The advent of autonomous vehicles has brought about significant advancements in transportation technology, promising safer and more efficient means of travel. However, their full integration into society depends on the accuracy of path-tracking realised by a lateral controller. Lateral control is achieved by regulating the steering angle to minimise the lateral error between the vehicle and a target point at a look-ahead distance on the reference path. This paper investigates the look-ahead distance as it is considered a key parameter that impacts vehicle performance, stability, and energy consumption. A qualitative analysis is performed to deduct a set of rules to adapt the look-ahead distance to three parameters: vehicle velocity, road curvature, and road adherence. Then, an original explicit mathematical formulation is developed for the look-ahead distance as a function of the considered parameters. A fuzzy logic decision for the look-ahead distance is further established and compared with the formulated one. Both approaches are implemented on a look-ahead distance-based lateral controller based on the super-twisting sliding mode control. Simulation results carried out in a joint simulation between Simulink/MatLab and SCANeR $ ^{{\rm TM}} $ TM Studio vehicle dynamics simulator demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed model on vehicle performance, stability, computational efficiency, and energy consumption. The electrification of commercial vehicles has led to new wheel torque allocation options for propulsion and braking of articulated heavy vehicles. Each unit or axle can be individually braked or propelled whilst the other units or axles are excluded from such action. This may achieve the best energy efficiency. However, this can also lead to potential yaw stability problems such as jackknifing and trailer swing, especially under bad loading and weather conditions. This paper describes the above instabilities and introduces a nonlinear single-track model to study the vehicle dynamics of the tractor-semitrailer combination. The effects of different vehicle and environment parameters are analysed with this vehicle model. A safe operating envelope for limiting the wheel forces is obtained using this vehicle model. Since the vehicle model introduced in this paper is computationally effective, it can be run online in real vehicles, with an instantaneous safe operating envelope obtained for the momentary conditions. Multi-intelligent vehicles forming and maintaining a specific formation during traveling can save energy consumption and road resources, and improve traffic efficiency and driving safety. Centered around the Cooperative Vehicle Infrastructure(CVI) framework of the Internet of Vehicles(IOV), this paper delves into the control objectives of forming multi-intelligent vehicle formation, explores the theory of formation shaping process, and investigates the optimization of energy consumption in the formation shaping process. First, the clustering design is used to take the kinematic process of vehicles as an optimization process from the bionics, taking the instantaneous consumption indexes as the optimization objectives. Then, optimize the acceleration inputs of the vehicle formation process using the improved Artificial Fish Swarm Algorithm(AFSA), and iterate with the clustering algorithm part, so as to realize the formation shaping process with energy consumption as the optimization objective. Finally, ajoint simulation platform built by Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) and Python is used for simulation verification, and the results show that the formation shaping process can be realized and achieve the optimal energy consumption under the scenarios proposed in this paper, thus verifying the validity of the clustering model of vehicle formation shaping and the energy consumption optimization algorithm designed in this paper. This paper presents a novel probabilistic data-driven approach to trip-level energy consumption estimation of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). As there are very few electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, EV trip energy consumption estimation can make EV routing and charging planning easier for drivers. In this research article, we propose a new driver behavior-centric EV energy consumption estimation model using probabilistic neural networks with model uncertainty. By incorporating model uncertainty into neural networks, we have created an ensemble of neural networks using Monte Carlo approximation. Our method comprehensively considers various vehicle dynamics, driver behavior, and environmental factors to estimate EV energy consumption for a given trip. We propose relative positive acceleration (RPA), average acceleration, and average deceleration as driver behavior factors in EV energy consumption estimation, and this paper shows that the use of these driver behavior features improves the accuracy of the EV energy consumption model significantly. Instead of predicting a single-point estimate for EV trip energy consumption, this proposed method predicts a probability distribution for the EV trip energy consumption. The experimental results of our approach show that our proposed probabilistic neural network with weight uncertainty achieves a mean absolute percentage error of 9.3% and outperforms other existing EV energy consumption models in terms of accuracy. In the field of intelligent transportation, the planning of traffic flows that meet energy-efficient driving requirements necessitates the acquisition of energy consumption data for each vehicle within the traffic flow. The current methods for calculating vehicle energy consumption generally rely on longitudinal dynamics models, which require comprehensive knowledge of all vehicle power system parameters. While this approach is feasible for individual vehicle models, it becomes impractical for a large number of vehicle types. This paper proposes a digital model for vehicle driving energy consumption using vehicle speed, acceleration, and battery state of charge (SOC) as inputs and energy consumption as output. The model is trained using an optimized CNN-BiLSTM-Attention (OCBA) network architecture. In comparison to other methods, the OCBA-trained model for predicting PHEV driving energy consumption is more accurate in simulating the time-dependency between SOC and instantaneous fuel and power consumption, as well as the power distribution relationship within PHEVs. This provides an excellent framework for the digital modeling of complex power systems with multiple power sources. The model requires only 54 vehicle tests for training, which is significantly fewer than over 2000 tests typically needed to obtain parameters for power system components. The model's prediction error for fuel consumption under unknown conditions is reduced to 5%, outperforming the standard error benchmark of 10%. The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has emerged as a solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector, which has motivated the implementation of public policies to promote their use in several countries. However, the high adoption of EVs poses challenges for the electricity sector, as it would imply an increase in energy demand and possible impacts on the power quality (PQ) of the power grid. Therefore, it is important to conduct EV integration studies in the power grid to determine the amount that can be incorporated without causing problems and identify the areas of the power sector that will require reinforcements. Accurate EV load patterns are required for this type of study that, through mathematical modeling, reflect both the dynamic behavior and the