Starting from the inheritance and promotion of Chinese life philosophy and traditional Chinese medicine wisdom by Chinese narrative medicine practice, this paper discusses the inheritance and echo relationship between the "close textual reading ability" in Chinese narrative medicine practice and the "four diagnoses" in traditional Chinese medicine wisdom, narrative mediation and the "mind-body holistic philosophy" in traditional Chinese medicine, and narrative wisdom and Dao Sheng in Chinese life philosophy. Meanwhile, by analyzing the stories of contemporary doctors' practice of narrative intelligence, this paper expounds that Chinese narrative medicine is a new model of medical education and clinical practice based on the absorption of Chinese traditional life wisdom and the essence of traditional Chinese medicine culture, and the integration of western narrative medicine concepts. It also advocates Chinese scholars to actively build the discipline of "narrative traditional Chinese medicine," constantly translate the academic achievements to foreign countries, and create a good narrative ecology of traditional Chinese medicine. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inverse ratio ventilation (IRV) strategy on cardiopulmonary function in obese patients under general anesthesia. Databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wangfang, WeiP, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and PubMed were systematically searched. All randomized controlled trials' literature on IRV during laparoscopic surgery in obese patients under general anesthesia was collected. After data were extracted and cross-checked, Rev Man 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis. Finally, five randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) were included in the meta-analysis, with a total of 312 patients. Compared with the conventional ventilation group, the inspiratory peak pressure was lower at pneumoperitoneum 30 min and pneumoperitoneum 60 min; the PaO2 and oxygenation index were higher at pneumoperitoneum 60 min, and mean airway pressure was higher at pneumoperitoneum 30 min and pneumoperitoneum 60 min; the dynamic lung compliance was superior at pneumoperitoneum 30 min and pneumoperitoneum 60 min. IRV applied to laparoscopic surgery in obese patients under general anesthesia not only reduces peak airway pressure and improves intraoperative oxygenation index and PaO2 but also enhances mean airway pressure and dynamic lung compliance, which has a specific lung protective effect. In ancient China, Daoist philosophers developed the concepts of qi (energy), Wu Xing (five elements), and yin (feminine, dark, negative) and yang (masculine, bright, positive) opposite forces between 200 and 600 BCE. Based on these philosophies, Zhen Jiu (acupuncture), Ben Cao (materia medica), and the practice of Qi Gong (energy optimization movements) evolved as the three interrelated therapeutic regimens of Chinese medicine (Note 1). Since the time of Zhang Qian, who discovered China's western regions in the 1st century BCE, Hai Yao (the exotic elements of materia medica from the maritime Silk Road countries), had been transmitted from the ancient land and maritime routes of the Silk Road to China in the past two millennia (Note 2). Since the late 17th century, the English East India Company, later called the British East India Company, introduced Yang Yao (opium) to the Manchu Qing Empire to balance a growing trade deficit for tea export from China to the British Empire. After the First Opium War ended in 1842, enterprising expatriate chemists and druggists in the treaty ports imported Xi Yao (modern medicines from the Western world) for sale to the merchant navy and the local market. From the second half of the 19th century onwards, both Hai Yao and Xi Yao have become a fully integrated part of modern China's armamentarium for the Chinese medicine and Western hospitals and retail pharmacy sectors. This paper articulates the journey of adoption of exotic elements of materia medica from the ancient land and sea routes of the Silk Road, including the western regions and the rest of the world in the past two millennia. Opium traders, ship surgeons, medical and pharmaceutical missionaries, enterprising traders, and policymakers together transformed Ben Cao into Xi Yao during the late Manchu Qing dynasty and the early Nationalist Era. Narrative medicine is a multidisciplinary field of inquiry and practice based on the premise that medical care takes place in the context of stories. Research on narrative medicine training suggests that it conveys benefits such as improved communication skills and personal and professional growth to physicians, medical students, and other health care providers. Narrative medicine can promote empathy and trust between patients and physicians and foster self-care. In 2014, the author and a colleague started an ongoing inter-disciplinary narrative medicine program in the Children's Center of the Johns Hopkins Hospital called AfterWards. The program, which meets monthly, is open to all on a volunteer basis. Through literature, art, and writing, AfterWards nurtures empathy, encourages reflective practice, and builds community among a diverse group of health care providers. Through a series of lectures and workshops at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Peking Union Medical College, and Fudan Hospital in Shanghai, the author has introduced AfterWards to Chinese medical educators and clinicians. Working with Dr. Marta Hanson, she created an AfterWards Facilitator's Guide for the use of Chinese practitioners. A recent White Paper on Chinese health care indicates that an infusion of humanities-based education, of which narrative medicine forms a part, can help rebuild patient-physician trust. Recently, there has been an increase in interest in narrative medicine in the United States and China. However, more research is needed to demonstrate the impact of programs like AfterWards. This paper sketches the history and the author's involvement in the development of narrative medicine in China. It also describes "narrative medicine with Chinese characteristics," explaining why narrative medicine is regarded as a tool to materialize the medical humanities in clinical practice, and detailing the features of narrative medicine in China. The features include the wide acceptance of the "22334 model" of narrative medicine, and borrowing theories and practice from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Finally, the author argues that the medical humanities should be given a "Class-A discipline" status, and narrative medicine should be a class-B discipline under the medical humanities. Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, turned into a pandemic in record time. Communication of disease presentation and mechanism of spread remain keys to getting ahead of the virus and limiting its spread beyond the capacity of management. Owing to huge academic focus and pandemic concern around the globe, this bibliometric analysis investigated research productivity related to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic using the Web of Science database. The relevant data were harvested, and search query was further refined by publication years (2020 OR 2019) and document types (article, book chapter, and proceedings paper). Finally, 6694 records were imported and downloaded in Plaintext and BibTeX formats on August 1, 2020. The data analysis was performed using MS Excel, VOS viewer, and Biblioshiny software. Of the 6694 publications that appeared in that period, the USA and Chinese research institutions topped the numbers. At the same time, the Journal of Medical Virology and CUREUS (Cureus Journal of Medical Science), remained favorite journals for publications. The pattern of multi-author publications has outstripped that of single-authors. Apart from COVID-19 and the novel coronavirus, the