July 6, 2015, to October 14, 2021. Evaluation metrics such as RMSE, MAE, MAPE, and R2 were employed to assess model performance. The results consistently favored the RunReLUbased model over the ReLU-based model, showcasing lower RMSE and MAE values, higher R2 values, and notably reduced MAPE values. This paper studies the implications of agents signaling their moral type in a lying game. In the theoretical analysis, a signaling motive emerges where agents dislike being suspected of lying and where some lies are more stigmatized than others. The equilibrium prediction of the model can explain experimental data from previous studies, particularly on partial lying, where individuals lie to gain a non-payoff maximizing amount. I discuss the relationship with theoretical models of lying that conceptualize the image concern as an aversion to being suspected of lying and provide applications to narratives, learning, the disclosure of lies, and the selection into lying opportunities. The use of machine learning techniques to identify problem gamblers has been widely established. However, existing methods often rely on self-reported labeling, such as temporary self-exclusion or account closure. In this study, we propose a novel approach that combines two documented methods. First we create labels for problem gamblers in an unsupervised manner. Subsequently, we develop prediction models to identify these users in real-time. The methods presented in this study offer useful insights that can be leveraged to implement interventions aimed at guiding or discouraging players from engaging in disordered gambling behaviors. Fetal cleft lip is a common congenital defect. Considering the delicacy and difficulty of observing fetal lips, we have utilized deep learning technology to develop a new model aimed at quickly and accurately assessing the development of fetal lips during prenatal examinations. This model can detect ultrasound images of the fetal lips and classify them, aiming to provide a more objective prediction for the development of fetal lips. This study included 632 pregnant women in their mid-pregnancy stage, who underwent ultrasound examinations of the fetal lips, collecting both normal and abnormal fetal lip ultrasound images. To improve the accuracy of the detection and classification of fetal lips, we proposed and validated the Yolov5-ECA model. The experimental results show that, compared with the currently popular 10 models, our model achieved the best results in the detection and classification of fetal lips. In terms of the detection of fetal lips, the mean average precision (mAP) at 0.5 and mAP at 0.5:0.95 were 0.920 and 0.630, respectively. In the classification of fetal lip ultrasound images, the accuracy reached 0.925. The deep learning algorithm has accuracy consistent with manual evaluation in the detection and classification process of fetal lips. To enhance the accuracy of hydrodynamic forces predictions for underwater vehicle within certain resource constraints, this study integrates high and low-fidelity samples using the Co-Kriging method, combined with an expected improvement (EI) sequential infill criterion to construct a hydrodynamic forces prediction model. Different grid densities of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations are used to distinguish high and low-fidelity samples. Taking the Joubert BB2 underwater vehicle as the research object, hydrodynamic forces predictions are conducted for various angles of attack and speeds. The effectiveness of the EI infill criterion in improving model prediction accuracy is validated. Furthermore, compared to the traditional Kriging model under the same computational resources, the Co-Kriging method, which integrates high and low-fidelity samples, significantly outperforms the Kriging model constructed solely from high or low-fidelity samples in overall prediction accuracy for underwater vehicle hydrodynamic forces. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) pavement preservation program consists of various pavement preservation treatments, including single, double, and triple chip seals. Such treatments are applied mainly to collectors and local roads. Louisiana DOTD has spent substantial financial resources on various rehabilitation and maintenance treatments to minimize the pavement distresses and improve the pavement life. However, the effectiveness of any treatment largely depends on the time of treatment and trigger governed by treatment performance models. This study focuses on the performance evaluation of chip seal treatment on flexible pavements using the before and after treatment performance data. The treatment benefits in terms of remaining service life, service life extension, and treatment life were evaluated using the treatment transition matrix. Such analysis yielded effective treatment trigger values for each distress type. INTRODUCTION: A prolonged operative time of lithotripsy with ureteroscopy for urolithiasis increases the risk of infectious complications; however, few reports have investigated the factors prolonging the operative time for ureteral stones. We investigated the factors associated with longer operative time in ureteroscopy for ureteral stones. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed patients who underwent retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy for ureteral stones and achieved an endoscopic stone-free status between April 2019 and July 2022. Patients were classified into two groups based on an operative time of ≥90 minutes or <90 minutes. We compared the patient and stone characteristics and surgical outcomes, and investigated the factors associated with a prolonged operative time. RESULTS: The cohort comprised 519 patients, with 58 patients in the group with an operative time of ≥90 minutes. Compared to the shorter operative time group, the longer operative time group had a significantly greater proportion of males, stone diameter, stone volume, and Hounsfield units of stone; additionally, the longer operative time group had higher prevalences of endoscopic findings of edema, polyps, and mucosa-stone adherence. Multivariable analysis showed that stone size >10 mm (odds ratio 4.05), polyps (odds ratio 2.40), and mucosal adherence (odds ratio 3.51) were significantly associated with an operative time exceeding 90 minutes. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the incidences of postoperative fever and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: Stone size, endoscopic findings of polyps, and mucosa-stone adherence were independent factors associated with a longer operative time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