factors that influence the decision to recharge EVs. This article aims to present an overview of EVs, examine the different factors considered in the literature for modeling EV load patterns, and review modeling methods. EV load modeling methods are classified into deterministic, statistical, and machine learning. The article shows that each modeling method has its advantages, disadvantages, and data requirements, ranging from simple load modeling to more accurate models requiring large datasets. This paper presents the process of creating a model for electric vehicle (EV) energy consumption, enabling the rapid generation of results and the creation of energy maps. The most robust validation indicators were exhibited by an artificial intelligence method, specifically neural networks. Within this framework, two predictive models for EV energy consumption were developed for winter and summer conditions, based on actual driving cycles. These models hold particular significance for microscale road analyses. The resultant model, for test data in summer conditions, demonstrates validation indicators of an R2 of 86% and an MSE of 1.4, while, for winter conditions, its values are 89% and 2.8, respectively, confirming its high precision. The paper also presents exemplary applications of the developed models, utilizing both real and simulated microscale data. The results obtained and the presented methodology can be especially advantageous for decision makers in the management of city roads and infrastructure planners, aiding both cognitive understanding and the better planning of charging infrastructure networks. The trend in the global automotive industry is moving towards electric vehicles that do not emit exhaust gases and use eco-friendly fuel. Electric vehicles are more eco-friendly compared to internal combustion engine vehicles, as they emit less carbon dioxide and pollutants. Research and development are actively underway to produce new electric vehicle models in the rapidly growing electric car market. In this study, a 2-speed transmission for electric vehicles, applicable to 300 Nm-class electric cars, has been developed. The 2-speed transmission structure enables efficient energy use and utilizes a planetary gear set and wet multi-plate clutch, which are effective in the power transmission process. The 2-speed transmission developed through the research results of this paper has a compact structure optimized for electric vehicles. Hybrid electric vehicles are certainly one of the key solutions for improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions, especially in terms of special vehicles and with the use of CO2-neutral fuels. Determining the energy management strategy and finding the optimal solution with regard to the aforementioned goals remains one of the main challenges in the design of HEVs. This paper presents a new vehicle modeling method, with an emphasis on HEVs, which is based on the frequency analysis of emissions and consumption according to the current specific traction power of the vehicle. An evaluation of the newly introduced model in the RDE, NEDC and WLTP cycle was performed, and the results were compared with the standard verified vehicle model that was created in AVL's CruiseM R2021.2 software package. Positive traction energies have positive deviations of between 0.35% and 2.85%. The largest deviation in CO2 emissions was recorded for the HEV model in the RDE cycle and in the non-hybrid model in the WLTP cycle and were 3.79% and 4.4%, respectively. All other combinations of cycle and vehicles had deviations of up to about 1%. We study the problem of optimal choice of model parameters with respect to any functional. Locally controllable affine systems and integral functionals depending on the program control are considered. Local controllability of affine systems with nonnegative inputs is proved in the case where the columns multiplying the controls form a positive basis. For such systems, we introduce the local controllability coefficient and pose the problem of its maximization depending on the choice of model parameters. As an example, we consider a very simplified model of an underwater vehicle and study the problem of finding an arrangement of its control propellers in which the energy consumption of the vehicle is minimal. In order to simultaneously improve the fuel economy and overall performance of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), this study selected the P1 + P3 configuration as its research object. Through a configuration analysis of hybrid vehicles, it confirmed the feasibility of P1 + P3 configuration-PHEV operating modes. Based on this, a rule-based control strategy was developed, and simulation models for the entire vehicle and control strategy were constructed in both Cruise and MATLAB/Simulink software. The study conducted simulation analysis by combining three sets of Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) driving cycles to assess the fuel-saving potential of the dual-motor P1 + P3 configuration. The simulation results showed that the vehicle model was reasonably constructed and the proposed control strategy had good control effects on the entire vehicle. Compared to conventional gasoline vehicles, the P1 + P3 configuration PHEV achieved a 67.4% fuel economy improvement, demonstrating a significant enhancement in fuel efficiency with the introduction of electric motors. As a result of ever-growing energy demands, motor vehicles are among the largest contributors to overall energy consumption. This has led researchers to focus on fuel consumption, which has important implications for the environment, the economy, and geopolitical stability. This article presents a comprehensive analysis of various fuel consumption modeling methods, with the aim of identifying parameters that significantly influence fuel consumption. The scientific novelty of this article lies in its use of low-cost technology, i.e., an OBD-II interface paired with a mobile phone, combined with modern mathematical modeling methods to create an accurate model of the fuel consumption of a vehicle. A vehicle test drive was performed, during which variations in selected parameters were recorded. Based on the obtained data, a model of the vehicle's fuel consumption was built using three forecasting methods: a multivariate regression model, decision trees, and neural networks. The results show that the multivariate regression model obtained the lowest MSE, MAR, and MRSE coefficients, indicating that this was the best forecasting method among those tested. Sufficient forecast error results were obtained using neural networks, with increases of approximately 73%, 10%, and 131% in MSE, MAE, and MRAE, respectively, compared to regression results. This paper presents a novel differential with lateral torque vectoring activated by an auxiliary motor, called motor-modulated lateral torque vectoring differential, or briefly, MLTD. Its architecture and kinematic characteristics are described, and the optimal cornering performance due to torque vectoring is evaluated using a steady-state vehicle dynamic model. Then, a conceptual design case of MLTD installed in a front-wheel-drive electric vehicle is conducted to assess its feasibility in terms of cornering, driving performances, and energy efficiency performance. The calculations show that an optimal distribution ratio between left and right torques for maximum lateral acceleration can be obtained for a specific cornering condition, further used for DM sizing in the preliminary stage. The simulations for energy consumption at constant-speed turning reveal that energy efficiencies of MLTD are lower than those of conventional differentials with evenly