important keywords mentioned included pandemic, pneumonia, epidemiology, public health, outbreak, epidemic, China, infection, and treatment. The analysis shows a strong local research response from China, with large teams reporting on the disease outbreak. Subsequent studies will document a global response as the virus spreads worldwide. Chinese forensic medicine has a long and brilliant history, and the forensic knowledge in ancient China represents the world's highest medicolegal level at the time. Among all extant essays and works on China's early medical jurisprudence, Xiyuan Jilu (Records for Vindication) written by Song Ci in 1247 CE, during the Southern Song dynasty, is the oldest text on legal medicine in the world. Subsequently, this work went through successive editions and expansions. The book was not simply a manual providing instruction on conducting inquests; it also established standards for all judicial practices in ancient China. From the beginning of the 18th century, the earliest existing Yuan edition and subsequent editions of this book were translated. They contributed to the broad dissemination of ancient Chinese forensic culture in the West. By discussing the diffusion of Xiyuan Jilu and its corresponding studies in the Western world, this paper intends to expound on the cultural transmission of early Chinese forensic medicine, and reveal its values and impacts on the history and development of legal medicine worldwide to provide an illustrative example of Sino-Western medical and cultural exchange. This article summarizes the collaboration between two historians of medicine on Sino-European medical exchanges. Gianna Pomata researches the history of medicine in early modern Europe and Marta Hanson researches the history of medicine in early modern China. The following covers the concept of epistemic genres that Pomata first developed out of her research on the history of the genres historia, observationes, recipes, medical cases, and the commentary in Europe. She connected these genres variously to empiricism, erudition, scientific observation, norm-making, and recording practice. The paper then evaluates how Pomata and Hanson used epistemic genres as a method for doing cross-cultural research on 17th–18th-century Sino-European medical exchanges. Pomata then wrote a comparative history of the medical case in Europe and China. Medicine was one of the articles of tribute paid by other countries and kingdoms to the imperial court of the Qing dynasty (1644–1912). The act of paying tributes and the rituals associated with it enhanced communication and helped establish relationships between ancient China and other nations or territories. The imperial court was generous in return, which attracted many countries to pay tributes. This paper analyzes how medicines as tributes played an important role in consolidating the dominant status of ancient China, and in promoting the exchange of knowledge between Chinese and Western medicine. The defendant's mental capacity is often crucial in criminal procedure, and an expert witness may be requested to conduct a forensic psychiatric evaluation. This paper analyzes the law and clinical practice of adult defendants' forensic psychiatric evaluation in criminal courts between Mainland China and Taiwan China. Results indicated that the law in Taiwan China explicitly mentioned more mental illness and mental capacity than the law in Mainland China regarding forensic psychiatric evaluation. Concerning expert witnesses, Mainland China has established a registration and management system, but in Taiwan China, the judge decides the expert witness's admissibility. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the cultural heritage of all humankind. TCM not only embodies the cultural crystallization of the region and the nation, but also performs the important mission of curing the lives, saving the sick and maintaining the health of the people. In the history of the spread of Chinese medicine to the West, foreign missionaries have played an important role, and researches about this role have continued in China. In the history of Chinese medicine in Germany, there is a pivotal figure named Franz Hübotter (1881–1967), who broke through the deadlock in the academic research of Chinese medicine in the 19th century in Germany, but the discussion on his contribution has been comparatively rare in China. His works and translations are not only of medical value, but are also valuable historically, culturally, and socially. The historical development of TCM has the authenticity of history, the integrity of the environment, and the richness of the times. Medical experts have explored and verified the value of medicine. Translators and scholars are mainly concerned with the dissemination of knowledge from an intercultural perspective. This paper provides a primitive and objective introduction to Franz Hübotter, hoping to trigger off the secondary research among scholars of different professional backgrounds and to expand professional thinking, and then get over the barriers of disciplines. Behçet's disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects multiple organs and systems. It is characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers. A previous study reported that the IL-17A inhibitor secukinumab can improve the skin and mucosal manifestations in patients with refractory Behçet's disease. Additionally, secukinumab has been shown to effectively improve neurological symptoms when administered for Behçet's disease. However, we report a case where Behçet's disease occurred after the treatment of psoriasis with the IL-17A inhibitor ixekizumab. To summarize its clinical characteristics and treatment experience, we consulted relevant domestic and international literature and conducted a literature review. We concluded that anti-IL-17A treatment may lead to the development of Behçet's disease. The reported cases are more likely to occur in middle-aged men with varying onset times. The main manifestations include oral and vulvar mucosal ulcers. Furthermore, the gut microbiota may be involved in paradoxical Behçet's disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In modern times, 15 missionary hospitals were established in Shanghai, including 6 Protestant hospitals and 9 Catholic hospitals. These hospitals were the products of Western missionaries in China. The establishment of missionary hospitals objectively introduced Western medicine into China and changed its original medical system. Based on documents and periodicals, Shanghai archives, Xujiahui library materials, hospital historical records, and domestic and foreign library historical materials, this paper systematically reviews the development of missionary hospitals in Shanghai, and discusses their balance between medicine and religion, to provide ideas and references for future research. Background: Pancreatic head cancer accompanied by obstructive jaundice is a common clinical situation. