The article profiles still-life photographer Michael Geiger. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany and started taking pictures at age seven. The still-life quality of his food photography transforms the subject into an art object wherein he is known for. He designs his pictures with wonderful objects and textured backgrounds to give a sensuous feeling.

The article reports on the research conducted at the Institut für Technische Optik in Stuttgart, Germany which shows that tomographic imaging can reveal the refractive-index destribution of a photonic-crystal (PC) fiber. Researchers used a diffraction-tomography algorithm which is based on the Fourier-diffraction theorem where it allows refraction and small diffraction effects in reconstructing the profile for PC fibers. The details of the study are also presented.

The article offers information on Vision 2008, a trade fair for machine vision and identification technology, to be held from November 4-6, 2008 at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre in Stuttgart, Germany.