distributed torques. However, this deficiency may be paid off by moderately cutting down the rolling resistance of tire while the superior cornering performances brought by torque vectoring is still preserved. Accordingly, the newly proposed MLTD possesses greater flexibility to improve energy efficiency and driving range of electric vehicles without trading off against its desirable cornering performance and safe handling, and is thus worthy of further development. Fuel-saving-oriented collaborative driving is a highly promising yet challenging endeavor that requires satisfying the driver's operational intentions while surpassing the driver's fuel-saving performance. In light of this challenge, the paper introduces an innovative collaborative driving strategy tailored to the objective of fuel conservation in the context of commercial vehicles. An enhancement to this strategy involves the development of a network prediction model for vehicle speed, leveraging insights from driver style recognition. Employing the predicted speed as a reference, a model-predictive-control-based optimal controller is designed to track the reference while optimizing fuel consumption. Furthermore, a straightforward yet effective collaborative rule is proposed to ensure alignment with the driver's intention. Subsequently, the proposed control scheme is validated through simulation and real-world driving data, revealing that the human–machine cooperative driving controller saves 4% more fuel than human drivers. This article deals with the development of a simulation tool for evaluating the energy consumption of an electric racing vehicle. The tool was carried out in the Matlab/Simulink environment and is based on the equations that govern the dynamics of the vehicle. All the systems of an electric vehicle were modelled: motor, battery, controller, bodywork, etc., as well as the characteristics of the competition circuit. The tool allows us to choose the input variable of the simulation between motor torque, motor voltage, battery power or vehicle speed and provides the values of all relevant physical variables to evaluate the performance of the vehicle. To evaluate the tool, a test was carried out with a real vehicle on a test circuit and both were modelled. The simulation results were compared with the experimental data obtained in the real test and it was verified that the simulation tool provides results that are very close to the real ones. In order to show the performance of the tool, simulations of different driving strategies were carried out and the results of energy consumption in each of them were obtained, allowing us to choose which of them is the most efficient. Nowadays, the topic of reducing vehicles' energy consumption is very important. In particular, for electric vehicles, the reduction of energy consumption is necessary to remedy the most critical problems associated with this type of vehicle: the problem of the limited range of the electric traction, also associated with the long recharging times of the battery packs. To reduce use-phase impacts and energy consumptions of vehicles, it is useful to reduce the vehicle mass (lightweighting). The aim of this work is to analyze the parameters of a vehicle which influence the results of lightweighting, in order to provide guidelines for the creation of a vehicle model suitable for studying the effects of lightweighting. This study was carried out through two borderline case models, a compact car and an N1 vehicle, and simulating these through a consolidated vehicle simulation tool useful for consumption estimations. This study shows that the parameters that most influence the outcome of lightweighting are the rolling resistance, the battery pack characteristics, the aerodynamic coefficients, and the transmission efficiency, while the inertia contributions can be considered negligible. This paper studies how autonomous vehicles (AVs) influence future traffic and energy consumption when adopting various route guidance strategies, which can be divided into global information strategies and local information strategies according to the scope of information collection. A mixed traffic flow model is established. Then, an autonomous vehicle model is improved to investigate the impact of six route guidance strategies. The selected strategies are specifically evaluated in a double-route scenario, considering both single-exit and dual-exit configurations. Three indicators are chosen to evaluate traffic efficiency, including traffic flow, average speed and quantity of vehicles. Consumption per unit flux is the indicator of energy consumption level. This study proposes a two-level optimization model system for vehicle control and signal timing at isolated signal intersections under the mixed traffic flow environment composed of intelligent connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and connected human-driven vehicles (CHVs), to minimize the energy consumption and vehicle delay at intersections. The proposed two-layer optimization model is composed of a two-layer vehicle trajectory control model and a fuzzy control signal timing optimization model. The two-layer vehicle trajectory control model includes a signal-oriented vehicle trajectory control model and a car-following oriented vehicle trajectory control model. The former calculates expected acceleration and speed commands at each time step according to the coming signal information, to help vehicle pass the closest signal intersection without stopping during the green light interval; the latter uses the variable headway (VTH) strategy to follow the preceding vehicle by maintaining a safe distance. A microscopic simulator based on SUMO is developed to test the performance of the proposed optimization algorithm. In the simulation experiment, with the driving characteristics of CHV drivers considered, the results show that our model performs well under a CAV penetration rate of 30%–60% and under small or moderate levels of traffic flow. The average waiting time of vehicles is reduced by about 25% compared with the uncontrolled scheme. Under the condition of penetration rate of 60%, the average energy consumption of vehicles in the proposed model is 17.56% lower than that of the uncontrolled scheme. In addition, the proposed model reduces by 21.94% compared with the scheme of only controlling vehicles. In order to explore the influence of the thermal management system (TMS) on vehicle energy management and tap the energy saving potential of TMS, this study establishes a vehicle energy management strategy control model oriented to reduce energy consumption of the TMS based on MATLAB/Simulink for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with planetary hybrid configuration. Firstly, a simulation model of vehicle dynamic machine - electric - thermal coupling working process is introduced, to evaluate the impact of TMS in the high and low temperature environment on energy consumption of the vehicle running. Then, based on the equivalent fuel consumption minimum strategy (ECMS) and considering the influence of TMS on energy consumption, an adaptive equivalent consumption minimum strategy model considering thermal characteristics (TAECMS) is established, which propose an improved adaptive equivalent factor adjustment method considering the thermal characteristics of the system is proposed. By establishing the Hamiltonian function to achieve the goal of minimum equivalent fuel consumption, considering the temperature penalty, the power of the engine and the power of the battery is reasonably allocated. Finally, the TAECMS control strategy achieves fuel saving of 6.2 % and 8.4 % respectively in high and low temperature environments through simulation