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) on clinical outcomes in patients with severe obstructive jaundice. Methods: Patients with a bilirubin level of ≥250 µmol/L at diagnosis who underwent PBD were included. The primary endpoints and secondary endpoints were the postoperative severe complications rates. Secondary endpoints were the degree of improvement in general condition, predictors of severe postoperative complications, and the impact of PBD on patients with bilirubin levels >300 µmol/L. Results: In total, 289 patients were included, and 188 patients (65.1%) underwent PBD. The patients who met the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification II-III stages decreased from 119 to 100 (P = 0.047) after PBD. The overall severe complications were significantly more frequent in the direct surgery (DS) group than in the PBD group (34.7% vs. 22.9%, P = 0.031), especially the postoperative hemorrhage (6/43 [14.0%] vs. 9/35 [25.7%], P = 0.038) and intra-abdominal infection (6/43 [14.0%] vs. 10/35 [28.6%], P = 0.018). The ASA classifications II--III (odds ratio [OR]=2.89, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.38-4.31), P = 0.01) and DS (OR = 3.65, 95% CI: 1.45-7.08; P = 0.003) were independently associated with severe postoperative complications. The occurrence rate of severe postoperative complications in patients with a bilirubin level >300 µmol/L who underwent PBD was significantly lower than in patients who underwent DS (25.6% vs. 40.6%, P = 0.028), but the benefit of PBD was not observed in patients who had a bilirubin level between 250 and 300 µmol/L. Introduction: With the rapid rise of the Internet, it has become an indispensable part of adolescents’ learning and lives. To promote sustainable development of the Internet, fostering good Internet moral literacy among adolescents is particularly important. Given the current absence of a Chinese version of the Internet Moral Literacy Scale suitable for adolescents, this study translated and conducted two studies on the scale developed by Lau and Yuen. Methods: In Study 1, item analysis and factor validity analysis of the scale were conducted with 343 adolescents from China. In Study 2, a large‑scale cross‑sectional survey was conducted to analyze descriptive statistics, factor validity, measurement invariance across genders, difference analysis, and concurrent validity of the scale. The study 2 involved 7837 Chinese adolescents. Results: The results from study 1 showed that most items met the specified criteria. However, one item exhibited higher internal consistency than the overall Cronbach’s alpha value when removed. Exploratory factor analysis indicated a more suitable two‑dimensional model, with one item showing cross‑loading issues. Study 2 revealed that the Internet Moral Literacy Scale had good internal reliability, and the two‑factor structure exhibited excellent factor validity. In addition, significant gender differences in Internet moral literacy levels were identified, with males scoring lower than females. A significant negative correlation was found between Internet moral literacy and both cyberbullying (r = −0.87, P < 0.001) and moral disengagement (r = −0.75, P < 0.001). Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-COV-2) associated with COVID-19 disease was first reported from Wuhan Hubei Province, China, in December 2019. Aim and Objective: The current study is aimed to evaluate seroprevalence of SARS-COV-2 antibodies in laboratory personnel working in association with COVID-19 diagnostic work. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2020 and December 2020 to evluate seropositivity of COVID-19 in laboratory personnel by using COVID-19 IgG ELISA. Results: A total number of 91 laboratory personnel were included in the current study. Out of them, 45 (49.45%) were males, 46 (50.55%) were females. Out of 91 participants, 44 (48.35%) were doctors, 19 (20.8%) were Lab technicians, 13 (14.28%) were sample collection technicians, 7 (7.69%) were transport persons, 4 (4.39%) were research scientist, and 4 (4.39%) were data managers. Out of 91 samples, 25 were positive. Out of 44 doctors, 11 were positive contributing for (25%); out of 19 laboratory technicians, 5 were positive contributing for (26%); and out of 13 sample collection technicians, 5 were positive contributing for (38.46%). Conclusion: Seropositivity in asymptomatic individuals means that we need to be even more cautious in hospitals with masks, hand washing, and sanitization. Repeated serosurveys will help in the implementation of infection control policies in a systematic way, which in turn helps in protection of health care workers against COVID-19. The article presents a study which aims to identify and improve understanding of research trends in the monosialoganglioside (GM1) field from 1942 to 2011. Over the years, there were 10 126 papers on GM1 that were added to the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI). These include articles, meeting abstracts, reviews and proceeding papers mostly from the US, Japan and Germany. The study was performed at the Medical College of Hebei in China on November 18, 2011 using bibliometric methods.

PURPOSE: Through three neurocritical care unit (NCCU) surveys in China, we tried to understand the development status of neurocritical care and clarify its future development. METHODS: Using a cross‑sectional survey method and self‑report questionnaires, the number and quality of NCCUs were investigated through three steps: administering the questionnaire, sorting the survey data, and analyzing the survey data. RESULTS: At the second and third surveys, the number of NCCUs (76/112/206) increased by 47% and 84%, respectively. The NCCUs were located in tertiary grade A hospitals or teaching hospitals (65/100/181) in most provinces (24/28/29). The numbers of full‑time doctors (359/668/1337) and full‑time nurses (904/1623/207) in the NCCUs increased, but the doctor–bed ratio and nurse–bed ratio were still insufficient (0.4:1 and 1.3:1). CONCLUSION: In the past 20 years, the growth rate of NCCUs in China has accelerated, while the allocation of medical staff has been insufficient. Although most NCCU hospital bed facilities and instruments and equipment tend to be adequate, there are obvious defects in some aspects of NCCUs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: A scientometric analysis was conducted to characterize the global research publications in extrahepatic portal venous obstruction (EHPVO), and state-of-the-art visualization graphics were generated to provide insight into specific bibliometric variables. Materials and Methods: The Web of Science database was accessed for research productivity and bibliometric variables of countries, institutions, authors, journals, and content analysis of top-20 cited documents were performed. Collaborative networks and co-occurrence of keywords map were generated using VOSviewer software. Results: Two hundred and sixteen records were retrieved with an annual growth rate of 2.53%. India is the leading country in productivity (n = 4339), followed by the USA and China. Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, was the top productive institute. Sarin SK was the most prolific author, having the highest citations received and h-index. The hotspot topics were "portal hypertension," "cirrhosis," "children," "biliopathy/cholangiopathy," "liver fibrosis," and "liver transplantation" as per keyword co-occurrence networking. J Gastroenterol Hepatol had the most publications of EHPVO research as well the h-index. Regarding collaborative network mapping, the USA and Primignani M were the significant nodes among country and author, respectively. Conclusion: EHPVO research publication volume is low but is gradually progressing with dominant contributions from Indian institutes and authors. Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of bronchial lavage P16INK4A promoter methylation and lung cancer.Materials and Methods: The databases of PubMed, Medline, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang were electronically searched by two reviewers to find the suitable studies related to the association between P16INK4A promoter methylation and lung cancer. The P16INK4A promoter methylation rate was extracted from each included individual study. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic ROC curve of bronchial lavage P16INK4Aas a biomarker for diagnosis of lung cancer were pooled by stata 11.0 software (Stata Corporation, College Station, TX, USA).Results: At last, 10 publications were included in this meta-analysis. Of the included 10 studies, five are published in English with relatively high quality and other five papers published in Chinese have relatively low quality. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of bronchial lavage P16INK4A promoter methylation for lung cancer diagnosis were 0.61 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.57-0.65) and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.78-0.85), respectively, with random effect model. The ROC curve were calculated and drawn according to Bayes' theorem by stata 11.0 software. The systematic area under the ROC was 0.72 (95% CI: 0.68-0.76), which indicated that the diagnostic value of bronchial lavage P16INK4A promoter methylation for lung cancer was relatively high. Moreover, no significant publication bias was existed in this meta-analysis (t = 0.69, P > 0.05).Conclusion: Bronchial lavage P16INK4A promoter methylation can be a potential biomarker for diagnosis of lung cancer. In the past few years, the medical knowledge transfer in a West-East direction has attracted increased scholarly attention from European and American historians, whereas studies on such "knowledge travels" conducted in the East Asian context focus mainly on political and socio-cultural concepts. To provide an alternative perspective on the travel of Western medicine to Chinese soil, a case study on "diabetes" is conducted, under the theoretical framework of "transcultural conceptual history." This article systematically analyzes the standardization, popularization, politicization, and derivatization of "diabetes," calling for further attention to transcultural histories of medical concepts in modern China. This article explores China's state-level knowledge production on medicinal ingredients in northwestern Sichuan in the 1950s. Drawing on county-level archives, published materials and interviews, this historical article traces how different levels of governments and state-owned trading companies produced knowledge about medicinal ingredients and its production. It argues that on one hand the state's procurement standards codified the knowledge about medicinal ingredients from the marketplace and the local producers. On the other hand, direct extraction of knowledge from the medicine gatherers and cultivators verbalized and collected the previously tacit local knowledge about the production of medicinal ingredients, which would help to alleviate the shortage in the supply of traditional Chinese medicines throughout the 1950s. Song China was a period in which China experienced a great increase in its population. Concurrently, the Song dynasty also experienced a rise in the frequency of epidemics and two major wars with the Western Xia and Liao dynasties during the 1000s and 1040s. The consequences of these changes were exacerbated by the increased geographical mobility of certain social groups such as traders and examinees attending civil service examinations. Thus, casualties of wars, epidemics, or disease, especially of people whose families were far away and could not care for them were left without care and "their corpses often lay bare along the roads." This new social environment created a need for general relief. The Northern Song government (960–1127 CE), especially during the reign of Emperor Huizong, established an innovative public health system to address this issue. The public health system included poorhouses, public hospitals, and pauper's cemeteries. The first were more of charity organizations, whereas the latter two promoted public health by providing medical services for the poor and burial for those that nobody cared for. In terms of rationale behind these institutions, on the one hand, they constituted an attempt to get the poor and homeless off the streets while providing them relief or burial. On the other hand, it seems that Huizong's deep concern with medicine propelled him to design and implement a comprehensive public health system oriented to prevent contagion and outbreak of epidemics. This article depicts the background, the organization, and the functions of the system. The development of the medicinal trade and markets in late imperial China increased anxiety among scholarly physicians about the authenticity of medicines. Even though the market was typically depicted by scholarly physicians as a place full of tricks and deceptions, it was a repertoire where practical knowledge about authentication was created and circulated. The specialized knowledge was mainly transmitted through oral tradition. But in some instances, it was also written down by scholarly physicians or merchants, allowing us to reconstruct the techniques and their underlying rationales. Authentication of medicines mobilized multiple sensory perceptions of the human body, consisting of observing, tasting, smelling, touching, and performing small tests. All these techniques played different roles in the practice of authentication. Even though these sensory techniques seemed like a collection of trivial and practical records without any coherent rationales, an underlying episteme could be detected through a close investigation. Merchants and practitioners in the market did not understand the nature and materiality of medicines by any established theories. Instead, they actively engaged with the tangible form of medicines through the senses and bodily techniques. This sensory form of knowing indicates a type of practical expertise that is distant from the scholarly tradition of materia medica in late imperial China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drawing on our research in China's southern mountains about ethnic medicines, and intrigued by the proverbial Chinese view that Yao Shi Tong Yuan (food and medicine have the same source), this article traces the eventfulness and powers at play in healing and eating when they are seen as closely related forms of life. Ancient and modern traditional Chinese medicine understandings of flavor are here shown to be a common basis for the healing and harming powers of both food and medicine. The term Wu Wei , or five flavors is explored as both experiences of eating and cooking, and some patterns of qi movement that animate and invigorate the body. Following Vivienne Lo's term "potent flavors," practices of harmonizing (He , Tiao He) flavors in Chinese medicine, as in cooking, express a world of natural powers and expert embodiment that goes far beyond mere taste. The present research of Chinese medical history lack detailed discussions on Chinese medicine philology of the elderly and the various sorting of related literature of physiology and diseases both at home and abroad. Based on previous literature, the article aims to introduce the publishing trend of medical books on health cultivation and prolonging life on since modern times, generally describe its significance, and initially analyze the contents related to health cultivation for the elderly. The article finds out that after the scientific concepts were imported into China in large quantities from the beginning of the 20th century, the past superstitions rose again. The sciences of nutrition, bacteriology, and physiology in such books had all verified that the road to immortality was possible. The concept of longevity at the time emphasized a concept that could be controlled by science. With the advancement of scientific research and health concepts, people believed that they could eventually achieve immortality. Objective: To assess the relationship between hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and HBV/HCV double infection and hepatocellular carcinoma risk in Chinese population.Materials and Methods: The databases of PubMed and CNKI were electronic searched by reviewers according to the searching words of HBV, HCV, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The related case-control studies or cohort studies were included. The association between virus infection and hepatocellular carcinoma risk was demonstrated by odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). The data were pooled by fixed or random effects model according to the statistical heterogeneity. The publication bias was assessed by Begg's funnel plot