verification and comparison. As the greenhouse gas emission regulations have strengthened, establishing a sustainable transportation system has become more essential. Thus, studies on the transportation system using electric vehicles have received more research attention. However, operation using electric vehicles has obstacles such as technical limitations of vehicle batteries and insufficient number of charging stations, which can be much affected by the traffic flow changes. Therefore, we propose a robust electric vehicle routing model under road traffic flow uncertainty. An arc segmentation method is used to apply the road traffic flow uncertainty more realistically and mitigate the conservativeness of the solutions. We also use the genetic algorithm with three-layer chromosome encoding schemes. Three-layer chromosome encoding schemes guarantee the feasibility of the solutions by checking the product and battery capacity of electric vehicles. The experiments show that the solutions of the robust electric vehicle routing model tend to visit charging stations more often due to the uncertain road traffic flow. Because the traditional computing model can no longer meet the particularity of Internet of Vehicles tasks, aiming at its characteristics of high bandwidth, low latency and high reliability, this paper proposes a resource allocation strategy for Internet of Vehicles using reinforcement learning in edge cloud computing environment. First, a multi-layer resource allocation model for Internet of Vehicles is proposed, which uses the cooperation mode of edge cloud computing servers and roadside units to dynamically coordinate edge computing and content caching. Then, based on the construction of communication model, calculation model and cache model, make full use of idle resources in Internet of Vehicles to minimize network delay under the condition of limited energy consumption. Finally, the optimization goal is solved by two-layer deep Q network model, and the best resource allocation plan is obtained. The simulation results based on the Internet of Vehicles model show that the computational energy consumption and system delay of proposed strategy do not exceed 400 J and 600 ms, respectively. As one of the effective and crucial ways to achieve the energy saving and emission reduction of loaders, hybrid technology has attracted the attention of many scholars and manufacturers. Selecting an appropriate energy management strategy (EMS) is essential to reduce fuel consumption and emissions for hybrid loaders (HLs). In this paper, firstly, the application status of drivetrain configuration of HLs is presented. Then, the working condition characteristics of loaders are analyzed. On the basis of this, the configurations of HLs are classified, and the features and research status of each configuration are described. Next, taking the energy consumption optimization of HLs as the object, the implementation principle and research progress of the proposed rule strategy and optimization strategy are compared and analyzed, and the differences of existing EMSs and future development challenges are summarized. Finally, combining the advantages of intelligent control and optimal control, the future prospective development direction of EMSs for HLs is considered. The conclusions of the paper can be identified in two points: firstly, although the existing EMSs can effectively optimize the energy consumption of HLs, the dependence of the strategy on the mechanism model and the vehicle parameters can reduce the applicability of the strategy to heterogeneous HLs and the robustness to a complex working condition. Secondly, combining the advantages of intelligent control and optimal control, designing an intelligent EMS not depending on the vehicle analytical model will provide a new method for solving the energy consumption optimization problem of HL. Based on a conserved higher-order traffic flow model (CHO model), we propose a new viscous macroscopic traffic flow model taking into account the diffusion effect in traffic. The model can reasonably smooth the shock wave so that the acceleration is maintained in a reasonable range. To balance the computational efficiency and accuracy, this viscous macroscopic traffic flow model is integrated with the microscopic vehicle fuel consumption and emission models to estimate vehicle fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method is used to solve the viscous model, and the simulation results are inputted into the microscopic models to calculate vehicle fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Numerical results illustrate that the proposed viscous model is reasonable and that the designed scheme is feasible and effective. In the development of a range-extended electric vehicle, it is necessary to determine the control strategy of the range extender (REX) and evaluate the influence of its performance and operating conditions. In this paper, we propose a range-extender in-the-loop (REIL) method that is used to predict the vehicle fuel consumption more accurately. To develop the REIL method and perform experimental verification, the vehicle plant model, electric-drive control strategy, and REX control strategy are integrated into a vehicle control unit (VCU) for REX control, bench data acquisition, and bench monitoring. The VCU controls the REX to meet the power requirements of the simulated vehicle operations under a given driving cycle. The fuel consumed by the engine and power generated by the integrated starter-and-generator are measured during the tests, which are used in the vehicle fuel consumption calculation. We first describe the methodology and implementation of the REIL, and subsequently discuss the predicted results of a range-extended electric vehicle equipped with a 30 kW REX under the WLTC driving cycle. Comparing the predicted results of the REIL and software simulation methods, it is demonstrated that the REIL method improves the prediction accuracy of vehicle fuel consumption. The dual-motor EV (Electric Vehicle) is increasingly favored by manufacturers for its excellent performance in terms of power and economy. How to further reduce its energy consumption and make full use of the dual-motor energy recovery is an important support to improve the overall vehicle economy and realize the "dual carbon" strategy. For the dual-motor EV architecture, the motor model, power battery loss model and vehicle longitudinal braking force model are established and the energy recovery-dominated regenerative braking torque distribution (RBD) rule of the dual motors is designed. Based on genetic algorithm (GA) theory and taking into account SOC, vehicle speed and braking intensity, a regenerative-braking torque optimization method is proposed that integrates energy recovery and braking stability. The braking intensity of 0.3 and the initial vehicle speed of 90 km/h are selected for verification. Compared with the rule method, the energy recovery and stability are improved by 22.8% and 4.8%, respectively, under the genetic algorithm-based and energy recovery-dominated regenerative-braking torque distribution (GA-RBD) strategy. A variety of conditions are selected for further strategy validation and the result shows that compared with the rule-based method, both energy recovery and braking stability are improved as braking speed and braking intensity increase under the GA-RBD strategy. In this study, a hierarchical chassis control strategy is designed to enhance vehicle economy and safety for four-wheel independent-drive electric vehicles (FWID-EVs). In the upper-level, a vehicle dynamics model based on multiple agents is proposed, and a distributed model predictive control (DMPC) method is designed