and Egger's linear regression test.Results: Finally, 13 publications were included in this meta-analysis. For significant statistical heterogeneity (I2 = 99.8%,P = 0.00), the OR was pooled by random effects model. The pooled results showed that HBV infection can significantly increase the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (OR = 58.01, 95% CI: 44.27-71.75); statistical heterogeneity analysis showed that significant heterogeneity existed in evaluation of HCV infection and hepatocellular carcinoma risk across the included 13 studies I2 = 77.78%, P = 0.00). The OR was pooled by random effects model. The pooled results showed that HCV infection can significantly increase the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (OR = 2.34, 95% CI: 1.20-3.47); significant heterogeneity did not exist in evaluation HBV/HCV double infection and hepatocellular carcinoma risk for the included 13 studies (I2 = 0.00%,P = 0.80). The OR was pooled by fixed effects model. The pooled results showed that HBV/HCV double infection can significantly increase the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (OR = 11.39, 95% CI: 4.58-18.20). No publication bias was found in the aspects of HBV, HCV, and HBV/HCV double infection and hepatocellular carcinoma.Conclusion: For Chinese population, HBV, HCV or HBV/HCV double infection can significantly increase the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. Objective: To assess the characteristics of total immunoglobulin E (IgE) and allergen-specific IgE (sIgE) to 20 common allergens in 154 patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). To assess the correlation of clinical food allergy with positive food allergens' sIgE results. We further discuss the significance of IgE as a potential biomarker for AD disease severity. Methods: A total of 154 AD patients were collected from 15 hospitals nationwide in China from 2019 to 2021. Serum IgE was measured using reverse-enzyme immuno capture test (REAST). Patients were required to have at least one positive sIgE (N ≥ 0.35 IU/mL). Patients were divided into groups according to gender, age, disease severity, and region. SPSS 26.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: Compared with adolescent and adult, AD in infancy and childhood showed significantly higher frequencies of positive sIgE to food allergens, including egg, cow milk, and wheat (P < 0.01). However, adolescent and adult AD showed significantly higher frequencies of positive sIgE to inhaled allergens, dermatophagoides farinae, and house dust mite. In addition, sIgE in different sexes were different. Compared with women, men showed higher frequencies of positive allergen-specific IgE level to wheat, dermatophagoides farinae, and house dust mite. The most common food allergens with elevated sIgE levels were egg (71%), cow milk (39%) and wheat (32%). However, AD patients reported seafood, including crab, shrimp, and fish, as the most frequent food allergens which aggravate their disease in their daily life. Only 18 (12%) patients reported definite correlation of clinical practice with positive food allergens' IgE results. Among 154 sIgE-positive patients, 99 patients had an increase of total IgE (≥60 IU/ml). TotalIgE (tIgE) levels were significantly different between mild (193 ± 239 IU/mL), moderate (170 ± 202 IU/mL), and severe (375 ± 343 IU/mL) forms of AD patients (P < 0.01). AD patients with accompanied allergic diseases showed significantly higher tIgE levels than those without accompanied allergic symptoms (280 ± 286 IU/mL vs 194 ± 248 IU/mL). Conclusion: Neither sIgE nor tIgE levels can be used to evaluate the condition or severity of AD. AD patients with accompanied allergic diseases showed significantly higher tIgE levels than those without accompanied allergic symptoms. Infantile AD patients are more allergic to food, while adolescents and adults are more allergic to environmental antigens. IgE tests must be interpreted by combining with clinical history to avoid unnecessary food avoidance. Aim: Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value measurement of nodes in diffusion-weighted images (DWI) has been widely used for diagnosis and differential diagnosis of human tumors. We evaluated whether the ADC provided by DWI varies according to the state of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in breast cancer (BC). Materials and Methods: English and Chinese electronic databases were searched for potentially relevant studies followed by a comprehensive literature search. Summary standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used for ER and PR category of ADC value with the use of the Z test. Results: Final analysis from 6 eligible cohort studies between 2010 and 2012 were selected for inclusion. Overall estimates revealed that the mean ADC of ER-positive or PR-positive cancer was significantly lower than that of ER-negative or PR-negative breast cancer (ER- VS. ER+: SMD = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.02-1.27, P = 0.042; PR- VS. PR+: SMD = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.04-0.86, P = 0.032). Country-stratified analysis indicated the mean ADC of ER-positive cancer was significantly lower in China (SMD = 3.92, 95% CI: 2.22-5.62, P < 0.001). Further subgroup analysis by MRI machine type implied that ADC values may be a potential diagnostic indicator for PR levels in breast cancer only when using Non-Phillips 1.5T scanner (SMD = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.64-1.12, P < 0.001). Conclusion: ADC values vary significantly according to the ER and PR levels in BC patients, indicating that cancer heterogeneity affects imaging parameters. Background: The critical aspects of risk management for students are providing knowledge, building positive attitudes, and readiness to practice. Our study aimed to assess Chinese health-care university students' knowledge (K), attitude (A), and readiness to practice (rP) regarding disaster medicine and preparedness. Materials and Methods: A survey was carried out using a self-administered disaster medicine and preparedness questionnaire. Three main outcome measures were K (22 items), A (16 items), and rP (11 items). Responses were scored and classified as high, moderate, and low. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed for data analysis. Results: A total of 769 valid questionnaires were collected. The associations between K, A, and rP scores was significant, i.e., K–A scores (r = 0.449, P = 0.000), K–rP scores (r = 0.312, P = 0.000), and A–rP scores (r = 0.656, P = 0.000). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated direct low-to-moderate effects of gender, age, attitude, and knowledge on readiness to practice (R2 = 0.198; P < 0.001). Conclusions: The study discovered that most of the students had a moderate level of knowledge, moderate level of attitude, high level of readiness to practice, and a moderate level of total KArP. K, A, and rP were significantly correlated, and K and A were predictors for rP among the health-care students. The findings indicate the importance of health-care colleges for building students' knowledge, attitudes, and readiness to practice disaster medicine and preparedness before joining the profession. Congenital long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a type of cardiac ion channelopathy that increases the susceptibility of the affected individuals to spontaneous ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation or even sudden cardiac death. More than 17 subtypes have been identified. This was a systematic review of the published case series or reports on the clinical characteristics, genetic basis, and patient outcomes from Hong Kong with rare genetic variants of LQTS which fall outside the traditional LQTS classification system. PubMed and Zenodo were searched from the corresponding inception until January 15, 2022. Twenty-four studies were identified. Of these, one article met the inclusion criteria. The article included a case series of six patients from a cohort with 134 patients. They had either asymptomatic LQTS with HCN4 mutations (n = 1, c.1471G>A, QTc: 420 ms with prolonged QTc of 670 ms during the recovery phase of treadmill test), RYR2 (n = 1, c.7060G>A, QTc: 480 ms) or SCN10A (n = 2, c.3542C>T, QTc: 439 ms-480 ms), or LQTS with multiorgan syndromes with GATA3 mutations (n = 1, c. 815C>T, Barakat syndrome: Sensorineural deafness, hypoparathyroidism, and renal disease, QTc: 450-489 ms), or SLC6A8 (n = 1, c.691_693del; X-linked creatine transporter deficiency, with c.6065A>G mutation in AKAP9, known modifier of LQTS; QTc: 485 ms). In addition, rare genetic variants in non-LQTS causative genes were identified. Future studies should be conducted to compare the variants and investigate their functional consequences. Aims: The aim of this study is to investigate nurses' research capacity and related training needs in Shanghai to provide evidence to further nursing research training. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional design with a convenience sample of 1226 clinical registered nurses, including the Nursing Research Capacity of Self-Evaluation Questionnaire and Research Training Needs Form, was recruited from 14 public hospitals in Shanghai, China. And the influencing factors of nurses' research capacity were analyzed. Results: The mean score of nurses' research capacity was (46.25 ± 22.90) in Shanghai, that was at a low-to-medium level. The influencing factors of nurses' research capacity including age ( F = 15.983, P < 0.001), education ( F = 20.738, P < 0.001), professional title ( F = 6.993, P = 0.001), working years ( F = 7.803, P < 0.001), department ( F = 8.545, P < 0.001), and position ( F = -3.354, P = 0.001). The most critical factor is the time to participate a study ( P < 0.001). And what the nurses demanded were writing skills, special lectures, and participating in colleagues' projects mostly. Conclusion: Nurse's scientific research capacity still needs to be improved in Shanghai. The key to improving this situation is the individualized scientific research training and education for nurses and the practice of more participation in scientific research projects. Abstract: Objective: To assess the diagnostic efficacy of the currently most widely used indirect hemagglutination assay (IHA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for detection of Schistosoma japonicum human infections. Methods: A comprehensive search was undertaken from China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Science Citation Index Expanded, Proquest, and the inclusion and exclusion criteria were strictly settled. The funnel plot was used to assess the publication bias, Cochran''s Q test was employed to measure the homogeneity between studies, a summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve was used to compare the diagnostic accuracy between the IHA and ELISA qualitatively by means of the Weighted Least Square method, the Ordinary Least Square method and the Robust regression method, and the diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) was drawn to compare the accuracy quantitatively. Results: Out of 785 publications, 19 papers were eventually selected for analysis. Literature quality assessment indicated that minor publication bias existed in studies pertaining IHA test, but no bias was found in literatures regarding ELISA test. The heterogeneity test showed a heterogeneity between studies was present (χ2=466.07 and 34.67, both P values<0.0001). The areas under the SROC curves of IHA were all higher than that of ELISA test using the three methods (Weighted Least Square method: 0.766 vs. 0.695, Ordinary Least Square method: 0.826 vs. 0.741, Robust regression: 0.815 vs. 0.715). The TPR* values for IHA and ELISA were 0.710, 0.759, 0.749, and 0.650, 0.686 and 0.666, respectively, and OR values were 5.997, 9.937, 8.893, and 3.432, 4.784 and 3.959, respectively. The DOR of IHA was 9.41 (95% CI: 4.88-18.18), and 4.78 (95% CI: 3.21-7.13) for ELISA. Conclusions: All above results revealed that the diagnostic performance of IHA is better than that of ELISA. However, taking into account their unsatisfactory diagnostic value in areas with low infection intensity, a search for a better diagnostic test that can be applied in field situations in China should be given high priority. Background: Endoscopy-related infections have caused multiple outbreaks. The importance of surveillance culture is gradually recognized, but sampling techniques are not consistent in many guidelines. It is unclear whether the Flush-Brush-Flush sampling method (FBFSM) is more sensitive than the conventional flush sampling method (CFSM) and whether different sampling brushes have different effects. Methods: The propensity score matching method was done with two matching ways, 1:1 nearest neighbor propensity score matching and full matching was used to analyze the surveillance culture data collected by FBFSM and CFSM. We fit a confounder-adjusted multiple generalized linear logistic regression model to estimate the marginal odds ratio (OR). A paired study was applied to compare the sampling effect of polyurethane foam (PU) head brush and polyamide (PA) head brush. Result: From 2016 to 2020, 316 reprocessed endoscope samples were collected from all 59 endoscopy centers in Tianjin. About 279 (88.3%) reprocessed endoscopes met the threshold of Chinese national standards (<20 CFU/Channel). The qualified rate of reprocessed endoscopes sampling by CFSM (91.8%) and FBFSM (81.6%) was statistically different (p < 0.05). The adjusted OR by full matching for FBFSM was 7.98 (95% confidence interval: 3.35-21.78). Forty one pairs of colonoscopes, after reprocessing from 27 centers, were tested by PA and PU brushes, and no difference was found in microbial recovery. Abstract: Hainan is an island province in south China with a high frequency of unconventional emergencies due to its special geographic location and national military defense role. Given the limited transportation route from Hainan to the outside world, self-rescue is more important to Hainan Province than other provinces in China and it is therefore imperative to establish an independent, scientific as well as efficient provincal disaster medical system in Hainan. The regulatory role for vulnerability analysis/assessment has been demonstrated in establisment of disaster medical system in varoius countries and or regions. In this paper, we attempt to describe/propose how to adopt vulnerability assessment through mathematical modeling of major biophysical social vulnerability factors to establish an independent, scientific, effieicnt and comprehensive provincial disaster medical system in Hainan. Since the onset of the pandemic in Wuhan city, China, forecasting and projections of the pandemic are the areas of interest for the investigators, and the basic reproduction rate R0 always stayed the favorite tool. The basic reproduction number (R0) is either ratio or rate or the basic reproductive rate. This dimensionless number was calculated in the past to describe the contagiousness or transmissibility of infectious agents for many communicable diseases. Its importance in the context of COVID-19 is not less, it tells us about the public health measures to be undertaken for disease prevention, and how the transmission of COVID-19 will be affected or eliminated. R0 is affected by several biological, sociobehavioral, and environmental factors which decide agent transmission. R0 is estimated by using complex mathematical models, the results of which are easily distorted, misjudged, and misused. R0 is not a biological constant for an agent or pathogen, it is a rate over time. It can measure the disease severity and also gives an estimate about the herd immunity required for the reversal of epidemic. R0 cannot be altered through vaccination