to dimensionally solve the problem of tracking the center-of-mass torque of the demanded velocity trajectory and stability parameters. In the bottom-level, a multi-objective torque distribution strategy that weighs safety, dynamics and economy based on multi-agent theory is designed by comprehensively considering the motor efficiency and tire energy loss. Finally, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation platform is built to verify the method formulated in this paper. The results show that the method in this paper is effective in tracking the desired trajectory and further enhancing the stability of the vehicle under various conditions. The optimization of operations of subway systems has critical importance in terms of energy efficiency and costs. Therefore, driving management of subway vehicles has been gaining more importance day by day. Optimal Driving Management (ODM) is the optimization of the velocity trajectory of a subway vehicle by considering operating conditions and travel time. In this study, the driving of a subway vehicle has been modeled dynamically with all parameters that affect driving. So, a realistic model has been prepared. Then, a new objective function has been proposed to reduce energy consumption by using the subway vehicle’s acceleration and braking forces parameters for ODM. The Artificial Bee Colony algorithm (ABC) and Genetic algorithm (GA) have been used on the prepared model to determine the driving dynamics of the subway vehicle. The performance of the algorithms has been evaluated in the real line network, which has multiple stations with different characteristics. The energy consumption has been reduced by 10.47% in GA and 8.92% in ABC compared to the actual driving values. The continuous technical improvements involving electric motors, battery packs, and general powertrain equipment make it strictly necessary to predict or evaluate the energy consumption of electric vehicles (EVs) with reasonable accuracy. The significant improvements in computing power in the last decades have allowed the implementation of various simulation scenarios and the development of strategies for vehicle modelling, thus estimating energy consumption with higher accuracy. This paper gives a general overview of the strategies adopted to model EVs for evaluating or predicting energy consumption. The need to develop such solutions is due to the basis of each analysis, as well as the type of results that must be produced and delivered. The superconducting electrodynamic suspension (EDS) train, which has reached a manned speed of 603 km/h in 2015, and is therefore regarded as one of the most attractive technologies for the higher speed train. In the superconducting EDS train, the discrete layout of ground null-flux coils causes the additional electromagnetic ripples towards the bogies, making the vibration control more essential to ensure the running performance. In this work, a fourteen-degree-of-freedom dynamics model of superconducting EDS train, was established to explore the effective strategy for vibration reduction. This model uses the time domain wave of track irregularity spectrum as the input of vehicle system. MATLAB/Simulink and "Zhai's method" are both adopted to solve the vehicle dynamic model and validate the model. Using these models, the effectiveness of the proportional force and maximum force for the primary suspension was examined. The results show that the maximum force strategy has advantage over the proportional force strategy in terms of energy consumption and vibration sensitiveness. However, the electromagnetic damping control can only suppress the vibration of bogie. To achieve an overall vibration control, the "ON-OFF" sky-hook damping was further introduced to the secondary suspension to suppress the vibration of car body. We find that, the control effect is preferable with the damping value being between 5 kN·s/m and 10 kN·s/m. Therefore, the cooperative control, considering both the primary and secondary suspensions, is necessary to meet the Urban Tracked Aircushion Vehicle Standard and provide theoretical supports for the suspension design of superconducting EDS train. Automotive biofuels offer a promising alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Accurate evaluation of combustion and emissions in IC engines and vehicles is crucial. This research aimed at developing and validating an engine and vehicle simulation methodology to assess the fuel effect on vehicle consumption and emissions considering different driving cycles and the road slope (barely evaluated for fuels widely used in emerging markets). Two blends were tested: 20 % biodiesel (B20) and 20 % hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO20) with Ultra-Low-Sulfur Diesel (ULSD). A light-duty diesel vehicle model was developed in GTSuite®, using emission maps from a calibrated steady-state engine model. Good agreement with experiments was found. Road slope in local DC significantly increased fuel consumption and CO, CO 2 , NOx, and PN emissions, reducing HC. Compared to ULSD, B20 reduced PN and HC by 27–35 % and 12–22.5 %, respectively. HVO20 had a smaller effect on PN but reduced HC emissions by up to 19.5 %. Neither blend significantly affected CO and CO 2. B20 slightly increased NOx and fuel consumption, while HVO20 had no significant impact on these. The ongoing spread of electric sustainable mobility is transforming the local ways of transport in metropolitan areas. This is meant to be extended outside of big cities in the near future thanks to new technological developments. Little towns should adapt to these changes, as they are located geographically far from the big cities and are generally characterized by low economic and demographic indicators. Hence, little towns must keep pace with these changes in mobility to avoid being isolated from the main cities in a country. People living in the countryside usually move toward big cities for various reasons, either related to work or living necessities. Therefore, it must be possible to conduct usual displacements through the use of electric vehicles (EVs), i.e., reaching the destinations and supplying the batteries through charging infrastructures. This paper studies the full implementation of electric mobility applied in the case of Cuenca, a city located in middle Spain. A brief geographical context is provided, together with the routes and destinations of interest considered. Then, different EVs are considered and an analytical vehicle model is provided. The model was exploited to simulate the electrical energy demand to reach the destinations chosen; the results allow comparing the performances offered by different types of EVs. Analyzing of the energy consumption (EC) in bus operation is important for reducing operating costs, improving sustainable solutions and creating environmentally friendly cities. The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors, such as passenger load, speed and acceleration, that affect significantly EC in bus operation. This paper builds a simulation framework for describing the level of energy based on the vehicle-engine combined (VEC) EC model. On the basis of the relationship between engine torque, power, traction and EC, the simulation framework mainly includes the road model, vehicle model, engine model and driver strategy. Furthermore, the correlations between energy consumption, passenger load, vehicle speed and acceleration are analyzed in different station spacing. The results show that the passenger load has a significant impact on EC of buses, and is related to the vehicle's speed and acceleration. Generally, the higher the maximum driving speed, the higher the EC of the bus. Acceleration