campaigns though it can tell us about the relationship between the population's immune status and epidemic curve. Modeled R0 values are dependent on the model structures and assumptions made. Some R0 values reported in the scientific literature are likely outdated as assumptions are frequently changing in the current pandemic. Following standard treatments, the traditional model for enhancing anti-tumor immunity involves performing immune reconstitution (e.g., adoptive immune cell therapies or immunoenhancing drugs) to prevent recurrence. For patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer, we report here on two objectives, the immunosenescence for advanced non-small cell lung cancer and hydrogen gas inhalation for immune reconstitution. From July 1st to September 25th, 2019, 20 non-small cell lung cancer patients were enrolled to evaluate the immunosenescence of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets, including T cell, natural killer/natural killer T cell and gamma delta T cell. Two weeks of hydrogen inhalation was performed during the waiting period for treatment-related examination. All patients inhaled a mixture of hydrogen (66.7%) and oxygen (33.3%) with a gas flow rate of 3 L/min for 4 hours each day. None of the patients received any standard treatment during the hydrogen inhalation period. After pretreatment testing, major indexes of immunosenescence were observed. The abnormally higher indexes included exhausted cytotoxic T cells, senescent cytotoxic T cells, and killer Vδ1 cells. After 2 weeks of hydrogen therapy, the number of exhausted and senescent cytotoxic T cells decreased to within the normal range, and there was an increase in killer Vδ1 cells. The abnormally lower indexes included functional helper and cytotoxic T cells, Th1, total natural killer T cells, natural killer, and Vδ2 cells. After 2 weeks of hydrogen therapy, all six cell subsets increased to within the normal range. The current data indicate that the immunosenescence of advanced non-small cell lung cancer involves nearly all lymphocyte subsets, and 2 weeks of hydrogen treatment can significantly improve most of these indexes. However, its clinical applications for the treatment of thyroid nodules and metastatic cervical lymph nodes are still under debate both in China and abroad. In 2015, the "Zhejiang Expert consensus on thermal ablation for thyroid benign nodules, microcarcinoma, and metastatic cervical lymph nodes (2015 edition)," was released by the Thyroid Cancer Committee of Zhejiang Anti-Cancer Association, China. The 2019 novel Corona Virus pandemic beginning from Wuhan, China primarily affects the respiratory tract but its has impacted clinical practice across a range of specialities including neurology. We review the bearing of the 2019 NCoV infection on neurological practice. Neurological manifestations are less common than respiratory manifestations, yet conspicuous, affecting nearly over a third of hospitalized individuals. These may be classified in to early -- headache, dizziness, hyposmia and hypogeusia and late -- encephalopathy. Rarely but surely, a very small proportion of infected individuals might present with stroke. Certain neurological conditions, including cerebrovascular disease in both China and Italy and dementia in Italy predispose to infection and more severe manifestations, requiring intensive care unit admission. There is no convincing evidence that the manifestations, course and outcome of various neurological disorders is impacted by 2019 nCoV infection. Concerns of an increased risk of febrile seizures offset by a reduced frequency of infection in the paediatric age group. Individuals with multiple sclerosis might potentially experience both true and pseudorelapses. Besides a direct effect, 2019 nCoV has tremendously affected neurological care by disrupting the continuity of care and the availability of neurological medicines worldwide. Nitric oxide (NO) has been proven to be a key regulator in the mammalian immune response, such as the innate and adaptive immune responses to tumors. The messenger NO involves T helper cell differentiation and lymphocyte biofunctions. In this study, we employed N,N'-di-sec-butyl-N,N'-dinitroso-1,4-phenylenediamine as NO donor and released NO around tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in vitro by short-time blue light irradiation. The interferon-γ secretion of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes was investigated to study the functional changes caused by the accurate spatio-temporal delivery of NO. The downregulation of interferon-γ in tumor infiltrating lymphocytes after NO treatment indicates promising biological applications to potentially play a role in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Microglia participate in bi-directional control of brain repair after stroke. Previous studies have demonstrated that hydrogen protects brain after ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) by inhibiting inflammation, but the specific mechanism of anti-inflammatory effect of hydrogen is poorly understood. The goal of our study is to investigate whether inhalation of high concentration hydrogen (HCH) is able to attenuate I/R-induced microglia activation. Eighty C57B/L male mice were divided into four groups: sham, I/R, I/R + HCH and I/R + N2/O2 groups. Assessment of animals happened in "blind" matter. I/R was induced by occlusion of middle cerebral artery for one hour). After one hour, filament was withdrawn, which induced reperfusion. Hydrogen treated I/R animals inhaled mix of 66.7% H2 balanced with O2 for 90 minutes, starting immediately after initiation of reperfusion. Control animals (N2/O2) inhaled mix in which hydrogen was replaced with N2 for the same time (90 minutes). The brain injury, such as brain infarction and development of brain edema, as well as neurobehavioral deficits were determined 23 hours after reperfusion. Effect of HCH on microglia activation in the ischemic penumbra was investigated by immunostaining also 23 hours after reperfusion. mRNA expression of inflammation related genes was detected by PCR. Our results showed that HCH attenuated brain injury and consequently reduced neurological dysfunction after I/R. Furthermore, we demonstrated that HCH directed microglia polarization towards anti-inflammatory M2 polarization. This study indicates hydrogen may exert neuroprotective effects by inhibiting the microglial activation and regulating microglial polarization. Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate and compare the radiographic efficacy of the quality of obturation and to assess the number of voids and the obturation time in primary teeth using Pastinject™, disposable needle, and capillary tips.Materials and Methods: A total of 34 teeth with 103 canals were randomly divided into three groups using chit method, based on used application: Group 1: Pastinject™ (Micro-Mega, Besancon, France); Group 2: Disposable needle (23G short needle BD Discardit™, Becton Dickinson India Pvt. Ltd.), and Group 3: Capillary tips (Meta Biomed© Co. Ltd., China). All the groups were named based on obturation systems used. To compare the quality of obturation, the Chi-square test was used; to assess the number of voids, Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA test was used; and to evaluate the obturation time, post hoc Scheffe one-way ANOVA test was used. All P values having <0.05 were considered as statistical significant (P < 0.05). Kappa statistics were performed to check interexaminer reliability. Descriptive statistics were used for evaluation using SPSS (version. 21).Results: Capillary tips resulted in better optimal filled canals and less obturation time, compared to disposable needle and Pastinject (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference evident among three groups in relation to voids (P = 0.111).Conclusion: Capillary tip technique proved to be the most effective, yielding a higher number of optimally filled canals and minimal voids, combined with easier placement of the material into the canals when compared to Pastinject and disposable needle obturation. Aim: The purpose of this article is to determine the racial predilection of C-shaped canal configuration in a mandibular second molar. Background: Unusual root canal anatomy always poses a diagnostic and treatment challenge. Identification of such variation is important for the success of root canal treatment outcome. C-shaped canal configuration is such an aberrant morphology of molar teeth that vary in different population and is commonly seen in a mandibular second molar. Thus, knowledge of racial predilection of C-shaped canal configuration in different population for early diagnosis is obligatory. Materials and Methods: An exhaustive search was undertaken to identify published research articles related to C-shaped canal configuration in mandibular second molars. Forty-three research articles were analyzed which included 12,481 mandibular second molars. Chi-square test using value of P < 0.05 was performed to assess the statistical significance of this anomalous anatomic variation among the different population. Results: Statistical test revealed a significant variation between the Asian and nonAsian population. The highest incidence of racial predilection was observed in China (Asia) with 93.1%, and the minimum was observed in America with 2.7%. Background: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Influenza A virus Subtype H7N9 (H7N9) have both had a great impact on China in the 21st century, causing significant negative impacts on health, the economy, and even global security. The control efforts for SARS were heavily criticized, the H7N9 response, 10 years later was acknowledged to be much better. Aims: This article explores communication for emergency management of SARS in 2003 and H7N9 in 2013 in China, to provide useful evidence for government and practitioner on management improvement for infectious disease outbreaks response in China and international community in the future. Methods: This study uses a qualitative case study approach, including in-depth interviews, literature review, and document, to analysis the emergency management of SARS in 2003 and H7N9 in 2013 in China, identified the problems of communication with the emergency management process for SARS and H7N9. Results: The control efforts for SARS were slow to be mobilized and were heavily criticized and generally considered to be suboptimal, as the poor handling of SARS exposed serious communication problems in the then emergency management system processes. The H7N9 response, 10 years later, was acknowledged to be much better. Conclusion: Communication is very important in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. Background: The efficacy of surgery alone for patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still unsatisfactory. Preoperative chemotherapy (PCT) is proven effective induction therapies followed by surgery; however, few their superiority remains uncertain. We performed a systemic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the PCT for NSCLC patients.Materials and Methods: A literature search was performed in the PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Cochrane databases. NSCLC patients treated with PCT plus surgery (PCT-S) or surgery (S) alone between 2006 and 2016 were analyzed.Results: A total of eleven studies, involving a total of 2999 patients, were finally enrolled in this meta-analysis. Meta-analysis shows that PCT-S might have lower recurrence rate than S (odds ratio [OR] = 0.75, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.60, 0.94], P = 0.01). However, no differences were found between two groups in overall survival rate (OR = 1.26, 95% CI [0.92, 1.72], P = 0.15) and (OR = 1.12, 95% CI [0.93, 1.33], P = 0.23), 3-year disease-free survival rate (OR = 1.22, 95% CI [0.73, 2.04], P = 0.44) and intraoperative and postoperative complication rates (OR = 1.24, 95% CI [0.89,1.74], P = 0.20).Conclusions: Two treatments have similar safety and efficacy. However, PCT can reduce the rate of local and distant recurrence, which is an independent risk factor for NSCLC prognosis and may improve the prognosis of NSCLC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: X-ray cross-complementing groups 1 (XRCC1) rs1799782 C>T polymorphisms and colorectal cancer susceptibility were not clear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between XRCC1 rs1799782 C>T polymorphisms and colorectal cancer susceptibility by meta-analysis.Materials and Methods: Related databases of Medline, CNKI, and Wanfang were systematic searched for the studies related to XRCC1 rs1799782 C>T polymorphisms and colorectal cancer risk in Chinese Han population. The genotype distribution of CC, CT and TT were extracted from each included studies in the colorectal cancer patients and healthy control subjects. The odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was used to assess the correlation between genetype and colorectal cancer risk. The publications for this study was evaluated by Begg's funnel plot and Egger's line regression test.Results: The median frequency of CC, CT, and TT genotype in cancer group were 48%, 41% and 11%; For control group, they were 51%, 40% and 8%; the pooled results showed that OR = 1.32 (95% CI: 1.041-1.67, P < 0.05). The pooled results indicated that XRCC1 rs1799782 C>T polymorphisms was associated with colorectal cancer susceptibility in recessive genetic model OR = 1.32 (95% CI: 1.041-1.67, P < 0.05), dominant genetic model OR = 1.21 (95% CI: 1.00-1.46, P < 0.05) and homozygous genetic model OR = 1.43 (95% CI: 1.07-1.91, P < 0.05). The funnel plot was significant asymmetric at the bottom and the Egger's test also indicated significant publication bias (t = 2.43, P = 0.04) for recessive genetic model. But, no publication bias was found in dominant and homozygous model (P > 0.05).Conclusion: Chinese Han people with rs1799782 TT/CT genotype of XRCC1 gene may have increased risk of developing colorectal. Background: This study was designed to investigate the effect of clopidogrel-related gene polymorphisms on platelet reactivity and clinical outcome in Chinese Han patients. Materials and Methods: Three hundred and thirty-six percutaneous coronary intervention - treated patients were recruited and followed for 1 year. Blood samples were collected from all patients for DNA genotyping. The platelet reactivity unit was measured by the VerifyNow technique. The CYP2C19*2, CYP2C19*3, CYP2C19*17, ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 1, ITGB3, CYP2C9*3, CYP2B6*9, and P2Y12 alleles were assessed. Results: The clinical endpoints were related to previous heart disease history (11.90% vs. 28.57%, P = 0.017), stroke (12.24% vs. 16.67%, P = 0.039), and diabetes (27.55% vs. 52.38%, P = 0.047). High on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) was frequent in advanced age (P = 0.019), male gender (P = 0.016), hypertension (P = 0.033), and chronic renal failure (P = 0.040). There were more endpoints in the CYP2C19*2 and P2Y12 mutant carriers (76.19% vs. 43.20%, P < 0.001; 50.00% vs. 35.71%, P = 0.001, respectively), whereas fewer in the CYP2C19*17 mutant carriers (11.90% vs. 56.46%, P = 0.001). CYP2C19*2 and P2Y12 polymorphism manifested HTPR (194.25 ± 45.91 vs. 151.38 ± 58.14, P < 0.001; 180.33 ± 67.25 vs. 161.89 ± 56.49, P = 0.008, respectively), whereas CYP2C19*17 mutant improved platelet reactivity (97.17 ± 45.38 vs. 169.08 ± 57.15, P = 0.003). However, there were no further cardiovascular deaths in endpoint patients. Conclusion: In Han Chinese people of mainland China, clopidogrel-related gene polymorphisms are related to variable platelet reactivity after clopidogrel maintenance dosing, which influences major adverse cardiovascular events, without an effect on cardiac death.