strategies and maximum speed limits are critical factors determining the EC of bus for a certain passenger load and station spacing. For the same station spacing and maximum driving speed, the acceleration phase is under a greater contribution to the increase of EC. In addition, the greater the maximum speed limit or the acceleration, the greater the contribution percentage of EC increase in the acceleration phase. The simulation framework based on vehicle-engine combined EC model and specific fuel consumption maps can obtain the operating EC of buses for situations with different station spacing and maximum speed, which is conducive to vehicle operation EC analysis. Acceleration strategies and maximum speed limits are critical factors determining the EC of bus for a certain passenger load and station spacing. The aim of the paper is to define a limit performance of highly efficient battery electric quadricycles for urban mobility. The vehicle is employed for an energy efficiency competition in which urban concepts compete. A multi-physics (thermo-electro-mechanical) Tank To Wheels (TTW) model has been developed and validated. Given the information on the track route (track map and elevation) and on the throttle input command, the model computes the vehicle power demand and cruising speed. The model is validated by means of both indoor and outdoor experimental tests. The validated model is employed for the optimization of the transmission gear ratio and of the driving strategy to minimize the overall energy consumption on a given track. Design variables are related to the transmission gear ratio and to the throttle command profile. The algorithm aims to minimize the energy consumption, including constraints on the maximum current provided by the battery and on the maximum time available to complete the lap. Comparison with some common driving strategies confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed solution, with a foreseen 9% reduction of the vehicle overall energy demand. This paper presents a novel strategy for giving priority to automated guideway transit vehicles (AGTVs) in mixed traffic flow. From the perspective of road segments, a moving-block operation mode (MBOM) was proposed to help AGTVs eliminate the dependence on dedicated lanes. The car-following and lane-changing behaviors of both AGTVs and general vehicles were modeled using the theory of cellular automata. From the perspective of intersections, an MBOM-based dynamic multirequest signal priority (DMSP) model was developed to support the decision of multiple priority requests at the intersection. Notably, the DMSP model can synchronously deal with early green and green extension requests from the same or different phases. Extensive microsimulation experiments were conducted to examine the proposed strategy at various levels of traffic volume and AGTV headway. The results indicated that the MBOM outperforms the traditional strategy of setting up full-time or intermittent dedicated lanes, particularly in traffic conditions where the headway of AGTVs is longer than 300 s and the traffic volume is lower than 9.0 kpcu=h. Furthermore, the MBOM-based DMSP strategy was evaluated in terms of the performance of both traffic and energy efficiency. The per person travel time and coal consumption decreased by 6.93% and 1.61%, respectively, demonstrating the effectiveness of improving operational efficiency and sustainability of public transit. Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) are emerging technology that attracts the interests of many transportation professionals and computational scientists. Several recent studies have investigated different model frameworks of CAVs in different transportation environments, such as on freeways and at conventional intersections. Nevertheless, few efforts have been made to investigate the performances of CAVs at innovative intersections, and the lack of knowledge can result in an inaccurate prediction of CAVs performances in the existing transportation network. This research intends to mitigate this research gap by studying the traffic delay and fuel consumption of CAVs in the environment of the superstreet and its equivalent conventional intersection through simulation-based experiments. A real-world superstreet in Leeland, NC, is selected and used. A conventional intersection with equivalent road designs is established in the simulation platform to make a comparison with the selected superstreet. This research develops both platooning and trajectory planning modeling frameworks to examine the implications of CAVs with different capabilities. The Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) is selected and applied to model the CAV behaviors, while Wiedemann 99 (W99) is used to model Human-Driven Vehicles (HDVs). The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of both platooning and trajectory planning, respectively. Different effects of CAVs in the superstreet and its equivalent conventional intersection are observed. The findings from this research can provide an important reference for transportation planners and policymakers in predicting the influence of CAVs on the existing transportation infrastructure. The Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (ECMS) is a well-known control strategy for the definition of optimal power-split in hybrid-electric vehicles, because of its effectiveness and reduced calibration effort. In this kind of Energy Management Systems (EMS), the correct identification of an equivalence factor (K), which translates electric power in equivalent fuel consumption, is of paramount importance. To guarantee charge sustaining operation, the K factor must be adjusted to different mission profiles. Adaptive ECMS (A-ECMS) techniques have thus been introduced, which automatically determine the optimal equivalence factor based on the vehicle mission. The aim of this research activity is to assess the potential in terms of fuel consumption and charge sustainability of different A-ECMS techniques on a gasoline hybrid-electric passenger car. First, the 0D vehicle and powertrain model was developed in the commercial CAE software GT-SUITE. An ECMS-based EMS was used to control the baseline powertrain and three alternative versions of an auto-adaptive algorithm were implemented on top of that. The first A-ECMS under study was based on feedback from the battery State of Charge, while the second and third on a Driving Pattern Recognition/Prediction algorithm. Fuel consumption was assessed using the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) and Real Driving Emissions (RDE) driving cycles by means of numerical simulation. In this paper, driving strategy optimization for a track is proposed for an energy efficient battery electric vehicle dedicated to the Shell Eco-marathon. A measurement-based mathematical vehicle model was developed to simulate the behavior of the vehicle. The model contains complicated elements such as the vehicle's cornering resistance and the efficiency field of the entire powertrain. The validation of the model was presented by using the collected telemetry data from the 2019 Shell Eco-marathon competition in London (UK). The evaluation of applicable powertrains was carried out before the driving strategy optimization. The optimal acceleration curve for each investigated powertrain was defined. Using the proper powertrain is a crucial part of energy efficiency, as the drive has the most significant energy demand among all components. Two tracks with different characteristics were analyzed to show the efficiency of the proposed optimization method. The optimization results are compared to the reference method from the literature. The results of this study provide an applicable vehicle modelling methodology with efficient optimization framework, which demonstrates 5.5% improvement in energy consumption compared to the reference optimization theory. Hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) for electric vehicles, which consist of lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors, have become an increasing focus of research and development in recent years. The combination of the two combines the advantages of each storage technology (high energy density in batteries and high power density in supercapacitors) in one system. To effectively manage the energy flow between these two different storage technologies, an intelligent energy management system (EMS) is required. In the development of the EMS, it is usual to run preliminary checks in a simulation environment that is as close to reality as feasible already during the development process. For this purpose, this paper presents a concept for the creation of a simulation environment consisting of realistic routes and a holistic vehicle model. The realistic route data are generated by a route-generating algorithm, which accesses different map services via application programming interfaces (API) and retrieves real route data to generate a simulated route. By integrating further online services (e.g., OpenWeather API), the routes are further specified with, for example, real weather data, traffic data, speed limits and altitude data. For the complete vehicle model, components including the suspension, chassis and auxiliary consumers are simulated as blackbox models. The components that can be accessed during the simulation are simulated as white box models. These are the battery, the supercapacitor, the DC/DC converter and the electric motor. This allows the EMS to control and regulate the HESS in real time during the simulation. To validate the simulation environment presented here, a real BMW i3 was driven on a real route, and its energy demand was measured. The same route was simulated in the simulation environment with environmental conditions that were as realistic as feasible (traffic volume, traffic facilities, weather) and the vehicle model of the BMW i3. The resulting energy demand from the simulation was recorded. The results show that the simulated energy consumption value differs by only 1.92% from the real measured value. This paper aims to study the torque optimization control of distributed drive electric vehicles in the cornering process and reduce the cornering energy consumption. The main energy consumption of the vehicle in the cornering process is analyzed clearly based on the 7-DOF vehicle dynamics model. The torque vectoring distribution (TVD) of a distributed drive electric vehicle in the process of turning was studied on the basis of the Pontryagin Minimum Principle (PMP). The Beetle Antenna Search–Particle Swarm Optimization (BAS-PSO) algorithm was used to optimize the torque distribution coefficient offline, and the algorithm was improved to improve the operation speed. Based on the vehicle dynamics characteristics, the table of torque distribution coefficient of minimum turning energy consumption and the optimal energy-saving degree of TVD control in different bending conditions were worked out. Inference of detailed vehicle trajectories is crucial for applications such as traffic flow modeling, energy consumption estimation, and traffic flow optimization. Static sensors can provide only aggregated information, posing challenges in reconstructing individual vehicle trajectories. Shockwave theory is used to reproduce oscillations that occur between sensors. However, as the emerging of connected vehicles grows, probe data offers significant opportunities for more precise trajectory reconstruction. Existing methods rely on Eulerian observations (e.g., data from static sensors) and Lagrangian observations (e.g., data from connected vehicles) incorporating shockwave theory and car-following modeling. Despite these advancements, a prevalent issue lies in the static assignment of shockwave speed, which may not be able to reflect the traffic oscillations in a short time period caused by varying response times and vehicle dynamics. Moreover, driver dynamics while reconstructing the trajectories are ignored. In response, this paper proposes a novel framework that integrates Eulerian and Lagrangian observations for trajectory reconstruction on freeways. The approach introduces a calibration algorithm for time-varying shockwave speed. The shockwave speed calibrated by the CV is then utilized for trajectory reconstruction of other non-connected vehicles based on shockwave theory. Additionally, vehicle and driver dynamics are introduced to optimize the trajectory and estimate energy consumption by applying a vehicle movement model. In driving situations, if drivers have advanced access to downstream traffic conditions ahead of time, they may modify their driving behavior accordingly. This proactive approach can help reduce frequent acceleration and deceleration of vehicles and minimize traffic congestion. This paper considers the average headway of downstream vehicles to predict the traffic conditions of downstream roads. Based on the full velocity difference (FVD) model, we propose a car-following model that incorporates spatial expectation effect (SEFVD). Firstly, a linear stability analysis is performed on the SEFVD model, and the results indicate that the critical value of the SEFVD model is relatively small, and the stabilization region increases gradually with the number of vehicles downstream. Secondly, employing perturbation amplitudes on a virtual circular road, a numerical simulation of the SEFVD model is carried out and compared with the FVD model. The results demonstrate that the SEFVD model has the ability to suppress the formation of traffic oscillations and stabilize vehicle formation more quickly. Simulation results for the 11 cars starting from a traffic signal indicate that the delay time and kinematic wave speed of the SEFVD model are within reasonable limits. To evaluate the changes in energy use, we also carried out energy consumption experiments. The experimental findings show that the SEFVD model uses less energy compared to the FVD model. Finally, the parameters of the models are calibrated and verified by using NGSIM data. The total calibration error of the SEFVD model (m = 2) decreases by 42.97% compared to the FVD model, and the total validation error decreases by 29.3%. The importance of a flexible and comprehensive vehicle fuel consumption model cannot be understated for understanding the implications of the modal changes currently occurring in the transportation sector. In this study, a model is developed to determine the tank-to-wheel energy demand for passenger and freight transportation within Germany for different modes of transport. These modes include light-duty vehicles (LDVs), heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), airplanes, trains, ships, and unmanned aviation. The model further estimates future development through 2050. Utilizing standard driving cycles, backward-looking longitudinal vehicle models are employed to determine the energy demand for all on-road vehicle modes. For non-road vehicle modes, energy demand from the literature is drawn upon to develop the model. It is found that various vehicle parameters exert different effects on vehicle energy demand, depending on the driving scenario. Public transportation offers the most energy-efficient means of travel in the forms of battery electric buses (33.9 MJ/100 pkm), battery electric coaches (21.3 MJ/100 pkm), fuel cell electric coaches (32.9 MJ/100 pkm), trams (43.3 MJ/100 pkm), and long-distance electric trains (31.8 MJ/100 pkm). International shipping (9.9 MJ/100 tkm) is the most energy-efficient means of freight transport. The electrification of drivetrains and the implementation of regenerative braking show large potential for fuel consumption reduction, especially in urban areas. Occupancy and loading rates for vehicles play a critical role in determining the energy demand per passenger-kilometer for passenger modes, and tonne-kilometer for freight modes. Models based on steady-state maps estimate fuel consumption to be 2–8% lower than real experimental measured values. This is due to the fact that during transient phases, the engine consumes more fuel than in steady phases. Some literature has addressed the conventional vehicle engine model that improves fuel consumption estimation's accuracy during the transient state. However, the characteristics of the engine in the scope of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) with an integrated control strategy is yet to be covered. The controller is designed to minimize engine operation in the transient phase to enhance energy savings. In this paper, the correlation between fuel enrichment in transient and steady-state fuel estimation is established as transient correction factor (TCF). Its explanatory variable was the engine torque change rate. This paper describes the influence of engine transient characteristics on the fuel consumption of a mild HEV. The work attempts to improve the fuel economy of the HEV by introducing a penalty factor in the controller to optimize the use of the engine in transient regimes. A backward vehicle model was developed for a production vehicle with a conventional powertrain and validated experimentally using data available online. The corresponding hybrid vehicle model was developed by integrating the electric motor and battery components with the conventional vehicle model. A P2 off-axis configuration was chosen to this end as the HEV architecture. A conventional equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) was used to split the torque request between the engine and the electric motor. This control strategy was modified with TCF to penalize the engine torque change rate. The results of the simulation show that due to less transient operation of the engine, the fuel consumption was reduced from 923 g to 918 g under the US06 driving cycle. The fuel economy of the model has been simulated for UDDS and HW drive cycles too, and fuel consumption improved by 4.4 g and 3.2 g, respectively. It has been verified that by increasing the battery capacity twice (14s24p), the limitations imposed by the battery capacity can be minimized and the fuel usage can be reduced by 9 g in the UDDS cycle. The article analyses the transportation sector in India with respect to the changing energy mix. A key objective is to contribute to the policy debate on electrification of the transportation sector. The article attempts to serve multiple sub-objectives. The aggregate size of vehicle fleet in operation is estimated. A vehicle survival model is calibrated using primary data collected from the field. Then, based on the extant literature, certain mobility-related parameters are estimated. Using these data passenger mobility is calculated. The estimate for passenger-km travelled in India obtained from the approach is thus a fairly correct estimate for the same. The values are in sharp contrast to some of the earlier studies. Further, future mobility is projected using an S-shaped curve. The mobility data is used to estimate the current energy demand and the consequential carbon emissions. Lastly, the e-vehicle penetration pathways for the future are modelled based on different scenarios. Based on the assumed scenarios, the future demand for the energy and the expected emissions for different electricity mixes are calculated. The adopted approach thus gives a set of plausible future scenarios of the Indian transportation sector making the study a valuable tool for the policymakers and managers. In this paper, a coupling longitudinal-vertical dynamic model of a wheeled vehicle under off-road conditions is established. In the present model, the vehicle's travelling velocity changes as the vehicle heaves under ground excitations. The relative movements between the vehicle body and the wheels in both longitudinal and vertical directions are taken into account. From this model, the vehicle's vertical and pitch motions as well as the longitudinal dynamics are studied. For validation purposes, an experiment was carried out on a wheeled vehicle as travelling through a single speed bump. Through comparisons, it indicates that the proposed model performs well in predicting the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle on an uneven road. Thus, the model is further applied to quantitatively investigate the energy consumption of a vehicle under off-road conditions. It has been found that the energy consumption distribution is strongly affected by the vehicle speed and the road conditions. The key challenge in the innovation of hybrid electric vehicles is the energy management control strategies to split the energy between the sources. The objective of adding an auxiliary source of power to vehicles is to minimize battery stress as well as energy consumption rate (ECR) of the main source and to increase the range of the vehicle. Based on Taguchi and grey relational analysis, the optimal control factors were determined for each of the desired performance factors. In this experimental design, control strategy, vehicle model, battery SOC, and UC SOC are considered as control factors, and ECR, range of the vehicle, and battery stress remain as vehicle performance factors. The confirmatory results show the minimal error between the initial set and the optimum factor to be 7.68 for ECR, 8.54 for range, and 5.49 for battery stress, respectively. The results also reveal the importance of fuzzy-based strategy on hybridization of energy storage systems in electric vehicles and also identified the most and the least influencing factors that affect the vehicle performance. To fulfil future demand for energy and to control pollution, a power-split hybrid electric vehicle is a promising solution combining attributes of a conventional vehicle and an electric vehicle. Since energy is available from two subsystems i.e, engine and battery, there is the freedom to manage it optimally. In this work, model predictive control strategy, that has the constraint handling which makes it a better choice over other strategies for efficient energy management of hybrid electric vehicles. A detailed mathematical model of the power split configured hybrid electric vehicle is developed that encompasses the engine, planetary gear, motor/generator, inverter, and battery. An interior-point optimizer based-nonlinear model predictive control strategy is applied to the developed model by incorporation of operational constraints and cost function. The objective is to curtail fuel consumption while the battery's state of charge should be maintained within predefined limits. The complete developed model was simulated in MATLAB for motor, generator, engine speed, and battery SoC. Computed specific fuel consumption from the proposed MPC during the NEDC and the HWFET cycles are 4.356liters/100km and 2.474 litres/100 km, respectively. These findings are validated by the rule-based strategy of ADVISOR 2003 that provides 4.900 litres/100 km and 3.600 litres/100 km over the NEDC and the HWFET cycles, respectively. This indicates that the proposed MPC shows 11.11 % and 31.26 % improvement in specific fuel consumption in the NEDC and HWFET drive cycles respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
